Abstract:Between 1994 and 1998, we have treated eleven patients with intraarticular fractures of the base of the middle phalanx including impaction, dislocation, and pilon types of injuries. All patients were evaluated after a median follow-up period of 25.8 (8 to 57) months. Treatment was carried out according to Suzuki's technique with a dynamic PIP-joint distraction fixator consisting of Kirschner wires and rubber bands. In five cases, there was additional osteosynthesis (Kirschner wires, resorbable hemicerclage) or cancellous bone-grafting for reconstruction of the joint surface. Early mobilisation commenced with active exercises for the PIP joint on the day of surgery. The dynamic extension fixator was applied for an average duration of 28 (15 to 42) days. By the time of follow-up examinations, we found a range of motion on an average of 64 (0 to 105) degrees including a lack of extension of 11 (0 to 60) degrees and a median flexion capacity of 75 (30 to105) degrees. All fractures healed uneventfully with restored joint stability. Eight patients were completely painfree, three complained of mild occupational pain.

Abstract:Nickel-zinc (Ni-Zn) batteries have received extensive attention in the field of energy storage. However, the unsatisfactory durability greatly impedes their wider commercial application. Herein, a novel and efficient zinc induced phase reconstruction method was reported to boost the electrochemical stability of cobalt-nickel double hydroxide (CoNi-DH) cathode materials for developing high-stability and high-rate Ni-Zn batteries. The inherent mechanism for this phase reconstruction method to achieve the improvement of electrochemical stability was systematically investigated and clarified in this work by combining theoretical calculations and experimental tests. The research results confirmed that the zinc-induced phase reconstruction can produce a new phase of Zn2Co3(OH)(10)center dot 2H(2)O in the mixed-phase of CoNi-DH without sacrificing its hierarchical micro-nano structure. This Zn2Co3(OH)(10)center dot & nbsp;2H(2)O phase has a much smaller shrinkage of the lattice spacing of host layers during the redox reaction relative to the pure Co(OH)(2) phase, thereby it can inhibit structural damage during the charge-discharge cycle. In addition, the retained hierarchical micro-nano structure can ensure good capacity output. Therefore, the as-fabricated mixed hydroxide electrode and Ni-Zn battery achieve remarkable improvement in the cycling life and exhibit superior rate performance. Moreover, the resultant mixed hydroxide electrode displays good application in the flexible quasi-solid-state Ni-Zn battery.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) have received a lot of attention in electrochemical energy storage systems for their low cost, environmental compatibility, and good safety. However, cathode materials still face poor material stability and conductivity, which cause poor reversibility and poor rate performance in AZIBs. Herein, a heterogeneous structure combined with cation pre-intercalation strategies was used to prepare a novel CaV6O16·3H2O@Ni0.24V2O5·nH2O material (CaNiVO) for high-performance Zn storage. Excellent energy storage performance was achieved via the wide interlayer conductive network originating from the interlayer-embedded metal ions and heterointerfaces of the two-phase CaNiVO. Furthermore, this unique structure further showed excellent structural stability and led to fast electron/ion transport dynamics. Benefiting from the heterogeneous structure and cation pre-intercalation strategies, the CaNiVO electrodes showed an impressive specific capacity of 334.7 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 and a rate performance of 110.3 mAh g-1 at 2 A g-1. Therefore, this paper provides a feasible strategy for designing and optimizing cathode materials with superior Zn ion storage performance.

Abstract:The development of cathodes is critical for achieving high-performance aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs). To date, it remains a great challenge to find cathode materials with high operating potential, excellent electrochemical activity, and good structural stability. Layered transition metal compounds have received extensive attention for widespread applications in energy storage and conversion owing to their two-dimensional ion diffusion channels, superior mechanical flexibility, and highly adjustable layered structure. However, a critical bottleneck that hinders their application in aqueous ZIBs is the sluggish reaction kinetics due to the slow desolvation process at the cathode/electrolyte interface and the strong electrostatic interaction between the anion sublattice of host materials and divalent Zn2+. In this review, we comprehensively scrutinize the latest progresses and encountered challenges in the development of layered transition metal compounds as cathodes for aqueous ZIBs. Some dichalcogenides, carbides and nitrides, phosphates, and vanadates are also introduced, and their energy storage mechanisms are clarified. Much efforts and progress regarding the interlayer, defect and composite engineering to achieve high electrical conductivity, fast ion diffusion kinetics and stable structure of layered transition metal compounds are summarized.
Organic-inorganic Hybrid Cathode Enabled by In-Situ Interface Polymerization Engineering Boosts Zn2+ Desolvation in Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (RAZIBs) have attracted considerable attention for application in large-scale energy storage systems. However, the progress of RAZIBs has been hindered by the sluggish reaction kinetics and poor structural stability, which are closely associated with the desolvation process of hydrated Zn2+. To overcome these issues, an in situ interfacial polymerization strategy is proposed to uniformly germinate a polyaniline (PANI) layer on α-MnO2 and form an organic–inorganic hybrid cathode (MnO2@PANI). Theoretical calculations and experimental characterizations disclose that the polyaniline layer equipped with hydrophilic functional groups can effectively trap the active water molecules to break the strong attraction between H2O and Zn2+, thereby facilitating the desolvation process of hydrated Zn2+, and regulating the Zn2+ diffusion kinetics and electrode reaction kinetics on the cathode/electrolyte surface. Meanwhile, the irreversible phase evolution and dissolution of active species are largely suppressed due to the PANI shell protecting the α-MnO2 from the attack of active water molecules. As a consequence, the organic–inorganic hybrid cathode exhibits 401.9 mAh/g after 200 cycles at a current density of 0.5 A/g and long-term durability over 1000 cycles at a current density of 2.0 A/g without irreversible phase transformation. This work proposed an insight to regulate the desolvation process for high performance aqueous energy storage systems.

Transition metal double hydroxides are usually elusive as a stable cathode for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their unstable crystal structure, sluggish ion transportation, and insufficient active sites for zinc-ion storage. Here, a trinary layered double hydroxide (LDH) with hydrogen vacancies (Ni3 Mn0.7 Fe0.3 -LDH) is reported as a new cathode material for AZIBs. A reversible high capacity up to 328 mAh g-1 can be obtained and cycle stably over 500 cycles with a capacity retention of 85%. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that the hydrogen vacancies in LDH can expose lattice oxygen atoms as active sites for zinc-ion storage and accelerate ion diffusion by reducing the electrostatic interactions between zinc ions and the host structure. In addition, the synergy of the trinary transitional metal cations can suppress the Jahn-Teller distortion of manganese (III) oxide octahedron and enable long cycle stability. This work provides not only a series of high-performance cathode materials for AZIBs but also a novel materials design strategy that can be extended to other multi-valence metal-ion batteries.

Abstract:Developing high mass loading cathodes with high capacity and durable life cycles is greatly worthwhile and challenging for alkaline aqueous rechargeable Zn-based batteries (AAZBs). Herein, we demonstrate an efficient zinc-induced strategy to rationally develop Zn-Ni-Co carbonate hydroxides/hydroxides heterostructure nanosheet array with an extremely high mass loading of 9.2 mg cm −2 on Ni foam (ZNC/NF) as such a superior cathode for AAZBs. It is discovered that Ni-Co hydroxide nanowires can be transformed into Zn-Ni-Co carbonate hydroxides/hydroxides heterostructure nanosheet with rich defect structures after the introduction of Zn during the synthetic process. The formed heterostructures and rich defect structures can enhance ion and electron transfer efficiency, thus ensuring the excellent electrochemical performance under high loading condition. Consequently, the ZNC/NF//Zn battery shows an outstanding areal capacity of 2.1 mAh cm −2 at 5 mA cm −2 , with an ultrahigh energy density of 3.6 mWh cm −2 . Moreover, the battery can still retain a high capacity of 0.42 mAh cm −2 after 5000 cycles at 50 mA cm −2 , suggesting strong long-term cycling stability. This research enables pave the way for the rational design and manufacture of advanced electrode materials with large mass loadings.

Abstract:Abstract Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) can be one of the most promising electrochemical energy storage devices for being non-flammable, low-cost, and sustainable. However, the challenges of AZIBs, including dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution, corrosion, and passivation of zinc anode during charging and discharging processes, must be overcome to achieve high cycling performance and stability in practical applications. In this work, we utilize a dual-functional organic additive cyclohexanedodecol (CHD) to firstly establish [Zn(H 2 O) 5 (CHD)] 2+ complex ion in an aqueous Zn electrolyte and secondly build a robust protection layer on the Zn surface to overcome these dilemmas. Systematic experiments and theoretical calculations are carried out to interpret the working mechanism of CHD. At a very low concentration of 0.1 mg mL −1 CHD, long-term reversible Zn plating/stripping could be achieved up to 2200 h at 2 mA cm −2 , 1000 h at 5 mA cm −2 , and 650 h at 10 mA cm −2 at the fixed capacity of 1 mAh cm −2 . When matched with V 2 O 5 cathode, the resultant AZIBs full cell with the CHD-modified electrolyte presents a high capacity of 175 mAh g −1 with the capacity retention of 92% after 2000 cycles under 2 A g −1 . Such a performance could enable the commercialization of AZIBs for applications in grid energy storage and industrial energy storage.

“Two Birds with One Stone”: F Doping Ni–Co Hydroxide as High-Performance Cathode Material for Aqueous Zn Batteries

Abstract:Cathode materials have impeded the development of aqueous Zn batteries (AZBs) for a long time due to their low capacity and poor cycling stability. Here, a “two birds with one stone” strategy is devised to optimize the Ni–Co hydroxide cathode material (NCH) for AZBs, which plays an essential role in both composition adjustment and morphology majorization. The F-doped Ni–Co hydroxide (FNCH) exhibits a unique nanoarray structure consisting of the 2D flake-like unit, furnishing abundant active sites for the redox reaction. A series of analyses prove that FNCH delivers improved electrical conductivity and enhanced electrochemical activity. Contributing to the unique morphology and adjusted characteristics, FNCH presents a higher discharge-specific capacity, more advantageous rate capability and competitive cycling stability than NCH. As a result, an aqueous Zn battery assembled with a FNCH cathode and Zn anode exhibits a high capacity of 0.23 mAh cm−2 at 1 mA cm−2, and retains 0.10 mAh cm−2 at 10 mA cm−2. More importantly, the FNCH–Zn battery demonstrates no capacity decay after 3000 cycles with a conspicuous capacity of 0.15 mAh cm−2 at 8 mA cm−2, indicating a superior cycling performance. This work provides a facile approach to develop high-performance cathodes for aqueous Zn batteries.

Abstract:Heterostructure construction, especially for anodes, is an effective strategy to promote electron transfer and improve surface reaction dynamics, thus achieving high performance in lithium-ion batteries. Herein, in situ partial conversion of metal sulfide to oxide with high lattice match is utilized to engineer a ZnO/ZnS heterostructure. The mosaic ZnO/ZnS heterostructure with abundant interfaces is activated into homogeneous zinc oxysulfide with size optimization during cycling, which delivers 920 mA h g(-1) after 1300 cycles even at 2 A g(-1). A pouch-type full cell (LiCoO2||ZnO/ZnS) is assembled and maintains over 85% of its initial capacity after 300 cycles at 2C, confirming its potential practicability. Theoretical calculations predict that, combined with LiZn nanodots, the Li2O/Li2S matrix is endowed with more Li anchoring sites and higher Li adsorption energy. Therefore, the interfacial charge redistribution is modified to contribute high interfacial Li storage. The reasonable interfacial engineering by designing a mosaic heterostructure breaks new grounds for the design of large-capacity and high-reversibility conversion-alloying-type anodes.

Abstract:The development of advanced Ni/Co-based cathode electrodes for aqueous alkaline Zn batteries (AZBs) is highly desirable, but still remains a challenging task. Herein, we rationally design and synthesize the unique MoSe2 decorated Ni/Co selenide complex hollow arrayed structures (CH-MNCS) with dense heterointerfaces supported on nickel foam (NF) through a metal–organic framework-engaged strategy, in which heterostructured CoSe/MoSe2 hollow nanocages are uniformly assembled on heterostructured NiSex/MoSe2 nanotubes. Benefiting from the apparent morphological, structural and compositional advantages, aqueous AZBs based on the NF/CH-MNCS binder-free cathode exhibit high areal capacity and energy density of 1.42 mAh cm−2 and 2.45 mWh cm−2 at a current density of 2 mA cm−2, respectively, as well as decent rate capability and long cycling stability. Furthermore, density functional theoretical calculations further confirm the presence of heterointerfaces can not only enhance the electrical conductivity but also facilitate the adsorption of OH− ions in the electrolyte. More importantly, the quasi-solid-state NF/CH-MNCS//Zn batteries are also assembled to demonstrate the potential for practical applications. This work may provide a new perspective to construct heterostructured transition metal selenide complex hollow structures on conductive substrate for aqueous AZBs and other energy storage devices.

Abstract:In the past decade, layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have attracted great attention in the field of energy storage owing to their excellent two-dimensional (2D) hydrotalcite-like structure, highly reversible redox kinetics, and adjustable composition. At the same time, nanomaterials constructed by ultrathin nanosheets have enhanced conductivity, rich electrochemical active sites and fast charge transfer channels, showing better electrochemical properties. Herein, we designed three-dimensional (3D) NiFeCo LDH vertical nanosheet arrays (denoted NiFeCo-LDH NA) assembled by the tight interconnection of 2D nanosheets using a Ni-coordinated zeolitic imidazolate framework (Ni-ZIF-L) as a sacrificial template via facile ion exchange and etching reaction processes under hydrothermal conditions. The appropriate doping ratio of iron and cobalt ions is regulated. Electrochemical tests show that the NiFeCo LDH NA-based electrode shows a high specific capacity of 1495C g-1 at 1 A g-1 and has great cycling stability (89% capacitance retention over 10,000 cycles). The assembled hybrid supercapacitor (NiFeCo LDH NA//AC) achieves a fine energy density of 34.4 W h kg-1 at a power density of 935.5 W kg-1 with good cycling stability of over a 96% retention rate (compared with the initial capacitance) and outstanding coulombic efficiency (nearly 99%) after 15,000 cycles. The constructed aqueous Zn-Ni battery (NiFeCo LDH NA//Zn) exhibits a remarkable specific capacity of 272 mA h g-1 at 3 A g-1 with a high energy density of 464.7 W h kg-1 and retains 81% of the initial specific capacity after 2000 cycles at 20 A g-1. This work not only proves that ternary LDHs can be used as good energy storage materials but also provides a new way to prepare nanomaterials with specific morphology.
Achieving stable Zn metal anode via a simple NiCo layered double hydroxides artificial coating for high performance aqueous Zn-ion batteries

Abstract:Aqueous Zn-ion batteries have become one of the most promising candidates for next-generation energy storage devices due to low price, nontoxicity, safety, and high theoretical capacity. However, the issues of Zn dendrite, H2 evolution, and corrosion severely hinder their future development. Here, a simple NiCo layered double hydroxides (NiCo-LDH) artificial coating is constructed on Zn anode (denoted as NCLZn) by spin-coating method. The prepared NiCo-LDH coating with abundant metal sites not only can increase the active sites to guide the uniform deposition of Zn2+, but also can suppress the side reactions as a physical barrier. Meantime, the NiCo-LDH coating also improves the wettability of electrolyte and reduces the interface resistance. Consequently, compared with bare Zn, the symmetric cells with NCLZn anode exhibit a stable overpotential (<20 mV) and long-time lifespan (2500 h) with remarkable coulombic efficiency (greater than99.0%) at 1 mA cm−2 and 1 mAh cm−2. A stable plating/stripping still can be achieved for more than 1580 h, even at 10 mA cm−2. Simultaneously, the NCLZn/MnO2 cells present impressive specific capacity of 153 mAh g−1 at 1 A g−1 after 1600 cycles. Therefore, this simple and low-cost method provides a positive strategy for the industrialization of aqueous Zn-ion batteries.

Abstract:Aqueous rechargeable multiple metal-ion storage battery (ARSB) has a large potential in energy storage devices due to their safe usage, low cost and high rate capability. Nevertheless, the performance of practical ARSB is largely restricted by low capacity and limited cathode materials. Herein, we demonstrate an efficient cathode material based on CoNi-layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets arrays with abundant hydrogen vacancy induced by electrochemical activation process for high performance of cations storage. Consequently, the electrochemical activated CoNi-LDH (ECA-CoNi-LDH) nanosheets arrays exhibit high metal ion (Li+, Na+, Zn2+, Mg2+ and Ca2+) storage capacities, which is 9 times and 3 times higher that of unactivated CoNi-LDH arrays and ECA-CoNi-LDH without hierarchical structure, respectively. Moreover, the ECA-CoFe-LDH also shows the possibility for practical applications in actual batteries. By coupling with a Fe2O3/C anode, the assembled aqueous battery delivered a large energy density of 184.4 Wh kg−1 at power density of 4 Wh kg−1 in high voltage range of 0–2 V. To our best knowledge, such high energy density and large working window of our assembled aqueous battery is exceeded other LDH-based aqueous battery or supercapacitor, and the energy density almost comparable than that of commercial Li-ion batteries. Moreover, almost no measurable capacitance losses can be detected even after 10000 cycles. In addition, this work also provides a strategy to develop a high energy density cathode for multiple metal-ion storage batteries.

Abstract:Aqueous Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs) have received widespread attention for their advantages of environmental friendliness and high-safety, yet the development of high-performance AZIBs faces some critical issues, including exploring high-performance cathode materials with high electrical con-ductivity, high capacity, and stable crystal structures that may greatly affect the cycling stability and rate performance. Herein, we report a superlattice Zn3V2O7-C, which shows promising proper-ties with high capacity and long-term stability as a conversion-type cathode material of AZIBs. The Zn||Zn3V2O7-C half-cells deliver a capacity of -,210 mAh/g over 10, 000 charging/discharging cycles. A comprehensive investigation elucidates that the superlattice Zn3V2O7-C can provide more reactive sites, more stable structure, and more enhanced electrical conductivity for Zn2+ storage, thus benefiting the promotion of Zn2+ electrochemical and diffusion kinetics. The favorable characteristics of the designed cathode will pave an avenue for the development of promising electrodes for practical AZIBs.

Abstract:Local coordination engineering via F doping can effectively modulate both surface and bulk structure of α‐MnO2 for aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. The surface F coordinations promote the desolvation rate of hydrated zinc ions while the robust MnF bonds in the bulk suppress the irreversible phase transition, which concurrently leads to the improved interfacial reaction kinetics and thus excellent zinc storage performance. Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) have aroused continuously increasing attention for grid‐scale energy storage applications. However, the progress of AZIBs is largely plagued by their sluggish reaction kinetics and poor structural reversibility, which are closely related to the desolvation process of hydrated Zn2+. Herein, a strategy of local coordination engineering is proposed to modulate both surface and bulk structure of a conventional α‐MnO2 cathode to overcome these issues. Theoretical simulations and experimental characterizations reveal that the surface F coordinations effectively adjust the absorption strength toward H2O and Zn, which facilitates the desolvation of hydrated Zn2+ and thus improves the interfacial ion diffusion rate and reaction kinetics. Meanwhile, the structural integrity is largely enhanced with suppressed irreversible phase evolution over cycling benefiting from the presence of robust MnF bonds in the bulk lattice. As a consequence, the achieved cathode exhibits almost no capacity degradation after 400 cycles at a low current density of 0.5 A g‐1 and long‐term durability over 3500 cycles at a high current density of 5 A g‐1. The proposed modulation strategy provides new opportunities for designing long‐cycling and high‐energy cathodes for AZIBs and beyond.

Abstract:In this study, we introduce a novel approach for synthesizing two-dimensional (2D) MXene heterostructures featuring a sandwiched and cross-linked network structure. This method addresses the common issue of activity degradation in 2D nanomaterials caused by inevitable aggregation. By utilizing the distinct surface characteristics of MXene, we successfully induced the growth of various 2D nanomaterials on MXene substrates. This strategy effectively mitigates self-stacking defects and augments the exposure of surface areas. In particular, the obtained 2D-2D MXene@NiCo-layered double hydroxide (MH-NiCo) heterostructures exhibit enhanced structural stability, improved chemical reversibility, and heightened charge transfer efficiency, outperforming pure NiCo LDH. The aqueous MH-Ni4Co1//Zn@carbon cloth (MH-Ni4Co1//Zn@CC) battery demonstrates exceptional performance with a remarkable specific capacity of 0.61 mAh cm−2, maintaining 96.6% capacitance after 2300 cycles. Additionally, it achieves an energy density of 1.047 mWh cm−2 and a power density of 32.899 mW cm−2. This research not only paves the way for new design paradigms in energy-related nanomaterials but also offers invaluable insights for the application and optimization of 2D-2D heterostructures in advanced electrochemical devices.

Abstract:According to current knowledge, Osler's disease may be caused by gene defects of several distinct genes, causing vascular fragility and lack of contractility. The most typical symptoms are recurrent spontaneous nose bleedings. Other target organs of the disease include skin, lungs, intestinal tract, brain and liver, but symptoms in these organs are less common. The diagnosis is based on clinical findings, family history and can, if necessary, be confirmed by a gene test. Osler's disease is treated symptomatically. There is no curative treatment.
