Abstract:Purpose Monocyte distribution width (MDW) has been suggested as an early biomarker of sepsis, but few studies have compared MDW with conventional biomarkers, including C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin (PCT). This study evaluated MDW as a biomarker for sepsis and compared it with CRP and PCT. Materials and methods Patients aged 18–80 years who visited the emergency department were screened and prospectively enrolled in a tertiary medical center. Complete blood count, MDW, CRP, and PCT were examined. Diagnostic performance for sepsis was tested using the area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, sensitivity, and specificity. Results In total, 665 patients were screened, and 549 patients with valid laboratory test results were included in the analysis. The patients were categorized into three groups according to the Sepsis-3 criteria: non-infection, infection, and sepsis. MDW showed the highest value in the sepsis group (median [interquartile range], 24.0 [20.8–27.8]). The AUC values for MDW, CRP, PCT, and white blood cells for predicting sepsis were 0.71 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.67–0.75), 0.75 (95% CI, 0.71–0.78], 0.76 (95% CI, 0.72–0.79, and 0.61 (95% CI, 0.57–0.65), respectively. With the optimal cutoff value of the cohort, the sensitivity was 83.0% for MDW (cutoff, 19.8), 69.7% for CRP (cutoff, 4.0), and 76.6% for PCT (cutoff, 0.05). The combination of quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) with MDW improved the AUC (0.76; 95% CI, 0.72–0.80) to a greater extent than qSOFA alone (0.67; 95% CI, 0.62–0.72). Conclusions MDW reflected a diagnostic performance comparable to that of conventional diagnostic markers, implying that MDW is an alternative biomarker. The combination of MDW and qSOFA improves the diagnostic performance for early sepsis.

Abstract:Severe sepsis and septic shock are the leading cause of in-hospital death. As sepsis progresses, expression and activity of endogenous mediators of inflammation change. Early detection of biomarkers can play a role in sepsis screening and in improvement of patient outcomes. Recent studies suggest that increase in monocyte volume may be helpful in early detection of sepsis. Therefore, we evaluated the utility of monocyte distribution width (MDW) for the early assessment of sepsis compared with the blood culture and other inflammatory biomarkers. Medical records of 1,404 patients (aged ≥19 years) who were admitted to the emergency department owing to clinically suspected infectious disease and requested blood cultures from Oct 2019 to Jan 2021 were reviewed. The patients were grouped based on Sepsis-3 criteria. They had undergone other laboratory tests to evaluate their clinical status. MDW was analyzed using DxH900 hematology analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Brea, California, USA). To determine the diagnostic performance of MDW, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) for sepsis, the area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristics curves and their sensitivity and specificity were measured. Among 1,404 patients, 520 patients were designated the sepsis group based on Sepsis-3 criteria. In the sepsis group, MDW value was 24.1 (median, IQR 21.6–28.1); AUC values for MDW, CRP, and PCT were 0.67 (95% CI, 0.64–0.69), 0.66 (95% CI, 0.63–0.68), and 0.75 (95% CI, 0.72–0.77), respectively. For diagnosis of the sepsis, the cut-off value of MDW was 21.7 (sensitivity 74% and specificity 54%). Measured values of MDW were higher for the blood culture positive group than that of the blood culture contamination group (P<0.001, 95% CI, -5.9 to -3.0) or blood culture negative group (P<0.001, 95% CI = -5.8 to -4.2). MDW is a new hematological parameter that is simultaneously calculated during complete blood cell counting by Beckman Coulter hematology analyzer. MDW is expected to serve as a useful indicator for early screening of sepsis in conjunction with CRP and PCT. MDW is especially useful for sepsis assessment in patients with a suspected infection. MDW can also assist in discriminating false positive blood cultures.

Efficacy of Monocyte Distribution Width in the Early Diagnosis of Sepsis: A Diagnostic Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Abstract Background: Delayed diagnosis of sepsis urgently requires a fast, convenient, and inexpensive method to improve the early diagnosis of sepsis. Increasing evidence showed that monocyte distribution width (MDW) could be used as a non-invasive biomarker with high sensitivity and specificity for the early diagnosis of sepsis. However, the accuracy and reliability of its diagnosis are still controversial in different studies. Method: A meta-analysis of all available studies regarding the association between MDW and the diagnosis of sepsis was performed to systematically evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of MDW in the prediction of sepsis. Results: The estimated results of all eight studies are as follows: sensitivity, 0.84 (95% CI 0.77, 0.90); specificity, 0.68 (95% CI 0.54, 0.80); PLR, 2.7 (95% CI 1.8, 4.1); NLR, 0.23 (95% CI 0.15, 0.35); DOR is 12 (95% CI 5, 25). The corresponding overall area under the curve is 0.85 (95% CI 0.82, 0.88). Conclusion: In conclusion, this meta-analysis demonstrates that MDW has high accuracy in distinguishing patients with sepsis from healthy controls for early diagnosis of sepsis. However, large-scale prospective studies and joint diagnosis with other indicators are urgently required to confirm our findings and their utilization for routine clinical diagnosis in the future.

Abstract:Background and Objectives: This is the first study to examine the role of monocyte distribution width (MDW) in predicting sepsis after cardiovascular surgery. Methods: This study included 43 consecutive patients who had undergone cardiovascular surgery between July 2021 and July 2022. All patients were examined at the following three time points (TPs): preoperative period (TP1), postoperative at 24 h (TP2), and discharge (TP3). SOFA score, leukocyte count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), MDW, C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) levels were tested at each TPs. The Sepsis-3 criteria were used to diagnose patients with sepsis. Results: The mean values of all variables (leukocyte count, NLR, MDW, CRP, and PCT levels) were significantly higher at TP2 and TP3 than at TP1 (p < 0.05). All these values were significantly higher at TP2 than at TP3 (p < 0.05). Patients with sepsis had significantly higher mean values for leukocyte count, NLR, MDW, CRP, and PCT levels than those without sepsis (p < 0.05). There was a significant correlation between MDW and inflammatory markers (CRP, PCT, and NLR) during the three time periods (p < 0.05). According to the ROC analysis, the optimal MDW cutoff value with the highest sensitivity and specificity for predicting sepsis in the postoperative period was 20.5. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that elevated MDW levels may be a valuable predictor of sepsis in patients following cardiovascular surgery.

Abstract:Abstract Background Since sepsis has a high mortality rate, early diagnosis and treatment can increase the survival rate and improve prognosis. However, it is difficult to diagnose sepsis accurately in actual clinical practice. Determination of Procalcitonin or C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, which are conventionally used for diagnosing sepsis, are time-consuming. Recent studies have shown that monocyte distribution width (MDW), which is observed simultaneously during the complete blood count (CBC)/diff test in Beckman Coulter DxH900, is a potential marker for the early detection of patients with or developing sepsis. This study evaluated MDW for early detection of sepsis in patients visiting the emergency department. Methods This study enrolled a total of 1167 patients (>18 and ≤80 years of age) who visited the emergency department of a single institution from August 4, 2020 to March 31, 2021, whose initial evaluation included CBC with differential tests and other blood tests (CRP and Procalcitonin). Samples for CBC and MDW were collected in K3-EDTA tubes and analyzed in a UniCel DxH 900 analyzer (Beckman Coulter, Inc., USA). Sepsis was diagnosed according to the sepsis-3 definition through a medical record review. All patients were grouped into no sepsis, sepsis, and septic shock. The diagnostic performance of MDW and other biomarkers for the detection of sepsis was evaluated through statistical analysis. The subgroup analysis for diagnostic performance was performed in subjects with malignancy or without malignancy. All statistical analyses were carried out using Analyze-it, and P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Of the 1167 patients enrolled, 156 patients (13.4%) were diagnosed with sepsis (135 (11.6%) sepsis and 21 (1.8%) septic shock). Among sepsis patients, those with positive culture results were 46.8%, and the rest either had negative culture results (43.6%) or did not proceed with culture testing (9.6%). The MDWs of the no sepsis group, sepsis group, and septic shock group were 19.70, 27.20, and 31.10, respectively, CRPs were 1.82 mg/dL, 8.84 mg/dL, and 20.44 mg/dL, and Procalcitonins were 0.19 ng/mL, 1.72 ng/mL, and 18.20 ng/mL (median, P < 0.0001). All biomarkers showed a higher value in the sepsis group compared to the no sepsis group. Median MDW showed an increasing trend in patients with malignancy and without malignancy. The AUC of MDW, WBC, CRP, and Procalcitonin for the prediction of sepsis were 0.869, 0.604, 0.773, and 0.868, respectively (P < 0.0001), thus MDW and Procalcitonin showed similar diagnostic performance. At the cutoff of MDW (21.5), the sensitivity was 91.0% and the negative predictive value (NPV) was 98%. The diagnostic performance of MDW showed similar results in cancer patients and cancer-negative patients (AUC 0.873 vs 0.869). Conclusions MDW, which is automatically measured in Beckman Coulter DxH900 hematology analyzer without the requirement of additional reagents during CBC/diff test, has high accuracy in detecting patients with sepsis and could be a reliable tool for early detection of patients with sepsis in the emergency department compared to results of culture or other biomarkers which take longer time to get the result. Furthermore, high NPV may help clinicians rule out sepsis.

Abstract:BackgroundSepsis is the main cause of death in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and early diagnosis of sepsis in AIDS remains a significant challenge. Monocyte distribution width (MDW), as a new type of sepsis auxiliary diagnostic marker, has attracted widespread attention in the research and exploration of its clinical application. This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of MDW in the occurrence of sepsis in HIV-infected patients and to construct a new clinical diagnostic model in combination MDW with other indicators.MethodsA prospective cohort study was conducted at Shanghai Public Health Center with a total of 602 patients enrolled between December 2022 and August 2023. Sepsis-3 criteria were employed as the diagnostic standard for sepsis. MDW was measured at admission, using the hematology analyzer DxH900 (Beckman Coulter Inc.). Comprehensive clinical data, including complete blood counts and biochemical profiles, were collected. Enrolled participants received a follow-up about their survivals on day 30 and day 90. Five machine learning models were evaluated and compared to select the best performing model.ResultsThe diagnostic performance of MDW for sepsis yielded an AUC of 0.818. With a cut-off value of 25.26, the sensitivity and specificity reached 0.822 and 0.754 respectively. The best performing variable among all five ML algorithms was Random Forest model. The top three variables with the highest importance ranking were platelet, albumin, and hemoglobin. Incorporating MDW and the top three laboratory indicators into a random forest model, the AUC value improved to 0.931. With a cut-off value of 0.5, the sensitivity was 1.00 while the specificity was 0.732.ConclusionsMDW was an auxiliary diagnostic biomarker for sepsis in HIV-infected patients with reliable sensitivity and specificity. In combination MDW with other common laboratory biomarkers, a diagnostic model can be established to further improve the diagnostic efficiency of sepsis.

The United States' Food and Drug Administration and Conformite Europeenne have both been cleared for their clinical application in the detection of sepsis and developing sepsis in adult patients in the emergency department (ED). Recently, MDW has been found to have an early diagnosis and predictive value for sepsis in neonates and COVID-19 patients. Here, we summarize the findings of the studies investigating the clinical application of MDW in sepsis. Under different stimuli, especially in infectious diseases, the activation of innate immunity is the host's first defense mechanism, and the change in monocyte volume is considered an early indicator reflecting the state of activation of innate immunity. Pivotal study data from a large multicenter patient cohort showed that abnormal MDW at presentation increases the odds of sepsis, considering the combination of MDW and White Blood Cell Count (WBC) as part of a standard sepsis assessment protocol for ED, which may increase the sensitivity and specificity of sepsis diagnosis. Meanwhile, MDW shares a diagnostic performance comparable to that of conventional biomarkers (C-reactive protein and procalcitonin) in sepsis. In addition, some evidence suggests that increased MDW, both in adults and neonates, may be associated with unfavorable short- and long-term outcomes, which indicates its prognostic value in sepsis. Taken together, MDW is a parameter of increased morphological variability of monocytes in response to infection, and numerous studies have shown that MDW could be used as a valuable diagnostic and prognostic index in patients with sepsis or suspected sepsis. Sepsis is a global public health problem that generates more than 3,000,000 hospitalizations per year. Despite advances in modern medicine, more than 5.3 million people die annually from sepsis. Abstract:We carried out a prospective observational study to evaluate whether Monocyte Distribution Width (MDW) may play a role in identifying patients with sepsis in comparison with Procalcitonin (PCT). We prospectively enrolled all consecutive patients hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases Unit of Pescara General Hospital for bacterial infection or sepsis. MDW values were collected for all patients. Clinical characteristics, demographic data, past and present medical history, microbiological results, PCT, as well as neutrophil and monocytes indices at entry were compared in the 2 groups. Two-hundred-sixty patients were enrolled, 63.5% males, aged 59.1±19.5 years. Sepsis was diagnosed in 105 (40.4%); in 60 (57.1%) at least 1 microorganism was isolated from blood cultures. In multivariate models, MDW as a continuous variable (OR:1.57 for each unit increase; 95%CI: 1.31–1.87, p<0.001) and PCT˃1 ng/mL (OR: 48.5; 95%CI: 14.7–160.1, p<0.001) were independently associated with sepsis. Statistical best cut points associated with sepsis were 22.0 for MDW and 1.0 ng/mL for PCT whereas MDW values<20 were invariably associated with negative blood cultures. At ROC curve analysis, the AUC of MDW (0.87) was nearly overlapping that of PCT (0.88). Our data suggest that incorporating MDW within current routine WBC counts and indices may be of remarkable use for detection of sepsis. Further research is warranted.

Abstract:Objectives Monocyte distribution width (MDW) can be used for the early recognition of sepsis. The study compared the diagnostic accuracy of the MDW with two well-known sepsis biomarkers, procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Materials and Methods A study was conducted from July 2021 to October 2021, on 111 patients admitted to the Indus Hospital and Health Network. Patients from the ages of 1 to 90 years were enrolled if hospitalized for more than 24 hours for suspected sepsis to avoid inclusion of patients who had short-term stay in the emergency department. According to the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score, the clinical team did the characterization of cases as with sepsis or without sepsis. SPSS version 24 was used, and the diagnostic accuracy of MDW was assessed and compared using the area under the curves (AUCs) acquired from receiver operating characteristic curves. Pearson's chi-square/Fisher's exact test (as per need) was applied to determine the association. A p -value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results Among 111 patients, 81 (73%) patients were labeled with sepsis and 30 (27%) were without sepsis. We have reported significantly higher MDW, PCT, and CRP levels in septic patients ( p < 0.001). The AUC of MDW was comparable with PCT (0.794). Significant cutoff value for the MDW was greater than 20.24 U with 86% sensitivity and 73% specificity. Conclusion MDW may have a predictive ability similar to PCT and CRP in terms of sepsis and, thus, can be used as a standard parameter for the timely diagnosis of sepsis. Procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) are increasingly being utilized to aid in the early identification of septic patients. Recently, monocyte distribution width (MDW), a measure of the range in size of monocytes in the blood, has shown promise as an additional sepsis biomarker; levels > 20 have been correlated with an increased risk of sepsis. This investigation sought to determine the diagnostic accuracy of MDW as a marker of sepsis, and compare the accuracy to that of PCT, CRP, and ESR. Methods This is a retrospective chart review of adult ED patients from 4/1/2022 to 7/31/2022 in whom an MDW was resulted. During this time, MDW was included as part of all CBC reports. We collected PCT, CRP, and ESR results if obtained within 48 hours of the MDW. Sepsis diagnoses were based on a primary ICD-10 diagnosis of sepsis (A40-A41) at ED or hospital discharge. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated for MDW in all patients, MDW only in patients with PCT also ordered (regardless of PCT result), PCT, CRP+ESR, and MDW+PCT for the sake of comparison. MDW was considered “positive” for sepsis if > 20. Results There were 10,654 patient encounters with MDW reported. The mean age was 51 years old, and 55% of patients were female. Of the 10,654 encounters, 269 (2.5%) had a sepsis diagnosis on discharge. Diagnostic test results for MDW, PCT, and ESR and CRP are displayed in Table 1. Among all ED patients with a CBC, MDW had a sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV of 82%, 69%, 6.7% and 99%, respectively. In 847 patients where infection was being considered (based on the independent ordering of PCT), MDW sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV were 85%, 53%, 29% and 94%, respectively. MDW was more sensitive but less specific than PCT. In cases of both positive MDW and PCT, the PPV for sepsis was 43%. Conclusion These findings suggest that, as a marker for sepsis, MDW has comparable test characteristics to ESR and CRP, with higher sensitivity but lower specificity than PCT. Abstract:The Precessions process polishes complex surfaces from the ground state preserving the ground-in form, and subsequently rectifies measured form errors. Our first paper introduced the technology and focused on the novel tooling. In this paper we describe the unique CNC machine tools and how they operate in polishing and correcting form. Experimental results demonstrate both the '2D' and '2(1/2)D' form-correction modes, as applied to aspheres with rotationally-symmetric target-form.

Abstract:Background and Objectives: Early detection of neonatal sepsis is critical because it is potentially fatal. Therefore, sepsis biomarkers of sufficient sensitivity and specificity are needed. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of peripheral blood parameters as neonatal sepsis biomarkers and the diagnostic performance of the monocyte distribution width (MDW) in sepsis in a neonatal intensive care unit. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2019 to August 2020 at the King Saud University Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Samples were collected and organised as follows: 77 study cases were subdivided into two subgroups (other health complication (49) and sepsis (28)), and there were 70 controls. The causative microorganisms of neonatal sepsis were isolated. Peripheral blood samples were collected from each neonate in an ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tube for a complete blood count and a leukocyte differential count. Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to measure the diagnostic performance of the MDW. Results: The haematological parameters and neonatal sepsis cases had a considerable correlation. The MDW was the most significant haematological parameter. The ROC analysis of the MDW demonstrated that the area under the curve was 0.89 (95% confidence interval: 0.867 to 0.998) with a sensitivity of 89.3%, a specificity of 88.2%, and a negative predictive value of 97.2% at the cut-off point of 23. Conclusions: The use of haematological parameters is feasible and can be performed rapidly. Neonatal sepsis showed a strong correlation with leukopenia, anaemia, thrombocytopenia, and an elevated MDW value. Moreover, the ROC curve analysis confirmed the high diagnostic ability of the MDW in neonatal sepsis prediction.

Abstract:Monocyte distribution width (MDW) is a new biomarker used as an early indicator of sepsis (ESId). It is often aids in the identification of patients who may develop sepsis. This study aims to establish the MDW reference interval (RI) within the healthy population of blood donors using EDTA-K 2 as anticoagulant. Many hospitals use this biomarker as a means of identifying patients who present to the hospital with sepsis. A total of 274 samples obtained from healthy donors were analyzed. MDW measurements were taken within 2 h post-extraction. The RI was estimated using various statistical methodologies, including the recommended CLSI EP28-A3c guideline, non-parametric and robust methods, along with the Harrell-Davis bootstrap method applied to the entire sample. The RI estimated through non-parametric method was 14.77 CI90 % (14.36–14.97)–21.13 CI90 % (20.89–21.68); RI using the robust method was 15.64–19.05 and RI using the Harrell-Davis bootstrap method was 14.73 CI90 % (14.53–14.92)–21.14 CI90 % (20.88–21.40). Based on clinical applicability, we recommend utilizing the RI derived from the non-parametric method, aligning with the CLSI recommendations. Furthermore, we consider that our results can be taken as a reference in other laboratories that serve a population similar to our study cohort.

Abstract:Introduction To explore the association of red blood cell distribution width-to-albumin ratio (RAR) with 28-day mortality among septic patients, as well as to develop predictive models for evaluating the prognostic significance of RAR. Material and methods Relevant information was obtained from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III). A total of 1475 individuals diagnosed with sepsis were enrolled. Data on patients’ age, creatinine levels, and mechanical ventilation status in the initial 24 h after intensive care unit (ICU) admission were gathered. We employed multivariate COX analyses to investigate the correlation between RAR and 28-day mortality, and we conducted subgroup analyses stratified by gender, age, intervention modality, and disease progression. We established 4 prediction models relevant to RAR to forecast the 28-day mortality of septic patients. Additionally, we evaluated the predictive value using receiver operator characteristic curves. Results The significance of the association between RAR and 28-day mortality was maintained among sepsis patients regardless of their use or non-use of mechanical ventilation or vasopressor, presence or absence of septic shock, and gender (male or female). Additionally, these developed models associated with RAR demonstrated a good predictive value in forecasting the 28-day mortality rate among septic patients. Conclusions This study provides evidence, suggesting a significant correlation between RAR and the 28-day mortality among sepsis patients of ICU admission. It might show promise of RAR as a potential dependable prognostic marker for the prediction of 28-day mortality in sepsis patients.

Abstract:Respiratory tract ciliated cells, obtained from the rabbit trachea and maintained in culture, were sensitive to mechanical stimulation. The mechanical deformation of the cell surface induced a rapid, but transient, increase in ciliary beat frequency. In addition, the beat frequency of these ciliated cells was also increased in a dose-dependent manner by the beta-adrenergic drug isoproterenol (10(-7) to 10(-4) M) and by the calcium ionophore A23187 (10(-6) and 10(-5) M). To determine if drug and mechanosensitive activation of ciliary beat frequency arise from a common or different cellular mechanism, we investigated the effect of mechanical stimulation on beat frequency in the presence of isoproterenol or A23187. In isoproterenol (10(-8) to 10(-4) M), none of the parameters used to describe the ciliary beat frequency response to mechanical stimulation was altered. In A23187 (10(-6) M or above), the magnitude of the beat frequency response was significantly reduced or almost abolished, suggesting that mechanical stimulation acts, like A23187, to increase ciliary beat frequency by increasing intracellular calcium. Lower concentrations of A23187 had no effect. These results suggest that respiratory tract ciliated cells have at least two independent mechanisms for the control of ciliary beat frequency: one probably utilizing calcium, the other probably cAMP.
Efficiency of Monocyte/High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio Combined With Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio in Predicting 28-Day Mortality in Patients With Sepsis

Abstract:Background: Sepsis can cause unpredictable harm, and early identification of risk for mortality may be conducive to clinical diagnosis. The present study proposes to assess the efficacy of the monocyte/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR) combined with the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) on the day of admission in predictive efficacy in the 28-day mortality risk in critical patients with sepsis. Material and Methods: We administered observational and retrospective cohort research from a single center. The correlation of the clinical variables, together with the system severity scores of APACHE II and SOFA, are displayed by correlation analysis, and a Cox regression model could be performed to screen the independent risk factors and estimate the capacity of multiple markers in predicting 28-day mortality. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve served as an applied method to output cutoff values for the diagnosis and prognostic risk, and the area under the ROC curve and net reclassification improvement index (NRI), as well as integrated discrimination improvement index (IDI) were employed to assess the feasibility of multiple parameters for predictive value in 28-day mortality of septic patients. Results: The study enrolled 274 eligible patients with sepsis. The correlation analysis indicated NLR and MHR were related to the sepsis severity. A multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that NLR together with MHR displayed a close relation to death rate after adjusting for other potential confounders (NLR, HR = 1.404 [95% CI 1.170–1.684], P < 0.001; MHR, HR = 1.217 [95% CI 1.112–1.331], P < 0.001). The AUC of NLR, MHR, NLR_MHR was 0.827, 0.876, and 0.934, respectively. The addition on the biomarker NLR_MHR to the prediction model improved IDI by 18.5% and NRI by 37.8%. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that NLR and MHR trend to an elevated level in non-surviving patients with sepsis. Evaluation of NLR_MHR, an independent risk factor for increased mortality, might improve the predictive efficacy for 28-day mortality risk in septic patients.
