Abstract:Objective: To investigate the prevalence of breast and gynecological diseases in female workers in the administrative office and workshop of an automobile part factory, and to provide a basis for promoting the health of female workers. Methods: In March 2015, color ultrasound examination of the breast, uterus, and bilateral adnexa was performed for all female workers, and routine gynecological examination, routine leucorrhea examination, and thinprep liquid-based cytology test were performed for married female workers. The detection rates of breast and gynecological diseases in female workers in the administrative office and workshop were analyzed. Results: In the 314 female workers, the overall detection rate of breast and gynecological diseases was 86.31%; the detection rate of abnormal breast ultrasound results was 72.93%, mainly breast hyperplasia; the detection rate of abnormal gynecological ultrasound results was 12.14%, mainly hysteromyoma, pelvic effusion, and uterus-rectum fossa effusion. The overall detection rate of cervicitis or vaginitis in married female workers was 66.86%. The univariate analysis showed that compared with those in the administrative office, the female workers in the workshop had significantly higher detection rates of breast hyperplasia and grade 2 breast lesions on the Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) and significantly lower detection rates of hysteromyoma and grade 3 breast lesions on the BI-RADS (all P <0.05) . The multivariate analysis showed that age was a risk factor for hysteromyoma (OR=1.261) , age and working in the workshop were risk factors for breast hyperplasia (OR=1.065 and 1.834) , married status was a protective factor against breast hyperplasia and grade 2 breast lesions on the BI-RADS (OR=0.334 and 0.450) , and working in workshop was a risk factor for grade 2 breast lesions on the BI-RADS (OR=1.890) and a protective factor against grade 3 breast lesions on the BI-RADS (OR=0.355) . Conclusion: Female workers in an automobile part factory have high prevalence rates of breast and gynecological diseases. Night shifts for female workers in the workshop should be reduced as much as possible, and female workers, especially those in the administrative office, should be guided to release pressure and take a balanced diet.

Abstract:Introduction: An urgent hygienic problem in the regions with intensive industrial development is the persistence of ambient air pollutants and their adverse health outcomes in the population leading to higher incidence rates of non-communicable diseases and their chronicity. Objective: To substantiate the relationships between high blood levels of copper, nickel, and chromium and biomarkers of their adverse effects on blood, respiratory and immune systems for the tasks of early detection and prevention of poor health outcomes of the combined inhalation exposure to copper, nickel and chromium oxides on the example of the adult population at risk. Materials and methods: We carried out a hygienic assessment of ambient air quality in residential areas and analyzed general population incidence and prevalence for 2016–2020. We also examined the health status of women of reproductive age environmentally exposed to nickel, chromium and copper oxides in the area of residence and of relatively unexposed controls. About 5,000 chemical, clinical, immunological, and biochemical tests were done in 2022. Results: We established associations between higher blood levels of copper, nickel, and chromium and changes in the indicators of adverse health effects. Biomarkers of nonspecific and specific sensitization, chronic inflammation accompanied by an imbalance in the humoral and cellular immunity were hyperproduction of eosinophils in the nasal mucus, blood lymphocytes, specific IgG to copper, a decrease in the phagocytic index and number; lower ferritin marked disorders of iron homeostasis, higher malondialdehyde indicated induction of oxidative processes, and a decrease in antioxidant activity gave evidence of depletion of the total antioxidant activity. Conclusions: It is expedient to use our findings for early detection and subsequent substantiation of targeted measures aimed at preventing disorders of the respiratory and immune systems, blood, and certain disorders involving the immune mechanism, etiopathogenetically related to the combined exposure to the metal oxides tested.
PECULIARITIES OF IMMUNE STATUS IN THE PRESENCE OF SECONDARY IMMUNODEFICIENCY OF INFECTIOUS AND NON-INFECTIOUS ORIGIN IN WOMEN OF REPRODUCTIVE AGE

Abstract:The design of studies on the immune system does not have gender peculiarities, but the information about the higher frequency of pathology of the female reproductive system in the presence of immunodeficiency condition determines the purpose of this study, namely, to identify the features of immune status in the presence of secondary immunodeficiency of infectious (i.e., HIV infection, AIDS stage) and non-infectious origin (alcohol dependence syndrome) and their combination in women of reproductive age. The material for the study of cellular and humoral immunity was a lymphocyte suspension obtained by centrifugation of peripheral blood (taken within 12 hours after death) in women of reproductive age with HIV infection (AIDS stage), alcohol dependence syndrome and their combination. Immunological examination included the determination of quantitative indicators of cellular immunity using monoclonal antibodies: T-lymphocytes (CD3) and their main subpopulations of T-helper cells (CD4), cytotoxic lymphocytes (CD8), CD4/CD8 immunoregulatory index; as well as indicators of humoral immunity: B-lymphocytes (CD19) and immunoglobulins of the main classes (IgA, IgG, IgM). Additionally, interleukins IL-6 and IL-10 were studied to determine the parameters of the cytokine profile. The study indicates that the number of leukocytes and lymphocytes in the group of deceased women with alcohol dependence syndrome was 3.6±0.38x109/l and 0.82±0.35x109/l; in deceased women with HIV/AIDS, these indicators were reduced - 2.9±0.03x109/l and 0.39±0.04x109/l, respectively; and in deceased women with combined pathology (AIDS and alcohol dependence syndrome), they were reduced even more intensively - 2.7±0.04x109/l and 0.35±0.06x109/l (p<0.01). Compared to the control group - 5.22±0.4x109/l and 1.73±0.21x109/l - the number of leukocytes and lymphocytes was reduced in all study groups. In the group of deceased women with alcohol dependence syndrome, significant impairments in the proliferative activity of T-lymphocytes (CD3) and their subpopulation (CD4), as well as B lymphocytes (CD19) and natural killer cells (CD16) were found compared to the group of healthy individuals. Thus, in the control group, the percentage, and absolute values of CD3 were 60.37±4.2% and 1.04±0.05×106/l, and in women suffering from chronic alcoholism, they were statistically significantly lower - 49.1±3.1% and 0.42±0.08×106/l, respectively, p<0.01. The same tendency was found when comparing the values of T-helper cells (CD4) in the control group (44.2±2.9% and 0.76±0.13×106/l) and in deceased patients suffering from chronic alcoholism (33.7±4.6% and 0.28±0.23×106/l), p<0.01. Secondary immunodeficiencies of infectious and non-infectious origin in women (in particular, those formed in HIV/AIDS, alcohol dependence syndrome and their combination) are characterized by negative changes in the cellular and humoral components of the immune system, as evidenced by the presence of transient immunodeficiency, activation of cytolytic and auto aggressive reactions. As a result of these processes, systemic and organ pathology develops, in particular, weakening of the body's resistance to various infections and pathological changes in organs and tissues, which may be one of the links in the development of pathological processes in internal organs and tissues.
Exposure to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Risk for Premature Ovarian Failure and Reproductive Hormones Imbalance

Abstract:Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a typical class of persistent organic pollutants that is ubiquitous worldwide. Previous animal studies suggested that PAHs had adverse effects on female reproduction. However, the human data regarding relationship of PAHs exposure with women reproductive health, such as ovarian dysfunction, are scarce. In this case-control study, the associations of serum levels of PAHs with the risk of premature ovarian failure (POF) and reproductive hormones in Chinese women were investigated, with recruiting 157 POF patients and 217 healthy women. The serum levels of 12 types of PAHs, as well as reproductive hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and anti-mullerian hormone, were determined. In the logistic regression models, most individual PAH congeners showed significantly positive correlations with the risk of POF (p < 0.05), except for fluorine and pyrene. Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), as the most carcinogenic PAH congener, was observed to be significantly positively associated with the risk of POF. After adjustment for age, body mass index, educational levels and household income, per one-unit increase in the log-transformed BaP concentration was significantly correlated with 2.191-fold increased risk of POF (OR = 2.191, 95%CI: 1.634-2.938, p < 0.05). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report an association between internal exposure levels of PAHs and the increased risk of POF in women. Abstract:A retrospective case report on the management of a 56‐year‐old man who was diagnosed with Fusarium keratitis with an associated iris fungal nodule. He presented with persistent right ocular pain, redness, photophobia and reduced vision following an injury six weeks earlier. Conservative management with topical antibiotics and intracameral injections was successfully used to treat a rare case of Fusarium keratitis with an associated fungal iris nodule. The patient had complete resolution of his vision. Therefore, conservative management of the fungal nodule is a successful therapy without the risk of anterior chamber dissemination, which may occur with surgical resection.
Features of intestinal microbiota taxonomic composition and their relation with hormonal and immune status assessed in women with external genital endometriosis

Abstract:Aim: systemically assessed characteristics of intestinal microbiota taxonomic composition in relation to parameters of hormonal and immune status in patients with external genital endometriosis (EGE). Materials and Methods. The controlled cross-sectional study included 33 patients with ЕGE comprising main group, and 30 healthy women enrolled to control group. All women underwent assessment of hormonal status and cytokine expression levels in peripheral blood. Level of blood hormones estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin (PRL) was carried out using enzyme-linked immunosorbent and chemiluminescent assays. Expression levels of cytokines such as interleukin (IL) IL-6, IL-8, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were analyzed by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Taxonomic composition of intestinal microbiota at the level of phyla and genera was carried out by 16S ribosomal RNA genesequencing. Microbial community α-diversity, the Chao1, ACE, and Sobs indices were used. Results. The concentration of blood E2 in main group was significantly higher compared to control group. Also, women with ЕGE had higher plasma concentrations for IL-6, IL-8, IL-17 and TNF-α compared to those in control group (p < 0.001). While analyzing bacterial community α-diversity in main group, Chao1 index was found to be significantly decreased. At the phylum level, the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio was increased in patients with ЕGE compared with that in control group. Among the 20 largest genera in patients with ЕGE, significant abundance was observed for Lachnospira , Blautia , Dorea , Streptococcus , Eubacterium hallii_group paralleled with significant decline in Bifidobacterium and Eubacterium eligens_group . A positive correlation was obtained between estrogen levels and the number of representatives from the genera Eubacterium hallii_group and Streptococcus , IL-8 and Streptococcus , TNF-α and Streptococcus and Lachnospira , as well as a negative correlation between TNF-α and Bifidobacterium . Conclusion. A relation between dysbiotic intestinal alterations and developing endometriosis was found. The identified correlations between altered taxonomic composition of the intestinal microflora and parameters of hormonal and immune status in patients with ЕGE suggest that intestinal microbiota is involved in pathophysiology of endometriosis.
Variability study of immune status modified by polymorphic genetic profile in women with pregnancy loss under hydroxybenzene exposure

Abstract:The study was performed in Perm, an industrially developed Russian city where hydroxybenzene concentrations are excessive due to dust and gaseous emissions from non-ferrous metallurgic plants. Their concentrations exceed average daily and single maximally permissible amounts. Hydroxybenzene and its derivatives are hormone-like substances, thus being hazardous to female reproductive system. The goal of our study was to analyze variability of immune state influenced by polymorphic genetic profile of women with pregnancy loss under hydroxybenzene exposure. Chemical analysis of ambient air quality was performed according to MG 4.1.617-96 regulations. Biological samples were taken from 129 women with reproductive disorders at their fertile age during the five-year observation period. Hydroxybenzene contents in blood were detected with gas chromatography with inductively coupled plasma. The test group 1 included women with reproductive disorders and phenol contents in blood exceeding the reference level ( 0.016 mg/cm3 ). Test group 2 consisted of women with reproductive disorders and phenol contents in blood within standard ranges. The control group 1 consisted of conditionally healthy women with phenol contents in their blood being higher than 0.016 mg/cm3 . Control group 2 included conditionally healthy women with phenol contents in their blood corresponding to the standard values. Serotonin content in blood serum considered catecholamine regulation marker was estimated with ELISA technique; phenol-specific IgG contents were measured by means of modified competitive ELISA method. PCR technique was used for detection of ACTN3 rs1815739 gene polymorphism associated with catecholamine metabolism. We found that a half of the total study group were exposed to phenol and cresols at concentrations 1.0 MPC average daily and single maximal dose. Incidence of endometriosis among them tended to increase over the examined 5-year periodL this disorder is known to contribute to pregnancy loss. Chemical analysis of blood allowed us to reveal phenol contamination in all the women to varying degrees. Regression analysis allowed to reveal a significant dependence between phenol contents in blood and phenol-specific IgG, as well as significant correlation between blood serotonin contents and cresols concentrations (p 0.05). Kruskal–Wallis test revealed significant intergroup differences by serotonin levels. There were significant differences between the test groups 1 and 2 by serotonin contents (at p 0.0083 with Bonferroni correction). Frequencies of ACTN3 rs1815739 genotypes, using a multiplicative model, allowed us to assign T allele to the factors contributing to risk of reproductive losses induced by biological media contaminated with phenol in excess. Cross-classification analysis revealed a causal relationship between serotonin contents and ACTN3 rs1815739 genotype.
Environmental contaminants, sex hormones and SHBG in an elderly population

Abstract:Introduction: Effects of environmental contaminants (ECs) on endocrine systems have been reported, but few studies assessed associations between ECs and sex hormones (SH) in elderly. Aim of this study was to investigate whether blood concentrations of four classes of ECs were associated with SH concentrations in elderly. Methods: Samples from participants of the cross-sectional population-based Prospective Investigation of the Vasculature in Uppsala Seniors study (PIVUS, 70-year-old men and women, n = 1016) were analyzed using validated mass spectrometry-based methods for SH (testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT), estrone and estradiol (E2)); 23 persistent organic pollutants (POPs); 8 perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); 4 phthalates and 11 metals. SH binding globulin (SHBG) was analyzed using immunoassay. The measured concentrations were normalized, and the values converted to a z-scale. Linear regression analyses were conducted to assess association between concentration of the SH, SHBG and E2/T (aromatase enzyme index, AEI) with the ECs. Multiple linear regression analyses were performed to model the relationships. Results: The strongest associations were observed with the polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). In men, the strongest associations with concentrations of SH and SHBG were seen for PCBs containing >5 chlorine, monoethyl phthalate (MEP), Ni and Cd; and in women, with PCBs, MEP, several of the PFAS, Cd, Co, and Ni. Difference in the effect of ECs on AEI between men and women were observed. Area under the ROC curve for the models predicting abnormal values of SH and SHBG >0.75 due to the effects of ECs was observed for T, DHT, and E2 in men, and for E2 and SHBG in women. Conclusions: Results of this study suggest that in elderly subjects, concentrations of many ECs associated with concentrations of SH and SHBG, and AEI. Further studies are needed to confirm the findings and to assess effect of the pollutants on endocrine system function in elderly.

Abstract:Introduction. We studied the nicotine addiction stage and secondhand smoke interrelationships with the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease severity in smokers of reproductive age. Aim of the study was to research in the nicotine addiction and secondhand smoke impact upon the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease severity in smoking women of reproductive age. Materials and Methods. Using the questionnaire methodology developed, the nicotine addiction stage was analyzed in reproductive women with and without secondhand smoke (based on questionnaire survey outcomes). There were 107 smoking female patients of reproductive age divided into two groups: Those with secondhand smoke and those without it. Observational group consisted of 42 non-smoking women without any chronic diseases. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was diagnosed based on the clinical recommendations of the Russian Respiratory Society (2021). The data obtained during the study were analyzed followed by the comparison of the outcomes between the groups of smoking patients with secondhand and non-secondhand smoking, against the observational group. The outcomes led us to determine whether there is a statistically significant relationship between secondhand smoke and nicotine addiction stage in the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The reliability of the outcomes was assessed using the methods of parametric and nonparametric statistics. Before using all statistical research methods, we checked whether the sampling complied with the Gaussian (normal) distribution law. Variables that did not obey the normal distribution law or those with the uncertain distribution law were analyzed using a nonparametric statistical method, i. e., Pearson criterion. Results and Discussion. Average age of the smoking patients is 26.5 years. Average index of smokers was 6.59 pack-years. The smokers’ index exceeded the middle of the indicator contributing to the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease development (10 pack – years), which is typical for a young age and their smoking experience. It was found that the nicotine addiction stage correlates with the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease severity with a statistically significant reliability. Conclusions. Secondhand smoke in addition to active smoking, reduces the temporal characteristics of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease severity.
Effects of cigarette smoking on semen quality, reproductive hormone levels, metabolic profile, zinc and sperm DNA fragmentation in men: results from a population-based study

Abstract:Background: Cigarette smoking seems to have a negative impact on men's reproductive health, but our knowledge of its effects on the reproductive function of Russian men is still very limited. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cigarette smoking on semen quality, including sperm DNA fragmentation, hormonal, zinc and metabolic status in young men from the general multi-ethnic Russian population (n=1,222, median age 23 years) and to find out the ethno-specific effects of smoking by comparing male groups of different ethnicity. Methods: Each participant filled out a standardized questionnaire, provided one blood and semen sample. Semen parameters, serum reproductive hormones, lipids, glucose, uric acid and seminal zinc were analyzed. Participants were classified as smokers (n=450) and non-smokers (n=772), and smokers were stratified into moderate (≤10 cigarettes/day) and heavy (>10 cigarettes/day) smokers. Results: In the entire study population, heavy smokers were characterized by a decrease in semen volume, total sperm count, sperm concentration and motility, and an increase in sperm DNA fragmentation and teratozoospermia compared with non-smokers (p<0.05). There was also a reduction in the serum and seminal zinc level as well as an impairment in metabolic health in smokers compared with non-smokers (p<0.05). No significant differences between smokers and non-smokers were found for serum levels of LH, FSH, inhibin B, testosterone and estradiol. In the second part of our study, the most numerous ethnic groups of Slavs (n=654), Buryats (n=191), and Yakuts (n=125) were selected from the entire study population. Among three ethnic groups, the smoking intensity was higher in Slavs than in Buryats or Yakuts suggesting a greater tobacco addiction in Slavs than in Asians. A decrease in semen parameters and seminal zinc levels, and an increase in sperm DNA fragmentation and teratozoospermia was observed only in smoking Slavs (p<0.05); moderate decrease in testosterone and increase in triglyceride levels were revealed in smoking Yakuts (p<0.05), but no significant changes were detected in smoking Buryats. Conclusion: We concluded that cigarette smoking has an ethno-specific effect on male reproductive function, probably due to the different activity of the seminal antioxidant system, which is yet to be elucidated.
CLINICAL ASPECTS IN WOMEN WITH MENSTRUAL DYSFUNCTION IN PUBERTY

Abstract:The reproductive system is exposed to various adverse factors and harmful effects at all stages of functioning of an organism. Against the background of declining levels of women's reproductive health in recent years, there has been a clear tendency towards an increase in the number of patients with pathology of puberty. The low level of somatic and reproductive health before pregnancy causes a high incidence of complicated labors, which leads to a deterioration in the development of subsequent generations.The purpose of the study. To provide clinical characteristics of women who had menstrual dysfunction in puberty, which were based on the study of clinical and anamnestic data, laboratory and instrumental research methods, analysis of risk factors, clinical course, treatment effectiveness and dispensary observation.Materials and methods. According to the nature of the disfunctions, the main group of women (n = 210) who had menstrual disorders in puberty was divided into 3 subgroups (n = 70): the first - women with primary oligomenorrhea and timely average menarche, the second - with late menarche, the third - with pubertal bleeding. The control group included women (n = 70) with the correct rhythm of menstruation in puberty.Results. The clinical prospective study analyzed the social status of women with reproductive dysfunction in puberty, the frequency and structure of existing concomitant somatic diseases, the duration of the menstrual cycle, the nature of diseases of the female genital organs; the assessment of the comprehensive treatment of revealed disorders, which allowed to obtain a favorable reproductive prognosis. The majority of surveyed women (53.3%) planned a pregnancy, which occurred in 75.9% from among of planning ones.Conclusions. The conduction of clinical and anamnestic analysis of the reproductive function of women with menstrual dysfunction in puberty will increase the effectiveness of the treatment of identified disorders and will allow developing algorithms for management of such women during planning and during pregnancy.

Abstract:Background. Female sexual dysfunction is extremely common and affects about half of the worlds women. Currently, the question of the relationship between gynecological morbidity in women and the characteristics of sexual activity and sexual functioning in a couple remains poorly understood. Aim. To establish gynecological diseases associated with decreased sexual functioning, sexual health disorders in women on the basis of a screening assessment when visiting the clinic. Materials and methods. We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study of the sexual functioning of 1256 women who presented to outpatient appointments. Anamnestic and clinical methods were used, sexological testing using the Female Sexual Function Index questionnaire. Results. Based on anamnestic data, screening assessment of sexual health and sexual functioning of 1235 women who applied for outpatient appointments to a gynecological clinic, a high gynecological and extragenital morbidity was established in patients (100%). The structure of gynecological diseases is represented by female infertility (48.3%), inflammatory diseases of the genital organs (38.5%; of which salpingo-oophoritis 16.6% and vulvovaginitis 15.9%), endometriosis (13.9%) , menstrual irregularities (8.3%), as well as pain disorders (8.1%). The incidence of infections, predominantly sexually transmitted, was revealed, among them papillomatous viral infection (8.3%), genital herpes (5.3%) and chlamydia (3.7%). It was found that in gynecological patients with diseases characterized by a chronic course, inflammation, pelvic pain, menstrual and reproductive disorders, sexual functioning significantly decreases (p=0.00) and sexual health is impaired. Sexual dysfunctions were detected in 21.6% of patients, their structure is represented by isolated (39.3%) and combined (60.7%) disorders of libido, orgasm, sexual anhedonia, failure of genital response, as well as dyspareunia, vaginismus. In 33.7% of patients, preclinical forms of sexual dysfunction were identified that did not meet the criteria for sexual dysfunction (did not cause distress, were short-lived), but confirmed by the analysis of patient complaints, as well as by the results of the Female Sexual Function Index questionnaire. Conclusion. Thus, chronic gynecological diseases with inflammatory manifestations, pelvic pain, menstrual and reproductive dysfunctions are associated with decreased sexual functioning, sexual dysfunctions, and preclinical forms of sexual dysfunctions.

Abstract:Pathologies of the hepatobiliary system occupy a significant share in the total structure of diseases. Morphological changes that develop in the liver during its toxic damage are based on cytolysis of hepatocytes. Metabolic disorders arising from exposure to tetrachloromethane may alter the production of anti-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines by cells of the immune system. The aim of our study was to investigate reparative processes and immune mechanisms in rat liver tissues against the background of loading with aqueous extracts of blackberry and common sawfly and induced oxidative stress. Materials and methods. 120 rats were used in the experiment. According to group affiliation animals received aqueous extracts of common and blackberry in a dose of 50 mg/100g of animal weight, 1.5 ml daily for 30 days, and animals of the control group received distilled water in the same regime. Starting from 30 days of the experiment, rats were injected with tetrachloromethane oil solution at a dose of 2 g/kg of animal weight in parallel with the administration of plant extracts for 6 days. On the 37th day of the experiment, blood was taken from the animals and then killed according to ethical standards. Histological preparations were made from liver tissues and the number of sinusoidal cells was counted. The content of cytokines in rat liver homogenates and blood plasma was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using a Lazurite Automated ELISA System. Results. In case of oxidative stress in blood plasma there is an increased production of proinflammatory cytokine TNFα and suppression of IL-10 production, while the concentration of proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-18 does not change significantly. At the same time, in response to diffuse toxic liver damage and oxidative stress in liver tissues there is an increase in the concentration of cytokines IL- 1α, IL-18, TNFα, IL-10 and a decrease in the concentration of IL-6, IFNγ, TGF-β. Increased production of IL-1α and IL-18 in liver tissues seems to trigger local inflammation by increasing the levels of cytokines such as TNFα, IL-6. The increased concentration of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 confirms the key role of this mediator in the regulation of immune response and its ability to suppress the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNFα and IL-6. Conclusion. The aqueous extracts of fir and blackberry modulate to different degrees the functional state of sinusoidal cells in the early periods of toxic exposure to tetrachloromethane, which contributes to the early resolution of the inflammatory process. Exposure of aqueous extracts of fir and blackberry to sinusoidal cells changes the production of regulatory factors, which compensates the speed of recovery processes after toxic exposure.

Abstract:This paper describes and analyses the history of the fundamental equation of modern financial economics: the Black-Scholes (or Black-Scholes-Merton) option pricing equation. In that history, several themes of potentially general importance are revealed. First, the key mathematical work was not rule-following but bricolage, creative tinkering. Second, it was, however, bricolage guided by the goal of finding a solution to the problem of option pricing analogous to existing exemplary solutions, notably the Capital Asset Pricing Model, which had successfully been applied to stock prices. Third, the central strands of work on option pricing, although all recognizably ‘orthodox’ economics, were not unitary. There was significant theoretical disagreement amongst the pioneers of option pricing theory; this disagreement, paradoxically, turns out to be a strength of the theory. Fourth, option pricing theory has been performative. Rather than simply describing a preexisting empirical state of affairs, it altered the world, in general in a way that made itself more true.

Abstract:Abstract Background Considerable interest has been gathered on the relevant impact of preventable factors, including incorrect lifestyle and unhealthy habits, on female fertility. Smoking, alcohol and addictive drugs consumption represent a major concern, given the broad range of diseases which might be favored or exacerbated by these dependable attitudes. Despite the well-characterized effects of prenatal exposure on pregnancy outcomes and fetus health, a substantial proportion of women of reproductive age is still concerned with these habits. At present, the impact of smoke, alcohol and addictive drugs on women fertility, and, particularly, the specific targets and underlying mechanisms, are still poorly understood or debated, mainly due to the scarcity of well-designed studies, and to numerous biases. Objective The current review will provide a comprehensive overview of clinical and experimental studies in humans and animals addressing the impact of smoke, alcohol and addictive drugs on female fertility, by also embracing effects on ovary, oviduct, and uterus, with particular reference to primary endpoints such as ovarian reserve, steroidogenesis, ovulation and menstrual cycle, oviduct function and uterus receptivity and implantation. A brief focus on polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis will be also included. Methods A Pubmed literature search was performed with selected keywords; articles were individually retrieved by each author. No limitation was set for publication date. Articles in languages other than English were excluded. Additional articles were retrieved from references list of selected manuscripts. Results and conclusions Currently, the most consistent evidences of a detrimental effect of smoke, alcohol and addictive drugs on specific domains of the female reproductive function are provided by experimental studies in animals. Overall, clinical studies suggest that smoking is associated to decreased fertility, although causal inference should be further demonstrated. Studies addressing the effect of alcohol consumption on female fertility provide conflicting results, although the majority reported lack of a correlation. Extremely scarce studies investigated the effects of addictive drugs on female fertility, and the specific actions of selected drugs have been difficult to address, due to multidrug consumption.

Abstract:Introduction: Epidemiological evidence over the last few decades has consistently shown that exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) is associated with adverse reproductive health outcomes, including male and female infertility, poor-pregnancy outcomes, and increased risk of diseases in childhood and beyond. To investigate the effects of EDCs and lifestyle on all aspects of reproduction (including early oocyte development, fertilization, embryo development, embryo implantation, abortion, and preterm birth). Methods: We performed this cohort study on patients receiving in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. Biological samples including urine, serum, follicular fluid, semen, fetal tissue, decidua, and placenta, were obtained. Results: By studying the correlations between reproductive outcomes and environmental pollutant exposure and lifestyle, we determined the toxicological mechanisms and health effects of EDCs on female reproductive health. We found that higher concentrations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances were correlated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Using specific biomarkers, we also detected the concentrations of organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) in urine and found that OPFRs may disrupt hormone homeostasis. Discussion: All of these results reveal EDCs may disrupt female reproduction.

Abstract:Background: Lifestyle intervention is the first-line treatment for PCOS. Numerous studies have investigated the effect of various lifestyle factors, including dietary habit, smoking, and alcohol consumption on PCOS women. These studies have found that such factors may be associated with physiological parameters such as androgen, and emotional states like anxiety or depression. Smoking, a harmful lifestyle habit widely recognized to contribute to various diseases, has also been found to be related to PCOS. Current research has not adequately compared the effects of smoking with other lifestyle habits on PCOS, and there is little mention of its relationship with the emotional states of patients with PCOS. To further elucidate the association between smoking and other lifestyle factors with clinical symptoms in patients with PCOS, we conducted a cross-sectional evaluation using data from Peking University Third Hospital, with a special focus on analyzing smoking habits and comparing it with a variety of lifestyle factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 601 PCOS women and 184 healthy controls who underwent physical examinations, hormone profiles and psychological measures. We assessed the association between smoking and the clinical symptoms in PCOS women. Results: We found a significant correlation between smoking and the degree of depression in PCOS women among the three emotional states: anxiety, depression, and stress. Smoking was also significantly associated with testosterone level in PCOS participants, suggesting that PCOS women who smoke exhibited more severe depressive symptoms and higher testosterone level. In addition, compared to the control group, PCOS women had notably higher testosterone (T) and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels. Smoke and alcohol were statistically significantly more common in women with PCOS than the Control. Conclusion: Women with PCOS who smoke were found to have elevated testosterone levels and more severe depression. These findings suggest that clinicians should monitor smoking women with PCOS for symptoms of depression and assess their hyperandrogenic status.

Abstract:Exposure to air pollution is associated with many different health effects, especially cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Additionally, highly significant links between exposure to air pollution and fertility, particularly male fertility was observed, however the studies regarding exposure to selected air pollutants and female fertility assessed by ovarian reserve are rare. Hence, the main aim of the study was to analyze relationship between exposure to ambient air pollution and ovarian reserve parameters among Polish women. The study population consisted of 511 women, who attended to infertility clinic because of diagnostic purposes. Participants filled in the questionnaire about social-demographic, lifestyle and health factors. Infertility specialists assessed ovarian parameters such as: antral follicle count (AFC) and concentration of hormones: Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and estradiol (E2). The air pollutants level (sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, particulate matters) were obtained via National Environmental Protection Inspectorate database. Significant negative association between PM 2,5 and AHM (p = 0.032) as well as AFC (p = 0.044) was observed. Moreover, SO 2 concentrations decrease AFC (p = 0.038). The results also suggest that PM 10 , PM 2.5 , SO 2 exposure on antral follicle count may be more pronounced among women with a female factor infertility diagnosis. Additionally, exposure to PM 2.5 and NOx on AFC and AMH was stronger among older women (> 35 years of age). To conclude, the present study found that air pollution could lead to decrease in follicle antral count and Anti-Müllerian hormone level, especially exposure to PM 2,5 and SO 2 thus the evidence suggest negative impact to ovarian reserve.

Abstract:The ovarian function decreases with age, and various markers, such as follicle stimulating hormone, inhibin B, antral follicle count, and anti-Müllerian hormone, are used for its evaluation. Recently, exposure to various environmental pollutants in daily life has been reported as an important cause of ovarian function decline. Therefore, the present study aimed to confirm the effect of environmental pollutants on the relationship between age and decline in ovarian function. The exposure levels of 16 environmental pollutants were evaluated in women aged 26-40 years, and the AMH levels and FSH/AMH ratios were used as markers for the decline of ovarian function. The participants were divided into two groups: low-level or high-level for each environmental pollutant if their exposure level was below or above the median respectively. The slope of the decrease or increase in the AMH level and FSH/AMH ratio of each group with age was evaluated. The FSH/AMH ratio better presented the difference in the rate of change with age in each group than did AMH alone. In particular, the rate of change in the FSH/AMH ratio increased 5.2 and 3.7 times (p<0.05) in the group exposed to high levels of the volatile organic compound metabolite, trans, trans-muconic acid and the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons metabolite, 2-hydroxynaphthalene, respectively, than in the low-level exposure groups for those metabolites. This study confirmed that environmental pollutants influenced the rate of change in the FSH/AMH ratio with age. Further studies on larger populations are necessary in the future.
Exposure Assessment of Aryl-Organophosphate Esters Based on Specific Urinary Biomarkers and Their Associations with Reproductive Hormone Homeostasis Disruption in Women of Childbearing Age.

Abstract:The effects of aryl-organophosphate esters (aryl-OPEs) on female reproduction health are still unclear owing to the lack of specific exposure biomarkers. Here, we analyzed the hydroxylated metabolites of three aryl-OPEs (phenyl diphenyl phosphate [TPhP], 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate [EHDPP], and tricresyl phosphate [TCrP]) and diphenyl phosphate (DPhP) in urine samples from 913 women of childbearing age, and explored the association between exposure to the aryl-OPEs and reproductive hormone levels. The detection frequencies of 2-ethyl-5-hydroxyhexyl diphenyl phosphate (5-OH-EHDPP), phenyl di-p-tolyl phosphate (4-OH-MDTP), and 4-hydroxyphenyl diphenyl phosphate (4-OH-TPhP) were 94.6 %, 93.3 %, and 84.2 %, respectively. Multivariate linear regression analyses revealed that the quartiles of 4-OH-TPhP were positively associated with the progesterone (P4) level (p-trend = 0.008), and the P level in the highest quartile of 5-OH-EHDPP was 7.2 % (95 % CI, 5.7 % to 8.7 %) higher than that in the lowest quartile. The 17β-estradiol levels in the highest quartiles of 4-OH-TPhP and 5-OH-EHDPP were 15.0 % (95 % CI, 13.7 % to16.1 %) and 5.9 % (95 % CI, 15.7 % to 16.1 %) lower than those in the lowest quartiles, respectively. The anti-Müllerian hormone level linearly increased across the quartiles of 4-OH-MDTP (p-trend = 0.036), and the follicle-stimulating hormone exhibited the opposite trend (p-trend = 0.0047). These results indicate that aryl-OPEs may disrupt hormone homeostasis using their specific biomarkers and may negatively affect female reproduction.
