Abstract:The unique enzyme-like properties of metal nanoparticles (NPs) hold great promise for chemical and biomedical applications; implementation relies on improvements in their catalytic efficiency. We have constructed PtCuCo nanostructures using hydrothermal treatment of Co3O4, Cu2+, and Pt2+ in aqueous solutions, resulting in PtCuCo trimetallic alloy NPs having hollow structures, as confirmed by TEM, XRD, XPS, and EDS analyses. These PtCuCo NPs are capable of oxidizing 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) in either the absence or presence of hydrogen peroxide, suggesting efficient peroxidase- and oxidase-like activity. These NPs could also catalyze the reduction of 4-nitrophenol by NaBH4. We believe that the combination of Pt and oxidized Cu and Co species results in surfaces with rich active sites possessing a wide range of electronic variation, which promotes both generation of hydroxyl radicals and electron transfer. Consequently, the catalytic capabilities of our PtCuCo NPs are greater than those of either Pt or PtCu NPs. Building upon the peroxidase-like activity of PtCuCo NPs, we developed a colorimetric method not only capable of specifically detecting glucose, but also able to detect rongalite and HS-, on the basis of the inhibitory effect of these substances upon PtCuCo nanoperoxidase.

Abstract:In this work, we develop a new type of mesoporous 2D N, B, and P codoped carbon network (NBP-CNW) arranged into high-order 3D nanotube arrays (NTAs), which are wrapped onto a flexible carbon fiber microelectrode, and this microelectrode is employed as a high-performance carbon-based nanocatalyst for electrochemical biosensing. The NBP-CNW-NTAs synthesized by a facile, controllable, ecofriendly and sustainable template strategy using ionic liquids as precursors possess a high structural stability, large surface area, abundant active sites, and effective charge transport pathways, which dramatically improve their electrocatalytic activity and durability in the redox reaction of cancer biomarker H 2 O 2 . Benefiting from these unique structural merits, superb electrochemical activity and good biocompatibility, the NBP-CNW-NTAs-modified microelectrode demonstrates excellent sensing performance toward H 2 O 2 and is embedded in a homemade microfluidic electrochemical biosensor chip for the real-time tracking of H 2 O 2 secreted from different live cancer cells with or without radiotherapy treatment, which provides a new strategy for distinguishing the types of cancer cells and evaluating the radiotherapeutic efficacy of cancer cells. Furthermore, the functional microelectrode is integrated into an implantable probe for the in situ detection of surgically resected human specimens to distinguish cancer tissues from normal tissues. These will be of vital significance for cancer diagnoses and therapy in clinical practice.

Abstract:One hundred sixty patients with idiopathic scoliosis underwent preoperative and postoperative sagittal plane analysis of the thoracic spine, thoracolumbar junction, and lumbar spine. The data suggest that mild to moderate improvements in thoracic hypokyphosis are possible. When crossing the thoracolumbar junction, reversal of rod bend and reversal of hooks on the derotation rod appears to provide the most physiologic sagittal contour. Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation to the mid and distal lumbar spine can preserve and, at times, enhance lumbar lordosis.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a gradient porous hollow fiber structure integrated the signal transduction within a microspace, serving as a platform for cellular metabolism monitoring. We developed a nonenzymatic electrochemical electrode by coupling carbon nanotubes (CNT) and metal organic frameworks (MOF) nanozyme on three-dimensional (3D) gradient porous hollow fiber membrane (GPF) for in-situ detection of cell released hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The GPF was used as a substrate for cell culture as well as the supporting matrix of the working electrode. The ultrasonically coupled CNT@MOF composite was immobilized on the outer surface of the GPF by means of pressure filtration. Notably, the MOF, acting as a peroxidase mimic, exhibits superior stability compared to traditional horseradish peroxidase. The incorporation of CNT not only provided sufficient specific surface area to improve the uniform distribution of MOF nanozyme, but also formed 3D conductive network. This network efficiently facilitates the electrons transfer during the catalytic process of the MOF, addressing the inherent poor conductivity of MOFs. The GPF-CNT@MOF nonenzymatic bioelectrode demonstrated excellent electrocatalytic performance including rapid response, satisfactory sensing selectivity, and attractive stability, which enabled the development of a robust in-situ cellular metabolic monitoring platform.

Abstract:Developing enzyme-free sensors with high sensitivity and selectivity for H2O2 and glucose is highly desirable for biological science. Especially, it is attractive to exploit noble-metal-free nanomaterials with large surface area and good conductivity as highly active and selective catalysts for molecular detection in enzyme-free sensors. Herein, we successfully fabricate hollow frameworks of Co3O4/N-doped carbon nanotubes (Co3O4/NCNTs) hybrids by the pyrolysis of metal-organic frameworks followed by calcination in the air. The as-prepared novel hollow Co3O4/NCNTs hybrids exhibit excellent electrochemical performance for H2O2 reduction in neutral solutions and glucose oxidation in alkaline solutions. As sensor electrode, the Co3O4/NCNTs show excellent non-enzymatic sensing ability towards H2O2 response with a sensitivity of 87.40μA (mmol/L)−1cm−2, a linear range of 5.00μmol/L–11.00mmol/L, and a detection limitation of 1μmol/L in H2O2 detection, and a good glucose detection performance with 5μmol/L. These excellent electrochemical performances endow the hollow Co3O4/NCNTs as promising alternative to enzymes in the biological applications.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is the most significant reactive oxygen species in biological systems. Here, we reported an electrochemical sensor for the detection of H2O2 on the basis of bimetallic gold-platinum nanoparticles (Au3Pt7 NPs) supported by Co-based metal organic frameworks (Co-MOFs). First, Au3Pt7 NPs, with optimal electrocatalytic activity and accessible active surface, can be deposited on the surface of the Co-MOF-modified glassy carbon electrodes (Au3Pt7/Co-MOFs/GCE) by one-step electrodeposition method. Then, the electrochemical results demonstrated that the two-dimensional (2D) Co-MOF nanosheets as the supporting material displayed better electrocatalytic properties than the 3D Co-MOF crystals for reduction of H2O2. The fabricated Au3Pt7/2D Co-MOF exhibited high electrocatalytic activity, and the catalytic current was linear with H2O2 concentration from 0.1 μM to 5 mM, and 5-60 mM with a low detection limit of 0.02 μM (S/N = 3). The remarkable electroanalytical performance of Au3Pt7/2D Co-MOF can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the high dispersion of the Au3Pt7 NPs with the marvelous electrochemical properties and the 2D Co-MOF with high-specific surface areas. Furthermore, this sensor has been utilized to detect H2O2 concentrations released from the human Hela cells. This work provides a new method for improving the performance of electrochemical sensors by choosing the proper support materials from diverse crystal morphology materials.

In this work, we develop a high-performance electrochemical biosensor based on highly active dual nanozyme amplified system, i.e., ultrathin two-dimension (2D) conductive metal–organic framework (C-MOF) nanosheets (NSs) decorated with high-density ultrafine gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs), and explore its application in sensitive detection of cancer biomarker H2O2 in live cells. The C-MOF NSs {i.e., Cu-HHTP (HHTP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene)-NSs} provide large surface area and abundant active open metal sites (Cu–O4), which could improve the catalytic activity of Cu-HHTP-NSs towards H2O2. Moreover, abundant exposed O atoms also serve as anchor sites for the deposition of high-density ultrafine Au-NPs (∼3 nm) without agglomeration. Owing to the synergistic contributions of high catalytic activity of Cu-HHTP-NSs and Au-NPs as well as their unique structural and electrical properties, the as-prepared nanohybrid modified electrode exhibits good sensing performances to H2O2 with an extremely low detection limit of 5.6 nM (3σ rules) and a high sensitivity of 188.1 μA cm−2 mM−1. Furthermore, the proposed nanozymatic electrochemical biosensor has been applied in real-time tracking H2O2 released from different human colon cells to identify colon cancer cells from normal colon epithelial cell, which demonstrates its great prospect for early diagnosis and management of various cancer diseases.

Abstract:The development of hierarchical nanostructure is demonstrated as an effective strategy to improve catalytic activity and stability of electrocatalysts. Herein, a novel leaf-like hierarchically porous heterojunction flake arrays (FAs), integrated graphitic N-doped carbon (NC) with amorphous B,N-doped carbon (BNC), has been designed and grown on flexible carbon fiber (CF) using metal-organic framework (MOF) FAs and green ionic liquids as precursors. The hierarchical heterojunction structure possesses micro- and nano-scaled pores, large surface areas, and exposed high-density catalytic active sites, which enhances electronic conductivity and offers accessible transport channels for effectively decreasing mass transport resistance. The results of discrete Fourier transform (DFT) calculations and experiments also suggest that the catalytic activity has been promoted by the heterojunction structure through narrowing the banding gap. Consequently, the resultant nanohybrid microelectrode exhibits remarkable electrochemical sensing performance towards H2O2 with a low detection limit of 50 nM, and a high sensitivity of 213 μA×mM-1×cm-2, as well as good anti-interference capability. The practical application of nanohybrid fiber microelectrode has been explored by real-time monitoring H2O2 released from live colon cells and surgically-resected fresh colon cancer tissue, which can provide important information for the identification of different types of cells as well as distinguish cancer cells from normal ones. We believe this research will pave the way towards the development of advanced carbon nanomaterials for application in the fields of electrochemistry, biosensing, and cancer diagnosis.

Abstract:We describe the preparation of nanoporous carbon nanofibers (CNFs) decorated with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) in this work by electrospining polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers and subsequent carbonization and binding of PtNPs. The fabricated nanoporous CNF-PtNP hybrids were further utilized to modify glass carbon electrodes and used for the non-enzymatic amperometric biosensor for the highly sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The morphologies of the fabricated nanoporous CNF-PtNP hybrids were observed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and their structure was further investigated with Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectrum. The cyclic voltammetry experiments indicate that CNF-PtNP modified electrodes have high electrocatalytic activity toward H2O2 and the chronoamperometry measurements illustrate that the fabricated biosensor has a high sensitivity for detecting H2O2. We anticipate that the strategies utilized in this work will not only guide the further design and fabrication of functional nanofiber-based biomaterials and nanodevices, but also extend the potential applications in energy storage, cytology, and tissue engineering.

Abstract:In situ monitoring of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) during its production process is needed. Here, an electrochemical H2O2 sensor with a wide linear current response range (concentration: 5 x 10(-8) to 5 x 10(-2) m), a low detection limit (32.4 x 10(-9) m), and a high sensitivity (568.47 mu A mm(-1) cm(-2)) is developed. The electrocatalyst of the sensor consists of cobalt nanoparticles and atomic Co-N-x moieties anchored on nitrogen doped carbon nanotube arrays (Co-N/CNT), which is obtained through the pyrolysis of the sandwich-like urea@ZIF-67 complex. More cobalt nanoparticles and atomic Co-N-x as active sites are exposed during pyrolysis, contributing to higher electrocatalytic activity. Moreover, a portable screen-printed electrode sensor is constructed and demonstrated for rapidly detecting (cost approximate to 40 s) H2O2 produced in microbial fuel cells with only 50 mu L solution. Both the synthesis strategy and sensor design can be applied to other energy and environmental fields.

Abstract:A novel preparation of dopamine-derived N-doped carbon nanotubes/Fe3O4 composites (N-CNTs/Fe3O4 Cs) is demonstrated via facile hydrothermal route and calcination treatment. In this approach, dopamine was selected as N-containing precursor, which can promote Fe3O4 nanocrystal deposition uniformly on the surface of CNTs and effectively modulated the graphitic structure with doped pyridinic N and graphitic N to improve the electrochemical performance of carbon composites. More interestingly, the inhibited growth of the Fe3O4 crystal during calcination can be effectively avoided by soaking PDA-CNT/Fe3O4 Cs in a phosphate solution before calcination. The N-CNTs/Fe3O4 Cs have an enhanced electrocatalytic activity toward hydrogen peroxide with high sensitivity (316.27 mA M−1 cm−2) and wide linear range (0.006–2.057 mM). The N-CNTs/Fe3O4 Cs modified sensor was successfully applied to real-time detection of H2O2 released from living cancer cells, displaying a potential application in the study of oxidative stress-related diseases. This work demonstrates a rational way for high-performance electrocatalytic material synthesis and bioanalysis.

Abstract:Rational design of efficient metal-free doped carbon nanotubes to construct dual-channel sensing platforms remains a challenge. In this study, B and N co-doped carbon nanotubes (BNCNTs) were designed and produced by one-step pyrolysis of P123, boric acid and urea, in which P123 could act as a structural guide to promote the generation of nanotubes. The synergistic effect of B and N doping can modulate the electronic structure of the skeleton, where B can reduce the valence band and the N could excite the conduction band. This can promote electron transport and create more active sites. As a result of the hollow tubes and the synergistic effect of B and N doping, the BNCNTs are an excellent electrocatalyst which could be candidates for electrode modification materials. In addition, the BNCNTs also exhibit excellent peroxidase activity. Therefore, BNCNTs were employed conduct an electrochemical and colorimetric dual channel sensing platform for the detection of uric acid in the range of 2–400 μM and 5–200 μM, with the detection limits of 0.078 μM and 4.52 μM, respectively. This work presents a method for the preparation of metal-free doped carbon nanotubes as multifunctional catalysts for applications in nanozymes, sensing, clinical diagnostics, and other fields.

Abstract:The rational design and construction of high-performance flexible electrochemical sensors based on hierarchical nanostructure functionalized microelectrode systems are of vital importance for sensitive in situ and real-time detection of biomolecules released from living cells. Herein, we report a novel and facile strategy to synthesize a new kind of high-performance microelectrode functionalized by dual nanozyme composed of rime-like Cu 2 (OH) 3 NO 3 wrapped ZnO nanorods assembly [Cu 2 (OH) 3 NO 3 @ZnO], and explore its practical application in electrochemical detection of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) released from living cells. Benefiting from the merits of the unique hierarchical nanohybrid structure and high catalytic activities, the resultant Cu 2 (OH) 3 NO 3 @ZnO-modified AGF microelectrode shows remarkable electrochemical sensing performance towards H 2 O 2 with a low detection limit of 1 μM and a high sensitivity of 272 μA cm −2 mM −1 , as well as good anti-interference capability, long-term stability, and reproducibility. These properties enabled the proposed microelectrode-based electrochemical platform to be applied for in situ amperometric tracking of H 2 O 2 released from different types of human colon cells, thus demonstrating its great prospect as a sensitive cancer cell detection probe for the early diagnosis and management of various cancer diseases.

A blocking set in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ is a set of points that has non-empty intersection with every hyperplane of $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$. A blocking set is called minimal if none of its proper subsets are blocking sets. In this note we prove that if $\mathrm{PG}(n_i,q)$ contains a minimal blocking set of size $k_i$ for $i\in\{1,2\}$, then $\mathrm{PG}(n_1+n_2+1,q)$ contains a minimal blocking set of size $k_1+k_2-1$. This result is proved by a result on groups with maximal irredundant covers.
Hierarchical nanostructured noble metal/metal oxide/graphene-coated carbon fiber: in situ electrochemical synthesis and use as microelectrode for real-time molecular detection of cancer cells

Abstract:We report the design and fabrication of a new type of nanohybrid microelectrode based on a hierarchical nanostructured Au/MnO2/graphene-modified carbon fiber (CF) via in situ electrochemical synthesis, which leads to better structural integration of different building blocks into the CF microelectrode. Our finding demonstrates that wrapping CF with graphene nanosheets has dramatically increased the surface area and electrical conductivity of the CF microelectrode. The subsequent template-free electrodeposition of MnO2 on graphene-wrapped CF gives rise to a porous nanonest architecture built up from twisted and intersectant MnO2 nanowires, which serves as an ideal substrate for the direct growth of Au nanoparticles. Owing to the structural merit and synergy effect between different components, the hierarchical nanostructured noble metal/metal oxide/graphene-coated CF demonstrates dramatically enhanced electrocatalytic activity. When used for nonenzymatic H2O2 sensing, the resultant modified microelectrode exhibits acceptable sensitivity, reproducibility, stability, and selectivity, which enable it to be used for real-time tracking H2O2 secretion in human cervical cancer cells. An electrochemical sensor based on FeCo bimetallic single-atom nanozyme for sensitive detection of H 2 O 2

Abstract:Efficient catalytic decomposition of H 2 O 2 is accompanied by electron transfer through Fe-N x active sites of hemin in the human body. Inspired by this reaction process, the Fe SAs/Co CNs were successfully synthesized by combined Co atomic sites with nitrogen-carbon doped Fe single-atom active sites (SAs). The synergy between transition metals not only reduces agglomeration during synthesis but also improves its own electrical conductivity due to the interaction between Fe and Co that promotes the formation of graphite surface. Crucially, the synergistic effect of the Co site significantly enhanced the peroxidase activity of the Fe SAs and the reaction rate of the Fenton-like reaction, resulting in an efficient detection of H 2 O 2 . Catalytic kinetic calculations and enzymatic kinetic calculations were used to verify the electron transfer rate and catalytic performance of their constructed electrochemical sensing interfaces. The results showed that Fe SAs/Co CNs@GCE showed better detection performance than Fe SAs CNs@GCE. It was applied successfully to detect H 2 O 2 released from cells in real-time as well. The linear detection range of Fe SAs/Co CNs@GCE for H 2 O 2 was 1–16664 μM, and the detection limit was as low as 0.25 μM. Furthermore, an electrochemical sensing chip was constructed using Fe SAs/Co CNs@SPE and the prepared microfluidic channel. The constructed portable FeSAs/Co CNs@SPE had a linear range of 1–400 μM and a detection limit of 0.36 μM and achieved the recovery detection of H 2 O 2 in serum. The electrochemical sensing interfaces constructed based on Fe SAs/Co CNs all have efficient catalytic performance and excellent real-time hydrogen peroxide detection performance, which have practical application potential for human oxidative stress level detection. And it provides a novel approach to the trace detection of bioactive small molecules.

Abstract:As one of the significant intracellular signaling molecules, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) regulates some vital biological processes. However, it remains a challenge to develop noninvasive electrodes that can be used for sensing trace H2O2 at the cellular level. Here, we evaluated a high-performance solid-state electrochemiluminescence (ECL) H2O2 sensor based on MIL-88B(Fe) nanocrystal-anchored Ti microwires. Semiconducting TiO2 nanotubes (TiNTs) vertically grown around a Ti wire via an anodization technique act as an intrinsic ECL luminophore. By integrating with MIL-88B(Fe), the synergistic effect of the TiO2 luminophore and the remarkable peroxidase-like activity of MIL-88B(Fe) enable the resulting H2O2 sensor an ultrahigh sensitivity featuring a minimum detection limit of 0.1 nM (S/N = 3), long-term stability, high durativity, and wide-range linear response to a concentration of up to 10 mM. To demonstrate the concept of a MIL-88B(Fe)@TiO2 microelectrode for single-cell sensing, the electrode was used to detect intracellular H2O2 in a single cell. Moreover, benefiting from the heterojunction of MIL-88B(Fe)/TiO2, the microelectrode was found to exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity in the visible-light range, that is, the sensor surface can be self-cleaning after a short visible-light treatment. These advanced sensor characteristics involving easy reusability reveal that the MIL-88B(Fe)@TiO2 microelectrode is a new platform for cytosensing. Abstract:Research on flexible biosensors is mainly concentrated on their application in acquiring information on physical signals including temperature, pH, and so on. However, there are hardly any studies on using flexible biosensors for assaying biomolecules and biomarkers caused diseases. Herein, a free-standing flexible sensor is designed for H 2 O 2 sensing and cancer biomarker assaying, in which reduced graphene oxide and carbon nanotubes (rGO-CNT) flexible hybrid film is first obtained through self-assembly, then MnO 2 nanoflowers and Co nanospheres are anchored on rGO-CNT by electrodeposition. rGO-CNT has good flexibility and conductivity. MnO 2 uniformly distributed on rGO-CNT has excellent catalytic performance towards H 2 O 2 . Co not only improve the conductivity, but also supply a second active material for H 2 O 2 sensing. Profiting from these advantages, MnO 2 –Co/rGO-CNT sensor shows an expanded detection range, high sensitivity, low detection limit, excellent repeatability, reproducibility, stability and selectivity. Surprisingly, it can maintain 100% of the original signal after folding 100 times, indicating deformation stability. Moreover, it can real-time monitor H 2 O 2 released by HepG2 cells. The strategy of introducing flexible substrate material and transition metals as well as transition metal compounds provides new insight into the design of flexible electrodes and greatly promote the development of real-time detection of cancer biomarkers.
