Abstract:Redox active carbonaceous materials have recently absorbed a wide range of interest in energy-related fields owing to their trade-off superiorities between carbon stability and heteroatom activity. Feasible alkali-calcination of heteroatom-rich precursors is considered as an effective route to obtain large-surface-area carbons in supercapacitors, but preset structure/heteroatomic functionalities generally suffer from a great loss of efficacy due to severe corrosion. In this work, a facile route to construct highly redox active carbons is designed based on one-step potassium bicarbonate-involved calcination of an electroactive benzoquinone/p-phenylenediamine precursor. The resulting high-yield (74.9%) carbon not only presents large specific surface area (1840 m(2) g(-1)) with regular micropore diameters predominantly at 0.55 and 0.85 nm, but also retains the high-level heteroatom activity (e.g. N: 11.46 wt%) and rod-like morphology of the synthetic precursor. When applied as a supercapacitor electrode, the representative material delivers a prominent capacitance of 365 F g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) and energy output of 18.25 W h kg(-1) in a hybrid aqueous electrolyte (H2SO4 + KBr) at 600 W kg(-1) by magnificent support of an extra redox mechanism. Additionally, on account of efficient electrolyte-ion electrosorption by optimized microporous spaces, the as-assembled EMIMBF4-based ionic liquid cell offers boosted energy density up to 89.5 W h kg(-1) under the broadened potential of 3.8 V. Such satisfactory supercapacitive performance of the carbon electrode can be fundamentally assigned to the high-level superiority retention in the preset precursor, which may inspire structure optimization for other functionalized carbons.
Improving the Pore-Ion Size Compatibility Between Poly(ionic Liquid)-Derived Carbons and High-Voltage Electrolytes for High Energy-Power Supercapacitors

Abstract:Maximizing carbon capacitance in high-voltage electrolytes has gained increasing interests to resolve the low energy storage concern in supercapacitors. Yet the large ion sizes and high viscosity of such electrolytes greatly thwart their compatibility with the pore diameters of carbon electrodes, leading to sluggish charge transport and unsatisfied energy-power outputs. Herein, heteroatom-doped, hierarchical porous carbons are derived from a high-carbon-yield main-chain poly(ionic liquid) bearing NH2+: HSO4- ion pairs and rigid aromatic backbones, followed by tailoring the 3D porous architecture through alkali ion exchange and in-situ activation. The typical sample (PIL-RbC) has sheet-like geometry, electron-rich N/O heterogeneous dopants, and a vast adsorbing surface (3021 m(2) g(-1)). More importantly, PIL-RbC with ion-matching pores (dominated at 0.80 nm) and ion-transport paths (> 1 nm pores) shows a superb compatibility with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ionic liquid electrolyte, giving a maximized electrode capacitance of 228 F g(-1) in a symmetric supercapacitor. The PIL-RbC-based device delivers a high energy density up to 119.4 Wh kg(-1) at 397 W kg(-1), and maintains 41.7 Wh kg(-1) at a high power-output of 19.7 kW kg(-1), along with a satisfactory tolerability (91% retention after 10,000 consecutive cycles at 4 V). This strategy sheds light on both synthesizing poly(ionic liquid)-derived heteroatom-doped porous carbons and matching well-designed carbon electrodes with high-potential electrolytes for integrated enhancements in supercapacitor performances.
Boron "gluing" nitrogen heteroatoms in a prepolymerized ionic liquid-based carbon scaffold for durable supercapacitive activity

Abstract:The incorporation of heterogeneous active sites into the carbon scaffold offers great potential to break the energy limitation in state-of-the-art supercapacitors, but rich heteroatomic motifs essentially thwart the scaffold firmness, leading to poor power/cycling durability under wide operational voltages/temperatures. Herein, a high-crosslinking prepolymerized ionic liquid p[ABA-co-MA][PA] network is designed to initially trap volatile heterogeneous segments during annealing, and gives the final N/B/O-doped porous carbon scaffolds (CPILs) with rich electroactive sites and pre-supposed structural superiorities. B-doped sites on the scaffold are bridged to glue/fix more electroactive N (4.21-9.05 at%) compared with the solely N-doped sample (2.87 at%), and the high binding energy of the consequent B-C bonds further consolidates the porous carbon scaffold for durable ion/electron transfer. As a result, the highly electroactive CPIL surface with 2629 m(2) g(-1) surface area and 23.13 at% electroactive N/B/O enables a large specific capacitance (359 F g(-1) @ 0.5 A g(-1)) and slight capacitance fade (19% @ 20 A g(-1)) in H2SO4 electrolyte, as well as maximized electrode capacitance up to 211 F g(-1) at 3.5 V in EMIM-BF4 owing to the strong electrosorption ability of the electrolyte ions. Moreover, the CPIL-loaded symmetric supercapacitor in TMA-BF4/EMIM-BF4 electrolyte yields a high energy output of 116 W h kg(-1) @ 400 W kg(-1) under a high potential of 4 V, durable service life (98.2% retention after 10 000 cycles) and wide temperature applicability from -3.5 to 82 degrees C. This work highlights the comprehensive improvement of multi-heteroatom doping in supercapacitive activity and durability, which provides an appealing strategy to enrich various applications.

Abstract:GerW (formerly called YtfJ) is a protein found in dormant spores of Bacillus subtilis. We have studied spore proteins in B. subtilis before, and here we report the characterization of GerW protein. Northern blot analysis revealed that gerW mRNA was transcribed by SigF-containing RNA polymerase beginning 1 h after the initiation of sporulation. Fluorescence was detected in forespores and dormant spores of B. subtilis recombinant strains expressing GerW-GFP. During germination in the presence of L-alanine or a mixture of L-asparagine, D-glucose, D-fructose and potassium ions (AGFK), normal spores of B. subtilis became darkened, stained positive with Hoechst 33342 and carboxyfluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester (CFDA-SE), and released dipicolinic acid (DPA). In the case of gerW-deficient spores, AGFK triggered germination in a manner similar to that seen in the wild-type spores, whereas spores stimulated by L-alanine remained refractive under the phase contrast microscope, failed to stain positive with Hoechst 33342 or CFDA-SE, and released almost no DPA. These results indicate that GerW is essential for the L-alanine-induced breakdown of spore dormancy followed by core rehydration and the resumption of enzymatic activity, and suggest that GerW is involved in the early stages of germination in the presence of l-alanine.
An Approach to Enhance Carbon/polymer Interface Compatibility for Lithium-Ion Supercapacitors.

Abstract:Developing high-efficiency and easy machining components, as well as high-performance energy storage components, is a pressing issue on the road to economic and social progress. Optimizing the interface compatibility between composites and promoting the efficient utilization of the electrochemical active sites are crucial factors in improving the electrochemical performance of composite electrode materials. To address this challenge, a carbon-based flexible lithium-ion supercapacitor positive material (Polyaniline @ Carbon Foam-Supercritical carbon dioxide (P@C-SC)) is synthesized using commercial melamine foam and aniline monomer. The synthesis process utilizes supercritical fluid technology, effectively solving the interface compatibility problem between the composite materials. Consequently, the electrochemical performance of the composite electrode materials is significantly improved. The supercapacitive properties of this material are investigated in 1 mol/L sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and lithium sulfate (Li2SO4) electrolytes using a three-electrode system. In H2SO4 electrolyte, the material exhibits a working voltage of up to 2.2 V and a specific capacitance of 898F/g (at 1 A/g), resulting in a maximum energy density of 50.8 Wh kg-1. Furthermore, this electrode demonstrates superior lithium storage performance, with a specific capacity of approximately 900 mAh/g (at 1 A/g) and a retention of about 400 mAh/ g after 200 cycles, along with a coulomb efficiency of 100%. This work offers insights into the integrated design of composite materials with improved electrochemical properties and interface compatibility, thus providing potential applicability of supercritical fluids in the field of lithium-ion supercapacitors.
Nanocarbon of Moderate Microporosity Doped with Oxygenate Redox Pairs to Achieve Superior Gravimetic/volumetric Supercapacitor Performances

Abstract:In the selection of carbon-based electrode materials for supercapacitive energy storage, it is hard to get one that is high in both gravimetric and volumetric performance because there is a trade-off between them. In the pre-sented work, microporous carbon materials denoted herein as MICx were synthesized through catechol poly-merization in the presence of molten FeCl3. As complexing agent, the iron species coordinate with catechol oligomers, functioning as template as well as catalyst in the synthesis of the microporous carbon. The in situ formation of micropores and carbonaceous skeleton is induced by the carbonyl/hydroxyl redox pairs upon catalytic graphitization during carbonization. The derived nanocarbons have high microporosity (70.6 %-79.2 %) and rich oxygenate functionalities (carbonyl: 3.3-4.0 atom% and hydroxyl: 2.5-4.2 atom%). The FeCx ma-terials are high in faradaic activity. For example, the FeC873-based electrode displays excellent supercapacitor performances: capacitance of 440F/g@1.0 A/g (equivalent to 537F/cm3@1.0 A/g) and 289F/g@20 A/g (equivalent to 353F/cm3@20 A/g), large energy density of 25.5 Wh/kg@900 W/kg (equivalent to 31.1 Wh/ L@1098 W/L), and good cycling stability (ca.100 % capacitance retention after 20 000 continual charge/ discharge cycles).
CoSx/C Hierarchical Hollow Nanocages from a Metal–organic Framework As a Positive Electrode with Enhancing Performance for Aqueous Supercapacitors

Abstract:Benefiting from abundant redox chemistry and high electrochemical properties, metal sulfides have been broadly employed as electrode materials in supercapacitor systems. However, the predominant limitation in their performance, which arises from indifferent electron and ion dynamics for transportation and a rapid slash in capacitance, is of particular concern. Herein, we portray the cobalt sulfides/carbon (CoSx/C) hierarchical hollow nanocages using ZIF-67 nanocrystals coated with carbon from resorcinol–formaldehyde (ZIF-67@RF) as a self-sacrificial template. The RF acted as a hard framework to prevent the hollow structure from breaking and was transformed to a carbon layer to enhance the charge transfer process. When used as positive electrodes in supercapacitor systems with aqueous electrolytes, the optimized CoSx/C hierarchic hollow nanocages exhibited a considerable specific capacitance (618 F g−1 at 2 A g−1), superior rate performance (83.6% capacitance retention of the initial capacity when the current density was amplified from 2 A g−1 to 50 A g−1) and an extraordinary cycle stationarity along with an undiminished specific capacitance after 10 000 cycles. In this study, the meticulously designed hierarchical hollow structure that we conceived not only provides an outstanding electrochemical performance but also provides options for other related materials, such as various MOFs.

Abstract:The development of next-generation supercapacitors requires efficient integration of conductive and charge storage framework with safer and sustainable production methods. Herein, a simple one-pot synthesis was used to synthesize Iron based metal-organic framework and carbon composite () electrode. The fabricated electrode delivered a high-power storage capacity due to low interfacial resistance between the working electrode and electrolyte. The activated carbon (AC) was obtained from recycled polystyrene, with the aim of reducing plastic pollution and to foster cleaner, sustainable environment. Plastic with insulating property was transformed to highly conductive graphitized carbon, which act as electron reservoirs for pristine Fe-MOF electrodes. Importantly, we show that the increased carbon content up to saturation limit, enables redox to pseudocapacitive behavior with satisfactory capacitive and cyclic stability despite a minimal drop in internal resistance. The MOF electrode composited with 70 mg of AC, retained ∼82% of its initial capacity (628.5 F g −1 ) after 10000 cycles. Both surface-controlled and diffusion-controlled charge transfer mechanism contribute to the charge storage, with diffusion-controlled being more prevalent in The calculated energy and power density were 16.24 Wh kg −1 and 897.5 W kg −1 , respectively for the fabricated /carbon cloth electrode.

Abstract:Supercapacitors represent an important energy storage system for high power applications with carbon electrodes acting as the key component. Design and synthesis of advanced carbon materials with supercapacitive activity (capacitance and rate capability) and stability have been the focus of supercapacitor developments. This study reports a high‐performance carbon electrode by in situ doping boron atoms into nanoporous carbon particles, which is achieved by a continuous spraying assisted coassembly process. Boron doping leads to extra oxygen graft into carbon surface, enabling both enhanced wettability and durability for the fabricated carbon electrodes. Density functional theory calculations further suggest that boron doping enhances electrolyte ion penetration and interactions with carbon surface, leading to the improved capacitances and rate capability. The constructed symmetric aqueous supercapacitor exhibits all‐round performance improvements including high energy density (9.1 Wh kg−1) and power density (24.1 kW kg−1) as well as ultralong cycling life (100 000 cycles). This work for the first time provides insights into the role of boron doping in enhancing both supercapacitive activity and stability of carbon materials for high‐performance supercapacitors. Boron‐doped nanoporous carbon spheres are synthesized by a continuous spraying process under principle of hydrogen bond induced coassembly, which enables the in situ incorporation of boron atom into a carbon framework with extra oxygen graft. Boron dopants enhance both wettability and durability of the carbon electrode, leading to greatly upgrated supercapacitive performance. Computational investigations reveal the effects of boron doping.

Porous NiCo2O4–FeCo2O4 Nanowire Arrays As Advanced Electrodes for High-Performance Flexible Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:Efficient supercapacitors have attracted wide attention by the exploration of hybrid materials integrating the merits of individual components as promising electrode materials. However, the construction of advanced hybrid structures for highly enhanced electrochemical energy storage is still challenging. Herein, integration of a strong compositional synergy between various bimetallic oxides, MCo2O4 (M = Ni, Fe, and so on), and inducing rich defects for more redox sites are proposed. A novel NiCo2O4-FeCo2O4 hybrid array of nanowires with a large number of nanopores and crystal interfaces is synthesized via hydrothermal reactions and fast calcination. The performance of the NiCo2O4-FeCo2O4/carbon cloth electrode is good and is far beyond that of single-component MCo2O4 electrodes, which exhibits a specific capacity of 490 F/g at 4.0 A/g. The integration of bimetallic redox centers reconstructing the electronic coordination and the nanopores providing highly exposed active surfaces and active sites for highly efficient electrolyte ion diffusion contribute to the enhanced performance. An asymmetric solid-state supercapacitor composed of NiCo2O4-FeCo2O4 and graphene (both using carbon cloth as substrates) as the anode and cathode electrodes, respectively, exhibits a high energy density of 88.9 Wh/cm(2) (at a power density of 800 mW/cm(2)). In particular, the flexible asymmetric device exhibits excellent deformation-tolerant electrochemical stability with nearly overlapping cyclic voltammetry curves at varying bending angles. This work proposes additional methodologies to the fabrication of excellent-performance flexible all-solid-state devices for wearable devices.

Abstract:There is much evidence (1-4) suggesting that a high concentration of serum cholesterol is an important factor in the etiology of atherosclerosis. It remains to be demonstrated, however, that therapeutic reduction in the serum level of this lipid will decrease the rate of formation, or cause dissolution of atheromata h man. In order to carry out such investigations, procedures for sustained depression of high cholesterol levels by tolerable means must be available. Nicotinic acid administered in large doses has been found to be an effective method in both clinical (5-8) and animal (9) studies. One of the drawbacks to using this form of therapy, however, has been the occurrence of uncomfortable side effects. Flushing, pruritus, and gastric irritation have been troublesome, especially early in the course of treatment. For this reason, attempts have been made to modify the drug in such a way as to eliminate its side effects while retaining its cholesterol-lowering potency. The purpose of this report is to present the results of a clinical investigation of one such drug modification, aluminum nicotinatel.
Great Enhancement of Carbon Energy Storage through Narrow Pores and Hydrogen-Containing Functional Groups for Aqueous Zn-Ion Hybrid Supercapacitor

Abstract:The proton transfer mechanism on the carbon cathode surface has been considered as an effective way to boost the electrochemical performance of Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitors (SCs) with both ionic liquid and organic electrolytes. However, cheaper, potentially safer, and more environmental friendly supercapacitor can be achieved by using aqueous electrolyte. Herein, we introduce the proton transfer mechanism into a Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitor with the ZnSO4 aqueous electrolyte and functionalized activated carbon cathode materials (FACs). We reveal both experimentally and theoretically an enhanced performance by controlling the micropores structure and hydrogen-containing functional groups (–OH and –NH functions) of the activated carbon materials. The Zn-ion SCs with FACs exhibit a high capacitance of 435 F g−1 and good stability with 89% capacity retention over 10,000 cycles. Moreover, the proton transfer effect can be further enhanced by introducing extra hydrogen ions in the electrolyte with low pH value. The highest capacitance of 544 F g−1 is obtained at pH = 3. The proton transfer process tends to take place preferentially on the hydroxyl-groups based on the density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The results would help to develop carbon materials for cheaper and safer Zn-ion hybrid SCs with higher energy.

Bi-Fe Chalcogenides Anchored Carbon Matrix and Structured Core–shell Bi-Fe-P@Ni-P Nanoarchitectures with Appealing Performances for Supercapacitors

Abstract:Pseudocapacitive materials based on multi-active components are attractive platforms for future portable energy devices due to their excellent redox processes and low cost. In this study, nanostructured bismuth-iron chalcogenide anchored on multiwalled carbon nanotube framework (Bi-Fe chalcogenide/ C)-based electrode materials were fabricated via a simple solvothermal protocol with enhanced electrochemical performances. The obtained Bi-Fe chalcogenide/C nanocomposites combining the improved electroconductivity of carbonic frameworks and high pseudocapacitive properties of Bi/Fe reversible redox processes were employed as negative electrodes for asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) devices. Systematic investigation of the synthesized materials and capacitive performance indicated that the Bi-Fe-P/C electrode simultaneously achieved an intrinsically appreciable specific capacitance of 532 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1), high-rate capability, and cyclic stability, profiting from the structural and amorphous merits as well as the collaborative effect of multiple components. Besides, we employed an effective strategy to graft Bi-Fe-P film on a self-standing nickel phosphide (Ni-P) to manufacture a cathode with superior capacitive performances. The as-prepared core-shell Bi-Fe-P@Ni-P was used as a high-performance positive electrode and displayed a large specific capacitance of 230.6 mAh g(-1) at 1 A g(-1). Additionally, we also assembled an ASC system using the core-shell Bi-Fe-P@Ni-P as a positive electrode and amorphous Bi-Fe-P/C as a negative electrode with an expanded operational potential of 1.6 V. The hybrid device delivered a high specific energy density of 81.5 Wh kg(-1) at a power density of 890.2Wkg(-1) together with good cyclic characteristics (85.6% capacitance retention after 8000 consecutive cycles). The obtained findings offer new insights into the design of advanced energy storage materials at relatively low costs and underscore the proficiency of heterostructured multicomponent electrodes as a practical option for enhancing the electrochemical performance of ASC. Synthesis of hierarchically porous boron-doped carbon material with enhanced surface hydrophobicity and porosity for improved supercapacitor performance

Abstract:Heteroatoms doped nano-porous carbon materials possess well-designed porosity and also exhibit extremely advantages over high-performance electrodes for supercapacitors (SCs). Herein, we fabricate hierarchically porous boron-doped carbon material (B-HPC) with high specific surface area by a facile synthesis strategy using boric acid as B doping agent, NaCl as retrievable template and ZnCl2 as activation agent. The B doping significantly enhance surface hydrophilicity/wettability and improve capacitance thereby via efficient electrolyte ion penetration and interactions with the surface of carbon electrode. As a result, B-HPC exhibits high specific capacitance (379.9 F/g at 1 A/g) and excellent cycling performance (96.3% capacitance retention over 10 000 cycles). Furthermore, the symmetric supercapacitor based on B-HPC can reach up to a high voltage window (1.8 V) and achieve excellent energy density of 25.9 Wh/kg at 447.2 W/kg using 1 M Na2SO4 as electrolyte. Interface Polarization Matters: Enhancing Supercapacitor Performance of Spinel NiCo2O4 Nanowires by Reduced Graphene Oxide Coating

Abstract:Supercapacitors show ultrafast charging-discharging rates but extremely high powers that can address emerging energy needs, in particular for the high specific power and portable energy conversion/storage devices. Herein, we report a novel hybrid electrode material based on complementary components of NiCo2O4 nanowires and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for high performance supercapacitor application by combining capacitive and faradaic materials and storage mechanisms. The unique heterostructured rGO/NiCo2O4 nanostructures exhibit high specific capacitance (up to 4.37 F cm(-2) (1248 F g(-1)), measured at the current density of 2 mA cm(-2) with loading of active materials 3.5 mg cm(-2)) and excellent cycling stability with capacitance retention of 90% after 2000 charge-discharge cycles as well as high rate capability. Due to the difference of work function, the interfacial polarization not only allow the effective adsorption/desorption of the electrolyte ions at the surface of rGO to improve electrochemical double-layer capacitance (EDLC), but also provide both electrolyte ions storage site and transport pathway to facilitate the Faradaic redox reactions near the surface of NiCo2O4. The encouraging results show that such hybrid nanostructure combining capacitive and faradaic materials and storage mechanisms have great potential in developing high performance electrochemical supercapacitors. Hierarchical Cobalt Hydroxide and B/N Co-Doped Graphene Nanohybrids Derived from Metal-Organic Frameworks for High Energy Density Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Abstract:To cater for the demands of electrochemical energy storage system, the development of cost effective, durable and highly efficient electrode materials is desired. Here, a novel electrode material based on redox active β-Co(OH) 2 and B, N co-doped graphene nanohybrid is presented for electrochemical supercapacitor by employing a facile metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) route through pyrolysis and hydrothermal treatment. The Co(OH) 2 could be firmly stabilized by dual protection of N-doped carbon polyhedron (CP) and B/N co-doped graphene (BCN) nanosheets. Interestingly, the porous carbon and BCN nanosheets greatly improve the charge storage, wettability, and redox activity of electrodes. Thus the hybrid delivers specific capacitance of 1263 F g −1 at a current density of 1A g −1 with 90% capacitance retention over 5000 cycles. Furthermore, the new aqueous asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) was also designed by using Co(OH) 2 @CP@BCN nanohybrid and BCN nanosheets as positive and negative electrodes respectively, which leads to high energy density of 20.25 Whkg −1 . This device also exhibits excellent rate capability with energy density of 15.55 Whkg −1 at power density of 9331 Wkg −1 coupled long termed stability up to 6000 cycles.

Abstract:Carbon materials together with various redox electrolytes have been developed intensively in recent years to assemble large-capacitance and high-rate supercapacitors. However, the weak interactions between carbon electrodes and redox electrolytes result in the severe shuttle of redox ions in electrolytes, causing critical self-discharge performance. Here we report a functional interface to establish strong adhesion of redox ions on the liquid side towards carbon nanotube arrays, leading to efficient confinement of redox ions around carbon electrode and enhanced electronic transfer between the electrode and redox electrolyte. Benefiting from the interface, the coupling carbon nanotube arrays-K3Fe(CN)6 system exhibits a substantially boosted self-discharge rate with no decay after 32 h under the open-circuit stage, as well as a large areal capacitance up to 3.048 F cm−2. The introduction of functionalized interface suggests a general and versatile concept for carbon-based electrodes to achieve battery-like charge storage with reliable features.

Abstract:Carbon materials have been commonly studied as electrode materials in supercapacitor owing to their high stability and conductivity, controllable morphology, and wide range of sources. However, electrode materials made of carbon have a relatively low theoretical capacity. The electrochemical behavior of supercapacitors can be enhanced by enlarging the specific surface area, optimizing pore size distribution and internal pore structure of electrode materials, and doping heteroatoms. Herein, we develop a simple method for synthesizing O, N co-doped hierarchical porous carbon only through one-step carbonization. Through the synergistic effect of urea and KHCO 3 , the acquired hierarchical porous carbon has a highly interconnected porous structure, high specific surface area (2408 m 2 g −1 ), and rich surface O and N functional groups. Therefore, the obtained porous carbon delivers a high specific capacitance (359 F g −1 @ 1 A g −1 ), superior rate performance (265 F g −1 @ 50 A g −1 ) and long-term electrochemical stability in 6 M KOH electrolyte. In addition, the assembled two-electrode system shows a high energy density of 9.0 Wh kg −1 . Furthermore, the assembled zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitor also exhibits superior reversible capacity (185 mA h g −1 @ 0.2 A g −1 ) and satisfactory long-time cyclability. The outstanding electrochemical performance indicates that O, N co-doped hierarchical porous carbon materials have broad application prospects in high-performance energy devices.

Abstract:N-Doped carbon-incorporated Ni2P/Ni was reasonably designed and synthesized from nickel-based metal organic framework (Ni-MOF) precursors via a novel simultaneous carbonization and phosphatization process. Interestingly, subtle phosphating significantly improves the energy storage performance of supercapacitors (SCs). Ni2P/Ni/C composites exhibit a good energy storage performance with a specific capacitance of 257.2 C g(-1) at 1 A g(-1). The corresponding hybrid supercapacitor achieves an energy density of 25.4 W h kg(-1) at a power density of 750 W kg(-1), ultrahigh electrochemical cyclic stability (98.2% retention after 4000 cycles) and nearly 100% coulombic efficiency with a Ni2P/Ni/C-100 positive electrode and a porous carbon negative electrode, respectively. These can be attributed to the synergetic effects of N-doped carbon and metal phosphates, which ensure good electrical conductivity and provide rich reactive sites as well as stable architecture. These results indicate that the controlled pyrolysis of MOFs is an effective method to design a kind of high-performance electrode material for hybrid supercapacitors.

Abstract:Abstract: An effective technique for improving electrochemical efficiency is to rationally design hierarchical nanostructures that completely optimize the advantages of single components and establish an interfacial effect between structures. In this study, core-shell NiMoO4@Ni9S8/MoS2 hetero-structured nanorods are prepared via a facile hydrothermal process followed by a direct sulfurization. The resulting hierarchical architecture with outer Ni9S8/MoS2 nanoflakes shell on the inner NiMoO4 core offers plentiful active sites and ample charge transfer pathways in continuous heterointerfaces. Ascribing to the porous core-shell configuration and synergistic effect of bimetal sulfides, the obtained NiMoO4@Ni9S8/MoS2 as electrode material presents an unsurpassed specific capacity of 373.4 F g-1 at 10 A g-1 and remarkable cycling performance in the 6 M KOH electrolyte. This work delivers a rational method for designing highly efficient electrodes for supercapacitors, enlightening the road of exploring low-cost materials in the energy storage domain.
