Abstract:As an innovative imaging processing mode, radiomics can extract microscopic information from images for quantitative analysis.The selected features and machine learning model can provide valuable data for clinical decisions in heart disease.Up till now, several studies have demonstrated the role of radiomics in the accurate diagnosis and discrimination of heart disease as well as in the prognosis assessment of the patient with heart disease.Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) displays a wide range of advantages, such as multiparameter, multi-sequence, multi-plane, and no radiation.CMR has advantages in noninvasive assessment of structural and functional heart disease.This paper reviews the work low and related studies on common heart disease based on CMR images in radiomics.
Research landscape of genetics in dilated cardiomyopathy: insight from a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heterogeneous myocardial disorder with diverse genetic or acquired origins. Notable advances have been achieved in discovering and understanding the genetics of DCM. This study aimed to depict the distribution of the main research forces, hotspots, and frontiers in the genetics of DCM, thus shaping future research directions. Methods: Based on the documents published in the Web of Science Core Collection database from 2013 to 2022, co-authorship of authors, institutions, and countries/regions, co-citation of references, and co-occurrence of keywords were conducted respectively to present the distribution of the leading research forces, research hotspots, and emerging trends in the genetics of DCM. Results: 4,141 documents were included, and the annual publications have steadily increased. Seidman, Christine E, Meder, Benjamin, Sinagra, Gianfranco were the most productive authors, German Centre for Cardiovascular Research was the most productive institution, and the USA, China, and Germany were the most prolific countries. The co-occurrence of keywords has generated 8 clusters, including DCM, lamin a/c, heart failure, sudden cardiac death, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac hypertrophy, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, and next-generation sequencing. Frequent keywords with average publication time after 2019 mainly included arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, whole-exome sequencing, RBM 20, phenotype, risk stratification, precision medicine, genotype, and machine learning. Conclusion: The research landscape of genetics in DCM is continuously evolving. Deciphering the genetic profiles by next-generation sequencing and illustrating pathogenic mechanisms of gene variants, establishing innovative treatments for heart failure and improved risk stratification for SCD, uncovering the genetic overlaps between DCM and other inherited cardiomyopathies, as well as identifying genotype-phenotype correlations are the main research hotspots and frontiers in this field.

Abstract:Heart failure (HF) is recognized as a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a common phenotype in patients presenting with HF. Timely diagnosis, appropriate identification of the underlying cause, individualized risk stratification, and prediction of clinical response to treatment have improved the prognosis of DCM over the last few decades. In this article, we reviewed the current evidence on available imaging techniques used for DCM patients. In this direction, we evaluated appropriate scenarios for the implementation of echocardiography, nuclear imaging, and cardiac computed tomography, and we focused on the primordial role that cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) holds in the diagnosis, prognosis, and tailoring of therapeutic options in this population of special clinical interest. We explored the predictive value of CMR toward left ventricular reverse remodeling and prediction of sudden cardiac death, thus guiding the decisions for device therapy. Principles underpinning the use of state-of-the-art CMR techniques such as parametric mapping and feature-tracking strain analysis are also provided, along with expectations for the anticipated future advances in this field. We also attempted to correlate the evidence with clinical practice, with the intent to address questions on selecting the optimal imaging method for different indications and clinical needs. Overall, we recommend a comprehensive assessment of DCM patients at baseline and at follow-up intervals depending on the clinical status, with the addition of CMR as a second-line modality to other imaging techniques. We also provide an algorithm to guide the detailed imaging approach of the patient with DCM. We expect that future guidelines will upgrade their clinical recommendations for the utilization of CMR in DCM, which is expected to further improve the quality of care and the outcomes. This review provides an up-to-date perspective on the imaging of dilated cardiomyopathy patients and will be of clinical value to training doctors and physicians involved in the area of heart failure.

Spatial distribution pattern generating processes in the International Bottom Trawl Survey in the North Sea

Abstract:Abundance indices ofyoung fish in the North Sea derived from the International Bottom Trawl Survey (JBTS) show large interannual fluctuations, which are not in accordance with ICES assessments in every case. The standard estimation of the abundance indices, however, does not explicitly account for potential influences of environmental variables on the spatial aggregation of juvenile fish and the probability distribution of the catches. The present study aims at improving the analysis and tbe estimation procedures for IBTS abundance indices. Variability of bottom trawl catches of age l and 2 whiting and cod was . studied on three spatial scales: at fixed stations, within statisticaI rectangles and within the species-specific standard areas used in the IBTS. Daylight period, temperature, salinity, water depth. and bottom type were considered as potential environmental variables. influencing the catches. At fixed stations significant diff~rences between day and night catches were found .. Variability within rectangles increased with the degree of heterogeneity in theenvironmerit, where the effects of temperature and depth were most pronounced. Frequency distributions ofthe average catch by rectangle always deviate substantially from normal distriputions. Lognormal-based Generalized Linear Models for whiting and Delta-Iognormal models for cod revealed that temperature and, in particular, depth contribute significantly to the variability also between rectangles. It is further demonstrated that depth can be used as a covariate in the estimation of abundance indices for the species-specific standard areas. Introduction The International Bottom Trawl Survey (JBTS) in the North Sea conducted in February each year started in the beginning of the 1960's and aimed in the start exclusively at juvenile herring. Over the years the objectives of this survey were broadened to provide recruitment indices also for cod Gadus morhua, haddock Melanogrammus aeglejinus and whiting Merlangius merlangus, and the survey area was extended in the 1980's to include the northern North Sea and the SkagerraklKattegat (Heessen et al. 1997). At the same time the GOV (Grand Ouverture Verticale) trawl was introduced as standard gear and in the early 1990's a large amount of effort was put into standardizing the sampling'design (ICES 1992, 1996a). The survey is stratified based on a grid of statisticaI rectangles ("squares") of l o longitude and 0.5 o latitude (~30 ~ 30 nm; Fig. 1). Ships oftwo different countries usually fish each 'square so that at least two hauls are made per square, and the tows conducted 'fromone vessel in adjacent squares are normally separated by at least 10 nm. The survey provides abundance indices that are calculated by taking the average catch per hour trawling of all hauls within a square, and then the average of all squares within species-specific standard areas. Although it is recommended that trawling should be Iimited to daylight hours, some hauls are made during twilight or night due to a short daylight period, and night catches are only excluded from the index calculation for herring (Heessen et al. 1997). The fIrst quarter IBTS abundance indices show large interannual fluctuations, which do not coincide with VPA estimates in every case. For gadoids where multiple survey information isavailable, the fIrst quarter IBTS performs less well for cod than other surveys (ICES 1996b, Wieland 1998), and there is an inconsistency between the surveys and the assessment for whiting in general (Cook 1997, ICES 1998). However, the present procedure of calculating the abundance indices does not consider the error structure of the catches. The use of a rigorous statisticaI approach can potentially improve the perfoimance ofthe survey indices (e.g. Pennington 1983, Stefånsson 1996). There are numerous technical aspects of trawling which affect survey catches, and similarly the behaviour and the distribution of the fish in relation to environmental conditions influence catch efficiency. For example, diumal variations in bottom trawl catches have been observed for different fish species includmg gadoids (Ehrich & Groger 1989, Engås & Soldal 1992, Michalsen et al. 1996), and interannual differences in catchability due to changes in the distribution related to water temperature and salinity were found for cod (Smith & Page 1996). In the present study, the variability ofbottom trawl catches for age l and 2 whiting and cod is analyzed on three spatial scales with different aspects. These are: l) the effect of the daylight period on catches from fixed stations, 2) influences rif environmental variables on catches obtained within a statisticaI square, and 3) the application of statisticaI methods which account for the frequency distribution of the catches, and which also consider environmerital variables as cov:ariates in the calculation of abundance indices for the IBTS species-specific standard areas. Material and Methods Variability atfIXed stations Basic data for the analysis ofvariability ofbottom trawl catches at fixed locations were available from investigations carried out by the Danish Institute for Fisheries Research. The surveys were originally designed to sample whiting stomachs (riegnbol 1992, Pedersen 1996, Pedersen submitted). The sampling was conducted in autumn 1988 and 1989 and in spring 1992 and 1993 with RN Dana. Hauls were made in about 4 hour time intervals over a 72-hour period each at a single station. In 1988 and 1989 the tracks of the hauls were laid out in a star pattem crossing through the same center, and are thus only exact replicates conceming their central position. In 1992 and 1993 parallel tracks close to each other in a box of 5 * 7 nm were used. In total 93 hauls were selected for analysis which were all carried out with an EXPO trawl. Sampling periods and statisticai rectangles (Fig. l) in which the sampling was performed are given in Table l. Towing time was 60 min in most cases, towing speed amounted to 3.4 kn on average, and vertical net openingranged between 5 and IO m.
Research status and trends of the diabetic cardiomyopathy in the past 10 years (2012–2021): A bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: Diabetic cardiomyopathy is one of the most life-threatening diabetic complications. However, the previous studies only discuss a particular aspect or characteristic of DCM, the current state and trends were explored by limited research. We aimed to perform a systemically bibliometric study of DCM research progress status in the past decade, visualize the internal conceptual structure and potential associations, and further explore the prospective study trends. Methods: Articles related to DCM published from January 2012 to December 2021 were collected in the Web of Science core collection (WoSCC) database on June 24, 2022. We exported all bibliographic records, including titles, abstracts, keywords, authorship, institutions, addresses, publishing sources, references, citation times, and year of publication. In addition, the journal Impact Factor and Hirsch index were obtained from the Journal Citation Report. We conducted the data screening, statistical analysis, and visualization via the Bibliometrix R package. VOS viewer software was employed to generate the collaboration network map among countries and institutions for better performance in visualization. Results: In total, 1,887 original research articles from 2012 to 2021 were identified. The number of annual publications rapidly increased from 107 to 278, and a drastic increase in citation times was observed in 2017–2019. As for global contributions, the United States was the most influential country with the highest international collaboration, while China was the most productive country. Professor Cai Lu was the most prolific author. Shandong University published the most articles. Cardiovascular Diabetology journal released the most DCM-related articles. "Metabolic Stress-induced Activation of FoxO1 Triggers Diabetic Cardiomyopathy in Mice" Battiprolu PK et al., J Clin Invest, 2012. was the most top-cited article regarding local citations. The top three keywords in terms of frequency were apoptosis, oxidative stress, and fibrosis. The analysis of future topic trends indicated that "Forkhead box protein O1," "Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction," "Dapagliflozin," "Thioredoxin," "Mitochondria dysfunction," "Glucose," "Pyroptosis," "Cardiac fibroblast" and "Long non-coding RNA" could be promising hotspots. Conclusion: This study provides meaningful insights into DCM, which is expected to assist cardiologists and endocrinologists in exploring frontiers and future research directions in the domain through a refined and concise summary.

Abstract:Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has an important emerging role in the evaluation and management of patients with cardiomyopathies, especially in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). It allows a non-invasive characterization of myocardial tissue, thus assisting early diagnosis and precise phenotyping of the different cardiomyopathies, which is an essential step for early and individualized treatment of patients. Using imaging techniques such as late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), standard and advanced quantification as well as quantitative mapping parameters, CMR-based tissue characterization is useful in the differential diagnosis of DCM and risk stratification. The purpose of this article is to review the utility of CMR in the diagnosis and management of idiopathic DCM, as well as risk prediction and prognosis based on standard and emerging CMR contrast and non-contrast techniques. This is consistent with current evidence and guidance moving beyond traditional prognostic markers such as ejection fraction.

Abstract:Technology in Cancer Research &Treatment, Volume 23, Issue , January-December 2024. Objectives: The purpose of this research is to summarize the structure of radiomics-based knowledge and to explore potential trends and priorities by using bibliometric analysis. Methods: Select radiomics-related publications from 2012 to October 2022 from the Science Core Collection Web site. Use VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace (version 6.1.3), Tableau (version 2022), Microsoft Excel and Rstudio's free online platforms (http://bibliometric.com) for co-writing, co-citing, and co-occurrence analysis of countries, institutions, authors, references, and keywords in the field. The visual analysis is also carried out on it. Results: The study included 6428 articles. Since 2012, there has been an increase in research papers based on radiomics. Judging by publications, China has made the largest contribution in this area. We identify the most productive institutions and authors as Fudan University and Tianjie. The top three magazines with the most publications are《FRONTIERS IN ONCOLOGY》, 《EUROPEAN RADIOLOGY》, and 《CANCERS》. According to the results of reference and keyword analysis, "deep learning, nomogram, ultrasound, f-18-fdg, machine learning, covid-19, radiogenomics" has been determined as the main research direction in the future. Conclusion: Radiomics is in a phase of vigorous development with broad prospects. Cross-border cooperation between countries and institutions should be strengthened in the future. It can be predicted that the development of deep learning-based models and multimodal fusion models will be the focus of future research. Advances in knowledge: This study explores the current state of research and hot spots in the field of radiomics from multiple perspectives, comprehensively, and objectively reflecting the evolving trends in imaging-related research and providing a reference for future research.

Prognostic value of enhanced cine cardiac MRI-based radiomics in dilated cardiomyopathy

Abstract:Background: Early precise identification of high-risk dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) phenotype is essential for clinical decision-making and patient surveillance. The aim of the study was to assess the prognostic value of enhanced cine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR)-based radiomics in DCM. Methods: We prospectively enrolled 401 (training set: 281; test set: 120) DCM patients. Radiomic features were extracted from enhanced cine images of entire left ventricular wall and selected by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. Different predictive models were built using logistic regression classifier to predict all-cause mortality and heart transplantation. Model performances were compared with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs). Kaplan-Meier curves, log-rank test, and Cox regression were used for survival analysis. Results: Endpoint events occurred in 65 patients over a median follow-up period of 25.4 months. 13 radiomic features were finally selected. The Rad_Combined model integrating clinical characteristics, CMR parameters and radiomics features achieved the best performance with an AUC of 0.836 and 0.835 in the training and test sets, respectively. High-risk groups with endpoint events defined by the Rad_Combined model had significantly shorter survival time than low-risk group in both the training [Hazard Ratio (HR) = 7.74, P < 0.001] and test sets (HR = 4.84, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The Rad_Combined model might serve as an effective tool to help risk stratification and clinical decision-making for patients with DCM. Abstract:Radiomics uses advanced image analysis to extract massive amounts of quantitative information from digital images, which is not otherwise distinguishable to the human eye. The mined data can be used to explore and establish new and undiscovered correlations between these imaging features and clinical end points. Cardiac computed tomography (CT) is a first-line imaging modality for evaluating coronary artery disease and has a primary role in the assessment of cardiac structures. Conventional interpretation of cardiac CT images relies mostly on subjective and qualitative analysis, as well as basic geometric quantification. To date, some proof-of-concept studies have demonstrated the feasibility and diagnostic performance of cardiac CT radiomics analysis. This review describes the current literature on radiomics in cardiac CT and discusses its advantages, challenges, and future directions. Although much evidences are needed in this field, cardiac CT radiomics has a lot to offer to patients and physicians with potential to define cardiac disease phenotypes on imaging with higher precision.

Abstract:Background: Currently, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to remain in the pandemic stage, leading to severe challenges in the global public healthcare system. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods have played an important role in the diagnosis of COVID-19 and the structural evaluation of the affected organs. Reviewing and summarizing the application of MRI has significant clinical implications for COVID-19. Objective: The study aimed to analyze literature related to the application of MRI in COVID-19 using bibliometric tools, to explore the research status, hotspots, and developmental trends in this field, and to provide a reference for the application of MRI in the clinical diagnosis and evaluation of COVID-19. Methods: We used the Web of Science Core Collection database to search and collect relevant literature on the use of MRI in COVID-19. The authors, institutes, countries, journals, and keyword modules of the bibliometric analysis software CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to analyze and plot the network map. Results: A total of 1506 relevant articles were shortlisted through the search; the earliest study was published in 2019, showing an overall upward trend every year. The research was mainly presented as published articles. Clinical neurology was found to be the primary discipline. The United States had the highest publication volume and influence in this field. Countries around the world cooperated more closely. The Cureus Journal of Medical Science was the main periodical to publish articles. Institutes, such as Harvard Medical School, Mayo Clinic, and Massachusetts General Hospital, have published a large number of papers. Some of the high-frequency keywords were "COVID-19", "SARS-CoV-2", "magnetic resonance", "myocarditis", and "cardiac magnetic resonance imaging". The keyword clustering study showed that the current research mainly focuses on five "hot" directions. Conclusion: There is a need to strengthen cross-teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration in the future to completely explore the positive role of MRI in COVID-19 and to discover breakthroughs for the challenges in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19.

Abstract:Background: Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) has received extensive attention in clinical practice; however, a quantitative assessment of published literature in this domain is presently lacking. This study thus aimed to characterize the application conditions, developmental trends, and research hot spots of DECT using bibliometric analysis.Methods: All literature on DECT was retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) on January 22, 2023. The co-occurrence, cooperation network, and co-citation of countries, institutions, references, authors, journals, and keywords were analyzed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and R-bibliometrix software.Results: In total, 4,720 original articles and reviews were included. The number of publications related to DECT has rapidly increased since 2006. The USA (n=1,662) and Mayo Clinic (n=178) were found to be the most productive country and institution, respectively. The most cited article was published by Johnson TRC et al., while the article published by McCollough CH et al. in 2015 had the most co-citations. Schoepf UJ ranked first with most articles among 16,838 authors. The journal with the most published articles was European Radiology, with 411 publications. The timeline analysis indicated that material decomposition was the most recent topic, followed by gout, radiomics, proton therapy, and bone marrow edema.Conclusions: An increasing number of researchers are committed to researching DECT, with the USA making the most significant contributions in this area. Prior studies have primarily concentrated on cardiovascular diseases, and contemporary hot spots include expansion into to other fields, such as iodine quantification, deep learning, and bone marrow edema.

Abstract:Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging publishes novel research and technical developments in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular imaging. The journal published many innovative studies during 2023 and achieved an impact factor for the first time since its inaugural issue in 2019, with an impact factor of 7.0. The current review article, led by the Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging trainee editorial board, highlights the most impactful articles published in the journal between November 2022 and October 2023. The review encompasses various aspects of coronary CT, photon-counting detector CT, PET/MRI, cardiac MRI, congenital heart disease, vascular imaging, thoracic imaging, artificial intelligence, and health services research. Key highlights include the potential for photon-counting detector CT to reduce contrast media volumes, utility of combined PET/MRI in the evaluation of cardiac sarcoidosis, the prognostic value of left atrial late gadolinium enhancement at MRI in predicting incident atrial fibrillation, the utility of an artificial intelligence tool to optimize detection of incidental pulmonary embolism, and standardization of medical terminology for cardiac CT. Ongoing research and future directions include evaluation of novel PET tracers for assessment of myocardial fibrosis, deployment of AI tools in clinical cardiovascular imaging workflows, and growing awareness of the need to improve environmental sustainability in imaging. Abstract:Most research in information retrieval has focused on the problem of matching user queries to stored document representations. In this talk, I will take a step back from the core matching algorithms and look at other sources of information that can fruitfully be brought to bear to improve information access in a variety of applications. Important sources include: a) information about the world of objects (domain modeling); b) information about the user (user modeling); and c) improved interactive interfaces for information access and management.
Molecular imaging research in atherosclerosis: A 23-year scientometric and visual analysis

Abstract:Background: Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are major global health problems, and the main cause is atherosclerosis. Recently, molecular imaging has been widely employed in the diagnosis and therapeutic applications of a variety of diseases, including atherosclerosis. Substantive facts have announced that molecular imaging has broad prospects in the early diagnosis and targeted treatment of atherosclerosis. Objective: We conducted a scientometric analysis of the scientific publications over the past 23 years on molecular imaging research in atherosclerosis, so as to identify the key progress, hotspots, and emerging trends. Methods: Original research and reviews regarding molecular imaging in atherosclerosis were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Microsoft Excel 2021 was used to analyze the main findings. CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and a scientometric online platform were used to perform visualization analysis of the co-citation of journals and references, co-occurrence of keywords, and collaboration between countries/regions, institutions, and authors. Results: A total of 1755 publications were finally included, which were published by 795 authors in 443 institutions from 59 countries/regions. The United States was the top country in terms of the number and centrality of publications in this domain, with 810 papers and a centrality of 0.38, and Harvard University published the largest number of articles (182). Fayad, ZA was the most productive author, with 73 papers, while LIBBY P had the most co-citations (493). CIRCULATION was the top co-cited journal with a frequency of 1,411, followed by ARTERIOSCL THROM VAS (1,128). The co-citation references analysis identified eight clusters with a well-structured network (Q = 0.6439) and highly convincing clustering (S = 0.8865). All the studies calculated by keyword co-occurrence were divided into five clusters: "nanoparticle," "magnetic resonance imaging," "inflammation," "positron emission tomography," and "ultrasonography". Hot topics mainly focused on cardiovascular disease, contrast media, macrophage, vulnerable plaque, and microbubbles. Sodium fluoride ⁃PET, targeted drug delivery, OCT, photoacoustic imaging, ROS, and oxidative stress were identified as the potential trends. Conclusion: Molecular imaging research in atherosclerosis has attracted extensive attention in academia, while the challenges of clinical transformation faced in this field have been described in this review. The findings of the present research can inform funding agencies and researchers toward future directions.

Abstract:In recent years, significant advancements in radiofrequency ablation technology have notably enhanced arrhythmia treatment in cardiology. Technological advancements and increasing clinical adoption have made radiofrequency ablation a key therapy in improving life quality for patients with conditions like atrial fibrillation (AF). Consequently, there has been a marked increase in research output, underscoring the technology's significance and its potential in cardiology. Aims to comprehensively analyze cardiology's radiofrequency ablation research trends, identifying leading countries and institutions in international collaborations, key researchers' contributions, and evolving research hotspots. The study, based on the Web of Science Core Collection database, reviewed the literatures from 2004 to 2023. CiteSpace 6.2.R7 Basic was used for bibliometric analysis, which examined annual publication trends, international collaboration networks, key authors, leading research institutions, major journals, keyword co-occurrence and clustering trends. Analyzing 3423 relevant articles, this study reveals a consistent growth in cardiology radiofrequency ablation research since 2004. The analysis shows that the United States, Germany, and France hold central roles in the international collaboration network, with leading authors from premier US and European institutions. Keyword cluster analysis identifies "atrial flutter" and "ventricular tachycardia" as current research focal points. Cardiology radiofrequency ablation research shows a growth trend, led by the United States and European countries. Research hotspots are concentrated on the diverse applications of radiofrequency ablation technology and the treatment of AF. Future studies may increasingly focus on technological innovation and the deepening of clinical applications.

A bibliometric analysis of cardiotoxicity in cancer radiotherapy

Abstract:Background: Radiotherapy, a primary treatment for malignant cancer, presents significant clinical challenges globally due to its associated adverse effects, especially with the increased survival rates of cancer patients. Radiation induced heart disease (RIHD) significantly impacts the long-term survival and quality of life of cancer survivors as one of the most devastating consequences. Quite a few studies have been conducted on preclinical and clinical trials of RIHD, showing promising success to some extent. However, no researchers have performed a comprehensive bibliometric study so far. Objective: This study attempts to gain a deeper understanding of the focal points and patterns in RIHD research and to pinpoint prospective new research avenues using bibliometrics. Methods: The study group obtained related 1554 publications between 1990 and 2023 on the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) through a scientific search query. Visualization tools like CiteSpace and VOSviewer were utilized to realize the visual analysis of countries, authors, journals, references and keywords, identifying the hotspots and frontiers in this research field. Results: After collecting all the data, a total of 1554 documents were categorized and analyzed using the above tools. The annual number of publications in the field of RIHD shows a continuous growth trend. In 2013, there was a significant rise in the number of linked publications, with the majority of authors being from the USA, according to the statistics. Among all the journals, INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY BIOLOGY PHYSICS published the most relevant papers. Cluster analysis of the references showed that research on RIHD has focused on breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and Hodgkin's lymphoma (also among the three main clusters), preclinical research, childhood cancer, heart dose, coronary artery disease, etc, which are also hot topics in the field. High-frequency keywords in the analysis include risk factors, cancer types, heart disease, survival, trials, proton therapy (PT), etc. Conclusion: Future research on RIHD will mostly focus on thoracic cancer, whose exact cause is yet unknown, with preclinical trials playing an important role. Preventing, consistently monitoring, promptly diagnosing, and timely treating are crucial to decreasing RIHD and extending the life expectancy of cancer survivors.

Research on ultrasound-based radiomics: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Background: A large number of studies related to ultrasound-based radiomics have been published in recent years; however, a systematic bibliometric analysis of this topic has not yet been conducted. In this study, we attempted to identify the hotspots and frontiers in ultrasound-based radiomics through bibliometrics and to systematically characterize the overall framework and characteristics of studies through mapping and visualization. Methods: A literature search was carried out in Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from January 2016 to December 2023 according to a predetermined search formula. Bibliometric analysis and visualization of the results were performed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R, and other platforms. Results: Ultimately, 466 eligible papers were included in the study. Publication trend analysis showed that the annual publication trend of journals in ultrasound-based radiomics could be divided into three phases: there were no more than five documents published in this field in any year before 2018, a small yearly increase in the number of annual publications occurred between 2018 and 2022, and a high, stable number of publications appeared after 2022. In the analysis of publication sources, China was found to be the main contributor, with a much higher number of publications than other countries, and was followed by the United States and Italy. Frontiers in Oncology was the journal with the highest number of papers in this field, publishing 60 articles. Among the academic institutions, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences ranked as the top three in terms of the number of documents. In the analysis of authors and cocited authors, the author with the most publications was Yuanyuan Wang, who has published 19 articles in 8 years, while Philippe Lambin was the most cited author, with 233 citations. Visualization of the results from the cocitation analysis of the literature revealed a strong centrality of the subject terms papillary thyroid cancer, biological behavior, potential biomarkers, and comparative assessment, which may be the main focal points of research in this subject. Based on the findings of the keyword analysis and cluster analysis, the keywords can be categorized into two major groups: (I) technological innovations that enable the construction of radiomics models such as machine learning and deep learning and (II) applications of predictive models to support clinical decision-making in certain diseases, such as papillary thyroid cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and breast cancer. Conclusions: Ultrasound-based radiomics has received widespread attention in the medical field and has been gradually been applied in clinical research. Radiomics, a relatively late development in medical technology, has made substantial contributions to the diagnosis, prediction, and prognostic evaluation of diseases. Additionally, the coupling of artificial intelligence techniques with ultrasound imaging has yielded a number of promising tools that facilitate clinical decision-making and enable the practice of precision medicine. Finally, the development of ultrasound-based radiomics requires multidisciplinary cooperation and joint efforts from the field biomedicine, information technology, statistics, and clinical medicine.
Exploring changes in depression and radiology-related publications research focus: A bibliometrics and content analysis based on natural language processing

Abstract:Objective: This study aims to construct and use natural language processing and other methods to analyze major depressive disorder (MDD) and radiology studies' publications in the PubMed database to understand the historical growth, current state, and potential expansion trend. Methods: All MDD radiology studies publications from January 2002 to January 2022 were downloaded from PubMed using R, a statistical computing language. R and the interpretive general-purpose programming language Python were used to extract publication dates, geographic information, and abstracts from each publication's metadata for bibliometric analysis. The generative statistical algorithm "Latent Dirichlet allocation" (LDA) was applied to identify specific research focus and trends. The unsupervised Leuven algorithm was used to build a network to identify relationships between research focus. Results: A total of 5,566 publications on MDD and radiology research were identified, and there is a rapid upward trend. The top-cited publications were 11,042, and the highly-cited publications focused on improving diagnostic performance and establishing imaging standards. Publications came from 76 countries, with the most from research institutions in the United States and China. Hospitals and radiology departments take the lead in research and have an advantage. The extensive field of study contains 12,058 Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms. Based on the LDA algorithm, three areas were identified that have become the focus of research in recent years, "Symptoms and treatment," "Brain structure and imaging," and "Comorbidities research." Conclusion: Latent Dirichlet allocation analysis methods can be well used to analyze many texts and discover recent research trends and focus. In the past 20 years, the research on MDD and radiology has focused on exploring MDD mechanisms, establishing standards, and constructing imaging methods. Recent research focuses are "Symptoms and sleep," "Brain structure study," and "functional connectivity." New progress may be made in studies on MDD complications and the combination of brain structure and metabolism.

Abstract:Since the mid-1990s, China has experienced profound economic and social changes, as well as seismic shifts in residents’ living and health conditions. With the acceleration of population aging and urbanization, the impact of chronic disease risk factors on the health of residents has become more and more significant, among which cardiovascular disease has become the leading cause of death in urban and rural residents in China.1,2 Approximately 4 million people die of cardiovascular disease in China every year.2 To fight against these chronic disorders and emerging infectious diseases, scientists and radiologists from China have made many efforts and important contributions in the past 2 decades.1,2 Driven by the rapid development of computing power, algorithm optimization and data storage capabilities, Chinese cardiothoracic radiology is experiencing its second development peak. Chinese cardiothoracic radiologists have developed and validated many advanced imaging techniques and integrated them into routine clinical use, such as dual-energy computed tomography pulmonary angiography, computed tomography–derived fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR), and both cardiac magnetic resonance and computed tomography myocardial perfusion techniques. These advanced imaging techniques have been demonstrated to have impressive discriminative capabilities, receiving sufficient attention in Chinese medical research.3–7 In recent years, a large number of articles on artificial intelligence methods to solve imaging tasks have flooded into medical journals, promoting the interdisciplinary integration of radiology, engineering, computer science, and other fields, culminating in the creation of machine learning based pulmonary nodule detection software and machine learning CT-FFR software in China.4,8 In this special China issue of the Journal, Tang and colleagues’9–11 review articles briefly describe the past, present, and future of cardiovascular imaging, thoracic imaging, and imaging in cardiac intervention in China, reflecting the progression and achievements of Chinese Cardiothoracic Radiology over the past 2 decades. Thoracic and cardiovascular imaging is involved in many complex imaging and analysis procedures. To facilitate the dissemination of advanced cardiovascular imaging techniques in a standardized manner across China, Chinese cardiothoracic radiologists are actively involved in the development, promotion, and application of clinical guidelines, expert consensus, and recommendations. In this special issue, we publish the Chinese expert consensus document addressing CT-FFR on behalf of the Chinese Society of Radiology.12 Nowadays, Chinese cardiothoracic radiologists are pushing these advanced cardiovascular imaging techniques into clinical routine applications, an additional effort to lay a solid foundation for future research. When the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic swept the world, causing serious losses of life and property, Chinese cardiothoracic radiologists fought in the forefront against this new disease. They rapidly summarized a series of imaging manifestations, dynamic changes of COVID-19 in chest and heart imaging, reported bioimaging markers of COVID-19, used machine learning techniques to automatically, efficiently and accurately detect COVID-19, classified the severity and assessed the prognosis of the disease.13–18 The infection control measures and experiences of radiology departments were published and disseminated in some international journals such as the Journal of Thoracic Imaging and the Korean Journal of Radiology.19,20 These experiences are still playing an important role in combating COVID-19 around the world. Although still facing many great challenges such as methodological limitations and the lack of a large prospective multicenter study, Chinese Cardiothoracic Radiology has been exploring safer, more cost-effective, and patient-friendly noninvasive modalities to replace invasive methods. Many knowledge gaps still exist and must be bridged. Multidisciplinary cooperation and breakthroughs are imperative to improve the levels of scientific study and clinical transformation, with sustained cooperation being essential to solve future problems. As Chinese Cardiothoracic Radiology matures, we are eager to unite with more clinical physicians and scientists around the world to bring discoveries in cardiothoracic radiology from the laboratory to the larger public arena of clinical daily practice. Chinese Cardiothoracic Radiology is moving forward with an unyielding steadfastness, embracing its most prosperous era. We firmly believe that with our best efforts, the future of Chinese Cardiothoracic Radiology is promising.
Application research of radiomics in colorectal cancer: A bibliometric study

Abstract:Background: Radiomics has shown great potential in the clinical field of colorectal cancer (CRC). However, few bibliometric studies have systematically analyzed existing research in this field. The purpose of this study is to understand the current research status and future development directions of CRC. Methods: Search the English documents on the application of radiomics in the field of CRC research included in the Web of Science Core Collection from its establishment to October 2023. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used to conduct bibliometric and visual analysis of online publications related to countries/regions, authors, journals, references, and keywords in this field. Results: A total of 735 relevant documents published from Web of Science Core Collection to October 2023 were retrieved, and a total of 419 documents were obtained based on the screening criteria, including 376 articles and 43 reviews. The number of publications is increasing year by year. Among them, China publishes the most relevant documents (n = 238), which is much higher than Italy (n = 69) and the United States (n = 63). Tian Jie is the author with the most publications and citations (n = 17, citations = 2128), GE Healthcare is the most productive institution (n = 26), Frontiers in Oncology is the journal with the most publications (n = 60), and European Radiology is the most cited journal (n = 776). Hot spots for the application of radiomics in CRC include magnetic resonance, neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, survival, texture analysis, and machine learning. These directions are the current hot spots for the application of radiomics research in CRC and may be the direction of continued development in the future. Conclusion: Through bibliometric analysis, the application of radiomics in CRC has been increasing year by year. The application of radiomics improves the accuracy of preoperative diagnosis, prediction, and prognosis of CRC. The results of bibliometrics analysis provide a valuable reference for the research direction of radiomics. However, radiomics still faces many challenges in the future, such as the single nature of the data source which may affect the comprehensiveness of the results. Future studies can further expand the data sources and build a multicenter public database to more comprehensively reflect the research status and development trend of CRC radiomics.
