This research discovers major insights and consequences regarding influencer marketing through a thorough review of the literature. The effectiveness of influencer marketing initiatives is largely determined by aspects like trust, trustworthiness, authenticity, and customization. The assessment emphasises how crucial it is to establish sincere connections with influencers and take use of their authority to improve brand views and buy intentions. In the literature review, social media platforms are emphasised as important avenues for influencer marketing. It emphasises how important it is for marketers to comprehend the workings of various platforms and adjust their proaches accordingly. Abstract:The increasing use and effectiveness of social media influencers in marketing have intrigued both academic scholars and industry professionals. To shed light on the foundations and trends of this contemporary phenomenon, this study undertakes a systematic literature review using a bibliometric-content analysis to map the extant literature where consumer behavior, social media, and influencer marketing are intertwined. Using 214 articles published in journals indexed by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC), Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), and Web of Science (WOS) from 2008 to 2021, this study unpacks the articles, journals, methods, theories, themes, and constructs (antecedents, moderators, mediators, and consequences) in extant research on social media influencer marketing. Noteworthily, the review highlighted that the major research streams in social media influencer marketing research involve parasocial interactions and relationships, sponsorship, authenticity, and engagement and influence. The review also revealed the prominent role of audience-, brand-, comparative-, content-, influencer-, social-, and technology-related factors in influencing how consumers react to social media influencer marketing. The insights derived from this one-stop, state-of-the-art review can help social media influencers and marketing scholars and professionals to recognize key characteristics and trends of social media influencer marketing, and thus, drive new research and social media marketing practices where social media influencers are employed and leveraged upon for marketing activities.

Abstract:Recent marketing trends indicate the rise of influencers as an extension of word of mouth campaigns. As consumers turn to social media platforms, organizations are realizing the power of influencers in affecting a purchase decision. The current study throws light on various aspects of influencer marketing that drive consumer behavior by using the theory of planned behavior (henceforth referred to as TPB) ( Ajzen, 1991 ) and social learning theory by Bandura and Walters (1963) as part of the qualitative research to identify key factors of influencer marketing that impact consumer behavior. The study revealed that both attitude toward influencers and perceived behavior control that allows increase in domain knowledge had a favorable impact on consumer behavior while the influence of peers had no effect. Further additional constructs namely personal relevance, inspiration, and trust had a positive impact on behavior while perceived risk did not have any effect. Product influencer fitment was an important criterion for consumers, as they followed the specific type of influencers for different product categories. Depending on the posts shared by influencers, consumers are impacted at four levels: increase in brand awareness, subject matter expertise, brand preference, and preference. Successful influencer marketing involves identifying the right type of influencer who will offer curated advice, stories, and suggestions to create engagement with the audience.

Abstract:Internet users consistently lean towards influencers who actively participate in their respective areas of interest, providing thorough information and genuine product reviews. These practices have the potential to positively influence the decision-making process related to purchasing. This study delves into the realm of influencer marketing, examining it from the viewpoints of both consumers and specialists. The study is based on the qualitative research, employing both individual in-depth interviews and a focus group. More precisely, the investigation included a series of six individual interviews with influencers from Romania and a focus group comprising eight participants to grasp their perceptions of influencer marketing campaigns. The findings underscore the importance of transparency and authenticity for content creators. Influencers tailor their content based on the platform they use, revealing an existing correlation among them, all while underscoring the significance of transparency and striving to maintain close connections with their followers. This study not only offers a fresh perspective on understanding consumers' views regarding the activities of content creators in the online domain but also sheds light on influencers' perspectives concerning collaborations, content creation, and their relationships within their community. Theoretical implications encompass the identification of novel behavioral traits among Romanian consumers regarding influencer marketing actions and contributes to a clearer understanding of the term influencer marketing.

Abstract:Purpose The continued evolution of influencer marketing has created a need to better understand influencer marketing effectiveness. With brands increasingly partnering with influencers, research is yet to provide an integrated perspective examining the critical role of both parties. This study aims to draw on the source credibility model and signaling theory to explain the mechanisms that matter in influencer marketing effectiveness. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model of influencer marketing effectiveness is analyzed using partial least squares with data from 281 followers of social media influencers. Findings The authors establish influencer characteristics of popularity and attractiveness as heuristic cues that inform judgments of influencer efficacy. Further, category involvement and altruistic motives for collaboration are shown to moderate followers' reliance on these heuristic cues. Then, a sequential mediating effect demonstrates the critical roles of the influencer and partner brand in three desired outcomes: enhanced perception of brand authenticity, enhanced brand engagement and positive attitudes toward influencer posts. Research limitations/implications Future research should consider other heuristic cues that could inform influencer efficacy judgments and switch the focus toward the partner brand's impact on such judgments. Practical implications A step-by-step visual framework is presented to help marketers and influencers translate these findings into key responsibilities for developing more effective and collaborative partnerships. Originality/value Besides presenting an integrated perspective, signaling theory provides an original lens for explaining influencer marketing effectiveness, addressing the need to expand the theoretical boundaries of influencer marketing research.

Abstract:<p>Over the past few years, the popularity of social media influencers (SMIs) has been growing exponentially, making influencer marketing (IM) prevalent in firm strategies. Despite the mounting interest of researchers and practitioners, the resulting scholarly work remains divergent, partial and fragmented. In light of the pivotal role of SMIs on the consumer decision journey and as this research domain is still developing, a comprehensive and critical overview of extant research on this topic is sorely needed. In response, this paper is the first to consolidate the present state of research on IM within social media settings. More specifically, a systematic review of relevant studies published in peer‐reviewed academic journals across diverse fields was conducted in order to identify key themes and dominant concepts. The analysis of 68 articles from 29 Chartered Association of Business Schools‐ranked journals forges a robust understanding of this phenomenon, shedding light on the mechanisms underlying the appeal of SMIs and their influential power in shaping consumer attitudes and behaviour. Based on the analysis, an integrative multidimensional framework is presented that considers antecedents, mediators and moderators of potential outcomes, as well as contextual factors that translate into consumer behaviour. In so doing, various research gaps are identified and avenues for future research are proposed that reflect important emerging areas and unexplored realms with reference to theory, context and methodology. Conclusively, implications of this study for theory and practice are discussed.</p>

Abstract:Research on influencer marketing has grown exponentially over the past few years. Overall, the extant literature has been classified into three major clusters that examine sources involved in influencer marketing, message, and audience. However, there is a distinct research gap pertaining to how and why discrete social media platforms affect the effectiveness of influencer advertising differently. Theoretically, this research is the first to (1) map out followers' gratifications pertaining to their interactions with influencers across discrete social media platforms and (2) explore how these varying gratifications and platform characteristics affect influencer–follower relation and subsequent advertising outcomes. In our current investigation, we take individual factors (gratifications) and platform factors (characteristics) into consideration. We demonstrate that consumers' interactions with influencers are contingent on the specific affordances and characteristics of social media platforms. We find that the platform factors (characteristics) and individual factors (i.e., consumers' fulfilled gratifications) positively correlate with the parasocial relation (PSR) between influencers and followers. The strength of influencer–follower PSR differs as a function of the platforms. More importantly, this influencer–follower PSR positively predicts advertising outcomes across different platforms.

Abstract:Influencer marketing is a marketing method that more and more companies are using when it comes to marketing brands. The purpose of the study has been to gain a deeper understanding of how social media influencers affect consumers' buying behavior. To understand this, consumers' attitudes and confidence in the phenomenon have been relevant factors to examine. The study also aimed to find out whether Word of Mouth (WoM) or social media influencers have the greatest impact on consumers' buying behavior. The results have shown that social media influencer's impact on consumers' buying behavior depends on whether attitudes are positive or negative. Consumers with positive attitudes towards social media influencers have a greater tendency to acquire what is marketed in comparison with consumers who have negative attitudes towards social media influencers, who instead refrain from buying. Factors that increase confidence in social media influencer are whether the consumer feels connected, honesty and that social media influencer in markets products / services within its area of expertise. What has been shown to play a significant role when it comes to influencing consumers' buying behaviors and attitudes is what the environment's perceptions, opinions and experiences about the phenomenon look like WoM. It has emerged that the respondents have a greater confidence in their surroundings than they have in social media influencers. This study will adopt a qualitative approach towards collection and analysis of data. Hence this study will investigate influencer marketing from a consumer perspective through a qualitative method with the help of semi-structured interviews. The researcher will conduct a minimum of 5 semi-structured interviews and analyze the data to formulate the required findings of this study.

Abstract:Influencer marketing has steadily grown in the past decade as a strategy utilized by digital marketers for spreading brand messages with the help of social media influencers (SMIs). The main objective of this study is to review the academic literature related to influencer marketing between 2011 and 2019 with the help of both bibliometric analysis and content analysis. This review uses the Bibliometrix R-tool and the BiblioShiny app for data analysis and scientific mapping. This review presents a background of how influencer marketing research has evolved and examines the performance analysis based on sources, authors, documents, countries, and keywords. In addition, different knowledge structures were examined and interpreted to determine the most influential aspects of the literature. The trends observed in this research area from the content analysis and bibliometric analysis in terms of the significant methods, theories, emergent topics, thematic evolution, models, variables, industry focus, platforms used, leading research streams, data sources, and context of studies are the focus of the Discussion section. Finally, based on the findings of this analysis, future research directions are recommended to offer the potential to advance research on influencer marketing and SMIs.

Abstract:This meta‐analytic review offers a comprehensive framework for studying social media influencers by integrating multiple theoretical perspectives and measures. It analyzes 250 effect sizes from 53 studies, highlighting the significance of credibility, trustworthiness, and perceived expertise of social media influencers in shaping attitudinal outcomes. Source Credibility Theory emerges as the most robust explanatory framework, while Parasocial Interaction Theory and Congruity Theory also play essential roles. For behavioral outcomes, Source Credibility Theory and Congruity Theory remain influential, with moderate effects observed for homophily and variables from the two‐step flow model. Methodological diversity, geographical context, platform context, product context, and influencer type contribute to variations in effect sizes. These findings provide insights into social media influencer influence dynamics and guide future research. Moreover, they contribute to theory development by shedding light on the mechanisms and conditions underlying social media influencer influence on consumer attitudes and behaviors.

Abstract:Journal of Marketing, Ahead of Print. Influencer marketing initiatives require firms to select and incentivize online influencers to engage their followers on social media in an attempt to promote the firms' offerings. However, limited research considers the costs of influencer marketing when evaluating these campaigns' effectiveness, particularly from an engagement elasticity perspective. Moreover, it is unclear whether and how marketers could enhance influencer marketing effectiveness by strategically selecting influencers, targeting their followers, or managing content. This study draws on a communication model to examine how factors related to the sender of a message (influencer), the receiver of the message (influencer's followers), and the message itself (influencer's posts) determine influencer marketing effectiveness. The findings show that influencer originality, follower size, and sponsor salience enhance effectiveness, and posts that announce new product launches diminish it. Several tensions arise when firms select influencers and manage content: Influencer activity, follower–brand fit, and post positivity all exert inverted U-shaped moderating effects on influencer marketing effectiveness, suggesting that firms that adopt a balanced approach along these dimensions can achieve greater effectiveness. These novel insights offer important implications for marketers designing influencer marketing campaigns.

Abstract:This study aims to provide insights into the impact of new media influencers on brand management in the digital age. With the rise of social media, the role of influencers in guiding consumer decision-making has become increasingly prominent. This paper systematically analyzes the role of new media influencers in arousing consumers' "awareness", "interest", "desire" and "action" and their contribution to the whole brand management process, combining the brand value chain model and the co-branding normalization strategies. By comprehensively analyzing indicators such as the number of observers, the degree of interaction and the quality of content, this study successfully quantified the degree of influence of new media influencers at different stages. It was found that when choosing partners, brands should focus on their fit with the brand's core values, as well as on whether the influencer's audience segment matches the target market. Meanwhile, recommendations are made for choosing authentic and trustworthy influencers and establishing transparent partnerships in order to cope with market saturation and trust crises. In the Future Challenges and Solutions Outlook, in the face of changes in social media algorithms, the paper suggests that brands adopt a multi-channel strategy while emphasizing the importance of establishing clear KPIs and a collaborative framework. Finally, an in-depth analysis of the opportunities and challenges of the co-branding normalization strategies is presented, highlighting the importance of trust building, collaboration costs, consistency and public relations risks. This research provides practical data support and strategic recommendations for brand managers to better address brand management challenges in the digital age.
