Abstract:A convenient, two-step synthesis of the 5,8-dimethyl-dibenzo[b,j][1,10]phenanthrolines is presented. The first step is a Buchwald-Hartwig amination of 1,2-dibromobenzene and 2’-Aminoacetophenone to produce 1,1’-((1,2-phenylenebis(azanediyl))bis(2,1-phenylene))bis(ethan-1- one), which is converted to the final product via a ring-closing reaction. The overall reaction yield is 63%. The complexation of 5,8-dimethyldibenzo[b,j][1,10]phenanthrolines with 2,2’-bipyridine-4,4’-dicarboxylic acid (dcbpy) and Ru Ru(DMSO)4Cl2 is also reported and the Ru complex might be used to prepare a nanoscale thin film for dye-sensitives solar cell and other optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:The reactive ligand 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-epoxide is a versatile starting material for the preparation of a variety of 5-substituted-1, 10-phenanthroline ligands by reaction with oxygen-, carbon-, or nitrogen-based nucleophiles. All of the new ligands readily form complexes with the fac-Re-1(CO)(3)Cl fragment. Of particular interest are the syntheses of the amino and aminocrown derivatives of Re-1 which can function as cation sensors by perturbation of molecular luminescence. An interesting example involving Pb2+ is presented.

Abstract:Dioxaphosphabicyclo[2.2.2]octanes ( L1 – L4 ) have been prepared in a one-pot reaction from tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine and various α,β-unsaturated ketones. The non-volatile phosphines oxidise very slowly in air. They possess highly upfield 31 P chemical shifts (−59 to −70 ppm), small cone angles (123°) and a similar electronic parameter to PPh 3 . Reaction of L1 with [Rh(acac)(CO) 2 ] gave the complex [Rh(acac)(CO)( L1 )] with a ν (C≡O) of 1981.5 cm −1 , whereas reaction L1 with [Rh(CO) 2 Cl] 2 gave [Rh(CO)( L1 ) 2 Cl] with a ν (C≡O) of 1979.9 cm −1 , remarkably similar to the CO stretching frequencies reported for analogous PPh 3 complexes. The cage phosphines were explored as ligands in rhodium catalysed hydroformylation of 1-octene. All of the ligands gave a linear selectivity to n -nonanal of 68%, regardless of the substituents. However the ligand substituents had a significant effect on the catalyst activity, with increased steric bulk around the co-ordination environment giving a three-fold increase in aldehyde yield. The phosphines undergo ligand subsitution with [Pd(MeCN) 2 Cl 2 ] forming square planar trans -[Pd(L) 2 Cl 2 ] complexes. Subsequent reduction with hydrazine furnishes homoleptic tetravalent [Pd( L1 ) 4 ] which was applied as a catalyst in Suzuki–Miyaura couplings, furnishing the C–C coupled products in moderate yields.

Abstract:The sequence of reactions of the phosphorus-containing aryllithium compound 5-t-Bu-1,3-[(P(O)(O-i-Pr)2 ]2 C6 H2 Li (ArLi) with Ph2 PCl, KMnO4 , elemental sulfur and elemental selenium, respectively, gave the aryldiphenylphosphane chalcogenides 5-t-Bu-1,3-[(P(O)(O-i-Pr)2 ]2 C6 H2 P(E)Ph2 (1, E=O; 2, E=S; 3, E=Se). Compound 1 partially hydrolysed giving [5-t-Bu-1-{(P(O)(O-i-Pr)2 }-3-{(P(O)(OH)2 }C6 H2 ]P(O)Ph2 (4). The reaction of ArLi with PhPCl2 provided the benzoxaphosphaphosphole [1(P), 3(P)-P(O)(O-i-Pr)OPPh-6-t-Bu-4-P(O)(O-i-Pr)2 ]C6 H2 P (5i) as a mixture of the two diastereomers. The oxidation of 5i with elemental sulfur gave the benzoxaphosphaphosphole sulfide [1(P), 3(P)-P(O)(O-i-Pr)OP(S)Ph-6-t-Bu-4-P(O)(O-i-Pr)2 ]C6 H2 (5) as pair of enantiomers P1(R), P3(S)/P1(S), P3(R) of the diastereomer (RS/SR)-5 (5b). The aryldiphenylphosphane 5-t-Bu-1,3-[(P(O)(O-i-Pr)2 ]2 C6 H2 PPh2 (6) was obtained from the reaction of the corresponding aryldiphenylphosphane sulfide 2 with either sodium hydride, NaH, or disodium iron tetracarbonyl, Na2 Fe(CO)4 . The oxidation of the aryldiphenylphosphane 6 with elemental iodine and subsequent hydrolysis yielded the aryldiphenyldioxaphosphorane 9-t-Bu-2,6-(OH)-4,4-Ph2 -3,5-O2 -2,6-P2 -4λ5 -P-[5.3.1.0]-undeca-1(10),7(11),8-triene (7). Both of its diastereomers, (RR/SS)-7 (7a) and (RS/SR)-7 (7b), were separated as their chloroform and i-propanol solvates, 7a⋅2CHCl3 and 7b⋅i-PrOH, respectively. DFT calculations accompanied the experimental work.

Abstract:The ylides (CH 3 ) 2 C 6 H 5 P = CH 2 and CH 3 (C 6 H 5 ),P=CH, have been prepared via their trimethylsilyl derivatives in a pure and salt-free state. Their properties and some spectroscopic data are reported. The thermal decomposition leads to the corresponding methylphenylphosphines, the addition of methanol yields a phosphine oxide and alkane or a phosphine an anisol, depending on the number of aryl groups at phosphorus. There is evidence for a pentacoordinate tetraorgano-alkoxyphosphorane as an intermediate. Protic catalysts are found to cause rapid α-proton exchange in the ylides.
Direct Phosphonylation of N-Phenyltetrahydroisoquinolines in Microdroplets.

Abstract:Because of their unique properties and high biological activities, organophosphorus compounds have been used worldwide in agricultural, industrial, medicinal, and veterinary applications. Conventional strategies for direct phosphonylation suffer from the usage of stoichiometric or excessive metallic or nonmetallic catalysts and long reaction times under harsh conditions, leading to a strong desire for environment-friendly protocols for phosphonylation. A protocol for the accelerated phosphonylation of N-phenyltetrahydroisoquinolines in minutes was developed without the use of any catalyst in microdroplets. The phosphonylation process was completed (>85% yields) in 10 min at 40 °C using 0.8 equiv 2,3-dicyano-5,6-dichlorobenzoquinone as the oxidant and acetonitrile as the solvent. The microdroplet phosphonylation strategy showed good suitability to alkyl phosphites and N-phenyltetrahydroisoquinolines bearing electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substitutes, and the yields of the microdroplet reaction were much greater than those of the bulk (accelerated by two orders of magnitude from the ratio of the rate constants using the microdroplet and the bulk method). Furthermore, microdroplet phosphonylation can be scaled up to a 1-phenyl-2-dimethylphosphonite-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline amount of 510 mg h-1 by spraying 0.1 mol L-1 N-phenyltetrahydroisoquinoline at 300 μL min-1. These figures of merit make it a promising alternative to classic organic methodologies for the synthesis of organophosphorus compounds.

Abstract:Industrially important triaryl phosphites, traditionally prepared from PCl3, have been synthesized by a diphenyl diselenide-catalyzed one-step procedure involving white phosphorus and phenols, which provides a halogen- and transition metal-free way to these compounds. Subsequent oxidation of triaryl phosphites produces triaryl phosphates and triaryl thiophosphates. Abstract:Phosphorus(V) chloride was sequentially displaced by catechol N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)amino acids and phenol (Method A) or catechol, phenol and N,O-bis(trimethylsilyl)amino acids (Method B) leading to a high yield synthesis of 2-phenoxy-2,7(5)-spiro[1,3,2-benzodioxaphosphole-2,2'-1,3,2-oxazophospholan]-5'-ones under mild conditions. The products were characterized by H-1, C-13, H-1-H-1 COSY, H-1-C-13 COSY and held desorption mass spectrometry.

Abstract:A simple method for design of some novel 1,2-benzoxaphosphinines 2 – 9 , was achieved. The methodology depended on cyclization of 1-(2-hydroxy-phenyl)-3-phenylpropane-1,3-dione ( 1 ) as starting material with some phosphorus halides in dry solvent in the presence of a base. Reaction of the substrate 1 with some phosphorus halides, such as P,P-dichlorophenylphosphine, phenyl phosphonic dichloride, phenyl phosphorodichloridate, and phosphorus oxychloride in dry toluene containing triethylamine led to a predominant formation of 3-benzoyl-4-hydroxy-2 H -1,2-benzoxaphosphinines 2 – 5 , respectively. Under the same reaction conditions, the molecular structures of type 3-benzoyl-4 H -1,2-benzoxaphosphinin-4-ones 6 and 7 were isolated by treatment of the substrate 1 with phosphorus pentachloride and phosphorus tribromide, respectively. In addition, the interesting 4-(1-phenyl-ethanoyl)-1,2,λ 5 -benzoxaphosphinines 8 and 9 were obtained by treatment of compound 1 with acetonyl and benzyl triphenylphosphonium chlorides, respectively, in dry dioxane and sodium hydride. Abstract:Dialkyl phosphites (DAPIs), traditionally prepared from hazardous and corrosive PCl3, are the fundamental reactive starting materials used in organophosphorus chemistry. Here, a KBr‐mediated synthesis of DAPIs involving P4, alcohols and water is presented. With the use of silica gel as the catalyst, oxone as the safe oxidant, industrially important (EtO)2P(O)H, (i‐PrO)2P(O)H and (MeO)2P(O)H are prepared in 70–90% yields. Furthermore, rare metal extractant bis(2‐ethylhexyl) phosphate (D2EHPA) is obtained in 73% yield. The reaction is characterized by a complete conversion of white phosphorus. Moreover, this method can be easily adapted to large‐scale preparation.

Abstract:Hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene was prepared by reacting ammonium chloride and phosphorus pentachloride in an inert organic solvent at the presence of different metal compounds and pyridine. The conbination of MgCl_2·6H_2O with pyridine showed an ideal catalytic activity to give hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene in yield of 87% under the suitable conditions. The method is time saving.

Abstract:The chemical reactivity of 3-(dimethylamino)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one (1) towards some phosphorus reagents was studied. The enaminone 1 was cyclized into diethyl 2-phosphonochromone 2 via its treatment with diethyl phosphite in basic medium. However, its reaction with triethoxy phosphonoacetate gave the substituted pyrone phosphonate 3. In addition, two novel examples of 4-(dimethylamino)-6-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2-sulfido-4H-1,3,2-oxathia-phosphinines 6 and 7 were obtained from treatment of enaminone 1 with O,O-diethyl dithiophosphoric acid and Lawesson’s reagent. When enaminone 1 was also treated with phosphorus decasulfide, it was turned into 4H-thiochromene-4-thione while its treatment with phosphorus tribromide, phosphorus oxychloride, or phenylphosphonic dichloride, 4H-4-oxo-chromene was isolated in all cases. The possible reaction mechanisms of the formation of these products were discussed. The structures of newly isolated products were established by elemental analysis and spectral tools.

Abstract:A convenient, efficient and practical approach for the synthesis of S-quinolyl phosphorothioates via a cheap TsCl promoted deoxygenative C2-H phosphorothiolation of quinoline N-oxides with readily available triethylammonium O,O-dialkylphosphorothioates was developed. The reaction was performed quite well under transition-metal-free conditions at room temperature with very short reaction time (10-20 min). The preliminary study showed that the current transformation underwent a nucleophilic substitution process.

Abstract:Reactions of trinuclear rare-earth metal complexes bearing functionalized phosphinidene ligand [L(3)Ln(3)(mu(2)-Me)(2)(mu(3)-Me) (mu(3)-eta(1): eta(2):eta(2)-PC6H4-o) (L = [PhC((NC6H4Pr2)-Pr-i-2,6)(2)](-), Ln = Y (la), Lu (lb)) with phenylacetylene, CO2, diisopropyl carbodiimide, isocya-nide, or PhSSPh lead to the formation of a series of phosphorus-containing products. The reaction of 1 with CS2 yields two novel P-methyl-phosphindole-2,3-dithio-late dianion complexes, revealing an unusual tandem desulfurization/coupling/cyclization reaction mode of CS2. A possible reaction pathway was determined by density functional theory calculations. This emphasizes the key role of the reduction power of the formal P2- part of the phosphinidene in the C-S bond cleavage.

Abstract:Deoxygenation of phosphine oxides is of great significance to synthesis of phosphorus ligands and relevant catalysts, as well as to the sustainability of phosphorus chemistry. However, the thermodynamic inertness of P═O bonds poses a severe challenge to their reduction. Previous approaches in this regard rely primarily on a type of P═O bond activation with either Lewis/Brønsted acids or stoichiometric halogenating reagents under harsh conditions. Here, we wish to report a novel catalytic strategy for facile and efficient deoxygenation of phosphine oxides via successive isodesmic reactions, whose thermodynamic driving force for breaking the strong P═O bond was compensated by a synchronous formation of another P═O bond. The reaction was enabled by P/P═O redox sequences with the cyclic organophosphorus catalyst and terminal reductant PhSiH. This catalytic reaction avoids the use of the stoichiometric activator as in other cases and features a broad substrate scope, excellent reactivities, and mild reaction conditions. Preliminary thermodynamic and mechanistic investigations disclosed a dual synergistic role of the catalyst.
