Abstract:Compensatory dynamics are an important suite of mechanisms that can stabilize community and ecosystem attributes in systems subject to environmental fluctuations. However, few experimental investigations of compensatory dynamics have addressed these mechanisms in systems of real-world complexity, and existing evidence relies heavily on correlative analyses, retrospective examination, and experiments in simple systems. We investigated the potential for compensatory dynamics to stabilize plankton communities in plankton mesocosm systems of real-world complexity. We employed four types of perturbations including two types of nutrient pulses, shading, and acidification. To quantify how communities responded to these perturbations, we used a measure of community-wide synchrony combined with spectral analysis that allowed us to assess timescale-specific community dynamics, for example, whether dynamics were synchronous at some timescales but compensatory at others. The 150-d experiment produced 32-point time series of all zooplankton taxa in the mesocosms. We then used those time series to evaluate total zooplankton biomass as an aggregate property and to evaluate community dynamics. For three of our four perturbation types, total zooplankton biomass was significantly less variable in systems with environmental variation than in constant environments. For the same three perturbation types, community-wide synchrony was much lower in fluctuating environments than in the constant environment, particularly at longer timescales (periods ≈ 60 d). Additionally, there were strong negative correlations between population temporal variances and the level of community-wide synchrony. Taken together, these results strongly imply that compensatory interactions between species stabilized total biomass in response to perturbations. Diversity did not differ significantly across either treatments or perturbation types, thus ruling out several classes of mechanisms driven by changes in diversity. We also used several pieces of secondary evidence to evaluate the particular mechanism behind compensatory responses since a wide variety of mechanisms are hypothesized to produce compensatory dynamics. We concluded that fluctuation dependent endogenous cycles that occur as a consequence of consumer-resource interactions in competitive communities were the most likely explanation for the compensatory dynamics observed in our experiment. As with our previous work, scale-dependent dynamics were also a key to understanding compensatory dynamics in these experimental communities.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction: Recent research shows the CORE is the central link in the kinetic chain of aerobic gymnastics. The athlete’s synchronized performances depend not only on strength but also on the balance and precision of the movements that start from this area. Although the importance of this muscle group is recognized, there is no consensus about the most effective protocol to increase performance in aerobic gymnastics athletes. Objective: Develop and verify the influence of a protocol for CORE training on the aerobic gymnasts’ balance. Methods: This paper selects high-level aerobic gymnastics athletes and randomly divides them into experimental and control groups. The experiment was conducted over eight weeks. The experimental group adopted systematic core strength training methods, and the control group continued with traditional conventional strength training methods. Volunteers were tested for physical fitness before and after the experiment. Results: Aerobic gymnastics athletes’ physical fitness and athletic abilities were significantly improved after training. Conclusion: The CORE training protocol in aerobic gymnastics athletes increased the execution quality in complex movements. Evidence Level II; Therapeutic Studies - Investigating the result.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Many studies have emphasized the importance of stabilization exercises (SE) for the management of non-specific low back pain (NSLBP), yet there is no study assessing all aspects of core stability in comparing SE and other exercises. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of SE on pain and core stability by using core stability tests that focus on all aspects of core stability in patients with NSLBP. METHODS: Thirty-seven individuals with chronic NSLBP were randomly divided into two groups as SE and conventional exercises (CE). Both groups underwent the progressive exercise program three days per week for six weeks. The assessments were conducted before and after the exercise programs. The outcome measures included pain, disability, trunk strength, trunk flexor, extensor and lateral flexor endurance, function, flexibility, and motor control during eyes open/closed. RESULTS: All assessment parameters except motor control during eyes open improved after SE (p < 0.05). Also, all assessment parameters except motor control during eyes open/closed and lateral trunk endurance improved after CE (p < 0.05). When comparing groups for gain scores, there were more significant improvements in pain during activity, endurance and function after SE (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: SE is more effective than CE in reducing pain during activity and improving core stability regarding functionality and endurance.

Abstract:Urpose: Aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks core training program on some physiological and physical parameters of handball team’s female players. Material and Methods: Volunteers were separated two groups as CTG (training group) and CG (control group). CTG was applied core strength training 30 min sessions 8 weeks and 3 days per week additionally handball trainings. CG wasn’t applied any core training. Effects of different core training regimes were compared after eight weeks with repeated measures MANOVA for the tests. Results: Neither group demonstrated difference for body composition measurements for repeated test scores and between groups comparisons. Significant difference was found BFP (body fat percentage) parameters on CTG. Sprint, agility, SLJ (standing long jump) scores did not increase in any groups and no difference was found between groups. Significance was found in VJ (vertical jump), back and leg strength, right and left hand grip strength, flexibility, balance parameters on CTG. Also significance was found in all core parameters on CTG. Conclusions: Results indicate that core trainings were very effective on performance based features especially on strength and core stability. So these exercises should be included in the training programs of female handball players.
Effect of 12 Weeks Core Training on Core Muscle Performance in Rhythmic Gymnastics

Abstract:Background: Rhythmic gymnastics performance is characterized by technical elements involving flexibility, aerobic capacity and strength. Increased core strength in rhythmic gymnastics could lead to improved sporting performance. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of 12 weeks of core muscle training on core muscle performance in rhythmic gymnasts. Methods: A randomized controlled study involving 24 rhythmic gymnastics was conducted. Participants were randomly assigned to a control group (CG; n = 12; age 13.50 ± 3.17 years) or a training group (TG; n = 12; age 14.41 ± 2.35 years). Body composition, isometric strength of trunk, core endurance and core muscle electromyographic activity were measured (EMG) after 12 weeks of core training. Independent sample t-tests were carried out to compare baseline values between groups. A two-way repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) (time × group) was applied. Results: The TG improved body composition, trunk lean mass (mean differences MD = −0.31; p = 0.040), lean mass (MD = 0.43; p = 0.037) and bone mass (MD = −0.06; p < 0.001) after training. Core training increased isometric strength of trunk, flexion test (MD = −21.53; p = 0.019) and extension test (MD = 22.7; p = 0.049), as well as the prone bridge core endurance test (MD = −11.27; p = 0.040). The EMG values also increased in the TG in prone bridge for front trunk (MD = −58.58; p = 0.026). Conclusions: Core strength training leads to improvements in body composition, as well as improvements in trunk strength and increases in muscle electromyographic activity. These improvements could therefore improve performance during competitive rhythmic gymnastics exercises.

Abstract:Background: Explosive strength is essential for rhythmic gymnasts’ performance. It has been suggested that core stability (CS) and plyometric training can enhance athletes’ explosive strength. Nevertheless, there is some uncertainty about the effects of integrated core and plyometric training (CPT) programs on rhythmic gymnastics (RG) performances. Purpose: to evaluate the effects of an integrated functional CPT program on young rhythmic gymnasts’ explosive strength and jump/leap performance. Method: We recruited 44 young (age = 10.5 ± 1.8 years old; peak height velocity, PHV = 12.2 ± 0.6 years old) female rhythmic gymnasts and randomly allocated them into a control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG). Pre and post-intervention, the explosive strength of both groups was assessed using countermovement jump (CMJ) and single-leg CMJ (SLCMJ) tests, conducted using a force platform, and expert RG judges evaluated their performance of RG-specific jumps. Before the post-test, the EG (n = 23) completed an 8 week functional CPT program based on RG technical requirements. Meanwhile, the participants in the CG (n = 21) received their regular training sessions. Linear mixed model analyses were applied to evaluate the effects of an intra-subject factor (TIME: pre-post) and an inter-subject factor (GROUP: control-experimental) on each dependent variable. When no significant interaction effect was found, Cohen’s d effect size was calculated. Results: After 8 weeks, the EG obtained significantly better results in all variables measured by the CMJ and SLCMJ (p < 0.01) tests. The judges’ scores indicated greater improvements in the EG after the CPT program in the stag and the split leap. Conclusions: An integrated functional CPT program improved explosive strength in a group of young rhythmic gymnasts and had a large impact on aspects of RG-specific performance. Coaches should consider using this CPT to improve RG performance.

Abstract:The “IAAF Kids Athletics” program aims to ensure a steady and sustainable policy of athletics development. The program is not intended only for clubs and member federations but also for schools and all institutions that are interested in the well-being of children. The IAAF seeks to popularize athletics in six areas through several competitions called “A Team Event for Children,” comprising three event groups: Sprinting/Running Event Group, Jumping Event Group, and Throwing Event Group. Three age categories are targeted by the program: 7-8 years, 9-10 years, and 11-12 years. Core strength consists of the motor control and muscular capacity of the lumbopelvic-hip complex. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of a 10-week core strength training program on dynamic balance, power, and program skills among child athletics. Twenty children were divided into two groups. The experimental group consisted of 10 children in the 7-8 year age group. The subjects in this group underwent a core strength training program that consisted of body weight exercises, the Swiss ball, and the medicine ball for 10 weeks. The control group consisted of 10 children who were the same age as the experimental group. Height, weight, power, dynamic balance, and training age were assessed. All of the subjects were free of any disorders known to affect performance, such as bone fractures, osteoporosis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. All of the participants were fully informed of the aims of the study and gave their voluntary consent before participation. The measurement procedures were consistent with ethical human experimentation. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software. The results are reported as means and standard deviations. Differences between the two groups are reported as the mean difference ± 95% confidence intervals. Student’s t-test for independent samples was used to determine differences in the parameters between the two groups. The results revealed significant increases in dynamic balance, power, and program skills between the pre- and post-measures in the experimental group. In conclusion, a 10-week core strength program can improve physical skills and dynamic balance in child athletics.

A mixed model of analysis of variance was applied to evaluate the effects of an intrasubject factor and an intersubject factor on each of the dependent variables. After 8 weeks, the experimental group obtained significant better results in some variables of the right support leg with eyes open and left support leg with eyes open single-leg support (p < .01), improvements were also found in some specific RG balances: Arabesque measured on the force platform (p < .01) and the side leg with help balance scored by the judges (p < .01). In conclusion, an integrated functional CPT program improved postural control in young rhythmic gymnasts. Coaches should consider using this CPT to improve RG performance.
The effects of basic gymnastics training integrated with physical education courses on selected motor performance variables

Abstract:The purpose of this study is the determine the influence of gymnastics training integrated with physical education courses on selected motor performance variables in seven year old girls. Subjects were divided into two groups: 1, control group (N=15, X=7.56±0.46 year old); 2, gymnastics group (N=16, X=7.60±0.50 year old). The students in the control group followed the physical education curriculum for 10 weeks. The students in the gymnastics group took gymnastics training for 10 weeks in addition to physical education curriculum, and this training was given for two days (one hour each) at the university gym. Statistical analyses ( t test) showed that basic gymnastics training improves selected motor tests like standing long jump, trunk lift, sit and reach, balance, run 20 m, chin-up, curl-up, push-up (p<0.05). Nevertheless, physical education classes alone did not affect these motor performance variables (p>0.05), which were not expected. Abstract:Introduction: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a 10-week complex elastic band training (CEBT) program on athletic performance in junior female handball players. Methods: Participants (16.2 ± 0.5 years) were randomly assigned to an intervention group (IG; n = 16) or control group (CG; n = 14). The IG group performed CEBT twice a week during the 10-week intervention, which included eight 35-minute sessions, progressing in number of sets and band resistance for each specific exercise. The CG maintained regular in-season training. The modified T-test (T-half), squat jump (SJ), countermovement jump (CMJ), standing long jump (SLJ), repeated sprint ability (RSA), 1-RM bench press, 1-RM half squat, and force-velocity tests for both upper and lower limbs were as-sessed. Results: IG enhanced T-half [p < 0.001; d = 2.40 (large)]; jump [SJ (p = 0.001, d = 0.94 (large)), CMJ (p < 0.001, d = 1.34 (large), SLJ (p = 0.001, d = 0.91 (large))]; 3 of 4 RSA scores [p < 0.001, d = 1.59-1.70 (large)]; 1-RM bench press [p = 0.01, d = 0.68 (medium)] and 1-RM half squat [p = 0.02, d = 0.61 (medium)]; all force-velocity scores for the upper limbs [p ≤ 0.024, d = 0.60-2.30 (medium to large)]; and three of four force-velocity scores for the lower limb performance [p ≤ 0.001, d = 1.33-1.40 (large)] compared to the CG. Conclusions: CEBT performed twice a week, for 10 weeks, improves change of direction and jumping performance, RSA and muscular strength and power in junior handball athletes. There-fore, coaches and practitioners should consider utilizing CEBT as a time and resource-efficient means of improving youth handball players’ physical fitness.
Effects of Eight-Week Circuit Training with Core Exercises on Performance in Adult Male Soccer Players

Abstract:Core exercises have been widely promoted in the last 25 years. However, the scientific debate about its efficacy for improving individual and team sports performance is still open. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the effects of circuit training with a core exercise program on physical performance in competitive amateur soccer players. The training was conducted during the off-season period, two times per week for 8 weeks. Pre- and post-evaluations were conducted using the following tests: Y-Balance Test (YB), standing long jump (SLJ), medicine ball chest press (MBC), curl-up (CU), and Illinois Agility Test (IAT). A total of 19 adults were divided into an experimental group (EG, n = 11, age 22 years, weight 71.2 ± 4.8 kg, height 174 ± 5.8 cm) and a control group (CG, n = 8, age 22 years, weight 73.2 ± 4.1 Kg, height 176 ± 6.3 cm). The EG showed significant improvements in lower and upper body strength, core endurance and balance, whereas the CG did not report significant changes in the pre- and post-test comparison. Despite study limitations, our positive results show that circuit training with core exercises appears to be a good strategy for performance improvement in adult soccer players.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction Aerobic gymnastics is an emerging sport. It develops mainly the aerobic body metabolism improving the cardiopulmonary function of the practitioner. Objective To analyze the influence of core strength training on the physical fitness of university athletes who practice aerobic gymnastics. Methods Using mathematical statistics, we studied the influence of aerobic exercise on the physical fitness of female college athletes. The fitness index test of female college aerobics athletes was performed with Excel 2007, and the obtained results were discussed. Results College female students showed significant improvement in somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, anxiety, and other four factors after aerobic gymnastics exercise (P<0.05). After the practice period, female college students improved orthostatic performance, long jump, stretching in sitting forward position, 1 minute sitting, running four times round trip for 10 meters, and 800 meters. The increase was 11.16cm, 5.02cm, 8.34 times/min, 2.13s, and 9.42s. Conclusion Core training in aerobic gymnastics can strengthen the body, allowing awareness of physical training in college women. Abstract:The aim of the present study was to investigate effect of core strength training (CST) on core endurance, dynamic balance and agility in adolescent badminton players. Twenty adolescent (age = 10.8 ± 0.3 years; height = 140.6 ± 4.4 cm, weight = 33.9 ± 5.8 kg) badminton players were randomly divided into two groups as training group (TG) and control (CG) group. All subjects were evaluated with Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT), Illinois Agility Test, and the core endurance tests. The TG completed CST twice a week, for 6 weeks. There were significant increases in (p < 0.05) directions of SEBT and core endurance tests (p < 0.05). However, no significant change was observed for agility (p > 0.05). The CST resulted in significant gains in directions of the SEBT and core endurances in adolescent badminton players, but not in agility.

Abstract:Background and Study Aim. With its dynamic and constantly changing characteristics, basketball, which requires more than one movement, is one of the most preferred and popular team sports in the world. It is important to know that basketball requires programs based on speed, agility and strength fitness components, in which endurance and strength parameters are predominant. In this context, resistance training, which provides skill excellence and increased muscle strength, is important for basketball players. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of 4-week specific core training applied to pre-adolescent and adolescent children who do basic basketball training on explosive strength. Material and Methods. A total of 16 [Control Group (CG): n=8; Experimental Group (EG): n=8] individuals (age 13.29 ± 1.96 years) who did not have any health problems from basketball school and continued basketball basic training were included in the study. The groups continued their usual basketball basic training program (2 days a week, 60 minutes a day). However, in addition to the basic training program, the experimental group was subjected to an isometric training program for 12-minute core strengthening. Training programs were made for a total of 4 weeks. We examined the effects of core training on speed, vertical jump and agility parameters. Statistical analyzes of the data obtained as a result of the research were obtained using the IBM SPSS 23.0 package program. Results. There was no difference between the groups for sprint and vertical jump parameters of core and basic basketball training (p>0.05). However, there was a significant difference in favor of EG in the agility test analysis results (p<0.05). As a result, we can say that 4-week core training applied in addition to the basic basketball training program in children improves agility characteristics. Conclusions. The findings showed that core training programs have positive effects on explosive strength parameters. In addition, strengthening the core area significantly improved the agility parameter, which is important in ground-direction changes. This, in parallel with the studies, supported that core training programs should be an integral part of other training programs. This study also showed that core stabilization training applied in a short time improves explosive strength parameters in children.
Effects of Core Strength Training Using Stable and Unstable Surfaces on Physical Fitness and Functional Performance in Professional Female Futsal Players

Abstract:Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the effect of core strength training performed on a stable surface (CTS) compared with core strength training performed on an unstable surface (CTU) on physical fitness (jump performance, sprint, and repeated sprint ability (RSA)) and quality of movement (Fundamental Movement Screen) in professional female futsal players. Fourteen professional female futsal players (mean age: 23.7 ± 5.1 years, age range: 18-28 years) were randomly assigned to a CTS (n = 7) or a CTU (n = 7) group. The intervention program was carried out 3 times a week over 6 weeks. Players of both groups performed the same four core-strengthening exercises. The only difference between the two interventions was that the CTU group performed all exercises (i.e., shoulder bridge, side bridge, prone plank, and crunch) on an unstable surface (Togu® Dyn-Air). Within-group analysis showed significant improvements (p < 0.001) in 10 m sprint performance from the pre- to post-test in the CTS (+4.37%) and CTU (+5.00%) groups. Players in both the CTS (+10.39%) and CTU (+11.10%) group also showed significant enhancement in the Functional Movement Screen total score, from the pre-test to post-test. In addition, a significant time effect was also observed for the CTU group in the relative score of the RSA test decreasing from the pre- to post-test (-30.85%). In the between-groups analysis, there were no significant differences between the core strength training groups (CTS vs CTU) in any variable. To conclude, sprint and Functional Movement Screen performance improved following CTS and CTU when conducted in combination with regular futsal training. In addition, CTU had limited benefit in RSA compared to CTS.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction: The physical education curriculum aims to improve the level of students, benefiting the development of physical and mental health. Currently, the original physical education curriculum does not meet the specific requirements of today's students and needs to undergo a new stage of restructuring in its development. Objective: Analyze the impacts of gymnastics training on the physical fitness of female college students. Methods: We selected 86 female college students who chose the gymnastics elective course. The volunteers were divided into an experimental (n=43) and a control group (n=43). While the control performed basic training, the experimental group performed aerobics training according to an established protocol. The experiment, 60 minutes daily, was performed twice a week for 18 weeks. Data related to body composition and functional physical performance were collected before and after the intervention, and a comparative analysis was performed with statistical software. Results: The experimental group showed considerable gains; body fat ratio decreased from 27.99 to 26.25; vital capacity increased by 15.13%, and maximum strength performance in one minute increased by 15.02%. Conclusion: According to the results presented, gymnastics training significantly improved female college students’ physical fitness. Its constant exercise also has the potential to improve the muscle tone of the pelvic girdle and abdomen. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment results.

Abstract:Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of 8-week core strength training on the repetitive sprinting ability, anaerobic power, body mass and fatigue indexes of football players. Methods: 15 male football players who play football regularly participated in the study. A core strength training program was applied to the research group using BOSU (Theraband, USA) elastic band (Theraband, USA). Before and after the study, the participants were analyzed with Tanita BC418 and their Body Mass Indexes (BMI) were taken. The height of the participants was measured with a stadiometer with a sensitivity of 0.01 cm. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 22 package program. Paired T Test was used for pre-test and post-test comparison between the two groups as the data showed normal distribution. Results: A high level of significant difference was found in the RAST and BMI values of the participants before and after the training when the averages were compared (p<0.05). A high level of significant difference was found in the Maximal Power and Fatigue Index values of the study participants when the pre- and post-training averages were compared (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result, 8-week core exercises with Bosu and Tera tape improved the ability of repetitive sprinting, which is one of the important features of football players. As a result of the study, it can be said that the BMI level of the football players increases with the muscle mass developed as a result of core training.
