Abstract:Quantifying the contributions of climatic variables to runoff variance is still a great challenge to water resource management. This study adopted an extended Budyko framework to investigate the effects of terrestrial water storage changes (ΔS) on runoff variance across the source region of the Yellow River, China, during the period of 2003–2014. A new decomposition framework based on the extended Budyko framework was proposed to effectively quantify the contributions of different climatic variables including precipitation, PET and ΔS to runoff variance. The results demonstrated that the extended Budyko framework showed a better performance in presenting the water and energy balance than the original Budyko framework, especially at fine time scales. Meanwhile, the variance in runoff estimated by the new decomposition framework was close to that of runoff observations, indicating that this framework can effectively capture the variation in runoff during 2003–2014. It was also found that precipitation was the most important factor that contributed to runoff changes, while PET made a slightly smaller contribution compared to precipitation. Notably, the results also emphasized the important effects of ΔS on runoff variance at fine time scales, which was useful to better understand the interactions between atmospheric and hydrological processes for regions.

Abstract:The Budyko framework is widely used to investigate the impacts of climate and landscape changes on regional hydrology, but quantifying the effect of vegetation change is still a challenge due to the lack of an explicit expression of vegetation in Budyko equations. This study establishes a relationship between the change in the landscape parameter in a Budyko equation and vegetation change (represented by fPAR, the fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation absorbed by vegetation) for catchments in China, where, due to large-scale soil and water conservation projects implemented by the Chinese government, vegetation and regional hydrology have changed substantially over the past 30years. The ratio of landscape parameter change to the change in fPAR has a strong relationship with the aridity index, and thus, vegetation change can be converted into a change in the landscape parameter. Then, the fPAR elasticity of runoff is introduced and formulated under the Budyko framework. It provides a useful tool for the quantitative evaluation of the regional hydrological response to vegetation change, but the proposed relationship still needs to be evaluated in other catchments around the globe where large-scale afforestation or vegetation recovery has occurred.

Abstract:Budyko's framework has been widely used to study basin‐scale water and energy balances and one of the formulations of the Budyko curve is Fu's equation. The curve shape parameter ϖ in Fu's equation controls how much of the available water will be evaporated given the available energy. Previous studies have found that land surface characteristics significantly affect variations in the parameter ϖ. In this study, we focus on the vegetation impact and examine the conditions under which vegetation plays a major role in controlling the variability of ϖ. Using data from 26 major global river basins that are larger than 300,000 km2, the basin‐specific ϖ parameter is found to be linearly correlated with the long‐term averaged annual vegetation coverage. A simple parameterization for the ϖ parameter based solely on remotely sensed vegetation information is proposed, which improves predictions of annual actual evapotranspiration by reducing the root mean square error (RMSE) from 76 mm to 47 mm as compared to the default ϖ value used in the Budyko curve method. The controlling impact of vegetation on the basin‐specific ϖ parameter is diminished in small catchments with areas less than 50,000 km2, which suggests a scale‐dependence of the role of vegetation in affecting water and energy balances. In small catchments, other key ecohydrological processes need to be taken into account in order to fully capture the variability of the ϖ parameter in Fu's equation.

Abstract:The Budyko parameter, which controls the shape of Budyko curve, represents the superimposed impact of various periodic factors (including climatic factors, catchment characteristics, large-scale climate patterns, solar activity and anthropogenic activity) on the watershed water-energy balance dynamics. However, this superimposition is not conducive to identifying the drivers of Budyko parameter dynamics at different time scales, and thus affects parameter estimation. Here we obtain the Budyko parameter ω in the Fu's equation (one form of the Budyko framework) for the Wei River Basin (WRB), and then adopt the Empirical Mode Decomposition method to reveal the relationships between factors and ω series at multiple time scales by considering the interplay among different influencing factors. Results indicate that (1) ω series are decomposed into 4-, 12-, 20-, exceeding 20-year time scale oscillations and a residual component with an significantly increasing trend in the mainstream of the WRB, a non-significantly decreasing trend in the Jing River Basin and Beiluo River Basin; (2) by analyzing the residual trend component, evaporation ratio, soil moisture and effective irrigated area are found to induce the significant increase of ω in the upstream of the WRB, whereas that in the middle and lower reaches is dominated by baseflow and Niño 3.4; (3) ω dynamics at the 4-year time scale is dominated by evaporation ratio, aridity index, baseflow and soil moisture; baseflow, Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and sunspots attribute to the dynamics at 12-year time scale; all the factors except baseflow and soil moisture contribute to the dynamics at 20- or exceeding 20-year time scales. The results of this study will help identify the connection between watershed water-energy balance dynamics and changing environment at multiple time scales, and also be beneficial for guiding water resources management and ecological development planning on the Loess Plateau.

Abstract:The Budyko framework is a simple and effective tool for estimating the water balance of watersheds. Quantification of the watershed-characteristic-related parameter (Pw) is critical for accurate water balance simulations with the Budyko framework. However, there is no universal method for calculating Pw as the interactions between hydrologic, climatic, and watershed characteristic factors differ greatly across watersheds. To fill this research gap, this study introduced the principle of hydrologically similar groups into the Budyko framework for quantifying the Pw of watersheds in similar environments. We first classified the 366 selected watersheds worldwide into six hydrologically similar groups based on watershed attributes, including climate, soil, and vegetation. Results show that soil moisture (SM) and fractional vegetation cover (FVC) are two controlling factors of the Pw in each group. The SM exhibits a power-law relationship with the Pw values, with increasing SM leading to higher Pw values in dry watersheds (SM ≤ 20 mm) and lower Pw values in humid watersheds (SM > 20 mm). Additionally, the FVC shows to be linearly correlated with the Pw values in most hydrologically similar groups, except in that group with moist soil and no strong rainfall seasonality (SM > 20 mm and seasonal index (SI) ≤ 0.4). Multiple non-linear regression models between Pw and the controlling factors (SM and FVC) were developed to individually estimate the Pw of six hydrologically similar groups. Cross-validations using the bootstrap sampling method ( R 2 =0.63 ) and validations of time-series Global Runoff Data Centre (GRDC) data ( R 2 =0.89 ) both indicate that the proposed models perform satisfactorily in estimating the Pw parameter in the Budyko framework. Overall, this study is a new attempt to quantify the unknown Pw in the Budyko framework using the method for hydrologically similar groups. The results will be helpful in improving the applicability of the Budyko framework for estimating the annual runoff of watersheds in diverse climates and with different characteristics.

Abstract:For assessing the influence of vegetation variation in upper reaches of Luanhe River (URLR) on streamflow, we first computed the equation between underlying surface parameter (ω) and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Then we introduced the vegetation information into the Budyko equation and established a modified Budyko equation. Finally, the impact of vegetation change on streamflow in URLR were estimated using the modified Budyko equation. Results showed that: (1) The NDVI in the URLR presented an increasing trend from 1982 to 2016, which is opposite to the runoff depth. The sudden change of NDVI occurred in 1998, and a simple linear model between ω and NDVI was obtained ( p < 0.01). (2) The contribution rate of precipitation, potential evapotranspiration, NDVI, and anthropogenic factor on streamflow change during the changing period (1999–2016) are 44.99, 11.26, 29.45, and 17.30%, respectively. Although precipitation is still the main driver of runoff impact in the ULRB, with the increasing vegetation in the ULRB, vegetation has become the second driver of runoff impact followed by human activities and potential evapotranspiration. The mechanism of the effect of vegetation change on the water cycle needs to be further investigated. The results of this study can provide a theoretical basis for water use and conservation in the URLR.

Abstract:The Budyko framework is an efficient tool for investigating catchment water balance, focusing on the effects of seasonal changes in climate (S) and vegetation cover (M) on catchment evapotranspiration (ET). However, the effects of vegetation seasonality on ET remain largely unknown. The present study explored these effects by modeling interannual variations in ET considering vegetation and climate seasonality using the Budyko framework. Reconstructed 15‐day GIMMS NDVI3g timeseries data from 1982 to 2015 were used to estimate M and extract the relative duration of the vegetation growing season (GL) in the Yellow River Basin (YRB). To characterize S, seasonal variations in precipitation and potential evapotranspiration were extracted using a Gaussian algorithm. Analysis of the observed datasets for 19 catchments revealed that interannual variation in the catchment parameter ϖ (in Fuh's equation) was significantly and positively correlated with M and GL. Conversely, ϖ was significantly but negatively correlated with S. Furthermore, stepwise linear regression was used to calibrate the empirical formula of ϖ for these three dimensionless parameters. Following validation, based on observations in the remaining 11 catchments, ϖ was integrated into Fuh's equation to accurately estimate annual ET. Over 79% subcatchments showed an upward trend (0.9 mm·yr‐1), whereas fewer than 21% subcatchments showed a downward trend (‐0.5 mm·yr‐1) across YRB. In the central region of the middle reach, ET increased with increased M, prolonged GL, and decreased S, whereas in the source region of YRB, ET decreased with decreased M and shortened GL. Our study provides an alternative method to estimate interannual ET in ungauged catchments and offers a novel perspective to investigate hydrological responses to vegetation and climate seasonality in the long‐term.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Vegetation changes have a significant impact on the underlying surface of a watershed and alter hydrological processes. To clarify the synergistic evolution relationship between climate, vegetation, and hydrology, this study aims to reveal how vegetation restoration influences streamflow decline. This study first applied the trend-free pre-whitening Mann–Kendall (TFPW-MK) method to identify variation trends of various elements at Baihe and Shayang hydrologic stations from 1982 to 2015. Secondly, an extended Budyko equation was improved by fitting the linear relationship between annual NDVI and Budyko parameter (ω). Finally, based on the extended Budyko formula, the elastic coefficient method was applied to identify the influence of vegetation changes on runoff changes of the Baihe and Shayang stations from 1982 to 2015. The results displayed that (1) the annual NDVI of Baihe and Shayang hydrologic stations both presented an increasing trend, and streamflow presented an insignificant decrease trend. The mutation year of the annual runoff depth of Baihe and Shayang stations both occurred in 1990. (2) The annual NDVI had a significant and positive linear relationship with ω. (3) The streamflow decline of Baihe and Shayang stations is mainly influenced by precipitation variation and human activities. (4) Vegetation growth had a positive effect on the streamflow decline of Baihe and Shayang stations, with a contribution rate of 14.06% and 17.87%. This effect of vegetation growth on discharge attenuation should be given high priority.

Abstract:Identifying and quantifying the drivers of runoff (R) variability is fundamental to our understanding of the hydrologic cycle and necessary for decision makers to manage water resources. Climate variables and vegetation are the main factors influencing the R. However, the effects of climate and vegetation changes on R are still poorly understood, especially in arid regions with limited water resources. This study quantifies the contribution of precipitation (PRE), potential evapotranspiration (ET0), and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to R in Lake Issyk-Kul Basin (LIKB) dryland Central Asia by using the Budyko model. The results showed that R, PRE, and ET0 decreased from 2000 to 2020, while the NDVI and underlying parameter (ω) showed a slightly increasing trend. By using the Mann-Kendall (M-K) statistical approach, divided the R series into a baseline period (2000–2010) and a change period (2011–2020) based on the breakthrough point (2011). In the baseline period, R showed a decreasing trend, while in the change period, R showed an increasing trend of 1.8 mm/yr. The sensitivity analysis shows that a 1 mm increase in PRE results in a 0.48 mm increase in R (sensitivity coefficient to R is 0.48). Conversely, a 1 mm increase in ET0 (sensitivity coefficient to R of −0.03) and a 1 unit increase in NDVI (sensitivity coefficient to R of −343.31) lead to R decreasing by 0.03 and 343.31 mm, respectively. The relative contributions of PRE, ET0 and NDVI were 33.98%, −3.17% and 3.67%, respectively, suggesting that changes in PRE and NDVI contributed to the decrease in R while the opposite for ET0. PRE dominated the decrease in R, which decreased by 26.58 mm, leading to a decrease in R of 12.76 mm. A decrease of 65.33 mm in ET0 and an increase of 0.003 in NDVI resulted in an increase and decrease of 1.96 and 1.18 mm in R, respectively. This study enhances the understanding of the response of the water cycle to climate and vegetation changes in arid regions and can provide theoretical support for water resource management and ecological restoration.

Abstract:The global hydrological cycle is undergoing unprecedented changes with the intensifications of climate change and human activities. In particular, the impact of vegetation changes on the catchment hydrological processes has recently attracted widespread scientific attention. Although such impact in different regions of the globe has been extensively investigated, a comprehensive understanding of the impact across the entire globe remains elusive. In this study, we quantify the impact of vegetation change on surface runoff (Q) based on the Budyko framework over the global terrestrial environments (excluding Antarctica and northern high latitudes) during 1982-2014. Using long-term hydrometeorological observations and satellite-derived leaf area index (L) from 663 strictly selected catchments globally, we quantify the sensitivity of the Budyko parameter n to changes in L (S-n_L) at individual catchments. We find that S-n_L is closely correlated with catchment aridity index (phi) and soil water holding capacity (theta(p)), with higher (lower) S-n_L found in more arid (humid) catchments and catchments having smaller (larger) theta(p) values. Based on this, an empirical model relating S-n_L to phi and theta(p) is developed, which is further combined with the Budyko model to quantify the L and climate elasticities of Q and to attribute global Q changes over 1982-2014. Results show that the L elasticity of Q is higher and can be even greater than the climate elasticities of Q in relatively dry regions. Averaged over the globe, an increase in Q (+15.5%) induced by precipitation increases are largely offset by a decreased Q (-14.9%) caused by L increases over the last three decades. The vegetation greening-induced Q declines are manifested in global drylands. Over the study period, increases in L have led to Q reductions of 48.0%, 33.2% and 20.2% in global arid, semi-arid and sub-humid regions, respectively, which are larger than climate change-induced Q changes in these three regions. Our findings highlight the importance of vegetation change in regulating the long-term Q changes in relatively dry regions and call for cautions when conducting and/or planning future revegetation activities in these areas and needs for developing appropriate vegetation management policies to better inform water resources management in the context of global change.
Water Balance Shifts Induced by Multiyear Drought Within the Budyko Framework

Abstract:Climate change intensification can induce unprecedented alterations to global hydrological cycling. This study employed the Budyko framework to assess water balance shifts induced by resultant multiyear drought events, selecting 1,258 among 3,347 globally distributed catchments. Here, the precipitation (P) deficit was used to identify long-term drought, while the Budyko framework was used to explore the impact of long-term drought on changes in streamflow (Q). Additionally, this study developed a novel method (the trigonometric function decomposition method (TFD method)) to analyze Q change induced by climate and catchment properties changes. Results showed that: (a) long-term drought has caused catchment property parameter (n) increase (i.e., n is 2.14 and 2.33 during non-drought period and drought period in 1,258 catchments, respectively), which will alter P partitioning into E and Q; (b) sensitivity analysis presented n is most sensitive to changes in aridity index, while effective rooting depth (Z(e)) contributed larger magnitude in variability of n; (c) a reduction in the magnitude of Q decreased under a reduction in climatic aridity, which were primarily controlled by climate changes (average value, 80.83%), while asymmetrical effects of Q reduction were induced by catchment property changes and suggested Q reduction were weakened in arid and humid regions, while strengthened in semi-arid and sub-humid regions. Together, these factors all indicated that multiyear drought events can significantly alter Q, while the hydrological response to drought events was characterized by complex mechanisms. Clarifying the hydrological response to multiyear drought events will help us better understand how climate change affects water resources.
An Analytical Solution for the Impact of Vegetation Changes on Hydrological Partitioning Within the Budyko Framework

Abstract:Vegetation change is a critical factor that profoundly affects the terrestrial water cycle. Here we derive an analytical solution for the impact of vegetation changes on hydrological partitioning within the Budyko framework. This is achieved by deriving an analytical expression between leaf area index (LAI) change and the Budyko land surface parameter (n) change, through the combination of a steady state ecohydrological model with an analytical carbon cost‐benefit model for plant rooting depth. Using China where vegetation coverage has experienced dramatic changes over the past two decades as a study case, we quantify the impact of LAI changes on the hydrological partitioning during 1982–2010 and predict the future influence of these changes for the 21st century using climate model projections. Results show that LAI change exhibits an increasing importance on altering hydrological partitioning as climate becomes drier. In semiarid and arid China, increased LAI has led to substantial streamflow reductions over the past three decades (on average −8.5% in 1990s and −11.7% in 2000s compared to the 1980s baseline), and this decreasing trend in streamflow is projected to continue toward the end of this century due to predicted LAI increases. Our result calls for caution regarding the large‐scale revegetation activities currently being implemented in arid and semiarid China, which may result in serious future water scarcity issues here. The analytical model developed here is physically based and suitable for simultaneously assessing both vegetation changes and climate change induced changes to streamflow globally.
Understanding interactions among climate, water, and vegetation with the Budyko framework

Abstract:The Budyko models provide a transparent framework for analyzing climate-catchment interactions and therefore have been widely used to quantify the role of vegetation influencing the partitioning of precipitation (P) into evapotranspiration (ET) and runoff (R) at watershed to regional scales under a changing environment. This study provides a thorough review of the use of Budyko models for answering modern hydrological questions including the relation between vegetation dynamic and catchment ET (or runoff) and climate change impacts on water balances. Our synthesis suggests that:When vegetation structure and rooting characteristics are included, the Budyko models can explain over 90% of global spatial variations in ET. Budyko models showed that although climate dominates the catchment water balance, forest cover change also accounts for 30.7% ± 22.5% change in annual runoff in watersheds globally. Vegetation in watersheds with a low water retention capacity tends to play a more important role than climate change. Vegetation effects on annual runoff are most pronounced in water-limited regions and large scale revegetation can contribute 60% of the total observed change in the annual runoff. Budyko models can be used to study the joint impacts of climate seasonality (rainfall frequency and the time lag between maximum precipitation and net radiation) and vegetation on interannual variations in water balances.We conclude that vegetation dynamics have been successfully incorporated into the Budyko framework in the past two decades. The Budyko framework can be extended to provide insights into the interactions between climate, hydrology, and ecology. Uses of the Budyko framework for studying the hydrological effects of vegetation dynamics under a changing climate require analytical derivations of the models that incorporate climate-vegetation coevolution procedures.

Abstract:[1] On the basis of long time series of climate and discharge in 108 nonhumid catchments in China this study analyzes the spatial and temporal variability of annual water-energy balance using the Budyko hypothesis. For both long-term means and annual values of the water balances in the 108 catchments, Fu's formula derived from the Budyko hypothesis is confirmed. A high correlation and relatively small systematic error between the values of parameter v in Fu's equation optimized from the water balance of individual year and calibrated from the long-term mean water balance show that Fu's equation can be used for predicting the interannual variability of regional water balances. It has been found that besides the annual climate conditions the regional pattern of annual water-energy balance is also closely correlated with the relative infiltration capacity (K-s/i(r)), relative soil water storage (S-max/E-0), and the average slope ( tan beta). This enables one to estimate the parameter v from catchment characteristics without calibration from the long time series of water balances. An empirical formula for the parameter v in terms of the dimensionless landscape parameters is proposed. Applications of Fu's equation together with the parameter v estimated by this empirical formula have shown that Fu's equation can predict both long-term mean and annual value of actual evapotranspiration accurately and predict both long-term mean and interannual variability of runoff reasonably. This implies that the Fu's equation can be used for predicting the annual water balance in ungauged basins.

Abstract:<p>The Budyko framework can effectively quantify the effects of climate change and human activities on runoff changes; however, the impact of specific ecological construction measures on water balance requires further investigation. In this study, a Budyko framework was used to analyze the impact of ecological construction measures on the long-term water-energy balance and quantify the contribution of climate variables and ecological construction measures to runoff change. First, the explanatory variables of land surface parameters were selected and evaluated; next, the long-term rainfall-runoff models were established based on the Budyko hypothesis with land surface parameters expressed as a function of explanatory variables. Finally, the runoff elasticities of each explanatory variable were derived, and the contribution of climate variables and ecological construction measures to runoff change at different sub-periods were further analyzed. The framework was applied to the Wuding River, which is a large tributary of the Yellow River located in the Loess Plateau, and a bootstrapping technique was applied to conduct cross validation of the proposed framework. Among the five ecological construction measures, i.e. horizontal terraces, check-dams, artificial grasslands, artificial afforestation, and natural reforestation, the most significant impact on the long-term water-energy balance was the natural reforestation; the role of artificial grassland on runoff was also significant. Analysis of contribution rates to runoff change revealed that precipitation is the main factor associated with the decrease in runoff from the 1970s to the 1990s compared to the baseline period from 1957 to 1971, and the impact of vegetation measures increased and gradually became dominant after the year 2000.</p>

Abstract:The occurrence of water scarcity and extreme hydrological events is becoming increasingly frequent worldwide. The river runoff process, as an important link in the water cycle of a basin, is an essential content of the study of hydrological processes in the basin. Vegetation is an influencing factor closely related to hydrological processes in a watershed. This article quantitatively analyzes the impact of vegetation restoration and climate variation on runoff in the Luan River Basin from 1982 to 2018. Firstly, trend analysis was conducted on runoff depth, precipitation, the Normalized Vegetation Index (NDVI), and reference evaporation. Then, Mann–Kendall mutation analysis and Pettitt mutation analysis were used to identify the year of runoff mutation. Finally, a Budyko model was constructed to quantitatively analyze the impact of vegetation and climate change on the runoff of the Luan River. The results showed that: (1) The runoff reduction rate of the Luan River was 1.2437 mm/a. The precipitation was increasing at a rate of 0.6977 mm/a. The reference evaporation rate decreased at a rate of 0.0977 mm/a. The annual growth rate of the Budyko parameter (n) was 0.0283. The annual growth rate of NDVI was 0.0022. (2) The coefficient of determination in the functional equation (a = 14.74, b = −3.4105) for NDVI and Budyko parameter (n) was 0.3297 (p < 0.01). (3) The contributions of Pr, ET0, NDVI, and (n) to reduced flow were −17.49%, 1.46%, 35.25%, and 80.78%, respectively. The increase in vegetation would lead to a decrease in runoff. This study can clarify the impact of vegetation restoration on water resource security in the Luan River Basin.

Abstract:The growth of vegetation is affected by water availability, while vegetation growth also feeds back to influence regional water balance. A better understanding of the relationship between vegetation state and water balance would help explain the complicated interactions between climate change, vegetation dynamics, and the water cycle. In the present study, the impact of vegetation coverage on regional water balance was analyzed under the framework of the Budyko hypothesis by using data from 99 catchments in the nonhumid regions of China, including the Inland River basin, the Hai River basin, and the Yellow River basin. The distribution of vegetation coverage on the Budyko curve was analyzed, and it was found that a wetter environment (higher P/E0) had a higher vegetation coverage (M) and was associated with a higher evapotranspiration efficiency (E/E0). Moreover, vegetation coverage was related not only to climate conditions (measured by the dryness index DI = E0/P) but also to landscape conditions (measured by the parameter n in the coupled water–energy balance equation). This suggests that the regional long‐term water balance should not vary along a single Budyko curve; instead, it should form a group of Budyko curves owing to the interactions between vegetation, climate, and water cycle. A positive correlation was found between water balance component (E/P) and vegetation coverage (M) for most of the Yellow River basin and for the Inland River basin, while a negative correlation of M ∼ E/P was found in the Hai River basin. Vegetation coverage was successfully incorporated into an empirical equation for estimating the catchment landscape parameter n in the coupled water–energy balance equation. It was found that interannual variability in vegetation coverage could improve the estimation of the interannual variability in regional water balance.

Abstract:Vegetation plays an essential role in the atmospheric and hydrological processes, and vegetation responds differently to climate change in various regions, especially in extreme climates. Therefore, the use of static prescribed vegetation information from past years in numerical models can be a source of biases in hydrological simulations. However, previous studies have mainly focused on the effects of vegetation dynamics on hydrological processes in arid and semi‐arid regions. It remains unclear how static or dynamic vegetation affects hydrological simulations in humid regions, especially under drought conditions. In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model coupled with Noah‐MP was used to assess the impact of vegetation dynamics on hydrological simulations in the East River basin (ERb) of China, which is a major water source for several major cities in the Pearl River Delta. The model was run with prescribed and dynamic vegetation conditions, respectively. Our model validation based on observed 2‐m temperature (T2) and Leaf Area Index (LAI) showed that the model performance was improved when vegetation dynamics were considered. Our simulations with static or dynamic vegetation showed the impacts of vegetation dynamics on hydrological simulations under droughts. The model with vegetation dynamics simulated a wetter condition with higher soil moisture and runoff and lower T2, compared with the simulations of static vegetation. The results suggested that ignoring vegetation dynamics may overestimate the severity of drought in this humid basin, unlike arid and semi‐arid regions. Therefore, consideration of vegetation dynamics in this humid basin will deepen our research on different types of zones and serve as a reference for other humid regions.
