Abstract:Paraffin/HDPE/WF/graphite phase change composites are prepared by heating eutectic method,using solid paraffin as phase change material,high density polyethylene(HDPE) as supporting material,wood flour(WF) as carrier material and graphite as filler.Phase change composites are tested by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA),differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) and leakage experiments.The results show that the composite has stable structure,good thermal stability,thermal conductivity and encapsulation efficiency.The phase change temperature and latent heat are 60.1℃ and 93.71 J/g,respectively,under the following conditions:50% of the content of paraffin,10% the content of WF and 4% of he content of graphite.

Abstract:Heat energy storage using phase change materials (PCMs) in electric radiant floor heating system (ERFHS) is a favorable solution to the improvement of energy efficiency. In this paper, the sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate (Na2S2O3•5H2O,STP)- sodium acetate trihydrate (CH3COONa•3H2O, SAT) eutectic mixture was prepared by adding 30 wt.% STP and 70 wt.% SAT. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium pyrophosphate (Na4P2O7,TSPP) were added to fabricate the modified STP- SAT phase change material. The results showed that almost no phase separation occurred in STP- SAT eutectics with 1 wt.% CMC and 0.4 wt.% TSPP, and its supercooling degree was reduced to 0.3 °C. The thermal properties of the composite phase change material (CPCM) with different contents of expanded graphite (EG) were studied. And the experimental results showed that the composite containing 8% EG displayed a high phase change enthalpy (186.0 kJ/kg) and an ignorable supercooling degree. The addition of EG increased the thermal conductivity of STP-SAT from 0.748 to 2.92 W/m•K. The thermal reliability of CPCM was confirmed through the thermal cycle test and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). After 200 thermal cycles, CPCM exhibited fantastic thermal stability and reliability.

Abstract:The demand for space heating and domestic hot water has caused an increase in building-energy consumption. Thermal energy storage systems can effectively solve the mismatch between heat supply and demand. Phase change materials (PCMs) can be served as the thermal storage media for thermal energy storage systems. In this study, the tailor-made sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT, a kind of PCM) was developed. Multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was employed as the nucleation agent of SAT, meanwhile other carbon-based materials, including carbon fiber (CF), expanded graphite (EG), and graphene nanoplates (GNPs), were synergistically used as thermal conductivity and photothermal conversion enhancers. Ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) was innovatively adopted as a phase change temperature regulator for SAT. The results showed that the supercooling degree of SAT decreased to 0.9 °C with the presence of MWCNTs. The thermal conductivity of SAT improved by 54.9%, and the photothermal conversion efficiency increased to 89.3% after incorporating GNPs into the SAT/MWCNTs composite. Furthermore, phase change temperature of the SAT/MWCNTs composite, ranged from 57.5 °C to 45.1 °C, could be prepared by adjusting NH4Cl contents for satisfying different application scenarios. The results indicate that the prepared SAT composites can be potentially used in different thermal energy storage systems.

Abstract:The sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT)/expanded graphite (EG) composite phase change material (PCM) was firstly prepared by absorbing liquid SAT into a porous network of EG, in which SAT acted as the PCM. EG prepared at microwave irradiation power of 800 W for 30 s with maximum volumes has the largest sorption capacity for SAT. At the mass fraction of SAT <95 %, SAT uniformly disperse in the pores of EG without liquid leakage evidenced from scanning electron microscopy characterization. X-ray diffraction results further show that PCM is just a combination between SAT and EG without any chemical reaction. Differential scanning calorimeter measurements indicate that the melting temperature and latent heat of the composite PCM are 59.5 °C and 202 J g−1, respectively, close to those of pure SAT. The thermal conductivity of the composite PCM can be as high as 1.589 W m−1 K−1.The form-stable SAT/EG composite with SAT mass fraction of 95 % has great potential in thermal energy storage due to its moderate melting point, significant latent heat storage capacity, form-stable property, direct usability without need for an extra storage container, and high thermal conductivity.

Abstract:Sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) is considered as a promising material for medium- and low-temperature (<80 degrees C) thermal energy storage owing to its appropriate phase change temperature, large heat storage capacity, weak corrosion, and low cost. To adapt to the large-scale application, industrial-grade SAT-based composite phase change materials (PCMs) were prepared. Supercooling, phase separation, and thermophysical properties of composite PCMs were analyzed by experiments. Charging/discharging performances of such PCMs in a plate heat storage unit were investigated by simulation. The results showed that 4 wt% sodium pyrophosphate decahydrate (SPD) and 4 wt% polyacrylamide (PA) both of industrial grade could effectively solve the phase separation and supercooling of SAT. Composite PCMs was found to have a melting temperature of 54.2 degrees C and a latent heat of 211.8 J/g. To achieve a good charging/discharging performance, PCMs loading volume should be close to 100% for avoiding the space between the wall and PCMs. The temperature difference between the wall and PCMs was also required to exceed 8-10 degrees C both in charging and discharging process. Thickness of plate unit should be less than 80 mm. The results of this work could provide a foundation for the large-scale thermal energy storage applications of SAT.

Abstract:In this study, three different volume expansion ratios of expanded graphite (EG) are prepared and investigated to enhance the heat transfer efficiency of the sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) composites. A series of SAT composite phase change materials (CPCMs) with EG were prepared. The influence of volume expansion ratio and mass fraction of EG on thermodynamic characteristics of SAT CPCMs was examined, including thermal conductivity, phase change temperature, enthalpy, latent heat storage and release time, and the degree of supercooling. Results showed that SAT CPCMs can be absorbed adequately by EG, and EG could enhance the heat transfer efficiency effectively. But it also brought some problems with the addition of all the three volume expansion ratios of EG, such as the poor enthalpy and serious supercooling. Particularly, the situation gets worse with the increase in mass and expansion ratio of EG. Therefore, it is better to choose the EG with proper expansion ratio or reduce the proportion of the EG which possesses higher expansion ratio. Besides, thermal cycling test and thermogravimetric analysis revealed that the SAT CPCMs with 3 mass% EG showed a good thermal stability.

Abstract:Sodium acetate trihydrate (CH3COONa·3H2O, SAT), as the medium-low temperature phase change material (PCM), has been broadly utilized in thermal energy storage system. The specific objective of this study was to develop a new SAT-based composite PCM (CPCM) in order to restrain the supercooling and phase segregation of pure SAT. In this dissertation, SAT-CN/Nano-Cu was synthesized by adding carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), sodium chloride (NaCl) and Nano-copper (Nano-Cu). The experimental results manifest that CMC is resultful to constrain phase separation of pure SAT. Supercooling degree of pure SAT is reduced from 30°C to less than 5°C by the addition of varying NaCl content. The Nano-Cu was furnished to further prevent the supercooling phenomenon of CPCM as well as intensify the heat transfer characteristics of pure SAT. Thermal properties containing thermal conductivity, latent heat and specific heat capacity were systematically analyzed using DSC and thermal properties analyzer. The analysis results demonstrate that a satisfactory thermal conductivity, high latent heat and inclusive of an appropriate specific heat capacity are achieved by the SAT-CN/Nano-Cu. In short, this work reported optimum CPCM consisted of SAT, 3 wt% CMC, 4 wt% NaCl and 0.8 wt% Nano-Cu that possesses superior phase change performance. Additionally, admirable thermal stability is retained by the CPCM.

Abstract:In response to the pressing demands for sustainable energy, the development of efficient energy storage materials and technologies has emerged as a focal point in contemporary research. Sodium acetate trihydrate (CH 3 COONa·3H 2 O, SAT), recognized for its potential as a mid-to-low temperature phase change material (PCM) in energy storage systems, encounters significant limitations due to its substantial supercooling effect and inferior thermal conductivity. Traditional approaches to enhance SAT's thermal performance often involve costly additives, which hinder their adoption on an industrial scale. This study introduces SAT as a base compound, and through a fusion blending method, binary eutectic hydrate salt composites (CPCMs) are synthesized with either sodium sulfate decahydrate (Na 2 SO 4 ·10H 2 O, SSD) or disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (Na 2 HPO 4 ·12H 2 O, DHPD) in varying ratios. The results demonstrate that the prepared eutectic hydrates effectively reduce the supercooling degree of pure SAT from above 35 °C to below 10 °C, with the SAT/SSD-5/5 composition exhibiting the lowest supercooling at 3.17 °C. Notably, these eutectic blends possess appreciable latent heat capacities, with SAT/SSD-9/1 delivering 196.18 J/g, and exhibit improved thermal conductivity, as seen in SAT/SSD-3/7 with a coefficient of 0.8925 W/(m·K). Furthermore, the SAT-based eutectic hydrates are devoid of expensive additives, facile to manufacture, and applicable over a broad temperature range (20–60 °C), making them highly suitable for large-scale commercial applications.

Abstract:Although salt hydrate is characterized as a potential energy storage material, some of its disadvantages still can be encountered, such as mismatched phase change temperature, low thermal conductivity, phase separation, and large supercooling. In this paper, a novel composite phase change material (CPCM) with sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) as the main body is fabricated by melting blending for heat pump system. Potassium chloride (KCl) is used as a modification agent to modulate the SAT phase change temperature. Carboxyl methyl cellulose (CMC) and disodium phosphate dodecahydrate (DSP) are employed as thickening and nucleating agents to address the phase separation and supercooling issues, respectively. Expanded graphite (EG) is utilized as a high heat conduction additive to enhance the thermal conductivity. Furthermore, the thermal properties and stability of the novel CPCM are studied. In order to identify the thermal properties of the novel CPCM, a high energy density coil-type latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) unit employing the CPCM as energy storage material is set up, while a cycle of thermal charge and release in the unit between heating at 70 °C and cooling at 30 °C is designed to accommodate a scenario of residential heating. The experimental and numerical results indicate that the modified SAT yielded the desired phase change temperature of 49.3 °C, high latent heat of 224.6 kJ/kg, low supercooling degree of 0.96 °C and high thermal conductivity of 0.981 W/(m·K) are recognized when a minor ingredient with 8 wt% KCl, 4 wt% CMC, 4 wt% DSP and 3 wt% EG in the melting blend is prepared. Besides, the novel CPCM also exhibits good thermal stability with a latent heat loss of 7.14 % and supercooling degree remaining within 5 °C after 200 cycles. Moreover, the heat storage density of the LHTES unit employing the novel CPCM is up to 385.93 kJ/L, and its heat charge and release efficiency reaches to 91.39 %. Further, the average heat storage and release power of the proposed LHTES unit shows an increasing trend with a higher flow rate within a certain range. The findings of this study can provide a guidance for the large-scale thermal energy storage applications of SAT.

Abstract:The thermal conductivity, thermal cycling behaviour, and deformation resistance of composite phase change materials (cPCMs) based on sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) can be effectively improved using expanded graphite (EG). Existing studies have primarily focused on the effect of the expansion ratio on the cPCMs of SAT, and the effect of the particle size of EG on the cPCMs of the SAT has received limited attention. Additionally, more research is required on the degree of supercooling and effective thermal cycles in thermal cycles. In this study, the effects of EG of different sizes (250 and 425 μm) and proportions (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 wt %) on the thermal properties and the phase change behaviour of cPCMs in thermal cycles were studied. The results revealed that the 425 μm EG had a better effect on improving the thermal conductivity of the cPCMs, whereas the 250 μm EG had a better effect on improving the thermal cycling stability of cPCMs, as evidenced by the sample with 3 wt% of 250 μm EG completing 512 solidification cycles out of 530 thermal cycles.

Abstract:Phase change materials (PCMs) are a kind of highly efficient thermal storage materials which have a bright application prospect in many fields such as energy conservation in buildings, waste heat recovery, battery thermal management and so on. Especially inorganic hydrated salt PCMs have received increasing attention from researchers due to their advantages of being inexpensive and non-flammable. However, inorganic hydrated salt PCMs are still limited by the aspects of inappropriate phase change temperature, liquid phase leakage, large supercooling and severe phase separation in the application process. In this work, sodium acetate trihydrate was selected as the basic inorganic PCM, and a novel shape-stabilized composite phase change material (CPCM) with good thermal properties was prepared by adding various functional additives. At first, the sodium acetate trihydrate-acetamide binary mixture was prepared and the melting point was adjusted using acetamide. Then the binary mixture was incorporated into expanded graphite to synthesize a novel shape-stabilized CPCM. The thermophysical properties of the resultant shape-stabilized CPCM were systematically investigated. The microscopic morphology and chemical structure of the obtained shape-stabilized CPCM were characterized and analyzed. The experiment results pointed out that acetamide could effectively lower the melting point of sodium acetate trihydrate. The obtained shape-stabilized CPCM modified with additional 18% (mass fraction) acetamide and 12% (mass fraction) expanded graphite exhibited good shape stability and thermophysical characteristics: a low supercooling degree of 1.75°C and an appropriate melting temperature of 40.77°C were obtained; the latent heat of 151.64 kJ/kg and thermal conductivity of 1.411 W/(m·K) were also satisfactory. Moreover, after 50 accelerated melting-freezing cycles, the obtained shape-stabilized CPCM represented good thermal reliability.

Abstract:With the establishment of the basic policy of environmentally-friendly and resource-saving society, the energy storage technology using phase change materials (PCMs) as the medium has developed unprecedentedly. Hydrated salt PCMs plays a vital role due to its large latent heat density, wide range of phase transition temperature, and high thermal conductivity. However, the problems of low enthalpy, poor thermal stability and phase separation are critical drawbacks of composite phase change materials (CPCMs), which limited the extensive use in fields of energy storage. In this work, the flaky vermiculite (MEVM) was fabricated by the acid treatment and alkali leaching, and the cured lotus root starch (CLRS) was embedded and used to enhance the water holding capability of hydrated salts. A series of sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT)-CLRS/MEVM was prepared, and the form-stable composite phase change materials (SAT fs-CPCMs) were obtained. Results showed that the encapsulation capacity of SAT fs-CPCM with 2 wt% CLRS was 71.3 %, and the thermal enthalpy reached 180.1 J/g, which was 43.7 % higher than that of SAT/MEVM. The contact angle of the sample with H2O was 22.24°, which represented hydrophilicity. SAT fs-CPCM also had good thermal stability and thermal reliability. After 200 thermal cycles, the enthalpy loss of the SAT fs-CPCM was only 5.2 %, and the 200th enthalpy value was 173.72 J/g. In addition, Calculations indicated that there were hydrogen bonds and van der Waals weak interaction between SAT and CLRS. This work provides a new perspective for the improvement of the thermal properties of hydrated salt and offers a promising approach for the applications of PCMs in cost-effective energy storage.

Abstract:<p>To create an energy–efficient heat pump latent heat thermal energy storage (HPLHTES) system, a novel sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT)–potassium chloride (KCl)–urea/expanded graphite (EG) composite phase–change material (CPCM) was developed in this study. EG was introduced into the base composite salt to prepare the novel CPCM, SAT–KCl–urea/EG. The thermal properties, crystalline phase, and morphology of the resulting CPCM were experimentally characterized. It was found that the SAT–KCl–urea/EG CPCM comprising 9 wt% EG was optimal for affording improved thermal–energy storage performance without compromising phase–change properties. The obtained CPCM exhibits an appropriate melting point of 47.5 °C and a high phase–change enthalpy of 200.3 kJ/kg. The thermal conductivity of the SAT–KCl–urea/EG CPCM was 1.48 W/m·K, approximately 5.3 times that of the SAT–KCl–urea composite salt (0.28 W/m·K). The required phase–change duration of the SAT–KCl–urea/EG CPCM was approximately 30% less than that of the SAT–KCl–urea composite salt. After 100 thermal–cycle tests, the SAT–KCl–urea/9 wt% EG CPCM retained a desirable phase–change temperature of 45.9 °C, high latent heat of 190.8 kJ/kg, and an acceptable supercooling degree of 1.56 °C. These thermal feature results showed that the SAT KCl–urea/9 wt% EG CPCM exhibited great potential for use in the HPLHTES systems.</p>

Abstract:In this work, bentonite–based composite phase change materials (CPCMs) were fabricated by the impregnation of fatty acid eutectics into bentonite clay. In the composites, the palmitic acid (PA)–stearic acid (SA) eutectics mixtures were undertook as phase change materials (PCMs) for thermal energy storage, and the bentonite were performed as the supporting material. Expanded graphite (EG) was employed for helping restrain the eutectic mixtures from leakage as well as improving thermal conductivity of the CPCMs. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was adopted to assess the thermal properties of the composites, the results showed that the CPCMs have suitable melting temperature of around 54°C with latent heat capacity of 89.12–163.72kJ/kg. Fourier transformation infrared (FT–IR) and X–ray diffractometer (XRD) were utilized to test the chemical structure and crystalline phase of the CPCMs. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed that the organic PCMs homogenously spread to the surface and interior of the bentonite. The thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA) detected that the CPCMs were provided with good thermal stability. As the content of the EG increased, the leakage of the PA–SA eutectics reduced considerably. The results from the thermal conductivity meter (TCM) showed that the thermal conductivity of the CPCM with content of 5% EG reached to 1.51W/(mK) in liquid state and 1.66W/(mK) in solid state, which was nearly 5.6 times and 4.9 times higher than that of the CPCM without the EG. Experiments displayed that the thermal storage and release rates were noticeably enhanced by combining the EG into original CPCMs. The CPCMs maintained thermal properties after 50 heating–cooling cycling. It is envisioned that the satisfactory CPCMs maintain considerable prospects in thermal energy storage.

Abstract:Expanded graphite (EG) is often used to encase phase change materials (PCMs) and improve their thermal performance. However, EG's effectiveness when used with disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (DHPD) as a hydrated salt is diminished, due to its hydrophobic property. This study proposes modifying the hydrophobic surface of EG with highly hydrophilic nanoparticles, such as SiO 2 and TiO 2 , to address this shortcoming and boost its hydrophilicity. Herein, the nanoparticles were synthesized by the sol-gel technique and mixed with EG to construct a modified EG (MEG). The microstructure, morphology, and adsorption ability of MEG were analyzed. Additionally, the thermal properties, as well as the thermal stability of form-stable composite PCMs, were investigated. The results revealed that by varying the mass ratio of SiO 2 @TiO 2 in MEG, the supercooling degree of the form-stable composite PCMs decreased by 77.36%–78.49%. With 9% SiO 2 @TiO 2 in MEG, the water contact angle of MEG was optimal, and the form-stable composite PCMs prepared (DSMEG3) exhibited a phase change temperature and latent heat of 32.88 °C and 142.13 J/g, respectively. This experimental latent heat was slightly lower than the calculated latent heat by 0.12 J/g. Meanwhile, the supercooling degree decreased to 3.01 °C, and the thermal conductivity increased to 1.23 W/(m ∙ K), which was 1.73 times than that of DHPD. Moreover, DSMEG3 also showed good shape stability, preventing leakage. Therefore, the form-stable composite PCMs, as prepared, are a great potential candidate for the energy storage applications.

Abstract:Depletion of fossil fuels has boosted the world's focus on the renewable energy sources. Phase change materials (PCMs) are the promising options for thermal energy storage and probably holds the key to solving the discontinuous energy supply of renewable energy sources like solar energy. Combined sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) with MXene, the composite phase change materials (CPCMs) have been prepared. The surface morphology, phase change behavior, thermal conductivity, thermal reliability, thermal stability, light‐absorption properties, and solar energy photothermal conversion efficiency of the CPCMs with various MXene contents were analyzed and characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermal conductivity analyzer, thermal cycling testing and UV–Vis spectrophotometer, respectively. According to the microstructure morphology analysis, MXene is accordion‐shaped, tightly associated with SAT, and has a layered porous structure that can effectively adsorb phase change materials (PCMs). DSC measurement results showed that prepared composite PCMs possess high latent heat and suitable phase change temperature for the applications of solar heat storage. The absorption wavelength range of SAT/MXene is extended from 200‐258 nm to 200‐497.7 nm with a photothermal conversion efficiency of 81.3%. Thermal conductivity testing revealed that SAT/MXene‐2%, SAT/MXene‐8%, and SAT/MXene‐14% had thermal conductivities of 0.84, 1.14, and 1.47 W/(m·K), respectively, which were higher by 44.9%, 96.6%, and 153.4% than 0.59 W/(m·K) of pure SAT. SAT/MXene composites exhibit excellent thermal stability and reliable cycling stability after 50 cycles, which shows that MXene could prevent the leakage during the solid‐liquid phase transition process and improve the stability of PCMs. The combination of SAT and MXene is based on the physical mixing by capillary adsorption rather than a chemical reaction, resulting in extremely high thermal stability. The expansion of PCM's practical applicability and MXene/SAT composites with good photothermal characteristics create a theoretical foundation for the effective use of renewable energy sources. Abstract:The form-stable paraffin/high-density polyethylene/expanded graphite/epoxy resin composite phase change materials (CPCMs), exhibiting suitable thermal properties, including low melting temperature, high conductivity and high phase change enthalpy, was developed in this work. Herein, paraffin (PA) was utilized as a core PCM. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) was utilized for the shape stabilization and preventing the PCMs leakage. Expanded graphite (EG) was used to increase its thermal conductivity and act also in the porous supporting material. Epoxy resin (ER) was used to provide flexible encapsulated scaffold morphology and keep a highly tight network structure of the PCMs. However, the physical architecture, the chemical architecture and thermal behavior properties of specimens were investigated by using the spectroscopy and calorimetry techniques. The scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and fourier transform infrared spectrometer FTIR tests have shown good uniformity structure and good compatibility of components. In addition, the thermal conductivity tests revealed that the thermal conductivity of PA, initially 0.31 W/(m·K) improved up to 1.9 times by adding the 6 wt% mass fraction of EG in composite PCMs. Furthermore, the differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) measurements indicated that PA melting enthalpy, initially 231 J/g decreased up to 125 J/g with the increase of the amount of HDPE which was due to the limitation caused by the atomic network constructed by the base material. The thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and leakage-proof revealed the enhancement of the degradation of PA with the raise of amount of the HDPE into the CPCMs. Therefore, the proposed form-stable CPCMs are a great candidate for the thermal regulation and thermal energy storage employment.

Abstract:The need to heat buildings during peak periods increases energy consumption. Solar/electric-to-thermal energy conversion heat storage systems can effectively address the heating mismatch issue due to variable solar light intensity. Sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT), borax, and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were used as the solar/electric energy storage medium, nucleating agent, and thickening agent, respectively. A carbon material, expanded graphite (EG), was used as the thermal conductor and solar/electric energy conversion enhancer. EG also acts as a nucleating agent synergistically with borax. The results show that adding 4 wt% EG, 1 wt% borax, and 2 wt% CMC decreased the supercooling of SAT to 1 °C without phase separation, and the composite exhibited excellent thermal cycling stability and a high latent heat storage capacity of 261.5 J/g. The thermal conductivity of the composite increased by 287.7% compared to pure SAT, and its solar-to-thermal energy conversion and electric-to-thermal energy conversion efficiencies reached 90.3% and 87.1%, respectively. This study offers a method for developing thermal storage systems with multiple energy conversion capabilities for prospective applications in solar energy utilization, electrical energy recovery, and building heating.

Abstract:Sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) with a working temperature of about 58 °C is a significant working medium in thermal energy storage and solar energy utilization. However, supercooling effect inevitably hinders its heat release in practical applications. Typically, nucleating agents can effectively eliminate the supercooling of SAT. A concomitant problem is that the nucleating agent addition reduces the thermal energy storage capacity. In this work, a state-of-the-art methodology is constructed to eliminate the supercooling and preserve the thermal energy storage capacity of SAT synchronously by utilizing the sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate (SDPD) as a novel nucleating agent. The supercooling of SAT can be reduced from 34.8 °C to 0 °C when increasing the SDPD content from 0% to 1.2%. The corresponding latent heat is slightly increased from 227.30 Jg-1 to 248.77 Jg-1. Thermal conductivity is maintained at a relatively high level of 0.6 Wm−1K−1. Polypyrrole (PPY) with strong solar absorption is assembled with the SAT/SDPD composites to realize the solar energy harvesting. Taking the advantages of the functional components, the proposed SAT/SDPD/PPY device is applied in personal thermal management and the thermoelectric power generation to produce thermal comfort and clean electric energy by the solar-thermal conversion, thermal energy storage and thermal energy utilization. This work provides a new strategy for manufacturing advanced inorganic PCMs and paves the way for the application of inorganic PCMs toward solar energy utilization.
