Abstract:Objective To analyze the literature of middle-range nursing theory based on Scopus database, and to provide suggestions for thoughtful researches in the future.Methods The Scopus database was searched for the literature of middle-range theory for nursing from inception to December 2018.Statistical analysis was carried out with the number of published articles, the distribution of periodicals and the research contents as the main indicators.Results A total of 307 papers related to middle-range theory for nursing was found, the year of publication was from 1988 to 2018.There were 63.19％ of the papers published in the United States and Canada, and the majority of the papers were from universities.There were four core journals related to this topic.Current studies on middle-range nursing theories mainly focused on the process of theory development, description, critique, testing and application.Conclusions Middle-range theory is an essential part of nursing theories.Domestic nursing researchers can conduct evaluative research based on the characteristics of middle-range theory and research questions, and try to localize the research of middle-range theory in nursing.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to examine the models and methods for evaluating digital libraries.METHODS: Springer, Science Direct, ProQuest, Emerald, Wiley, LISTA, Web of Science (WOS), Scopus, Magiran (Persian), Irandoc (Persian), SID (Persian) and Noormags (Persian) databases were searched systematically based on the defined criteria. Selection criteria included full-text articles and dissertations published in English and Persian languages in 2004-2017. The final included articles (n = 64) were reviewed, selected and analysed by group discussions.RESULTS: The results of analysing 64 included articles for this systematised review specified that the evaluation of digital libraries is mostly focused on the service quality aspect, and DigiQual was the most frequently used model. Few studies have evaluated digital libraries in the health sector. The researcher developed questionnaire is the most frequently used method to evaluate digital libraries.CONCLUSION: Because there are fewer studies of digital libraries evaluation in the health sector, the specific features of health digital libraries should be addressed by librarians and health digital library designers to develop specific models.

Abstract:Manuscript type: Literature review Research aims: This study aims to identify research trends in theoretical models of financial literacy in the Scopus database from 2013 to 2021. Future research can focus on the least-used variables in theoretical models of financial literacy. Design/Methodology/Approach: Seventy-three articles using theoretical models of financial literacy are discussed in this study. This paper uses bibliometric analysis to visualise the bibliographic coupling, co-citation, and co-occurrence of keywords. Research findings: An increasing number of articles on financial literacy models have been published in the Scopus database, suggesting a growing interest in theoretical models of financial literacy and financial literacy knowledge. Performance, competitive advantage and business experience are increasingly being used as variables, indicating an opportunity to further investigate financial literacy models. Theoretical contribution/Originality: This study is the first to investigate theoretical models of financial literacy using bibliometric analysis and a literature review. This study focuses on articles published between 2013 to 2021. Practitioner/Policy implication: This study is important because it connects previous and more recent studies, identifies gaps in understanding, and suggests new ways to study theoretical models of financial literacy. Research limitations/Implications: The material used in this study was only taken from the Scopus database. Therefore, further research needs to be done by including indexing and other databases.

Abstract:As the concept and implementation of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning has become relevant, academics, researchers and information professionals involve research in this area. The objective of this systematic literature review is to provide a synthesis of empirical studies exploring application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in libraries. To achieve the objectives of the study, a systematic literature review was conducted based on the original guidelines proposed by Kitchenham et al. (2009). Data was collected from Web of Science, Scopus, LISA and LISTA databases. Following the rigorous/ established selection process, a total of thirty-two articles were finally selected, reviewed and analyzed to summarize on the application of AI and ML domain and techniques which are most often used in libraries. Findings show that the current state of the AI and ML research that is relevant with the LIS domain mainly focuses on theoretical works. However, some researchers also emphasized on implementation projects or case studies. This study will provide a panoramic view of AI and ML in libraries for researchers, practitioners and educators for furthering the more technology-oriented approaches, and anticipating future innovation pathways.

Abstract:Background and aims: The rapid growth and specialization in Medical Sciences increase the volume of information and therefore make physician problems and difficulty to access reliable information. Physicians can`t decide only according to self-knowledge, and should refer to the new texts and references. Clinical librarian role as a key chain in evidence-based medicine can`t be ignored. Clinical librarian at the hospital library works as a specialist and come to help physicians to carry out evidence-based medicine process in the shortest time and with the least effort. The aim of this study was clarify status and importance of the clinical librarian in the process of evidence-based medicine. Methods: This was a systematic study. Electronic databases such as clinical key, Medline, Embase, Cochrane, Conference proceedings & abstract books, Hand searching, raw data from published trials and thesis were analyzed by keywords: medical librarian, clinical librarianship and informationist. The period which gather information was from 2000–2015 and 112 articles selected, finally 65 were chosen to considered according to inclusion criteria includes the role of medical librarian and article in English and Persian. Results: Clinical librarian Provide filtered information to clinician at the point of need to promote evidence-based health care. Moreover, overcome the time, cost and expertise barriers that clinicians face when they attempt to incorporate the best current evidence from the literature into their patient care decisions, enhance the educational experience of students and resident physicians in training. The position is helping physicians to make decisions based on evidence and access to reliable information is not well understood in our country. Evidence-Based Medicine and librarian in the modern era needs the help their. Conclusion: In the health sector, especially in hospital library, clinical librarian position in evidence-based practice is not well established and many studies must be done in this area in the future. Dissertation thesis will be done and Policies should be considered in this area. Clinical librarian in hospital libraries can be used as a key element in the process of evidence-based medicine.

Themes in Health Sciences Librarianship Literature, 2016-2020: A Keyword and Subject Analysis

Abstract:Previous investigations into trends in Library and Information Science literature have revealed changes in the topics librarians publish on over time, with older studies highlighting classification and indexing, and information retrieval and more recent studies highlighting keywords such as Internet, information technology, digital libraries, and again, information retrieval. No similar investigation has been conducted on current publication trends by health sciences librarians. This study analyzes the top themes on which health sciences librarians published from 2016 to 2020 by examining the frequency of keywords. Keywords and subject headings were analyzed from The Journal of the Medical Library Association, Medical References Services Quarterly, The Journal of Hospital Librarianship, and The Journal of Electronic Resources in Medical Libraries. A total of 8,806 keywords were downloaded for analysis and organized into 292 categories during taxonomy creation. The ten most frequent themes were: libraries, information, education, humans, demography, librarian, geographical locations, research, electronic resources, and technology. The study also found that data, psychiatry and psychology, informatics, and publishing were other key themes, indicating that health sciences librarians are publishing on a wide range of topics. Some keywords that appeared only once, such as telecommuting and flexible staffing, suggest emerging areas of research for librarians.
Mixed Methods Research in Library and Information Science: A Methodological Review

Abstract:Abstract Objective - To review mixed methods research trends in the field of library and information science (LIS). In particular, we examine the extent to which research about or using mixed methods has been occurring in library and information science over the past decade (2008-2018), and how much of that mixed methods research is done in health contexts. Methods - We conducted a methodological review and analysis of mixed methods research (MMR) in LIS for published articles indexed in LISTA and Web of Science. After deduplication and verification for inclusion, we coded 417 articles to identify contributions using or about MMR. Given the connections between evidence based practice in health and LIS, we also identified whether articles about or using mixed methods were health-focused. Results - We found MMR to be a tiny proportion (less than 0.5%) of the overall LIS research literature. In terms of observable trends, while contributions about MMR remain fairly static, there has been an increase in articles using mixed methods. Of the 417 included articles, 373 (89.5%) primarily used mixed methods and 44 (10.5%) were primarily about MMR. Results also demonstrated that health-related research both using and about mixed methods has a strong presence in the LIS literature, with 136 published articles (32.6% of the total). Conclusion - Confirming findings of prior analyses of research methods in LIS, our methodological review shows current opportunities to adopt and expand the use of mixed methods research processes. Further contributions about mixed methods research, and ideally connecting research and practice in LIS, are needed. Despite the small proportion of MMR in LIS research, there is an observable increase in the number of publications using mixed methods during this timeframe. The LIS research community can promote additional growth by leveraging this momentum around using mixed methods, and look to translate lessons learned about mixed methods research and practice in health contexts to other LIS settings. Recommendations include developing educational opportunities and learning resources that facilitate wider engagement with MMR in LIS contexts.

ASLIB Proceedings: New Information Perspectives, 62(3), 261-282. https://doi.org/10.1108/00012531011046907 Abstract Objective – To describe the published literature on information literacy from 1999-2009. Design – Statistical descriptive analysis and content analysis. Setting – N/A Subjects – 1,970 publications from the Web of Science database. Methods – The Web of Science database was searched using the term “information literacy” in the advanced search under “topic,” and was limited to articles published from 1999-2009. Next, information such as document type, subject areas, authors, source titles, publication years, languages, countries, keywords, and abstracts was collected from each document. A statistical descriptive analysis was conducted using the data. A content analysis was performed on the keywords and abstracts from a sampling of the results. Main Results – Information science/library science and education were the top subject areas of the identified articles, while the third largest subject area was “public, environmental and occupational health.” Nine out of ten journal titles focused on library science, however the journal title containing the second largest number of articles was Patient Education and Counseling. The content analysis revealed that the most common categories for keywords were “miscellaneous,” “health and medicine,” followed by “education.” Conclusion – The results indicated that information literacy research had been published mainly in journals associated with library science and education; however, a considerable amount of literature was published in health and medicine.

Abstract:Background: The presence of medical librarians in the patient education team can greatly facilitate the patient education process. Expanding the role of medical librarians in patient education and using them in this process requires understanding the roles and services they can provide. This scoping review aims to identify different traditional and modern services and roles that medical librarians provide specifically in the patient education process. Materials and methods: A scoping review protocol is reported, according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols statement and guided by The Joanna Briggs Institute. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and LISTA (Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts) will be searched. A grey literature search and hand-searching of citations and reference lists of the included studies will also be undertaken. Studies with their full text are not available and are in languages other than English will be excluded. Two independent reviewers will screen titles/abstracts and full text of retrieved articles and eligibility disagreements within a pair will resolve by discussion or a third reviewer. Data charting will be done in accordance with the data extraction tool made in Excel. Findings will be presented as a narrative summary supported by tables and diagrams. Conclusions: Identifying the different services that medical librarians provide in the patient education process leads medical librarians to inform about the different services they can provide in the patient education process and to expand their roles as well as policymakers and hospital managers to be aware of these roles and use medical librarians in the patient education process appropriately. It also helps the general public and patients to learn about the services that medical librarians can provide them in this process.

Abstract:Clinical information retrieval (IR) plays a vital role in modern healthcare by facilitating efficient access and analysis of medical literature for clinicians and researchers. This scoping review aims to offer a comprehensive overview of the current state of clinical IR research and identify gaps and potential opportunities for future studies in this field. The main objective was to assess and analyze the existing literature on clinical IR, focusing on the methods, techniques, and tools employed for effective retrieval and analysis of medical information. Adhering to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted an extensive search across databases such as Ovid Embase, Ovid Medline, Scopus, ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, and Web of Science, covering publications from January 1, 2010, to January 4, 2023. The rigorous screening process led to the inclusion of 184 papers in our review. Our findings provide a detailed analysis of the clinical IR research landscape, covering aspects like publication trends, data sources, methodologies, evaluation metrics, and applications. The review identifies key research gaps in clinical IR methods such as indexing, ranking, and query expansion, offering insights and opportunities for future studies in clinical IR, thus serving as a guiding framework for upcoming research efforts in this rapidly evolving field. The study also underscores an imperative for innovative research on advanced clinical IR systems capable of fast semantic vector search and adoption of neural IR techniques for effective retrieval of information from unstructured electronic health records (EHRs).

Abstract:Using research papers of WoS database as the data source, the present paper adopts the method of Documents Co-citation Analysis, and employs the tool of CiteSpace to analyze the theme, evolution and research trend of Library and Information Science (LIS) research in the recent 30 years from 1989 to 2018. The findings demonstrate that (1) research on LIS develops along the path from the ordering of information to the digging and application of information value. And in this process, the factor of "people" and the network information resources have been receiving more and more attentions; (2) over the past 30 years, research on LIS has mainly focused on areas such as information retrieval, social media, information system, information behavior, bibliometrics and webometrics, scientific evaluation and knowledge management; and (3) in the future, LIS research will mainly focus on six theme areas: metrology research, open government, scientific evaluation, big data, social media and information system. These six areas are all significantly affected by social media.

Assessing the impact of history of medicine research: A scientometric and altmetric analysis

Abstract:Background and aims: After conducting a comprehensive literature search of two medical electronic databases, PubMed and Embase, as well as two citation databases, Web of Science Core Collections (WoS) and Scopus, we aimed to conduct an Altmetric and Scientometric analysis of the History of Medicine literature in medical research. Methods: The following software tools were used for analyzing the retrieved records from PubMed and Embase databases and conducting a collaboration analysis to identify the countries involved in scientific medical papers, as well as clustering keywords to reveal the trend of History of Medicine research for the future. These software tools (VOSviewer 1.6.18 and Spss 16) allowed the researchers to visualize bibliometric networks, perform statistical analysis, and identify patterns and trends in the data. Results: Our analysis revealed 53,771 records from PubMed and 54,405 records from EMBASE databases retrieved in the field of History of Medicine by 105,286 contributed authors in WoS. We identified 157 countries that collaborated on scientific medical papers. By clustering 59,995 keywords, we were able to reveal the trend of History of Medicine research for the future. Our findings showed a positive association between traditional bibliometrics and social media metrics such as the Altmetric Attention Score in the History of Medicine literature (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Sharing research findings of articles in social scientific networks will increase the visibility of scientific works in History of Medicine research, which is one of the most important factors influencing the citation of articles. Additionally, our overview of the literature in the medical field allowed us to identify and examine gaps in the History of Medicine research.

Abstract:Journal of Information Science, Ahead of Print. This study uses the scientometric method to analyse the literature to summarise the development overview and research hotspots in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS), aiming at sorting out the knowledge structure of the discipline and providing references and information for deepening its research and development. This article takes 85 Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) journals in the field of LIS as the research object, from which 116,570 articles from 1900 to 2023 are collected as the basis of data analysis. It employs the scientometric method based on visualisation software to analyse four dimensions of the LIS discipline: annual publications, journal outputs distribution, production and cooperation, and present focus and research hotspots, finding that the overall development of the discipline is stable and shows some new topics.

Abstract:Purpose This study aims to reveal the topic structure and evolutionary trends of health informatics research in library and information science. Design/methodology/approach Using publications in Web of Science core collection, this study combines informetrics and content analysis to reveal the topic structure and evolutionary trends of health informatics research in library and information science. The analyses are conducted by Pajek, VOSviewer and Gephi. Findings The health informatics research in library and information science can be divided into five subcommunities: health information needs and seeking behavior, application of bibliometrics in medicine, health information literacy, health information in social media and electronic health records. Research on health information literacy and health information in social media is the core of research. Most topics had a clear and continuous evolutionary venation. In the future, health information literacy and health information in social media will tend to be the mainstream. There is room for systematic development of research on health information needs and seeking behavior. Originality/value To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to analyze the topic structure and evolutionary trends of health informatics research based on the perspective of library and information science. This study helps identify the concerns and contributions of library and information science to health informatics research and provides compelling evidence for researchers to understand the current state of research.

Implications of Publication Requirements for the Research Output of Arab Academics of Library and Information Science in Scopus in 2011– 2022 (Bibliometric Study)

Abstract:The Arab can be considered as a new emergent region in the world by using advanced bibliometric methods, the development of science and technology in Unsure is explored. Purpose: This article explores the implications of publication requirements for the research output of Arab academics of library and information science in Scopus, and reviews (12) years of Library and information science research in the Arab World affiliated with the (22) countries of the Arab League: a bibliometric study 2011–2022. As such it contributes to the existing body of knowledge on quantitative and qualitative effects of research evaluation policies. Design/methodology/approach: Three metrics were chosen to analyses the implications of publication requirements for the quality of research output: publications in predatory journals, publications in local journals and publications per SNIP quartile from the disciplinary perspective. Findings: Study results highlight, that: Firstly: publications of Arab academics of library and information science in predatory journals rose to (12.162 % in 2011-2013) – (39.190 in 2020-2022). Secondly: the share of publications in local journals reached the Peak of fourth period 44.595% in 2020-2022. Thirdly: though the total number of publications has risen dramatically since 2011, but the share of Q3+Q4 has exceeded the share of Q1+Q2. Summaries: the study findings highlight, that research evaluation policies are required to contain not only quantitative but also qualitative criteria. Research limitation: The study does not explore in detail the effects of a particular type of publication requirements. Practical implications: The findings of the study have practical implications for policymakers and university managers aimed to develop research evaluation policies. Originality/value: This paper gains insights into the effects of publication requirements on the research output of Arab academics of library and information science in Scopus & local journals.

Abstract:Nowadays, the worlds scientific community has been publishing an enormous number of papers in different scientific fields. In such environment, it is essential to know which databases are equally efficient and objective for literature searches. It seems that two most extensive databases are Web of Science and Scopus. Besides searching the literature, these two databases used to rank journals in terms of their productivity and the total citations received to indicate the journals impact, prestige or influence. This article attempts to provide a comprehensive comparison of these databases to answer frequent questions which researchers ask, such as: How Web of Science and Scopus are different? In which aspects these two databases are similar? Or, if the researchers are forced to choose one of them, which one should they prefer? For answering these questions, these two databases will be compared based on their qualitative and quantitative characteristics.

Abstract:This article highlights the research productivity and scholarly communication of library and information science professionals during 2003–2012 by using Web of Science databases from 40 library and information science core journals. Data was interpreted by using two open-source software Vantage point (powerful text-mining tool for discovering meaningful result from raw data) and CiteSpace II to visualize the library and information science growth and trends. Underlying results indicated that mainstream of authors (12,847, 69.9%) published their article as a single author from 2003–2009, this trend has declined and collaborative number of publications trend has inclined during the last 3 years. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign produced 95 (0.52%) of the total publications and stands at the leading position. The maximum number of publications was carried out by universities rather than non-academic institutions. This article identified that Asian countries, such as China, Taiwan, India, and Iran, are still in its infancy stage. The present study could be considered as a useful tool for effective allocation of research funds in the research community and academic world of library and information science to enhance the research process.

Abstract:The objective of this scoping review was to survey the literature on the use of AI/ML applications in analyzing inpatient EHR data to identify bundles of care (groupings of interventions). If evidence suggested AI/ML models could determine bundles, the review aimed to explore whether implementing these interventions as bundles reduced practice pattern variance and positively impacted patient care outcomes for inpatients with T2DM. Six databases were searched for articles published from January 1, 2000, to January 1, 2024. Nine studies met criteria and were summarized by aims, outcome measures, clinical or practice implications, AI/ML model types, study variables, and AI/ML model outcomes. A variety of AI/ML models were used. Multiple data sources were leveraged to train the models, resulting in varying impacts on practice patterns and outcomes. Studies included aims across 4 thematic areas to address: therapeutic patterns of care, analysis of treatment pathways and their constraints, dashboard development for clinical decision support, and medication optimization and prescription pattern mining. Multiple disparate data sources (i.e., prescription payment data) were leveraged outside of those traditionally available within EHR databases. Notably missing was the use of holistic multidisciplinary data (i.e., nursing and ancillary) to train AI/ML models. AI/ML can assist in identifying the appropriateness of specific interventions to manage diabetic care and support adherence to efficacious treatment pathways if the appropriate data are incorporated into AI/ML design. Additional data sources beyond the EHR are needed to provide more complete data to develop AI/ML models that effectively discern meaningful clinical patterns. Further study is needed to better address nursing care using AI/ML to support effective inpatient diabetes management.

The dynamics of research subfields for library and information science: an investigation based on word bibliographic coupling

Abstract:Uncovering research topics, manifesting the relationships, and revealing the structure in a discipline are major and important research issues in library and information science (LIS). To understand the evolution of research subfields in LIS during two periods, 2009 to 2013 and 2014 to 2018, this study proposes and applies a novel method, word bibliographic coupling, to measure the relationships between different feature words extracted from 21,066 research articles published in 44 LIS journals. According to the results of factor analysis, the top 25 subfields are identified for each period. The results show that core research subfields in LIS remain relatively stable, but new subfields replaced old ones due to the change of society or the development of technology. The subfields identified in this study can be further categorized into six main research trends, including Scholarly Communication and Scientometrics, Information Behavior and Information Retrieval, Applications of Technology, Library Services and Management, Health Information and Technology, and Computer Science Techniques. Most subfields related to the same research trend correlated to each other, but the subfields of Library Services and Management scatter over the networks. This study depicts the recent development of research subfields and significant research trends in LIS.
