Abstract:Obtaining an accurate mathematical model is an important subject to design an overhead crane control system. However, there are some deviations between an existing model and a physical system due to its nonlinearity and complexity characteristics. Motivated by this fact, an adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) modeling method is proposed for obtaining high precision models. One of the challenges in ANFIS modeling is how to effectively optimize the premise and consequent parameters. To solve this problem, we propose the RNA genetic algorithm with hairpin genetic operators (hRNA-GA). In hRNA-GA, inspired by the hairpin structure in RNA molecules, we design the hairpin crossover operator and the hairpin mutation operator to maintain the population diversity and avoid the premature convergence. Numerical experiments have been conducted on some benchmark functions. The results indicate that hRNA-GA has better search ability with respect to quality and stability of solutions. Finally, hRNA-GA is applied to find the optimal parameters of ANFISs for modeling an actual overhead crane system and the satisfactory results are reached.

Abstract:Developing a precise dynamic model is a critical step in the design and analysis of the overhead crane system. To achieve this objective, we present a novel radial basis function neural network (RBF-NN) modeling method. One challenge for the RBF-NN modeling method is how to determine the RBF-NN parameters reasonably. Although gradient method is widely used to optimize the parameters, it may converge slowly and may not achieve the optimal purpose. Therefore, we propose the cuckoo search algorithm with membrane communication mechanism (mCS) to optimize RBF-NN parameters. In mCS, the membrane communication mechanism is employed to maintain the population diversity and a chaotic local search strategy is adopted to improve the search accuracy. The performance of mCS is confirmed with some benchmark functions. And the analyses on the effect of the communication set size are carried out. Then the mCS is applied to optimize the RBF-NN models for modeling the overhead crane system. The experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of mCS through comparing with that of the standard cuckoo search algorithm (CS) and the gradient method. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:In this study, the design of a computational heuristic based on the nonlinear Liénard model is presented using the efficiency of artificial neural networks (ANNs) along with the hybridization procedures of global and local search approaches. The global search genetic algorithm (GA) and local search sequential quadratic programming scheme (SQPS) are implemented to solve the nonlinear Liénard model. An objective function using the differential model and boundary conditions is designed and optimized by the hybrid computing strength of the GA-SQPS. The motivation of the ANN procedures along with GA-SQPS comes to present reliable, feasible and precise frameworks to tackle stiff and highly nonlinear differential models. The designed procedures of ANNs along with GA-SQPS are applied for three highly nonlinear differential models. The achieved numerical outcomes on multiple trials using the designed procedures are compared to authenticate the correctness, viability and efficacy. Moreover, statistical performances based on different measures are also provided to check the reliability of the ANN along with GA-SQPS.

Abstract:Minimax problem is a significant topic in signal process (e.g. filter design) and process control (e.g. controller design), which is relevant to robustness, parameters uncertainty, and signal noise etc. However, efficient algorithms are scarce, especially those for general minimax problem with equality and inequality nonlinear constraints. In this paper a novel neural network for general minimax problem has been constructed based on a penalty function approach. The unique request on objective function and constraint functions is that they are first-order differentiable. A Lyapunov function is established for the global stability analysis. The network is simulated and its validity is illustrated by numerical examples. Simulation results show that minimax neural network, which computes in seconds, is more efficient than the previous GA/SGA algorithms, which computes in minutes.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel approach for the training of RBF neural networks. It combines the genetic algorithm (GA) and orthogonal optimum seeking method, taking advantage of both the GA's global optimization ability and the orthogonal optimum seeking method that can quickly determine the numbers of the hidden nodes, to correctly determine the centers of the RBF network. Simulation results show that it is a simple method, and is more reliable and efficient than orthogonal optimum seeking method in training the RBF neural network for dynamic modeling

Abstract:Based on the operators of DNA computing, a multi-objective non-dominated sorted genetic algorithm(DNA-NSGA-Ⅱ)was proposed to optimize the radial basis function (RBF) network.Both the structure complexity and the approximation performance were optimized.Once a group of Pareto optimal solutions were derived, the appropriate RBF network could be chosen in terms of the sum of absolute values of the testing errors.Simulation results of a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) and pH neutralization process showed that the proposed method is an efficient black box dynamic modeling approach.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel application of biologically inspired computing paradigm is presented for solving initial value problem (IVP) of electric circuits based on nonlinear RL model by exploiting the competency of accurate modeling with feed forward artificial neural network (FF-ANN), global search efficacy of genetic algorithms (GA) and rapid local search with sequential quadratic programming (SQP). The fitness function for IVP of associated nonlinear RL circuit is developed by exploiting the approximation theory in mean squared error sense using an approximate FF-ANN model. Training of the networks is conducted by integrated computational heuristic based on GA-aided with SQP, i.e., GA-SQP. The designed methodology is evaluated to variants of nonlinear RL systems based on both AC and DC excitations for number of scenarios with different voltages, resistances and inductance parameters. The comparative studies of the proposed results with Adam’s numerical solutions in terms of various performance measures verify the accuracy of the scheme. Results of statistics based on Monte-Carlo simulations validate the accuracy, convergence, stability and robustness of the designed scheme for solving problem in nonlinear circuit theory.

Abstract:This paper presents an approach to model the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the Automatic Depth Control Electrohydraulic System (ADCES) of a certain mine-sweeping weapon using Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural networks. In order to obtain accurate RBF neural networks efficiently, a hybrid learning algorithm is proposed to train the neural networks, in which centers of neural networks are optimized by genetic algorithm, and widths and centers of neural networks are calculated by linear algebra methods. The proposed algorithm is applied to the modelling of the ADCES, and the results clearly indicate that the obtained RBF neural network can emulate the complex dynamic characteristics of the ADCES satisfactorily. The comparison results also show that the proposed algorithm performs better than the traditional clustering-based method.

Abstract:Background: In this study, bio-inspired computing is exploited for solving system of nonlinear equations using variants of genetic algorithms (GAs) as a tool for global search method hybrid with sequential quadratic programming (SQP) for efficient local search. The fitness function is constructed by defining the error function for systems of nonlinear equations in mean square sense. The design parameters of mathematical models are trained by exploiting the competency of GAs and refinement are carried out by viable SQP algorithm. Results: Twelve versions of the memetic approach GA-SQP are designed by taking a different set of reproduction routines in the optimization process. Performance of proposed variants is evaluated on six numerical problems comprising of system of nonlinear equations arising in the interval arithmetic benchmark model, kinematics, neurophysiology, combustion and chemical equilibrium. Comparative studies of the proposed results in terms of accuracy, convergence and complexity are performed with the help of statistical performance indices to establish the worth of the schemes. Conclusions: Accuracy and convergence of the memetic computing GA-SQP is found better in each case of the simulation study and effectiveness of the scheme is further established through results of statistics based on different performance indices for accuracy and complexity.

Abstract:In this work, an intelligent computing algorithm is developed for finding the approximate solution of heart model based on nonlinear Van der Pol (VdP)-type second-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using feed-forward artificial neural networks (FF-ANNs) optimized with genetic algorithms (GAs) hybrid through interior-point algorithm (IPA). The mathematical modeling of the system is constructed using FF-ANN models by defining an unsupervised error and unknown weights; the networks are tuned globally with GAs, and local refinement of the results is made with IPA. Design scheme is applied to study the VdP heart dynamics model by varying the pulse shape modification factor, damping coefficients and external forcing factor while keeping the fixed value of the ventricular contraction period. The results of the proposed algorithm are compared with reference numerical solutions of Adams method to establish its correctness. Multiple independent runs are performed for the scheme, and results of statistical analyses in terms of mean absolute deviation, root-mean-square error and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency illustrate its applicability, effectiveness and reliability.

Abstract:Problem solving and modelling in traditional substitution methods at large scale for systems using sets of simultaneous equations is time consuming. For such large scale global-optimization problem, Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm and Genetic Algorithm (GA) as meta-heuristics for random search technique perform faster. Therefore, this study applies the SA to solve the problem of linear equations and evaluates its performances against Genetic Algorithms (GAs), a population-based search meta-heuristic, which are widely used in Travelling Salesman problems (TSP), Noise reduction and many more. This paper presents comparison between performances of the SA and GA for solving real time scientific problems. The significance of this paper is to solve the certain real time systems with a set of simultaneous linear equations containing different unknown variable samples those were simulated in Matlab using two algorithms-SA and GA. In all of the experiments, the generated random initial solution sets and the random population of solution sets were used in the SA and GA respectively. The comparison and performances of the SA and GA were evaluated for the optimization to take place for providing sets of solutions on certain systems. The SA algorithm is superior to GA on the basis of experimentation done on the sets of simultaneous equations, with a lower fitness function evaluation count in MATLAB simulation. Since, complex non-linear systems of equations have not been the primary focus of this research, in future, performances of SA and GA using such equations will be addressed. Even though GA maintained a relatively lower number of average generations than SA, SA still managed to outperform GA with a reasonably lower fitness function evaluation count. Although SA sometimes converges slowly, still it is efficient for solving problems of simultaneous equations in this case. In terms of computational complexity, SA was far more superior to GAs.

Abstract:Abstract In order to solve the system of compatible nonlinear equations, the author proposes a hybrid computational intelligence method of Newton's method and genetic algorithm. First, the Quasi-Newton Methods (QN) method is given. Aiming at the local convergence of the algorithm, it is easy to cause the solution to fail. By embedding the QN operator in the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and defining the appropriate fitness, thus, a hybrid computational intelligence algorithm of CNLE is obtained that combines the advantages of GA and QN method, which has both faster convergence and higher probability of solving. Experimental results show that: The value of the selection probability p n of the QN operator also directly affects the solution efficiency. Generally speaking, for strong nonlinear CNLE composed of multimodal functions, p n can be larger; For weakly nonlinear CNLE composed of functions with fewer extreme points and stronger monotonicity, p n can be smaller. It is demonstrated that the computational results show that this method significantly outperforms the GA and QN methods.

Abstract:In this work, a class of singular periodic nonlinear differential systems (SP-NDS) in nuclear physics is numerically treated by using a novel computing approach based on the Gudermannian neural networks (GNNs) optimized by the mutual strength of global and local search abilities of genetic algorithms (GA) and sequential quadratic programming (SQP), i.e. GNNs-GA-SQP. The stimulation of offering this numerical computing work comes from the aim of introducing a consistent framework that has an effective structure of GNNs optimized with the backgrounds of soft computing to tackle such thought-provoking systems. Two different problems based on the SPNDS in nuclear physics will be examined to check the proficiency, robustness and constancy of the GNNs-GA-SQP. The outcomes obtained through GNNs-GA-SQP are compared with the true results to find the worth of designed procedures based on the multiple trials.

Abstract:In the present work, a novel neuro-swarming based heuristic solver is established for the numerical solutions of fourth-order multi-singular nonlinear Emden–Fowler (FO-MS-NEF) model using the function estimate capability of artificial neural networks (ANNs) modelling together with the global application of particle swarm optimization (PSO) enhanced by local search active set (AS) approach, i.e., ANN-PSO-AS solver. The design stimulation for the ANN-PSO-AS scheme for a numerical solver originates with an intention to present a viable, consistent and precise configuration that associates the ANNs strength under the optimization of unified soft computing backgrounds to tackle with such stimulating models for the FO-MS-NEF equation. The proposed ANN-PSO-AS solver is applied for three different variants of FO-MS-NEF equations. The comparison of the obtained results with the true solutions calmed its correctness, effectiveness, and robustness that is further validated with in-depth statistical investigations.

Abstract:The present work is to solve the nonlinear singular models using the framework of the stochastic computing approaches. The purpose of these investigations is not only focused to solve the singular models, but the solution of these models will be presented to the extended form of the delayed, prediction and pantograph differential models. The Gudermannian function is designed using the neural networks optimized through the global scheme "genetic algorithms (GA)", local method "sequential quadratic programming (SQP)" and the hybridization of GA-SQP. The comparison of the singular equations will be presented with the exact solutions along with the extended form of delayed, prediction and pantograph based on these singular models. Moreover, the neuron analysis will be provided to authenticate the efficiency and complexity of the designed approach. For the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed approach, the plots of absolute error will be drawn for the singular delayed, prediction and pantograph differential models. For the reliability and stability of the proposed method, the statistical performances "Theil inequality coefficient", "variance account for" and "mean absolute deviation'' are observed for multiple executions to solve singular delayed, prediction and pantograph differential models.

Abstract:This paper proposes a data-driven approach, by means of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN), to value financial options and to calculate implied volatilities with the aim of accelerating the corresponding numerical methods. With ANNs being universal function approximators, this method trains an optimized ANN on a data set generated by a sophisticated financial model, and runs the trained ANN as an agent of the original solver in a fast and efficient way. We test this approach on three different types of solvers, including the analytic solution for the Black-Scholes equation, the COS method for the Heston stochastic volatility model and Brent’s iterative root-finding method for the calculation of implied volatilities. The numerical results show that the ANN solver can reduce the computing time significantly.

Abstract:Combining cyclophosphamide (Cy) and corticosteroids has dramatically improved the prognosis of Wegener's granulomatosis (WG). But this treatment carries the risks of severe infectious complications and drug toxicity. During a 10-month period, we observed 6 cases of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in 23 patients with biopsy-proven WG and renal involvement. These 23 patients were enrolled in a multicenter controlled clinical trial designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of either intermittent high-dose pulse Cy or daily oral low-dose Cy in combination with oral prednisone. Mean delay of onset of PCP was 2.5 months after the beginning of the immunosuppressive therapy. In all cases, the diagnosis of PCP was established by cytological examination of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. None of the patients experienced severe leukopenia at the time of diagnosis, but the mean lymphocyte count decreased to 495/mm3 (range 100 to 830/mm3) and 2 patients had inverted CD4/CD8 T-cell ratios. Renal function was significantly impaired (creatininemia = 493.5 vs 195.4 micromol/l; p = 0.03) in the 6 patients presenting PCP vs those without. High-dose co-trimoxazole therapy was successful in 3 patients, but 3 others who required mechanical ventilation died. Treatment of WG with daily prednisone and either pulse or oral Cy may have contributed to higher rates of PCP in the past than previously thought and, therefore, patients currently receiving such a regimen may be at greater risk for PCP. For these patients, this opportunistic infection must remain highly suspect in order to reach a diagnosis earlier and rapidly initiate treatment. In addition, recommendations for prophylactic therapy are needed.
