Abstract:Time-restricted feeding (TRF) is a lifestyle intervention that aims to maintain a consistent daily cycle of feeding and fasting to support robust circadian rhythms. Recently, it has gained scientific, medical, and public attention due to its potential to enhance body composition, extend lifespan, and improve overall health, as well as induce autophagy and alleviate symptoms of diseases like cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and ischemic injury. However, there is still considerable debate on the primary factors that contribute to the health benefits of TRF. Despite not imposing strict limitations on calorie intake, TRF consistently led to reductions in calorie intake. Therefore, while some studies suggest that the health benefits of TRF are primarily due to caloric restriction (CR), others argue that the key advantages of TRF arise not only from CR but also from factors like the duration of fasting, the timing of the feeding period, and alignment with circadian rhythms. To elucidate the roles and mechanisms of TRF beyond CR, this review incorporates TRF studies that did not use CR, as well as TRF studies with equivalent energy intake to CR, which addresses the previous lack of comprehensive research on TRF without CR and provides a framework for future research directions.
Caloric Restriction, Friend or Foe: Effects on Metabolic Status in Association with the Intestinal Microbiome and Metabolome

Abstract:Daily calorie restriction (CR) has shown benefits on weight loss and alleviation of metabolic disorders. We investigated the effects of three CR regimens, i.e., 20% (CR-20), 40% (CR-40), and 60% (CR-60) less than the average daily calorie intake, respectively, on the metabolic parameters, gut microbiome composition, and its related metabolites in healthy mice. Compared with mice fed ad libitum (AL), CR dose-dependently reduced the body weight, and weights of liver and epididymal adipose tissues, and enhanced the insulin sensitivity, glucose tolerance, and lipid homeostasis. Moreover, expression levels of intestinal tight junction proteins (i.e., ZO-1, claudin, and occludin) were significantly promoted by CR than those of AL mice, demonstrating the CR-induced improvement of the intestinal barrier integrity. CR contributed to the enrichment of beneficial microbiota (e.g., Lactobacillus, Bacteroides, and Akkermansia) and increased propionic acid levels. Notably, CR-60 deleteriously caused liver injury, and enhanced hepatic inflammatory cytokines (i.e., IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α) and lipopolysaccharides, which were accompanied by high levels of trimethylamine (TMA) and trimethylamine oxide (TMAO) in relation to CR-60-altered gut microbiota structure and fecal metabolome. Additionally, we found differential impacts of CR-20, -40, or -60 on amino acid absorption and metabolism. Our findings support the health-promoting benefits of 60-80% daily calorie intake on the metabolic status by regulating the gut microbiota in healthy mice. However, excessive CR caused liver injury and gut microbiota-dependent elevation of TMAO. The differential effects of CR regimens on the intestinal microbiome and fecal metabolome provide novel insights into the dietary pattern-gut microbiome interactions linked with host metabolism.
Ocular findings in Malaysian children with Down syndrome.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION Down syndrome was first described as Mongoloid children with European parentage. Although their facial features resemble Orientals or Asians, ocular findings have not been well-documented in Asians, especially Malaysians. Our aim was to identify the ocular findings of Malaysian children with Down syndrome. METHODS A total of 60 children with Down syndrome, aged between one month and 17 years, were examined for ocular findings from January 1995 to January 2004. Ocular examination, which includes visual acuity assessment, slit lamp biomicroscopy, ocular motility, cycloplegic refraction and ophthalmoscopy were performed whenever possible. RESULTS The ocular findings include epicanthic fold in 96.7 percent (58), nystagmus in 33.3 percent (20), and strabismus in 26.7 percent (16) of children with Down syndrome, all of whom were esotropic. Other findings were bilateral congenital cataract in 13.3 percent (8), blepharoconjunctivitis in 10.0 percent (6), eyelid abnormalities in 6.7 percent (4), glaucoma in 6.7 percent (4), nasolacrimal duct obstruction in 3.3 percent (2), bilateral retinoblastoma in 1.7 percent (1), bilateral retinal detachment in 1.7 percent (1), and chronic uveitis in 1.7 percent (1) of children. Visual assessment showed that 47.3 percent of patients achieved good vision (6/12 to 6/6). Cycloplegic refraction was done in 24 patients (41.7 percent). Out of the 24 patients, 29.2 percent (7) were myopic, 25.0 percent (6) were hyperopic, and astigmatism was observed in 8.3 percent (2). CONCLUSION Malaysian children with Down syndrome demonstrated high incidences of epicanthic fold, nystagmus, and strabismus, and absence of Brushfield spots or keratoconus, which are in contrast to the ocular findings in Caucasian patients with Down syndrome. Rare ocular findings, such as bilateral retinoblastoma and retinal detachment, were also observed but their association with Down syndrome is not well-established.

Abstract:Introduction: Maintaining metabolic balance relies on accumulating nutrients during feeding periods and their subsequent release during fasting. In obesity and metabolic disorders, strategies aimed at reducing food intake while simulating fasting have garnered significant attention for weight loss. Caloric restriction (CR) diets and intermittent fasting (IF) interventions have emerged as effective approaches to improving cardiometabolic health. Although the comparative metabolic benefits of CR versus IF remain inconclusive, this review focuses on various forms of IF, particularly time-restricted eating (TRE). Methods: This study employs a narrative review methodology, systematically collecting, synthesizing, and interpreting the existing literature on TRE and its metabolic effects. A comprehensive and unbiased search of relevant databases was conducted to identify pertinent studies, including pre-clinical animal studies and clinical trials in humans. Keywords such as "Obesity," "Intermittent Fasting," "Time-restricted eating," "Chronotype," and "Circadian rhythms" guided the search. The selected studies were critically appraised based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, allowing for a thorough exploration and synthesis of current knowledge. Results: This article synthesizes pre-clinical and clinical studies on TRE and its metabolic effects, providing a comprehensive overview of the current knowledge and identifying gaps for future research. It explores the metabolic outcomes of recent clinical trials employing different TRE protocols in individuals with overweight, obesity, or type II diabetes, emphasizing the significance of individual chronotype, which is often overlooked in practice. In contrast to human studies, animal models underscore the role of the circadian clock in mitigating metabolic disturbances induced by obesity through time-restricted feeding (TRF) interventions. Consequently, we examine pre-clinical evidence supporting the interplay between the circadian clock and TRF interventions. Additionally, we provide insights into the role of the microbiota, which TRE can modulate and its influence on circadian rhythms.
Effects of intermittent fasting on glucose and lipid metabolism

Abstract:Two intermittent fasting variants, intermittent energy restriction (IER) and time-restricted feeding (TRF), have received considerable interest as strategies for weight-management and/or improving metabolic health. With these strategies, the pattern of energy restriction and/or timing of food intake are altered so that individuals undergo frequently repeated periods of fasting. This review provides a commentary on the rodent and human literature, specifically focusing on the effects of IER and TRF on glucose and lipid metabolism. For IER, there is a growing evidence demonstrating its benefits on glucose and lipid homeostasis in the short-to-medium term; however, more long-term safety studies are required. Whilst the metabolic benefits of TRF appear quite profound in rodents, findings from the few human studies have been mixed. There is some suggestion that the metabolic changes elicited by these approaches can occur in the absence of energy restriction, and in the context of IER, may be distinct from those observed following similar weight-loss achieved via modest continuous energy restriction. Mechanistically, the frequently repeated prolonged fasting intervals may favour preferential reduction of ectopic fat, beneficially modulate aspects of adipose tissue physiology/morphology, and may also impinge on circadian clock regulation. However, mechanistic evidence is largely limited to findings from rodent studies, thus necessitating focused human studies, which also incorporate more dynamic assessments of glucose and lipid metabolism. Ultimately, much remains to be learned about intermittent fasting (in its various forms); however, the findings to date serve to highlight promising avenues for future research.

Abstract:Time-restricted eating (TRE), a dietary approach limiting the daily eating window, has attracted increasing attention in media and research. The eating behavior in our modern society is often characterized by prolonged and erratic daily eating patterns, which might be associated with increased risk of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. In contrast, recent evidence suggests that TRE might support weight loss, improve cardiometabolic health, and overall wellbeing, but the data are controversial. The present work reviews how TRE affects glucose and lipid metabolism based on clinical trials published until June 2021. A range of trials demonstrated that TRE intervention lowered fasting and postprandial glucose levels in response to a standard meal or oral glucose tolerance test, as well as mean 24-h glucose and glycemic excursions assessed using continuous glucose monitoring. In addition, fasting insulin decreases and improvement of insulin sensitivity were demonstrated. These changes were often accompanied by the decrease of blood triglyceride and cholesterol levels. However, a number of studies found that TRE had either adverse or no effects on glycemic and lipid traits, which might be explained by the different study designs (i.e., fasting/eating duration, daytime of eating, changes of calorie intake, duration of intervention) and study subject cohorts (metabolic status, age, gender, chronotype, etc.). To summarize, TRE represents an attractive and easy-to-adapt dietary strategy for the prevention and therapy of glucose and lipid metabolic disturbances. However, carefully controlled future TRE studies are needed to confirm these effects to understand the underlying mechanisms and assess the applicability of personalized interventions.

Abstract:Chrono-nutrition (meal timing) aligns food consumption with one's circadian rhythm. The first meal (e.g., breakfast) likely promotes synchronization of peripheral circadian clocks, thereby supporting metabolic health. Time-restricted feeding (TRF) has been shown to reduce body weight (BW) and/or improve cardiovascular biomarkers. In this explorative literature assessment, 13 TRF randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were selected from PubMed and Scopus to evaluate the effects of early (eTRF: first meal before 10:30 a.m.) and late TRF (lTRF: first meal after 11:30 a.m.) on parameters of metabolic health. Although distinct variations in study design were evident between reports, TRF consistently decreased energy intake (EI) and BW, and improved insulin resistance as well as systolic blood pressure. eTRF seemed to have a greater beneficial effect than lTRF on insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Importantly, most studies did not appear to consider chronotype in their evaluation, which may have underestimated TRF effects. TRF intervention may be a promising approach for risk reduction of human metabolic diseases. To conclusively determine benefits of TRF and identify clear differences between eTRF and lTRF, future studies should be longer-term (≥8 weeks) with well-defined (differences in) feeding windows, include participants chronotypically matching the intervention, and compare outcomes to those of control groups without any dietary limitations.

Abstract:Background: Time-restricted feeding, also known as intermittent fasting, can confer various beneficial effects, especially protecting against obesity, and related metabolic disorders, but little is known about the underlying mechanisms. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate the effects of time-restricted feeding on the circadian rhythm of gut microbiota and hepatic metabolism. Methods: Eight-week-old male Kunming mice received either a normal diet ad libitum , a high-fat diet ad libitum , or a high-fat diet restricted to an 8-h temporal window per day for an experimental period of 8 weeks. Weight gain and calorie intake were measured weekly. Serum metabolites, hepatic sections and lipid metabolites, gut microbiota, and the hepatic expression of Per1, Cry1, Bmal1 , SIRT1, SREBP, and PPARα were measured at the end of the experimental period. The composition of gut microbiota and the expression of hepatic genes were compared between four timepoints. Results: Mice that received a time-restricted high-fat diet had less weight gain, milder liver steatosis, and lower hepatic levels of triglycerides than mice that received a high-fat diet ad libitum ( p < 0.05). The numbers of Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes differed between mice that received a time-restricted high-fat diet and mice that received a high-fat diet ad libitum ( p < 0.05). Mice fed a time-restricted high-fat diet showed distinct circadian rhythms of hepatic expression of SIRT1, SREBP, and PPARα compared with mice fed a normal diet ad libitum , as well as the circadian rhythm of the abundance of Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes . Conclusions: Time-restricted feeding is associated with better metabolic conditions, perhaps owing to alterations in gut microbiota and the circadian pattern of molecules related to hepatic lipid metabolism, which were first to report.

Abstract:Thoracic paravertebral block for postoperative pain control has been introduced more than a century ago. It is currently gaining increasing popularity. This simple and safe technique can be used for postoperative analgesia, as well as sole anesthetic technique. When compared to epidural analgesia for postthoracotomy pain control, thoracic paravertebral analgesia provides comparable analgesic efficacy, but less side-effects. Regarding concomitant use of anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs, paravertebral blockade is considered a central nerve block.

Abstract:Time-restricted eating (TRE) is a dietary intervention that limits food consumption to a specific time window each day. The effect of TRE on body weight and physiological functions has been extensively studied in rodent models, which have shown considerable therapeutic effects of TRE and important interactions among time of eating, circadian biology and metabolic homeostasis. In contrast, it is difficult to make firm conclusions regarding the effect of TRE in people because of the heterogeneity in results, TRE regimens, and study populations. In this review, we: i) provide a background of the history of meal consumption in people and the normal physiology of eating and fasting; ii) discuss the interaction between circadian molecular metabolism and TRE; iii) integrate the results of preclinical and clinical studies that evaluated the effects of TRE on body weight and physiological functions; iv) summarize other time-related dietary interventions that have been studied in people; and v) identify current gaps in knowledge and provide a framework for future research directions.

Abstract:Angiology, Ahead of Print. This meta-analysis investigated the effect of time-restricted eating (TRE) as an economical lifestyle intervention for the prevention of metabolic syndrome and improving the related metabolic variables. The Cochrane library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, clinical trials, and other databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We included 22 RCTs (1004 participants, aged 18–75 years, including healthy subjects, prediabetes and overweight patients) designed to evaluate the effect of TRE on metabolic parameters. Body mass index (BMI) (-0.56 kg/m2, 95% CI: -1.00, -0.13, P < .01), fasting blood glucose (-1.74 mmol/L, 95% CI: -3.34, -0.14, P < .01), and body weight (-0.48 kg, 95% CI: -0.74, -0.22, P < .01) in the TRE intervention group were decreased to varying degrees compared with controls. In contrast, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels were significantly increased in the TRE group compared with the control group (P < .01). The change in waist circumference, blood pressure, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and total cholesterol did not vary markedly across the groups. In conclusion, this meta-analysis found a significant reduction in BMI, weight, and fasting glucose, as well as a rise in HDL-C level with TRE compared with control. TRE could be used as an adjuvant treatment for metabolic dysfunctions.

Abstract:Objective A growing body of evidence has supported the health benefits of extended daily fasting, known as time‐restricted eating (TRE); however, whether the addition of TRE enhances the known benefits of calorie restriction (CR) remains unclear. Methods PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar were searched through April 2023. This systematic review includes randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared CR + TRE with CR alone in energy‐matched conditions of at least 8 weeks in duration that assessed changes in body weight and cardiometabolic disease risk factors in adults with overweight and/or obesity. Results Seven studies were identified (n = 579). Two studies reported greater weight loss and reductions in diastolic blood pressure with CR + TRE compared with CR alone after 8 to 14 weeks, whereas one study reported greater improvements in triglycerides and glucose tolerance with CR + TRE (3 d/wk) compared with CR alone following 26 weeks. One study reported significant increases in Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA‐IR) levels with CR + TRE versus CR alone after 8 weeks. There were no statistically significant differences in any other outcome variable between the two interventions. Conclusions The addition of TRE to CR regimens resulted in greater weight loss and improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors in some studies; however, the majority of studies did not find additional benefits.

Abstract:Time-restricted eating (TRE) is an effective way to lose weight and improve metabolic health in animals. Yet whether and how these benefits apply to humans is unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the effect of TRE in people with overweight and obesity statuses. The results showed that TRE led to modest weight loss, lower waist circumference and energy deficits. TRE also improved body mass index, fat mass, lean body mass, systolic blood pressure, fasting glucose levels, fasting insulin levels, and HbA1c%. Subgroup analysis demonstrated more health improvements in the TRE group than the control group under the <i>ad libitum</i> intake condition than in the energy-prescribed condition. Eating time-of-day advantages were only seen when there was considerable energy reduction in the TRE group than the control group (<i>ad libitum</i> condition), implying that the benefits of TRE were primarily due to energy deficit, followed by alignment with eating time of day.

Abstract:Time-restricted feeding (TRF) is a form of intermittent fasting that involves having a longer daily fasting period. Preliminary studies report that TRF improves cardiometabolic health in rodents and humans. Here, we performed the first study to determine how TRF affects gene expression, circulating hormones, and diurnal patterns in cardiometabolic risk factors in humans. Eleven overweight adults participated in a 4-day randomized crossover study where they ate between 8 am and 2 pm (early TRF (eTRF)) and between 8 am and 8 pm (control schedule). Participants underwent continuous glucose monitoring, and blood was drawn to assess cardiometabolic risk factors, hormones, and gene expression in whole blood cells. Relative to the control schedule, eTRF decreased mean 24-hour glucose levels by 4 ± 1 mg/dl (p = 0.0003) and glycemic excursions by 12 ± 3 mg/dl (p = 0.001). In the morning before breakfast, eTRF increased ketones, cholesterol, and the expression of the stress response and aging gene SIRT1 and the autophagy gene LC3A (all p < 0.04), while in the evening, it tended to increase brain-derived neurotropic factor (BNDF; p = 0.10) and also increased the expression of MTOR (p = 0.007), a major nutrient-sensing protein that regulates cell growth. eTRF also altered the diurnal patterns in cortisol and the expression of several circadian clock genes (p < 0.05). eTRF improves 24-hour glucose levels, alters lipid metabolism and circadian clock gene expression, and may also increase autophagy and have anti-aging effects in humans.

Abstract:Background: Dyslipidemia increases cardiovascular disease risk, the leading cause of death worldwide. Under time-restricted feeding (TRF), wherein food intake is restricted to a consistent window of <12 hours, weight gain, glucose intolerance, inflammation, dyslipidemia, and hypercholesterolemia are all reduced in mice fed an obesogenic diet. LDLR (low-density lipoprotein receptor) mutations are a major cause of familial hypercholesterolemia and early-onset cardiovascular disease. Methods: We subjected benchmark preclinical models, mice lacking LDLR-knockout or ApoE knockout to ad libitum feeding of an isocaloric atherogenic diet either ad libitum or 9 hours TRF for up to 13 weeks and assessed disease development, mechanism, and global changes in hepatic gene expression and plasma lipids. In a regression model, a subset of LDLR-knockout mice were ad libitum fed and then subject to TRF. Results: TRF could significantly attenuate weight gain, hypercholesterolemia, and atherosclerosis in mice lacking the LDLR-knockout mice under experimental conditions of both prevention and regression. In LDLR-knockout mice, increased hepatic expression of genes mediating β-oxidation during fasting is associated with reduced VLDL (very-low-density lipoprotein) secretion and lipid accumulation. Additionally, increased sterol catabolism coupled with fecal loss of cholesterol and bile acids contributes to the atheroprotective effect of TRF. Finally, TRF alone or combined with a cholesterol-free diet can reduce atherosclerosis in LDLR-knockout mice. However, mice lacking ApoE, which is an important protein for hepatic lipoprotein reuptake do not respond to TRF. Conclusions: In a preclinical animal model, TRF is effective in both the prevention and regression of atherosclerosis in LDLR knockout mice. The results suggest TRF alone or in combination with a low-cholesterol diet can be a lifestyle intervention for reducing cardiovascular disease risk in humans.
The Effect of Time-Restricted Eating on Cardiometabolic Risk Factors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Background/Objectives: Endogenous metabolic pathways periodically adjust with fluctuations in day and night, a biological process known as circadian rhythm. Time-restricted eating (TRE) aligns the time of food intake with the circadian rhythm. This study aims to investigate the effects of TRE on body weight, body composition and cardiometabolic risk factors. Methods: We reviewed articles from PubMed and Cochrane libraries for clinical trials that compare TRE with regular diet without calorie restriction. We conducted a meta-analysis of 26 studies. Results: Participants who followed TRE demonstrated reduction in body weight [mean-MD: −1.622 kg, (95% confidence interval (CI −2.302 to −0.941)], body mass index (BMI) [MD: −0.919 kg/m2 (95% CI: −1.189 to −0.650)], waist circumference [MD: −2.015 cm (95% CI: −3.212 to −0.819] and whole-body fat mass (WBFM) [MD: −0.662 kg (95% CI: −0.795 to −0.530)]. Improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors such as a decrease in insulin concentrations [MD: −0.458 mIU/L, (95% CI: −0.843 to −0.073)], total cholesterol [MD: −2.889 mg/dL (95% CI: −5.447 to −0.330) and LDL concentrations [MD: −2.717 mg/dL (95% CI: −4.412 to −1.021)] were observed. Conclusions: TRE is beneficial for weight loss and improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors. Further large-scale clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract:Time-restricted eating (TRE) is a promising obesity management strategy, but weight-loss efficacy varies among participants, and the underlying mechanism is unclear. The study aimed to investigate the role of gut microbiota in weight-loss response during long-term TRE intervention. We analyzed data from 51 obese adults in a 12-month TRE program, categorizing them into distinct weight loss groups (DG) and moderate weight loss groups (MG) based on their TRE responses. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing analysis revealed a significant increase in species closely associated with weight loss effectiveness and metabolic parameter changes in the DG group. Pathways related to fatty acid biosynthesis, glycogen biosynthesis, and nucleotide metabolism were reduced in the DG group and enhanced in the MG group. Next, we identified nine specific species at baseline that contributed better responses to TRE intervention and significant weight loss. Collectively, gut microbiota contributes to responsiveness heterogeneity in TRE and can predict weight-loss effectiveness.

Abstract:Metabolic syndrome (MetS) occurs in ~30% of adults and is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. MetS reflects the clustering of individual cardiometabolic risk factors including central obesity, elevated fasting plasma glucose, dyslipidemia, and elevated blood pressure. Erratic eating patterns such as eating over a prolonged period per day and irregular meal timing are common in patients with MetS. Misalignment between daily rhythms of food intake and circadian timing system can contribute to circadian rhythm disruption which results in abnormal metabolic regulation and adversely impacts cardiometabolic health. Novel approaches which aim at restoring robust circadian rhythms through modification of timing and duration of daily eating represent a promising strategy for patients with MetS. Restricting eating period during a day (time-restricted eating, TRE) can aid in mitigating circadian disruption and improving cardiometabolic outcomes. Previous pilot TRE study of patients with MetS showed the feasibility of TRE and improvements in body weight and fat, abdominal obesity, atherogenic lipids, and blood pressure, which were observed despite no overt attempt to change diet quantity and quality or physical activity. The present article aims at giving an overview of TRE human studies of individuals with MetS or its components, summarizing current clinical evidence for improving cardiometabolic health through TRE intervention in these populations, and presenting future perspectives for an implementation of TRE to treat and prevent MetS. Previous TRE trials laid the groundwork and indicate a need for further clinical research including large-scale controlled trials to determine TRE efficacy for reducing long-term cardiometabolic risk, providing tools for sustained lifestyle changes and, ultimately, improving overall health in individuals with MetS.

Abstract:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as a global health concern, lacking specific therapeutic strategies. Time-restricted feeding (TRF) regimen demonstrated beneficial effects in NAFLD; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we established a NAFLD mouse model through a high-fat diet (HFD) and implemented the 16:8 TRF regimen for a duration of 6 weeks. We demonstrated that TRF remarkably alleviated hepatic steatosis in HFD mice. Of note, aldehyde oxidase 1 (AOX1), a key enzyme in hepatic nicotinamide (NAM) catabolism, exhibited apparent upregulation in response to HFD, leading to abnormal accumulation of N-Methyl-6-pyridone-3-carboxamide (N-Me-6-PY, also known as 2PY) and N-Methyl-4-pyridone-5-carboxamide (N-Me-4-PY, also known as 4PY), whereas it was almost restored by TRF. Both N-Me-6-PY and N-Me-4-PY promoted de novo lipogenesis and fatty acid uptake capacities in hepatocyte, and aggravated hepatic steatosis in mice either fed chow diet or HFD. In contrast, pharmacological inhibition of AOX1 was sufficient to ameliorate the hepatic steatosis and lipid metabolic dysregulation induced by HFD. Moreover, transplantation of fecal microbiota efficiently mimicked the modulatory effect of TRF on NAM metabolism, thus mitigating hepatic steatosis and lipid metabolic disturbance, suggesting a gut microbiota-dependent manner. In conclusion, our study reveals the intricate relationship between host NAM metabolic modification and gut microbiota remodeling during the amelioration of NAFLD by TRF, providing promising insights into the prevention and treatment of NAFLD.
