Abstract:Colloidal delivery systems have been widely used as carriers for controlled delivery of pesticides to improve the efficacy and photostability of natural and semi-synthetic pesticides. In this study, we have synthesized emamectin benzoate nanoformulations (EB + NFs) depending on polymeric nanocapsules (PNC) and two types of the nanosilica, mesoporous nanosilica (MCM-48) and silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SNPs) as carriers for the emamectin benzoate (EB). The fabricated nanoformulations were characterized by using X-ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, particle size, zeta potential, morphology, absolute recovery (AR), entrapment efficiency (EE), UV stability and release kinetics. The obtained results showed that the carriers had a remarkable loading ability for EB and improved the EB photostability. The EE% of nanoformulations were 92.84%, 87.45% and 71.19% for emamectin benzoate polymeric nanocapsules (EB + PNC), emamectin benzoate SNPs (EB + SNPs) and emamectin benzoate MCM-48 (EB + MCM-48) respectively. The insecticidal activity of EB + NFs against Plutella xylostella showed that the EB + SNPs was more effective than other EB + NFs and EB alone. The LC50 values were 0.18, 4.03, 8.49 and 11.06 mg L-1 for EB + SNPs, EB + MCM-48, EB + PNC and EB respectively. The obtained results suggest the colloidal delivery systems that used in this study could improve the efficacy and photostability for EB, and they are able to overcome the disadvantage of the natural and semi-synthetic pesticides such as environmental sensitivity and to increase the efficacy of pesticides, which eventually leads to reduce the dosage of pesticides needed, reducing the number of applications required in comparison to conventional formulations.
Characterization of an antibacterial peptide from indian cobra (Naja naja) venom

Abstract:Due to the development of antibiotic resistance in microorganisms, antimicrobial peptides from natural sources have attracted attention in recent times. Several antimicrobial peptides have been isolated from a wide range of animal sources, particularly snake venoms. Naja naja venom showed antibacterial as well as direct and indirect hemolytic activities, and an antibacterial peptide was purified through gel permeation and ion exchange chromatography. Its molecular mass was 2491Da, which was determined using Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time-of-Flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and the amino acids sequence of the N-terminus was DEQSTHGAYVWKL. The purified peptide showed potent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains like Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Vibrio cholerae, and Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus subtilis, respectively. The most potent activity was towards Gram-negative bacteria. Activity was retained at concentrations as low as 100µg/ml. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC; in mg) of Naja Antibacterial Peptide (NAP) and known antibiotics against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria were determined using microdilution susceptibility test in sterile 96-well microdilution plates. However, the peptide did not show direct or indirect hemolytic activity.
Balance the rapid release of insecticide microcapsules using double-layer shielding effect when the foliar application

Abstract:The development of microencapsulation is currently blocked by the mismatch between the release rate and pest-control demand in terms of improving the photostability of pesticides. Achieving both long-term stability and quick release of pesticides through the use of microcapsules (MCs) is an effective way to increase pesticide efficiency. Sodium lignosulfonate and four types of polyalkyl quaternary ammonium salts (PQAS) were used as shell materials in the fabrication of four types of microcapsules by electrostatic self-assembly. The effects of the PQAS alkyl chain length on the morphology, zeta potential, molecular electrostatic potential, particle size distribution, encapsulation efficiency, release behaviour, anti-photolysis performance, and field application effects of the MCs were investigated. The four types of MCs were spherical and 0.5–3 μm in size, and they had an encapsulation efficiency of more than 75%. The X-ray diffraction results showed that the longer the alkyl chain of PQAS was, the looser the material formed by electrostatic attraction was. With the increase of the alkyl chain length of PQAS, the MCs shell was looser and easier to deform, leading to rapid nuclear release. Therefore, the MCs shells were looser and more prone to deformation with increasing PQAS alkyl chain length, resulting in the quick release of the core. This quick release of the core to the bottom of the microcapsules and the loose shell formed a double-layer structure, which effectively prevented ultraviolet degradation. Therefore, abamectin MCs with quick-release and favourable anti-photolysis performances showed advantages in controlling Plutella. xylostella and Pieris. rapae insect pests Octadecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride can be used to fabricate loose MCs by electrostatic self-assembly, which achieves both rapid and long-term pest control.

Abstract:Photolysis and poor retention significantly decrease the utilization efficiency of photosensitive agrochemicals, leading to considerable ecological and economic losses. We successfully prepared novel pyraclostrobin-loaded polyurethane-inorganic hybrid microcapsules (Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs) with high adhesion and UV stability by interfacial polymerization. CeO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) were incorporated as UV light absorbers, while a silane coupling agent (KH550) was employed for in situ crosslinking of PU with CeO 2 NPs, facilitating their dispersion within the PU shell. Characterization results revealed a high encapsulation efficiency of 90 % and uniform sizes (D 50 = 915 nm) for the Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs. Optical property investigations using UV–vis spectroscopy indicated that the integration of CeO 2 NPs within the PU shell produced stronger UV absorption bands compared to both Pyr technical (TC) and Pyr@PU MCs. This observation underscores the potential of CeO 2 NPs as effective UV absorbers. The anti-photolysis performance of Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs improved with the addition of CeO 2 NPs, yielding a retention rate of Pyr in Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs that was 1.90 and 1.27 times greater than that of Pyr TC and Pyr@PU MCs, respectively, under UV irradiation. Furthermore, KH550 not only facilitated crosslinking between PU and CeO 2 NPs, ensuring uniform distribution of CeO 2 NPs on the PU shell surface, but also enhanced wettability and foliar retention. The contact angle of Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs (32°) was significantly lower than that of Pyr@PU MCs (84°), and Pyr retention on rice leaves was 17.5 mg/cm 2 for Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs, surpassing that of Pyr@PU MCs (9.3 mg/cm 2 ). Additionally, Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs exhibited superior efficacy against various plant pathogens compared to Pyr TC and Seltima. These findings highlight the potential of Pyr@KCeO 2 -PU MCs for enhancing pesticide utilization and offer valuable insights for the future development of PU-based pesticide formulations.

Abstract:In the preparation of microcapsules (MCs) by interfacial polymerization, octaphenyl polyoxyethylene (OP) is utilized as an emulsifier to control the particle size distribution of MCs. In the preparation system with polyisocyanate as the oil phase monomer, OP has a single hydroxyl (-OH) group that can react with the isocyanic group (-CNO) to prevent polymerization, and the aggregation of OP at the oil-water interface affects the polymer configuration. By the "steric hindrance" and "polymer chain end sealing" of OP, the compactness of the shells was reduced significantly to produce soft MCs. As OP-10 was added and used to increase in pyraclostrobin-loaded MCs preparation, the deformation, adhesion and release of pyraclostrobin-loaded MCs were improved. Therefore, the water scouring resistance of MCs on peanut leaves increased significantly as the MCs became soft. Unfortunately, the safety of zebrafish ( Danio rerio ) declined at the same time. By foliar spraying to control peanut leaf spot in the rainy season, MCs-2% OP-10, with the strongest resistance to rainfall, had the best effect on disease control. In conclusion, an effective strategy is to balance the foliar application efficiency and ecotoxicity of pesticide-loaded MCs by regulating the compactness and components of shells to control their deformation, adhesion and pesticide release.

Abstract:The utilization of interfacial polymerization in the preparation of microcapsules with a slow-controlled release has been shown to effectively improve pesticide efficacy and reduce environmental pollution. In this study, polyurea microcapsules loaded with lambda-cyhalothrin were prepared by an interfacial polymerization method using modified isocyanate (MDI) as the wall material and GT-34 as the initiator. The microcapsules were fully characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, etc., and release behaviors were investigated. The results indicated that the microcapsules had a smooth surface and uniform distribution, the average particle size of the microcapsules was 1.97 μm, and the encapsulation efficiency of lambda-cyhalothrin microcapsules could reach 91.48%. Compared with other commercial formulations, the microcapsules exhibited an excellent sustained release property (>7 days) in a 50% acetonitrile aqueous solution (v/v). Subsequently, in vitro release studies showed that the lambda-cyhalothrin microcapsules could consistently control the release of the core materials at different pH, temperature, and MDI addition amount conditions. The release of lambda-cyhalothrin microcapsules was in accordance with the first-order model release, which was mainly by the Fickian diffusion mechanism. Furthermore, the biological activity on Myzus persicae showed that the microcapsules' persistence period was above 21 days, which was longer than that for the emulsifiable concentrate formulation.

Abstract:The temperature‐responsive pesticide delivery microcapsule, based on maleic anhydride‐functionalized cellulose nanocrystals‐stabilized Pickering emulsion, exhibited a high encapsulation rate and drug loading efficiency. Moreover, it demonstrated significant advantages over commercially available water‐dispersed particles of imidacloprid in terms of leaf surface diffusion and retention. The efficient use of pesticides is conducive to the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, and pesticide transport carriers can enhance the utilization value of pesticides. However, design flaws in many pesticide carriers have resulted in numerous environmental and toxicity problems. Therefore, this paper proposed a method for synthesizing pesticide microcapsules using Pickering emulsion templates stabilized by maleic anhydride‐functionalized cellulose nanocrystals‐g‐poly (methyl methacrylate) (MACNCs‐g‐MMA), viz., simple radical polymerization of maleic anhydride‐functionalized cellulose nanocrystals with methyl methacrylate in Pickering emulsion. The structure and morphology of microcapsules were characterized via the FT‐IR, XRD, TG‐DTG, and SEM techniques. The imidacloprid‐loaded MACNCs‐g‐MMA (IMI@MACNCs‐g‐MMA) presented a high encapsulation efficiency (~94.13%) and drug loading efficiency (~24.00%). The release behavior was affected by temperature, viz., higher temperature promoted the release of IMI. Regarding the spread and retention on the leaf surface, the IMI@MACNCs‐g‐MMA demonstrated significant advantages over commercial IMI water‐dispersible granules (CG) (36.9° vs. 104.9° for contact angle, 14.3 vs. 30.0 mg cm−2 for retention). This study provides a promising pesticide formula for sustainable agriculture.

Abstract:Microcapsulses can effectively encapsulate, protect, and control the release of insecticides. In this study, emulsion–solvent evaporation method was used to fabricate microcapsules (MCs) by using beta-cyhalothrin as the entrapped insecticide, dichloromethane as the solvent, polylactic acid (PLA) as the carrier materials, and polyvinyl alcohol as the emulsifier. Response surface methodology was used to determine the optimal process of beta-cyhalothrin MCs, the specific parameters are as follows: 0.52 g beta-cyhalothrin, 0.46 g PLA, 6.67 g dichloromethane and 0.37 g PVA. The fabricated beta-cyhalothrin MCs were characterized through microscopic morphology observation, particle size and distribution analysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The release kinetics in the acetonitrile and the bioassay of beta-cyhalothrin MCs were investigated. The results showed that the beta-cyhalothrin was successfully encapsulated in the PLA. The beta-cyhalothrin MCs showed a regular spherical structure, relatively uniform particle size, and the D50 was 2.44 μm. Compared to the technical beta-cyhalothrin, the beta-cyhalothrin MCs showed good sustained release performance and prolonged the control effect against Blattella germanica.

Abstract:Pesticides play a crucial role in securing food production, their safety usage remains a pressing concern. Traditional pesticide formulations have been scrutinized for their inefficiency, environmental hazards, and negative impacts on human health. Here, sulfonated cellulose nanocrystals (sCNC) were utilized to stabilize molten lambda-cyhalothrin (LC), forming stable Pickering emulsions via high-pressure homogenization (HPH). This process was followed by the generation of microcapsules through interfacial polymerization, a method that entirely forgoes the use of surfactants and organic solvents. The synthesized microcapsules showcased a size ranging from 250 to 1000 nm, with an impressive LC encapsulation efficiency of up to 99.29 %. These microcapsules maintained excellent stability, prolonging pest control duration in field applications, and exhibited reduced toxicity to zebrafish. A particularly groundbreaking discovery was the ability of microcapsules to mitigate skin irritation, a benefit previously unexplored in LC microencapsulation. Furthermore, these microcapsules demonstrated significant degradation within 14 days post-application, effectively minimizing prolonged pesticide residue on crops. This study highlights the eco-friendly production of microcapsules and their capacity to diminish the negative impacts associated with pesticide application. It paves the way for the wider implementation of encapsulation technologies in pesticides and offers critical insights into the creation of sustainable, safe, and effective pesticide formulations.

Abstract:Controlled pesticide release in response to environmental stimuli by encapsulating pesticide in carrier is a feasible approach to improve the effective utilization rate. Here, a temperature-responsive release microcapsule loaded with chlorpyrifos () was prepared from n-hexadecane-in-water emulsions via interfacial polymerization. The microcapsule was consisted of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) as the shell wall material and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as the crosslinker. The prepared had pesticide-loading efficiency (33.1 wt%) and favorable adhesion on the surface of cucumber and peanut foliage compared with conventional formulation. Additionally, could protect chlorpyrifos against photodegradation effectively. The in vitro release test showed that microcapsule had adjustable controlled-release characteristics with the change in temperature based on phase transition of the n-hexadecane core. Bioassay studies showed that control efficacy of microcapsule against P. xylostella was positively correlated with temperature because of temperature-induced changes in release rate. The acute toxicity of to zebrafish was reduced more than 5-fold compared with that of CPF technical. These results indicated that the microcapsule release system has great potential in the development of an effective and environmentally friendly pesticide formulation.

Abstract:The widespread application of pesticides has induced serious harm to environment and human health. The development of sustained pesticide delivery systems is an effective approach to solve the problems. In this work, a novel pesticide delivery system—acetamiprid/polyhydroxybutyrate-polyethylene glycol (ACE/PHB-PEG) microspheres was prepared and optimized, adopting polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB)/polyethylene glycol (PEG) as carrier, acetamiprid (ACE) as encapsulated material. The microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The in vitro release behavior and the insecticide activity of ACE/PHB-PEG microspheres were also conducted. Under central composite design (CCD) response surface analysis, the optimum conditions of preparing microspheres were obtained as follows: 7.945% of PHB, 1.255% of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and 5.964 of PHB/PEG (mass ratio). The microspheres were uniform and spherical with narrow particle size of (1.32 ± 0.77) μm and high encapsulation efficiency (EE) of 69.1 ± 1.28 %. The FTIR and XRD analysis further confirmed that the ACE-loaded PHB-PEG microspheres have been successfully developed by W 1 /O/W 2 solvent volatilization method, and there is no chemical reaction between ACE and carrier materials during the preparation process. Moreover, the microspheres showed excellent in vitro sustained release of ACE (80% within 23 d), and the releasing was governed by Fickian diffusion. Furthermore, the microspheres represented high insecticidal activities against Uroleucon formosanum within 48 h. The above results have demonstrated that the techniques here for the developing of ACE/PHB-PEG microspheres are feasible, and the microspheres show effective insecticidal activities. The ACE/PHB-PEG microspheres may have great potential to be applied in agriculture.

Abstract:Chitosan and sodium lignosulfonate are alternately deposited on the interface of alkaline lignin‐based Pickering emulsions through electrostatic interaction, thus forming biomass‐based microcapsules with tunable shell. In addition to improving the stability, chitosan and lignin also endow the microcapsules with pH/laccase‐responsive properties. Therefore, the microcapsules have great potential for the protection and controlled release of photosensitive drugs, e.g., avermectin. The extremely low utilization efficiency of pesticides has driven people to develop low‐cost, sustainable, and smart delivery systems. Pickering emulsion (PE) derived from biomass is an attractive candidate. However, the stability of PE is insufficient, and pesticide release from PE can be hardly tuned. Herein, a facile in situ PE modification strategy to construct a stable and high‐performance pesticide delivery system from biomass resources is reported. In this process, PE stabilized by alkali lignin nanoparticles is initially prepared, and subsequently, opposite‐charged chitosan (CH), and sodium lignosulfonate (SL) are alternatively deposited onto the PE interface through layer‐by‐layer assembly to form a microcapsule system (CH+SL)n@PE. The resulting biomass‐based microcapsules show improved stability, high encapsulation efficiency, and super UV protection to avermectin (AVM), a hydrophobic and photo‐sensitive pesticide. Furthermore, the shell thickness of microcapsules can be finely tuned by controlling the deposited CH+SL layers, which enable (CH+SL)n@PE to have adjustable release behaviors. (CH+SL)20@PE prolongs the half‐life of AVM under UV irradiation by 5.0‐fold. Moreover, (CH+SL)n@PE exhibits pH and laccase dual responsiveness, which is beneficial to the targeted release of AVM in vivo. Therefore, the current PE modification strategy can provide an eco‐friendly, low‐cost, and smart system for precise delivery of pesticides.

Crop Growth Scenario-Based Ph/temperature Dual-Responsive Degradable Polyurea Nano/microcapsules: Smart Pesticide Delivery and Sustainable Control of Fusarium Crown Rot in Wheat

Abstract:Designing smart pesticide delivery systems in response to the environmental factors of disease occurrence is critical to achieving targeted pesticide delivery, improving effective pesticide utilization and reducing environmental pollution. Herein, we prepared a novel chemically degradable pH/temperature dual-responsive polyurea capsule (Pyr@PU). The Pyr@PU was based on the diamine cross-linking agent 2,2-diethoxypropane (DAKT) containing acetal groups unstable to acids and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and the phase change material methyl myristate (melting point: 18 degrees C) was used as the oil phase. Owing to the acetal structure in the capsular shell and methyl myristate in the core, Pyr@PU has excellent acidic pH responsiveness and temperature sensitivity. 95.0 % of the fungicidewas released within 48 h at a weakly acidic condition (pH = 5.0), and the fungicide release rate at 35 degrees C was 3.6 and 10.4 times higher than that at 25 degrees C and 15 degrees C, respectively. Bioactivity assays showed a longer duration of Pyr@PU compared to the commercial emulsion (Pyr EC). The degradation rate of Pyr@PU microcapsules (Pyr@PU-Micro) (64.5 %) was significantly lower than Pyr EC (98.6 %) after 24-h UV irradiation. In the 96-h acute toxicity test, Pyr@PU-Micro (LC50 = 0.695 mg center dot L- 1) exhibited a lower toxicity to zebrafish than the Pyr (LC50 = 0.076 mg center dot L- 1), Pyr EC (LC50 = 0.108 mg center dot L- 1), and commercialized microcapsules (Pyr CS) (LC50 = 0.209 mg center dot L- 1). In summary, the new chemically degradable polyurea microcapsules improved the stability and duration of fungicide efficacy and provided a new solution for the effective control of Fusarium crown rot and the reduction of environmental pollution caused by microplastics.

Abstract:A novel bio-based and biodegradable aliphatic multi-block copolyester, poly(butylene 2-methylsuccinate)-poly (ethylene glycol) (PBMS-PEG), was synthesized from 1,4-butanediol (BDO), 2-methylsuccinate acid (MSA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) via direct esterification and polycondensation process with tetrabutyl titanate as catalyst. Thermo-sensitive PBMS-PEG micelles were obtained by self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolyesters in aqueous medium by dialysis method. These micelles with different PEG contents have sizes varying from 74.3 nm to 138.3 nm and are stable in water over 200 days without any precipitation. A hydrophobic pesticide, Avermectin, was encapsulated in micelles by the same dialysis method. Such PBMS-PEG micelles can be used as thermo-responsive drug carrier owing to their controlled lower critical solution temperature (LCST) which can be accurately adjusted by varying the PEG proportion. The LCST increases from 27.0 degrees C to 40.0 degrees C while increasing the PEG proportion from 30% to 60%. By using the HPLC measurements, the results show when the drug loading is up to 20%, the loading efficiency is still nearly 100%. The properties of these amphiphilic micelles show that the delivery system has a promising potential to be further explored for developing a highly effective and biodegradable hydrophobic-pesticide-release formulation.
An enzyme-responsive core-double shell structured nano pesticide delivery system for improving the UV stability of emamectin benzoate (EB)

Abstract:Currently, the inefficient application of pesticides results in substantial cost wastage and severe environmental contamination. The rapid advancement of nanomaterials and controlled/sustained-release technologies offer a promising guidance for reducing pesticide usage and enhancing pesticide bioavailability. In this study, naturally derived Zein and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) polysaccharide were employed for synergistic encapsulation of emamectin benzoate (EB) pesticide molecule. Specifically, amino-functionalized Zein (AM-Zein) was effectively self-assembled onto β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) through electrostatic and hydrogen bonding interactions, with simultaneous encapsulation of EB through hydrophobic interactions, thereby establishing a core-double shell structured nano pesticide delivery system (EB@β-CD/AM-Zein). Compared to the single AM-Zein and β-CD, the double shell structured β-CD/AM-Zein demonstrated a notably higher encapsulation efficiency for EB. Importantly, the half-life period (t 0.5 ) under UV irradiation of EB for EB@β-CD/AM-Zein was almost three times longer than that of EB alone. Enzyme-responsive controlled-release tests for EB@β-CD/AM-Zein revealed that the majority of EB was encapsulated within the inner β-CD layer. Specifically, the degradation of β-CD by α-amylase enabled the intelligent responsive release feature of EB. Moreover, the insecticidal activity of EB@β-CD/AM-Zein remained stable. This research offers valuable insights for developing effective and environmentally safe nano pesticide systems.

Abstract:Developing microcapsules (MCs) delivery systems can effectively mitigate toxicological risk of highly active/toxic pesticides; whereas the controlled release functions also limiting their practical effectiveness. Therefore, designing a precise regulating strategy to balance the toxicity and bioactivity of MCs is urgently needed. Here, we prepared a series of pyraclostrobin-loaded MCs with different wall materials, particle sizes, core density and shell compactness using interfacial polymerization. The results showed that the MCs released more slowly in water with increasing particle sizes and capsule compactness, and they sunk more quickly with the increasing particle sizes and core density. Additionally, MCs with slower release speed was always accompanied with lower acute toxicity levels to zebrafish. When the release dynamics slowed down to the threshold dose on demand for disease control, facilitating settlement of MCs can further reduce toxicity within spatial and temporal dimensions. The poor accumulation of MCs with larger particle sizes or dense shell in gills was closely related to their efficient detoxification. Importantly, seven of the MCs samples possessed superior selectivity between bio-performance in controlling rice blast and toxicological hazard to fish compared to commercial formulations. The results provide a comprehensive guidance for developing an efficient and safe pesticide delivery system.

Abstract:Microcapsulses can be designed to effectively encapsulate, protect, and control the release of pesticides. In this study, emulsion-solvent evaporation method was used to fabricate microcapsules using dichloromethane as the solvent, polylactic acid (PLA) as the carrier materials, poly(vinyl alcohol) as the emulsifier, and β-cypermethrin as the entrapped pesticide. The effects of process parameters on the microcapsules characteristics (size, loading content, and encapsulation efficiency) were investigated. Also, the release behavior of the β-cypermethrin was measured experimentally and modeled mathematically. Kinetic analysis indicated that release mechanism of β-cypermethrin was compatible to Fickian diffusion. By optimizing the process parameters, β-cypermethrin-loaded microcapsules were successfully produced with spherical shape, smooth surface, high encapsulation efficiency (> 80%), and a range of pesticide contents. These parameters could be adjusted to achieve delivery systems with desirable release profiles. The results are beneficial to develop delivery systems for rational and effective usage of pesticides.

Abstract:Dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), a promising alternative fumigant, has been highly desirable for excellent management of soil pests and diseases. However, high volatility and moderate toxicity of this sulfide limit its application. To address these issues, a novel controlled release formulation of DMDS was proposed employing multiple emulsions and polyurea microcapsules (). The successful combination of the two technologies was revealed by confocal laser scanning microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and Fourier transform infrared. According to the multiple encapsulation structure, the encapsulation efficiency decreased by only 3.13% after thermal storage, compared with a 15.21% decrease of microcapsules made with only a monolayer film. could effectively control the release of active ingredient, which increased applicator and environmental safety during application. Moreover, it could be facilely used by spraying and drip irrigation instead of a special fumigation device. The innovative formulation exhibited better control efficacy on soil pathogens (Fusarium spp. and Phytophthora spp.) and root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) than DMDS technical concentration (DMDS TC). In addition, it did not inhibit seed germination after 10 days when the plastic film was removed from the fumigated soil.
