Abstract:Carcinoma planoepitheliale of larynx is the most common cancer present in the upper part of the respiratory system. The molecular mechanism of this cancer generation is unknown and there is no a specific marker for its early diagnosis. The properties, physiological function, as well as the results of studies on genetic polymorphism indicate that glutathione-S-transferase (GST) may play an important role in etiology of this cancer. In the present work the studies on expession of GST isoenzymes pi, alfa, mu4, and mu5 in larynx cancer (carcinoma planoepitheliale laryngis) were performed. Specimens of larynx cancer and their corresponding normal adjacent tissues were obtained from patients by surgery. Expression was studied on the level of mRNA using RT-PCR method. The results indicated raised expression of GST pi (the major isoform in larynx) and lowered expression of GSTs mu4 and alfa in cancer as compared with the control tissue. No expression of GST mu5 was observed in tumor and normal larynx tissues. Obtained results indicate various mechanism in regulation of GSTs expression in cancerous and normal larynx tissues. They also indicate a special role of GST pi in larynx carcinogenesis.
EMpowerment of PArents in THe Intensive Care: A multicentre validation study in Japan

Abstract:Background: The importance of assessing family satisfaction in paediatric intensive care units (PICUs) is becoming increasingly recognised. The survey, EMpowerment of Parents in THe Intensive Care "EMPATHIC-30", was designed to assess family satisfaction and has been translated and implemented in several countries but not yet in Japan. Objectives: The objective of this study was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the EMPATHIC-30 questionnaire in Japanese and to identify potential factors for family-centred care satisfaction. Methods: We translated and adapted for patient-reported outcome measures via a 10-step process outlined by the Principles of Good Practice. Four paediatric PICUs in Japan participated in the validation study, and the parental enrolment criterion was a child with a PICU stay of >24 h. Reliability was measured by Cronbach's α, and congruent validity was tested with overall satisfaction-with-care scales by correlation analysis. Multivariate linear regression modelling was conducted to identify factors related to each domain of the Japanese EMPATHIC-30. Results: A total of 163 parents (mean age: 31.9 ± 5.4 years; 81% were mothers) participated. The five domains of the Japanese EMPATHIC-30 showed high reliability (α = 0.87 to 0.97) and congruent validity, demonstrating high correlations with overall satisfaction in nurses (r = 0.75) and doctors (r = 0.76). Multivariate modelling found that elective admission, mechanical ventilation, and parents who had experience of a family member in an adult intensive care unit had higher satisfaction scores in all five domains (p < 0.05). Moreover, Buddhists assigned higher satisfaction scores in the Care and Treatment domain (p = 0.03). Conclusions: The Japanese EMPATHIC-30 questionnaire has demonstrated adequate reliability and validity measures. We also identified that elective admission, mechanical ventilation, and having previous adult intensive care unit experience of a family member were factors in assigning higher scores for all satisfaction domains. PICU clinicians need to be cognisant of ethical, cultural, and religious factors relating to the critically ill child and their family.
Development and Validation of a Discharge Assessment Scale for Outpatients Undergoing Sedative Anesthesia in the Ambulatory Postanesthesia Care Unit: A Comprehensive Delphi Study

Abstract:PurposeThe purpose of this study was to develop a discharge assessment scale tailored for outpatients undergoing sedative anesthesia treatment in the ambulatory postanesthesia care unit and validate its agreement with the Post-Anesthetic Discharge Scoring System.DesignThe Delphi method.MethodsA Delphi survey was conducted with 30 experts focusing on the evaluation of outpatient discharges following treatment under ambulatory anesthesia. Subsequently, a cross-sectional observational study employing convenience sampling selected 2,579 outpatients who had undergone painless ambulatory gastrointestinal endoscopy at a tertiary hospital to analyze the level of agreement with the Post-Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System.FindingsThe study conducted three rounds of expert consultations to create the ambulatory discharge assessment scale. Twenty-five experts from 12 provinces and municipalities in our country were interviewed. The discharge assessment form encompassed five aspects: consciousness level, vital signs, directional stability, mobility, and adverse reactions. According to the scale, if the total score exceeded 9 points, with none of the items scoring 0 points, the ambulatory patient could be discharged from the hospital with the accompaniment of family members. Patients assessed using this newly constructed scale were able to leave the hospital earlier compared to those assessed using the comparative scale. No significant differences were observed in vital signs at the time of discharge or the occurrence of adverse events within 24 hours after the procedure.ConclusionsThis assessment tool for discharging ambulatory patients after the ambulatory anesthesia from the postanesthesia outpatient care unit can be considered a valuable addition to formalize the discharge process in outpatient services.
Development and Psychometric Verification of a Self-Administered Scale for Family Needs in Japanese Critical Care Settings

Abstract:Aim: We developed and evaluated the statistical reliability and validity of a family needs scale directly answerable by families in critical care settings. Methods: In this qualitative study, 39 questions were drafted to capture family needs. These questions were then administered to the families of patients in emergency care settings. Exploratory factor analyses identified several needs factors and factor structures of the questions with oblique rotation. A confirmatory factor analysis examined internal consistency and criterion-related and construct validity. Results: Three factors comprising 32 items were extracted from the exploratory factor analysis: "Needs for fulfilling family roles," "Needs for appropriate treatment and care," and "Needs for respecting family ties." Cronbach's α was 0.949 for the total score and 0.927, 0.914, and 0.896 for factors A-C, respectively, with cumulative variance of 50.0%. The three factors' confirmatory factor analysis revealed a relatively good model fit. A significant correlation was found between this scale and the assessment scale for the needs of families of patients in the intensive care unit. Conclusions: A new scale assessing family needs was developed, and its reliability and validity were confirmed. The scale has acceptable psychometric properties and can be used to measure family needs in critical care settings, particularly in Japanese cultural contexts.
Perceptions of diabetes management among adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their caregivers: development and validation of the Japanese version of the diabetes family responsibility questionnaire

Abstract:The shift in diabetes management responsibility is critical for adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Currently, in Japan, there is insufficient progress in the development of scales for evaluating diabetes management responsibility. We developed the Japanese version of the Diabetes Family Responsibility Questionnaire (DFRQ), a scale to evaluate diabetes management responsibility, and verified its reliability and validity. We recruited 12–18-year-old adolescents with T1D and their caregivers. The DFRQ questionnaires (DFRQ-A for adolescents and DFRQ-C for caregivers) were distributed. The responses of 31 pairs were analyzed (adolescents: 9 males, 22 females; mean age: 14.8 ± 1.5 years). The median total DFRQ scores of adolescents (30.0) and caregivers (32.0) were not significantly different ( p = 0.269). The internal consistencies (Cronbach's α) were 0.784 and 0.687 for DFRQ-A and DFRQ-C, respectively. DFRQ-A scores and adolescent age demonstrated a weak statistically significant negative correlation ( r = − 0.397, p = 0.027), whereas DFRQ-C scores and adolescent age demonstrated a weak negative correlation not statistically significant ( r = − 0.311, p = 0.089). Both scores were significantly negatively correlated with self-efficacy for diabetes self-management scores ( r = − 0.390, p = 0.030; r = − 0.478, p = 0.006, respectively). Furthermore, a significantly moderate positive correlation was found between these scores ( r = 0.624, p < 0.001). We confirmed the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of DFRQ. DFRQ is expected to be used as a dyadic scale to evaluate the status of diabetes management responsibility and its transition during adolescence in Japan.

Abstract:Abstract Objective Cancer patients with children are increasing; however, few studies have quantitatively assessed the parenting concerns of cancer patients with children. The Parenting Concerns Questionnaire was developed in the USA in 2012 and is the only instrument to measure the parenting concerns of cancer patients with children. This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the Parenting Concerns Questionnaire and evaluate its reliability and validity. Methods An Internet survey was conducted among cancer patients registered with ‘Cancer Parents’, an Internet community site for cancer patients, who have children aged <18 years, and 174 responses were recorded. Two weeks later, a retest was conducted, and responses were obtained from 87 patients. Results Based on confirmatory factor analysis of the factor structure proposed by the authors of the original version, factors ‘I. The impact of my illness on the child’s daily life (five items)’, ‘II. The impact of my illness on the child’s feelings (five items)’ and ‘III. Concerns about my parenting partner (five items)’ were consistent with the original version. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for all items and by factors were 0.86, 0.79, 0.86 and 0.86. The Parenting Concerns Questionnaire total scores correlated with Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (r = 0.52), the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy General (r = −0.56), Family Assessment Device-General Functioning (r = 0.51) and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (r = −0.47). The intraclass correlation coefficients for all items and by factors were 0.81, 0.71, 0.77 and 0.85. Conclusions The Japanese version of the Parenting Concerns Questionnaire has satisfactory reliability and validity.

Development and validation of the Care Transitions Scale for Patients with Heart Failure: A tool for nurses to assess patients' readiness for hospital discharge

Abstract:Aim: This study aimed to develop and assess the validity and reliability of the Care Transitions Scale for Patients with Heart Failure (CTS-HF) as a nurse-reported measure for evaluating patients' readiness for hospital discharge. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of cardiovascular ward nurses from 163 hospitals across Japan. Structural validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis with development participants and confirmatory factor analysis with validation participants. Convergent validity was assessed by correlation with the Discharge Planning of Ward Nurses scale (DPWN). Hypotheses testing for construct validity was performed as comparisons between subgroups of transitional care practice. Results: Valid responses were obtained from 704 nurses (development participants, n = 352; validation participants, n = 352). The final scale comprised 21 items divided into six factors: "Clear preparation for how to manage health at home," "Adjusting to home care/support system," "Transitions of medication management from hospital to home," "Dealing with patients' concerns and questions," "Transitions of disease management from hospital to home," and "Family support." Indices of fit supported these results (comparative fit index = 0.944, root mean square error of approximation = 0.057). The CTS-HF was significantly correlated with the DPWN. The nurses' subgroup with higher transitional care practice had higher CTS-HF scores. Cronbach's alpha was .93 for the CTS-HF. Conclusions: The CTS-HF showed sufficient reliability and validity for use in evaluating discharge care. Further studies are needed regarding the usefulness of this scale in nursing practice.
Translation and Adaptation of the Japanese Version of the Revised Parental Stressor Scale: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Abstract:Introduction The physical, cognitive, and psychiatric disorders that occur in patients after leaving the intensive care unit (ICU) are collectively called post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). Moreover, PICS-family (PICS-F) refers to the long-term psychological and social disorders that occur in the family. The symptoms of PICS-F can be psychological, and stress is a known cause of these symptoms. The Parental Stressor Scale: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PSS: PICU) was developed to assess stress levels and related factors among the families of patients admitted to the PICU. It has been translated into several languages and was revised in 2021. However, a Japanese version of the revised PSS: PICU (J-R-PSS: PICU) has not yet been developed. This study aimed to develop a J-R-PSS: PICU and to test its acceptability for clinical use. Materials and methods A back-translation method, involving initial translation, review by bilingual experts, and subsequent re-translation to ensure accuracy, was used to develop the J-R-PSS: PICU. Families with patients in the PICU for >48 hours between November and December 2021 and those who were transferred out of the ICU were recruited. Moreover, the study documents with a QR code for a web questionnaire were provided and explained to family members. Stress scores and stressors of family members were collected from web questionnaires using the PSS: PICU as the primary endpoint. Other information about the patients and their families was collected from clinical records and questionnaires. Participants and an expert panel evaluated the clarity of each item, and the expert panel evaluated the relevance of each item. Results Twenty family members who met the inclusion criteria and provided informed consent were included. The J-R-PSS: PICU was developed using a back-translation method. For clarity, all items were clarified after a single modification by an interdisciplinary team. For relevance, all the items had a content validity index at an item level of ≥0.8 and a scale level of 0.94. Alpha coefficients were 0.93 for the overall scale and 0.69-0.97 for its subscales. Conclusion We developed the J-R-PSS: PICU with high content validity and internal consistency using a back-translation method.

Abstract:This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the Self-assessment Scale of Interprofessional Competency (JASSIC), which consists of six domains: Patient-/Client-/Family-/Community-Centered, Interprofessional Communication, Role Contribution, Facilitation Relationship, Reflection, and Understanding of Others. Validity of JASSIC was confirmed through a four-step process consisting of expert discussion, cognitive debriefing, feasibility, and statistical analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed by testing the correlation between the sum scores of JASSIC and the Assessment of Interprofessional Team Collaboration Scale-II(AITCS-II). First, 24 items were created through discussions among physicians, a nurse, a medical educator, and an information sociologist. Second, the items were modified by cognitive debriefing of a physician, nurse, pharmacist, occupational therapist, and social worker. Third, we provided the developed JASSIC for professionals at Hospital X (n = 139) and revised the wording and composition of the items. Finally, CFA among professionals at Hospital Y (n = 153) identified a 6-domain structure (GFI: 0.847, AGFI: 0.782, RMSEA: 0.088). Cronbach's alpha was 0.92, and the correlation coefficient with AITCS-II was 0.72. Ongoing research into JASSIC will promote effective interprofessional collaborative practice not only in Japan but also other countries which share a similar culture and system.

Translation and Validation Testing of the Constipation-Related Quality of Life Scale for Use in Japan

Abstract:Introduction Establishing a scale that can easily be used to appropriately measure the impact of constipation on the quality of life in Japan is a first step toward addressing this important health issue. We developed a Japanese language version of the Constipation-Related Quality of Life scale, which has 18 items and four subscales, and then subjected it to validation testing. Methods After translation according to a standardized and commonly used procedure, the Japanese version of the Constipation-Related Quality of Life scale was administered to people in an internet-based panel, in March 2023. The participants included 1,276 adults who had constipation (median age: 60 years, 690 {54.1%} males). The outcome measures included the Constipation-Related Quality of Life scale, the Constipation Scoring System (an index of constipation severity), and the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) eight-item short form (a measure of generic health-related quality of life). Results Confirmatory factor analysis (four-factor model) indicated that all 18 Constipation-Related Quality of Life items had sufficiently high factor loadings (0.686-0.926). Internal consistency reliability was high (Cronbach's alpha: 0.86-0.94). Scores on the social impairment subscale and on the distress subscale of the Constipation-Related Quality of Life scale were significantly worse in the participants who had worse scores on the social functioning and mental health domains, respectively, of the MOS eight-item short form, which indicates good concurrent validity. Regarding criterion-based validity, the four subscale scores differed significantly among the four constipation-severity groups. The four subscale scores were also 1.16-4.53 times more sensitive than the MOS eight-item short form's mental component score to differences among the four constipation-severity groups (relative validity: 1.16-4.53), which indicates good discriminant validity. Conclusion The Japanese version of the Constipation-Related Quality of Life scale can be used with confidence in its factor structure, its concurrent, criterion-based, and discriminant validity, and its internal consistency reliability.

Abstract:Objective: No questionnaire aimed at evaluating the quality of life (QOL) of children with food allergies has been developed in Japan. Therefore, this study was aimed at developing a Japanese version of a QOL questionnaire for children with food allergies to be responded to by their parents. Methods: A 59-question primary questionnaire was developed for parents of children aged 0 to 15 years who had food allergies. Responses to the primary questionnaire were collected, and question items were reduced using factor analysis. Then, a secondary questionnaire consisting of nine questions was developed. The secondary questionnaire, the Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire - Parent Form (FAQLQ-PF), and the parent-reported questionnaire on health-related quality of life in children and adolescents (KINDL) were administered to parents of children aged 3 to 15 years who had food allergies. Results: Overall, 342 parents completed all questionnaires. The QOL scores of the secondary questionnaire were significantly correlated to those of the FAQLQ-PF (r=0.765) and weakly correlated to those of the KINDL (r=-0.358). In addition, QOL scores were significantly worse in patients with a history of anaphylaxis, who were prescribed an adrenaline auto-injector, and who were allergic to hen's eggs, cow milk, or wheat. Conclusion: We were able to develop a parent-reported validated Japanese version of the QOL questionnaire for children with food allergies.

Abstract:BackgroundThis study aimed to provide a psychometric evaluation of the Japanese version of the Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life questionnaire (JPAC-QOL).MethodsData for scoring were collected prospectively from patients with constipation who visited our center from 2008 to 2010, and analyzed retrospectively. Reliability of the JPAC-QOL was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha to calculate internal consistency, and a test–retest study was performed to evaluate reproducibility. For concurrent validity assessment, the JPAC-QOL scores were compared with Constipation Scoring System (CSS) scores. In assessing responsiveness, the JPAC-QOL scores before and after treatments were compared in patients whose modified CSS (mCSS) scores decreased by >50 %.ResultsInternal consistency was assessed in 295 patients (165 women; mean age 67.0 years). Cronbach’s alpha was >0.7 for the overall score and all four subscales, showing a strong internal consistency. The intraclass correlations for the 145 patients available for the test–retest study were >0.7 for the overall score and for all subscales except satisfaction. The JPAC-QOL scores were significantly associated with the CSS scores in 284 patients, demonstrating concurrent validity in all four subscales and the overall score. The mean JPAC-QOL score improved significantly after treatment in the 72 patients whose mCSS scores decreased by >50 %, indicating good responsiveness in all four subscales and in the overall score.ConclusionsOur study data confirmed the validity and reliability of the JPAC-QOL and demonstrated it ready for use in evaluating the symptom-specific QOL in Japanese patients with constipation.

Abstract:Objectives The Internet has made it possible to search for, obtain, transmit, and share information. Accordingly, the ability to use health information and skills related to interactivity taken from the Internet have become important in the medical and health fields. However, there is no scale to evaluate these abilities. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the Digital Health Literacy Instrument (DHLI) and examine the association of digital health literacy (DHL) with the characteristics of the study participants.Methods The Japanese version of the DHLI was developed using the basic guidelines for scale translation. The participants included 2,000 Japanese adults (men: 50.0%, mean age: 40.7±12.0 years) who responded to an Internet-based cross-sectional survey. The Japanese version of the DHLI, attributes, sources of health information, contents of health information taken from the Internet, and eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS) scores were obtained using a questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis and correlation with eHEALS scores were used to assess construct and criterion validities. Cronbach's alpha and correlation coefficients were computed for internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Differences in DHLI scores for each attribute and variables related to health information were examined using the analysis of variance and t-test.Results Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a goodness-of-fit index of .946, a comparative fit index of .969, and a root mean square error of approximation of .054, confirming that the Japanese version has the same seven-factor structure as the original version does. A significant positive correlation was found between DHLI and eHEALS scores (r=.40, P<.001). Cronbach's alpha was .92, and test-retest reliability was r=.88 (P<.001). DHLI scores were mainly associated with household income, health status, frequency of information searches on the Internet, and devices used. The subscale scores found difficulties in evaluating reliability, determining relevance, and adding self-generated content. Differences in DHL were observed among some sources and contents of health information on the Internet.Conclusion The Japanese version of the DHLI was a sufficiently reliable and valid instrument for assessing DHL among Japanese adults. Our results suggest that low DHL may lead to health information disparities. Therefore, it is necessary to consider support strategies for individuals who need to improve their DHL and for skills that need to be strengthened.
Development of a Japanese Scale that Evaluates the Level of Nursing Support Provided to Patients for Decision-Making in Cancer Clinical Trials

Abstract:Clinical nurses need learning programs that are useful in nursing support for patients' decision-making (NSPDM) regarding cancer clinical trials (CCTs). The usefulness of the learning program can be evaluated if the practices of NSPDM before and after participation in the learning program can be compared. We developed a scale to measure the level of self-assessed NSPDM regarding participation in a CCT. Thirty-two items of scale were developed in Japanese based on previous literature. Based on the results of a pilot study, items with similar meanings were removed and the validity of the 26 scale items was statistically examined in terms of construct validity and reliability. The study population was clinical nurses and included clinical research nurses. We received 102 valid responses from clinical nurses. Based on the bias of the boxplot distribution and the ceiling and floor effects for the items analysis of the 26-item draft scale, 17 items remained. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed that the scale consisted of three subscales and 17 items. Regarding fit indices of the model, the goodness-of-fit index (GFI), adjusted GFI (AGFI), comparative fit index (CFI), and root mean square error of application (RMSEA) were 0.775, 0.704, 0.477, and 0.081, respectively. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the overall scale was 0.951, with subscales ranging from 0.820 to 0.942. The validity and reliability of this scale were acceptable. This scale may be helpful to evaluate the usefulness of learning programs, i.e., the practice level of NSPDM.

Abstract:Experiential avoidance related to teachers or teaching can be assessed using the Teachers Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (TAAQ); however, no Japanese version of the TAAQ has thus far been presented. This study aimed to develop a Japanese version of the TAAQ and examine its reliability and validity. The participants were 300 elementary or middle school teachers in Japan (201 men, 99 women; mean age = 45.37, SD = 10.42). A one-factor structure was identified using confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency was assessed using item-total correlation coefficients and Cronbach's alpha, while test-retest reliability was measured using intraclass correlation coefficients. The results demonstrated sufficient reliability. Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficients—with scales that measure burnout, experiential avoidance (EA) in general, teachers' occupational stressors, work engagement, and worry—were calculated to examine concurrent validity and showed a small-to-large significant correlation. Mediation analyses—with occupational stressors as the independent variable, the three factors of burnout as the dependent variables, and teaching-related EA as the mediation variable—were also conducted to examine construct validity, which showed significant mediation models. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine incremental validity; it showed that once the Japanese version of the TAAQ was added, the effect on burnout improved. Although our Japanese version of the TAAQ has some limitations, it showed sufficient reliability and validity; therefore, its use as a scale in future research is acceptable.

Validation of the Japanese version of the Sleep Hygiene Practice Scale

Abstract:Objective: This study sought to validate the Japanese version of the Sleep Hygiene Practices Scale (SHPS-J). Patients/methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted via the internet. In total, 854 participants (435 men, 419 women; mean age, 42.91 ± 11.54 years) were asked to complete all scales, and 283 of them were asked to complete the same scales two weeks later. The survey consisted of the SHPS-J, the Japanese version of the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI-J), and the Japanese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-J). The SHPS-J was developed according to the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Task Force for Translation and Cultural Adaption. For the analysis, participants were divided into three groups: insomnia syndrome, insomnia symptoms, and good sleep groups. Results: The SHPS-J had good test-retest reliability (ICC: 0.55-0.76) and adequate internal consistency (α = 0.54-0.74), except with regard to eating/drinking behaviors. The factorial validity of the four-factor structure was confirmed through a confirmatory factor analysis; however, one item related to eating/drinking behaviors had no significant factor loading. The construct validity was confirmed through a correlation analysis between each domain of the SHPS-J and ISI-J (r = 0.19-0.60, p < 0.01). The results of clinical validation confirmed that all domains of the SHPS-J were significantly higher for individuals with insomnia than for good sleepers. Conclusions: This study confirmed both the reliability and validity of the SHPS-J.
Reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale-Parent Form in parents of preterm infants

Abstract:Background: The Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale (RHDS)-Parent Form shows satisfactory reliability and validity to assess the readiness of parents to take care of their children discharged from hospitals in Western countries. However, the reliability and validity of this instrument has not been evaluated in Chinese populations. Objectives: Evaluate the psychometric features of the RHDS-Parent Form among Chinese parents of preterm infants. Methods: The RHDS-Parent Form was translated into a Chinese version following an international instrument translation guideline. A total of 168 parents with preterm infants were recruited from the neonatal intensive care units of two tertiary-level hospitals in China. The internal consistency of this measure was assessed using the Cronbach's α coefficient; confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to evaluate the construct validity; and Pearson correlation coefficient was used to report the convergent validity. Results: The Chinese version of RHDS (C-RHDS)-Parent Form included 22 items with 4 subscales, accounting for 56.71% of the total variance. The C-RHDS-Parent Form and its subscales showed good reliability (Cronbach's α values 0.78-0.92). This measure and its subscales showed positive correlations with the score of Quality of Discharge Teaching Scale. Conclusion: The factor structure of C-RHDS-Parent Form is partially consistent with the original English version. Future studies are needed to explore the factors within this measure before it is widely used in Chinese clinical care settings.

Abstract:Background: Patient care ownership (PCO) among medical students is a growing area in the field of medical education. While PCO has received increasing attention, there are no instruments to assess PCO in the context of Japanese undergraduate medical education. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the PCO Scale - Medical students (PCOS-S) in the Japanese context. Methods: We collected survey data from fifth- and sixth-grade medical students from five different universities varying in location and type. Structural validity, convergent validity, and internal consistency reliability were examined. Results: Data from 122 respondents were analyzed. Factor analysis of the Japanese PCOS-S revealed three factors with Cronbach's alpha values exceeding the satisfactory criterion (0.70). A positive correlation was observed between the total Japanese PCOS-S scores and the global rating scores for the clinical department as a learning environment (Pearson's correlation coefficient = 0.61). Conclusions: We conducted the translation of the PCOS-S into Japanese and assessed its psychometric properties. The Japanese version has good reliability and validity. This instrument has potential value in assessing the development of medical students' PCO.

Abstract:Background: Human resource management may become complex for community pharmacists owing to recent changes in work volume and content. Few studies have examined job satisfaction, well-being, and quality of work life (QWL) among community pharmacists in Japan. This study focused on QWL, a more comprehensive concept than job satisfaction, and aimed to develop the QWL questionnaire for Japanese community pharmacists (the QWLQ for JCP) and assess its reliability and validity. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 2027 pharmacists who worked in pharmacies with the cooperation of 20 corporations running pharmacies. Collected data were subjected to principal component factor analysis with Promax rotation via SPSS Windows version 28. Results: The factor analysis used data from 1966 pharmacists. In total, five significant components, which formed the basis of the QWLQ for JCP, were identified. These included "Influence of work on mind and body," "Relationships with colleagues," "Relationship with the boss," "Meaning of existence in the workplace," and "Pride in work." Cronbach's alpha, which expressed reliability, ranged from 0.585 to 0.854 for all the subscales. Conclusion: The QWLQ for the JCP significantly explained the concept of QWL, which indicated that its validity was sufficient.
