Abstract:BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Organized deposits are present in amyloidosis, fibrillary GN, and immunotactoid glomerulopathy. However, the constituents of the deposits are not known. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS Laser microdissection of glomeruli followed by mass spectrometry was performed to determine the composition of the deposits. The results were compared with cryoglobulinemic GN. RESULTS The results are divided into four major groups: amyloidogenic proteins, structural/other proteins, complement proteins, and Igs. With regards to amyloidogenic proteins, large spectra numbers of apolipoprotein E are noted in amyloidosis (41.8±20.9) compared with fibrillary (15.6±12.5) and immunotactoid (12.3±12) glomerulopathy. Apolipoprotein E was absent in cryoglobulinemic GN. Serum amyloid P component is present in large spectra numbers in amyloidosis (14.1±6.7) and small spectra numbers in immunotactoid glomerulopathy, but it is absent in fibrillary and cryoglobulinemic GN. However, large spectra numbers of Ig γ-1 chain C region are present in immunotactoid glomerulopathy (47.3±34.6) compared with fibrillary (16.25±19.7) and cryoglobulinemic (13.3±4.9) GN. All cases of Ig light chain-associated amyloidosis showed spectra for the respective Ig light-chain C region (mean=10±1.7). CONCLUSIONS Based on the spectra numbers, the study shows that the relative amount of apolipoprotein E to Ig light-chain C region/amyloidogenic proteins or Ig γ-1 chain C region is associated with the organization of the deposits in amyloidosis, fibrillary GN, and immunotactoid glomerulopathy. However, the absence of apolipoprotein E correlates with the lack of fibrillar deposits in cryoglobulinemic GN.

Abstract:A simple and efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method was established with magnetic covalent organic framework (COF) as adsorbent to enrich organophosphorus pesticides from fatty milk samples, followed by the sensitive determination via LC-MS/MS. The key parameters influencing the MSPE efficiency were comprehensively investigated to afford an optimized procedure. All the target analytes could be captured directly by magnetic COF from milk without protein precipitation, making the pretreatment rapid and convenient. Systematic method validation demonstrated its satisfactory linearity, recoveries (80.0-105 %), and precision (RSDs <12.3 %). The method limits of quantification were 0.2-0.5 μg L−1. A comparison experiment to the reported solid-phase extraction fully verified the present MSPE more rapid, accurate, and environment-friendly. Furthermore, FT-IR and XPS analysis were performed to reveal the adsorption mechanisms of magnetic COF to organophosphorus pesticides, which could offer guidance on the rational design of COF adsorbent for various target analytes.

Boronic acid functionalized of covalent organic framework for high performance capture of trace phthalates

Abstract:In order to improve the enrichment performance of parent covalent organic frameworks (COFs), boronic acid functionalized of COF (COF-B(OH) 2 ) was obtained by a simple standing method for the first time. The obtained COF-B(OH) 2 exhibited the new characteristics that were not possessed by pure COF and was employed as the solid phase microextraction (SPME) coating material for highly efficient enrichment of trace endocrine disruptors phthalates (PAEs). Compared to pure COF, the synergistic effect of the newly emerged unique pore structure and boric acid interaction sites, and the large specific surface area and the abundant benzene ring structure inherited by original COF framework endowed COF-B(OH) 2 with enhanced enrichment performance for PAEs. Combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), COF-B(OH) 2 exhibited the good linearity over a wide concentration of 0.1-3000 ng L -1 with good coefficients (R 2 , 0.9916-0.9998) for PAEs. The developed method was successfully employed for detection of trace PAEs in milk and water samples, demonstrating high recoveries (90.6-111.3%). This work provides a sustainable approach to developing high-performance materials for enriching environmental pollutants.

Carboxyl-functionalized Magnetic Amide-Linked Covalent Organic Framework for Efficient Extraction of Multi-Class Mycotoxins from Soybeans Prior to HPLC-MS/MS Analysis

Abstract:Mycotoxins co -contamination in soybean poses great risks to human health, however, due to their diverse structures, it is difficult to simultaneously extract and detect these multi-mycotoxins. By incorporating modification of hydrophilic carboxyl groups with the hydrophobic properties of covalent organic frameworks, a stable cubic carboxyl-functionalized magnetic amide -linked covalent organic framework were fabricated, characterized and utilized as adsorbents for magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of eleven frequently detected mycotoxins from soybeans followed by HPLC-MS/MS analysis. The key MSPE parameters were screened using the PlackettBurman design and optimized with the Box-Behnken design for response surface methodologies. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the linear range was 0.2-50 mu g/kg, the limits of detection were 0.1-1.4 mu g/kg. The established method was applied for the soybean analysis with satisfactory recoveries (70.8-108.3%) and precision (intra- and inter -relative standard deviations of 2.1-9.2% and 1.6-11.1%, respectively). With proper modification, this method may have great application potential for simultaneously analyzing and monitoring the multi-mycotoxin contamination in foods to ensure consumer safety and public health.
Facile synthesis of trifluoromethyl covalent organic framework for the efficient microextraction of per-and polyfluorinated alkyl substances from milk products

Abstract:Trifluoromethyl covalent organic framework (CF3-COF) is facilely synthesized at room temperature using for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The CF3-COF coating displays an improved extraction performance for per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFASs) comparing to amorphous polymer coating, non-contained fluorine covalent organic framework coating and commercially available SPME coating. The fluorine affinity of trifluoromethyl in CF3-COF for PFASs is demonstrated using the density functional theory calculation. Following the microextraction with CF3-COF-coated fiber, the targeted PFASs are eluted with 1 mL acetonitrile and quantified by ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The low limits of detection are 0.1-0.7 pg g-1 for milk and 0.2-0.8 pg g-1 for milk powder, suggesting the outstanding sensitivity. The precision for the method ranges between 2.9 and 9.9%. The fiber-to-fiber repeatability is in the range of 4.2-9.5%. Under the optimum conditions, the relative recoveries are 91.0-110% with RSDs ≤ 10% for milk and 89.8-111% with RSDs ≤ 10% for milk powder.
Metal organic framework/covalent organic framework composite for solid-phase microextraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in milk samples

Abstract:Based on the excellent physicochemical properties of metal organic framework (MOF) and covalent organic framework (COF), a novel MOF/COF composite was designed and prepared as coating fiber for headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME). Based on the amino group on the surface of as-synthesized UiO-66-NH 2 , porphyrin-based COF was covalently grown on the MOF surface by using tetra(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin and 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxaldehyde as building blocks to fabricate a novel MOF/COF composite. Subsequently, the composite was physically coated on the surface of polished stainless-steel wire for HS-SPME of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) determination. The morphology and structure of the MOF/COF composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and N 2 adsorption-desorption. Influential adsorption and desorption parameters were optimized and the extraction mechanism was also discussed. Under optimal conditions, an HS-SPME/GC-FID method based on MOF/COF composite coated fiber was established for the analysis of PAHs in milk samples. The linear ranges of this method were 0.2-50.0 ng mL -1 (R 2 > 0.9908), and the limits of detection and quantitation were in the range of 0.02-0.07 ng mL -1 and 0.07-0.24 ng mL -1 , respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for PAHs were all less than 7.05%, which indicated eminent repeatability and reproducibility of the established method. Besides, the enrichment factors for PAHs were relatively high in the range of 2003 to 7763, and the recoveries for milk samples were ranged from 85.43% to 115.8% with satisfactory RSDs of 0.92-9.00%.

Abstract:In this work, Fe3O4/Tp-BHBD beta-ketoenamine covalent organic framework (COF) was rapidly prepared. Then, it was used as magnetic solid phase microextraction (MSPE) adsorbents for the adsorption and determination of organophosphate ester (OPE) residues in surface water coupling with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results of material characterization tests confirmed the generation of magnetized COF. The adsorption process was optimized by Box-Behnken Design and one-factor optimization experiments. After five use cycles, Fe3O4/Tp-DHBD still achieved good adsorption and high recovery. Under the optimal conditions, the developed Fe3O4/Tp-DHBD COF-MSPE-HPLC-MS/MS method obtained good linearity for 12 OPEs within 0.25-50.0 ng mL-1 and the limit of detection of 0.02-0.18 ng mL-1. The relative standard deviations were less than 8.6 %. Rapid detection and analysis of three samples from wastewater treatment plant showed that the recoveries of most of target OPEs at different spiked concentrations ranged from 62.0 % to 116.9 %, 60.9 %-115.1 %, and 60.4 %-112.9 %, respectively. In general, the established COF-MSPE method can provide convenient and satisfactory purification for OPEs compounds in surface water by adsorption and desorption, which is promising for specific applications.
Facile synthesis of spherical covalent organic frameworks for enrichment and quantification of aryl organophosphate esters in mouse serum and tissues

Abstract:Here, an imine‐linked‐based spherical covalent organic framework (COF) was prepared at room temperature. The as‐synthesized spherical COF served as an adsorbent in dispersive solid‐phase extraction (dSPE), by its virtue of great surface area (1542.68 m2/g), regular distribution of pore size (2.95 nm), and excellent stability. Therefore, a simple and high‐efficiency dispersive solid phase extraction method based on a spherical COF coupled with high‐performance liquid chromatography‐tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC‐MS/MS) was established to determine aryl organophosphate esters in biological samples. This approach displayed favorable linearity in the range of 10.0–1000.0 ng/L (r > 0.9989), a high signal enhancement factor (58.8–181.8 folds) with low limits of detection (0.3–3.3 ng/L). Moreover, it could effectively eliminate complex matrix interference to accurately extract seven aryl organophosphate esters from mouse serum and tissue samples with spiked recoveries of 82.0%–117.4%. The as‐synthesized spherical COF has been successfully applied in sample preparation. The dSPE‐HPLC‐MS/MS method based on a spherical COF has potential application to study the pollutants' metabolism in vivo.

Abstract:Developing adsorbents with high performance and long service life for effective extracting the trace organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) from real water is attracting numerous attentions. Herein, a self-standing covalent organic framework (COF-TpPa) membrane with fiber morphology was successfully synthesized by using electrospun nanofiber membranes as template and employed as solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coating for ultra-high sensitivity extraction and analysis of trace OCPs in water. The as-synthesized COF-TpPa membrane exhibited a high specific surface area (800.83 m2 g-1), stable nanofibrous structure, and excellent chemical and thermal stability. Based on the COF-TpPa membrane, a new SPME analytical method in conjunction with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was established. This proposed method possessed favorable linearity in concentration of 0.05-2000 ng L-1, high sensitivity with enrichment factors ranging from 2175 to 5846, low limits of detection (0.001-0.150 ng L-1), satisfactory precision (RSD < 10 %), and excellent repeatability (>150 cycles), which was better than most of the reported works. Additionally, the density functional theory (DFT) calculations and XPS results demonstrated that the outstanding enrichment performance of the COF-TpPa membrane was owing to synergistic effect of π-π stacking effects, high specific surface area and hydrogen bonding. This work will expect to extend the applications of COF membrane to captures trace organic pollutants in complex environmental water, as well as offer a multiscale interpretation for the design of effective adsorbents.

Abstract:Detecting and analyzing of the trace organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in the real water has become a big challenge. In this work, a novel functional electrospun nanofiber membrane () was synthesized through the in situ growth of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) on a polyacrylonitrile electrospun nanofiber membranes under room temperature and used in the solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME) to enrich trace organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in water. The resulted composite consisted of numerous nanofibers coated ample porous COFs spheres (~ 500 nm) and owned stable crystal structure, abundant functional groups, good stability. In addition, the enrichment experiments clearly revealed that exhibited rather outstanding performance on adsorbing the trace OCPs (as low as 10 ng L−1) with the enrichment of 482–2686 times. Besides, displayed good reusability and could be reused 100 times. Notably, in the real water samples (sea water and river water), the high enrichment factors and recovery rates strongly confirmed the feasibility of for detecting the trace OCPs. Furthermore, due to the synergy of π-π stacking interaction and hydrophobic interaction between the OCPs molecules and , the OCPs could be efficiently adsorbed on , even under the extremely low driving force.

Preparation of cationic hierarchical porous covalent organic frameworks for rapid and effective enrichment of perfluorinated substances in dairy products

Abstract:Perfluorinated substances (PFASs) are harmful pollutants that have environmental persistence and high bioaccumulation. Effective sample pretreatment must be performed to detect trace or even ultra-trace PFASs in actual samples because of their extremely low contents in complex samples. In this study, a cationic hierarchical porous covalent organic frameworks (C-H-COF) were customized via a template-assisted strategy using polystyrene spheres (PS) as sacrificial materials and a post-synthetic modification method. C-H-COF showed good adsorption selectivity for PFASs owing to the dual effects of the full utilization of the internal adsorption sites and electrostatic interaction. The key role of electrostatic attraction in the extraction of PFASs using C-H-COF was further proven by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The maximum adsorption capacity of the C-H-COF for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was 400 mg·g⁻1, which was superior to that of microporous COFs (M-COF) and hierarchical porous COFs without cationic functionalization (H-COF). Accordingly, an analytical method for sensitively detecting five PFASs was established by employing C-H-COF as a dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE) adsorbent combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), and the limits of detection were 0.011‒0.29 ng·L⁻1. Moreover, the hierarchical porous structure of the C-H-COF accelerated the mass transfer of analytes so that the extraction process could be completed within 10 min. This method was employed to analyze PFASs in dairy products, in which the ultra-trace levels of analytes were quickly determined with spiked recoveries of 80.1‒112.6%. This work not only provides a rational synthetic strategy for novel ionic hierarchical porous COFs but also helps to expand the application of COFs in sample pretreatment.
Ultrasound-assisted rapid growth of chemically bonded bifunctional mesoporous covalent organic framework submicrospheres on a nickel-chromium alloy support for efficient solid-phase microextraction of bisphenols from water and milk samples

Abstract:A layer-by-layer chemical bonding strategy was developed for fast in situ growth of bifunctional mesoporous covalent organic framework submicrospheres (COF SMSs) on the nickel-chromium alloy (Ni-Cr) fiber substrate via the ultrasound-assisted Schiff-base reaction for the first time. COF SMSs showed well-defined morphology, extraordinary high surface area (1211 m2·g-1) and narrow mesopore (2.50 nm) as well as excellent stability. Furthermore, the resulting Ni-Cr fiber presented outstanding adsorption capability and improved selectivity for bisphenols (BPs). Consequently, an attractive SPME-HPLC-UV approach with the Ni-Cr@Ni-Cr LDHs NSs@COF SMSs fiber was proposed for rapid preconcentration and sensitive determination of BPs. By optimizing adsorption parameters, the SPME-HPLC-UV method presented good linearity for five BPs in the ranges of 0.02-200 ng·mL-1 with coefficients of determination (R2) higher than 0.999. Limits of detection and limits of quantitation were obtained from 0.003 ng·mL-1 to 0.006 ng·mL-1 and from 0.010 to 0.019 ng·mL-1, respectively. Moreover, the intra-day and inter-day precision expressed as relative standard deviations (RSDs) was 1.57-3.52 % and 2.65-4.38 % for the proposed method with a single fiber, respectively. RSDs of the proposed method with different duplicate fibers were 3.25-6.72 %. The proposed SPME-HPLC-UV method was available for efficient preconcentration and sensitive detection of five BPs from real water and milk samples. The relative recoveries at three spiking levels of BPs were achieved in the range of 80.00-118.8 % with RSDs below 7.81 %. In addition, the prepared fiber still exhibited satisfactory adsorption performance after 120 adsorption-desorption cycles.
In-situ fabrication of a chlorine-functionalized covalent organic framework coating for solid-phase microextraction of polychlorinated biphenyls in surface water

Abstract:The functionalization of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) identifies significant potential for developing selective coating materials for solid-phase microextraction (SPME). Herein, a chlorine-functionalized covalent organic framework (CF-COF) was in-situ synthesized by employing triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and 2,5-dichloro-1,4-phenylenediamine (2,5-DCA) as monomers on an amino-functionalized stainless steel wire. The obtained CF-COF coated fiber exhibited a higher enrichment capacity for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) than commercial fibers and non-chlorinated COF fiber, owing to a more hydrophobic surface, size-matching effect, a large number of micropores and the π–π stacking interactions between COF coating and analytes. As a practical application, the CF-COF coated fiber was applied to the headspace extraction of 17 PCBs prior to their quantification by GC/MS. The established analytical method offered a good linearity in the range of 0.1 − 1000 ng L-1, low detection limits of 0.0015-0.0088 ng L−1, and satisfactory enhancement factors (EFs) of 699 - 4281. The repeatability for single fiber and the fiber-to-fiber reproducibility was lower than 9.26% and 9.33%, respectively. The proposed method was verified to be sensitive, selective, and applicable for the analysis of ultra-trace PCBs in environmental surface water samples with the recoveries ranged from 78.7% to 124.0%.

External surface hydrophilic 3D-POSS-COF@GDL for the direct adsorption of bisphenols in milk samples

Abstract:In case of organic frameworks (COFs) as adsorbents in the pretreatment of complex food matrices, challenges such as poor dispersion and non-specific adsorption of interfering macromolecules like proteins are often encountered. To address this issue, this work prepared a three-dimensional covalent organic framework (3D-COF) with a novel bcu topology based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS). Subsequently, gluconolactone (GDL) was modified onto the external surface of the material via the reaction with the exposed reactive residues. The resulting POSS-COF@GDL adsorbent has an enhanced hydrophilicity in the external surface, thereby significantly improves the dispersion of materials in aqueous solution and reduces the adsorption ability toward protein. Whereas, the inner of material retains hydrophobic pores that exhibit high adsorption efficiency to small hydrophobic molecules. Compared with the traditional pretreatment methods, POSS-COF@GDL can directly extract bisphenols (BPs) in milk samples without any additional treatment. The established sample pretreatment method is coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV), resulting in recoveries of 71.8 to 93.6%, intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) of <8.3%, and limits of detection (LODs) of 0.042-0.16 ng∙mL-1 for four BPs.

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) via Schiff base-type linkages (1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol–paraphenylenediamine, TpPa-1), as an ideal coating, possesses significant potential for solid-phase microextraction (SPME) due to their fascinating properties, such as outstanding thermal and chemical stabilities, inherent porosity, and high crystallinity. A novel SPME device was fabricated based on TpPa-1 as an enrichment coating for capturing trace polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). This TpPa-1 coating exhibited a superior enrichment capacity in “catching” PBDEs over commercial SPME fibers. Such performance is attributed to multiple factors, including the coating’s hydrophobic nature, π-π stacked architectures, large specific surface area, high thermal stability, and size-matching effect. High enhancement factors of 2035–6859, low detection limits of 0.0058–0.022 ng L−1, satisfactory linear range of 0.01–100 ng L−1, good repeatability of 4.86%–9.33%, and excellent reproducibility of 5.62%–9.85% were achieved. Finally, as expected, as the most sensitive SMPE technique for detecting PBDEs, to the best of our knowledge, the developed SPME procedure in combination with gas chromatography–negative chemical ion–mass spectrometry analysis was proven to be ultrasensitive, dependable, and practical in analyzing PBDE species in real water. These exceptional results signify that the proposed method offers a fresh prospect to extend the potential applications of COFs to pick up pollutants at ultra-low levels from environmental samples.

Abstract:Owing to the high lipophilicity of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB), they easily accumulate in dairy products. Although usually present at very low levels, they pose a serious threat to human health. Therefore, developing a sensitive and reliable method for detecting PCB in dairy products is crucial. Herein, Herein, a metal-organic framework (MOF) material named with bimetallic nodes and double ligands was prepared as a precursor using a one-pot hydrothermal method. Defective porous urchin-like ZnO/NiO, derived from these MOF-based precursors (ZnNi-MOF-NH 2 ) as a sacrificial template, was synthesized via pyrolysis to remove heat-sensitive ligands. To the best of our knowledge, this urchin-like nanostructured ZnO/NiO hybrid was utilized as a solid-phase microextraction (SPME) coating for the first time. Headspace SPME (HS-SPME) was developed for non-contact extraction of PCB in milk prior to gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS) analysis. Under optimal conditions, the HS-SPME–GC–MS/MS method exhibited a wide linear range (0.01–1000 ng·L −1 ), low limits of detection (0.003–0.025 ng·L −1 ), and high enrichment factors (5714–9906). Additionally, the performance of the ZnO/NiO SPME fiber coating showed no noticeable decrease after 175 uses. The method was applied to trace PCB analysis in milk samples, yielding recoveries of 70.3–114.1 %. The ZnO/NiO derived from MOF-based material provides a promising candidate for SPME coatings to extract PCB and other analogs.

Abstract:A magnetic covalent organic framework (M-COF) was designed and selected as sorbent for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of AFM1 and AFM2 in milk, followed by LC–MS/MS analysis. The application of 2,5-Dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde (Dt) and 4′,5′-bis(4-aminophenyl)-[1,1′:2′,1″-terphenyl]-4,4″-diamine (BAPTPDA) as monomers endows M-COF excellent properties for adsorbing AFM1 and AFM2. The morphology, structure, stability, and magnetism of the Fe3O4@COF(BAPTPDA-Dt) were characterized by various techniques including scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, FTIR, thermogravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The Fe3O4 microspheres were covered by COF shells. Fe3O4@COF exhibited excellent magnetism and stability. Some parameters that may influence the adsorption efficiency of MSPE were also optimized, making the extraction process more effective, time-saving (about 3 min), and less organic-reagent-consuming (only 4 mL of acetonitrile required). It is noteworthy that the Fe3O4@COF(BAPTPDA-Dt) can be reutilized more than 8 times. The AFM1 and AFM2 were determined by LC–MS/MS. The LODs for AFM1 and AFM2 were in the range 0.0069 to 0.0078 μg kg−1. A wide linearity range (0.01–100 μg kg−1) with coefficients of determination (R2) ranging from 0.9998 to 0.9999 was obtained. The recoveries at four spiked concentrations (0.05, 0.5, 5, and 50 μg kg−1) in the milk matrix ranged from 85.2 to 106.5%. The intraday RSDs and the interday RSDs were in the range 1.74–4.58% and 2.65–6.69%, respectively. The matrix effect (9.3% for AFM1 and 6.7% for AFM2) was also significantly lower than that observed in other work . Overall, the established method has provided a powerful tool for rapid pretreatment and sensitive determination of AFM1 and AFM2 in milk with negligible matrix effect, presenting important value in toxicant determination.

Abstract:A zirconium-based metal-organic framework material (UiO-66-OH) was designed and applied for the first time as an adsorbent in food analysis for the solid phase microextraction of trace polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) from milk. The materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analyses. Through response surface methodology, the optimal conditions for adsorption were determined to as follows: extraction time of 30 min, ionic strength of 15%, extraction temperature of 61 degrees C, and stirring speed of 880 r/min. Under the optimal conditions, the method showed excellent linearity with a high correlation coefficient (r >= 0.9994), low limits of detection in the range of 0.15-0.35 ng L-1, good interday precision ranging of 7.58%-9.48%, and satisfactory recoveries of 74.7%-118.0%. All these findings showed that the method was reliable and effective for detecting trace PBDEs in milk.
In-situ growth of a covalent organic framework-based matrix-compatible microextraction coating for sensitive extraction of multiple pesticides

Abstract:The potential pesticide hazard to non-target organisms is a global concern. It is critical to develop the sensitive detection methods of multiple pesticides in various complex matrices. Here, benzene-1,3,5-tricarbaldehyde (BTCA) and 1,3,5-Tri (4-aminophenyl) benzene (TAPB) were employed as precursors for the in-situ growth of COFTAPB-BTCA on the surface of amino-functionalized stainless steel wire (SS) via a solvothermal method. The successful COFTAPB-BTCA bonded fiber exhibited significant enrichment capability of pyrethroids insecticides (PYs), organophosphorus (OPPs), and organochlorine (OCPs), with enrichment factors (EFs) ranging from 1133-7762, 1319-7291, and 734.1-2882, respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicated that various interactions contributed to its high enrichment capacity. Automated detection of PYs, OPPs, and OCPs in water, foods, and biological samples was realized by coupling this fiber with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The detection limits were as low as 0.0370-0.657 ng/L, 0.0128-0.400 ng/L, and 0.0329-0.202 ng/L for PYs, OPPs, and OCPs, respectively. In addition, the environmental risks of these samples were assessed based on the above data. This work not only provided a straightforward technique for sensitive monitoring of pesticides in complex matrices but also presented a novel approach for the in-situ controlled growth of versatile adsorbents with broad-spectrum properties.

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are attractive materials for sample pretreatment due to their tunable structures and functions. However, the precise recognition of contaminant in complex environmental matrices by COFs remains challenging owing to their insufficient specific active sites. Herein, we report Co2+ coordination-assisted molecularly imprinted flexible COF (MI-COF@Co2+) for selective recognition of ochratoxin A (OTA). The MI-COF@Co2+ was prepared via one-step polymerization of 3,3-dihydroxybenzidine, 2,4,6-tris(4-formylphenoxy)- 1,3,5-triazine, Co2+ and template. The flexible units endowed COFs with the self-adaptable ability to regulate the molecular conformation and coordinate with Co2+ to locate the imprinted cavities. The coordination interaction greatly improved the adsorption capacity and selectivity of MI-COF@Co2+ for OTA. The prepared MI-COF@Co2+ was used as solid phase extraction adsorbent for high-performance liquid chromatography determination of OTA with the detection limit of 0.03 ng mL-1 and the relative standard deviation of < 2.5 %. In addition, this method permitted interference-free determination of OTA in real samples with recovery from 89.5 % to 102.8 %. This work provides a simple way to improve the selectivity of COFs for the determination of hazardous compounds in complex environments.
