Abstract:In this study, vitrification was applied to treat Ni-Cu electroplating sludge. The sludge was mixed with additives (limestone:cullet = 4:6) and then heated to 1450 °C. The cooled product could be separated into slag and ingot. An atomic absorption spectrometer was used to determine the metal levels of specimens and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) tests, whereas the crystalline and surface characteristics were examined using quantitative X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. With a glassy structure, the slag was mainly composed of Ca, Si, and Mg. The TCLP results of slags met the Taiwan regulated standards, suggesting that slag can be used for recycling purposes. With the aid of additives, the crystalline phase of slag was transformed form CaMgSiO4 into CsSiO3. The ingots were mainly composed of Ni (563,000-693,800 mg/kg), Cu (79,900-87,400 mg/kg), and Fe (35,000-43,600 mg/kg) (target metals) due the gravity separation during vitrification. At appropriate additives/sludge ratios (>0.2), >95% of target metals gathered in the ingot as a recoverable form (Ni-Fe alloy). The high Ni level of slag suggests that the ingot can be used as the raw materials for smelters or the additives for steel making. Therefore, the vitrification approach of this study is a promising technology to recover valuable metals from Ni-Cu electroplating sludge.
Near-complete recycling of real mix electroplating sludge as valuable metals via Fe/Cr co-crystallization and stepwise extraction route

Abstract:In electroplating sludge, iron (Fe) and aluminum (Al) are common impurities that need to be separated before recycling valuable heavy metals. However, the traditional Fe/Al separation process often leads to significant losses of heavy metals. To address this issue, a new approach was developed to sequentially separate Fe/Al and recycle chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni) from real electroplating sludge. The sludge contained 4.5% Cr, 1.2% Al, 1.1% Ni, and 14.6% Fe. Initially, the sludge was completely dissolved in a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids. The resulting acid solution was then heated to 160 °C for 10 h with the addition of saccharose. This hydrothermal treatment led to the hydrolysis and crystallization of 98.3% of Fe, 31.8% of Cr, 1.1% of Al, and 4.9% of Ni, forming akaganeite-bearing particles. It was observed that the excessive amount of saccharose also improved the removal of Cr, Al, and Ni, but decreased the removal of Fe. After the hydrothermal treatment, the remaining supernatant was adjusted to different pH levels (1.9, 2.9, and 4.5, respectively), and then Al, Cr, and Ni were stepwise extracted using di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate acid (P204). The recycling efficiencies achieved were 97.4% for Al, 61.2% for Cr, and 89.3% for Ni. This approach provides a promising method for the stepwise separation of Fe/Al and the recycling of heavy metals from electroplating sludge.

Abstract:Serious concerns have been raised from the solid waste processing field about minimizing the environmental footprint of electroplating sludge (ES), not only because of its hazardousness but also due to the rising demand for recycling non-renewable metal resources. A low-temperature alkaline matte smelting process is proposed in the present study. Na2CO3 was used as a flux reagent for smelting ES at 1250 °C, which is 100–250 °C lower than those previously reported. XRD and SEM–EDS revealed that the presence of Na species in the matte and slag phases was conducive to reducing the smelting temperature. The relationship between the processing parameters, i.e., Na2CO3, coal powder, and sulfur dosages, and the partitioning of Cu, Ni, and Cr were investigated for optimal metal recovery. A copper–nickel matte (Cu + Ni = 46.9 wt%) was produced. Cu and Ni recovery achieved 95% and 90%, respectively, while over 99% Cr was concentrated in the slag. The TCLP test indicated that heavy metal leaching toxicities of the slag were below the Chinese national identification standards (GB5085.3-2007) due to the formation of stable spinel phases and embedment of heavy metals in the glassy slag matrix.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Electroplating sludge is a hazardous waste and secondary metal resource because of its heavy metal content, which poses a huge threat to environmental safety if not properly disposed. An innovative process of oxidizing roasting followed by water leaching and smelting reduction to recover Cr, Cu, and Ni from electroplating sludge was proposed in this research, in which other two hazardous wastes of spent cathode carbon combustion dust and copper refining slag were co-treated. The NaF from spent cathode carbon combustion dust could convert Cr2O3 to Na2CrO4 using the oxidizing roasting process, resulting in a Cr recovery through the subsequent water leaching. The Na2CrO4 formation was promoted by CaO owing to it transferring the Cr spinel phase of FeCr2O4 [1+] to CaCrO4 and then to Na2CrO4. Under optimal conditions, the Cr recovery reached 97.1 %, and most ‘F’ was solidified into CaF2. In the next smelting reduction of the leaching residue, the Cu and Ni were recovered mainly in the form of Cu-Ni alloy. The addition of copper refining slag promoted their recovery, due to it modifying the molten slag and alloy structures and increasing the Cu-Ni alloy separation from molten slag. Some generated high-melting-point Cu-Ni-Fe and Ni-Fe alloys were converted to a Cu-Ni alloy with a low melting point in presence of Co from the copper refining slag, simultaneously with which the Fe was transferred out from Cu-Ni-Fe and Ni-Fe alloys and combined with Co to form a Fe-Co alloy. It increased Cu-Ni alloy droplets aggregation from molten slag and decreased their contents in the residual slag. Under optimized conditions, the Cu and Ni contents in the residual slag decreased to 0.37 and 0.06 wt%, respectively. Besides, the residual slag mainly composed of CaO, CaF2 and SiO2 could be used to prepare building materials rendering it harmless.

Abstract:The recovery of heavy metals from electroplating sludge not only reduces environmental damage, but also avoids the wastage of resources. However, acid leaching of electroplating sludge requires lengthy procedures for purification and separation of metals, which leads to high material consumption. In this study, alkali-leaching dealumination and a two-stage roasting water leaching process were combined to selectively recover Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cr from electroplating sludge. Thermodynamic calculations were used for analyzing the theoretical feasibility of roasting electroplating sludge and determining the factors affecting the recovery of Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cr in the roasting process. First, approximately 100 % Al was recovered as AlO 2 - after 6 mol/L of NaOH solution was treated at 90 °C for 1 h. Second, dealumination residue was mixed with NaOH and roasted at 800 °C for 1 h after water leaching, and nearly 99 % Cr was extracted as CrO 4 2- . Third, more than 99 % Ni, Cu, and Zn were extracted as chlorine salts by blending NH 4 Cl into the dechroming residue and conducting roasting at 400 °C for 1 h after water leaching. Overall, this study provides a novel, simple, and efficient approach for the selective recovery of Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cr from electroplating sludge.

Abstract:Fe/S-bearing erdite flocculant has been proven to be effective in the precipitation of heavy metals from real electroplating wastewater, with the only drawback being the huge production of sludge. This sludge was rich in Fe/S/Zn/Cu/Ni and refractory to be recycled due to the extractant pollution by free Fe and the dissolution of sulphide. Herein, a multistep separation method was developed to dissolve sulphide and separate Fe prior to Zn/Cu/Ni. Results showed that more than 92% sludge was dissolved as Fe/Zn/Cu/Ni-rich leachate after the sludge was leached by nitric acid, with the rest of the remaining undissolved elemental sulphurs. When the leachate was directly extracted by using commercially extractant Acorga M5640 and Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (P204), Fe was complexed by the phosphate group of the extractant. The Fe was effectively removed prior to Zn/Cu/Ni to avoid the extractant pollution. The Fe removal efficiency was only 38.34% without sucrose, but it rose to 99.94% with the addition of 0.5 g sucrose. The added sucrose reacted with nitrate to consume H+, which showed a similar rate to the H+ release from Fe hydrolysis. Thereafter, the Fe hydrolysis was continued to remove, the Fe at a high level. The removed Fe was in the form of high-purified hematite nanorod with a diameter and length of 300-600 nm and 0.5-2.5 μm, respectively. After Fe removal, Cu/Zn/Ni was extracted by using Acorga M5640 and P204 to form three halite, including a mixture of copper sulphate hydrate and bonattite (96.8% CuSO4·H2O/CuSO4·3H2O), gunningite (97.5% ZnSO4·H2O) and dwornikite (97.9% NiSO4·H2O). The rest of the solution was neutralised by lime water to remove sulphate as gypsum (95.9% CaSO4) to meet the discharge standard of the electroplating industry. In summary, the recycling efficiency of Fe/Cu/Zn/Ni from the sludge reached 94.4%, 92.6%, 94.7% and 95.3%, which provided an alternative strategy to resource utilise Fe/S-bearing solid waste.

Abstract:Electroplating sludge containing abundant toxic heavy metals is a metal mine. However, selective separation of Ni and Cu from Cr-containing electroplating sludge is a huge challenge for the recovery of electroplating sludge resource. Herein, we proposed a chlorination phase transformation and water leaching method for selectively extracting Ni and Cu. Metal hydroxides were converted into chlorides by chlorination, and the dissociation of the agglomerate released heavy metals. Under the regulation of temperature, CrCl3 converted into Cr2O3 while Ni and Cu still existed in chlorides. Finally, soluble NiCl2 and CuCl2 were recovered by water leaching. Under the optimal conditions (T = 350 °C, L/S = 1.2, t = 0.5 h), 96.3% of Ni and 90.7% of Cu were extracted. And water leaching is more moderate and environmentally friendly than acid leaching. The simulated natural aging test showed that the residue could stay safe and stable for a year. This work would provide a new idea for the selective extraction of heavy metals from hazardous solid wastes.

Abstract:Electroplating sludge is a product of the purification of the electroplating wastewater by neutralization or flocculation precipitation, which belongs to dangerous solid waste. In the study, copper, nickel, zinc and iron from electroplating sludge were recovered by an innovative sulfidation roasting-flotation-magnetic separation technology. The effects of the crucial parameters on the sulfidation ratio of copper and nickel and the volatilization ratio of zinc during the sulfidation roasting were investigated. Under the optimal condition of the sulfidation roasting, the volatilization ratio of zinc reached 78.10 % and the sulfidation ratios of copper and nickel were 88.55 % and 97.86 %, respectively. The migration rule of valuable metals in the roasting process were illustrated by XRD and SEM-EDS. By the flotation treatment for the roasting products, copper-nickel mixed concentrates containing copper 2.377 % and nickel 10.28 % were obtained, and the recoveries of copper and nickel reached 83.73 % and 85.00 %, respectively. After treatment by the flotation, magnetic separation was carried out to obtain iron concentrate with iron grade and recovery of 73.77 % and 12.41 %. Finally, the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure was employed to prove the excellent stability of the heavy metals in the tailing. The study realized the efficient, comprehensive recovery of copper, nickel, zinc and iron from electroplating sludge, and provided a new idea for the harmless and resource utilization of electroplating sludge.

Abstract:Electroplating sludge is a hazardous waste produced in large quantities in the electroplating industry during production. It is rich in heavy metal resources and can be recovered as value-added heavy metal products. To recover Zn in electroplating sludge, Fe/Al/Ca impurities were effectively removed as hematite, boehmite, and calcium sulfate, respectively, via a facile hydrothermal method with reduction of nitric acid by addition of glucose. After the sludge was dissolved in nitric acid, the generated solution contained 6.1 g/L of Zn, 2.2 g/L of Fe, 2.5 g/L of Al, and 2.9 g/L of Ca. First, approximately 100% Fe was extracted as hematite nanoparticles containing 94.6 wt% Fe2O3 after the solution was treated at 190 °C for 6 h. Second, when the temperature was elevated to 270 °C, nearly 99% Al was isolated as boehmite particles containing 95.2 wt% Al2O3. Third, more than 98% Ca was removed as anhydrite, which contained 95.9 wt% CaSO4, by adding sulfuric acid. During the steps, the total loss of Zn was less than 3%, and 5.75 g/L of residual Zn was recovered as zincite containing 92.2 wt% ZnO by adjusting the pH to 8. The dissolved Fe, Al, and Ca impurities were successfully removed as purified hematite, boehmite, and anhydrite, respectively, through the stepwise separation method by adjusting reaction temperatures and pH. The high content of Zn in the electroplating sludge was finally purified as zincite.

Abstract:This paper proposes an innovative carbothermal reduction roasting low-carbon redox refining process for recovering valuable metals, including copper, zinc, nickel, tin and lead, from electroplating sludge. First, the valuable metals are volatilized into the flue gas by carbothermal reduction roasting. At a reduction temperature of 1473 K, a carbon content of 20%, and a reaction time of 60 min, the ratio of Pb, Sn and Zn removal reached 90.77%, 95.14% and 99.92%, respectively. At an oxidation temperature of 1573 K, a SiO2 content of 6% and a reaction time of 180 min, a water-quenching slag suitable for building materials was obtained by low-carbon oxidation reduction refining. Finally, at a reduction temperature of 1473 K, 8% C addition, and a reaction time of 20 min, copper and nickel were enriched on an anode copper plate and the copper content reached more than 98%, meeting the requirements for copper electrolysis.

Abstract:Ladle slag, a by-product of steelmaking, presents a valuable strategy for waste reduction and valorization in wastewater treatment. This work demonstrates the successful simultaneous removal of Al(III), B(III), Ba(II), Cr(III), Mg(II), Sr(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II), from electroplating wastewater by ladle slag. First, Cr(III) and Pb(II) removals were evaluated in single synthetic systems by analyzing the influence of pH, temperature, and ladle slag dosage. Competitive removal was observed in binary batch experiments of Cr(III) - Pb(II), achieving 88% and 96% removal, respectively, with fast kinetics following a pseudo-second-order model. The findings of XRD, SEM, EDX, and FTIR of the slag after removal helped to elucidate the synergic removal mechanism involving ladle slag dissolution, precipitation, ion exchange, and adsorption in a tight relationship with the solution pH. Lastly, ladle slag was tested in real electroplating wastewater with the aforementioned ions at concentrations ranging from <1 to 1700 mg/L. The removal was performed in two steps, the first attained the following efficiencies: 73% for Al(III), 88% for B(III), 98% for Ba(II), 80% for Cr(III), 82% for Mg(II), 99% for Pb(II), 88% for Sr(II), and 88% for Zn(II). Visual MINTEQ simulation was utilized to identify the different species of ions present during the removal process. Furthermore, the leaching tests indicated a minimal environmental risk of secondary pollution in its application. The results promote an effective and sustainable approach to wastewater treatment within the circular economy.
Effect of inorganic anions on hydrothermal removal of impurities Fe/Al from Cu-bearing polymetallic leachate

Abstract:Hydrometallurgy recycling of heavy metals from electroplating sludge is of hot spot in recent decades. Such recycling was tedious in the separation of impure Fe/Al prior to heavy metals from acid leachate after sludge dissolution. Herein, a facile hydrothermal route was developed to separate Fe/Al from Cu-bearing leachate. The results showed that when the leachate was directly hydrothermally treated at 160 °C in the presence of nitrate and ethanol, Al/Cu were stable in the leachate, but nearly 100% Fe was removed as hematite nanoparticles. With the addition of chloridion, the removal efficiencies of Fe/Al/Cu did not change apparently, but the corresponding precipitate was akageneite, not hematite. By replacing chloridion with sulfate, nearly 100% Fe and 98.6% Al were separated as natrojarosite/natroalunite block, while the Cu loss was only 1.7%. However, with the supplementary of phosphate, the Fe/Al removal achieved nearly 100%, but the Cu removal also achieved by 92.6%. The thermodynamic analysis showed that Cu was precipitated rapidly via the phosphate/Cu oxyhydroxide route by adding phosphate but removed slightly via the coordination route on the Fe/Al precipitates with the addition of nitrate, chloridion, and sulfate. In summary, Fe was effectively separated as hematite, akageneite, natrojarosite, and phosphate halite, in the presence of nitrate, chloridion, sulfate, and phosphate, separately. But the removal of Al as natroalunite and AlPO4 only started by adding sulfate and phosphate, respectively. Such results enabled a short hydrometallurgy process to effectively recycle heavy metals from electroplating sludge.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:Harmless disposal and reutilization of electroplating sludge (ES) attract growing interests due to the high content of heavy metals, which requires economical-affordable and environmentally friendly processing technologies. Main reutilization alternatives in China, i.e., acid leaching, bioleaching, smelting, ironmaking blast furnace co-processing (IBFC), and cement kiln co-processing (CKC), were evaluated and compared via life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) methods. In addition, the heavy metal recovery potential of these scenarios was also evaluated to focus on the sustainable use of metal resources. LCA results show that acid leaching outperforms other scenarios due to the environmental benefits originating from recovering heavy metals, while smelting exhibits the worst due to high energy consumption. The environmental contribution analysis reveals that the product nickel sulfate has a significant positive impact on acid leaching and bioleaching scenarios, and energy consumption is the key factor for smelting, IBFC, and CKC. LCC results show that bioleaching outperforms others, while CKC performs the worst because only inorganic materials are utilized. Bioleaching has the lowest externality cost while CKC has the highest. The heavy metal recovery assessment indicates that bioleaching exhibits the greatest potential with recovery rates of 99%, 99%, 93%, 96%, and 95% for Cu, Cr, Ni, Zn, and Fe, respectively. In contrast, the target heavy metal recovery rate for both acid leaching and smelting is 93%. Acid leaching and bioleaching scenarios are more advantageous from a comprehensive comparison.

Abstract:Electroplating sludge (ES), a hazardous waste containing heavy metals and Fe/Al/Ca impurities, is conventionally disposed of in landfills. In this study, a pilot-scale vessel with an effective capacity of 20 L was applied to recycle Zn from real ES. The sludge contained 6.3 wt% Fe, 6.9 wt% Al, 2.6 wt% Si, 6.1 wt% Ca, and 17.6 wt% Zn and was treated using a four-step method. First, ES was dissolved in nitric acid after washing in a water bath at 75 & DEG;C for 3 h to produce an acidic solution with Fe, Al, Ca, and Zn concentrations of 4527.2, 3116.1, 3357.7, and 21,275 mg/L, respectively. Second, the acidic solution was added with glucose at an Mglucose/Mnitrate ratio of 0.08 and hydrothermally treated at 160 & DEG;C for 4 h. During this step, nearly 100 % Fe and 100 % Al were simultaneously removed as a mixture containing 53.1 wt% Fe2O3 and 45.7 wt% Al2O3. This process was repeated five times, during which the Fe/Al removal and Ca/ Zn loss rates remained unchanged. Third, the residual solution was adjusted with sulfuric acid, and over 99 % Ca was removed as gypsum. The residual Fe, Al, Ca, and Zn concentrations were 0.44, 0.88, 52.59, and 31,177.1 mg/L, respectively. Finally, Zn in the solution was precipitated as ZnO with a concentration of 94.3 %. Economic calculations showed that each 1 t of ES processed created revenue of about $122. This is the first study of high-value metal resource recovery using real electroplating sludge at the pilot scale. This work highlights the pilot-scale application of resource utilization of real ES and provides new insights into the recycling of heavy metals from hazardous waste.

Abstract:Nickel-containing electroplating sludge is a solid waste generated during the treatment of electroplating wastewater, often managed through solidification with materials such as cement and lime. This paper presents a novel approach for solidifying nickel-containing electroplating sludge using basic metallurgical solid waste. A mathematical model was employed to determine the kinetics of Ni 2+ leaching, yielding the kinetic equation α(t) = 0.97*(1-exp(-0.19*t)). Rapid leaching occurred in the initial 10 minutes, reaching a concentration of 86.78 mg/L, followed by a slower release, peaking at 104.54 mg/L within 40 minutes. Through the solidification of electroplating sludge with basic waste materials, it was found that the inclusion of 2.0% lime, 12.2% sintering dust, and 2.5% steel slag resulted in Ni 2+ leaching concentrations of 0.28, 0.41, and 0.61 mg/L, respectively, all meeting the discharge standard of <1.00 mg/L. Phase analysis indicated that the main constituents of the solidified products were C-S-H and CaSO 4 , with no detectable change in the crystallinity of Ni 2+ before and after solidification. Thermodynamic calculations further demonstrated that under basic solidification conditions, Ni 2+ transforms from NiSO 4 to Ni(OH) 2 . Microscopic morphology analysis revealed that the encapsulation of Ni 2+ by C-S-H and CaSO 4 led to the densification of the porous microstructure of the electroplating sludge, achieving effective solidification.

Abstract:To enhance the heavy metals (Cu,Pb,Zn,Cr and Ni) removal from electroplating sludge by electrokinetic(EK)enhancement technology,the EK experiments were carried out with and without pH adjustment in cathode chamber of acidified electroplating sludge.The electrokinetic experiments were conducted under a constant potential (32V) during seven days of EK process.The selective sequential extraction (SSE) was used to determine the fractionation of heavy metals in the electroplating sludge.The mobility of heavy metals in electroplating sludge significantly increased after its acidification at the pH of 4.5 and followed the order:Cr＞Ni＞Zn＞Cu＞Pb.After the experiment with acidified electroplating sludge and pH adjustment at cathode chamber,the removal efficiencies of heavy metals were:74.02% for Zn,68.38% for Ni,39.22% for Cu,21.37% for Pb,and the exchangeable,carbonate and sulfate fractionations of heavy metals in initial electroplating sludge were converted to soluble fractionation.However,electroplating sludge acidified treatment and pH adjusted in cathode chamber of acidified electroplating sludge treatment were not beneficial to improve the removal efficiency of Cr,the removal efficiency of Cr decreased from 77.83% of control treatment to 40.65% of electroplating sludge acidified treatment,and furthermore,decreased to 12.80% of pH adjusted in cathode chamber of acidified electroplating sludge treatment.

Abstract:The recovery of heavy metals from industrial solid waste is of great significance for simultaneously alleviating heavy metal pollution and recycling valuable metal resources. However, the complex compositions of the multiple metallic electroplating waste severely limit the selective recovery of metal resources such as nickel. In this study, a kind of nickel-laden electroplating sludge was taken as an example and the Ni in it was targetedly converted into highly valuable NiFe2O4 (nickel ferrite) nanomaterials via a regulator assisted hydrothermal acid-washing strategy, eventually leading to selective extraction of Ni and Ca from the sludge. Sodium carbonate was the best regulator for the formation of NiFe2O4, and under the optimal conditions, the extraction rates of Ni and Ca are 96.70 % and 99.66 %, respectively. The as-prepared NiFe2O4 nanoparticles exhibited stable electrochemical Li-storage performances, such as a reversible capacity of approximate 316.94 mA h/g at 0.5 A/g and a long cycle life exceeding 100 cycles, with nearly no capacity decay. This work provides a facile and sustainable approach for targeted conversion of heavy metals in industrial solid waste to high-valuable functional materials and selective recovery of heavy metals from multi-metal solid wastes.

Abstract:The extraction of Cu and Ni from low-Ni matte in an efficient and green manner is essential to harvest value-added metals with minimum environmental footprint. Herein, a combined approach of chemical precipitation and molten salt electrolysis was used to extract valuable metals (Cu and Ni) from the low-Ni matte. First, the low-Ni matte was converted and separated into CuS and NiS by ammonium chloride roasting, and then, it was water leached and precipitated. Fe was removed from the leachate solution by adjusting the pH value, and the separation of Cu and Ni was carried out by adjusting the temperature, S-to-Ni molar ratio, and precipitation time. The obtained CuS and NiS were then separately converted to sulfur gas at the anode and Cu and Ni at the cathode in molten NaCl-KCl. The reduction behaviors of CuS and NiS were studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV). This study proposes an eco-friendly way to extract valuable metals from low-Ni matte.

Abstract:Heavy metals, which commonly occur in complex forms, are difficult to remove in alkali electroplating wastewater effluent, and their resource recycling is rarely reported. Here, a Cu-bearing alkali wastewater effluent was effectively treated through Fenton oxidation, and the generated Fenton sludge was recycled into highly pure tenorite and hematite particles. The effluent contained 1.51 mg/L Cu and was subjected to Fenton oxidation, pH adjustment and coagulation. Amongst the three methods, Fenton oxidation showed superior efficiency to Cu removal, and the residual Cu in the effluent was 0.06 mg/L, thereby meeting the discharge standard for electroplating wastewater. However, Cu removal achieved less than 20% after pH adjustment and coagulation. Cu-bearing sludge, which was generated through the Fenton process, was dissolved in a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids. The dissolved solution contained 1.92 g/L Cu and 73.6 g/L Fe impurity. Impure Fe (67.4%) was removed as hematite aggregates after the solution was directly treated via a hydrometallurgy route, whilst 99.2% Cu was kept. When 0.5 mL of methanol was introduced to the hydrometallurgy system, nearly 100% Fe was removed as hematite nanoparticles with 94.8% purity, whilst more than 98% Cu was kept. The residual Cu was 1.88 g/L and precipitated as a tenorite block with a CuO content of 91.1% by adjusting the treated solution to pH 9. This study presented an environment-friendly method for enriching Cu from electroplating wastewater effluent without generating any waste.
