Abstract:Objective To observe the levels of Foxp3+ CD+ CD25+ regulatory T cells in the peripheral blood of condyloma acuminatum (CA) patients and investigate their roles in the pathogenesis of CA. Methods The peripheral blood was collected from 30 CA patients (including 15 with relapsing and 15 with first onset) and 20 healthy controls. Peripheral blood mononuclear ceils (PBMC) were isolated and stained with anti-human CD4-PE-Cy5 and anti-human CD25-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) monoclonal antibodies on cell membrane, followed by intraeellular staining with anti-human Foxp3-PE. The percentage of Foxp3+ CD4+-CD25+ regulatory T cells was detected by three-color flow cytometry. Comparison between groups was done by ANOVA test. Results The percentages of Foxp3+ CD4+ CD25+ regulatory T cells among total CD4 + T cells in CA patients and relapsing CA group were (3.4 ± 1.0) % and (4.7 ±+ 1.2) %, respectively, which were both significantly higher than that in healthy control group [(1.2±0. 5)%, P<0.01]. Furthermore, that in first onset CA group was (2. 1 ± 1.0) %, which was higher than that in healthy control group, but without statistical significance; but that in relapsing CA group was significantly higher than that in first onset group (P<0.05). Conclusions The number of Foxp3+ CD4+ CD25+ regulatory T cells increases in the peripheral blood of CA patients. The disorder of cellular immunity may be involved in the immunopathogenesis of CA.
[Detection of Peripheral Blood Th1/Th2 and Tc1/Tc2 Subsets in Patients with Condyloma Acuminatum and Its Significance].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the role of T-helper (Th) and cytotoxic T (Tc) lymphocyte polarization in the pathogenesis of condyloma acuminatum (CA) and its correlation with recurrence.METHODS:Three-colour immunofluorescent flow cytometry was used to detect the proportion of CD3+ CD8- /IFN-gamma+ (Th1), CD3+ CD8- /IL-4+ (Th2), CD3+ CD8+/IFN-gamma+ (Tc1) and CD3+ CD8+ /IL-4+ (Tc2) cells in the peripheral blood of CA patients and health controls.RESULTS:Compared to health controls, CA patients showed a decreased number of Th1 (P < 0.01) and Tc1 cells (P < 0.05), as well as a decreased Th1/Th2 and Tc1/Tc2 ratio (P < 0.05). Furthermore, in 15 recurrent CA patients the ratio of Th1/Th2 was remarkably decreased (P < 0.01), while the ratio of Tc1/Tc2 had no significant change in comparison with health controls.CONCLUSION:The decrease of Th1 and Tc1 subsets results in relative Th2 and Tc2 predominance, and this tendency is more significant in recurrent CA patients. The Th1 to Th2 and Tc1 to Tc2 shifts in CA patients could be responsible for the fact that human papilloma virus (HPV) is hard to be eliminated.
Expression of Toll-like receptors in the lesions of condyloma acuminatum

Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of Toll-like receptors(TLRs) in condyloma acuminatum(CA) lesions and their possible roles in the pathogenesis of CA. Methods The expressions of TLR1-10 mRNA level in the lesions of CA and in the cervix scrape cells from the patients with human papillomavirus(HPV) negative chronic cervicitis were detected by real-time quantitative fluorescent PCR. HPV typing was detected by HPV GenoArray test kit. Results Low-risk HPV type 6 and type 11 were the most prevalent types in the forty CA cases with positive rate of 77.5% and 55% respectively. 55% CA patients were found infected with more than two types of HPV. 35% CA patients were concurrently infected with high-risk HPV. The expressions of TLR3, 7, 8 mRNA were higher than other TLRs and the expression of TLR9 mRNA was lower than others in the lesions of CA. No significant differences of the TLR1-10 mRNA levels were found between HPV6 and HPV11 positive CA lesions, so did it between low-risk and high-risk HPV concurrent infected CA lesions. The expressions of TLR1-3, TLR5-8, TLR10 mRNA, especially TLR2, TLR7 and TLR8 in the lesions of CA were significantly higher than that in cervix scrape cells of HPV negative chronic cervicitis. There were no significant differences of TLR4 and TLR9 mRNA levels between the two groups. Conclusion There were higher expressions of some TLRs (3, 7, 8) and lower expression of TLR9 in the lesions of CA. Compared with HPV negative chronic cervicitis, the expressions of TLR1-3, TLR5-8, TLR10 mRNA in the lesions of CA were up-regulated. The expression profile of TLRs in different type of HPV infected CA lesions had no significant differences. Our results suggested that the expression profile of TLRs in CA may be associated with the HPV infection. Abstract:Objective To detect cytokine levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum of patients with condyloma acuminatum and investigate their role in disease recurrence.Methods ELISA was used to study TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum of 73 patients with condyloma acuminatum and 30 healthy volunteers.Of the 73 patients,44 were nonrecurrent cases and 29 were recurrent condyloma acuminatum cases.TNF-α and IL-6 in the serum of both recurrent and nonrecurrent patients were detected Results Compared with healthy controls,patients with condyloma acuminatum showed a decreased level of TNF-α and IL-6(<I>P</I><0.01).TNF-α and IL-6 were significantly lower in patients of recurrent group in comparison with nonrecurrent group(<I>P</I><0.05).Conclusion Low level of TNF-α and IL-6 in patients with condyloma acuminatum may be an important cause of disease development and recurrence.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the role of interleukin(IL)18 and interferon gamma (IFN-Gamma) in the pathogenesis of condyloma acuminatum(CA).METHODS:Double antibody sandwich ELISA was used to measure the levels of IL-18 and IFN-Gamma in serum of 30 cases of CA.RESULT:The serum levels of IL-18 and IFN-Gamma of the CA patients were significantly higher than those of normal controls IL-18 132.00 +/-52.92 microg/L compared with 50.79 +/- 23.48 microg/L, P<0.01 IFN-Gamma:80.83 +/-20.46 microg/L compared with 20.71 +/-11.18 microg/L P <0.01) and IL-18 levels were positively correlated with IFN-Gamma concentrations (r=0.754, t=6.081, P <0.01).CONCLUSION:These data suggest that during infection of human papilloma viruses, anti-infective immune responses are activated.

Abstract:Background. Condyloma acuminatum (CA) is a disease that appears as proliferative lesions of the genital epithelium caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The balance between type 1 and type 2 T-cell subsets in patients with CA is thought to modulate antiviral immunity. CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) inhibit proliferation and cytokine production by both T-helper (Th) 1 and Th2 cells and reversibly suppress CTL-mediated immunity. A better understanding of the mechanisms of T-cell regulation in CA might help in developing more effective therapeutic strategies. Objective. To evaluate the balance of Th1/Th2 and Tc1/Tc2 and to assess their correlation with changes in number of Tregs in CA. Methods. The percentage of Th1, Th2, Tc1, Tc2 and Tregs were detected by flow cytometry after intracellular staining for cytokines (interferon-gamma and interleukin-4) and Foxp3 of T lymphocytes in the peripheral blood of 30 patients and 20 healthy volunteers. Results. Patients with CA showed a decreased proportion of Th1 and Tc1 cells and a decreased ratio of Th1/Th2 and Tc1/Tc2. In particular, strikingly decreased ratios of Th1/Th2 were found in 15 patients with relapsed CA (P < 0.01). The mean +/- SD number of Foxp3+CD4+CD25+ Tregs increased significantly in patients with CA (3.37 +/- 1.03%) and patients with relapsed CA (4.68 +/- 1.17%) compared with healthy controls (1.18 +/- 0.53%) (P < 0.001). Conclusion. Tregs appear to downregulate cytokine expression in both Tc1 and Th1 subsets of effector T cells, which may be responsible for antivirus responses.
The Effect of the Crude Extracts from Condyloma Acuminata Lesions on the Expressions of IL-12 and IFN-γ

Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of the crude extracts from condyloma acuminata(CA) lesions on the expressions of IL-12 from dendritic cells(DCs) and IFN-γ from T cells. Methods In-vitro generated DCs were pulsed with LPS,crude extracts from CA lesions,crude extracts from foreskin and PBS solution,respectively.Subsequently DCs were incubated with T cells at different ratios for 2～14 days.The amounts of the cytokines IL-12 and IFN-γ in the supernatants were determined by ELISA. Results High levels of IL-12(P70)(262.0±18.5 pg/mL) and IFN-γ(494.3±48.8 pg/mL) were detected in LPS group.Modest levels of IL-12(P70)(146.0±38.0 pg/mL) and IFN-γ(392.0±39.7)pg/mL were detected in CA group.Low levels of IL-12(P70)(12±5.2 pg/mL) and IFN-γ(0 pg/mL) in foreskin group and IL-12(P70)(12.0±5.2 pg/mL) and IFN-γ(0 pg/mL) in PBS group were detected.The levels of IL-12 and IFN-γ were significantly higher in CA and LPS groups than the ones in PBS group and foreskin group(P0.05).Conclusion Our data provide insight in the high immunogenic potential of CA extracts in vitro and could help in the future to design better vaccination strategies for immunotherapy of CA.
Clinical Significance of Measurement of Serum IL-2, IL-6 and TNF-α Levels Before and after Treatment in Patients with Condyloma Acumimatum

Abstract:To study the changes of serum IL-2,IL-6 and TNFα levels before and after treatment in patients with condyloma acuminatum,the IL-2,IL-6 and TNF-α levels in 42 patients and 30 healthy controls were measured by RIA and ELISA respectively.The results showed that the TNF-α level in patients was extremely higher than that in control group(P0.01).IL-2 and IL-6 levels in patients were extremely lower than those in control group(P0.01).After treatment 6 months,the TNF-α level in patients was still higher than that in control group(P(0.05));the IL-2 and IL-6 levels in patients were still lower than those in control group(P(0.05)).It suggested that condyloma acuminatum patients may have some autoimmunedeficincy.

Abstract:Objective To explore the expression of human papillomavirus (HPV) 6/11,16/18,31/33 group and tyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHP-2) in condyloma acuminatum (CA) tissue remodeling.Methods HPV 6/11,16/18,31/33 group and SHP-2 were detected in skin lesions of 36 patients with condyloma acuminatum, tumor tissues of 13 cases of cervical cancer and normal foreskin tissue of 10 normal controls by in situ hybridization and SP immunohistochemical stain.Results The positive rates of HPV 6/11,16/18,31/33 group in condyloma acuminatum and cervical cancer were 80.5%,38.9%,36.1% and 69.2%,38.4%,53.8% respectively.The results showed that the expression of HPV 6/11,16/18,31/33 group in condyloma acuminatum and cervical cancer were significantly higher than those in normal epidermis (P0.05).The positive expression rates of phosphorylated tyrosine and SHP-2 in condyloma acuminatum and eerviaal cancer were 97.2%,22.2% and 100%,0%,respectively.However the cytoplasm of normal foreskin showed negative expression. Conclusion There is an aberrant activation of phosphorylated tyrosine and SHP-2 in condyloma acuminatum and cervical cancer. SHP-2 may play an important role in the HPV infection.
Expression level and significance of Src-homology2 domain phosphatase-1 and -2 in condyloma acuminatum

Abstract:Objective To investigate the different expression pattern of Src-homology2 domain phosphatase (SHP)-1 and SHP-2 in human papiilomavirus (HPV)6/11 infected condyloma acuminatum (CA) and the significance of the difference. Methods HPV6/11 related CA cases were diagnosed by in situ hybridization. The expression and distribution of SHP-1 and SHP-2 were examined by SP immunohistochemistry technique in skin samples from 40 HPV 6/11 positive CA cases and 20 healthy control (foreskins). Results The positive rates of SHP-1 and SHP-2 were 80% and 85% respectively in CA, which were significantly higher than those in healthy control cases (only 35% and 30%, respectively, X2=11.87,P<0.01; X2 =18. 15,P<0. 01) . The SHP-1 and/or SHP-2 positive cells in CA skin lesions were mainly distributed in prickle layer, showing as brown yellow, with the positive staining located in cytoplasm. Contrastively, the SHP-1 and/or SHP-2 positive cells in healthy controls were rare and mainly distributed in basal layer, showing as pale yellow with the positive staining located in cytoplasm. There was no significant correlation between the expression of SHP-1 and SHP-2 in CA( rs = 1.0, P>0.05 ). Conclusion The expressions of SHP-1 and SHP-2 increase in HPV6/11 positive CA, which suggest that with the infection of HPV6/11, SHP-1 and SHP-2 may play a regulatory role in the proliferation of keratinocytes.
Toll Like Receptor Agonists Augment HPV 11 E7-specific T Cell Responses by Modulating Monocyte-Derived Dendritic Cells

Abstract:Impaired local cellular immunity is one of the mechanisms responsible for condyloma acuminatum (CA) recurrence. The activation of dendritic cells (DCs) is important in vaccine development. We investigated the effect of different toll like receptor (TLR) agonists including LPS (TLR4 agonist), polyinosinic acid-polycytidylic acid (PIC, TLR3 agonist), CpG oligonucleotide (TLR9 agonist), and imiquimod (TLR7 agonist) on human monocyte-derived dendritic cells (mdDCs) loading of human papillomavirus (HPV) type 11 E7 epitope. As a result, we found that mdDCs loading HLA-A*0201-restricted HPV 11 E7 CTL epitope peptide could respond to the TLR agonists, especially LPS and PIC. This was characterized by an enhanced expression of CD40, CD80, CD86, CD83 and HLA-DR, and a high level of IL-12 production. TLR agonists, especially PIC, enhanced the ability of E7-loaded mdDCs to induce IFN-γ-secretion CD4 + naïve T cells. Moreover, E7-loaded mdDCs exposed to TLR agonists augmented autologous T cell responses including effector cytokines production and specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses. In addition, the inhibitory effect of IL-10 on mdDCs maturation could be partially restored by LPS, PIC or imiquimod. Taken together, these results demonstrate that TLR agonists promoted the maturation of E7-loaded mdDCs and their ability to induce T help type 1 polarization and augment E7-specific T cell responses. These data also indicated that TLR3/4 agonists might be effective adjuvants of mdDC-based vaccines against CA.
Significance of SHP-1 and SHP-2 Expression in Human Papillomavirus Infected Condyloma acuminatum and Cervical Cancer

Abstract:Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are a group of DNA viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes. Type HPV6/11 is closely related to Condyloma acuminatum , while HPV16/18 is the principal cause of cervical cancer. In this study, we examined the expression of protein tyrosine phosphatases SHP-1 and SHP-2 in Condyloma acuminatum , cervical cancer and the relationship between SHP-1/SHP2 expression and HPV infection. Forty Condyloma acuminatum cases, 20 cervical cancer cases and 20 normal human foreskins were examined for HPV infection by in situ hybridization and the expression of SHP-1 and SHP-2 were examined by immunohistochemistry. Results demonstrated that positive expression rates of HPV6/11, HPV16/18, and HPV31/33 were 98%, 10%, and 7.5% in Condyloma acuminatum , 10%, 85%, and 25% in cervical cancer. Only one normal foreskin demonstrated positive staining for HPV16/18. Positive expression rates of SHP-1 and SHP-2 were 80% and 85% in Condyloma acuminatum , 85% and 90% in cervical cancer. The SHP-1 and SHP-2 expressions were mainly distributed in the prickle layer of Condyloma acuminatum and were diffusely distributed in cervical cancer cells. Only 35% and 30% of foreskins demonstrated weak staining in the basal layer cells. There were statistically significant correlations among the infection of HPV and the expression of SHP-1 and SHP-2 in both Condyloma acuminatum and cervical cancer ( P < 0.05). SHP-1 expression has a positive correlation with SHP-2 expression. Our results demonstrate putative roles of SHP-1 and SHP-2 in the progression of both Condyloma acuminatum and cervical cancer after HPV infection.

Abstract:Objective: To study the expression of activated epi-dermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and transcrip-tion factor E2F (E2F) in Condyloma Accuminata(CA)patients. Methods: Immunofluorescent techniques were usedto investigate the expression of activated EGFR andE2F in CA patients. Results: The expression of activated EGFR on themembrane of epithelial cells in CA lesions was sig-nificantly greater compared to expression levers inthe control group (P0.01). Moreover, the co-expres-sion of activated EGFR and E2F was significantly in-creased compared to the control group (P0.01). Conclusion: Our observations suggest that the in-crease in activated EGFR expression may stimulatehyperplasia in CA patients through the activation oftranscription factor E2F.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the abnormal expression of signal transducers and activators of transcription 1(Stat 1)and Src-homology 2 domain phosphatasel(SHP-1)in JAK/STAT route of condyloma acuminatum(CA)and its significance.MethodsHPV6/11 related CA was diagnosed by in situ hybridization;the expression and distribution of Stat 1 and SHP-lwere examined by SP immunohisto- chemistry in 40 specimens from CA patients positive for HPV 6/11 and 20 normal skin specimens (fore- skins).ResultsThe expression of both Stat 1 and SHP-1 was significantly higher(both P＜0.01) in CA lesions than that in normal epithelium.The Stat 1-and SHP-1-positive cells were mainly distributed in prick- le layer of HPV 6/11 related CA lesions.The positive signal of Stat 1 was located in the cytoplasm or nucle- i,and that of SHP-1 was mainly distributed in the cytoplasm.There was a significant correlation(P＜0.01)between the expression of Star 1 and that of SHP-1 in HPV 6/11-related CA lesions.Conclusion The expression of Stat 1 and SHP-1 is increased in HPV6/11 positive CA lesions,which suggests that HPV6/11 may play a role in the over-proliferation of keratinocytes through JAK/STAT route.

Abstract:Objective To explore the expression of suppressor of cytokine signaling-1(SOCS1) and protein inhibitor of activated STAT-1(PIAS1)in keratinocytes of condyloma acuminatum(CA) lesions and its significance.Methods SP immunohistochemistry technique was used to detect the expres- sion and distribution of SOCS1 and PIAS1 in lesions from 40 cases of CA and 20 cases of cervical cancer, and in skin(foreskins)of 20 normal controls.Results In CA lesions,SOCS1 and PIAS1 were stained brown-yellow in the cytoplasm of keratinocytes,and positive cells were mainly distributed in the prickle layer. In cervical cancer,they were also stained brown-yellow and diffusely distributed in the cytoplasm of carcino- ma cells.In normal skin,SOCS1 and PIAS1 weakly expressed in the cytoplasm of keratinocytes in basal layer, and were stained pale yellow.The positive rates of both SOCS1 and PIAS1 were significantly higher in CA lesions than in normal skin(85% vs 30%,χ~2=18.15,P0.01;80% vs 35%,χ~2=11.87,P0.01). Although the positive rates of SOCS1(90%)and PIAS1(85%)in cervical cancer were higher than those in CA,no significant difference was found between them(both P0.05).There was no significant corre- lation between the expression of SOCS1 and PIAS1 in CA lesions(r_s=0.14,P0.05).Conclusion SOCS1 and PIAS1 may play a role in the overproliferation and malignant transformation of keratinocytes in CA lesions.

Results②The expression of NF-k B and c-myc was significantly higher in keratinocytes of CA lesions than those of normal controls (P＜0.01 ).NF-k B was mainly expressed in spinous layers of CA lesions, and most positive signals located significantly in the cytoplasm.C-myc was mainly expressed in the whole epidermis or in spinous and basal layers in CA lesions,and positive signals located in the nuclei.②There was a positive correlation between the expression of NF-k B and c-myc in CA lesions (r=0.89,P＜0.01).Conclusions The study demonstrates that the expression of both NF-k B and c-myc is significant- ly higher in HPV 6/11 positive CA than in normal skin.The data suggest that transcriptional factor NF-k B and c-myc may play a role in the regulation of proliferation of HPV 6/11 infected cells.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze and discuss the correlation between the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in patients with condyloma acuminatum and cellular immune function as well as the recovery of their immune functions after treatment with BCG-Polysaccharide nucleic acid ,so as to provide clinical basis for prevention and treatment of condyloma acuminatum ,and reducing of the recurrence rate .METHODS Totally 124 patients with condyloma acuminatum hospitalized from Jan 2012 to March 2013 were selected to analyze their HPV infections as well as expression of CD4 + and CD8 + T lymphocytes ;meanwhile ,80 healthy examinees were selected as a control group;after the patients were treated with electric cauterization for the removal of the verrucous body and intramuscular injection of the BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid ,the expression of CD4 + and CD8 + T lymphocytes were detected ,then the percentage of CD4 + and CD8 + T as well as ratio difference of CD4 + to CD8 + T were comparatively analyzed;the nucleic acid rapid hybridization genotyping reagents were used to test the HPV infections in patients with condyloma acuminatum ;SPSS16 .0 software was adopted for statistical analysis . RESULTS For patients with condyloma acuminatum ,the percentages of CD3 + and CD4 + T lymphocytes and ratio of CD4 + to CD8 + T were (59 .70 ± 10 .10)% ,(33 .10 ± 9 .20)% ,and 1 .19 ± 0 .28 respectively ,significantly lower than (69 .40 ± 8 .30)% ,(44 .20 ± 10 .30)% ,and 1 .67 ± 0 .24 in the adults (P< 0 .05);for the samples of exfoliated cells selected from 124 patients with condyloma acuminatum ,119 cases of HPV-DNA were detected ,with a positive rate of 95 .97% ,among which HPV6 is the highest (47 .06% );after the 119 HPV-DNA positive patients with condyloma acuminatum were treated with the BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid ,the peripheral blood CD3 + and CD4 + T lymphocytes and ratio of CD4 + to CD8 + were significantly increased than those before treatment ,while the CD8 + T lymphocyte was significantly lower (P<0 .05) .CONCLUSIONS The imbalance of cellular immune function in patients with condyloma acuminatum becomes increasingly evident with the process of disease ,leading to HPV immune escape and easily causing recurrence of condyloma acuminatum .Treatment of condyloma acuminatum with the immune modulators such as the BCG-polysaccharide nucleic acid can effectively improve the immune functions of the patients .

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of polysaccharide nucleic acid fraction of bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG-PSN) on peripheral blood CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ regulatory T (Treg) cells in patients with condyloma acuminatum (CA).Methods Forty-two patients with first onset of CA were randomly assigned to receive either injection of BCG-PSN (0.35 mg every other day for 3 months) after fulguration (combination group,26 patients),or fulguration only (fulguration group,16 patients).Venous blood samples were obtained from all the patients at the initial visit and three months after the beginning of treatment,as well as from 30 healthy checkup examinees.The percentage of peripheral Treg cells in CD4+ T lymphocytes was determined by flow cytometry.The recurrence of CA was evaluated during the three months after the beginning of treatment.Results The percentage of peripheral Treg cells in CD4+ T lymphocytes was significantly higher in patients with CA than in the controls (8.31％ ± 1.24％ vs.5.15％ ± 0.72％,P ＜ 0.01),and in patients with clinical recurrence of CA than in those without (9.34％ ± 0.72％ vs.7.45％ ± 0.85％,P ＜ 0.01).The recurrence rate was significantly lower in the combination group than in the fulguration group (30.77％ vs.68.75％,P ＜ 0.05).After three months of treatment,the combination group showed lower percentage of Treg cells in CD4+ T cells compared with the fulguration group (5.87％ ± 1.05％ vs.6.60％ ± 0.75％,P ＜ 0.05).Conclusions The percentage of Treg cells has a close relationship with the progression of CA,i.e.,the higher the percentage,the more frequent the relapse.BCG-PSN may enhance the antiviral immune response in patients with CA and improve their prognosis by reducing the number of Treg cells.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the possible roles of Langerhans cells(LCs) and plasmacytoid dendritic cells(pDCs)in the pathogenesis of condyloma acuminatum(CA). Methods Tissue specimens were obtained from the lesions of 23 patients with CA and from perilesional normal skin of 13 of the 23 patients. The expressions and distribution of CD1a, CD2AP and CD123 were analyzed using the streptavidin-peroxidase (SP) immunohistochemical method. Statistical analysis was carried out to compare the density and percentage of CD1a + LCs, CD2AP + pDCs and CD123 +pDCs between lesional skin and perilesional normal skin. Results Most CD1a + LCs were observed in the prickle cell layer of the epidermis, and a few in the papillary layer of the dermis. There was no significant difference in the density or percentage of CD1a+ LCs in the epidermis or dermis between the lesional and perilesional skin specimens (all P > 0.05). CD2AP + pDCs and CD123 + pDCs were distributed mainly in the papillary layer of the dermis, and their density and percentage were significantly higher in the lesional than in the perilesional skin specimens (all P < 0.05). Conclusion Human papillomavirus infection may affect the quantity of pDCs but not LCs in local mucous membranes.
Effect of the Integrated Traditional Medicine and Western Medicine on Condyloma Acuminatum

Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of the integrated traditional medicine and western medicine on condyloma acuminatum. Methods Sixty patients with condyloma acuminatum were divided into experimental group and control group, with 30 patients in each group. The patients in both groups were treated by CO 2 laser. In the experimental group, the patients were given smoking and washing of lesions with Chinese medicinal herbs and intramuscular injection of Siqikang. After treatment for 36 d, patients were followed up for six months. The serum IL-2 of the patients was examined before and after the treatment. ResultsThe relapse rate in the expermental group was significantly lower than that in control group (P0.05) and the serum IL-2 was significantly elevated (P0.05)Conclusions Our study showed that Chinese medicinal herbs plus Siqikang can effectively prevent the relapse of condyloma acuminatum. Its effects include its local anti-viral action and ability to improve local and general immunity.
