Abstract:Abstract Background We combined anatomy with imaging, transformed the 2D information of various imaging techniques into 3D information, and form the assessment system of real medical imaging cases in order to make up for the deficiencies in the current teaching of the medical imaging technology students. Methods A total of 460 medical imaging students were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The research group received the teaching of the fusion of the original CT and MR data 3D model and the original image combined with 3D anatomical image. CT and MRI data are imported through load DICOM of 3D slicer. Different tissues and organs are segmented by threshold and watershed algorithm of segment editor module. Models are exported through export / import models and label maps in segmentation. Save the NHDR file of the original data and Obj file of the corresponding model through save the NHDR and corresponding Obj files are loaded into probe 1.0 software. The software can give different colors to the three-dimensional models of different organs or tissues to display the stereo models and related data, and display the hook edges of organ models on coronal, sagittal and axial images. At the same time, annotation can be established in the corresponding anatomical position. Finally, it can be saved as a single file of Hwl, and the teaching can be opened at any time through the program of probe 1.0. Statistical analysis Academic self-efficacy scale and Self-directed learning ability scale was adopted by self-directed learning evaluation scale between two groups. Results Compare the theoretical scores and case analysis scores of the two groups. The scores of the study and control groups were significantly higher than those of the control group. Before the experiment, no significant difference was detected in the self-efficacy of learning ability and learning behavior between the two groups, while after the experiment, these differences between the two groups were statistically significan. Moreover, the learning ability self-efficacy and learning behavior of the two groups of students after the experiment was significantly higher than that before the experiment. The self-efficacy of the learning behavior of the control group was higher after the experiment than that before the experiment, albeit the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions The modern, information-based and humanized experimental teaching mode will be constantly improved under the support of PACS system in order to optimize the medical imaging teaching activities for the development of modern medical education.

Practice and exploration of PBL combined with MDT in clinical teaching of ovarian malignant tumor

Abstract:Objective To explore the teaching effect of problem-based learning（PBL）combined with multi-disciplinary treatment（MDT）mode in ovarian cancer unit of clinical oncology in medical graduate students. Methods A total of 54 medical master and doctoral students from Zhejiang University were selected.PBL combined MDT teaching mode was adopted in the unit of ovarian cancer,and traditional teaching mode was adopted in unit of prostate cancer.After class,questionnaire survey was used to comprehensively evaluate the teaching effect of the two teaching models. Results The favorable reception rate and worthy promoting rate of PBL combined with MDT teaching mode were higher than those of traditional teaching mode,and the differences were statistically significant（χ~2=9.56,7.94,P＜0.05）.PBL combined with MDT teaching mode has obvious advantages in improving learning enthusiasm,independent learning ability,clinical ideation,cooperative spirit,problem-solving ability,and language expression ability and increasing course interest,the differences were statistically significant（χ~2=33.66,36.75,26.14,21.51,21.01,31.68,26.88,P＜0.05）. Conclusion PBL combined with MDT model has good teaching effect on clinical oncology,which is worthy of further exploration and practice in clinical oncology education.

Abstract:Objective To explore the application and effect of three-dimensional animation teaching software combined with case based learning ( CBL ) in inguinal hernia clinical teaching . Methods Totally 30 eight-year program students of Grade 2008 of Peking University People's Hos-pital were randomly divided into the teaching software combined with the CBL group(n=15) and tradi-tional teaching group(n=15). Three-dimensional animation teaching software was used to simulate the whole process of inguinal hernia anatomy and physiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diag-nosis and treatment in teaching software combined with CBL group. CBL teaching was conducted by setting problems through typical case and case discussion under the guidance of the teacher . The teacher-centered teaching, teaching rounds and watching operation were used in the traditional teaching group . Theory examination and physical examination were given at the end of the study and achieve-ment differences were compared between 2 groups. Questionnaire was used to investigate students' evaluation of the teaching method in teaching software combined with the CBL group and data were statistically described using t test. Results Theoretical exam score of the teaching software combined with the CBL group was (94.80±1.54), superior to the traditional teaching group(86.10±1.86), and the difference was statistically significant(t=8.242, P=0.000). Clinical skill test score of the teaching software combined with the CBL group was (91.10±1.01), superior to the traditional teaching group (85.90±2.17), and the difference was statistically significant(t=8.531, P=0.000). The survey result showed that more than 80.00% students thought that this teaching method could arouse students' learning enthusiasm, promote their mastery and application of knowledge, strengthen their self-study ability, cultivating their clinical thinking and improving their learning efficiency. Conclusion The teaching method of three dimensional animation teaching software combined with CBL , as a new teaching mode, helps to improve the quality of teaching.
Effects of selenazofurin and ribavirin and their 5'-triphosphates on replicative functions of influenza A and B viruses

Abstract:We studied the effects of selenazofurin alone and in combination with ribavirin on replication of influenza A and B viruses. These drugs showed little cytotoxicity as measured by leucine incorporation into protein in MDCK cells, although they were potent inhibitors of viral replication in the same cells. Selenazofurin inhibited growth of influenza A and B viruses at concentrations (50% inhibitory dose = 25 and 19 microM, respectively) which were similar to those at which growth was inhibited by ribavirin (50% inhibitory dose = 50 and 30 microM, respectively). The inhibition of replication of either influenza A or B virus was additive for any combination of ribavirin and selenazofurin. The effects of the 5'-triphosphate of selenazofurin on two replicative functions associated with the influenza virus RNA-dependent RNA polymerases, primer generation (initiation of transcription) and its subsequent elongation, were measured. Elongation was more sensitive to selenazofurin 5'-triphosphate than was primer generation, and the effects of this drug on these functions were approximately the same as those of ribavirin 5'-triphosphate. The activities of ribavirin triphosphate and selenazofurin triphosphate were additive, and combinations did not potentiate the individual inhibitory effects of these drugs on elongation.

Abstract:Background Augmented reality (AR) technology is gradually being applied in surgical teaching as an innovative teaching method. Developing innovative teaching methods to replicate clinical theory and practical teaching scenarios, simulate preoperative planning and training for bone tumor surgery, and offer enhanced training opportunities for young physicians to acquire and apply clinical knowledge is a crucial concern that impacts the advancement of the discipline and the educational standards for young orthopedic physicians. Objective This study explores the application effect of augmented reality technology in anatomy teaching and surgical clinical teaching for spinal tumor. Methods The method utilizes virtual reality and augmented reality technology to present a spinal tumor model and the surgical process of percutaneous vertebroplasty. We conducted a random selection of 12 students forming into the augmented reality teaching group and 13 students forming into the traditional teaching group among the 8-year medical students from Peking Union Medical College and Tsinghua University, ensuring that the age and learning stage of the students in both groups were similar. Two groups of students were taught using traditional teaching methods and augmented reality technology-assisted teaching methods, respectively. A questionnaire survey was conducted after class to assess the quality of course instruction, student motivation in learning, their proficiency in anatomical structures, their comprehension of spinal tumor growth and metastasis, and their understanding and proficiency in percutaneous vertebroplasty. Results This study was the first to apply augmented reality technology in teaching, using spinal tumors and percutaneous vertebroplasty as examples, a head-mounted augmented reality device was used to create learning scenarios, presenting the complex three-dimensional spatial structure intuitively. The two groups of students differ significantly in their rating of teaching quality, enthusiasm for learning, knowledge of anatomical features, understanding of spinal trabecular structure, and understanding of steps in percutaneous vertebroplasty. The augmented reality technology-assisted teaching system demonstrates outstanding advantages. Conclusion Augmented reality technology has great potential and broad prospects in teaching bone tumors, which can help improve the visualization, interactivity, and three-dimensional spatial sense of medical teaching in spinal tumor. The application and development prospects of using augmented reality technology for anatomy instruction, surgical teaching, and simulation training are extensive.

Improving Education About Breast Cancer for Medical Students in China

Abstract:In traditional medical school curriculum of cancer education in China, there is a very limited amount of teaching about breast cancer. The current situation may result in indifference to breast cancer education among medical students. Case-based learning (CBL) is a popular teaching method based on clinical cases. To date, there are few research reports about the application and research of CBL in breast cancer education. The aim of this study is to explore the teaching effect about CBL combined with lecture-based learning (LBL) in breast cancer education. Questions of breast cancer in National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) from 2011 to 2018 were analyzed. The questions about breast cancer were used as the evaluation criteria for this study. In this pilot study, a total of 140 students were randomly divided into a lecture only group (control group) and a lecture plus CBL group (observation group). The students in the observation group had better academic performances and abilities of memory, understanding, and application. They also had higher favorable impressions of the learning experience. In conclusion, more active approaches yield more learning and are viewed more favorably. CBL plus lecture can significantly improve education about breast cancer among medical students, which may be an important message for the evolution of curriculum in Chinese medical schools.

Abstract:ABSTRACT We have tested the in vitro activities of eight fluoroquinolones against 160 Brucella melitensis strains. The most active was sitafloxacin (MIC at which 90% of the isolates are inhibited [MIC90], 0.12 μg/ml). In decreasing order, the activities (MIC90s) of the rest of the tested fluoroquinolones were as follows: levofloxacin, 0.5 μg/ml; ciprofloxacin, trovafloxacin, and moxifloxacin, 1 μg/ml; and ofloxacin, grepafloxacin, and gatifloxacin, 2 μg/ml.

Abstract:Medical students often struggle to appreciate the anatomy of the pterygopalatine fossa. This is due to the difficulty in understanding the spatial orientation through textbook diagrams, as well as its deeper location and smaller size in cadaveric specimens. Research has proven that three-dimensional visualization enhances the spatial understanding of anatomy. However, studies have not compared the effectiveness of two different instructional designs that cater to 3D visualization. We conducted a mixed methodology (quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test control design with additional qualitative components) study to compare the effectiveness of a physical model and a 3D image in small-group teaching. The students were divided into control and intervention groups based on their roll numbers. The control group utilized a series of 3D images delivered through Microsoft PowerPoint software on computers. The students in the intervention group used a physical model made of cardboard, with colored wires representing the neurovascular structures. We used 20 spatial anatomy-based multiple-choice questions (MCQs) to assess knowledge acquisition before and after the small group discussion. Additionally, we utilized a validated 10-item feedback questionnaire to evaluate participants' perception of the teaching sessions. There was no significant difference in the knowledge gain and perception scores between the control and intervention groups. These findings suggest that a well-designed 3D image can provide an equivalent learning outcome and level of satisfaction compared to a physical model. Abstract:Objective The integration of curriculum is an important approach for enhancing medical education and facilitating interdisciplinary connections among students. This study aimed to develop a new morphological integrated teaching mode for undergraduate stomatology education by combining stomatological pathology and radiology courses with instructional media. Methods In total, 63 undergraduates were included in this study and divided into three groups: traditional (Group T; the control group) and two experimental groups: KoPa WiFi EDU (Group K), and KoPa WiFi EDU‐cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) (Group K‐C). All participants attended a 2‐h lecture on periapical cysts and completed the first theoretical test. Subsequently, they underwent a 4‐h experimental training session on the pathology and radiology of periapical cysts using different teaching methods. Following the training, participants completed the second theoretical test and underwent the first image‐reading skill evaluation. After a 3‐month period, participants completed the third theoretical test and underwent the second image‐reading skill evaluation. The effectiveness of the teaching methods was assessed by analyzing the differences in theoretical test and experimental skill evaluation scores. Results There were no significant differences in the first theoretical outcomes among three groups (p > 0.05). However, the second theoretical scores, the first objective evaluation scores, and the first subjective evaluation scores were significantly higher in the integrated teaching mode (3D teaching mode with the KoPa WiFi EDU and CBCT: 89.29 ± 4.55, 81.00 ± 8.15, and 61.57 ± 5.52, respectively; 2D teaching mode with the KoPa WiFi EDU system: 80.43 ± 3.41, 73.00 ± 8.01, and 55.67 ± 5.66, respectively) than in the traditional teaching mode (72.57 ± 3.84, 69.38 ± 4.91, and 48.67 ± 5.54, respectively) (p

Abstract:This paper analyses the use of multimedia technology in training orthopaedic residents and assesses how such aids can improve residents’ ability to master treatments in orthopaedic surgery. To this end, a total of 120 resident trainees who had recently graduated from clinical medicine were recruited for this study, and were classified into two groups. Based on which, the new teaching model using multimedia aids was studied and compared with traditional teaching model (mainly with oral presentation). . The results show that resident trainees with the new teaching model could be more active in thinking ability and interest, and have improved learning outcomes, compared with those with traditional teaching models. Meanwhile, the former trainees showed reduced passive, thereby their understating of key points was strengthened. Overall, the use of multimedia images improved the quality of teaching, transformed the teacher-centred clinical teaching model, and increased trainees’ level of satisfaction with the teaching methods. Therefore, this paper concludes that the use of multimedia images can significantly improve the quality of clinical teaching for resident trainees and should be widely promoted.

Abstract:Objective To explore the application value of multi-disciplinary team（MDT） combined problem-based learning（PBL） + case-based learning（CBL） model in the clinical teaching of pituitary adenomas.Methods A total of 64 resident trainees were enrolled in the standardized training for resident physicians who were rotating in the department of neurosurgery of Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital,the Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School from September 2020 to January 2022.In order to deeply analyze the application effect of MDT combined with PBL+CBL model,the trainees were randomly divided into a control group and a observation group,32 trainees in each group.MDT combined PBL+CBL model was used in the observation group and lecture-based learning model in control group.After completing all the teaching courses,the two groups were tested by examination or questionnaire survey to evaluate the clinical competences（including basic theoretical knowledge,clinical practice and comprehensive capability） and teaching satisfaction,the scores of the two groups were compared.Results The test results showed that the scores of clinical competences and teaching satisfaction in the observation group were markedly higher than that in control group,and the differences were statistically significant（P＜0.01）.Conclusion For the clinical teaching of surgical treatment of pituitary adenomas,the MDT combined PBL+CBL model is more conducive to improving the clinical ability of standardized training students.

Abstract:Background The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant effects on anatomy education. During the pandemic, students have had no access to cadavers, which has been the principal method of learning anatomy. We created and tested a customized congenital heart disease e-learning course for medical students that contained interactive 3D models of anonymized pediatric congenital heart defects. Objective The aim of this study is to assess whether a multimodal e-learning course contributed to learning outcomes in a cohort of first-year undergraduate medical students studying congenital heart diseases. The secondary aim is to assess student attitudes and experiences associated with multimodal e-learning. Methods The pre-post study design involved 290 first-year undergraduate medical students. Recruitment was conducted by course instructors. Data were collected before and after using the course. The primary outcome was knowledge acquisition (test scores). The secondary outcomes included attitudes and experiences, time to complete the modules, and browser metadata. Results A total of 141 students were included in the final analysis. Students’ knowledge significantly improved by an average of 44.6% (63/141) when using the course (SD 1.7%; Z=−10.287; P<.001). Most students (108/122, 88.3%) were highly motivated to learn with the course, and most (114/122, 93.5%) reported positive experiences with the course. There was a strong correlation between attitudes and experiences, which was statistically significant (rs=0.687; P<.001; n=122). No relationships were found between the change in test scores and attitudes (P=.70) or experiences (P=.47). Students most frequently completed the e-learning course with Chrome (109/141, 77.3%) and on Apple macOS (86/141, 61%) or Windows 10 (52/141, 36.9%). Most students (117/141, 83%) had devices with high-definition screens. Most students (83/141, 58.9%) completed the course in <3 hours. Conclusions Multimodal e-learning could be a viable solution in improving learning outcomes and experiences for undergraduate medical students who do not have access to cadavers. Future research should focus on validating long-term learning outcomes.

Abstract:Objective: To explore the effectiveness of multi-media combined with PBL teaching in breast surgery. Methods: 56 interns who came to our hospital for breast surgery from January 2019 to December 2020 were randomly divided into two groups: traditional teaching control group (n = 28) and multi-media PBL teaching observation group (n = 28). Two groups' theoretical knowledge, skill operation, teaching quality, student's evaluation and satisfaction with the teaching model were compared before ending the internship. Results: The total scores of breast examination, differential diagnosis, imaging reading, diagnosis and treatment scheme and total scores of the students in the observation group were higher than those of the students in the control group, and the total scores of body position, surgical site selection, disinfection and local anesthesia, surgical operation, postoperative treatment and clinical operation skills were also higher than those of the students in the control group (P 0.05). The teaching quality of the students in the observation group was also significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). In addition, the students' satisfaction with the teaching method, the teaching effect and the overall satisfaction in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Multi-media combined with PBL teaching can effectively improve students' professional knowledge theory level, operation skills, enhance students' enthusiasm and initiative, develop good clinical thinking habits, and have high teaching satisfaction. Abstract:OBJECTIVE: This exploratory study examines the function and use of common spaces in assisted living facilities (ALFs) from the residential and workplace perspectives. BACKGROUND: The impact of the physical environment on human activities in healthcare settings has been emphasized in many studies. Few studies, however, have explored the daily use of common spaces and the impact on the usability of ALFs. METHODS: Four explorative methods–observation, group interviews, individual interviews, and questionnaires—were used to investigate 14 ALFs in Sweden. The study involves residents, staff, relatives, architects, and people responsible for planning and construction of eldercare. This research strategy combines quantitative and qualitative methods to enhance the validity of the results. Method triangulation and data triangulation were used and the data were analyzed using Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA). RESULTS: The results show that residents and staff have different objectives for use and these differences affect usability, although explicit conflicts are rare. The residents, staff, and other stakeholders have different views about the demarcation of home and workplace and the role of common spaces as venues for social interaction. CONCLUSIONS: Both the residential and the workplace perspective must be considered when planning assisted living facilities. Otherwise, inherent conflicts between these perspectives will manifest as a result of the physical design. Common spaces have diverse functions that are reflected in their spatial organization. Therefore, ALFs should be designed so the intended function of a specific space is apparent to all users.
Step-by-Step Method Combined with Simulation-Enhanced Learner Outcomes in Minimally Invasive Breast Surgery Education

Abstract:Purpose: Traditional standardized training in ultrasound-guided minimally invasive breast surgery (UMIBS) focused on lecture-based learning (LBL) resulted in students' insufficient analysis, limited spatial visual conversion ability, and poor practical application. This study examined the effects of the step-by-step (SBS) method combined with a simulation model in UMIBS education. Subjects and methods: A total of 84 residents participated in this study. The residents were divided into the SBS group (experience group, n=42) and the LBL group (control group, n=42), and the same teacher taught the two groups to ensure a comparable result. Based on the pork simulation model, two experts evaluated student performance scores, and the total time taken by each student was also counted. The participants were surveyed with 7 questions after the training, and each answer was assigned a score of 1, 2 or 3 to compare the participants' satisfaction. Results: The average value of the surgical skills for SBS group were significantly higher than LBS group, which was 82.8±4.4 and 72.7±4.0 (t=4.27, P<0.001), the time spend of neoplasm localization by the experience group was significantly less than the control group, which was 17.9±1.6 and 20.9±1.2 secs, (t=1.58, P<0.001), and there were significant differences in puncture accuracy and excision integrity between the two groups (P<0.05). In addition, the results of the questionnaire survey showed that learning interest, surgical ability and satisfaction were better in the SBS group than in the LBS group (P<0.05), and there were no significant differences in clinical thinking and learning pressure between the two groups. Conclusion: The SBS teaching method may help to improve the surgical skills and learning interest, as well as reduce adverse reactions and cultivate clinical thinking of the students in UMIBS training. Future studies could consider multicenter clinical research to further confirm the practicality of this teaching method and reduce the risk of deviation.
