Abstract:Rational design of profitable structure is widely considered as an effective strategy for electromagnetic wave absorbing materials (EWAMs) to improve their performance. Herein, we conduct a combined engineering of hollow and core-shell structures, in which surface shell is formed by a number of MoS2 nanosheets crossing each other and internal core is hollow carbon microcapsule (HC). HC has strong dielectric loss ability, and its hollow structure facilitates the multiple reflection of incident EM wave. The construction of MoS2 shells not only improves impedance matching but also introduces heterogeneous interfaces that result in interfacial polarization loss. It is found that the synergistic effect of intrinsic loss mechanisms and structural advantages endow C@MoS2 composites (HCM-x) with excellent EM wave absorption performance, and especially for HCM-2, whose minimum reflection loss (RL) intensity and effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) are −63.8 dB and 6.0 GHz, respectively. It is believed that this work is valuable for the enhancement of performance for EWAMs through the upgrade of microstructure and regulation of chemical composition.

Abstract:This review introduces the current trends in metal–organic framework (MOF)‐derived electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials in detail. Rationally designed architectures and cropped microstructures for boosting the EMW absorption performance are discussed. The composition–structure–performance relationships of engineered MOF‐derived materials are summarized. Future challenges and design strategies for MOF‐derived EMW absorber materials are provided. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derivatives are developing family of functional materials for electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. Their tailored structures, controllable compositions, high porosity, and versatile functions offer immense advantages for the construction of excellent EMW absorption materials. Nevertheless, it is crucial and challenging to understand the unique role of rationally designing art and tailoring the microstructures of MOF‐derived materials for EMW absorption. In this review, advances in rational architectural design strategy and the elaborate control of microstructures are outlined to promote the EMW absorption performance of MOF‐derived materials. In addition, the derived key information regarding the superiority and composition–structure–performance relationships of the engineered MOF‐derived materials with advanced components and nanostructures is comprehensively summarized. Finally, the insight into the challenges of future development in MOF‐derived EMW absorption materials is presented.
Hierarchical porous molybdenum carbide synergic morphological engineering towards broad multi-band tunable microwave absorption

Abstract:With the accelerating development of electronic technology, how to effectively eliminate electromagnetic radiation pollution has become a critical issue. Electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials have an irreplaceable position in the field of military stealth as well as in the field of electromagnetic pollution control. In order to cope with the complicated electromagnetic environment, the design of multifunctional and multiband high-efficiency EMW absorbers remains a daunting challenge. In this work, a hierarchical porous molybdenum carbide matrix with a three-dimensional porous structure was designed by salt melt synthesis (SMS) strategy. Furthermore, the relationship between the structure and the impedance matching performance was explored by stepwise modification via ultrathin layered MoS 2 nanoflakes. Analysis indicates that the extent of modification of hierarchical porous molybdenum carbide by MoS 2 nanoflakes modulates the dielectric performance due to differences in morphology and the introduction of heterogeneous structures, along with a dramatic impact on the impedance matching performance. In particular, the prepared MS/MC/PNC-2 composite exhibits a reflection loss (RL) of -55.30 dB at 2.4 mm, and an ultra-broad effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 7.60 GHz is obtained at 2.0 mm. The coordination of structure and component enables the absorber to exhibit strong absorption, wide bandwidth, thin thickness, and multi-band absorption characteristics. Noticeably, the effective absorption performance in the broadband for X and Ku is also satisfying, as well as possessing moderate marine anti-corrosion performance. This study contributes to an in-depth understanding of the relationship between impedance matching and EMW absorber performance and provides a reference for the design of multifunctional, multiband microwave absorbing materials.

Toward Enhancing Performance of Electromagnetic Wave Absorption for Conductive Metal-Organic Frameworks: Nanostructure Engineering or Crystal Morphology Controlling

Abstract:Conductive metal-organic frameworks (cMOFs), which have high porosity and intrinsic electron conductivity, are regarded as ideal candidates for electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials. Controlling the nanostructure of absorbers may be one of the effective strategies to improve the electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption performance. Herein, a series of conductive Cu-HHTP MOFs (HHTP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenyl hydrates) with different nanostructures or crystal morphologies were successfully synthesized by using different structural inducers to regulate the changes in the morphology, thereby improving the EMW absorption performance. Specifically, when ammonia was used as an inducer, the obtained A-Cu-HHTP with a nanosheet structure exhibited excellent EMW absorption performance. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) can reach -51.08 dB at 7.25 GHz with a thickness of 4.4 mm, and the maximum effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) can cover 5.73 GHz at 2.5 mm. The influence of the nanostructures of the cMOFs on the dielectric and EMW absorption performance was clarified. The nanosheet structure of A-Cu-HHTP increases its specific surface area, which expands multiple scattering and reflection paths of incident EMW; Meanwhile, the unique structure facilitates the formation of more heterogeneous interfaces, optimizing impedance matching. The significant improvement in EMW performance is mainly attributed to multiple reflections and scattering as well as impedance matching. This work not only provides a simple and effective strategy for improving electromagnetic wave absorption performance but also offers guidelines for preparing morphology functional cMOF materials.
MOFs-derived hollow Copper-based sulfides for optimized electromagnetic behaviors

Abstract:The preparation of hollow materials is one of the most feasible ways to obtain efficient electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers. Herein, using the copper-based metal-organic frameworks (Cu-MOF-74) as templates, hollow copper-based sulfides with various morphologies (rod-like, cubic, and dodecahedral) were designed and synthesized. The outer Cu2S and/or Cu31S16 shell possesses excellent electronic conductivity and abundant heterogeneous interfaces, while the inner hollow cavity endows the absorbers with lightweight characteristics and good impedance matching according to the Maxwell-Garnett (MG) theory. Accordingly, the effective absorption bandwidth reaches 6.2 GHz at 2.3 mm with 20 wt% filler loading, exhibiting superior performance compared with the vast majority of previous MOFs derived absorbers. Furthermore, our study can serve a guide to construct hollow structured nanocomposites to tune electromagnetic parameters and strengthen EMW absorption properties.

Abstract:At present, metal—organic framework (MOF)-derived nano—micro architectures are actively explored for electromagnetic (EM) wave absorption owing to their flexible composition and structural manipulation that enhance dielectric and magnetic attenuations. However, the basic design principles in MOF-derived microwave absorption materials have not been summarized. This review is devoted to analyzing design principles in MOF-derived microwave absorption materials from the following perspectives: diverse monomers (ligands and ions of MOFs), topologies, chemical states, and physical properties. The derived essential information regarding the EM wave absorption mechanism and the structural—functional dependency is also comprehensively summarized. Finally, a clear insight into the challenges and perspectives of the industrial revolution upgrading in this promising field is proposed.

Construction of Hierarchical Yolk-Shell Co/N-Dope C@void@C@MoS2 Composites with Multiple Heterogeneous Interfaces toward Broadband Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

Abstract:The synthesis of materials with a multicomponent hierarchical structure is an essential strategy for achieving high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. However, conventional design strategies face challenges in terms of the rational construction of specific architecture. In this study, we employ a combined space-restricted and hierarchical construction strategy to surface-plant MoS2 nanosheets on yolk-shell structural carbon-modified Co-based composites, leading to the development of high-performance Co/NC@void@C@MoS2 absorbers with advanced architecture. The surface-planted MoS2 nanosheets, the Co/NC magnetic yolk, and the dielectric carbon shell work together to enhance the impedance matching characteristics and synergistic loss capabilities in the composites. Experimental results indicate that Co/NC@void@C-700@MoS2 exhibited the best absorption performance with an effective absorption bandwidth of 7.54 GHz (at 2.05 mm) and a minimum reflection loss of -60.88 dB (at 1.85 mm). Furthermore, radar cross-section simulation results demonstrate that Co/NC@void@C-700@MoS2 effectively suppresses the scattering and transmission of EMWs on perfect electric conductor substrates, implying its superior practical application value. This study provides inspiration and experimental basis for designing and optimizing EMW absorption materials with hierarchical yolk-shell architecture.
Metal Valence State Modulation Strategy to Design Core@shell Hollow Carbon Microspheres@MoSe2/MoOx Multicomponent Composites for Anti-Corrosion and Microwave Absorption

Abstract:The exploitation of multicomponent composites (MCCs) has become the main pathway for obtaining advanced microwave absorption materials (MAMs). Herein, a metal valence state modulation strategy is proposed to tune the electromagnetic (EM) parameters and improve microwave absorption performances. Core@shell hollow carbon microspheres@MoSe2 and hollow carbon microspheres@MoSe2/MoOx MCCs with various mixed-valence states content are well-designed and produced by a simple hydrothermal reaction or/and heat treatment process. The results reveal that the thermal treatment of hollow carbon microspheres@MoSe2 in Ar and Ar/H2 leads to the in situ formation of MoOx and multivalence state, respectively, and the enhanced content of Mo4+ in the designed MCCs greatly boosts their impedance matching characteristics, polarization, and conduction loss capacities, which lead to their evidently improved EM wave absorption properties. Amongst, the as-prepared hollow carbon microspheres@MoSe2/MoOx MCCs achieve an effective absorption bandwidth of 5.80 GHz under a matching thickness of 1.97 mm and minimum reflection loss of -21.49 dB. Therefore, this work offers a simple and universal method to fabricate core@shell hollow carbon microspheres@MoSe2/MoOx MCCs, and a novel and feasible metal valence state modulation strategy is proposed to develop high-efficiency MAMs.

The obtained results revealed that the designed hollow carbon spheres@MoS x Se 2− x MCNCs presented the improved sulfur vacancy concentration by regulating the x value from 0.2 to 1.0. The obtained hollow carbon spheres@MoS x Se 2− x MCNCs displayed the extraordinary comprehensive EMWAPs because of the introduced abundant defects and excellent interfacial effects. Abstract:The development of lightweight and efficient electromagnetic wave (EW) absorbing materials is of great strategic significance in military and civilian fields. Recently, hollow metal organic frameworks (MOFs) derived porous carbon hybrids have received widespread attention in high-performance absorbers owing to their adjustable structures and abundant components. Herein, this perspective focus on the merits of MOFs derived hollow carbon hybrids for electromagnetic wave absorption, and the regulation principles including defect engineering, heterointerfaces optimization, hybridization optimization and structural regulation are combed. Moreover, the main construction strategies of hollow MOFs and their derivatives are briefly summarized by discussing several iconic achievements. Finally, the current critical challenges and future trends are presented.

Herein, hierarchical metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived Co/C@V2 O3 hollow spheres were designed and synthesized through a facile hydrothermal, precipitation, and pyrolysis method. The composite exhibits both excellent impedance matching and light weight due to the rational combination of hollow V2 O3 spheres and porous Co/C. Additionally, multiple components enable a large dielectric and magnetic loss of the composite, giving rise to enhanced EM wave absorption performance with a maximum reflection loss (RL) of -40.1 dB and a broad effective absorption bandwidth (RL < -10 dB) of 4.64 GHz at a small thickness of 1.5 mm. This work provides insights into the design of hierarchical hollow and porous composites as thin and lightweight EM wave absorbers with efficient absorption, which can also be extended to energy storage, catalysis, and sensing.
Boosting Multiple Loss by Hierarchical Nano-Architecture with Manipulation of Interfacial Charge Redistribution in Mott–Schottky Heterostructures for Enhanced Electromagnetic Absorption

Abstract:The regulation of the interfacial electric field plays a pivotal role in magnifying the electromagnetic energy attenuation capability during the design and synthesis of efficient and tunable absorbers for electromagnetic waves (EMW). Herein, a rational and universally applicable two-step hydrothermal method strategy was proposed to effectively control the electronic structure of Mott-Schottky EMW absorbing materials derived from Co-MOF. The as-synthesized Co3S4@MoS2/NC ensures efficient electron transfer, while the change redistribution leads to the emergence of additional electric dipoles under an external EMM field. In addition, the hierarchical Co3S4@MoS2/NC nano-architecture with a hierarchical arrangement in 2D and 3D offers more polarization sites, thereby extending the path for EMW transmission through multiple reflections and scattering. The potential to enhance the EMW absorption performance of Co3S4@MoS2/NC lies in its unique microstructure and substantial surface area, which optimize impedance matching properties through a synergistic effect of dipole and interfacial polarization induced by Mott-Schottky heterointerfaces. As anticipated, the Co3S4@MoS2/NC exhibits a maximum EMW absorption capacity with an RLmin value of -41.97 dB and a broad EAB of 4.24 GHz at a thickness of 2.0 mm. This study provides insights for designing highly efficient Mott-Schottky EMW absorbing materials at the molecular level rationally.
Hollow Engineering in CoNi@Air@C@MoS2 Multicomponent Composites Derived from Bimetallic CoNi Prussian Blue Analogs for Ultra-Wide Bandwidth and Strong Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

Abstract:In recent years, two-dimensional layered transition metal dichalcogenides-based multicomponent composites (MCCs) acting as electromagnetic wave (EMW) materials have received intensive investigations. However, the vulcanication of metal greatly hindered their enhancement of EMW absorption performances (EMWAPs). Herein, a combined metal-organic frameworks-derived and hydrothermal strategy was presented to produce yolk-shell structure (YSS) CoNi@Air@C@MoS2 MCCs. The results showed that the thermal and hydrothermal treatments resulted in the generation of YSS and two-dimensional MoS2 nanosheets, which maintained the original morphology of CoNi Prussian blue analogues. The protection of thick C layer well inhibited the vulcanization of inner CoNi alloy. The formed sheet-like MoS2 further optimized impedance matching characteristics, which led to the satisfactory EMWAPs of CoNi@Air@C@MoS2 MCCs. Furthermore, the EMWAPs could be further improved by optimizing the Ni:Co atom ratios CoNi@Air@C@MoS2 MCCs, which stemmed from their boosted impedance matching performances, EMW attention and polarization loss abilities. The absorption bandwidth and reflection loss values for YSS CoNi@Air@C@MoS2 MCCs are 8 GHz and -60.83 dB, which covered almost all C-Ku bands. In general, our research work provided a valid strategy to produce YSS magnetic CoNi@Air@C@MoS2 MCCs with high efficiency, which well avoided the vulcanization of metal nanoparticles, made best of hollow engineering and atomic ratio optimization strategy to boost the comprehensive EMWAPs. Abstract:Improving the electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption capability at the thin thickness of heterostructures is critical but remains a great challenge. Here, we propose a MoO 3 @ZIF-67 core-shell heterostructure derived molybdenum trioxide- molybdenum carbide/ carbon (MoO 3 -MoC/) coupled heterostructure with a one-dimensional (1D) short rod-like structure for EMW absorption. A strong connection is constructed between nanoparticles (NPs) and MoO 3 -MoC specie due to the pyrolysis strategy and in situ reaction between MoO 3 nanobelts and ZIF-67 rhombic dodecahedrons. The abundant heterointerfaces between N-doped carbon (NC) and metallic Co, NPs and MoC species, NPs and MoO 3 nanobelts, as well as MoC and MoO 3 nanobelts improve the interfacial polarization. Abundant defects, such as N heteroatoms and oxygen vacancies, are also established in the MoO 3 -MoC/ coupled heterostructure. As a result, the MoO 3 -MoC/ coupled heterostructure inherits excellent EMW absorption performance with a reflection loss ( R L ) value of -64.3 dB at a thickness of 3.875 mm, outperforming many advanced EMW absorbers. This work shows the great potential of strong connections and abundant interfaces in heterostructure for improvements of EMW absorbers.

Atomic Tuning in Electrically Conducting Bimetallic Organic Frameworks for Controllable Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

Abstract:Conductive MOFs, M3(HITP)2, are applied directly in electromagnetic wave absorption (EMW) for the first time. A bimetallic MOF strategy is developed to improve EMW performance significantly by fine‐tuning the ratio between metals at the molecular level. This work lays a foundation for high efficiency of pristine MOF EMW‐absorbing materials, which is of milestone significance. Due to the structural complexity and limited controllability of conventional microwave‐absorption materials (MAMs), the precise regulation of atomically‐resolved structures and properties of MAMs remains a significant challenge. The interpretation of the dielectric loss mechanism is usually conduction and polarization losses, while the absence of components‐regulated template materials further hinders the disclosure of the mechanism. Herein, based on the customizable functionality of the MOF platform, a series of pristine bimetallic MOFs with precise and controllable conductivity are successfully constructed through the bimetallic alloying strategy. The controllability is attributed to the alteration of free‐carrier concentration and the subtle difference of interlayer displacement or spacing, both of which originate from the atomic tuning of hetero‐metal. Notably, Cu1.3Ni1.7(HITP)2 features an ultra‐high absorption strength (reflection loss, RL = −71.5 dB) and an ultra‐wide maximum bandwidth (6.16 GHz) at only 15% filling, which ranked in the upper range of all reported MAMs. Due to the metal co‐synergies, Cu1.3Ni1.7(HITP)2 possesses a switchable high absorption peak in a wide range (4–18 GHz). This work opens up an avenue for tailoring the atomic tuning of new MOF‐based electromagnetic wave absorbers and provides a conceptually novel platform.

Abstract:Cigarette smoking is a well known primary risk factor of myocardial infarction. Many studies have shown that it is also a secondary risk factor able to predict the short and medium term occurrence of reinfarction and mortality. A number of observational studies suggest that patients who survive a first myocardial infarction have a halved risk of dying or of recurrence as compared to those who continue to smoke. Presently it is estimated that about 80% of smokers surviving a myocardial infarction quit smoking in short time. The intervention against smoking habits must be primarily conducted using advice and psychological means by the physician, with the help of other health personnel and of the social support of the family and friends.
MOFs-derived hollow materials for electromagnetic wave absorption: prospects and challenges

Abstract:Designing and preparing hollow nanomaterials is one of the most feasible ways to obtain the high-performance electromagnetic wave absorber. To this end, Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), featuring regular crystalline structures with coordinated metal nodes and organic linkers, have won the widespread attention. Here, the recent progress in the study of MOFs-derived hollow materials for electromagnetic wave absorption are summarized and discussed. Some remarkable examples in the synthesis of hollow structures from MOFs precursors are illustrated in terms of the preparation methods and structural architectures. Thereafter, their characteristics and advantages as electromagnetic wave absorber are analyzed and demonstrated. Finally, it summarizes the current achievements, limitations, and urgent challenges, and provides some views on potential solutions and possible future trends.
