Abstract:An exhaustive study on neural network language modeling (NNLM) is performed in this paper. Different architectures of basic neural network language models are described and examined. A number of different improvements over basic neural network language models, including importance sampling, word classes, caching and bidirectional recurrent neural network (BiRNN), are studied separately, and the advantages and disadvantages of every technique are evaluated. Then, the limits of neural network language modeling are explored from the aspects of model architecture and knowledge representation. Part of the statistical information from a word sequence will loss when it is processed word by word in a certain order, and the mechanism of training neural network by updating weight matrixes and vectors imposes severe restrictions on any significant enhancement of NNLM. For knowledge representation, the knowledge represented by neural network language models is the approximate probabilistic distribution of word sequences from a certain training data set rather than the knowledge of a language itself or the information conveyed by word sequences in a natural language. Finally, some directions for improving neural network language modeling further is discussed.

Abstract:Rapid progress in machine learning for natural language processing has the potential to transform debates about how humans learn language. However, the learning environments and biases of current artificial learners and humans diverge in ways that weaken the impact of the evidence obtained from learning simulations. For example, today's most effective neural language models are trained on roughly one thousand times the amount of linguistic data available to a typical child. To increase the relevance of learnability results from computational models, we need to train model learners without significant advantages over humans. If an appropriate model successfully acquires some target linguistic knowledge, it can provide a proof of concept that the target is learnable in a hypothesized human learning scenario. Plausible model learners will enable us to carry out experimental manipulations to make causal inferences about variables in the learning environment, and to rigorously test poverty-of-the-stimulus-style claims arguing for innate linguistic knowledge in humans on the basis of speculations about learnability. Comparable experiments will never be possible with human subjects due to practical and ethical considerations, making model learners an indispensable resource. So far, attempts to deprive current models of unfair advantages obtain sub-human results for key grammatical behaviors such as acceptability judgments. But before we can justifiably conclude that language learning requires more prior domain-specific knowledge than current models possess, we must first explore non-linguistic inputs in the form of multimodal stimuli and multi-agent interaction as ways to make our learners more efficient at learning from limited linguistic input.
Learning Solving Procedure for Artificial Neural Network

Abstract:It is expected that progress toward true artificial intelligence will be achieved through the emergence of a system that integrates representation learning and complex reasoning (LeCun et al. 2015). In response to this prediction, research has been conducted on implementing the symbolic reasoning of a von Neumann computer in an artificial neural network (Graves et al. 2016; Graves et al. 2014; Reed et al. 2015). However, these studies have many limitations in realizing neural-symbolic integration (Jaeger. 2016). Here, we present a new learning paradigm: a learning solving procedure (LSP) that learns the procedure for solving complex problems. This is not accomplished merely by learning input-output data, but by learning algorithms through a solving procedure that obtains the output as a sequence of tasks for a given input problem. The LSP neural network system not only learns simple problems of addition and multiplication, but also the algorithms of complicated problems, such as complex arithmetic expression, sorting, and Hanoi Tower. To realize this, the LSP neural network structure consists of a deep neural network and long short-term memory, which are recursively combined. Through experimentation, we demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of LSP and its validity as a mechanism of complex reasoning.

Abstract:Abstract:Herein, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Modeling is considered to mathematicallyformulate an interesting and rather challenging educational issue; namely, searching foroptimality in an educational methodology for teaching children how to read. Theadopted search approach is inspired by relevant artificial neural network modeling basedon neuro-biological characterizations. That is rather than other classical approachesinspired by psychological and psycho-linguistics research directions.Fortunately, dominant optimality of teaching reading phonically over othermethodologies has been recently proven by a simulated but realistic model along withpublished results, subsequent to an educational field testing. Consequently,mathematical formulation of phonics methodology is a highly recommended researchwork to justify that optimality. Herein, mathematical formulation performed viacomparative analogy with a naturally inspired artificial neural network (ANN) model.More precisely, that fulfilled on the basis of realistically simulated modeling of selforganized(unsupervised) learning paradigm originated from Hebb's learning rule. Inother words, modeling of Hebbian rule essentially depends upon biological informationprocessing to construct associative memory phenomenon after Pavlovian conditioninglearning. Conclusively, presented mathematical formulation supported superiority aswell as optimality of teaching reading using phonics methodology.

Abstract:This study exploits a novel enhanced genetic neural network algorithm with link switches (EGA-NNLS) to model the professional university course evaluating system. Various indices should be employed to evaluate the learning effect of a professional course comprehensively and objectively, and the traditional artificial evaluation methods cannot achieve this goal. The presented data-driven modeling method, EGA-NNLS, combines a neural network with link switches (NN-LS) with an enhanced genetic algorithm (EGA) and the Levenberg–Marquardt (LM) algorithm. It employs an optimized network structure combined with EGA and NN-LS to learn the relationships between the system's input and output from historical data and uses the network's gradient information via the LM algorithm. Compared with the traditional backpropagation neural network (BPNN), EGA-NNLS achieves a faster convergence speed and higher evaluation precision. In order to verify the efficiency of EGA-NNLS, it is applied to a collection of experimental data for modeling the professional university course evaluating system.

An Artificial Neuron for Enhanced Problem Solving in Large Language Models

Abstract:Recent advancements in artificial intelligence have propelled the capabilities of Large Language Models, yet their ability to mimic nuanced human reasoning remains limited. This paper introduces a novel conceptual enhancement to LLMs, termed the Artificial Neuron, designed to significantly bolster cognitive processing by integrating external memory systems. This enhancement mimics neurobiological processes, facilitating advanced reasoning and learning through a dynamic feedback loop mechanism. We propose a unique framework wherein each LLM interaction specifically in solving complex math word problems and common sense reasoning tasks is recorded and analyzed. Incorrect responses are refined using a higher capacity LLM or human in the loop corrections, and both the query and the enhanced response are stored in a vector database, structured much like neuronal synaptic connections. This Artificial Neuron thus serves as an external memory aid, allowing the LLM to reference past interactions and apply learned reasoning strategies to new problems. Our experimental setup involves training with the GSM8K dataset for initial model response generation, followed by systematic refinements through feedback loops. Subsequent testing demonstrated a significant improvement in accuracy and efficiency, underscoring the potential of external memory systems to advance LLMs beyond current limitations. This approach not only enhances the LLM's problem solving precision but also reduces computational redundancy, paving the way for more sophisticated applications of artificial intelligence in cognitive tasks. This paper details the methodology, implementation, and implications of the Artificial Neuron model, offering a transformative perspective on enhancing machine intelligence.

Abstract:With the continuous development of neural network theory itself and related theories and related technologies, neural network is one of the main branches of intelligent control technology. Artificial neural network is a nonlinear and adaptive information processing composed of a large number of processing units. In this paper, an adaptive fuzzy neural network (FNN) is used to construct an intelligent system architecture for English learning, and activation function is used to apply the knowledge of computer science and linguistics to English learning. The network neural structure diagram is presented. English machine learning model framework is established based on recursive neural network. On this basis, feature vector extraction and normalization algorithm are used to meet the needs of neural network model. After acquiring the feature vectors of users’ learning styles, the clustering algorithm is used to effectively form a variety of learning styles. The validity of the English learning model was verified by designing the functional flow based on tests. Accurate mastery can activate the corresponding brain regions not only to improve the efficiency of learning, but also to better facilitate language learning.

Abstract:With the popularity of languages and the increasing demand for language translation, the optimization of artificial intelligence scoring algorithm for English translation has become the urgent need of the translation market. Based on the deep neural network(DNN) algorithm, it continuously integrates modern technology to realize information collection, storage, analysis and application, which promotes the deep integration of the DNN algorithm in the field of intelligent identification and expands the application scope of artificial intelligence identification technology. This paper focuses on how to efficiently optimize the model of English translation artificial intelligence scoring algorithm by DNN, specifically studying the DNN model, by studying the mathematical model and algorithm flow of the DNN optimization algorithm, and the basic principle of the DNN model; Based on the DNN model, a learning ability analysis model of English translation algorithm is proposed. Experiments show that this model can optimize the artificial intelligence scoring algorithm of English translation.

Abstract:Abstract In order to explore the application of machine learning algorithm to intelligent analysis of big data in an artificial intelligence (AI) environment, make cognitive computing meet the requirements of AI and better assist humans to carry out data analysis, first, the theoretical basis of machine learning algorithm is elaborated. Then, a cognitive computational model based on the machine learning algorithm is proposed, including the essence, principle, function, training method of deep belief network (DBN) algorithm, as well as the joint use of DBN algorithm and multilayer perceptron. Finally, the proposed algorithm is simulated. The results show that under the same parameter conditions, the accuracy rate of the DBN algorithm combined with multilayer perceptron is higher than that of the DBN algorithm; when the number of units is >40, the accuracy rate of the DBN algorithm combined with multilayer perceptron is significantly higher than that of the DBN algorithm; when the number of units is 30, the best effect can be obtained, and the error rate is <0.05, but the DBN algorithm cannot achieve this effect alone; when the number of network layers is specified as four, the error rate of the DBN algorithm combined with multilayer perceptron is <0.05, forming the optimal level. In the AI environment, the performance of the cognitive computational model based on the DBN algorithm and multilayer perceptron can reach the highest level, which makes the computer become a handy intelligent auxiliary tool for human beings.

Abstract:Motivated by the increasing applications of artificial intelligence in education, the present study aimed at developing an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-based model for predicting EFL (English as a Foreign Language) achievement levels using data about learners' variables. Another endeavor of the current survey was to analyze the importance of learners' differences in predicting EFL achievement: personality traits, perceptual learning style preferences, language learning strategies, motivation, and attitudes. A Likert-response format questionnaire served to gauge the considered learners' variables. The subjects were 200 Tunisian first-year university students aged 19 to 23, not English-specialized students. As for data analysis procedures, the employment of the alpha internal consistency coefficient was to inform about the reliability of the study instrument, and the ANNs were to give insights into the interconnections among the study variables. The findings postulated that it was practicable to implement systematic ANNs to predict learners' EFL achievement levels using their individual affective and cognitive factors, as the model achieved an excellent overall accuracy (an accuracy of 97%). Moreover, results proved that using learners' variables simultaneously provided a better prediction of EFL achievement. The study highly recommends the implementation of ANNs for the analysis of EFL learning to increase its effectiveness.

Abstract:With the rapid development of modern information technology, students' education and computer technology begin to blend, and the modern teaching mode is quite different from the traditional education mode known in the past. In view of the current college English teaching in the information age, this study puts forward the way of integrating computer information technology with college English teaching, improves MLP algorithm, puts forward a new artificial intelligence algorithm, improves its calculation efficiency, and uses the optimized GA-MLP-NN (Genetic Neural Network Algorithm for the Multilayer Perceptron) algorithm in college students' oral correction program. Firstly, GA-MLP-NN algorithm is used to optimize college English teaching so that more complex structures can be learned and dealt with. Incremental hidden layer unit neural network is added, which makes the operation more accurate based on S-type recursive function. Then, the oral English system is established, using the GA-MLP-NN neural network model. Finally, we evaluate the parameters of the model, design a comparative experiment and a questionnaire survey to verify the rationality and feasibility of the guess, which proves that this method can deal with more complex programs, and make students learn English more handy and close to students' needs by using computer technology.

Deep Neural Networks Language Model Based on CNN and LSTM Hybrid Architecture

Abstract:The language model is one of the most important domains in natural language processing. It is a bridge for the computer to identify and comprehend human language, and it is also a sign of Artificial Intelligence development. The language model is popular in Speech Recognition, Machine Translation, Information Retrieval, and Knowledge Mapping. With the rapid expansion of technology and hardware, the language model has experienced a transformation from statistical model to neural network model and then to the deep neural network model. The wide application of depth learning makes language modeling more extensive, complex, and expensive. This paper combines the person-alized input, convolutional neural network (CNN) coding, and the technique of union gate, cooperating with long short-term memory (LSTM) mechanism to improve the language model. The dynamic integration of LSTM and CNN is called Gated CLSTM. In the experiment, we used the deep learning framework Tensorflow to achieve a Gated GLSTM architecture. Besides, some classical optimization techniques, such as noise contrastive estimation and re-current projection layer, were adopted in the experiment. We tested the performance of the Gated CLSTM under an open and big scale corpus set and trained a signal-layer model and a three-layer model to observe how network depth influences the performance. The single-layer model has 4 days of training experience and reduced the perplexity to 42.1 in four GPU console environment. The three-layer model reduced the perplexity to 33.1 in 6 days. Compared with some classical benchmark models, significant improvements have been made by Gated CLSTM considering both hardware and time complexity and perplexity.

Abstract:In the past decade, we have observed a growing interest in using technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and chatbots to provide assistance to language learners, especially in second language learning. By using AI and natural language processing (NLP) and chatbots, we can create an intelligent self-learning environment that goes beyond multiple-choice questions and/or fill in the blank exercises. In addition, NLP allows for learning to be adaptive in that it offers more than an indication that an error has occurred. It also provides a description of the error, uses linguistic analysis to isolate the source of the error, and then suggests additional drills to achieve optimal individualized learning outcomes. In this paper, we present our approach for developing an Artificial Intelligence-based Arabic Language and Speech Tutor (AI-ALST) for teaching the Moroccan Arabic dialect. The AI-ALST system is an intelligent tutor that provides analysis and assessment of students learning the Moroccan dialect at University of Arizona (UA). The AI-ALST provides a self-learned environment to practice each lesson for pronunciation training. In this paper, we present our initial experimental evaluation of the AI-ALST that is based on MFCC (Mel frequency cepstrum coefficient) feature extraction, bidirectional LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory), attention mechanism, and a cost-based strategy for dealing with class-imbalance learning. We evaluated our tutor on the word pronunciation of lesson 1 of the Moroccan Arabic dialect class. The experimental results show that the AI-ALST can effectively and successfully detect pronunciation errors and evaluate its performance by using F_1-score, accuracy, precision, and recall.
The New Literacies of Online Research and Comprehension: Rethinking the Reading Achievement Gap

Abstract:Is there an achievement gap for online reading ability based on income inequality that is separate from the achievement gap in traditional, offline reading? This possibility was examined between students in two pseudonymous school districts: West Town (economically advantaged) and East Town (economically challenged; N = 256). Performance-based assessments were used within a simulation of the Internet developed as part of a larger project. Seventh graders completed two online research and comprehension assessments, which evaluated four skill areas (locate, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate) and two knowledge domains in science. Students also completed an assessment of prior domain knowledge and a short Internet use questionnaire. Standardized state reading and writing test scores served as measures of offline literacy skills. Results indicated that there was a significant achievement gap favoring West Town students in offline reading scores, offline writing scores, and online research and comprehension scores. A significant gap persisted for online research and comprehension after we conditioned on pretest differences in offline reading, offline writing, and prior knowledge scores. The results of the questionnaire indicated that West Town students had greater access to the Internet at home and were required to use the Internet more in school. These results suggest that a separate and independent achievement gap existed for online reading, based on income inequality. Current estimates of this gap, which rely solely on measures of offline reading, may underrepresent the true nature of the U.S. reading achievement gap in an online age. Policy implications are explored. Education and opportunity have long been linked to public policy in the United States ( Brown v. Board of Educ. , 1954 ; Mann, 1855 ; National Governors Association Center for Best Practices & Council of Chief State School Officers [NGA Center & CCSSO], 2010 ). Intertwined with this history, the ability to read at high levels has always been considered important, permitting an essential pathway to advancement for everyone, especially the least privileged (cf. Chall, 1967 ; Huey, 1908 ). Despite attempts at policy remedies, a substantial gap based on income inequality continues to exist in students’ reading achievement levels (National Center for Educational Statistics [NCES], 2011b , 2013 ), and evidence indicates that it is growing, over time (Reardon, 2013 ). In a society that professes egalitarian ideals and equal opportunity through education, a reading achievement gap based on income inequality should be a concern of every citizen. Abstract:Large language models based on self-attention mechanisms have achieved astonishing performances not only in natural language itself, but also in a variety of tasks of different nature. However, regarding processing language, our human brain may not operate using the same principle. Then, a debate is established on the connection between brain computation and artificial self-supervision adopted in large language models. One of most influential hypothesis in brain computation is the predictive coding framework, which proposes to minimize the prediction error by local learning. However, the role of predictive coding and the associated credit assignment in language processing remains unknown. Here, we propose a mean-field learning model within the predictive coding framework, assuming that the synaptic weight of each connection follows a spike and slab distribution, and only the distribution, rather than specific weights, is trained. This meta predictive learning is successfully validated on classifying handwritten digits where pixels are input to the network in sequence, and moreover on the toy and real language corpus. Our model reveals that most of the connections become deterministic after learning, while the output connections have a higher level of variability. The performance of the resulting network ensemble changes continuously with data load, further improving with more training data, in analogy with the emergent behavior of large language models. Therefore, our model provides a starting point to investigate the connection among brain computation, next-token prediction and general intelligence.

Abstract:The linguistic artificial intelligence teaching model can be assisted by the intelligent speech recognition model. The traditional speech recognition algorithm has certain problems, so it cannot effectively eliminate speech noise. Based on the advantages of the linguistics teaching model, this article combines the linguistics teaching model and the artificial intelligence model to build an artificial intelligence assisted teaching model that can be used for classroom teaching. Moreover, this study improves the traditional algorithm and constructs an artificial intelligence linguistics teaching model based on the improved algorithm. The filtering part of noise includes preliminary filtering of speech signals based on the short-term energy detection method, and further detection and recognition of preliminary filtering speech signals based on the artificial intelligence model detection method. After these two steps of filtering and recognition, the voice file is sent to the client for processing and control. In addition, this study set up a control experiment to analyze the performance of the model. The research results show that the algorithm in this paper has a certain effect.

Abstract:This study aims to explore the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and network technology in teaching. By studying the AI-based smart classroom teaching mode and the advantages and disadvantages of network teaching using network technology and taking the mathematics classroom as an example, this study makes an intelligent analysis of the questioning link of classroom teachers in the teaching process. For the questions raised by teachers, the network classification models of convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) are used to classify the questions according to the content and types of questions and carry out experimental verification. The results show that the overall performance of the CNN model is better than that of the LSTM model in the classification results of the teacher's question content dimension. CNN has higher accuracy, and the classification accuracy of essential knowledge points reaches 86.3%. LSTM is only 79.2%, and CNN improves by 8.96%. In the classification results of teacher question types, CNN has higher accuracy. The classification accuracy of the prompt question is the highest, reaching 87.82%. LSTM is only 83.2%, and CNN improves by 4.95%. CNN performs better in teacher question classification results.

Abstract:The conventional statistical evaluations are limited in providing good predictions of the university educational quality. This paper presents an approach with both conventional statistical analysis and neural network modelling/prediction of students’ performance. Conventional statistical evaluations are used to identify the factors that likely affect the students’ performance. The neural network is modelled with 11 input variables, two layers of hidden neurons, and one output layer. Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm is employed as the backpropagation training rule. The performance of neural network model is evaluated through the error performance, regression, error histogram, confusion matrix and area under the receiver operating characteristics curve. Overall, the neural network model has achieved a good prediction accuracy of 84.8%, along with limitations.
Evaluating Neural Language Models as Cognitive Models of Language Acquisition

Abstract:The success of neural language models (LMs) on many technological tasks has brought about their potential relevance as scientific theories of language despite some clear differences between LM training and child language acquisition. In this paper we argue that some of the most prominent benchmarks for evaluating the syntactic capacities of LMs may not be sufficiently rigorous. In particular, we show that the template-based benchmarks lack the structural diversity commonly found in the theoretical and psychological studies of language. When trained on small-scale data modeling child language acquisition, the LMs can be readily matched by simple baseline models. We advocate for the use of the readily available, carefully curated datasets that have been evaluated for gradient acceptability by large pools of native speakers and are designed to probe the structural basis of grammar specifically. On one such dataset, the LI-Adger dataset, LMs evaluate sentences in a way inconsistent with human language users. We conclude with suggestions for better connecting LMs with the empirical study of child language acquisition.

Abstract:At present, the development of artificial intelligence has entered a new stage. In the next few years, human life will be greatly covered by artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence (AI) is an intelligent technology that simulates the human brain for thinking operation. English is very difficult for Chinese students to learn. Moreover, at present, there are still many areas that need to be improved or improved in the design of English assistant instruction system (EAIS) in China. This study aims to study an EAIS based on AI. This study presents an algorithm combined with neural network. This study designs a system that can enable students' autonomous learning system, English teacher assisted teaching, AI expert intelligent diagnosis, and system administrator to manage and analyze data. And this study tests the actual effect of the system. By comparing the academic performance of two classes in the school, the results show that although the average score of students' monthly test fluctuates after using the AI EAIS, it tends to rise as a whole. Moreover, its initial score of 81.5 was 1.1 lower than that of the class without the teaching system and finally increased to 90.11. It is 6.89 points higher than the class that does not use the teaching system. This shows that the auxiliary system designed in this study has a certain effect on the improvement of students' English performance.
