Abstract:Objective The risk factors associated with iodine contrast extravasation immediately after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and subsequent hemorrhagic transformation within 24 hours remain unclear. Methods Mixed images, iodine overlay maps, and virtual non-contrast images were reconstructed from 106 consecutive acute ischemic stroke patients who underwent dual energy computed tomography immediately and 24 hours after EVT. Multivariate analyses of clinical and radiological data were performed to explore independent predictors of iodine contrast extravasation and hemorrhagic transformation. Results Sixty-eight (64.2%) patients exhibited pure iodine contrast extravasation after EVT; 30.9% developed hemorrhagic transformation within 24 hours after EVT. The number of stent retriever passes was independently associated with both iodine contrast extravasation (odds ratio 1.608; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.047–2.469) and subsequent hemorrhagic transformation (odds ratio 1.477; 95% CI 1.003–2.175). Patients with more than two stent retriever passes were more likely to exhibit iodine contrast extravasation (sensitivity = 68.2%, specificity = 81.5%), while those with more than three stent retriever passes more often exhibited hemorrhage after iodine contrast extravasation (sensitivity = 64.6%, specificity = 87.2%). Conclusions The number of stent retriever passes was an independent predictor for both iodine contrast extravasation and subsequent hemorrhagic transformation.
Small Peptide Analogue of SDF‐1α Supports Survival of Cord Blood CD34+ Cells in Synergy with Other Cytokines and Enhances Their Ex Vivo Expansion and Engraftment into Nonobese Diabetic/Severe Combined Immunodeficient Mice

Abstract:The SDF‐1/CXCR4 axis has been implicated in the chemotaxis, homing, mobilization, and expansion of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. We studied the effects of a SDF‐1 peptide analogue CTCE‐0214 on the survival of cord blood CD34+ cells in culture, expansion, and engraftment of expanded cells in the nonobese diabetic/severe combined immunodeficient (NOD/SCID) mouse model. Our results demonstrated that CTCE‐0214 synergized with thrombopoietin (TPO), stem cell factor (SCF), or flt‐3 ligand (FL) on the survival of stem and progenitor cells in culture. Adding CTCE‐0214 at a low concentration (0.01 ng/ml) for 4 days together with TPO, SCF, and FL significantly enhanced ex vivo expansion of CD34+ cells to subsets of primitive (CD34+CD38− cells, colony‐forming unit‐mixed [CFU‐GEMMs]), erythroid (CFU‐Es), myeloid (CFU‐GMs), and megakaryocytic (CD61+CD41+ cells, CFU‐MKs) progenitors, as well as their multilineage engraftment in NOD/SCID mice. Interestingly, the short exposure of expanded cells to CTCE‐0214 (100 and 500 ng/ml) for 4 hours did not increase the quantity of progenitor cells but enhanced their engraftment capacity. The proportion of CD34+ cells expressing surface CXCR4 was decreased, but the overall number of this population increased upon expansion. The small peptide analogue of SDF‐1 could be developed for ex vivo expansion and improving engraftment of cord blood transplantation.
Association Between Contrast Volume-to-Creatinine Clearance Ratio and the Risk of Perioperative Myocardial Infarction after Elective Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Abstract:Although the use of iodinated contrast for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has known toxicity issues, the association between the contrast volume-to-creatinine clearance (V/CrCl) ratio and perioperative myocardial infarction (PMI) is unclear. The present study is aimed to investigate the predictive value of V/CrCl ratio on the incidence of PMI, and to determine a relatively safe contrast media V/CrCl ratio cut-off value to prevent PMI undergoing elective PCI. The V/CrCl ratio were obtained from 5970 patients undergoing elective PCI for single-vessel lesions. Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) were measured at baseline, 8, 16, and 24 hours after PCI. PMI was defined as postprocedural > 5 × upper limit of normal. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were performed to identify the optimal sensitivity for the V/CrCl range. Multivariate regression model were used to assess the association between V/CrCl ratios and PMI. Eight hundred and ninety-seven patients (15.0%) developed PMI. There was a significant association between higher V/CrCl ratio and the development of PMI (P < 0.001 for the trend). ROC curve analysis indicated that V/CrCl ratio of 2.05 was a discriminator for PMI (area under the curve = 0.674). After adjusting for other potential risk factors, V/CrCl ratio > 2.05 remained significant associated with PMI (odds ratio, 1.921; 95% confidence interval, 1.311-2.815; P = 0.001). The finding of this study suggests the importance of minimizing the contrast media dose to avoid PMI development. Use of a contrast media dose based on renal function with a V/CrCl value < 2.05 might be valuable in preventing PMI.

Abstract:With the increasing use of endovascular technology in the treatment of various conditions, there has been an inevitable rise in cases with extravasation of contrast medium. We present a case in which extravasation of a large quantity of contrast medium resulted in acute communicating hydrocephalus. A 78-year-old woman came to the hospital because of abnormal right-sided limb movement, and was diagnosed with occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. The patient underwent timely intra-arterial mechanical thrombectomy. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) examination revealed a high-density shadow of the left basal ganglia and left frontal lobe. Twelve hours later, the patient fell into a coma. Repeat head CT indicated acute hydrocephalus with no evidence of obstruction. The patient underwent emergency external ventricular drainage, and the drainage fluid was observed to be clear. The patient regained consciousness after the procedure and the drainage tube was removed 4 days later. The patient had no recurrence of hydrocephalus. The mechanisms and treatment of this condition are discussed.

Abstract:An absorptive half-moon aperture mask is experimentally explored as a broad-bandwidth means of eliminating spurious spectral features arising from reprocessed radiation in an infrared Fourier transform spectrometer. In the presence of the spatial filter, an order of magnitude improvement in the fidelity of the spectrometer baseline is observed. The method is readily accommodated within the context of commonly employed instrument configurations and leads to a factor of two reduction in optical throughput. A detailed discussion of the underlying mechanism and limitations of the method are provided.
Implications of iodinated contrast media extravasation in the emergency department

Abstract:Purpose: To characterize the management, outcomes, and emergency department (ED) length of stay (LOS) following iodinated contrast media extravasation events in the ED. Methods: All ED patients who developed iodinated contrast media extravasation following contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) from October 2007-December 2016 were retrospectively identified. Medical records were reviewed and management, complications, frequency of surgical consultation, and ED LOS were quantified using descriptive statistics. The Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to compare ED LOS in patients who did and did not receive surgical consultation. Results: A total of 199 contrast extravasation episodes occurred in ED patients during the 9-year study period. Of these, 42 patients underwent surgical consultation to evaluate the contrast extravasation event. No patient developed progressive symptoms, compartment syndrome, or tissue necrosis, and none received treatment beyond supportive care (warm/cold packs, elevation, compression). Median ED LOS for patients who did and did not receive surgical consultation was 11.3h versus 9.0h, respectively (p<0.01). Conclusion: Close observation and supportive care are sufficient for contrast extravasation events in the ED without concerning symptoms (progressive pain/swelling, altered tissue perfusion, sensory changes, or blistering/ulceration). Routine surgical consultation is likely unnecessary in the absence of these symptoms - concordant with the current American College of Radiology guidelines - and may be associated with longer ED LOS without impacting management.
Documentation of the Fouling Community in Pearl Harbor and its Response to Novel Coatings

Abstract:Abstract : Our long-term research objective is to understand the processes that lead to settlement and fouling by marine species on surfaces immersed in the ocean. This understanding is crucial to the design of coatings that resist or release fouling in environmentally benign ways. To this end, we provided field testing in Pearl Harbor Naval Station for non-toxic antifouling or foul-release coatings under development in cooperating labs. We developed and implemented the first bioassays with tropical species for lab screenings and the new test procedure, the turbulent duct. We have implemented and published on the appropriate statistical analyses for fouling communities and characterization of the physical properties of coatings. All of this work was geared to take advantage of the real-world setting of our test site in Pearl Harbor that challenges coatings with high rates of year-round settlement by 10 distinct functional groups of tropical species, highlighting the common foulers, Hydroides elegans and Enteromorpha flexuosa and other model species of Balanus and Ulva. These efforts insure that coatings being developed will perform well in the tropical Pacific and other warm water regions.
[Heart rate variability in offspring of hypertensive parents].

Abstract:UNLABELLED The aim of the study was the assessment of power spectrum of heart rate variability in young people with family history of hypertension. The study included healthy subjects in their second or third decade of their life. According to the family history of hypertension, the following groups were specified: group A--both parents hypertensive (n = 30, age = 24.5 +/- 4.0 years), group B--only one parent hypertensive (n = 94, age = 24.1 +/- 5.1 years) and group C--both parents normotensive (n = 35, age = 25.9 +/- 7.4 years). METHODS HRV analysis was performed using CardioPSA System, Medatec, Belgium. In every person, 30 minute ECG was assessed: 15 min.lying, 15 min standing. For data analysis Fast Fourier transform was used, total variability, LF (0.04-0.15 Hz) and HF (0.15-0.40, Hz) components were calculated. We observed similar values of HRV components in all groups. Subjects with family history of hypertension showed however a tendency towards higher LF values in lying position. Standing caused in all groups decrease of total variability, increase of LF component and decrease of HF component. Changes were less pronounced in subjects with both parents hypertensive. Young adults with both parents hypertensive have shown a tendency towards higher values of LF component and less pronounced changes of HRV components after standing up.
Intravenous contrast extravasation during CT: a national data registry and practice quality improvement initiative

Abstract:Purpose: Establish 3 performance benchmarks for intravenous contrast extravasation during CT examinations: extravasation frequency, distribution of extravasation volumes, and severity of injury. Evaluate the effectiveness of implementing practice quality improvement (PQI) methodology in improving performance for these 3 benchmarks. Methods: The Society of Abdominal Radiology and ACR developed a registry collecting data for contrast extravasation events. The project includes a PQI initiative allowing for process improvement. Results: As of December 2013, a total of 58 radiology practices have participated in this project, and 32 practices have completed the 2-cycle PQI. There were a total of 454,497 contrast-enhanced CT exams and 1,085 extravasation events. The average extravasation rate is 0.24%. The median extravasation rate is 0.21%. Most extravasations (82.9%) were between 10 mL and 99 mL. The majority of injuries, 94.6%, are mild in severity, with 4.7% having moderate and 0.8% having severe injuries. Data from practices that completed the PQI process showed a change in the average extravasation rate from 0.28% in the first 6 months to 0.23% in the second 6 months, and the median extravasation rate dropped from 0.25% to 0.16%, neither statistically significant. The distribution of extravasation volumes and the severity of injury did not change between the first and second measurement periods. Conclusions: National performance benchmarks for contrast extravasation rate, distribution of volumes of extravasate, and distribution of severity of injury are established through this multi-institutional practice registry. The application of PQI failed to have a statistically significant positive impact on any of the 3 benchmarks.
Variations in bridge construction in commercial laboratories.

Abstract:Identical working models for the construction of a porcelain bonded to metal three unit fixed bridge were sent to 30 different commercial dental laboratories in the United Kingdom. The material was sent from general dental practice addresses with the implication for treatment under the National Health Service. Each bridge on its return was examined for acceptability using subjective criteria based on clinical and technical factors. There was a wide variation between bridges which gave cause for concern. Lack of a satisfactory prescription for the laboratories to work to must have played a part in this variation. However, it is stressed that the prescription used in this work was deliberately chosen as representative of that which may be used by clinicians.
Epidemiology of contrast-induced nephropathy after computerized tomography

Abstract:Objective To investigate the prevalence of contrast-induced nephropathy(CIN) in patients using intravenous contrast medium for CT examination,and to explore the risk factors relating to CIN.Methods Inpatients with CT examination in Peking University People's Hospital from January 2010 to June 2010 were studied retrospectively.We investigated the prevalence of CIN,and the risk factors for CIN were also characterized by using univariate and multifactor regression analyses.Results A total of 261 patients were involved in this study,of whom 7.7% patients developed CIN.Comparing with non-CIN group,CIN group showed higher rates of hypotension and liver cirrhosis.Multifactor regression analysis demonstrated that hypotension was the independent risk factor for CIN.Conclusion CIN was not uncommon in inpatients using low osmolarity contrast medium for CT examination.Hypotension was recognized as the independent risk factor after controlling the factors of renal function and contrast medium dose.
Extravasation of radiographic contrast material and compartment syndrome in the hand: a case report.

Abstract:Radiocontrast agents are a type of medical contrast material used to improve the visibility of internal bodily structures in X-ray based imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) or radiography. Radiocontrast agents are typically iodine or barium compounds.Extravasation of contrast is a possible complication of imaging studies performed with contrasts. Most extravasations cause minimal swelling or erythema, however, skin necrosis, ulceration and compartment syndrome may occur with extravasation of large volumes of contrast.A case report is presented in which significant extravasation of contrast was caused while injecting the contrast intravenously into the back of the hand of a 50 year old patient during computed tomography. The patient was undergoing chemotherapy. The patient developed a compartment syndrome and a fasciotomy was required. Treatment options are outlined and emphasis is made on prevention of this iatrogenic complication.Some of the preventive measures to avoid these complications include use of non-ionic contrast (low osmolarity), careful choice of the site of intravenous administration, and close monitoring of the patient during injection of contrast to minimize or prevent extravasation injuries. Clear information to patients and prompt recognition of the complication can allow for other non-surgical treatment options than the one required in this case.
A Prospective Study on the Risk of Contrast Induced Nephropathy in the Patients Who Underwent Contrast-Enhanced CT Examination

Abstract:Objective To investigate the incidence of contrast induced nephropathy (CIN) among different patient groups after contrast agent injection.Methods A total of 1243 patients were included in this study (male =694,female =549).The SCr level one week before and 72 hours after the CT examination and the incidence of CIN were recorded and comparison was made among groups according to sex,age,body mass index (BMI),the history of high blood pressure (HBP),diabetes mellitus (DM),chronic kidney disease (CKD),chronic heart failure (CHF),tumor,nephrotoxicity drug (NTD) usage.The frequency,type,dose and injection velocity of the contrast media(CM)were also recorded.Multivariate predictors of CIN were identified by Logistic regression using step-wise selection with entry and exit criteria of P ＜0.10,results were tabulated as odds ratios (OR) with 95％ confidence intervals (CI).Results Among 1243 consecutive patients,the incidence of CIN was 5.5％ (68/1243).Patients with a history of HBP,DM,CHF,CKD or tumor presented with higher incidence of CIN than that of controls (5.9％,51/868 vs.4.5％,17/375).CIN developed in 9 of 203 patients (4.4％,9/203) with CKD and in 59 of 1040 patients (5.7％,59/1040)without CKD.There was no significant difference between the two groups(x2 =0.51,P =0.30).In CKD (-) group,the incidence of CIN was higher in females,patients with DM and patients using LOCM than those of males,DM (-) and using low osmolality contrast medium (IOCM) (P ＜ 0.05),but there was no statistical significance in CKD (+) group.Logistic regression analysis showed that women,age ≥ 75 years,DM,LOCM,NTD,tumor,the time of using CM more than once per month were the most significant predictors of CIN (OR ＞ 1).Conclusion Women,age ≥ 75 years,LOCM,NTD,tumor,and the frequency of using CM more than once per month were more likely to develop CIN.
Application value of high-pressure-resistant peripherally inserted central catheters in enhanced computer tomography of diabetic patients with malignant tumors

Abstract:BACKGROUND Individuals with diabetes mellitus have a higher risk of developing malignant tumors, and diagnosing these tumors can be challenging. AIM To confirm the benefits of using peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) in contrast-enhanced computerized tomography (CECT) for diagnostic imaging in diabetic patients with malignant tumors and to provide a research basis for follow-up research. METHODS This retrospective study analyzed 204 diabetic patients with malignancies treated at The Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, from January 2024 to June 2024. The patients were divided into two groups: A control group (n = 102) with indwelling peripheral intravenous catheters and a research group (n = 102) with high-pressure-resistant PICC. The study compared baseline data, the incidence of iodine contrast extravasation during CECT, the incidence of adverse events (discomfort, redness and swelling at the puncture site, and blood oozing), imaging quality, nursing time, intubation success rate, number of venipuncture attempts, and catheter maintenance cost. RESULTS Male patients accounted for 51.96% in the control group and 55.88% in the research group; the average age was (59.68 ± 11.82) years in the control group and (61.41 ± 12.92) years in the research group; the proportions of lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and gastric cancer patients in the control group were 42.16%, 38.24%, and 19.61%, respectively, while those in the research group were 34.31%, 37.25%, and 28.43%, respectively. Except for the gender distribution, age, and cancer type mentioned above, other general information such as underlying diseases, puncture location, and long-term chemotherapy shows no significant differences as tested (P > 0.05). The results showed that the research group had significantly reduced incidence of iodine contrast extravasation (7 vs 1, P = 0.031), similar incidence of adverse events (11 vs 7, P = 0.324), reduced nursing time [(18.50 ± 2.68) minutes vs (13.26 ± 3.00) minutes, P = 0.000], fewer venipuncture attempts [(2.21 ± 0.78) times vs (1.49 ± 0.58) times, P = 0.000], lower catheter maintenance cost [(1251.79 ± 205.47) China yuan (CNY) vs (1019.25 ± 117.28) CNY, P = 0.000], increased intubation success rate (16.67% vs 58.82%, P = 0.000), and better imaging quality (85.29% vs 94.12%, P = 0.038). CONCLUSION High-pressure-resistant PICCs can lessen the physical burden of diabetic patients during nursing, reduce treatment costs, and improve the efficiency and quality of imaging for diagnosis malignant tumors.

Squeeze maneuver: an easy way to manage radiological contrast-medium extravasation

Abstract:Background: Contrast-medium extravasation injuries may be self-limited to catastrophic. Adequate prophylactic measures are enforced when risk factors for extravasation are present, and prompt treatment can avoid serious complications. Purpose: To describe the squeeze maneuver, an effective method for the treatment of symptomatic contrast-medium extravasation. Material and methods: Over a 3-month period, eight patients with >50 ml contrast-medium extravasation resulting in vascular compromise of the fingers were managed with the squeeze maneuver as follows. The intravenous catheter used for contrast-medium injection was removed, and the skin around the insertion site was cleaned with povidone-iodine. An 18-gauge needle was then used to puncture five to eight openings near the catheter insertion site as deeply as possible. We then began squeezing from the periphery of the swelling toward the needle holes. As the contrast medium drained, it was swabbed away with iodine-soaked cotton swabs. Results: In all eight patients, the maneuver was successful with immediate resolution of the vascular compromise. Conclusion: The squeeze maneuver provides an easy way to manage radiological contrast-medium extravasation and can be performed immediately in the CT suite.
Drug Extravasation in a Large General Hospital in Hunan, China: A Retrospective Survey

Abstract:Background and aim: Drug extravasation is one of the most common complications of intravenous therapy, which can lead to severe tissue injury if inappropriately treated. This study analyzes the current situation of extravasation and the risk factors affecting the severity of extravasation to provide a theoretical basis for carrying out prospective research, reducing the severity of drug extravasation, and strengthening the management of drug extravasation. Materials and methods: We retrieved the data on extravasation from January 2016 to December 2020 from the hospital's safe infusion management system. We used nonparametric tests to assess the differences in the severity of drug extravasation among each variable and performed a multivariate analysis using multivariate ordered logistic regression. Results: Extravasation occurred in 0.038% (263/694,043) of patients, including 203 cases of mild extravasation (77.2%), 57 cases of moderate extravasation (21.7%), and 3 cases of severe extravasation (1.1%). The main diseases of the patients with extravasation were cancer (24.7%), neurological-related diseases (19.4%), circulatory-related diseases (14.8%), and digestive-related diseases (14.1%); the main extravasated drugs were hypotonic or hypertonic drugs (31.9%) and contrast media (27.8%); the infusion tools of extravasation were indwelling needles (92.0%) and steel needles (8.0%). The multi-factor analysis showed that close to joints, patients' age ≤6 or age >65, cancer, neurological-related diseases, circulatory-related diseases, antineoplastic agents, hypotonic or hypertonic drugs and strong acid or alkali drugs were independent risk factors for more severe extravasation. The nurses' age and first identified by nurse were nurse-related factors that influenced the severity of drug extravasation. Conclusion: To prevent the occurrence of drug extravasation and reduce its severity, the nurses should strengthen the learning of emergency plans related drug extravasation, strengthen inspections of high-risk patients. Besides, the managers should strengthen the risk warning management of high-risk extravasated drugs.

Abstract:BackgroundSymptoms of an adverse reaction to contrast agents for computed tomography are diverse ranging, and sometimes serious. The goal of this study is to create a scoring rule to predict adverse reactions to contrast agents used in computed tomography.MethodsThis was a retrospective cohort study of all adult patients undergoing contrast enhanced CT scan for 7 years. The subjects were randomly divided into either a derivation or validation group. Baseline data and clinically relevant factors were collected from the electronic chart. Primary outcome was any acute adverse reactions to contrast media, observed for during 24 hours after administration. All potential candidate predictors were included in a forward stepwise logistic regression model. Prediction scores were assigned based on β coefficient. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn, and the area under the curve (AUC) and incidence of acute adverse reactions at each point were obtained. The same process was performed in the validation group.Results36,472 patients underwent enhanced CT imaging: 20,000 patients in the derivation group and 16,472 in the validation group. A total of 409 (2.0%, 95% CI:1.9-2.3) and 347 (2.1%, 95% CI:1.9-2.3) acute adverse reactions were seen in the derivation and validation groups. Logistic regression analysis revealed that prior adverse reaction to contrast agents, urticaria, an allergic history to drugs other than contrast agents, contrast agent concentration >70%, age <50 years, and total contrast agent dose >65 g were significant predictors of an acute adverse reaction. AUC was 0.70 (95% CI:0.67-0.73) and 0.67 (95% CI:0.64-0.70) in the derivation and validation groups.ConclusionsWe suggest a prediction model consisting of six predictors for acute adverse reactions to contrast agents used in CT.

Abstract:Calcium influx plays a critical role in GnRH regulation of rat LH subunit gene transcription, but the site(s) of action are undefined. We investigated the potential of GnRH acting through calcium to activate calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase type II (Ca/CaMK II) in mouse gonadotrope-derived LbetaT2 cells. GnRH stimulated Ca/CaMK II beta subunit activity 3-fold 2 min after treatment and returned to control values by 45 min. The Ca/CaMK II response to GnRH was blocked by administration of the Ca/CaMK II-specific inhibitor, KN-93. The calcium channel activator Bay K 8644 stimulated a 3-fold increase in Ca/CaMK II activity, similar to GnRH. Blocking calcium influx with nimodipine or depleting intracellular calcium storage pools with thapsigargin each resulted in a partial suppression of GnRH-induced activation of Ca/CaMK II, and in combination, completely suppressed the Ca/CaMK II response to GnRH. KN-93 and nimodipine also suppressed alpha-subunit and LHbeta promoter responses to GnRH by 40-60%. LHbeta promoter constructs containing either proximal or proximal and distal GnRH-responsive regions were sensitive to inhibition. These data show for the first time that Ca/CaMK II activation plays an important role in the transmission of GnRH signals from the plasma membrane to the LH subunit genes.
Prevalence of Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Undergoing Contrast-Enhanced CT Angiography at a Tertiary Care Centre

Abstract:BACKGROUND Multimodal Computed Tomography (CT) imaging with contrast-enhanced CT angiography (CTA) is frequently being used to guide the management of acute ischemic stroke. The administration of contrast media (CM) may lead to nephrotoxicity. However, little has been reported about the safety of intravenous CM exposure in acute stroke patients. This study aims to evaluate whether there is a significant change in renal function following contrast agent administration, determine the proportion of patients developing contrast-induced acute kidney injury(CI-AKI), and analyze the risk factors associated with the same. METHODS We analysed 138 patients with acute ischemic stroke who underwent emergency CTA at our centre, followed up on the renal parameters and prospectively evaluated them for the development of CI-AKI. The patients who developed CI-AKI were analysed for specific risk factors and categorized into risk groups based on a pre-validated risk score. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was done to identify independent predictors of CI-AKI. RESULTS CI-AKI occurred in 19 patients (13.7%). Significant (p<0.001) changes in renal parameters were observed following contrast administration irrespective of whether it satisfied the criteria for CI-AKI. Most of the patients had a low-risk score for CI-AKI. The predicted risk of CI-AKI based on the Mehran Risk Score (MRS) was similar to that observed in our study population. No patient had to be on haemodialysis. Raised baseline S.creatinine(p-value<0.03), Diabetes with microangiopathy(p-value<0.001), and systemic hypertension(p-value<0.001) were significant predictors for CI-AKI. CONCLUSIONS The development of renal sequelae is low in acute ischemic stroke patients undergoing contrast imaging. Prompt CTA, if indicated, need not be delayed in those with no history of renal impairment or without relevant risk factors. A practical reflection of this study is to be cognizant of the renal risks that an in-patient stroke population is exposed to as Intravascular depletion, infections(urinary tract infections, pneumonia), and nephrotoxic medications.
