Abstract:The synthesis of the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposite was achieved through a facile hydrothermal method combined with in situ photodeposition. Subsequently, its efficacy in catalyzing the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation was systematically investigated. The Bi2MoO6 samples and the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites underwent comprehensive characterization using a suite of techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The analyses unveiled a homogeneous distribution of Ag nanoparticles on the surface of AgBr/Bi2MoO6, indicative of the successful formation of the composite. To assess the photocatalytic efficiency, the degradation of RhB under visible light irradiation was employed as a benchmark. Notably, the incorporation of Ag nanosheets, serving as electron mediators and Schottky barriers, facilitated efficient electron transfer between Bi2MoO6 and AgBr. Consequently, the photocatalytic activity of the ternary Z-type heterogeneous Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites surpassed that of the pure Bi2MoO6 and AgBr samples. Remarkably, under 12 min of visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites reached an impressive 99.99 %.

Abstract:The field of environmental and water remediation faces a significant challenge in removing organic dyes from wastewater, particularly Rhodamine B (RhB), a stubborn dye used in various industries. Traditional treatment methods struggle with its resistance to decomposition, posing risks to water quality, human health, and aquatic life. This study demonstrates a novel approach to enhance photocatalytic efficiency for RhB degradation by constructing a MOF-5/g-C 3 N 4 composite through a facile mechanical grinding method, which is unprecedented. The composite addresses the limitations of g-C 3 N 4 , such as rapid recombination of electron–hole pairs, low electron transfer rates, and small surface area, by forming a heterojunction with MOF-5. The composite exhibits enhanced photocatalytic efficiency for the degradation of RhB under sunlight, with a degradation of 91.5% achieved within 90 min. Optimization studies highlight the importance of pH and catalyst dosage in the degradation process. The reusability test shows consistent performance over five successive cycles, maintaining a degradation efficiency of over 90%. Total organic carbon (TOC) analyses confirm the mineralization of the dye solution to 82.05% after 90 min of irradiation, demonstrating the environmental benignity of the composite. Trapping experiments suggest the involvement of superoxide radicals, electrons, and holes in the photocatalytic mechanism. This study introduces a promising strategy for addressing challenges in dye degradation through innovative composite materials.

Abstract:Water pollution, arising from the presence of toxic dyes and chemicals, is a global challenge, urging the need for eco-friendly solutions in water decontamination. This study focused on the synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs), zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), and a bimetallic CuO-ZnO nanocomposite (CZ NC) through an environmentally friendly method employing Tragia involucrata L. leaf extract. Comprehensive analysis of structural and optical properties involved using various analytical techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, XPS, UV-DRS, PL, FE-SEM, EDAX, TEM, SAED, zeta potential, TGA, and BET. In comparison to pristine CuO and ZnO NPs, the CZ-NC demonstrated notably enhanced photocatalytic activity in the degradation of Rhodamine B dye (RhB). The optimum conditions for RhB degradation were found to be a pH of 9 and a catalyst dosage of 1 mg/mL for a concentration of 10 ppm. Under these conditions, CuO NPs, ZnO NPs, and CZ-NC demonstrated high efficiencies of 78%, 83%, and 96.1% respectively over 105 min. Through LC-HRMS, the identification of degradation products offered valuable insights into the pathway of photocatalytic degradation. Furthermore, toxicity analysis of intermediates, conducted through ECOSAR software, indicated the formation of non-toxic by-products (ChV/LC 50 /EC 50 > 100) after the completion of the reaction. Furthermore, the recycled catalysts exhibited sustained stability for up to 4 cycles, with only a minor decrease in activity of up to 6.8%. This confirms their catalytic efficacy in purifying polluted water. This research significantly contributes to the progress of environmentally friendly nanocomposites, enhancing their efficacy in the realm of environmental remediation.

Abstract:This study explores the effectiveness of Alginate-coated nano‑iron oxide combined with copper-based MOFs (Cu-BTC@Alg/Fe3O4) composites for the sustainable and efficient removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye from wastewater through adsorption and photocatalysis. Utilizing various characterization techniques such as FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TEM, we confirmed the optimal synthesis of this composite. The composites exhibit a significant surface area of approximately 160 m2 g-1, as revealed by BET analysis, resulting in an impressive adsorption capacity of 200 mg g-1 and a removal efficiency of 97 %. Moreover, their photocatalytic activity is highly effective, producing environmentally friendly degradation byproducts, thus underlining the sustainability of Cu-BTC@Alg/Fe3O4 composites in dye removal applications. Our investigation delves into kinetics and thermodynamics, revealing a complex adsorption mechanism influenced by both chemisorption and physisorption. Notably, the adsorption kinetics indicate equilibrium attainment within 100 min across all initial concentrations, with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model fitting the data best (R2 ≈ 0.999). Furthermore, adsorption isotherm models, including Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich, elucidate the adsorption behavior, with the Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models showing superior accuracy compared to the Langmuir model (R2 ≈ 0.98 and R2 ≈ 0.96, respectively). Additionally, thermodynamic analysis reveals a negative Gibbs free energy value (-6.40 kJ mol-1), indicating the spontaneity of the adsorption process, along with positive enthalpy (+24.3 kJ mol-1) and entropy (+82.06 kJ mol-1 K) values, suggesting an endothermic and disorderly process at the interface. Our comprehensive investigation provides insights into the optimal conditions for RhB adsorption onto Cu-BTC@Alg/Fe3O4 composites, highlighting their potential in wastewater treatment applications.
Fe-Mo-O Doping G-C3n4 Exfoliated Composite for Removal of Rhodamine B by Advanced Oxidation and Photocatalysis

Abstract:Fe-Mo-O doping g-C3N4 exfoliated composite was fabricated and characterized by XRD, FT-IR, UV-vis, SEM, TEM, XPS and N(2 )adsorption-desorption techniques. The as-prepared composite was composed of MoO3, FeMoyOx and exfoliated g-C3N4 crystals, and thus demonstrated high efficiency for degradation of Rhodamine B by advanced oxidation due to the rapid decomposition of H2O2 over the composite catalyst, giving 99 % degradation rate within oxidation time of 15 min. Also, it demonstrated high activity for photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B under visible light, achieving > 99 % degradation rate. The high catalytic activity for advanced oxidation and photocatalysis was mainly ascribed to the Fe/Mo dual ion synergy system that could effectively protect Fe (II), or heterojunctions on exfoliated g-C(3)N(4 )that could inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Moreover, the composite catalyst presented an excellent recovery and reusability for advanced oxidation and photocatalytic degradation.

Abstract:In this study, we address the pressing environmental issue of dye contamination in water sources by developing a novel photocatalyst for Rhodamine B degradation under visible light. Traditional photocatalytic materials often face limitations such as rapid activity loss and chemical instability, hindering their effectiveness in water treatment applications. To overcome these challenges, we designed an innovative heterostructure composite of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) coated with manganese dioxide (MnO 2 ) and nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH) 2 ), fabricated through metal-assisted chemical etching and optimized deposition of MnO 2 and Ni(OH) 2 . Key characterization techniques, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy, confirmed the morphology, crystallinity, and chemical states of the materials, affirming the composite's unique structure. The SiNWs/MnO 2 /Ni(OH) 2 heterostructure, particularly with a 1:1 ratio of MnO 2 to Ni(OH) 2 , demonstrated remarkable photocatalytic performance, achieving a 93% degradation efficiency for Rhodamine B within 120 min. This high efficiency is attributed to the synergistic interaction between MnO 2 and Ni(OH) 2 , which enhances charge separation and transfer processes. This work not only introduces a highly effective approach for environmental remediation but also advances the application of SiNWs-based heterostructures in sustainable water purification.

Abstract:The accelerating use of organic dyes in various industries has led to a surge in water pollution, especially from non-biodegradable dye effluents discharged into water resources. This study addresses the critical issue of catalyzing the reduction of two prevalent dyes, methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine-B (RhB), using a multiwalled carbon nanotube-cobalt ferrite (MWCNT-CF) nanocomposite. The synthesized nanocomposite demonstrates exceptional catalytic activity, stability, and recyclability. Conventional methods for treating dye-containing wastewater often prove expensive. This study explores the efficacy of catalytic reduction, a relatively fast process facilitated by semiconductor nanoparticles. Structural analyses using X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) confirm the formation of the nanocomposite, revealing unsaturated surface bonds and chains conducive to adsorption. The nanocomposite exhibits a remarkable reduction in both dyes, with easy recyclability for multiple cycles. Magnetization studies confirm the ferrimagnetic nature of the nanocomposite, facilitating its efficient separation from the reaction mixture using a magnet. The study delves into the kinetics of the catalytic reduction following pseudo-first-order kinetics. The surface modifications of the nanocomposite, as revealed by TEM, contribute to enhanced adsorption and catalytic efficiency. Notably, the MWCNT-CF nanocomposite demonstrates negligible loss of catalytic activity during recycling, highlighting its potential for cost-effective and sustainable applications in dye reduction across various industries.

Abstract:Industrial wastewater containing different organic, inorganic, and biological components has become a major issue as far as the sustainable growth of society is concerned. The presence of organic dyes in the effluents causes several health issues for both human and aquatic life. Herein pristine inorganic nanocomposite consisting of g-C3N4 and MoS2 (1:1 wt%) have been synthesized by a facile calcination method for adsorptive removal of selective rhodamine B (RhB) in aqueous solutions. Different characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, EDX, FTIR, XRD, BET, and Zeta potential have been studied to know the desired properties of the composite materials. The experiments were conducted by varying the dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, and pH to investigate the optimum removal performance of RhB by the prepared composite material. The composite nanomaterial showed fast adsorption, achieving nearly 92.0% removal in the first 15 min which was much higher than individual bare nanomaterials. BET surface area of 41.59 m2/g, structural changes as shown in SEM and zeta potential (-19.03 mV) also support the probable causes for this fast removal. The highest adsorptive removal percentage of RhB was observed to be 97.1% in 90 min at a pH of 7 with 20 ppm initial RhB concentration, and 1.0 g/L adsorbent dosage for the engineered nanocomposite material. The synthesized composite displayed satisfactory reusability performance, achieving nearly 70% removal of contaminant after four cycles. The isotherm, kinetic, and thermodynamic studies were also performed to understand the adsorptive performance characteristics of the nanocomposite materials. The system satisfied the Langmuir isotherm (R2 = 0.9839) and second-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.9999) which may corroborate the chemisorption behavior with monolayer formation of RhB on the material. In addition, the thermodynamic study observed the endothermic nature and spontaneous reaction process of the system.

On the diverse utility of Cu doped ZnS/Fe3O4 nanocomposites

Abstract:The global water crisis is a growing concern, with water pollution from organic dyes being a significant issue. Photocatalysis has emerged as a sustainable and renewable method for removing organic pollutants from wastewater. The study synthesized innovative (2.5, 5 and 10 wt%) Cu doped zinc sulfide/iron oxide nanocomposites using a sonochemical method, which have versatile applications in adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater. The nanocomposites underwent comprehensive characterization using powder X-ray diffraction, fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, Ultraviolet–Visible spectrophotometer, field emission scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Mott–Schottky analysis. The synthesized samples demonstrate strong adsorption ability to remove RhB and MB dyes. Afterward, we evaluated their capability to degrade Rhodamine B (RhB) dye under UV light exposure. The greatest photocatalytic efficiency was noticed when employing a UV-C lamp in combination with the 10 wt% Cu doped ZnS/Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite as photocatalyst (98.8% degradation after 60 min irradiation). The Langmuir–Hinshelwood model can be used to describe the pseudo first order kinetics of RhB dye photodegradation. The calculated ban gap values are 4.77, 4.67, and 4.55 eV, for (2.5, 5 and 10 wt%) Cu doped ZnS/Fe 3 O 4 , respectively. Furthermore, 10 wt% Cu doped ZnS/Fe 3 O 4 showed good recyclability, with a degradation rate of 89% even after five cycles. Consequently, prepared samples have outstanding photocatalytic activity and can be used as useful adsorbents in water purification.

Abstract:The researches on the development of novel powdery photocatalysts have been conducted for decades, yet their low reusability in suspension system is still the bottleneck which hinders their large-scale application. An alternative method to overcome this issue is developing magnetic recyclable photocatalytic composite. In this work, we fabricated copper-nitrogen co-doped titania/strontium ferrite/diatomite (CN-TSD) ternary composite via sol–gel route. The physicochemical properties of the composite were characterized and analyzed, and its photocatalytic activity was investigated via the decomposition of organic dye Rhodamine B and disinfection of bacteria Escherichia coli under visible light illumination. Charge transfer occurred at the heterojunction interface between titania and strontium ferrite lowered the recombination of charge carriers, and thus promoted photodecomposition efficiency. The photodecomposition rate was further accelerated by the high adsorption performance of diatomite, due to the adsorption and decomposition synergism between photocatalytic components and diatomite. The best doping amount and catalyst dosage are determined, and the corresponding catalyst sample showed its photo-decomposition percentage as 97.1% after 2.5 h, and showed its photo-disinfection percentage of 94.0% after 2 h. CN-TSD composite could simply be separated from waterbody via an external magnet. After five turns of repetition tests, only slightly decrease of decomposition or disinfection efficiency could be observed. This composite was promising to be applied in wastewater remediation process, due to its good visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity, as well as its good reusability and stability.
Synthesis of visible light responsive Ce0.2Co0.8Fe2O4/g-C3N4 composites for efficient photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B

Abstract:Unintentional leakage of dyes into the aquatic environment has exacerbated global contamination of water resources in recent years, posing a serious danger to aquatic life and human health. As a result, highly adaptable and effective measures are required to address the worldwide environmental challenge posed by dye usage. Herein, we have adopted hydrothermal technique to synthesize a visible light-induced catalyst based on the Ce0.2Co0.8Fe2O4/g-C3N4 composite. The catalysts were characterized in terms of their morphological, structural, and photoluminescence properties. The photocatalytic proficiency of the Ce0.2Co0.8Fe2O4/g-C3N4 composite was determined by its ability to degrade rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. Ce0.2Co0.8Fe2O4/g-C3N4 exhibited superior degradation potential, degrading RhB to 90.27 % in 60 min, compared to CoFe2O4/g-C3N4 (72.28 %), Ce0.2Co0.8Fe2O4 (64.45 %) and CoFe2O4 (56.63 %) under predetermined reaction conditions (catalyst dosage = 0.4 g/L, RhB concentration = 20 mg/L, pH = 7, T = 25 ± 1 °C). The substantial increase in photocatalytic potential was attributed mostly to the interfacial migration of photo-induced charge carriers from g-C3N4 to Ce0.2Co0.8Fe2O4, which may facilitate electron migration. The as-synthesized catalyst demonstrated outstanding stability in four successive cycles. This study may provide a low-cost approach for fabricating visible-light responsive catalysts for use in environmental remediation applications.

Abstract:We reported a novel nanocomposite of cuprous oxide nanospheres, three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide, and nano-chitosan (Cu2O@3D-rGO@NCS) with diverse functionalities by a feasible one-step in situ reduction synthesis. The photocatalytic ability of Cu2O@3D-rGO@NCS nanocomposite using the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) under simulated sunlight irradiation was accessed. The superior photocatalytic ability of Cu2O@3D-rGO@NCS compared to the pristine Cu2O nanospheres and Cu2O@3D-rGO nanocomposite, was attributed to high porosity from 3D-rGO, an efficient charge transfer from Cu2O to rGO, and high adsorption ability of NCS. The photodegradation efficiency toward rhodamine B (RhB) under simulated sunlight illumination was increased by approximately 68.2% and 46.8% when Cu2O@3D-rGO@NCS nanocomposite was used compared with the pristine Cu2O and Cu2O@3D-rGO nanocomposite, respectively. The recyclability results also demonstrated the excellent stability and reliability of the Cu2O@3D-rGO@NCS nanocomposite. The present work provides new insights into the synthesis and characterization of Cu2O@3D-rGO@NCS nanocomposite and its wide application in the environment protection issues.

Green engineered Mo-CeO 2 @C nanocomposites for visible light-assisted dye decomposition and microbial apoptosis

Abstract:The profound contamination of reservoirs triggered by industrial dyes and the growing phenomenon of antibiotic-resistant bacteria present substantial risks to both the environment and human health. Conventional approaches to water treatment and microbiological disinfection can frequently become ineffective, expensive, and detrimental to the environment, and this issue underscores the need for novel materials that possess refined photocatalytic and antibacterial characteristics that thrive efficiently in a setting of visible light. An innovative nanostructured nanocomposite, Mo-CeO 2 @C, was synthesized using a green chemistry method coupled with Mo-CeO 2 nanoparticles and pristine CeO 2 . The impact of Ce, Mo, and carbon-based nanocomposites has been validated by leveraging XRD, FTIR, UV–vis spectra, and FE-SEM/EDX. The sunlight-mediated photodegradation performance of carbon-based nanocomposite exhibited a superior photodegradation efficiency of 99.5 %, higher than others. The photocatalytic activity of M.B. dye concentration, catalyst dosage, scavenger test, and recyclability were also conducted, which confirm the optimal catalyst loading of 20 mg, dye concentration 40 ppm, and pH 8 with reusability up to six th cycles. The carbon-coated doped nanocomposite displays superior antibacterial efficacy against gram-positive S. aureus , gram-negative E. coli , and P. vulgaris bacteria in comparison to CeO 2 and Mo-doped CeO 2 . This may be attributed to the combined effects of the generation of reactive oxygen species (R.O.S.) and the intrinsic characteristics of the dopant and carbon matrix. The results of our research emphasize the potential of carbon-based nanoparticles as versatile agents in the realms of environmental rehabilitation and biomedical research. These nanoparticles provide a method to achieve more efficient and resilient solutions in these areas.

Abstract:This study introduces a novel Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 /Ag/AgCl/CdS nanocomposite, designed for the efficient photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO), serving as a proxy for synthetic water pollutants under visible light. A combination of co-precipitation, sol-gel, and photodeposition techniques was used to synthesize the desired nanocomposite. Leveraging the response surface methodology (RSM), we optimized the degradation process, achieving an unprecedented near-complete degradation efficiency of 99% within 90 min. The nanocomposite, characterized by an average diameter of 25 nm and uniform size distribution, demonstrated significant photocatalytic activity and stability, maintaining effectiveness over multiple usage cycles. Notably, the incorporation of Ag/AgCl alongside CdS not only extends the light absorption range but also facilitates charge separation, enhancing photocatalytic performance. Additionally, mineralization was confirmed by measuring the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) values. This work not only presents a significant advancement in the field of photocatalyst for water purification but also introduces a scalable and effective approach for the development of next-generation photocatalysts. Our findings highlight the potential of magnetic nanocomposites in environmental remediation, offering a sustainable solution for the degradation of organic pollutants.

Identification of the 11-cis-specific retinyl-ester synthase in retinal Müller cells as multifunctional O-acyltransferase (MFAT)

Abstract:Significance The noncanonical visual cycle permits sustained vision in daylight by providing chromophore precursor (11-cis-retinol) to cone photoreceptors at high rates. The isomerase of this pathway catalyzes equilibrium isomerization of retinol. At equilibrium, all-trans-retinol and 13-cis-retinol are strongly favored over 11-cis-retinol. A mechanism of mass action is hence required to drive production of 11-cis-retinol. Homogenates of cone-dominant retinas convert all-trans-retinol to 11-cis-retinyl esters, suggesting that secondary esterification of 11-cis-retinol drives production of 11-cis-retinoids for synthesis of chromophore. Here, we identified an enzyme, multifunctional O-acyltransferase (MFAT), that specifically esterifies 11-cis-retinol. MFAT acts cooperatively with isomerase-2 in Müller cells to drive production of 11-cis-retinoids. Thus, the energy of retinoid isomerization comes from hydrolysis of the thioester in an activated fatty acid by MFAT. Absorption of a photon by a rhodopsin or cone-opsin pigment isomerizes its 11-cis-retinaldehyde (11-cis-RAL) chromophore to all-trans-retinaldehyde (all-trans-RAL), which dissociates after a brief period of activation. Light sensitivity is restored to the resulting apo-opsin when it recombines with another 11-cis-RAL. Conversion of all-trans-RAL to 11-cis-RAL is carried out by an enzyme pathway called the visual cycle in cells of the retinal pigment epithelium. A second visual cycle is present in Müller cells of the retina. The retinol isomerase for this noncanonical pathway is dihydroceramide desaturase (DES1), which catalyzes equilibrium isomerization of retinol. Because 11-cis-retinol (11-cis-ROL) constitutes only a small fraction of total retinols in an equilibrium mixture, a subsequent step involving selective removal of 11-cis-ROL is required to drive synthesis of 11-cis-retinoids for production of visual chromophore. Selective esterification of 11-cis-ROL is one possibility. Crude homogenates of chicken retinas rapidly convert all-trans-ROL to 11-cis-retinyl esters (11-cis-REs) with minimal formation of other retinyl-ester isomers. This enzymatic activity implies the existence of an 11-cis-specific retinyl-ester synthase in Müller cells. Here, we evaluated multifunctional O-acyltransferase (MFAT) as a candidate for this 11-cis-RE-synthase. MFAT exhibited much higher catalytic efficiency as a synthase of 11-cis-REs versus other retinyl-ester isomers. Further, we show that MFAT is expressed in Müller cells. Finally, homogenates of cells coexpressing DES1 and MFAT catalyzed the conversion of all-trans-ROL to 11-cis-RP, similar to what we observed with chicken-retina homogenates. MFAT is therefore an excellent candidate for the retinyl-ester synthase that cooperates with DES1 to drive synthesis of 11-cis-retinoids by mass action.
A Facile Synthesis of Bi2O3/CoFe2O4 Nanocomposite with Improved Synergistic Photocatalytic Potential for Dye Degradation

Abstract:Semiconductor-based photocatalysis is a probable approach to overcoming many pollution problems and eradicating toxic organic materials from wastewater. This research endeavor aimed to explore the synergistic potential of different semiconductor nanocomposites for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in contaminated water. A facile hydrothermal approach was employed to synthesize bismuth oxide and cobalt ferrite nanoparticles from their precursors—bismuth nitrate pentahydrate, ferric chloride hexahydrate and cobalt chloride hexahydrate—with various concentrations and conditions to optimize the product. Subsequently, nanocomposites of bismuth oxide and cobalt ferrite were prepared by solid-state mixing in varying concentrations followed by calcination. UV/visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and elemental dispersive X-ray spectroscopic techniques have corroborated the successful synthesis of nanocomposites. The energy gaps of bismuth oxide and cobalt ferrite nanocomposites were computed in the range of 1.58–1.62 eV by Tauc plots. These nanocomposite materials were ascertained for photocatalytic potential to degrade methyl orange organic dye in water. A nanocomposite with equiquantic proportions has shown the best photocatalytic degradation activity, which may be attributed to the type-II band configuration and a synergistic effect, because Bi2O3 acts as an electron sink. This synergism has reduced the cogent band gap, hindered electron hole recombination and increased electron hole availabilities for photodegradation reactions, thus ensuing an efficient photodegradation co-work of Bi2O3/CoFe2O4 nanocomposites.

Abstract:This study investigates the synthesis of a magnetic Fe3O4@C nanocomposite for efficient RhB removal from wastewater. The nanocomposite shows high adsorption capacity and maximum removal efficiency of 100%, attributed to the magnetic and high surface area properties. Its adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo‐second‐order model, and it maintained performance over multiple reuse cycles. This study explores the controlled synthesis of a novel Fe3O4@C magnetic nanocomposite derived from FeBTC metal–organic framework (MOF) and its application as an efficient adsorbent for the removal of rhodamine dye from wastewater. The FeBTC MOF was first synthesized and then thermally decomposed in a controlled oxygen atmosphere at 375°C (1 h) to form the Fe3O4@C nanocomposite with a magnetic Fe3O4 core embedded in a porous carbon matrix. A comprehensive characterization of the nanocomposite was performed using x‐ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to confirm the successful formation and to evaluate its structural and morphological properties. The morphological investigation revealed that the particles of Fe3O4 had a spherical shape with diameter of 10–15 nm. The carbon coating appeared as a thin amorphous layer surrounding the Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The adsorption capacity of Fe3O4@C for rhodamine B (RhB) dye was assessed under various conditions, including different pH values, contact times, initial dye concentrations, and temperatures. Complete dye removal was attained in 45 min using 50 mg of the nanocomposite and 50 mL of 5.0 ppm RhB at the optimum pH of 9.1. Under the same experimental conditions, the highest adsorption capacity of 13.0 mg/g was obtained, but using 15.0 mg of the nanocomposite. Fe3O4@C nanocomposite exhibits high adsorption efficiency, with a maximum removal capacity of 100%, which is clearly superior to many conventional adsorbents. This performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects of the magnetic Fe3O4 and the large surface area of the carbon matrix. Kinetic models were employed to understand the adsorption mechanism. The adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo‐second‐order model. The reusability of the adsorbent was tested over multiple cycles and showed a minimal loss of performance (drops to 93.0% after five removal cycles). The study demonstrates that the Fe3O4@C nanocomposite is a promising candidate for the effective removal of organic dyes from wastewater, offering potential benefits for environmental remediation and sustainable water management.

Abstract:Dyeing wastewater is a carcinogenic pollutant, which is widely known for its harmful effects on humans and marine organisms. In this study, a novel composite was prepared by blending thiourea modified chitosan with zinc sulfide nanoparticles (T-CS/ZnS) to comprehensively remove methyl orange (MO), rhodamine B (Rh B), and methylene blue (MB) effectively. Characterization results suggested that the synthesized composite has an irregular and rough surface that provided high specific surface area for adsorption process, while the strong optical response and low bandgap width contributed to the subsequent photocatalytic degradation of adsorbed dye molecules. Under optimum experimental conditions, the removal rates of MO, Rh B, and MB were 99.59 %, 99.49 %, and 91.04 %, respectively. Amino and hydroxyl groups provide electrons in photocatalytic reactions. The reaction process is consistent with the quasi-first-order kinetic model, and the material has good stability and regeneration potential. This study indicated that T-CS/ZnS composite is a highly effective material for the treatment of dyeing wastewaters.

Abstract:Abstract In this study, new magnetic nanocomposites with shell core structure with different molar ratios of ZnS-CdS were synthesized and their photocatalytic activity in dye removal from synthetic and real effluents in the presence of mercury high pressure lamp as a visible light source was investigated. Optimal photocatalyst with molar ratio of ZnS-CdS 0.25:0.75 showed the best performance in dye removal. Based on the particle distribution histogram of Fe 3 O 4 @BNPs@ZnS-CdS (ZnS/CdS: 0.25:0.75), particles with 60–100 nm have the highest abundance. According to the DRS results, hybridization of zinc sulfide with cadmium sulfide reduced the gap and as a result, light absorption was successfully extended to the visible area. The PL results confirm that the optimal photocatalyst (Fe 3 O 4 @BNPs@ZnS-CdS) has the lowest electron–hole recombination compared to Fe 3 O 4 @BNPs@ZnS and Fe 3 O 4 @BNPs@CdS. It should be noted that according to the DLS results, the charge on the optical photocomposite surface is negative at all acidic, alkaline and neutral pHs. One of the significant advantages in this study is the use of high-pressure mercury lamps as a light source, so that these lamps are very economical in terms of economy and also have a long life and excellent efficiency. The optimal photocatalyst not only showed excellent photocatalytic activity for the removal of methylene blue (96.6%) and methyl orange (70.9%) but also for the dye removal of textile effluents (Benton 98.5% and dark olive 100%). Introduced magnetic heterostructures are suitable options for dye removal from textile and spinning wastewaters.
