Abstract:Abstract Background One of the most important demographic challenges over the recent three decades in the world has been a significant fall in the fertility rate. This study aimed to investigate factors related to childbearing intentions among a sample of Iranian women. Methods A cross-sectional study of a sample of Iranian married women attending 8 centers in Saveh was conducted in 2015. A total of 483 married women 15–49 years old participated in this study. A questionnaire was used to collect data about demographics, attitude, subjective norms, marital satisfaction, social support, hopefulness, and behavioral intentions of childbearing. Results Overall, 62% of women in the study intended to have children in the next 2 years. The group willing to have children had a higher score on attitude, subjective norms, hopefulness, perceived social support, and marital satisfaction compared to the group unwilling to have children. Also, the regression results revealed that the variables of age, literacy status, employment status, husband literacy, women and husband occupation status, attitude, subjective norms, hopefulness, perceived social support, and marital satisfaction were significant predicting factors for childbearing intention ( P < 0.05). Conclusions and recommendations The findings highlighted the importance of psychological factors such as marital satisfaction and social support in the childbearing process. Thus, health system planners should pay more attention to these determinants of fertility intention.
Psychological and Sociodemographic Predictors of Fertility Intention among Childbearing-Aged Women in Hamadan, West of Iran: An Application of the BASNEF Model

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Fertility and childbearing are the most important determinants of population variation around the world. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the psychological and sociodemographic factors predicting fertility intention among women referred to comprehensive health centers in Hamadan based on the beliefs, attitudes, subjective norms, and enabling factors (BASNEF) model.METHODS: This descriptive analytical study was performed in comprehensive health centers in Hamadan in 2016. Through a multi-stage sampling method, 484 women were enrolled in the study. The data collection tool was a selfreport questionnaire based on the constructs of the BASNEF model. Data were analyzed using linear regression, independent t-test, and a one-way analysis of variance using IBM SPSS software ver. 22.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA).RESULTS: The mean±standard deviation of the women's age was 31.85±6.13 years. The variables of motivation to comply (β=0.228), enabling factors (β=0.162), subjective norms (β=0.134), and attitude (β=0.122) were the predictors of fertility intention in women. This model was able to explain 16.8% of variance in behavioral intention. Also, lower age, higher education, shorter duration of marriage, and having a daughter resulted in a greater fertility intention.CONCLUSION: It seems that designing and implementing educational programs to improve attitudes, promoting positive subjective norms, and enhancing enabling factors can play a major role in increasing fertility intention in women.
Effectiveness of an Educational Intervention Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior on Fertility Intention of Single-child Women: A Field Trial Study

Abstract:Aims: Fertility is an important factor for population growth and its proportion. Regarding the overall decrease in the total fertility rate in Iran and reaching below the replacement rate, this study aimed at determining the effect of the education based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) on women’s fertility intention. Methods & Materials: This interventional study was conducted on 100 pregnant women of reproductive age covered by the Gonabad community health centers. The subjects were selected through two-stage cluster sampling and randomly assigned to the control and experimental groups (n=50 per group). Data were analyzed using SPSS V. 20 and Independent t-test, paired t-test, and Chi-square test. Findings: There was no significant difference between the demographic characteristics of the subjects in the experimental and control groups. Before the intervention, there was no significant difference between the mean score of the theoretical constructs between the two groups. After the intervention, the mean score of attitude (P=0.014), perceived behavioral control (P=0.042), and behavioral intention (P=0.005) were significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: The results showed that the educational intervention based on TPB could positively affect the fertility intention of single-child women. Hence, it is suggested to use this model in educational programs related to population growth policy and to plan interventions encouraging couples to have another child.
Immediate Antecedents of Intentions for Having Children in Southeast Iranian Women

Abstract:Background: Over the last decade, Iran has experienced a declining birth trend. Identifying the proximate determinants of fertility intentions among married women is informative for population studies. This study aimed to examine the importance of three immediate antecedents of fertility intention. Methods: We invited 1,100 married women to complete a well-validated questionnaire based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB). The sampling framework consisted of visitors attending hospitals in two cities in southeastern Iran. Intention for having children was measured using the item "Do you intend to have a/another child during the next 3 years?" Attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control were measured using eight, three, and three items, respectively. Structural equation modeling was used to specify the model and to test the predictive ability of the TPB constructs. Results: The response rate was 90.7% (N=998), and the mean±standard deviation age of the respondents was 34.8±7.4 years. More than 50% of the respondents reported intending to have a child in the next 3 years. All three TPB model constructs showed significant associations with fertility intentions. The standardized beta coefficients for attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control were 0.74, 0.41, and 0.55, respectively. Conclusion: The TPB model showed that psychological mechanisms play an important role in predicting the childbearing intentions of married women in Iran. Of the three TPB constructs, attitude was the strongest predictor of the intention to have a child.
Principal factors affecting couples' childbearing policies: A roadmap for policymaking

Abstract:Background: The concept of negative population growth, population aging, and the need to implement child-encouraging policies is an important concern in many countries. As this issue is completely cultural and country-based, this study is designed to assess and prioritize the perception of newly married couples to the policies that may have a crucial role in the childbearing intention around the world. Materials and Methods: Through a descriptive cross-sectional study, 300 couples were selected by a simple random sampling method. Multilevel binary logistic regression was used for investigating the relationships among dimensions of family policies, socio-demographic variables, and childbearing intention. Results: Childbearing perception positively correlated with education and permanent job in both genders, maternal age range of 25–35, the higher length of marriage, having more children, and living in a government settlement. The most important family policies that couples preferred were contextual requirements (mean rank of 4.50%). Positive childbearing perception negatively correlated with higher age categories in women, the number of children, rental housing status, no insurance access, higher educational attainment, and low employment ranks in both men and women. Conclusions: This study cleared that family policies affect the childbearing intention of young couples. Polices involved contextual requirements, supporting couples to integrate work and home, health promotion plans, child-centered social support, and promoting the level of social and cultural relations.

Abstract:Introduction: One of the serious challenges that societies all over the world are facing is the tendency of couples to have fewer children and to delay it. It is possible thatcovid-19 pandemic, in addition to the previous reasons, attitudes and factors affecting childbearing, may make couples physically and psychologically hesitant to accept the role of parents. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the attitude and intention to childbearing age during Covid-19 pandemic in married women of reproductive age in Yazd City in year 2022. Methods: This descriptive-cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2022 to June 2022 on 225 married women aged 15-40 covered by comprehensive health centers in Yazd-Iran. The data were collected by completing the demographic information questionnaire, the Persian Version of Attitudes toward Fertility and Childbearing Scale that was approved in 2014 by Baezt et al.; obtaining a higher score indicated a more favorable attitude By answering to the open-ended questions, by self-reporting and electronically, the information related to the factors affecting the intention to have children was collected. The data were analyzed with SPSS16 software. Results: The results showed that the attitude towards having children in the research community was not favorable (66.96 ± 10.55). Economic problems (n=184, 81.1%), Covid 19 pandemic (n=129, 56.4%) and the importance to comfort and convenience of parents (n=70, 30.8%) was considered as one of the most important factors affecting couples intention to childbearing. Conclusion: Although the spread of communicable diseases and epidemics can affect the desire of couples to childbearing, but the economic problems and the economic consequences of the pandemic, had undeniable and greater effects on the desire of families childbearing.

Abstract:Casein kinase-1 is a family of ubiquitous eukaryotic protein kinases that frequently function in tandem with the ubiquitin modification system to modulate protein turnover and trafficking. In Alzheimer's disease, these enzymes colocalize with ubiquitinated lesions, including neurofibrillary tangles and granulovacuolar degeneration bodies, suggesting they also play a role in disease pathogenesis. To identify binding partners that potentially regulate or recruit these enzymes toward disease lesions, a Sos-recruitment yeast two-hybrid screen was performed with human Ckidelta (the casein kinase-1 isoform most closely linked to granulovacuolar degeneration bodies) and a human brain cDNA library. All interacting clones contained a single open reading frame termed casein kinase-1 binding protein (CK1BP). On the basis of sequence alignments, CK1BP was a structural homologue of the acidic domain of dysbindin, a component of the dystrophin-associated protein complex and the biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles complex-1. CK1BP interacted with full-length Ckidelta, the isolated Ckidelta catalytic domain, Ckigamma2, -gamma3, and -epsilon in the yeast two-hybrid system, and bound Ckidelta and -epsilon in pulldown assays but did not interact with Ckialpha. Interaction with the Ckidelta catalytic domain led to concentration-dependent inhibition of protein kinase activity in the presence of protein substrates tau and alpha-synuclein. Although intact dysbindin did not bind any CK1 isoform, deletion of its coiled-coil domain yielded a protein fragment that behaved much like CK1BP in two-hybrid screens. These data suggest that the acidic domain of dysbindin and its paralogs in humans may function to recruit casein kinase-1 isoforms to protein complexes involved in multiple biological functions.

Abstract:Background: Given the unprecedented global decline in fertility as a major demographic development in recent years, the present study was conducted to determine Causal association Between Family Health, Perceived Relationship Quality Components, and Attitudes toward Childbearing in Iranian Women: A WHO Model Analysis METHODS: In 2023, this descriptive study recruited 400 married women presenting to selected comprehensive health centers affiliated to Alborz University of Medical Sciences, Karaj, Iran. The data were collected through multistage stratified cluster sampling and using a socioeconomic status questionnaire (Ghodratnama), the Perceived Relationship Quality Components (PRQC) scale, the family-of-origin scale (FOS), the attitudes toward fertility and childbearing scale (AFCS) and a demographic checklist were analyzed in SPSS 25 and LISREL 8.8. Results: According to the path analysis, family health exerted the most significant and positive causal effect on attitudes to childbearing directly through one path (B = 0.334) and relationship quality (B = 0.698) and duration of married life (B = 0.387) both directly and indirectly. The number of children (B = -0.057), however, exerted the most significant and negative causal effect on attitudes to childbearing through both paths. Conclusions: The present findings suggested the significant effects of family health and relationship quality on attitudes toward childbearing. It is therefore recommended that these variables be screened in comprehensive health centers, the associated limitations and problems be identified and appropriate training and counseling solutions be provided by health specialists.

Abstract:Background & Aims: Childbearing is important for the increase of population; for countries where fertility rate is low, it is important for sustainable development. The present study aims to evaluate the relationship of accountability and religious orientation with childbearing intention in women referred to comprehensive health centers in Yasouj, Iran. Materials & Methods: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted in 2019-2020 on 240 fertile married women aged 18-45 years referred to comprehensive health centers in Yasouj city, who were selected by a continuous sampling method. Inclusion criteria were no debilitating diseases, mental illnesses, or contraindication for pregnancy. A sociodemographic form, Harrison-Goff Accountability Scale, and Golriz and Baraheni’s Religious Attitude Scale were used to collect data. Data analysis was done in SPSS software, version 20 using chi-square test, independent t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. P<0.05 was statistically significant. Results: There was a negative and significant relationship between accountability and childbearing intention (P=0.036); the intention to have children was significantly lower in women with a higher accountability score. Religious orientation and its two dimensions (intrinsic and extrinsic orientation) had no significant relationship with childbearing intention. Age (P=0.001), length of marriage (P=0.001), and number of male children (P=0.011) had significant correlation with childbearing intention. Conclusion: In Yasuj city, the fertile women’s intention to have children decreases with the increase in their responsibilities, age, length of marriage, and number of male children. Therefore, it is recommended that these women be encouraged to have children at a younger age. It may be possible to encourage women with higher accountability to have children by teaching childbearing skills to them. Further studies are needed in this field.
Evaluation of the Predictive Power of the Theory of Planned Behavior on the Intention of Pregnant Women to Neonatal Care

Abstract:Abstract Background : Considering that neonatal are the most sensitive group to kind of diseases, the present study aimed to evaluation of the predictive power of the Theory of Planned Behavior on the intention of pregnant women to neonatal care. Method: In this cross-sectional study, 100 pregnant women in trimester of pregnancy were selected by random sampling. Data was collected using valid and reliable questionnaire and interviews conducted with pregnant women. The questionnaire included demographic characteristic of the mothers and theory planned behavior construct. Finally the data were analyzed by SPSS 20 T-test, Chi-square, Correlation, ANOVA and regression. Results: The average age of the sample was 26.12±4.9 and the average duration of marriage age was 3.9 ±2.74 years. There was a high correlation between perceived behavioral control and behavioral intention (r=0.40; p < 0.001). Over 40% of pregnant women were shown to lack overall Knowledge about the items related to neonatal care. The mothers who were better prepared for parenting tended to have a higher level of schooling, perceived control behavior and knowledge. Regression analysis showed that the knowledge and perceived behavior control R 2 =32% in the prediction of neonatal care intentions. Conclusions: Findings of this study show support for the predictive ability of the theory of planned behavior in predicting for neonatal care therefore the design of educational intervention should be based on intention and knowledge as the most important predictors of maternal behavior.
Factors influencing childbearing intention among married women of reproductive age in Bueng Kan Province

Abstract:Background: Globally, the total fertility rate (TFR), the average of births per woman has declined from 3.2 in 1990 to 2.3 in 2020. There have been at least 23 countries whose population has decreased by 50%, including Thailand. Bueng Kan Province is one of Thai provinces experiencing the decline of birth rates. In 2012, there were 5,341 newborns, and the number decreased to 3,093 in 2021. Objectives: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the factors influencing childbearing intention among married women of reproductive age in Bueng Kan Province. Methods: A total of 298 married women were selected by systematic random sampling process. A structured questionnaire was used. Descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression were used to determine the magnitude of childbearing intention and associated factors. The association was described with an Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) and 95% Confidence Interval (95% CI) at the statistically significant level of p-value< 0.05. Results: The findings revealed that 20.81% (95 % CI: 16.33 to 25.86) of the sample intended to have children in the future. The factors influencing childbearing intention among married women of reproductive age were monthly income (AOR= 3.23, 95%CI: 1.23 to 8.42, p-value 0.016), and positive attitudes towards childbearing (AOR= 3.41, 95%CI: 2.27 to 5.11, p-value <0.001). Conclusion: According to the results, income and positive attitudes play an important role in deciding to have children. Thus, government policies of childbearing should be established in order to promote fertility. Encouraging people to have positive attitudes towards childbearing should also be involved.

Abstract:Abstract Background: Persistence of low fertility in many countries has been a research concern during the last two decades. Childbearing decision-making is a complex process, involving many social, economic, political, and personal factors. We aim to provide comprehensive information about the core determinants of fertility intentions Methods: Ovid, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and GOOGLE SCHOLAR was searched for the relevant articles published from 1946 to December 2017. The current systematic review included the original and quantitative longitudinal and cross-sectional studies in English, The subjects of the studies were men and/or women in reproductive age (men aged 18-55 and women aged 18-45). Family planning methods were available in the reference country. Studies with less than 200 participants were excluded. Results: 45 Studies included in the qualitative synthesis.310727 participants included in the analysis. All effective factors in childbearing decision- making were classified into three main categories: Individual factors, Couple Puzzle, and Contextual factors. Factors such as age, religion, education, employment, and economic conditions were classified as individual factors. We also had a special focus on couples. As fertility is a dyadic process, for more emphasis we explained the couple relationship in case of the couple puzzle. Partnership Status, Gender Role Attitudes, Couple Desire, and Partnership Quality are the main aspects of couples puzzle Social network support (interaction within networks of family and friends) and family support environment are associated with childbearing intentions among couples. Conclusion: Further collaborative efforts by researchers and funding agencies will enable us to reveal fundamental mechanisms that affect and control fertility choices at different levels. As there are limited instances of interdisciplinary studies, studying fertility would highly benefit by crossing disciplinary and geographic boundaries. Although native scholars conduct fertility investigations in each country, the majority of research on fertility does not often communicate with one another.
Factorial structure of the Persian version of Childbearing Questionnaire in first time engaged couples in Iran

Abstract:The primary aim of this study was to assess the factorial structure of a Childbearing Questionnaire (CBQ). Using confirmatory factor analysis, it examined modified eight-factor models on a sample of 448 couples. Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.90 and 0.83 for positive and negative childbearing motivation, respectively, and the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was in the range of 0.81-0.86, which indicated that the reliability of the questionnaire was high. The modified model was found to have 'adequate' fitness based on the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA), but other indicators such as the Tucker-Lewis Index (TLI) and Comparative Fit Index (CFI) did not show any 'acceptable' fitness. In the eight-factor model, three factors with low loading were removed to achieve adequate fitness. Also, 13 correlated error terms were added to the modified model. The confirmatory factor analysis of the modified model showed 'adequate' fitness (CFI = 0.91, TLI =0.9, RMSEA = 0.06 and Chi-square to a degree of freedom ratio (χ2/df) = 3.49). This study supported the use of CBQ as a valid and reliable instrument of childbearing in engaged couples. Impact statement Current research on the subject: Some studies have suggested that the construct validity, internal consistency and the test-retest reliability of a Childbearing Questionnaire (CBQ) are high. The contribution made by the results of this study: It determined the reliability (internal consistency and test-retest reliability), the content validity and construct validity (confirmatory factor analysis) of the Persian version of the Childbearing Questionnaire. The implications of findings for clinical practice and further research: This reliable and valid instrument can be used for measuring the factors affecting childbearing motivations among engaged couples.

In this cross-sectional study, 1200 individuals (including 600 women aged 18-49 years and 600 men aged 18-59 years) referred to urban and rural health centres in Zanjan, were recruited through cluster sampling from June to September 2020. The Cardiff Fertility Knowledge Scale was used to assess fertility knowledge. Data were analysed by descriptive statistical methods such as mean and standard deviation and analytical statistics, including independent sample t-test, ANOVA test, Pearson Correlation and Linear Regression were used. The average correct scores of fertility knowledge were 49.7%, 53.3%, and 51.55% for men, women, and in total, respectively. The multiple linear regression model showed that fertility knowledge was significantly related to being female, being from a higher economic status, having desire to have children in the future, and having desire to increase fertility knowledge (all p < 0.05). Fertility knowledge among the Iranian reproductive-age men and women was modest. The findings suggested that interventions to increase fertility knowledge are essential, especially interventions targeting men and lower socioeconomic groups.

A systematic review of factors influencing the childbearing intentions of college students in developed and developing countries

Abstract:This paper provides in-depth knowledge regarding the fundamental factors influencing college students’ childbearing intentions. We used PubMed, ProQuest Dissertations, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Scopus, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure to search for relevant articles published between January 1946 and April 2023. Among these, we incorporated 51 studies conducted in 20 countries into a quantitative synthesis. The results indicated that there were differences between developed and developing countries in terms of the factors influencing college students’ childbearing intentions. The primary factors affecting childbearing intentions in developed countries were fertility knowledge, personal pursuits, and partner relationships. However, the influencing factors in developing countries were more complex: Financial pressures and personal pursuits deterred college students from their aspirations to have children, and these challenges delayed their intended reproductive age. Implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract:Background and Aims: Marriage is one of the most important events in life, and each of the consequences of reducing marriage creates its own problems. And by recognizing girls' attitudes toward marriage, it is possible to predict their behavior to some extent in the future. In this way, it alerts them to potential psychological and social harms that could threaten them. Therefore, the researchers decided to conduct a study with the aim of determining the correlation between fear of marriage and attitudes towards childbirth and child care in female students of Abadan University of Medical Sciences in 2019. Materials and Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional analytical study conducted on 234 female students of Abadan University of Medical Sciences in 2019. Two questionnaires on fear of marriage and a questionnaire on childbirth and childcare were completed by participants and analyzed using SPSS software, Chi-square and test_T tests, Anova and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The results showed that the average fear of marriage and the average overall score of attitude towards children and childbirth are in the average range. In addition, there is a significant negative correlation between these two variables, so that with increasing attitude towards child and childbirth (positive attitude), the average fear of marriage decreased. (0.01=p) (-65/0 =r). Conclusion: With the increase in attitudes toward children and childbirth (positive attitudes), the average fear of marriage decreased. Therefore, it is suggested that basic and basic education be provided for teenage girls and students, and that existing fears be clarified and training the importance and principles of proper marriage and its impact on individual development should be considered on a large scale in society.
