Abstract:Abstract For poikilothermic groups such as insects, the capacity to adapt to different temperature regimes is particularly important for survival. To investigate the possible role of heat shock proteins (Hsps) in the invasive pest, the rice water weevil (Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus Kuschel, Coleoptera: Curculionidae), we first analyzed the composition and expression profile of Hsp families under sub-lethal temperatures of 0 °C and 43 °C, using the quantitative realtime polymerase chain reaction. Eight genes coding Hsp90, Hsp70, and small Hsps were upregulated under heat stress, while only 1 Hsp70 gene and 1 Hsp90 gene were up-regulated under cold stress. Results indicate that Hsps from all families except Hsp60 are responsible for the capacity of L. oryzophilus to tolerate temperature stress, although more genes were up-regulated, and more rapidly, under heat stress than under cold stress. Secondly Hsp expression patterns in diapausing and non-diapausing female adults were investigated. The results showed that rice water weevils in diapause up-regulated no Hsp gene but they downregulated 4 small Hsps, 2 Hsp90, 1 Hsp70 and 1 Hsp60 genes.
Cloning and Molecular Characterization of Hsp Genes from Anoplophora glabripennis and Their Responses to Cold Stress

Abstract:Anoplophora glabripennis (Agla) is an important global quarantine pest due to its highly destructive impacts on forests. It is widely distributed in many countries in Asia, Europe, and North America. The survival of A. glabripennis larvae has been facilitated by its high adaptability to low temperature. When insects are subjected to temperature stress, heat shock proteins (Hsps) limit cell damage and improve cell tolerance via their protein folding, localization, and degradation activities. However, the temperature adaptation mechanisms of A. glabripennis Hsps remain unclear. In this study, four A. glabripennis Hsp genes, AglaHsp20.43, AglaHsp71.18, AglaHsp82.09, and AglaHsp89.76, were cloned. Sequence analysis showed that all four Hsps had specific conserved domains. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that Hsps from different subfamilies were evolutionarily conserved, and that AglaHsps were highly similar to those of Coleoptera species. Protein expression vectors (pET30a-AglaHsps) were constructed and used to express AglaHsps in E. coli, where all four proteins were expressed in inclusion bodies. Western blot analysis showed that AglaHsps were expressed at a range of temperatures, from −10 °C to 25 °C. AglaHsp82.09 and AglaHsp89.76 showed high expressions with treatment at 0 °C. Our results will facilitate clarification of the molecular mechanisms underlying A. glabripennis responses to environmental stress.

Abstract:The environmental adaptability of insects has been a key focus of ecological research. As molecular chaperones, Heat shock proteins (Hsps) play an important role in insect responses to environmental stress. Anoplophora glabripennis is a destructive pest of broad-leaved trees such as poplars. The ability to adapt to low temperature is an important factor for successful colonization of A. glabripennis in new diffusion area. However, the roles of Hsp in the stress responses in A. glabripennis have not been established. In this study, we identified 47 Hsp genes, including 3 Hsp90, 14 Hsp70, 9 Hsp60, and 21 sHsp genes. The Hsp gene family expanded substantially in A. glabripennis. The differences in expression patterns may be related to the type and intensity of stress. Larval overwintering transcriptomes showed that 13 Hsp genes were not induced during overwintering and 21 Hsp genes were involved in the regulation of life activities under non-stress conditions. In a quantitative RT-PCR analysis, AglaHsp90-2 responded more quickly under gradient cooling treatments; AglaHsp90-2 and AglaHsp90-3 were sensitive to treatment at 0 °C for 6 h under instantaneous cooling. Our results provide a theoretical basis for clarifying the molecular mechanism of Hsp genes in A. glabripennis in responsing to environmental stresses.

Abstract:Small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) comprise numerous proteins with diverse structure and function. As molecular chaperones, they play essential roles in various biological processes, especially under thermal stresses. In this study, we identified three sHSP-encoding genes, LtHSP19.5, LtHSP20.8 and LtHSP21.7b from Liriomyza trifolii, an important insect pest of ornamental and vegetable crops worldwide. Putative proteins encoded by these genes all contain a conserved α-crystallin domain that is typical of the sHSP family. Their expression patterns during temperature stresses and at different insect development stages were studied by reverse-transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). In addition, the expression patterns were compared with those of LtHSP21.3 and LtHSP21.7, two previously published sHSPs. When pupae were exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 to 45 °C for 1 h, all LtsHSPs were strongly induced by either heat or cold stresses, but the magnitude was lower under the low temperature range than high temperatures. Developmentally regulated differential expression was also detected, with pupae and prepupae featuring the highest expression of sHSPs. Results suggest that LtsHSPs play a role in the development of the invasive leaf miner fly and may facilitate insect adaptation to climate change.

Abstract:As an environmental factor, temperature impacts the distribution of species and influences interspecific competition. The molecular chaperones encoded by small heat shock proteins (sHsps) are essential for rapid, appropriate responses to environmental stress. This study focuses on Hsp20.8, which encodes a temperature-responsive sHsp in Liriomyza trifolii, an insect pest that infests both agricultural and ornamental crops. Hsp20.8 expression was highest at 39℃ in L. trifolii pupae and adults, and expression levels were greater in pupae than in adults. Recombinant Hsp20.8 was expressed in Escherichia coli and conferred a higher survival rate than the empty vector to bacterial cells exposed to heat stress. RNA interference experiments were conducted using L. trifolii adults and prepupae and the knockdown of Hsp20.8 expression increased mortality in L. trifolii during heat stress. The results expand our understanding of sHsp function in Liriomyza spp. and the ongoing adaptation of this pest to climate change. In addition, this study is also important for predicting the distribution of invasive species and proposing new prevention and control strategies based on temperature adaptation.

Abstract:Small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) function as molecular chaperones in multiple physiological processes and are active during thermal stress. sHSP expression is controlled by heat shock transcription factor (HSF); however, few studies have been conducted on HSF in agricultural pests. Liriomyza trifolii is an introduced insect pest of horticultural and vegetable crops in China. In this study, the master regulator, HSF1, was cloned and characterized from L. trifolii, and the expression levels of HSF1 and five sHSPs were studied during heat stress. HSF1 expression in L. trifolii generally decreased with rising temperatures, whereas expression of the five sHSPs showed an increasing trend that correlated with elevated temperatures. All five sHSPs and HSF1 showed an upward trend in expression with exposure to 40 ℃ without a recovery period. When a recovery period was incorporated after thermal stress, the expression patterns of HSF1 and sHSPs in L. trifolii exposed to 40 °C was significantly lower than expression with no recovery period. To elucidate potential interactions between HSF1 and sHSPs, double-stranded RNA was synthesized to knock down HSF1 in L. trifolii by RNA interference. The knockdown of HSF1 by RNAi decreased the survival rate and expression of HSP19.5, HSP20.8, and HSP21.3 during high-temperature stress. This study expands our understanding of HSF1-regulated gene expression in L. trifolii exposed to heat stress.

Abstract:Heat shock proteins (HSPs), well-known in respond to various kinds of stress situations, have been widely studied in Drosophila. However, a few reports related to silkworm bombyx mori . Genetic and non-genetic factors affecting on the expression of some HSPs in heat-treated silkworm were studied at the present paper. The mRNA levels of HSPs were quantified by real-time quantitative RT-PCR method and compared with their expression in the proteome profiles. The results showed up-regulation of two small heat shock proteins (sHSPs), HSP19.9 and HSP20.4 and down-regulation of HSP70 in the fat body, testis and ovary of heat exposed larvae. Higher variation of the sHSPs than HSP70 was observed in the different conditions such as heat exposures and genetic backgrounds. Significant difference in the HSP19.9 expression between two breeds was observed which implied the importance of this gene in the genetic differences. There was significant difference between responses of severe and mild heat shocks after 4 h heat recovery. The HSPs expression in male was significantly higher than that in female silkworm larva for all transcript measurements ( P < 0.001). Comparison of two methods of quantification showed a fair similarity between HSPs expression in the transcriptome and proteome levels. Nistari breed as a naturally thermo-tolerant breed was expressed lower HSPs than a thermo-sensitive breed.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Neisseria canis was isolated in pure culture from a mandibular abscess in a dog. Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration was used to obtain a sample from the abscess. Conventional bacteriological examination techniques followed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing from pure subculture and construction of a phylogenetic tree verified the isolate as N. canis. 16S rRNA sequence analysis revealed that a broader phylogenetic platform is needed in the part of the phylogenetic tree where the canine pathogenic N. canis isolate is located. The canine pathogenic isolate was found to be resistant to cephalexin and trimethoprim.
Genome-wide identification and coexpression network analysis of heat shock protein superfamily in Apolygus lucorum

Abstract:Heat shock proteins (Hsp) function as crucial molecular chaperones, playing pivotal roles in insects' response to stress stimuli. Apolygus lucorum, known for its broad spectrum of host plants and significant crop damage potential, presents a compelling subject for understanding stress response mechanisms. Hsp is important for A. lucorum to tolerate temperature and insecticide stress and may be involved in the formation of resistance to the interactive effects of temperature and insecticide. Here, we employed comprehensive genomic approaches to identify Hsp superfamily members in its genome. In total, we identified 42 Hsp genes, including 3 Hsp90, 16 Hsp70, 13 Hsp60, and 10 Hsp20. Notably, we conducted motif analysis and gene structures for Hsp members, which suggested the same families are relatively conserved. Furthermore, leveraging the weighted gene coexpression network analysis, we observed diverse expression patterns of different Hsp types across various tissues, with certain Hsp70 showing tissue-specific bias. Noteworthy among the highly expressed Hsp genes was testis-specific, which may serve as a pivotal hub gene regulating the gene network. Our findings shed light on the molecular evolutionary dynamics and temperature stress response mechanisms of Hsp genes in A. lucorum, offering insights into its adaptive strategies and potential targets for pest management.
Constitutively Expressed Small Heat Shock Protein LsHsp21.5 Not Only Enhances Heat Tolerance but Also Helps to Maintain Reproduction in Female Laodelphax Striatellus.

Abstract:Coping with stressful conditions and maintaining reproduction are two key biological processes that affect insect population dynamics. Small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) are involved in the stress response and the development of insects. The sHsp gene Laodelphax striatellus (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) sHsp 21.5 (LsHsp21.5) showed constitutive, stage- and organ-specific expression in L. striatellus, a pest that damages cultivated rice in east Asia. The expression of LsHsp21.5 was highest in the ovary, with 43.60, 12.99 and 1.45 time higher expression here than in the head, gut and female fat bodies, respectively. The expression of this gene was weakly affected by heat or cold shock. The gene provided in vitro protection against heat damage to malate dehydrogenase and in vivo protection against heat stress in Escherichia coli (Enterobacteriales: Enterobacteriaceae) BL21(DE3) and L. striatellus. Moreover, L. striatellus reproduction decreased by 1.85 times when the expression of LsHsp21.5 was inhibited by RNA interference. The expression of some genes related to reproduction, such as the homologous gene of chorion protein, also declined. These results suggest that LsHsp21.5 expression not only protects other proteins against stress but also helps maintain the stable expression of some reproduction-related genes under non-stressful conditions, with impacts on L. striatellus fecundity.

Abstract:Heat shock proteins (HSP) are essential molecular chaperones that play important roles in the stress stimulation of insects. Bemisia tabaci, a phloem feeder and invasive species, can cause extensive crop damage through direct feeding and transmission of plant viruses. Here we employed comprehensive genomics approaches to identity HSP superfamily members in the Middle East Asia Minor 1 whitefly genome. In total, we identified 26 Hsp genes, including three Hsp90, 17 Hsp70, one Hsp60 and five sHSP (small heat shock protein) genes. The HSP gene superfamily of whitefly is expanded compared with the other five insects surveyed here. The gene structures among the same families are relatively conserved. Meanwhile, the motif compositions and secondary structures of BtHsp proteins were predicted. In addition, quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis showed that the expression patterns of BtHsp gene superfamily were diverse across different tissues of whiteflies. Most Hsp genes were induced or repressed by thermal stress (40°C) and cold treatment (4°C) in whitefly. Silencing the expression of BtHsp70-6 significantly decreased the survival rate of whitefly under 45°C. All the results showed the Hsps conferred thermo-tolerance or cold-tolerance to whiteflies that protect them from being affected by detrimental temperature conditions. Our observations highlighted the molecular evolutionary properties and the response mechanism to temperature assaults of Hsp genes in whitefly.

Abstract:Six heat shock protein (HSP) genes from five HSP families in the parasitoid, Pteromalus puparum, were evaluated for their response to temperature (-15 ~ 3°C , and 30 ~ 42°C for 1 h), heavy metals (0.5 ~ 5 mM Cd(2+) and Cu(2+) for 24 h and 60 h), and starvation (24 h). Compared with other insect HSPs, all conserved motifs are found in P. puparum HSPs, and they are very similar to those of the recently sequenced ectoparasitoid Nasonia vitripennis. The temporal gene expression patterns indicated that these six HSP genes were all heat-inducible, of which hsp40 was the most inducible. The temperatures for maximal HSP induction at high and low temperature zone were 36 or 39°C and -3°C, respectively. In the hot zone, all HSP genes have the same initial temperature (33°C) for up-regulation. Low concentrations of Cd(2+) for a short-term promoted the expression of all HSP genes, but not high concentrations or long-term treatments. Cu(2+) stress for 24 h increased expression of nearly all HSP. Four HSP genes changed after starvation. We infer that all six HSP genes are sensitive to heat. This may help understand the absence of P. puparum during the summer and winter. The expression profiles of six HSP genes in P. puparum under heavy metal stress indicates that HSP is a short-term response to cellular distress or injury induced by Cd(2+) and Cu(2+).

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are a family of molecular chaperones that play important roles in the process of invasion and survival of nematodes. Although HSP70 has been identified in several parasitic nematodes, little is known of its distribution and function inHaemonchus contortus. The aims of this study were to characterize HSP70 fromHaemonchus contortus(designed as Hc-hsp70), express Hc-hsp70 and analyse the promoter activity inCaenorhabditis elegans. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that the open reading frame of the Hc-hsp70 cDNA encodes a 646-amino acid peptide, which is highly conserved in comparison to HSP70 in other nematodes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated thatH. contortusis closely related toCaenorhabditis. The 5′-flanking region promoted green fluorescence protein (GFP) expression in the intestine in all larval stages and adult with 2 expression patterns inC. elegans. Expression of Hc-hsp70 mRNA transcripts inC. elegansincreased following 2, 4, 6 h of heat shock and peaked at 4 h. However, its expression induced down-regulation ofhsp-1ofC. elegans. These results suggest that theH. contortushsp70 might have a similar function to that ofC. elegans hsp-1.
Roles of Three HSF Domain-Containing Proteins in Mediating Heat-Shock Protein Genes and Sustaining Asexual Cycle, Stress Tolerance, and Virulence in Beauveria Bassiana

Abstract:Heat-shock transcription factors (HSFs) with a HSF domain are regulators of fungal heat-shock protein (HSP) genes and many others vectoring heat-shock elements, to which the domain binds in response to heat shock and other stress cues. The fungal insect pathogen Beauveria bassiana harbors three HSF domain-containing orthologous to Hsf1, Sfl1, and Skn7 in many fungi. Here, we show that the three proteins are interrelated at transcription level, play overlapping or opposite roles in activating different families of 28 HSP genes and mediate differential expression of some genes required for asexual developmental and intracellular Na+ homeostasis. Expression levels of skn7 and sfl1 largely increased in Δhsf1, which is evidently lethal in some other fungi. Hsf1 was distinct from Sfl1 and Skn7 in activating most HSP genes under normal and heat-shocked conditions. Sfl1 and Skn7 played overlapping roles in activating more than half of the HSP genes under heat shock. Each protein also activated a few HSP genes not targeted by two others under certain conditions. Deletion of sfl1 resulted in most severe growth defects on rich medium and several minimal media at optimal 25°C while such growth defects were less severe in Δhsf1 and minor in Δskn7. Conidiation level was lowered by 76% in Δskn7, 62% in Δsfl1, and 39% in Δhsf1. These deletion mutants also showed differential changes in cell wall integrity, antioxidant activity, virulence and cellular tolerance to osmotic salt, heat shock, and UV-B irradiation. These results provide a global insight into vital roles of Hsf1, Sfl1, and Skn7 in B. bassiana adaptation to environment and host.

Abstract:Small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) function as ATP-independent chaperones that preserve cellular proteostasis under stressful conditions. In this study, Cshsp19.0, which encodes a new small heat shock protein, was isolated and characterized from Chilo suppressalis (Walker) to better understand the contribution of sHSPs to insect development and stress tolerance. The full-length Cshsp19.0 cDNA was 697 bp and encoded a 19.0 kDa protein with an isoelectric point of 5.95. Phylogenetic analysis and amino acid alignments indicated that Cshsp19.0 is a member of the sHSP family. Cshsp19.0 was expressed at maximal levels in foreguts and showed the least amount of expression in fat bodies. Expression analysis in different developmental stages of C. suppressalis revealed that Cshsp19.0 was most highly expressed in 1st instar larvae. Furthermore, Cshsp19.0 was upregulated when insects were exposed to heat and cold stress for a 2-h period. There were significant differences in the male and female pupae in response to humidity; Cshsp19.0 expression increased in male pupae as RH increased, whereas the inverse pattern was observed in female pupae. Larvae exhibited a lower rate of survival when Cshsp19.0 was silenced by a nanomaterial-promoted RNAi method. The results confirm that Cshsp19.0 functions to increase environmental stress tolerance and regulates physiological activities in C. suppressalis.

Abstract:Thermal adaptation plays a fundamental role in the expansion and distribution of insects, and heat shock proteins (Hsps) play important roles in the temperature adaptation of various organisms. To determine the roles of Hsp genes (Hsp70, Hsp21, and sHsp21) on the high temperature tolerance of Agasicles hygrophila, we obtained complete cDNA (complementary DNA) sequences for Hsp70, Hsp21, and sHsp21 by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE), analyzed their expression profiles under different high temperature treatments by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), and performed functional verification by RNA interference (RNAi). The open reading frames of Hsp70, Hsp21, and sHsp21 were 1940, 543, and 567 bp, encoding 650, 180, and 188 amino acids, respectively. Their molecular weights (MWs) were 71.757, 20.879, and 21.510 kDa, and the isoelectric points were 5.63, 6.45, and 6.24, respectively. Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that the Hsp70, Hsp21, and sHsp21 genes of A. hygrophila were relatively conserved in evolution. The Hsp70 and Hsp21 genes in A. hygrophila were homologous to those in Leptinotarsa decemlineata (87 and 79% similarity, respectively), and the sHsp21 gene in A. hygrophila was homologous to that in Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus (74% similarity). The amino acid polypeptide chain had highly conserved sequences of DLGGGTFD, VLVGGSTR, and GPTIEEVD. The sequence of EEVD was the characteristic motif of cytoplasmic Hsp70, and the highly conserved sequences of MALFR and MSLLP were characteristic sequences of Hsp2 and sHsp21, respectively. Relative quantitative real time PCR showed that the three Hsps could be induced by 4-h treatment at high temperatures. Significant upregulation of these Hsps was observed when the temperature was further increased. The RNAi results showed that the injection of the three Hsps' dsRNA could suppress the expression at the gene level significantly. Compared with the control group, high temperature heat shock reduced the fecundity of A. hygrophila significantly, and the fecundity decreased with the increase in temperature. Our results suggest that Hsp70, Hsp21, and sHsp21 might play key roles in high temperature adaptation of A. hygrophila and help improve our understanding of their mechanism of thermotolerance.

Abstract:Hylurgus ligniperda belongs to Hylurgus Latreille, Curculionidae, Coleoptera. It primarily damages the base and roots of the trunk of pine plants. Short-term treatment at 42 °C can damage Hylurgus ligniperda; therefore, temperature is a vital factor limiting its spread. Heat shock proteins (HSPs) can protect, remove, and repair proteins to help H. ligniperda withstand high temperatures. However, information on HSP genes in H. ligniperda remains limited. In the study, we considered H. ligniperda as the focus of research and identified 56 HligHSP genes at the genome-wide level. These genes were mapped to the cytoplasm or nucleus. An identical subfamily exhibited a closely similar distribution of conserved domains. Combined with the transcriptome data collected in previous studies, we screened six candidate genes, namely HligsHSP-3, HligsHSP-4, HligHSP60-16, HligHSP70-3, HligHSP70-4, and HligHSP90-1, which are specifically expressed during different high-temperature treatments. A quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to measure the expression of these six HligHSPs in seven temperature treatment conditions. These genes may be involved in the heat resistance mechanism in adults. Our findings provided a foundation for further studying the heat resistance mechanism in H. ligniperda.
Four Heat Shock Protein Genes Of The Endoparasitoid Wasp, Cotesia Vestalis, And Their Transcriptional Profiles In Relation To Developmental Stages And Temperature

Abstract:Heat shock proteins (Hsps) play important roles in the environmental adaptation of various organisms. To explore the functions of Hsps in relation to heat stress and development in Cotesia vestalis, a solitary larval endoparasitoid of Plutella xylostella, four heat shock protein genes, CvHsp40, CvHsc70, CvHsp70 and CvHsp90, were cloned and sequenced from C. vestalis by real-time quantitative PCR and RACE. The cDNA sequence of CvHsp40, CvHsc70, CvHsp70 and CvHsp90 were 1473 bp, 2316 bp, 2279 bp and 2663 bp long, which encode proteins with calculated molecular weights (MW) of 39.1 kDa, 71.2 kDa, 70.1 kDa and 83.3 kDa, respectively. Furthermore, the analysis of genomic DNA confirmed that no introns existed in CvHsp40, CvHsp70 and CvHsp90 while two introns were present in CvHsc70. The amino acid sequence analysis of CvHsps indicated that CvHsp40 is a Type II Hsp40 homolog, CvHsp70 and CvHsc70 are the eukaryotic cytoplasmic Hsp70s, and CvHsp90 is the beta-isoform of Hsp90. The divergent transcriptional patterns of CvHsp40, CvHsp70 and CvHsp90 in the different developmental stages suggested that CvHsp transcripts were under different mechanisms of regulation during the development of parasitoid larvae. The dramatic increase of transcripts of CvHsp70 at the third-instar larva coincided with its developmental change in this stage, that is, from inside host to outside host. CvHsp40, CvHsc70 and CvHsp70 showed a trend of sex-specific differences of transcript abundance in the adult stage. All CvHsp transcripts in different developmental stages were significantly induced by heat stress, and the lowest transcript abundances appeared around the temperature 27 degrees C, which probably suggest that this is the most favorable temperature for the development of C. vestalis. Our results suggest that the expression of heat shock proteins reflects to some extent the developmental changes and environmental requirements of insects.
Characterization, and Functional Analysis of Hsp70 and Hsp90 Gene Families in Glyphodes pyloalis Walker (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)

Abstract:Glyphodes pyloalis Walker (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a destructive mulberry pest, causing great damage to mulberry in China. Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are involved in various signal pathways and regulate lots of physiological processes in insects. The function of Hsps in G. pyloalis , however, has still received less attention. Here, we identified five Hsp genes from G. pyloalis transcriptome dataset including two Hsp70 family genes ( GpHsp71.3 and GpHsp74.9 ) and three Hsp90 family genes ( GpHsp82.4 , GpHsp89 , and GpHsp93.4 ). Quantitative Real-time PCR validation revealed that all Hsps of G. pyloalis have significant expression in pupal and diapause stage, at which the larvae arrest the development. Expressions of GpHsp71.3 and GpHsp82.4 were increased significantly after thermal treatment at 40°C, and this upregulation depended on heat treatment duration. Furthermore, silencing GpHsp82.4 by RNA interference led to a significant increase in mortality of G. pyloalis larvae under the heat stress compared to the control group. After starvation stress, the expression levels of GpHsp82.4 and GpHsp93.4 were significantly increased. At last, after being parasitized by the parasitoid wasp Aulacocentrum confusum , Hsp70 and Hsp90 genes of G. pyloalis were decreased significantly in the early stage of parasitization and this moderation was affected by time post-parasitization. This study highlights the function of G. pyloalis Hsps in response to environmental stress and provides a perspective for the control of this pest.
