Abstract:Lead-free halide perovskites have been developed and have received increasing attention in optoelectronic applications due to their non-toxicity. However, single perovskite phosphors with vibrant, tunable-color-temperature white-light emission are rare. Herein, we used the anti-solvent precipitation method to develop white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on rare-earth-based Sb3+ and Mn2+ co-doped Cs2KYCl6 microcrystals (MCs). The Cs2KYCl6 MCs exhibit tunable dual emissions covering wideband ascribed to the self-trapped excitons (STEs) emission of Sb3+ and the 4T1 to 6A1 d-d transition of Mn2+. The optimal photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of doped Cs2KYCl6 is 65.78%. The energy transfer process is revealed from Sb3+ to Mn2+. WLEDs have been successfully constructed by combining the dual emissions from STEs of Sb3+ and the d-d transition of Mn2+. These WLEDs have impressive optical performance, including CIE chromaticity coordinates (0.3483, 0.4125) and a color rendering index (CRI) of 85.4. This work provides an effective strategy for developing WLEDs based on a single-component material, lead-free perovskites.

Abstract:The toxicity of lead ions has become the severe challenge for the all-inorganic lead halide perovskite materials, although some works have reported the lead-free perovskite nanocrystals (NCs), the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of these materials is still not unsatisfactory. Meanwhile, because the halogen ions can be easily exchanged, the controllable multicolor emission in perovskite NCs is difficult to realize in current reports. In this work, we introduced lanthanide ions into lead-free Cs3Sb2Cl9 perovskite NCs. Benefitting from the energy transfer between Cs3Sb2Cl9 perovskite NC host and lanthanide ions, the multicolor emission was realized. Based on controlling the doping concentration of Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions, the white light emission under UV excitation would be turned easily in the Tb3+/Eu3+ codoped NCs. In addition, efficient energy transfer from perovskite NCs to Tb3+ or Eu3+ ions is beneficial to improving the optical properties of lead-free perovskite NCs, resulting in maximum PLQYs of red, green and white light emission of 22.6%, 19.7% and 28.5%, respectively. Finally, a white light emitting device (WLED) was fabricated with a power efficiency of 18.5 lm/W, which presents the Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage (CIE) of (0.33, 0.35).

Abstract:Lead-free perovskites are a new type of luminescent material with non-toxic, stability and excellent photoelectric properties, which have great application in the field of photoelectric detection, solar cells, bio-imaging, etc. Here, we reported a new kind of uniform spherical rare-earth based double perovskite Cs2NaYCl6 nanocrystals (NCs) as versatile hosts to accommodate ionic dopants for improving photoelectric properties especially the luminescent properties. In contrast to the low quantum yield of only 5.62%, the luminescent intensity of Cs2NaYCl6 NCs can be impressively enhanced via doping Sb3+ and Mn2+ ions in the rare earth-based double perovskite lattices. For the Sb3+-doping, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) increases from 5.62% to 22.48%. On this basis, the luminescence colors can be tuned from blue to white and red via Mn2+ ions doping and the maximum PLQY can be further improved to 38.66%. Finally, the Sb3+, Sb3+/Mn2+ ions doped Cs2NaYCl6 NCs based blue, red and white LEDs were explored, which indicates that these are potential materials in multicolor LEDs applications.

Abstract:Double halide perovskites are a class of promising semiconductors applied in photocatalysis, photovoltaic devices, and emitters to replace lead halide perovskites, owing to their nontoxicity and chemical stability. However, most double perovskites always exhibit low photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQE) due to the indirect bandgap structure or parity-forbidden transition problem, limiting their further applications. Herein, the self-trapped excitons emission of Cs(2)NaInCl(6)by Sb-doping, showing a blue emission with high PLQE of 84%, is improved. Further, Sb/Mn codoped Cs(2)NaInCl(6)nanocrystals are successfully synthesized by the hot-injection method, showing a tunable dual-emission covering the white-light spectrum. The studies of PL properties and dynamics reveal that an energy transfer process can occur between the self-trapped excitons and dopants (Mn2+). The work provides a new perspective to design novel lead-free double perovskites for realizing a unique white-light emission.

Abstract:Lead-free double perovskite (DP) nanocrystals (NCs) with low-toxicity and good stability have attracted attention for light-emitting devices (LEDs) applications. However, the low photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) limit their development. Here, we synthesized Tb3+,Sb3+ co-doped Cs2NaInCl6 NCs by an improved hot-injection method. The as-prepared Cs2NaInCl6:Sb,Tb NCs show a dual-emission from self-trapped excitons (STEs) and Tb3+ ions. The maximum PLQYs of Cs2NaInCl6:Sb,Tb NCs is 74%, which exceeds that of most lead-free DP NCs. The energy transfer channel from STEs to Tb3+ ion in Tb3+,Sb3+ co-doped Cs2NaInCl6 NCs has been proved and studied. In addition, we further introduce Mn2+ ions and fabricate the corresponding warm white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). This work provides a reliable way to realize DP NCs with enhanced photoluminescence properties and further promoted their development for WLEDs application.

Abstract:Lead-free double perovskite nanocrystals (LFDP NCs) are promising materials for illumination and display applications because of their potential to overcome the toxicity and instability of lead-based counterparts. Despite the success in the synthesis of LFDP NCs, tunable control over the photoluminescence (PL) of LFDP NCs is still challenging. Herein, brightly emissive and stable Rb+, Sb3+-codoped Cs2NaInCl6 NCs are synthesized while fulfilling tunable self-trapped exciton (STE) emission in the blue region through the A, B-site codoping strategy. Sb3+ is introduced into the B-site of Cs2NaInCl6 NCs to break the parity-forbidden transition and boost the emission efficiency. By further altering the amount of A-site doped Rb+, the emission peak of the NCs is tunable from 447 to 528 nm, because Rb+ enlarges the electron-phonon coupling energy, which leads to larger Stokes shifts and therefore the continuous red-shift of PL emission. The Rb+, Sb3+-codoped Cs2NaInCl6 NCs exhibit robust PL and phase stability against moisture after one year of storage. A series of LFDP NCs with tunable emission are synthesized according to the codoping strategy and further employed as the color conversion materials for fabricating light-emitting diodes.

Abstract:The colloidal cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted much attention over the past five years as a promising class of material with potential application in wide-color-gamut backlight display because of their high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and narrow-band emission (full-width at half-maximum, FWHM < 35 nm). To controllably synthesize perovskite NCs, the effects of reaction temperature and reaction time on structure, morphology, particle size and photoluminescence (PL) properties of the NCs were systematically investigated inthis article. Based on these results, the formation kinetics of the perovskite NCs was analyzed and disclosed in further. Finally, a white light-emitting diode (WLED) was prepared by using synthesized CsPbBr3 NCs and K2SiF6:Mn4+ phosphors as the color converters. The WLED exhibits the bright white emission with a CIE chromaticity coordinate of (0.389, 0.376) and a wide color gamut of 123% of NTSC, indicating a potential application in the field of wide color gamut displays in the future.

Abstract:Doping Mn2+ into CsPbCl3 nanocrystals (NCs) yields strong orange emission, while the related emission in Mn2+ doped CsPbBr3 NCs is impaired seriously. This is mainly ascribed to back energy transfer from the Mn2+ dopant to the host. Doping Mn2+ into perovskites with multiple-quantum-well (MQW) structures may address this issue, where the energy funnels ensure a rapid energy transfer process, and thus resulting in a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Here, we have developed an Ag+ assisted Mn2+ doping method in which Mn2+ can be easily doped into Br-based MQW perovskites. In this MQW perovskites, both nanoplatelets (NPLs) and NCs were formed simultaneously, where efficient energy transfer occurred from the NPLs with a higher energy bandgap to the NCs with a smaller energy bandgap, and then to the Mn2+ dopants. White lighting solution with a PLQY up to 98% has been acquired by altering the experimental parameters, such as reaction time and the Pb-to-Mn feed ratio. The successful doping of Mn2+ into CsPbBr3 host has great significance and shows promising application for next-generation white lighting.

Highly Efficient Lead-Free (Bi,Ce)-Codoped Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6 Double Perovskites for White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract:Lead-free double perovskite phosphors are promising alternatives to lead halide perovskites for wide uses in optoelectronic applications, but suffer from a low quantum efficiency. Here, we propose to enhance the quantum efficiency of orange-emitting Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:Bi via a codoping strategy. The internal quantum efficiency of Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:1% Bi phosphor was increased from 89.9% to the record 98.4 and 98.6% by codoping with 1% Ni and 1% Ce, respectively. High-level density functional theory calculations have revealed that the enhanced efficiency is ascribed to the formation of shallow trap states by codoping with Ce, while codoping with Mn can create delocalized deep traps that decrease the quantum efficiency. By applying the (Bi, Ce)-codoped sample together with a blue BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor, a white light-emitting diode with an excellent color rendering index of 95.7 and a correlated color temperature of 4430 K has been demonstrated. The developed Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:Bi,Ce phosphor shows a great potential as down-conversion luminescent material in solid-state lighting for general illumination.

Abstract:Lead-free halide double perovskites are widely used for phosphors converted light emitting diode (pc-LED) devices. However, it remains a challenge to modulate their spectra to meet different application requirements. Herein, Cs2NaInCl6:Sb3+ double perovskite crystals with excellent blue emission of self-trapped excitons (STEs) were prepared and a lanthanide ions (Ln3+) doping strategy was employed to enable multicolor emissions in this system. The emission colors can be continuously adjusted in a wide range by altering the Ln3+ ions doping levels. Especially, white light emissions with tunable correlated color temperature were obtained in Tb3+, Ho3+ ions codoped samples. Outstanding photoluminescence quantum yields of the samples are ascribed to the sensitization effect of Sb3+ ions and the efficient energy-transfer from STEs to Ln3+ ions. LED devices were further fabricated to demonstrate the great application potentials of the prepared phosphors. These findings provide deep insights for the designing of multicolor double perovskite phosphors.

Mg2+‐Doped Cesium Copper Halide for Bright Electroluminescent White Light‐Emitting Diodes

Abstract:Blue‐emitting Cs3Cu2I5 NCs with high PLQY of 96.2% is obtained by doping Mg2+ ions. Utilizing TmPyPb as the electron transport layer to interact with the Cs3Cu2I5 emission layer to generate Cu‐I complex with yellow emission, an electroluminescent WLED is prepared with maximum EQE of 0.71% and maximum luminance of 2116 cd m−2. Lead‐based perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) as one of the most promising materials in the fields of display and lighting, have outstanding optical performance and simple solution preparation process. However, the toxicity of lead and poor stability limit their commercialization. Meanwhile, as a key component of display and lighting, white light‐emitting diodes (WLEDs) still faces challenges such as low luminance and complex preparation process. A method is proposed for preparing nontoxic and stable Cs3Cu2I5 NCs by doping Mg2+ ions, achieved broadband blue light emission with a high PLQY of 96.2% and excellent thermal cycling stability and air stability. Then, the Mg2+ ions doped Cs3Cu2I5 NCs are used as emissive layer, while the 1,3,5‐Tri (m‐pyridine‐3‐ylphenyl) benzene (TmPyPb) is selected as electron transport layer to interact with Cs3Cu2I5 thin films for the formation of Cu‐I complex with broadband yellow light emission. This approach obviated the need for multi‐layer sedimentary emission layers, resulting in WLEDs featuring a high color rendering index (CRI) of 91, a peak external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 0.71% and maximum luminance of 2116 cd m−2 that is the highest values of lead‐free perovskite WLEDs at present. Therefore, Cs3Cu2I5 NCs have good application prospects in WLEDs.

Tunable Efficient White Emission in Holmium Doped Double Perovskites Cs2KInCl6 via Antimony Sensitization

Abstract:A strategy based on Sb3+/Ho3+ co‐doped lead‐free Cs2KInCl6 double perovskite is developed. The effective energy transfer channel between self‐trapped exciton and Ho3+ is constructed, resulting in efficient tunable white emission with an amazing photoluminescence quantum yield of 90 ± 2%. Recently, ns2 metal ions (such as Bi3+ and Sb3+) doped double perovskites have captured intense attention for their efficient emission, however, achieving efficient and tunable white light emission is always an enormous challenge. Herein, Sb3+/Ho3+ co‐doped Cs2KInCl6 double perovskites are proposed, and the photoluminescence results show that there are two emission bands, one broad cyan emission band stems from self‐trapped exciton (STE) in [SbCl6]3‐ octahedron, while another red emission band derives from the f‐f transitions of Ho3+. The emission processes for Sb3+/Ho3+ co‐doped Cs2KInCl6 show that Sb3+ can act as the sensitizer to activate Ho3+ emission, which is due to the energy transfer channel from STE to Ho3+. As the Ho3+ concentration increases, the luminous color of Sb3+/Ho3+ co‐doped Cs2KInCl6 can be modulated from cyan to orange under 315 nm light irradiation, and the white emission can even be obtained with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 90 ± 2% when the energy‐transfer efficiency is 50%. Finally, single compound white‐light emitting diodes and fluorescent anti‐counterfeiting labels based on 0.5%Sb3+/60%Ho3+ co‐doped Cs2KInCl6 are fabricated. This work provides an effective strategy to achieve efficient tunable white emission in lead‐free double perovskites through ns2 metal and lanthanide ion co‐doping.

Abstract:The development of multi-luminescent centers integrated phosphors with high-quality and tunable white light emission is highly desirable for practical applications in solid-state lighting, but it remains challenging. Herein, a novel strategy of integrating dyes and perovskite nanocrystals into different locations of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) to achieve high-performance white lighting-emitting diodes (WLEDs) is proposed. Based on the emerging dyes encapsulated MOF system, CsPbX3 nanocrystals (NCs) with high PLQY and tunable bandgap are utilized to be the additional emission centers, contributing to spectral complementarity and energy transfer. The spatial separation of dyes and CsPbX3 NCs results in no mutual interference between each other during loading, enabling more flexible emission tuning. The resulting LED based on the combination of ZIF-8⸧pm567A/SRh101@CsPbClBr2-SiO2 and a 460 nm blue LED chip exhibits exceptional Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.329, 0.334), moderate correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5681 K and high color-rendering index (CRI) of 88. In addition, cold WLEDs and warm WLEDs are also realized by only fine-tuning the loading amounts of CsPbClBr2 NCs, without sacrifice of the high CRI. This strategy offers a new perspective for the design of white light-emitting phosphors with excellent color quality and facilitates the advancement of high-performance WLEDs.

Abstract:ns2 ions‐doped lead‐free perovskites have garnered significant attention for their potential in diverse optoelectronic applications, owing to their broad emission characteristics arising from self‐trapped excitons (STEs). Herein, high‐performance white light‐emitting diodes (WLEDs) for intelligent lighting are developed by Bi3+/Te4+co‐doped Cs2SnCl6. Effective energy transfer between the dual STE emissions results in tunable broadband emissions covering the full‐color region. Adjustable WLEDs containing cold‐ and warm‐white lighting are fabricated. The WLEDs have excellent luminescent performances coupled with adjustable correlated color temperatures of 6417 and 3829 K. This versatility allows them to meet lighting demand for different scenarios, which is essential for future WLEDs to achieve healthy lighting. In addition, the excellent white light emission characteristics can also be applied in the visible light communication (VLC) system, achieving a −3 dB bandwidth of 13.3 MHz and opening eye diagrams in the data rate range of 10–60 Mbps. This work represents a significant advancement toward building intelligent health lighting applications and achieving high‐quality light sources for VLC based on lead‐free perovskites.

Abstract:Abstract Lead-free halide double perovskites are considered as one of the most promising materials in optoelectronic devices, such as solar cells, photodetectors, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs), due to their environmental friendliness and chemical stability. However, the extremely low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of self-trapped excitons (STEs) emission from lead-free halide double perovskites impedes their applications. Herein, Sb 3+ ions were doped into rare-earth-based double perovskite Cs 2 NaScCl 6 single crystals (SCs), resulting in a large enhancement of PLQY from 12.57% to 87.37%. Moreover, by co-doping Sb 3+ and Ho 3+ into Cs 2 NaScCl 6 SCs, the emission color can be tuned from blue to red, due to an efficient energy transfer from STEs to Ho 3+ ions. Finally, the synthesized sample was used in multicolor LED, which exhibited excellent stability and optical properties. This work not only provides a new strategy for improving the optical properties of Cs 2 NaScCl 6 SCs, but also suggests its potential application in multicolor LEDs.

Abstract:Perovskite white light-emitting devices (WLEDs) without intercalation layers have not been achieved due to the ion exchange. Although the intercalation layers prevent ion exchange between perovskite nanocrystals (NCs), it also creates a new problem of charge imbalance and the structure becomes more complex. In this study, blue emitting ZnCdS/ZnS NCs with high quantum yield and stability are introduced to work with the yellow emission from CsPb(Br/I)3 perovskite NCs for WLEDs. The WLEDs are constituted of ITO/ZnO/PEI/ZnCdS/ZnS NCs/CsPb(Br/I)3 NCs/TCTA/MoO3/Au. This design avoides ion exchange between different perovskites NCs, and realizes white light emission by simple fabrication. As a result, we achieved the white light coordinates of (0.34, 0.34) and a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5153K.

Abstract:Lead-free double perovskite phosphors are promising alternatives to lead halide perovskites for wide uses in optoelectronic applications, but suffer from a low quantum efficiency. Here, we propose to enhance the quantum efficiency of orange-emitting Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:Bi via a codoping strategy. The internal quantum efficiency of Cs2Ag0.4Na0.6InCl6:1% Bi phosphor was increased from 89.9% to the record 98.4 and 98.6% by codoping with 1% Ni and 1% Ce, respectively. High-level density functional theory calculations have revealed that the enhanced efficiency is ascribed to the formation of shallow trap states by codoping with Ce, while codoping with Mn can create delocalized deep traps that decrease the quantum efficiency. By applying the (Bi,Ce)-codoped sample together with a blue BaMgAl10O17:Eu2+ phosphor, a white light-emitting diode with an excellent color rendering index of 95.7 and a correlated color temperature of 4430 K has been demonstrated. Abstract:AbstractPerovskite‐based optoelectronic devices have attracted considerable attention owing to their excellent device performances and facile solution processing. However, the toxicity and intrinsic instability of lead‐based perovskites have limited their commercial development. Moreover, the provision of an efficient white emission from a single perovskite layer is challenging. Here, novel electrically excited white light‐emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on lead‐free double perovskite Cs2AgIn0.9Bi0.1Cl6 quantum dots (QDs) without any phosphor are fabricated for the first time. Density functional theory calculations are carried out to clarify the mechanism of absorption and recombination in Cs2AgIn0.9Bi0.1Cl6 with Bi‐doping breaking the parity‐forbidden transition of the direct bandgap. Microzone optical and electronic characterizations reveal that the broadband emission of Cs2AgIn0.9Bi0.1Cl6 QDs originates from self‐trapped excitons, and luminescent properties are unchanged after the film deposition. The QD‐WLED exhibits excellent Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage color coordinates, correlated color temperature and relatively high color rendering index of (0.32, 0.32), 6432 K, and 94.5, respectively. The maximum luminance of 158 cd m−2 is achieved by triphenylphosphine oxide passivation, and this lead‐free QD‐WLED exhibits a superior stability in ambient air with a long T50 ≈48.53 min. Therefore, lead‐free perovskite Cs2AgIn0.9Bi0.1Cl6 QDs are promising candidates for use in WLEDs in the future.

Abstract:All-inorganic semiconductor perovskite quantum dots (QDs) with outstanding optoelectronic properties have already been extensively investigated and implemented in various applications. However, great challenges exist for the fabrication of nanodevices including toxicity, fast anion-exchange reactions, and unsatisfactory stability. Here, the ultrathin, core-shell structured SiO2 coated Mn2+ doped CsPbX3 (X = Br, Cl) QDs are prepared via one facile reverse microemulsion method at room temperature. By incorporation of a multibranched capping ligand of trioctylphosphine oxide, it is found that the breakage of the CsPbMnX3 core QDs contributed from the hydrolysis of silane could be effectively blocked. The thickness of silica shell can be well-controlled within 2 nm, which gives the CsPbMnX3 @SiO2 QDs a high quantum yield of 50.5% and improves thermostability and water resistance. Moreover, the mixture of CsPbBr3 QDs with green emission and CsPbMnX3 @SiO2 QDs with yellow emission presents no ion exchange effect and provides white light emission. As a result, a white light-emitting diode (LED) is successfully prepared by the combination of a blue on-chip LED device and the above perovskite mixture. The as-prepared white LED displays a high luminous efficiency of 68.4 lm W-1 and a high color-rendering index of Ra = 91, demonstrating their broad future applications in solid-state lighting fields.
