Abstract:Currently, the occurrence of tetracycline (TC) in the water environment has raised serious concerns. For utilizing the sunlight for degradation of TC is important to develop visible light semiconductor photocatalysts with high catalytic activity. In this paper, Cu2O/ZIF-8 particles were prepared by in situ growth method. The effects of the structures and performances of ZIF-8-doped Cu2O were examined via XRD, XPS, FTIR, SEM, TEM, BET, PL, EIS, ESR and UV–vis techniques. As result, Cu2O/ZIF-8 exhibited a better TC degradation rate constant (k = 0.0102 min−1), 1.9 times higher than that of Cu2O (k = 0.0053 min−1). The TC removal rate of Cu2O/ZIF-8 (84.1%) was higher than that of Cu2O (67.1%). Cu2O/ZIF-8 could still degrade TC effectively after four cycles, which proved that it had good stability. Also, the composite material showed superior removal efficacy in oxytetracycline (52%) and tetracycline hydrochloride (73%). The investigations on active species revealed that synergetic effects of Cu2O/ZIF-8 facilitated the production of oxygen radicals (•O2 −) and hole (h+) for boosting TC degradation. The photoelectrochemical results also confirmed the improved separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs at the interface of Cu2O and ZIF-8. The photocatalytic mechanism and the factors responsible for the enhanced photocatalytic performance of the Cu2O/ZIF-8 were investigated. This visible light-driven system will ultimately reduce resource consumption, providing a sustainable and energy-saving environmental decontamination strategy.

Abstract:As emerging pollutants, antibiotics in water environment posed a significant threat to human health and ecosystem. A lot of attention has been focused on tetracycline (TC). Photocatalysis, a green and efficient water treatment technology, has shown broad application prospects. Currently, the construction of photocatalytic heterojunctions is often limited to matching suitable energy band structures. However, simple surface doping largely restricted the carriers transport efficiency and stability. In this study, a series of composite photocatalysts (designated as NMSN-x) were prepared by functionalized metal organic framework Ti-MOF and covalent organic framework SNW-1 for TC removal. The schiff-based reaction was employed to achieve covalent linkage between the monomer catalysts, which greatly enhanced the carrier transport efficiency of the composite photocatalysts. Under UV light, the NMSN-1.5 demonstrated impressive removal capability to TC, which removed 93.10 ± 2.86 % of TC in 60 minutes and achieved 61.37 ± 2.18 % under visible light, with up to 76.51 ± 3.37 % removal in a natural water background. Carrier separation and transfer was greatly enhanced by the covalent connection between the monomers forming the heterojunction. Combined with density functional theory, the electron transfer mechanism was identified as Z-scheme heterojunction. In addition, the photodegradation intermediates of NMSN-1.5 were assessed to be significantly less environmentally toxic than TC itself. This study introduced a novel strategy for constructing photocatalytic heterojunctions for removal of TC, serving as a valuable reference in the field.

Abstract:It is of great significance to degrade antibiotics contamination by visible-light photocatalysis, however, exploiting photocatalysts with a strong visible light response, high efficiency, and stability remains a major challenge. Herein, a direct Z-scheme photocatalyst based on ZnIn2S4@MoO3 has been obtained, in which ZnIn2S4 nanosheets in-situ grow on MoO3 nanowire. The optimized composite exhibits good catalytic activity for the visible-light-driven degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl), of which the reaction rate is 25.8 and 7.8 times that of the pristine MoO3 and ZnIn2S4, respectively. The experiment results and density function theory (DFT) calculation revealed that the improved performance could be attributed to the Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism inside of the heterojunction, which can simultaneously mediate the direction of photoinduced charge migration, boost the charge transfer, and maintain the high redox capacity of photogenerated electrons or holes. Moreover, possible TC-HCl degradation routes are also proposed. This work could further motivate the rational design and synthesis of Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for removing antibiotics from the natural environment via visible light irradiation.
Core-shell structured Cu2O@HKUST-1 heterojunction photocatalyst with robust stability for highly efficient tetracycline hydrochloride degradation under visible light

Abstract:Constructing heterojunction has been widely applied in optimizing photocatalysts for organic pollutant removal. However, incompact contact interface and inappropriate band alignment in the heterointerface of two materials increase interfacial recombination, lowering the degradation efficiency. Herein, a facile strategy without any other surfactants or modification pretreatment was employed to encapsulate cubic Cu2O using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to construct heterojunction photocatalysts. The oriented growth of Cu-MOFs (HKUST-1) around cubic Cu2O (Cu2O@HKUST-1) with desired feedstock ratio for enhanced photocatalytic degradation performance was achieved. Compared with the individual components, the optimized Cu2O@HKUST-1 heterostructures exhibited enhanced tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) removal rate of 93.40% within 60 min under visible light irradiation. Obviously, mechanism exploration revealed that the combined effect between the core-shell structure with compact interfacial contact and an ideal type-II band alignment in Cu2O@HKUST-1 increased the carrier density and accelerated interfacial charge separation and transfer. Meanwhile, HKUST-1 shell protected Cu2O core from the photocorrosion well, assuring the robust stability of photocatalyst during the photocatalytic process. After the fourth cycle, the photocatalytic TC-HCl degradation efficiency and total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate by Cu2O@HKUST-1 remained at 90.02% and 49.64%, respectively. The radical trapping results and electron spin resonance (ESR) identified the h+ and O2 − were main active species in this photocatalytic degradation system. Besides, the TC-HCl degradation pathway was investigated by three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix fluorescence spectra and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technology. This work provides a facile method towards creating efficient and stable photocatalyst for organic pollutant removal.

Abstract:Heterojunction catalysts offer promising potential for efficient and sustainable remediation of polluted environments. In this study, Z-scheme Bi 2 MoO 6 /NiFe layered double hydroxide (BMO/NiFe) heterojunction catalysts were synthesized using solvothermal process. The surface morphology, crystalline structure, and photochemical characteristics of the synthesized photocatalyst were analyzed by several spectroscopic and electron microscopy methods. BMO , NiFe and BMO/NiFe were efficiently utilized for tetracycline (TC) antibiotics degradation under visible light irradiation. The experimental findings suggest that the BMO/NiFe 15 heterojunction catalyst greatly enhances the TC degradation rate to 95 % under 300 W visible light irradiation for 120 min. The rate constant of 0.0219 min −1 indicates a rapid degradation process following pseudo first-order kinetics. Furthermore, the effect of active free radicals, the recyclability of the catalyst and the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of TC were proposed. This novel method opens up possibilities for creating advanced photocatalysts, which can effectively degrade TC in water bodies, addressing the urgent need for its removal from aquatic environments. The present work serves as a primary pathway to design and develop efficient Bi 2 MoO 6 -based direct Z-scheme photocatalysts with promising applications in simultaneous wastewater degradation with hydrogen evolution.

Abstract:Antibiotics, such as tetracycline hydrochloride (TC), are persistent pollutants in the environment due to their difficult degradation properties. In this study, a MoS2/ZnO heterostructure nanocomposite was synthesized and evaluated for its photocatalytic performance in degrading TC under simulated sunlight irradiation. The degradation rate of TC in the MoS2/ZnO/PMS system reached 97.56% after 30 min, surpassing the rates observed in both ZnO and MoS2/ZnO systems. The presence of active species, including, superoxide radical (•O2-), hydroxyl radical (•OH), sulfate (SO4•-) and singlet oxygen (1O2), was confirmed through trapping experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (ESR) analysis. The MoS2/ZnO heterostructure effectively suppressed the recombination of photogenerated charge carries, leading to improved photocatalytic efficiency. The results demonstrate the potential of the MoS2/ZnO/PMS system as a low cost and efficient method for the removal of TC from water. This study contributes to the development of photocatalytic materials for the degradation of persistent organic pollutants in aqueous environments.

Abstract:Exploring highly active and noble metal-free photocatalysts for the efficient photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics is of great significance. The CuFe2O4 nanostructured cube is synthesized by using a self-sacrificial template strategy, and two-dimensional Bi2MoO6 nanosheets are grown on the surface of CuFe2O4 through a solvothermal method to construct CuFe2O4/Bi2MoO6 S-scheme heterostructure. The CuFe2O4/Bi2MoO6 composite material exhibits eminent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of TC under simulated sunlight, with the optimal ratio CFO/BMO-2 achieving a degradation rate of 98.54 % within 30 min (initial concentration of TC: 50 mg L- 1). In addition, CFO/BMO-2 also has excellent magnetic recyclability and cycling ability. Rice cultivation tests demonstrate that the biotoxicity of TC is effectively removed. Density functional theory calculations and in-situ irradiated X-ray spectroscopy deeply reveal the mechanisms of charge separation and transfer of S-scheme heterojunctions in CuFe2O4/Bi2MoO6. The construction of S-scheme heterojunctions promotes the separation of photo-induced charge carriers and improves photocatalytic degradation performance by retaining holes and electrons with strong redox ability. The work provides a practicable method for constructing efficient spinel photocatalysts to drive wastewater treatment reactions, and the constructed magnetically recyclable photocatalysts have certain practical application potential.
Construction of functionalized In-based metal organic framework/BiOCl 1−x I x Z-scheme heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline: Performance and mechanism

Abstract:The environmental implications of antibiotics have drawn widespread attention. Numerous monomer-based bismuth oxide halide catalysts have been extensively studied to remove tetracycline (TC) from aquatic environments. Integrating bismuth oxide halide composites with In-based metal organic framework (NH 2 -MIL-68(In)) might potentially serve as a novel strategy. By meticulously adjusting Cl and I within the composite bismuth halide oxide (B-x), a suite of purpose built heterojunctions (NMB-x) were synthesized, which were engineered to facilitate the efficient photodegradation of TC in simulated and actual aquatic environments. The incorporation of Z-scheme heterojunctions yielded a significant enhancement in photocatalytic responsiveness and charge carrier separation. Notably, NMB-0.3 demonstrated remarkable TC removal efficiency of 88.52 ± 3.05%, which is 3.74 times of B-0.3 within 90 min. The apparent quantum yield was also increased from 8.97% (B-0.3) to 19.68% (NMB-0.3). The removal of TC from natural water bodies was also assessed. Moreover, the photocatalyst concentration, assessed using response surface method, was found to show influential factors on TC removal. In addition, density functional theory (DFT) simulations were employed to identify vulnerable sites within TC. Intermediates and pathways in the photodegradation of TC have also been inferred. Furthermore, a comprehensive environmental toxicity assessment of representative intermediates demonstrated that these intermediates exhibited significantly reduced environmental toxicity compared to TC. This study provides a new approach to the design strategy of efficient and environmentally friendly MOF-based photocatalysts.

Abstract:The construction of new electron transfer channels is essential to improve the photocatalyst activity. Herein, a novel Ag2MoO4/SrWO4/g-C3N4 photocatalyst with dual electron transfer channels was constructed by one-step precipitation method. The obtained photocatalysts were characterized using XRD, SEM, FT-IR, TEM, Uv-vis and PL. Under visible light, the photocatalyst was evaluated for its ability to degrade tetracycline (TC). The characterization results presented that the olive sphere-like SrWO4 and the nanosphere-like Ag2MoO4 were uniformly dispersed on the surface and pores of g-C3N4, forming a heterostructure and thereby heterojunctions, which promoted the internal electron transfer. The degradation experiments showed that the Ag2MoO4/SrWO4/g-C3N4 improved degradation efficiency of TC under visible light relative to monomeric and binary materials. In addition, the 20AMO/8SW/CN maintained 92.19 % degradation of TC after four cycles of experiments, showing excellent reusability. During the photocatalytic process, ·O2 -, h+, and ·OH promoted the degradation of TC. Combining with the energy band structure analysis, it was found that a novel dual electron transfer channel had been constructed among Ag2MoO4, SrWO4 and g-C3N4, which markedly enhanced photocatalytic efficiency. The work provides a potential approach for developing efficient and stable photocatalysts.

Abstract:The photocatalytic activity of individual metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) such as UiO-66-NH2 and MIL-101(Fe) is less satisfactory due to the disappointing separation rate of electron–hole pairs and weak solar energy utilization efficiency. In this context, we develop hierarchical dual Z-scheme heterostructured photocatalysts prepared via an in situ hydrothermal synthesis method anchoring cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanoparticles onto the (UiO-66-NH2)-(MIL-101(Fe)) (UM) dual metal–organic frameworks. Attributed to the synergistic effects of CdS, UiO-66-NH2, and MIL-101(Fe), the (UiO-66-NH2)-(MIL-101)(Fe)-CdS (UM-CdS) exhibits outstanding degradation activities toward TC degradability. Typically, 10 mg of UM-CdS achieved an 87% degradation rate of TC within 140 min, which is 8.7, 2.4, and 1.4 times than those of UiO-66-NH2, MIL-101(Fe), and CdS, which achieved higher photocatalytic degradation rate with a less dosage of catalysts compared with previous reports. The outstanding photocatalytic activity of UM-CdS is primarily attributed to its hierarchical structure, which provides numerous active sites. Additionally, the special heterostructure not only exhibits a dual Z-scheme migration mechanism for charge carriers, which facilitates the efficient separation and migration of photoinduced electrons and holes, but also promotes the redox capability of UM-CdS. Furthermore, the trapping tests demonstrated that •O2 –, •OH, and h+ were the main active species during the photocatalytic process. The degradation products or intermediates were also studied in-depth through the liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS) technique. Besides, the UM-CdS possesses excellent stability, retaining more than 90% initial photocatalytic activity after the fifth cycle. This work provides a double MOF-supported CdS strategy to prepare recyclable dual Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for the degradation of refractory antibiotics (e.g., TC) in sewage.

Abstract:Single-phase photocatalysts exhibit low performance of photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, which is mainly due to the fact that most intrinsic photocatalysts can only produce one active species for degradation reactions. In order to solve this problem, the 0D/2D Cu2O/BiOCl S-scheme heterojunction was successfully constructed through a facile hydrothermal route. The obtained 0D/2D Cu2O/BiOCl displays high catalytic activity for tetracycline (TC) photodegradation, and 90.3% of TC was photodegraded within 80 min, which is much better than that by pure Cu2O and BiOCl. The excellent photocatalytic activity can be ascribed to the formation of S-scheme heterostructures, which enables the photocatalyst to generate superoxide radicals and hydroxyl radicals, and at the same time, makes the oxidation potential more positive and the reduction potential more negative. It is further proved by the results of experimental characterization and theoretical calculation show that the built-in electric field between Cu2O and BiOCl is a key factor in inducing the path of S-scheme electron transmission. In addition, the effects of various reaction conditions, including catalyst dosage, pH value and reaction temperature, on the photodegradation of tetracycline were discussed in detail. The intermediates and degradation path were also discussed in detail by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Abstract:CoFe2O4 was successfully prepared by calcination of bimetallic MOF precursors, and CoFe2O4/FeS2 nanocomposites were prepared by compounding it with FeS2. The catalysts were characterized for their photocatalytic ability using tetracycline (TC) as a target contaminant. The high adsorption due to the wide specific surface area of MOF-derived CoFe2O4/FeS2 led to its excellent photocatalytic performance. Furthermore, the optimum dosages of catalyst and persulfate in the M-CFO/FeS2/Na2S2O8/Vis system were determined. The variation of catalytic performance as a function of pH was also investigated. The degradation mechanism studies assisted by ESR technique and heterojunction structure analysis confirmed the Z-type heterojunction formation and generation of sulfate as well as superoxide free radicals, which played the main species responsible of TC degradation.
Efficient removal of tetracycline from MOF-on-MOF heterojunctions driven by visible light: Evaluation of photocatalytic mechanisms and degradation pathway

Abstract:The low photocatalytic efficiency of a single MOF limits its application, and the assembly of different MOF into MOF-on-MOF heterojunctions can construct fine charge transfer interfaces, thereby improving the photocatalytic ability. In addition, the heterojunction constructed by the two MOFs can maintain the porous structure of the MOF material to a large extent, which is conducive to the adsorption behavior. In this paper, Z-scheme heterojunction is prepared by solvothermal growth of MIL-88B on NH 2 -MIL-125 matrix. The Z-scheme heterojunction of NH 2 -MIL-125@MIL-88B greatly improves the photo-response range and charge separation efficiency. It showed good photocatalytic activity for tetracycline (TC) degradation. Under visible light irradiation, the removal efficiency of NM-3 catalyst with the best performance reached 96.26 % within 120 min, and the rate constant was 0.02428 min −1 , which was about 9.75 times and 4.16 times of NH 2 -MIL-125 and MIL-88B alone. The results of free radical trapping and ESR indicated that O 2 − and OH take important parts in the photodegradation of TC. The active sites and degradation pathways of TC vulnerable to attack were predicted by DFT calculation and intermediate analysis. The design and preparation of Z-scheme heterojunction provide a new strategy for visible light degradation of TC.

Abstract:It is challenging to engineer a photocatalyst that can degrade antibiotics efficiently. We have successfully developed a series of photocatalysts by annealing In-MOF (BUT-205) with TiO2, namely (a) In2O3/TiO2-I, (b) In2O3/TiO2-II, and (c) In2O3/TiO2-III. These catalysts, particularly In2O3/TiO2-III, exhibited superior efficiency in degrading tetracycline (TC) under visible light. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of In2O3/TiO2-III can be attributed to the formed S-scheme heterojunction, which promoting the separation of electron-hole pairs. The S-scheme heterojunction was confirmed by XPS, in-situ XPS, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and Mott-Schottky plot, etc. Compared to pure TiO2 and In2O3, the In2O3/TiO2-III demonstrated an 18-fold and 3-fold higher degradation rate constant (k). Various factors affecting the degradation of TC were investigated, including pollutant concentration, catalyst type, solution pH, catalyst dosage, inorganic anions, inorganic cations, and radical species. Photoluminescence (PL) and transient photocurrent density evaluate the separation rate of electron-hole pairs, and EPR experiments (active species trapping) studies confirmed •O2 − and h+ as the primary entities in TC photodegradation by In2O3/TiO2-III. HPLC/MS analysis revealed the photocatalytic degradation pathway. The MOF-derived photocatalysts efficiency in TC photoreduction results from the formed S-scheme heterojunction, making it a promising candidate for environmental remediation.

S-scheme photocatalyst Mo2C/α-Fe2O3 with vacant oxygen for highly efficient tetracycline degradation in peroxymonosulfate-mediated photocatalytic system

Abstract:To alleviate antibiotic problems in the aqueous environment, the integrated the photocatalysis/sulfate-based catalytic systems as a promising technology has received widespread attentions. In this work, a S-scheme heterojunctions Mo2C/α-Fe2O3 with oxygen vacancies (OVs) were prepared through a hydrothermal method and applied for tetracycline-TC degradation in peroxymonosulfate-mediated photocatalytic system. The results indicated that the 8%-Mo2C/α-Fe2O3 coupled with PMS/Vis conditions (Mo/Fe-2/PMS/Vis) presented the highest degradation efficiency and excellent repeatability, which could degrade 93% tetracycline-TC in 15 min and its kinetic constant (0.1404 min−1) was 4.9 and 4.0 times higher than that of Mo2C/PMS/Vis (0.0289 min−1) and α-Fe2O3/PMS/Vis system (0.0348 min−1), respectively. Mo2C with metallic Mo0 was proved not only to enhance the light absorption but also to accelerate charge separation/transfer. Moreover, the exposed Mo/Fe active components were beneficial for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and the abundant OVs played an essential role in the generation of non-radical 1O2. Radical quenching experiment revealed that the generated active species participated in TC decomposition and their relative contribution order was: h+>1O2> SO4 •-> •O2 -> •OH. The toxicity prediction reflected that the toxicity of most of degradation intermediates was lower than that of TC. Additionally, the underlying catalytic mechanism of this joint system and the TC degradation pathways were clarified in detail. This study demonstrates that constructing an integrated photocatlysis/sulfate-based catalytic system for water remediation is a feasible technology.

Abstract:Heterogeneous photocatalysis has been considered as a green and sustainable alternative for water decontamination where the key step is the nanomaterials design to enhance the photocatalytic process. Therefore, in this study the photocatalytic degradation of an emerging contaminant as the tetracycline antibiotic in aqueous solution, was investigated under UV–Vis irradiation by using the WO3/ZnS photocatalyst. The coupled catalyst was synthesized by hydrothermal method and by varying the WO3 weight ratio (5, 10 and 20 wt%) with respect to the ZnS. The WO3/ZnS photoactivity for tetracycline degradation was greatly enhanced when both semiconductors were coupled to form a highly efficient direct Z-scheme. The highest degradation percentage was reached using the catalyst t WO3(5%)/ZnS, which completely degraded the pollutant within 90 min, and the determination of total organic carbon (TOC) removal indicated a high mineralization degree. Photoelectrochemical studies showed that WO3(5%)/ZnS exhibited the highest separation of e−/h+ pairs and the highest transfer efficiency. The improvement of the electron-hole separation in combination with the band alignment analysis, explained the intrinsic mechanism which corresponded to the direct Z-scheme photocatalytic system.

Abstract:The construction of heterojunction composites using suitable semiconductor materials is an effective method for the removal of organic pollutants from wastewater. Herein, Bi4O7/Cu-BiOCl nanocomposites were synthesized by hydrothermal and calcination methods as photocatalysts. The morphology, structure, and optical properties of the composites were characterized by SEM, XRD, EDX, FT-IR, DRS, and PL related techniques. Results show that Cu-BiOCl was tightly loaded on the surface of Bi4O7, and the heterojunction was successfully formed between them. The photocatalytic activity of the composites was evaluated by the degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light irradiation. It was found that Bi4O7/Cu-BiOCl-2 exhibit excellent photodegradation performance than that of single-phase materials, and the photodegradation efficiency of TC could reach 91% in short time (60 min). Meanwhile, Bi4O7/Cu-BiOCl-2 composite showed high stability and degradation efficiency in simulation experiments with different water sources and inorganic anions doping. The possible degradation pathways were investigated by LC-MS and 3D EEM, and the mechanism was studied using capture experiments and electron spin resonance. Thus, this work provides a new approach for the design of bismuth-based heterojunction photocatalysts.

Abstract:Herein, ZnO based materials are modified to narrow the photonic band gap, improved utilization rate of visible light and recombination efficiency of photoexcited carriers for the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). For this purpose, a photonic crystal (PC) heterojunction was constructed comprising of nitrogen (N) doped cadmium sulfide (CdS) coupled with ZnO (CdS-N/ZnO) via sacrificial template and multilayer in-situ deposition methods. The constructed PC junction acted as photocatalyst for the effective degradation of TCH under visible light by synergistically promoting the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs, narrowing the band gap and broadening the light absorption spectrum of ZnO. Moreover, a slow light effect was achieved by adjusting the band gap of the PC overlapped with the wavelength of incident light, which finally enhanced the light harvesting performance of the CdS-N/ZnO photocatalyst. The optimized PC CdS-N/ZnO composites exhibited efficient TCH removal rate of 97.0 % in 90 min and kb as 4.00–15.17 times that of other reported catalysts. Moreover, PC CdS-N/ZnO catalyst achieved 45.2 % mineralization rates reached in 120 min with high stability and reusability for six cycles. HPLC-MS method was used for monitoring the intermediates of TCH degradation, and also analyzing the possible pathways of products. In addition, the toxicity of TCH and its intermediates were also investigated, which showed that the toxicity has effectively been alleviated. The photocatalytic mechanism endowed that ·O 2 – and h + are the major active free radicals in the photocatalytic degradation process, and the electron transport path is type II heterostructure. This work will thus envisage a novel vision of designing ZnO photocatalysts for the antibiotic degradation in the practical application of wastewater treatment.

Abstract:The development of photocatalysts with a wide spectral response and effective carrier separation capability is essential for the green degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride. In this study, a magnetic recyclable Z-scheme ZnO/ZnFe2O4 heterojunction (ZZF) was successfully constructed via the solid phase method, using MIL-88A(Fe)@Zn as the precursor. An appropriate band gap width and Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism provide ZZF with excellent visible light absorption performance, efficient charge separation, and a strong redox ability. Under visible light irradiation, the degradation efficiency of tetracycline hydrochloride for the optimal sample can reach 86.3% within 75 min in deionized water and 92.9% within 60 min in tap water, exhibiting superior stability and reusability after five cycles. Moreover, the catalyst in the water can be conveniently recovered by magnetic force. After visible light irradiation for 70 min, the temperature of the reaction system increased by 21.9 °C. Its degradation constant (35.53 × 10−3 min−1) increased to 5.1 times that at room temperature (6.95 × 10−3 min−1). Using thermal energy enhances the kinetic driving force of the reactants and facilitates carrier migration, meaning that more charge is available for the production of •O2− and •OH. This study provides a potential candidate for the efficient degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride by combining thermal catalysis with a photocatalytic heterojunction.
