Abstract:Abstract Background Breastfeeding is one of the most important interfering factors in infants’ health. Monitoring mothers’ performance and providing them with the feedback helps to increase their self-efficacy, interest in learning, and level of performance. The present research evaluates the effect of prenatal counseling on the breastfeeding self-efficacy and frequency of breastfeeding problems in mothers with previous unsuccessful breastfeeding. Methods This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 108 pregnant women with unsuccessful breastfeeding in Tabriz health centers during 2017–2018. The participants were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. The intervention group had four prenatal counseling sessions and the controls only received routine care. Then, the mothers who gave birth to their children received a counseling session up to 4 months after the delivery. The Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy (BSES) questionnaire and the frequency of breast feeding problems checklist on the 15th day, and 2nd and 4th month were completed both by the intervention and control groups. Results The mean (SD) of breastfeeding self-efficacy was 119.3 (10.5), 128.3 (8.3) and 133.8 (10.3) in the intervention group and 105.3 (16.1), 105.7 (19.7) and 109.4 (24.7) in the control group on the 15th day, 2nd and 4th month after the delivery, respectively. There was a significant difference in terms of breastfeeding self-efficacy between intervention and control group on the 15th day ( p < 0.001), and 2nd ( p < 0.001) and 4th ( p < 0.001) month after the delivery. The frequency of breastfeeding problems on the 15th ( p = 0.008), 2nd ( p < 0.001) and 4th ( p < 0.001) after the delivery was significantly different in most cases of the intervention group when compared to the controls. Conclusion The results indicated that prenatal counseling can increase mothers’ breastfeeding self-efficacy and solves most breastfeeding problems during postpartum period. Abstract:Prolactin is secreted from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland in response both to suckling and to stress. We recently observed that 1‐methyl‐6,7‐dihydroxy‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroisoquinoline (salsolinol), produced in the neurointermediate lobe of the pituitary gland, as well as in the medial basal hypothalamus, can selectively release prolactin from the anterior pituitary. Therefore, it has been proposed that salsolinol is a putative endogenous prolactin‐releasing factor (PRF). Here, we report that one structural analogue of salsolinol, 1‐methyl‐3,4‐dihydroisoquinoline (1MeDIQ), can block salsolinol‐induced release of prolactin, but does not affect prolactin release in response to thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), α‐methyl‐p‐tyrosine (αMpT) (an inhibitor of tyrosine hydroxylase), domperidone (a D2 dopamine receptor antagonist), or 5‐hydroxytryptophan (5‐HTP), a precursor of serotonin). 1MeDIQ profoundly inhibited suckling‐, immobilization‐, as well as formalin‐stress induced prolactin release without any influence on corticosterone secretion. The 1MeDIQ‐induced reduction in prolactin response to immobilization stress was dose‐dependent. These results suggest that salsolinol can play a pivotal role in the regulation of prolactin release induced by either physiological (suckling) or environmental (stress) stimuli.

The effect of virtual cognitive-behavioral sexual counseling on sexual function and sexual intimacy in pregnant women: a randomized controlled clinical trial

Abstract:Background & aim: Pregnancy is associated with numerous physical and psychological changes and affects the sexual function of couples. Since the root of many marital problems lies in the quality of the relationship and sexual function, the present study investigates the effect of virtual cognitive-behavioral sexual counseling on pregnant women's sexual function and intimacy. Methods & materials: This study is a randomized clinical trial, and 80 pregnant women aged 18 to 35 years and in 16-24 weeks of pregnancy were assigned to two intervention and control groups based on randomized blocks from June 2021 to July 2021. The control group received routine prenatal care, but the intervention group, in addition to routine prenatal care, underwent virtual counseling with a cognitive-behavioral approach during eight sessions of 90 minutes. Data were collected using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and sexual intimacy questionnaire. SPSS software was used for statistical analysis. Results: The comparison of mean scores of sexual function and intimacy in the two groups before the intervention was not statistically significant with each other. However, after the intervention, the mean scores of sexual function and intimacy in the intervention group were significantly increased compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The effect size of the intervention was 0.52 for sexual function and 0.272 for sexual intimacy. Conclusion: Virtual cognitive-behavioral counseling can be used as an effective treatment to promote sexual function and intimacy of women during pregnancy. Trial registration: IRCT20161230031662N10. Effectiveness of midwife-led brief counseling intervention on post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety symptoms of women experiencing a traumatic childbirth: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Abstract Background This study investigated the effectiveness of brief midwife-led counseling based on Gamble and colleagues’ approach in decreasing post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety symptoms among a group of women who had experienced a traumatic childbirth. Methods From among 270 pregnant women screened to participate in the study, 90 women experienced a traumatic childbirth. They were randomly assigned into two groups: intervention ( n = 45) and control group ( n = 45). We did a face-to-face counseling session within 72 h after giving birth and a telephone counseling session four to 6 weeks after giving birth for the intervention group. The control group only received the postnatal routine care. The outcome measures were post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety symptoms. Results At the three-month follow-up, the intervention group showed significantly higher improvement on post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety symptoms compared to the control group. Conclusions Gamble and colleagues’ midwife-led brief counseling could be an effective approach to reduce psychological distress of women who have experienced a traumatic childbirth. Abstract:Background The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months followed by continued breastfeeding with complementary food up to 2 years of age or beyond. This study aimed to investigate the effect of mobile -based education on the self-efficacy of lactating women in the postpartum period. Methods A quasi-experimental study was carried out in 2018 in Shirvan, Iran among 69 postpartum women. Participants were assigned to intervention ( n = 33) and control ( n = 36) groups on the first day after delivery by random allocation. Intervention group received the mobile-based training for 4 weeks in the form of text messages, photos, video clips, and audio files. The control group received routine hospital care and training. Data were collected on demographic characteristics, delivery information, and the breastfeeding self-efficacy. Self-efficacy was measured in two groups at three time points; the first day after delivery, 4 weeks after delivery and 8 weeks after delivery. Findings The mean and standard deviation of breastfeeding self-efficacy score was higher in the intervention than control group 4 weeks (155.30 ± 10.93 vs 132.52 ± 19.70, P < 0.001) and 8 weeks after delivery (160.18 ± 11.33 vs 132.30 ± 24.09, P < 0.001). Compared to the control group, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the intervention group was significantly higher 4 and 8 weeks after the delivery (P all < 0.05). Discussion The findings from this study showed a substantial increase in breastfeeding self-efficacy and exclusive breastfeeding in the group who received training through mobile-based education compared to the group that received routine care. Application to practice Mobile-based breastfeeding education might be a promising strategy to increase breastfeeding self-efficacy. It is suggested that midwives include the design of mobile-based educational programs as part of their educational strategies and use the advantages of this educational method during pregnancy and after childbirth. Abstract:Background and aims: Transition to motherhood is a stressful and challenging process in the postpartum period, so that mothers not only face with new maternal tasks but also with significant changes in their bodies. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of training packages on maternal self-confidence in the postpartum period. Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 136 primiparous women who were referred to health centers in Tabriz, Iran, for their second postpartum care (10–15 days after delivery). Primiparous women aged 18–35 with singleton pregnancy and term birth (37–42 weeks) were randomly assigned to training (n=68) and control (n=68) groups. The education group was provided with a face to face training session, three phone sessions, and a booklet. The control group received the routine postpartum care in days 1–3, 10–15, and 42–60. Participants completed the Lips maternal self-confidence questionnaire before the intervention and eight weeks postpartum. ANCOVA with adjustments for baseline score was used for analysis. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of socio-demographic characteristics except for infant's gender (p>0.05). At 6 weeks after the intervention and by adjusting for baseline scores, mean scores of maternal self-confidence (Adjusted mean difference: 16.6; CI 95%:13.8 to 19.3, p<0.001) in educational group were significantly higher than the control. Conclusion: Results showed that training women have a positive effect in increasing their self-confidence.

Impact of theory of planned behavior based intervention on breastfeeding patterns of the mothers with preterm infants: a randomized trial

Abstract:Background: The birth of a preterm infant is considered a crisis for the mother and the family. Given the significance of breastfeeding for these high-risk infants, failure to initiate and maintain exclusive breastfeeding in this group of infants is a prevalent and serious problem. The aim of this research was to investigate the impact of Theory of Planned Behavior based intervention on breastfeeding patterns of the mothers with preterm infants: a randomized trial. Materials and methods: This study is a field trial conducted in Isfahan, Iran in 2021-2022. It included 72 mothers of late preterm infants, divided into the intervention (n = 36) and control (n = 36) groups. The intervention group received four training sessions focused on breastfeeding patterns based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. Before, immediately after, and two and four months after the intervention, the constructs of the Theory of Planned Behavior related to breastfeeding patterns were assessed using a researcher-made questionnaire, and the infant's breastfeeding pattern was recorded. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 19, g repeated measures ANCOVA, Bonferroni post hoc test, and chi-square test. Results: The results indicated that immediately after the intervention, as well as two and four months later, the mean scores for attitude (P < 0.001), subjective norms (P < 0.001), perceived behavioral control (P < 0.001), and behavioral intention (P < 0.001) were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group. Additionally, the results showed that, the rate of breastfeeding immediately, two months, and four months after the intervention was significantly higher in the intervention group than before the intervention (P < 0.001). However, in the control group, the rate of breastfeeding immediately, two months, and four months after the intervention was significantly lower than before the intervention (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Interventions based on the Theory of Planned Behavior can improve exclusive breastfeeding in late preterm infants by changing the attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and the behavioral intentions of the mothers of preterm infants. The effect of a self-care program based on the teach back method on the postpartum quality of life

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The postpartum period is a critical stage of life with major changes in the quality of life. Therefore, special consideration is needed to this issue.OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of a self-care program based on the Teach Back method on the postpartum quality of life.METHODS: This experimental study was conducted on eighty postpartum women who had given birth in health centers across Darreh Shahr County, Ilam Province, Iran in 2016. The control group received only routine postpartum care according to the national guidelines. The trial group received the routine care in addition to two sessions of physical and psychological postpartum self-care based on the Teach Back method. The two groups were assessed in terms of their quality of life before and after the intervention using the Postpartum Quality of Life Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 21. Descriptive statistic tests, Chi squared, independent-samples t-test, paired-samples t-test, Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney's test was used.RESULTS: Before the intervention, the postpartum quality of life score was 106.23±11.866 in the trial group and 107.30±13.197 in the control group; after the intervention, the score was 124.73±10.706 and 115.03±12.687 in the two groups respectively, suggesting a significant inter-group difference after the intervention (p<0.001). Significant differences were also observed between the two groups in terms of the mother's feelings toward herself, toward her child and toward her spouse and others, and physical health before and after the intervention (p<0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Using the Teach Back model for a self-care program appears to dramatically improve the postpartum quality of life and is therefore recommended as a useful method for postpartum care.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The trial was registered at the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (http://www.irct.ir) with the Irct ID: IRCT2015012820854N1.FUNDING: The authors received no financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.
Effect of Psychotherapy on Reduction of Fear of Childbirth and Pregnancy Stress: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract:Introduction: The fear of childbirth (FOC) has an adverse effect on the physical and mental health of pregnant women and increases adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. Previous research reported the effect of psychological interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation therapies, and short-term psycho-educational intervention on FOC. We examined whether adding motivational interviewing (MI) psychotherapy to prenatal usual care (PUC) is superior to PUC alone to reduce the scores of FOC, pregnancy stress, and self-efficacy. Materials and methods: An RCT with two-arm parallel groups and 1:1 allocation ratio assigned 70 pregnant women (aged 18-50) attending public health centers in an education hospital in Iran to receive five sessions of group MI psychotherapy plus PUC (N = 35) or to receive PUC alone (N = 35). The primary outcomes were the FOC scores (Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire, W-DEQ), pregnancy-specific stress (Prenatal Distress Questionnaire, NuPDQ), anxiety (Spielberger state anxiety), and Childbirth Self-Efficacy Index (CBSI) at 5 weeks post-randomization. Additional measures included subscales of the W-DEQ and the NuPDQ, patients' compliance, and satisfaction with psychotherapy intervention at 5 weeks post-randomization as secondary outcomes. Main results: The post-trial results indicated that the outcome scores diminished more considerably in psychotherapy than in PUC for total FOC scale with a large effect size (B = -23.54, p = < 0.001, η2η2 = 0.27), for total pregnancy stress with a large effect size (B = -4.51, p = < 0.001, η2 = 19), and for state anxiety with a large effect size (B = -12.42, p = < 0.001, η2 = 0.22). However, the score of self-efficacy and concern about physical symptoms did not differ between the psychotherapy and PUC groups (P < 0.05). Discussion: Adding 5 weeks of group psychotherapy to PUC could be considered as an adjunctive care option for reducing FOC, pregnancy stress, and general anxiety in pregnant women in the third trimester. Future research may focus on sustaining the effects and evaluating the economic impacts of adding psychotherapy to PUC.

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Background</h3><p>Low self-efficacy affects new mothers' ability to sustain breastfeeding. Interventions that increase self-efficacy could improve sustained breastfeeding.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Objectives</h3><p>To develop an integrated breastfeeding education program based on self-efficacy theory, and evaluate the effect of the intervention on first-time mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy and attitudes.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Design</h3><p>A single-blind, randomised controlled trial.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Setting</h3><p>A prenatal clinic of a teaching hospital.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Participants</h3><p>First-time mothers with a singleton pregnancy (12-32 weeks' gestation) and their support partners were selected by convenience sampling (N = 104) and allocated by block-randomization to an intervention or control group.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>A 3-week breastfeeding intervention program was developed based on self-efficacy theory. The intervention group received the breastfeeding program; the control group received standard care. Data between groups were compared for scores on breastfeeding self-efficacy, infant feeding attitude, and breastfeeding practice, which were assessed using the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form, the Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale, and a structured questionnaire, respectively. Repeated data measurements were collected at baseline, 36-weeks' gestation, and postpartum at 1-week, and 1-, 3-, and 6-months.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>Ninety-three mothers completed the study. Data were compared for the self-efficacy intervention group (n = 50) with the control group (n = 43). Baseline measures did not differ between groups. The intervention group had significantly higher breastfeeding self-efficacy at 36 weeks' gestation (mean difference (MD): 7.3, p < .001), and postpartum at 1-week (p < .001), 1-month (p < .001) and 3-months (p < .01) with MD: 6.7, 7.9, and 8.1, respectively; differences in scores from baseline were also significantly greater from 36 weeks' gestation to 3-months (MD from 9.1∼9.9, p < .001) and 6-months postpartum (MD: 7.0, p < .05). Infant feeding attitude scores significantly improved from 36 weeks' gestation to 6-months postpartum for the intervention group (MD from 3.5∼7.4, p < .05). Rates for exclusive and predominant breastfeeding postpartum were significantly higher for the intervention group vs control (p < .02) at 1-week (98% vs. 86%), 1-month (100% vs. 90.7%), and 3-months (94% vs. 76.7%). Odds ratio (OR) postpartum for exclusive and predominant breastfeeding was greater for the intervention group at 3-months (OR = 4.7, 95 % Confidence interval (CI), 1.2 -18.6; p = .05) and for exclusive breastfeeding at 6-months (OR: 2.82, 95% CI 1.0-8.1; p = .05).</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusions</h3><p>The breastfeeding education intervention improved breastfeeding self-efficacy, infant feeding attitudes, and exclusive breastfeeding rates. Abstract:Background: An individualized education using visual aids, allowing the woman to demonstrate what she has learned, and providing the opportunity for the woman to ask questions are important in terms of breastfeeding self-efficacy, breastfeeding success, and the sustainability of the education. This study is original in evaluating the effectiveness and sustainability of breastfeeding education provided through the teach-back method in terms of breastfeeding self-efficacy and success in a short period of time. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the impact of teach-back method on mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy and breastfeeding success. Materials and methods: This is a randomized controlled study. The population of this study consisted of women who gave birth in the obstetrics and gynecology department of a state hospital located in Çorlu, in the northwest region of Turkey, between March 2022 and August 2022. The sample of this study consisted of a total of 100 postpartum women, with 50 participants in the experimental group and 50 participants in the control group, who gave birth in the obstetrics and gynecology department of Çorlu State Hospital. Computer-assisted simple randomization was employed to ensure the homogeneous distribution of the women into the experimental and control groups. The women in the experimental group received education and counseling services using the Teach-Back Method, based on the content of the prepared Breastfeeding Education Guide. The control group mothers, on the other hand, received standard breastfeeding education and counseling services. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews during the first 24 h postpartum and at the 1-month follow-up visits. In the study, the data collection tools used were a Personal Information Form, LATCH Breastfeeding Assessment and Evaluation Scale, Postpartum Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (short form), and the Teach-Back Observation Tool. In the evaluation of the research findings, the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) version 25.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) program was used for statistical analyses. Descriptive, graphical, and statistical methods were employed to examine whether the scores obtained from each continuous variable followed a normal distribution. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to assess the normality of the scores derived from a continuous variable using statistical methods. Results: In the study, no significant difference was found in the distribution of the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants according to the study groups. In the experimental group, which received training with the tell-what-you-learned method, the mothers' average EÖYÖ scores before the training, at the 24th hour after the training and at the 1st month after the training were 46.41 ± 11.26, respectively; It was determined to be 66.23 ± 6.94 and 67.84 ± 6.27. In the measurements made during the follow-up, it was determined that there was a significant difference in the study group's EÖYÖ score averages (p < 0,001). For mothers in the experimental group, the average LATCH score of the mothers before training, 24 h after training and 1 month after training was 7.73 ± 1.81, respectively; It was determined that these values were 8.66 ± 1.61 and 9.95 ± 0.30, and there was a significant difference in the mean LATCH scores of the study group in the measurements made during the follow-up (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Breastfeeding education provided through the teach-back method is more effective in increasing both breastfeeding success and breastfeeding self-efficacy when compared to standard breastfeeding education. Abstract:ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to examine the effect of mobile phone applications (App) based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on postpartum depression.MethodA non-blinded parallel-group randomized controlled trial was conducted. The study population consisted of women attended to three health care centers in Kerman, Iran. Participants were recruited between September and November 2018, and randomized 1:1 to either the intervention group (mobile application access) or control group (no mobile application access). All participants completed the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) at the baseline and 2 months after baseline. Data were analyzed using inferential statistics including chi-square, independent sample t-test, paired t-test and linear regression.ResultsA total of 75 women with an average age of 27 years participated in this study. Before the intervention, there was no statistically significant difference between the EPDS score between the two groups (p > 0.001). However, in the intervention group, the average EPDS score after intervention was 8.18 and in the control group was 15.05, which was statistically significant (p < 0.001).ConclusionThese findings provide proof that providing a CBT program using a mobile application can lead to clinically important improvements in outcomes for mothers who suffer from postpartum depression.

Abstract:Objective: To assess the effects of prenatal counseling about the maternal health benefits of lactation on postpartum knowledge, breastfeeding intentions, and infant feeding behaviors. Materials and Methods: We conducted a randomized trial with 411 nulliparous U.S.-born women carrying a singleton gestation. Participants were recruited online; after completing a baseline survey that assessed breastfeeding knowledge and intentions, participants were randomized to receive a 10-minute virtual counseling session about the benefits of breastfeeding or attention-control counseling about smoke-free homes. We collected data on breastfeeding knowledge, intentions, and infant feeding behaviors through 12 months postpartum and conducted an intention-to-treat analysis. Results: On enrollment, awareness of the maternal health benefits of lactation was similarly low in both study groups. Postpartum, participants who received this prenatal counseling intervention had significantly greater awareness that breastfeeding decreases maternal risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and rheumatoid arthritis ( p < 0.001 for all). On enrollment, intended duration of breastfeeding was similar between groups (10.1 months versus 9.7 months, p = 0.41). At 1-month postpartum, intended duration of breastfeeding had increased from baseline among those who received this counseling (+0.7 months versus −0.7 months among controls, p = 0.004); among intervention participants intended duration of breastfeeding decreased less at 3 (−0.8 versus −1.6, p = 0.18), 6 (−2.0 versus −3.0, p = 0.06), 9 (−2.8 versus −4.2, p = 0.03), and 12 months postpartum (−4.8 versus −6.2, p = 0.09). Rates of exclusive breastfeeding and any breastfeeding were similar between groups. Conclusion: Prenatal counseling on the maternal health benefits of lactation increases awareness of these maternal health benefits and extends intended duration of breastfeeding. A software testing and reliability early warning (strew) metric suite

Abstract:The demand for quality in software applications has grown, and awareness of software testing-related issues plays an important role towards that. Unfortunately in industrial practice, information on software field quality of a product tends to become available too late in the software lifecycle to affordably guide corrective actions. An important step towards remediation of this problem lies in the ability to provide an early estimation of post-release field quality. This dissertation presents a suite of nine in-process metrics, the Software Testing and Reliability Early Warning (STREW) metric suite, that leverages the software testing effort to provide (1) an estimate of post-release field quality early in software development phases, and (2) a color-coded, feedback to the developers on the quality of their testing effort to identify areas that could benefit from more testing. We built and validated our model via a three-phase case study approach which progressively involved 22 small-scale academic projects, 27 medium-sized open source projects, and five large-scale industrial projects. The ability of the STREW metric suite to estimate post-release field quality was evaluated using statistical regression models in the three different environments. The error in estimation and the sensitivity of the predictions indicate the STREW metric suite can effectively be used to predict post-release software field quality. Further, the test quality feedback was found to be statistically significant with the post-release software quality, indicating the ability of the STREW metrics to provide meaningful feedback on the quality of the testing effort.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a training package on functional status and self-confidence of primiparous women in the postpartum period.METHOD: This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted on 136 primiparous women who were referred to health centers in Tabriz, Iran, for their second postpartum care (10-15 days after delivery). These women were randomly assigned to education (n= 68) and control (n = 68) groups. The education group was provided with a face-to-face training session, three phone sessions, and a booklet. The control group received the routine postpartum care on days 1-3, 10-15 and 42-60. Participants completed the functional status and maternal self-confidence questionnaires before the interventio n and eight weeks postpartum. Independent t, chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used for data analysis.RESULTS: No statistically significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of sociodemographic characteristics, except for infant's gender (p > .05). At six weeks after the intervention and by adjusting for baseline scores and infant's sex, mean scores of functional status (adjusted mean difference: 0.9; 95% CI: 0.8-1.03, p < .001) and maternal self-confidence (adjusted mean difference: 16.6; 95% CI: 13.8-19.3, p < .001) were significantly higher in the education group than in the control group.CONCLUSION: This study showed that training women has a positive effect in increasing their self-confidence and improving their functional status.

Abstract:Background: Body image dissatisfaction, leading to a variety of negative emotions and adverse pregnancy or birth outcomes. Studies on body image interventions for pregnant and postpartum women have been reported, yielding mixed results. Existing evidence lacks a comprehensive review of the effectiveness of body image interventions for pregnant and postpartum women. Objective: The aim of this study was to systematically review interventions which aimed at improving body image during pregnancy and postpartum in women of childbearing age, and further to explore their effectiveness. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, SinoMed, CNKI, and Wanfang Database, to retrieve relevant studies. Body image was reported employing descriptive analysis, whereas the Cochrane Handbook tool was used to evaluate the quality and potential bias of each included study. Results: Following established inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 studies were identified from an initial 1,422 records for further analysis, involving 1290 participants. This systematic review grouped body image interventions into lifestyle interventions and psychological interventions based on their content. These interventions yielded more pronounced positive effects on improving body image in pregnant and postpartum women when compared to control groups. And, the statistical difference on psychological interventions is more significant on the whole. Conclusions: Our work offers a comprehensive overview of the effectiveness of body image interventions for pregnant and postpartum women. Psychological interventions are considered to be a suitable measure to improve body image for pregnant or postpartum women. Additional research and practical applications are recommended to enhance the mental health and well-being of perinatal women. Trial registration: PROSPERO registry: CRD42024531531.
The Effect of Supportive Counseling on Mother Psychological Reactions and Mother-Infant Bonding Following Traumatic Childbirth

Abstract:Women experienced traumatic childbirth talk about the lack of opportunity to express their worries and stresses. However, providing psychological support to reduce the long-term and severe consequences is essential. The present study aimed to determine the effect of supportive counseling on mother psychological reactions and mother-infant bonding following traumatic childbirth. This quasi experimental study was performed on 166 postpartum women with psychological birth trauma admitted to public hospitals in Arak, Iran. Postpartum bonding questionnaire was filled before hospital discharge. The women were randomly assigned into the intervention and control groups. The intervention group (n = 83) received individual supportive counseling for two in-person sessions before hospital discharge, and 10-15 days after delivery and a telephone consultation during 4-6 weeks after delivery. The data were collected using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and the postpartum bonding questionnaire, after 2 months. The data were analyzed using SPSS21 software and chi-square, t-test, and ANCOVA were used. The mean score of postpartum depression (PPD) symptoms in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group (MD: -13.40, 95% CI: -10.66 to -16.15, P < 0.001). The severity of the PTSD symptoms in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the control group (MD: -6.37, 95% CI: -3.55 to -9.18, P = 0.04). The mean (SD) of mother-infant bonding after controlling the effect of baseline score indicated a significant difference between the two groups (MD: -7.82, 95% CI: -6.53 to -9.11, P < 0.001). The supportive counseling seems to be effective in reducing PPD and PTSD symptoms, and improving postpartum bonding after traumatic childbirth. The use of group supportive counseling with other time intervals and long follow-up period is recommended. Further, other intervention approaches should be used for preventing the progression of psychological birth trauma toward PTSD.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression and anxiety is one of the most common complications that women face and cause many problems for mother, baby, and family. Considering the effect of self-efficacy on women's adaptation to pregnancy and delivery conditions and their mental health during this period, the present study was designed to investigate the effect of pregnancy training classes based on Bandura self-efficacy theory on postpartum depression and anxiety and type of delivery.MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this clinical trial study, 64 pregnant women were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. Mothers in the intervention group received pregnancy training in eight sessions (each session was 2-hour) from the 20<sup>th</sup> week of pregnancy. The classes were run by a trained midwife and the content of the training was based on Bandura self-efficacy components. The mothers in the control group received routine care. The demographic-reproductive information form, Beck Depression and Spielberger Anxiety Questionnaire were completed by pregnant women of both groups at several times, before the program, 1 week and 1 month after delivery.RESULTS: The results showed that the training program significantly decreased the depression score in 1 week and 1 month after delivery in the intervention group compared to the control group. In addition, this training program decreased the mean score of apparent and hidden anxiety in the intervention group 1 month after delivery, although this decrease was not statistically significant. Furthermore, 80.55% of the intervention group and 58.33% of the control group had vaginal delivery, which were significantly different between the two groups in terms of the type of delivery.CONCLUSION: The findings showed that pregnancy training classes based on Bandura self-efficacy theory decrease depression and anxiety and increases vaginal delivery rate.
