Abstract:Azo dye wastewater belongs to the highly concentrated organic wastewater, which is difficult to be treated by traditional biological processes. The oxidation efficiency of a single physicochemical method is not considerable. Recent research indicated that the advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on the highly reactive hydroxyl radical (∙OH) became one of the preferred methods in dealing with such dye wastewater. In this paper, the typical azo dye, reactive brilliant red X-3B, was employed as the target pollutant, and the transition metal Mn and hydrogen peroxide as the catalysts. A photo-Fenton-like process, UV/Mn2+-H2O2 system, was established, which enables a combination of various technologies to improve azo dye degradation efficiency while reducing disposal costs. The results indicated that the UV/Mn2+-H2O2 system had the synergism of Mn2+/H2O2 and UV/H2O2, which was 2.6 times greater than the sum of the two individual effects. And the degradation of X-3B reached the optimum under the conditions of 0.59 mmol/L of the Mn2+, 10 mmol/L of the H2O2, pH = 6 and a high level of DO. The ∙OH, generated from chem-catalytic and photocatalytic decomposition of H2O2, played the predominant role in the decolorization of X-3B and mineralization of its intermediates. The ∙OH tended to attack and break the chromophore group, resulting in the rapid decolorization of X-3B. The azo bond in X-3B was easy to be decomposed in the form of N2, while the triazinyl group was recalcitrant for ring opening. The degradation process of the UV/Mn2+-H2O2 system preferred to be conducted at an acidic condition and appropriate concentrations of Mn2+ and H2O2. The alkaline condition would decrease the utilization of H2O2, and excessive H2O2 would also quench the ∙OH.

Kinetics of Cationic Red X-GRL Photo-degradation in Immersion Photochemical Reactor

Abstract:The decomposition of Cationic Red X-GRL, an important color pollutant in the wastewater of the print and dyeing industry, was carried out by direct photo-degradation in an immersion photochemical reactor provided with a monochromatic low pressure mercury vapor UV radiation source. The conversions were obtained as a function of the operation variables (temperature and pH). The photo-degradation rate equation was deduced based on a proposed photo-degradation mechanism of the Cationic Red X-GRL. The Line Source Spherical Emission model was used to evaluate the radiation flow rate absorbed by the solutions in the photochemical process. The application of this model to experimental results gave the reaction quantum yields ranging from 30.11 to 48.70 Leinstein-1. Finally, by using least square regression analysis, the quantum yields were well correlated as a modified Arrhenius equation of temperature and pH with the activation energy of 15.76 kJmol-1.
Degradation of Textile Dyes Employing Advanced Oxidative Processes: Kinetic, Equilibrium Modeling, and Toxicity Study of Seeds and Bacteria

Abstract:The textile industries' production of effluents with a high content of organic matter and coloration is notorious, particularly as regards their effect on the aquatic environment. This occurs in the presence of dyes that inhibit light penetration, thus affecting the biodegradability of the medium. This study evaluates the advanced oxidative processes (AOP) for use in the degradation of the reactive red 195 and direct black 22 textile dyes using bench reactors. The photo-Fenton/sunlight process was efficient, achieving a degradation of over 99% for the chromophore groups after 150 min when utilizing [H2O2] = 60 mg L−1, [Fe] = 1 mg L−1, and a pH of between 3 and 4. The kinetic model into which the experimental data best fitted was the non-linear model which employs wavelength monitoring. The COD study indicated an organic matter conversion rate of 94.96%, with a good kinetic adjustment (R2= 0.9927. A mathematical model was proposed to estimate the degradation (%) according to the variables [H2O2], [Fe], pH, and λ. In addition, the present study evaluated the toxicity of the solution, both before and after the treatment, and was verified that the treated solution was toxic by using a concentration of 10% of Lactuca sativa and Syzygium aromaticum seeds. The toxicity analysis using microbiological techniques showed that, after the treatment, the percentage of inhibition was reduced considerably, dropping to 46.0% for the sample without dilution and inhibiting only 33.4% for SPT1%.
Low-cost flow photoreactor for degradation of Reactive Black 5 dye by UV/H2O2, Fenton and photo-Fenton processes: a performance comparison

Abstract:In this work, a flow photoreactor was designed and set up using low-cost and recyclable parts to develop chemical treatments based on advanced oxidation processes (AOP) of highly colored textile wastewater. To evaluate this sustainable system´s efficiency, we investigated and compared the performance of three types of destructive methods (UV/H2O2, Fenton, and photo-Fenton) on the decolorization of aqueous solutions of Reactive Black 5 dye (RB5). We also analyzed the effect of the oxidant and dye concentrations on the rate of color removal in each one of the three methods. The results showed that, regardless of the initial operating conditions, the photo-Fenton process achieved the highest degradation rates, particularly when the highest ratio between the oxidant and dye concentrations was used ([H2O2]: [RB5] = 24.5 mg L-1: 25 mg L-1), leading to complete color removal within only 10 minutes of reaction. With the same initial condition, the Fenton and UV/H2O2 processes were also capable of removing the color entirely, even though they demanded more extended runs of 25 min. and 45 min., respectively. The effect of pH on the decolorization by the photo-Fenton process was also investigated, showing the same high performance at pHs 3 and 4. The degradation profile achieved by the photo-Fenton treatment was appropriately fitted by a pseudo-first-order kinetic. The non-expensive photoreactor proved to be quite useful for the degradation of the RB5, mainly when this azo dye underwent the photo-Fenton process.

Photoinduced Degradation of Orange II on Different Iron (hydr)oxides in Aqueous Suspension: Rate Enhancement on Addition of Hydrogen Peroxide, Silver Nitrate, and Sodium Fluoride.

Abstract:Photoinduced organic oxidation with iron (hydr)oxides in aqueous suspension has been argued with respect to two principal mechanisms: (a) photoinduced ligand-to-metal charge transfer within a surface complex and (b) semiconductor photocatalysis. In this work, the photodegradation of azo dye orange II with UV light (lambda > or = 320 nm) in the aerated aqueous suspensions of haematite, maghemite, magnetite, goethite, lepidocrocite, and feroxyhite at an initial pH of 6.5 has been examined. The results showed that (1) all of the catalysts were effective at initiating dye photodegradation but the iron oxides appeared to be more active than the iron hydroxides; (2) the photodissolution of different iron phases and the dye photolysis in the dissolved iron solutions were very slow; (3) the initial rate of dye loss was proportional to the initial amount of adsorption, implying dye photodegradation on the catalyst surface; and (4) upon addition of H2O2, AgNO3, and NaF to the suspension, the rate of dye photodegradation was significantly enhanced with all the catalysts. In the presence of H2O2, less than 50% of the total rate enhancement was ascribed to the photo-Fenton reaction in solution and the dark Fenton reactions in solution and on the catalyst. In the presence of AgNO3, about 1 mole of silver particles was produced by consuming 3 moles of the dye substrate. In the presence of NaF, hydroxyl radicals were detected by an ethanol scavenger, whereas such radicals were not found in the absence of NaF. Moreover, under visible-light irradiation (lambda > or = 450 nm), the dye degradation was much slower than that under UV irradiation, but the reaction was also accelerated by the addition of NaF and AgNO3. The results suggest that mechanism b, not mechanism a, is operative for dye photodegradation occurring on the iron (hydr)oxides. A detailed discussion of all possible pathways is given in the text.
Degradation of Remazol Brilliant Blue Dye Using Persulfate Activated by Fe3O4@PDA Nanoparticles: Kinetic Studies, Radical Determination, and Phytotoxicity Test

Abstract:In the current research work, an advanced oxidation process was applied to the degradation of Remazol brilliant blue dye (RBBD) using a sulfate radical. Fe3O4@PDA nanoparticles were synthesized using coprecipitation and self-polymerization techniques. Nanoparticle formation was confirmed by XRD, FTIR, FESEM-EDX, VSM, and XPS analyses. The crystalline nature of the material showed that it possessed a spherical shape with an Ms value of 58 emu/g. The elemental composition and binding energy from EDX and XPS analyses showed successful doping. Batch studies were conducted, and experimental studies showed that the optimum condition for degradation of 90 ppm of RBBD was 0.3 g/L of nanomaterial, 20 mM PS at pH 3, achieving 91.35% degradation. The kinetic model suitable for this study was a pseudo-second-order kinetic model with R2 value >0.9. From the radical identification tests, sulfate radicals played a dominant role in degradation, and to confirm it, EPR analysis was conducted using DMPO. A stability test was performed for 5 cycles in which the degradation efficiency was reduced appreciably. From XPS, XRD, and EDX analyses, the elemental composition and oxidation state of the recycled material used in the fifth cycle showed variation in a negligible manner when compared to the fresh catalyst used in the first cycle of the degradation experiment. Intermediate identification was done by GCMS analysis, and it disclosed the formation of aliphatic products from the degradation of RBBD with less toxicity. Phytotoxicity analysis was conducted using green grams for 10 days, and it proved that intermediates formed in the solution were nontoxic to the plants. Additionally, TOC and COD removal % were attained to be 80.021 and 80.903%, respectively, which confirm the mineralization efficacy. Hence, this research work proved the efficient performance of the catalyst for RBBD degradation with less formation of intermediates, and therefore, this technique is most suitable for the reduction of water pollution.

Abstract:The quest for cleaner environments is a global concern. Hence, the investigation of degradation of the indigo carmine dye (IC) with peroxydisulphate ion in an aqueous sulphuric acid system with a view to understanding its kinetic degradation and mechanism. The degradation depicts first‐order kinetics in [S2O82−] and [IC], and the degradation mole ratio of IC: S2O82− is 1:1. The degradation rate is dependent on the change in ionic strength and medium permittivity of the system. Also, added ions (NH4+ and NO3−) influence the degradation rate of the dye which further supported the outcome of the change in ionic strength. Free radical participation is ruled out. The experimental rate law is given as (Kk3[H+])[IC][S2O82−]. Owing to the absence of detectable intermediates in the degradation process, an outer‐sphere mechanism is proposed. The study is significant in textile industries and medical settings for making environments less toxic with a well‐understood degradation rate pathway.

Abstract:In this study, the effectiveness of a rhodamine B (RhB) dye degradation process at a concentration of 20 mg/L in different advanced oxidation processes—H2O2/UV, O3/UV and PDS/UV—has been studied. The use of UV in a photo-assisted ozonation process (O3/UV) proved to be the most effective method of RhB decolorization (90% after 30 min at dye concentration of 100 mg/L). The addition of sulfate radical precursors (sodium persulfate, PDS) to the reaction environment did not give satisfactory effects (17% after 30 min), compared to the PDS/UV system (70% after 30 min). No rhodamine B decolorization was observed using hydrogen peroxide as a sole reagent, whereas an effect on the degree of RhB degradation was observed when UV rays strike the sample with H2O2 (33% after 30 min). The rhodamine B degradation process followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics model. The combined PDS/O3/UV process has shown 60% color removal after 30 min of reaction time at an initial dye concentration of 100 mg/L. A similar effectiveness was obtained by only applying ozone or UV-activated persulfate, but at a concentration 2–5 times lower (20 mg/L). The results indicated that the combined PDS/O3/UV process is a promising method for high RhB concentrations (50–100 mg/L) comparing to other alternative advanced oxidation processes.

Degradation kinetics of azo dye reactive Red SBE wastewater by complex ultraviolet and hydrogen peroxide process

Abstract:UV/H2O2 was applied to deal with azo dye Reactive Red SBE (RR SBE) in aqueous and effects of hydrogen peroxide dosage, initial dye dosage, pH value, and different anions on color removal were investigated in detail. The online spectrophotometric method was used to detect the change dye absorbance at different reaction time. The results show that RR SBE can be completely decomposed in less than 40 min with 4.412 mM H2O2 dosage, initial dye 17 mg L−1 and neutral ambient. The RR SBE degradation performance follows pseudo first order kinetics and the reaction rate constant of ·OH and RR SBE is 2.32 × 109 M−1 s−1 that is estimated by UV/H2O2 kinetic model. The anions inhibiting effect on dye decolorization follows the order of PO43− > CO32− > Cl− > SO42− > HCO3− > HPO42−. The main intermediate product is phthalic acid dimethyl ester after UV/H2O2 degradation and possible decomposition mechanism of RR SBE is predicted by GC‐MS analysis. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 2011

Ozonation of some dyes in aqueous solution and toxicological assessment of their oxidation products

Abstract:The effects of ozonation on the degradation processes of a lot of dyes in aqueous solution were studied. The results demonstrated that ozonation was a highly effective way to remove the colour of dye solution, and kinetic analysis indicated that decolourization rates of these dyes were all approximated as pseudo-first-order kinetics. During ozonation process, sharp increase of conductivity and rapid decrease of pH revealed the formation of inorganic ions and acidic by-products. Acetate, sulfate, oxalate, and nitrate were identified as main ozonation products of Direct Red Brown RN by ion chromatography (IC). The toxicity of by-products was determined by a bioluminescence inhibition assay With Photobacterium phosphoreum. The results showed that there was an increase, and then, a decrease in toxicity after zonation, and their toxicity generally followed the order acid dyes > direct dyes > reactive dyes.

Abstract:The wastewater that originates from the widespread usage of synthetic dyes in the industry have become a severe environmental problem. Several efforts have been made to develop new types of treatment which are capable of performing the degradation of the dyes from the environment. Within this scope, much attention has been drawn to enzymatic approaches, mainly the ones applying oxidative enzymes, such as peroxidases. A recently discovered superfamily of peroxidases, the so called dye-decolorizing peroxidases (DyPs) is a promising alternative to further improve the efficiency of these processes. In this work, two of these peroxidases (Saccharomonospora viridis (SviDyP) and Thermobifida fusca (TfuDyp)) were tested together with twelve different reactive dyes in order to evaluate the efficiency of degradation and decolorization, leading to good results. When applying the SviDyP enzyme in experiments carried out for 12 h in pH 3, the degradation efficiencies were above 80% for some dyes. The biodegradation efficiency data and cyclic voltammograms were recorded to obtain the redox potential of the chosen dyes and enzymes. In addition, an electrochemical biosensor was used to gauge the genotoxicity of the generated bioproducts. This analysis showed that bioproducts from dye degradation mostly present a lower degree of genotoxicity when compared to the control reactions.

Efficient self-photo-degradation of cationic textile dyes involved triethylamine and degradation pathway

Abstract:Cationic textile dyes such as astrazon brilliant red (ABR), are frequently used in the textile industry and contaminant the water ecology. Photodegradation of such dyes in wastewater is considered as a promising method, while the existing approaches are usually involved complicated and costly materials as photocatalysts. Facial, effective and low-cost approaches for their decontamination are needed. What's more, the detailed decomposition path of ABR is not revealed. The present study shows that ABR could suffer effective self-photo-degradation under triethylamine treatment without a photocatalyst. Almost 100% of the dye degraded within one hour under visible light irradiation. UV-vis, FTIR and UPLC-MS analysis conformed the degradation of ABR. Factors involved in the degradation system were investigated clearly. What's more, the accurate and detailed analysis of UV-vis, FTIR and UPLC-MS data combined with computational analysis revealed the decomposition process of ABR. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) was investigated from ROS trapping experiments and EPR measurements, which revealed that •O2– was the critical ROS in the degradation process, while 1O2 and •OH had slightly influence on the degradation progression.

Abstract:A novel photocatalyst, nanoporous anatase TiO2 crystalline particles coupled by homogeneously dispersed Keggin unit, H3PW12O40/TiO2, was prepared by a simple and rapid process, i.e., at a lower temperature (200°C) by combined sol–gel and programmed temperature hydrothermal methods. The resulting material was characterized by UV diffuse reflectant spectroscopy, XRD, 31P MAS NMR, TEM, and nitrogen adsorption. This new photocatalyst exhibited visible-light photocatalytic activity to decompose 10 various organic dyes in aqueous systems. It was attempted to determine the feasibility of such a degradation by varying the chemical structures, either azoic (Congo Red (CR), Methyl Orange (MO), Ponceau G (PG), Orange II (OII), and Eriochrome Blue Black B (EB)), or anthraquinonic (Alizarin S (AS)), or heteropolyaromatic (Methylene Blue (MB)), or fluorescent (Neutral Red (NR), Rhodamine B (RB)), or sulfonic (Fuchsin Acid (FA)). The intermediates and the final products of degradation were detected by electrospray mass spectrometer (ES-MS) and ion chromatography (IC). According to the experimental results, we proposed a possible mechanism of the photodegradation of dyes under visible-light irradiation in the aqueous system.
Photocatalytic degradation of azo dye using nano-ZrO2/UV/Persulfate: Response surface modeling and optimization

Abstract:Dyes have always been considered in the context of recalcitrant organic pollutants in water. The present research has focused on the decolorization of Direct Blue 71 (DB71) using photocatalysis process of nano-ZrO2/UV/ Persulfate. Response surface method with central composite design was applied to determine the effects of four main factors (time, ZrO2 dosage, persulfate dosage and pH) on decolorization of DB71. The results indicated that the obtained quadratic model had a high R-squared coefficient based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Time had the highest effect (45.5%) on decolorization of DB71. The optimum condition predicted for complete decolorization was pH=7, 0.4 g ZrO2, 0.75 mM persulfate and 40 min reaction time. Verification experiments confirmed that there was good agreement between the experimental and predicted responses. The studied photocatalytic process could oxidize and destruct the structure of the DB71, and average oxidation state (AOS) significantly increased from −1.5 to +1.33, indicating the presence of more oxidized by-products and, consequently, improvement of biodegradability. The quenching tests showed that sulfate radical was the major agent in DB71 decolorization. It can be concluded that nano-ZrO2/ UV/Persulfate is a very effective process for decolorization of colored wastewater.

Abstract:The degradation of two textile dye molecules was studied using photochemical processes, both in the absence and presence of light. Various methods were employed, including photolysis/UV, combined H 2 O 2 /UV photolysis, Fe 2+ /UV treatment, Photo-Fenton/UV at 350 nm and Photo-Fenton with solar irradiation. The decolorization efficiency of dyes in aqueous solution was evaluated for two specific dyes: Bromothymol Blue (BTB) and Methyl Green (MG). These experiments were carried out in batch mode. The results demonstrated a synergy between light irradiation and the presence of Fenton's reagents, such as hydrogen peroxide and divalent iron. In addition, it was demonstrated that direct solar irradiation can be used without specific devices to achieve high efficiency at low cost. In the first part, we checked the impact of the various operating parameters. Reaction efficiencies were compared for the same system in the dark and under the assistance of an artificial or solar light source. In the second part, we studied the parameters of the Photo-Fenton process, such as the initial pH of the solution, the initial concentrations of oxidant, iron catalyst, and dye under irradiation from either light source. Whereas the mere photolysis without Fenton's reagents allowed decolorization yields below 26 %, addition of the oxidant (H 2 O 2 ) or the catalyst (Fe(II) species amplified the treatment efficiency. However, the presence of both H 2 O 2 and Fe(II) under light irradiation was shown synergetic with yields ranging from 72 to 85 % depending on the dye worked and the light source: because of its broader spectrum in the UV domain, solar irradiation led to the highest decolorization yields. The above results were obtained for well-defined proportions of dye and reagents: for a 20 mg/l dye solution, Fe(II) catalyst concentration equal to 10 −3 M, peroxide concentration of 5.10 −2 M and a pH of 3. These conditions allowed optimal production of OH · radicals, allowing high efficiency in systems using solar irradiation.

Abstract:This study presents the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) by photo Fenton-like (PF-like) process under visible light irradiation (λ > 380 nm) using cobalt phosphate microparticles (CoP-MPs). The effects of the initial concentration of RhB, pH value, CoP-MPs dosage, hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) concentration, and salts found in textile wastewater (such as NaNO 3 , Na 2 SO 4, and NaCl) were investigated in detail. It was found that CoP-MPs can maintain high catalytic activity with wide pH values varying from 4 to 8. This indicated that the use of CoP-MPs overcame the low efficiency of Fenton-like reaction at neutral and even weakly alkaline pH. The PF-like degradation of RhB followed pseudo-first order kinetics in various conditions. Moreover, a comparison of experimental results showed that the PF-like system has good degradation ability for RhB and methyl blue (MB) solution, but is poor for methyl orange (MO) solution. The repeat experiments indicated that the chemical structures of CoP-MPs were stable. Furthermore, the Co 2+ ions leaching to the solutions were measured by an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS). Analysis of UV-vis spectra suggested that RhB was degraded by the formation of a series of N -de-ethylated intermediates followed by cleavage of the whole conjugate chromophore structure. GRAPHICAL

Abstract:Sulfamethoxazole (SMX) is an antibiotic that is extensively used in veterinary medicine, and its occurrence in wastewater and surface water can reach up to 20 μg/L. SMX is categorized as a pollutant of emerging concern by the US EPA due to its persistence and effects on humans and the environment. In this study, photo-Fenton technology is proposed for the removal of SMX. Aqueous solutions of SMX (50.0 mg/L) are treated in a 150 W UV photoreactor, using [Fe2+]0 = 0.5 mg/L and varying [H2O2]0 = 0–3.0 mM. During the reaction, colour (AU) was assessed along with SMX (mg/L), turbidity (NTU), and TC (mg/L). SMX degrades to aromatic intermediates with chromophoric groups, exhibiting colour (yellow to brown) and turbidity. As these intermediates are mineralized into CO2 and H2O, the colour and turbidity of the water lose intensity. Using a molar ratio of 1 mol SMX:10 mol H2O2, the maximum degradation of aromatic species takes place (71% elimination), and colourless water with turbidity < 1 NTU is obtained. A kinetic modelling for aromaticity loss and colour formation as a function of the oxidant concentration has been proposed. The application of this model allows the estimation of oxidant amounts for an efficient removal of SMX under environmentally friendly conditions.

Abstract:Dyeing wastewater is a carcinogenic pollutant, which is widely known for its harmful effects on humans and marine organisms. In this study, a novel composite was prepared by blending thiourea modified chitosan with zinc sulfide nanoparticles (T-CS/ZnS) to comprehensively remove methyl orange (MO), rhodamine B (Rh B), and methylene blue (MB) effectively. Characterization results suggested that the synthesized composite has an irregular and rough surface that provided high specific surface area for adsorption process, while the strong optical response and low bandgap width contributed to the subsequent photocatalytic degradation of adsorbed dye molecules. Under optimum experimental conditions, the removal rates of MO, Rh B, and MB were 99.59 %, 99.49 %, and 91.04 %, respectively. Amino and hydroxyl groups provide electrons in photocatalytic reactions. The reaction process is consistent with the quasi-first-order kinetic model, and the material has good stability and regeneration potential. This study indicated that T-CS/ZnS composite is a highly effective material for the treatment of dyeing wastewaters.

Abstract:The direct UV photodegradation of Diacryl Red X-GRL was studied in an immersion photochemical reactor equipped with monochromatic UV source of 253.7nm. Different process parameters that may influence the UV photodegradation were studied. These parameters included temperature, pH, radiation flow rate of UV lamp, carrier gas flow rate, initial concentration of dye, concentration of t-BuOH, and the concentration of dissolved oxygen. Four possible photodegradation pathways of dye in the presence of dissolved oxygen were assumed to be as follows: homolysis of excited dye to radicals; electron transfer of excited dye to form radical dye cation; decomposition by superoxide radical anion; and decomposition by singlet oxygen. Based on photodegradation pathways the photodegradation rate equation was derived, and the overall quantum yield of photodegradation was determined using Line Source Spherical Emission Model (LSSE Model), which describes the radiation flow rate absorbed by the solution in the photodegradation process. The overall quantum yield is enhanced enormously from 0.46×10−3 in the absence of dissolved oxygen to 7.35×10−3 in the presence of 1.21×10−3M dissolved oxygen. However, the temperature had negative effect on the overall quantum yield, which varied from 8.54×10−3 at 288K to 5.53×10−3 at 308K. Finally, by using non-linear regression analysis, the overall quantum yield was correlated to be a function of temperature and dissolved oxygen in a modified Arrhenius equation with activation energy of 11.3kJmol−1.
Blue dye degradation in an aqueous medium by a combined photocatalytic and bacterial biodegradation process

Abstract:This paper aimed at implementing a treatment system for polluted water with textile dyes, starting with a photocatalytic decomposition process using sunlight as a source of energy and continuing with a bacterial biodegradation process, in order to reach degradation percentages higher than those obtained using only one of the processes mentioned above. When water treatment with the dye in the combined system was over, an acute ecotoxicity test was performed to make sure that toxic metabolites were not produced due to biodegradation. Solophenyl Blue azoic dye, and Erionyl Blue and Terasil Blue anthraquinone dye-colored solutions were treated with the Pd/Al 80 Ce 10 Zr 10 catalyst in a solar collector for the photocatalytic process. On the other hand, the waste dye, which was obtained from photocatalysis with a bacterial consortium from polluted areas by metals and hydrocarbons in aerobic conditions, was inoculated for biodegradation. Biodegradation was obtained for the dyes after both processes as 90.91% for the Solophenyl Blue azoic dye, and 87.80% and 87.94%, respectively, for the Erionyl Blue and Terasil Blue anthraquinone dyes. After the degradation processes, it was proven, via an ecotoxicity test with Daphnia magna , that toxic metabolites had not been produced.
