The new species shares characters with both Burmalestes (antennomere 5 elongate and procoxae subcontiguous) and Cretaparamecus Tomaszewska et al. Abstract:A new genus and two new species, Tholimantispa zuoae gen. et sp. nov. and Mantispidipterella curvis sp. nov. are described from the Upper Cretaceous of northern Myanmar amber collected in 2015. Tholimantispa zuoae gen. et sp. nov. is characterized by its distinct pterostigma, broad costal space, bifurcate humeral veinlets, and so forth, and Mantispidipterella curvis sp. nov. is different from Mantispidipterella longissima Liu, Lu et Zhang, 2017 in its ScP (subcosta posterior) distinctly curved at fusing point with RA (radius anterior), RP (radius posterior) abruptly and angularly curved at ra‐rp (crossvein between RA and RP), AA3 (third branches of the anterior anal vein) present. The new fossil species enrich the diversity of Dipteromantispidae in the Cretaceous.

Abstract:Based on exceptionally well-preserved mid-Cretaceous amber specimens from northern Myanmar, we identified a novel genus and species Elongatus kachinus gen. et sp. nov. (Bostrichidae, Dinoderinae). This classification was established on the basis of distinctive features, including the head being obscured from a top view, the antenna possessing nine segments, the pronotum lacking lateral margins, and occasionally displaying small tubercles at the rear. Additionally, the metatarsi are shorter than the metatibiae, with the final segment of each being equivalent in length to the preceding four segments combined. The unearthing of this new genus not only enhances the fossil record diversity within the Dinoderinae subfamily during the mid-Cretaceous period but also furnishes a valuable fossilized framework for prospective research on the broader evolution and progression of the Bostrichidae family.

Abstract:The abundance of insects in Burmese amber illustrates a highly diverse insect community from the mid-Cretaceous period; yet, records of crickets (Grylloidea) are notably scarce. In this study, we describe two new genera with three new species, Palaeotrigonidium concavoculus gen. et sp. nov., Palaeotrigonidium defectivus sp. nov., and Tricalcaratus longilineus gen. et sp. nov., based on three specimens collected in north Myanmar. These new species can be placed within the Trigonidiidae (Orthoptera: Grylloidea) by their triangular head, compound eyes that protrude in dorsal view, and a body entirely covered with robust setae, particularly noticeable in the head and pronotum; however, subfamily assignments are not possible. Another known species, Birmaninemobius hirsutus, Xu et al., 2020, from Myanmar amber is redescribed based on a new specimen and a recheck of the holotype.

Abstract:Hitherto, only two species of the thysanopteran suborder Terebrantia have been reported from mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber (Myanmar). This is here expanded through the discovery of two new genera and species, described and figured as Parallelothrips separatus gen. et sp. nov. and Didymothrips abdominalis gen. et sp. nov. , both of the family Stenurothripidae . Both taxa have key apomorphies of the Stenurothripidae , allowing for a confident assignment as to family. Both species have characteristic comb-like anteromarginal setae, which are discussed along with structural differences between the two sexes. Cycad pollen was found on the thrips' bodies, providing further evidence that Thysanoptera were pollinators of gymnosperms during the mid-Cretaceous.

Abstract:Here we report a new species, Cretodorus lijuanae sp. nov., of extinct Mimarachnidae from mid-Cretaceous amber of northern Myanmar. C. lijuanae sp. nov. was described based on one adult and three nymphal fossils. The new adult specimen exhibits the diagnostic features of Cretodorus and possesses a unique number and arrangement of sensory pits in the pronotum: nine sensory pits on one side, with five sensory pits between median and pronotal carinae and four sensory pits between lateral carina and margin, which is consistent in the nymphs. We also conduct morphometric analyses of forewings of all known species of Cretodorus, demonstrating that morphometrics are effectively discriminative for identifying Cretodorus fossils featuring few longitudinal veins and minimal differences in venation. Additionally, we report the nymphal fossils of Mimarachnidae for the first time. Three nymphal fossils, preserved in the same piece of amber alongside the adult specimen, exhibit the same nodule pattern on the thoracic notum in dorsal view, suggesting a feature linking adult and nymph of Mimarachnidae. These new specimens show morphological characteristics of the different developmental stages of C. lijuanae sp. nov., increasing the diversity of the Mimarachnidae in mid-Cretaceous amber from Myanmar. The preservation of three nymphs of the same age with an adult in the same piece of amber likely indicates aggregation behaviour in Mimarachnidae.

Abstract:The recently erected family Minlagerrontidae, with a series of extremely unusual or even grotesque morphological features, is a bizarre Clypeata group known from the mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber in northern Myanmar. The hitherto known minlagerrontids are ascribed to two species within one genus (Minlagerron). We here report a new genus and species of the family, Megagerron zhuoi gen. et sp. nov., from the same amber biota. The new genus differs from the type genus, Minlagerron, in having a relatively large body size, somewhat compressed compound eyes and a series of tegminal traits. Noteworthily, the following two tegminal features possessed by the new genus are common in Clypeata, but different from these in Minlagerron: the prenodal veinlets on stem R + MP absent (vs. one veinlet present in Minlagerron) and the apical cell C5 open (vs. almost closed by the two terminal branches of CuA in Minlagerron). Our finding adds some novel information to the knowledge of the morphological and taxonomic paleo-diversity of this enigmatic Mesozoic hemipteran lineage. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A new species of Cascogryllus and a new genus of Tridactylidae (pygmy mole crickets) are established based on two specimens from mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber. Amberotridactylus cheni gen. et sp. nov. is mainly characterized by nine-segmented antennae, absence of swimming plates (tibial lamellae) on serrated metatibia, metatarsus slightly longer than apical spurs, and absence of subapical denticular process on metatarsus. Amberotridactylus cheni gen. et sp. nov. is the first representative of the subfamily Tridactylinae from the Mesozoic and the oldest fossil record of this subfamily. Cascogryllus setosus sp. nov. is mainly identified by ten-segmented antennae, prosternum with a prosternal tubercle, curved ScA nearly ending on mid-length of ScP, R present, and almost identical length of paraproctal lobes and cerci. Our findings enrich the biodiversity of pygmy mole crickets in the Cretaceous.

Abstract:The abundance of insects in Burmese amber illustrates a highly diverse orthoptera community of the mid-Cretaceous, but the records of ripipterygids are relatively rare. Here, we reviewed the genus of Magnidactylus (Xu, Fang and Jarzembowski, 2020) and transfered it from Tridactylidae to Ripipterygidae. Based on four ambers specimens collected from northern Myanmar, two new species, Magnidactylus mirus sp. nov. and Magnidactylus gracilis sp. nov., wereerected. M. mirus sp. nov. can be characterized by its basal segment and apical segment of paraproctal lobes, which are equally thick and clavate. M. gracilis sp. nov. can be characterized by its apical segment of paraproctal lobes, which are distinctly swollen. Additionally, in order to facilitate the classification of amber specimens of Tridactyloidea, a key to the genera ofambers in this superfamily is provided.

Abstract:Helotidae is a small and morphologically uniform family in Nitiduloidea. In this study, we report an unusual form of helotids, represented by Lobatihelota lescheni Li, Liu & Cai gen. nov., sp. nov. and L. iridescens Li, Liu & Cai sp. nov. from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. Lobatihelota is unique within the family in having a leg morphology typical of some Nitidulidae and Kateretidae (tibia widened distally, tarsomeres 1–3 bilobed, tarsomere 4 shortened). Additionally, new diagnostic characters are suggested for Trihelota from the same deposit (prosternum and mesoventrite with paired carinae, metanepisterna short, metacoxae meeting elytra laterally), and the morphological divergence of representative genera of the superfamilies Erotyloidea, Nitiduloidea and Cucujoidea is visualised using a phylomorphospace approach. Abstract:Limnichidae are currently a moderately diverse beetle family with a sparse fossil record. Here we describe a new limnichid genus and species, Anomocephalobus liuhaoi Li, Jach & Cai gen. et sp. nov., from the mid-Cretaceous amber from northern Myanmar. Anomocephalobus gen. nov. is tentatively assigned to the extant subfamily Cephalobyrrhinae, based on its transverse metacoxae, 5-segmented protarsi, and absence of grooves on the ventral surface for reception of legs, though its oval body shape is somewhat deviating from extant Cephalobyrrhinae. The generic placement of the recently described Erichia cretacea Yu, Slipinski, Ren & Pang, 2018 is also discussed.

Abstract:The beetle family Mysteriomorphidae (Coleoptera: Elateroidea) was recently described based on a single species from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. Only six specimens of an unknown sex were reported in previous studies. Here, for the first time, we examine female specimens of Mysteriomorphus Alekseev and Ellenberger, 2019 for which we describe the morphology of the ovipositor and report striking differences between them in several diagnostic characters. Additionally, we synonymize the recently described genus Trapezioceps Qu, Jarzembowski and Luo, 2023, syn. nov. with Mysteriomorphus. The monospecific Trapezioceps, also known only from Burmese amber, was erroneously classified in Cantharidae. We tentatively keep the species originally described in Trapezioceps valid, hence Mysteriomorphidae currently contain two described species: M. pelevini Alekseev and Ellenberger, 2019 and M. longelytrus (Qu, Jarzembowski and Luo, 2023), comb. nov. Based on the new findings, we discuss the morphology, variability, and diversity of Mysteriomorphus.

Abstract:Three new species of plate-thigh beetles are described and figured from mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber, all representing the extant genus Eucinetus Germar. The species, Eucinetus debilispinus Li & Cai sp. nov., E. panghongae Li & Cai sp. nov., and E. zhenhuai Li & Cai sp. nov., are distinguished from each other by the forms of the antennomeres, leg spination, and form of the spurs. The genus Eucinetus represents a key example of long-term evolutionary stasis with a subcortical lifestyle. This further demonstrates the role of stable cryptic microhabitats in the persistence of some lineages over vast spans of geological time.

Abstract:Two new species, Burmusculus flexus sp. nov. and Burmusculus mutatus sp. nov. of Burmusculus Zhang and Rasnitsyn, 2018 in Burmusculidae, are described from the mid-Cretaceous amber of northern Myanmar. A key to all seven species of Burmusculus and detailed comparisons among the species are provided. Veins 1-Rs, 1-M, 1cu-a, 2m-cu and 2-Rs with different states suggest interspecific diagnostic characters within Burmusculus.

Abstract:The cicadellid subfamily Ledrinae known in the Mesozoic is represented by two monotypic genera erected on six compression fossils from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation in Brazil, and the monotypic genus Qilia based on an adult leafhopper in mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber from northern Myanmar. We herein describe and illustrate a new female ledrine in Kachin amber, based on which a new genus and species, Duyana electronica gen. et sp. nov., is established. Duyana gen. nov. shares a series of features with the genus Qilia, but is distinguishable from the latter with some novel morphological characteristics. The hitherto definite cicadellid recorded in the Mesozoic are very scarce, and our find provides new information on early disparity of this mega-diverse insect lineage.

Abstract:Sphaeriusidae is a small family of tiny aquatic beetles in the suborder Myxophaga. In this study we characterize two new sphaeriusid fossils from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber with the help of confocal laser scanning microscopy. Sphaerius martini Li & Cai sp. nov. displays similarities with both extant Bezesporum and Sphaerius, although it can be readily recognized based on the parallel-sided prosternum. Crowsonaerius minutus Li & Cai gen. et sp. nov. differs from other genera of Sphaeriusidae in having unreduced apical maxillary palpomeres, lowered mesoventrite, large metacoxal plates, separated mesotrochanter and mesofemur, and equal pretarsal claws. Abstract:The mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber from Kachin State of northern Myanmar provides a scanty but rather diverse fauna of sawflies. Herein Grandixyela rasnitsyni gen. et sp. nov. is described and illustrated on the basis of a well-preserved male specimen from Myanmar amber. The new fossil genus and species is characterized by wing venation and body characters, such as 15-segmented antenna with the first flagellomere distinctly shorter than the remaining, pterostigma narrow and completely sclerotized, 1-RS distinct (not dot-like), RS distal of 2r-rs gently S-shaped, ending to pterostigma beyond its apex for a short distance. A checklist and a review of known syspastoxyelid species are discussed. Additionally, our findings not only provide important morphological characters, especially the well-preserved details of the venation and genitalia, but also broaden new data on the Cretaceous diversity of symphytan wasps and further extend the records of syspastoxyelids to six genera and seven species.

Abstract:Nosodendridae is a small polyphagan beetle family with a sparse fossil record. Herein, the fossil Nosodendridae from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber (ca. 99 Ma) are systematically reviewed. Nosodendron cretaceum Deng et al. is transferred into Archaenosodendron Li Cai gen. nov., as A. cretaceum (Deng et al.) comb. nov., primarily based on the morphology of prosternum. Three new species of Archaenosodendron from Burmese amber, A. explanatum Li Cai sp. nov., A. remotidens Li Cai sp. nov., and A. angulare Li Cai sp. nov., are also described and illustrated. A key to nosodendrid genera and species from Burmese amber is provided.

Abstract:Stratiomyidae is one of the most species-rich and morphologically diversified Diptera families of the orthorraphous Brachycera. Despite the large species diversity and prevalence in various environments, soldier flies are rare in the fossil records, especially in amber deposits. Here we present the first two Prosopochrysini fossils from Miocene amber. The fossils are assigned to a new genus— Cenorhaphiocerina gen. nov .— included in the extant tribe Prosopochrysini, with the description of two species, C. dominicana sp. nov . from amber mines in the Dominican Republic and C. kraemerae sp. nov . from amber areas in Simojovel, Chiapas, Mexico. The new genus and species are compared with other extant genera of Prosopochrysini.
