Abstract:The phenomenon of bioconvection in nanofluid flows represents a significant interdisciplinary research area that combines fluid dynamics, biotechnology, and nanotechnology. Understanding the interplay between biological organisms and nanoparticle-laden fluids is crucial for various applications in engineering, medicine, and environmental science. This study aims to scrutinize the production of entropy in bioconvective Sutterby nanomaterial flow over porous rotating disk. Impacts of surface roughness and Lorentz force are considered in relation to momentum. Mathematical expressions for energy and mass concentration are developed accounting Brownian and thermophoretic features of nanoparticles. Effects of thermal radiation and internal fluid friction are further measured in the thermal transport equation. Boundary layer norms are considered throughout modeling. PDEs demonstrating the flow are altered into ODEs via transformations. The numerical scheme Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg(RKF-45) is implemented via NDSolve code in Mathematica. The impacts of dominant parameters of flow on velocity, motile density, concentration, temperature, Bejan number, and irreversibility are deliberated. Physical quantities are studied numerically through tables. Results reveal that for larger magnetic and surface porosity variables velocity diminishes. The thermal field escalates for greater magnetic variable while it declines for higher Prandtl number. Entropy enhances for up surging values of radiation, diffusion, and Brinkman variables.

Abstract:Abstract Our main intension behind this work is to investigate Prandtl-Eyring nanomaterial in presence of gyrotactic microorganisms. Flow is generated via stretching sheet and is subject to melting heat effect. Radiation and dissipation are addressed. Entropy rate is also reported. Nanofluid effects are explored through Buongiorno model for nanofluid by considering Brownian motion and thermophoresis impacts. Problem related modelling is done by obtaining PDEs and these PDEs are then transmitted into ODEs by using appropriate similarity variables. Homotopic technique has been employed to obtain a convergent series solution of the considered problem. Graphical results have been presented to investigate the impact of different prominent variables over fluid velocity, temperature distribution, nanofluid concentration and on microorganism concentration. Entropy analysis has been discussed and the physical quantities such as surface drag force, Nusselt number, local Sherwood number and microorganism density number for the current problem is obtained. Velocity boost against higher melting and fluid parameters. Temperature of the fluid reduces with an increment in melting and radiation parameters while it intensifies through Prandtl and Eckert number, Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters. Decay in concentration is noticed against higher values of melting and thermophoresis parameters while it increases for higher Schmidt number and Brownian motion parameter. Microorganism field boosts with higher values of Peclet number and microorganism concentration difference parameter. Moreover entropy generation rate intensifies against higher radiation parameter and Brickman number.

Abstract:Entropy generation (EG) in bioconvective nanofluid flows is a phenomenon that occurs due to the presence of nanoparticles and microorganisms within fluid flows. EG leads to an increase in thermodynamic irreversibility within the system. Understanding and quantifying EG in nanofluid flows is essential to optimize heat transfer processes and design efficient systems. Current investigation aims to analyze the irreversibility of the magnetized bioconvective flow of non-Newtonian micropolar type nanofluid. Flow features are modeled considering flow by a Darcy Forchheimer permeable surface of a stretched sheet. Phenomenon of bioconvection in a micropolar fluid is considered to regulate the solid tiny particles. Magnetic field and permeability effects are accounted in momentum relation. Energy relation is constructed in the presence of Joule heating, internal fluid friction, and thermal radiation. Mass concentration equation is formulated by accounting Arrhenius kinetics and binary chemical reaction. Furthermore, the buoyancy effects of solid tiny particles are considered in thermal and concentration relations. Total entropy of the considered flow is modeled using the second thermodynamics law. System of dimensional equations representing the flow is obtained with the implementation of boundary layer approximations. The acquired system is altered into an ordinary one through transformations and then tackled by numerical scheme Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method (RKF-45) in the Mathematica package. Behavior of velocity, thermal field, entropy production, mass concentration, motile density, and Bejan number versus sundry variables is investigated through plots. Skin friction, local heat, mass, and density rates are numerically examined. Thermal field upsurges and velocity field decays versus higher Hartmann number. Entropy generation improved versus higher Brinkman number, microorganisms diffusion variable, and temperature difference ratio variable.

Abstract:A nanofluid is a fluid containing particles with less than a nanometer diameter. These particles are referred to as nanoparticles dispersed in a base fluid. The viscoelastic Oldroyd-B nanofluid flow past a vertical stretching sheet with swimming gyrotactic microorganisms is investigated in this present analysis. Lorentz force characteristics are considered because the magnetic field is applied normally to the sheet. Viscous dissipation, Joule heating, and chemical reaction are combined inside the system. The resulting equations are converted into the dimensionless form using similar improvement and then explained by the bvp4c procedure. The effect of associated parameters on velocity, temperature, motile density profiles, and nanoparticle volume fraction has been reflected through physical justification over tables and graphs. Statistical analysis is applied to disclose the association of parameters with the physical characters. The temperature rises due to managing relaxing time in the current investigation. When the chemical destructive response rate increases, a constructive chemical reaction increases species concentration considerably; however, the species concentration drops when the reaction rate increases. The current and potential applications of bioconvection renewed the drive for theoretical research on synthesis and process control in biofuel cells and bioreactors.

Abstract:The main objective of this research paper is to scrutinize the entropy generation(EG) in the bioconvective flow of micropolar fluid by porous surface of a stretched sheet. Mixed convection effects are considered. Thermal radiation, internal fluid friction, Joule heating, and heat generation aspects are accounted for in the energy relation. Mass concentration relation is developed because of the binary chemical reactions associated with Arrhenius kinetics. The governing equations for the micropolar fluid are developed based on Buongiorno's model with the help of boundary layer restrictions. By invoking the transformation procedure, dimensional model is made dimensionless. The well-known shooting technique RKF-45 in Mathematica software is implemented to solve the transformed equations. Performance of micropolar fluid velocities, thermal field, entropy generation, mass concentration, Bejan number, and motile density versus influential variables are highlighted. Furthermore, the intensity of skin friction, Nusselt quantity, motile density, and Sherwood number is computed and analyzed. It is observed that the rate of EG improves while the Bejan number diminishes versus higher Brinkman number, and diffusion parameter due to gyrotactic microorganisms. Magnitude of heat transfer rate boosts through higher Γ , Qs , Ec , Ha and Rd at an average percentage of 44, 82, 189, 156 respectively.

Abstract:The present paper deals with the behavior of gyrotactic microorganisms in nanofluid affected by the magnetic field and porous medium. The advantage of adding motile microorganism is to stabilize the nanoparticle suspension generated by the combined effects of buoyancy force and magnetic field. Gyrotactic microorganisms enhanced the heat transfer, mass transfer and improve the stability of the nanofluids. The mathematical model includes the equations of conservation of mass, momentum, energy, nanoparticle concentration and microorganism equations. The governing equations have been fabricated for long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations. The solutions have been evaluated for pressure gradient, nanoparticle concentration, temperature and motile microorganism equations are solved by using a powerful technique known as the homotopy analysis method. Effects of physical parameters like a fluid parameter, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, bioconvection Peclet number, Hartmann number and Grashof number are considered. Obtained results are displayed in graphs. The results reveal that bioconvection decreases the pressure gradient because convection instability takes place within the system that causes convection pattern which decreases the pressure gradient. Such result helps in biomedical sciences and engineering. Since, microorganisms are favorable in the decomposition of organic material, producing oxygen and maintaining human health.

Abstract:Bioconvection in magneto-nanoliquid embedded with gyrotactic microorganisms across an elongated sheet with velocity slip of second order is addressed. Nonlinear thermal radiation and chemical reaction aspects are retained in energy and concentration equations. Numerical simulations for the modeled problem are proposed via Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg-based shooting technique. Special attention is given to the impact of involved parameters on the profiles of motile microorganisms, nanoparticle volume fraction, temperature and velocity. Our simulations figured out that assisting flow generates more heat transfer than the opposing flow situation. The motile microorganism’s boundary layer decayed for higher bioconvection Peclet and bioconvection Lewis numbers.

Abstract:The present article centers on the examination of novel bioconvection phenomena involving gyrotactic microorganisms and a micropolar nanofluid model with hydro-magnetic flow. The flow traversed a stretchable inclined plate within the permeable medium. Heat absorption and thermal radiation are considered. The objective of this study is to assess the rate of heat transfer exhibited by nanofluid when unicellular microorganisms are present. Mathematical complex flow model is converted to nonlinear dimensional less system of differential equation through adopting the appropriate similarity variables. For the non-linear nanofluid problem, the (FDM) finite difference method (Lobatto IIIA) is applied with a range of collocation sites and an accuracy of order 4 to 5. (Lobatto IIIA) excels in solving coupled differential equations, even those with high nonlinearities. Nanofluid containing gyrotactic microbes is highly applicable in bioscience, geoscience and eco science. The effects of dimensional less parameters on flow field, energy distribution, nanofluid concentration and density of microorganism concentration profiles analyzed through the graphical and tabulation representation. This basic research will aid scientists and engineers in controlling fluid flow and improving complex systems that make use of it.

Abstract:The principal aim of this paper is to analyse the two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic flow and heat and mass transfer phenomena of water-based nanofluid containing gyrotactic microorganisms over a vertical plate by means of heat generation or absorption. Set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations are derived from the governing partial differential equations of the two-dimensional flow of MHD nanofluid and nanoparticles by utilizing appropriate similarity transformations. The numerical results are obtained with the proposed novel spectral relaxation method. The results revealed that in the heat and mass transfer, the motile microorganism flux rates as well as the velocity profiles are decreased throughout the fluid medium with the impact of magnetic field strength. Moreover, the drag stress rate and motile microorganism profiles are increased with the enhancement of magnetic field. Even though the problem of nanofluid has been broadly investigated, limited discoveries can be found through a gyrotactic microorganisms. Indeed, this paper managed to obtain the numerical analysis is performed. Furthermore, the authors also considered the MHD phenomena, heat generation or absorption effects. Very few studies in the fluid with gyrotactic microorganisms embedded in this parameter in their problems.

Abstract:Abstract The current research work scrutinizes the bioconvection of nanofluid flow through an expanding sheet containing motile microorganisms with the mutual upshot of heat and mass transmission. Additionally, the convective and slip boundary conditions are also considered. The study is explored under the response of Joule heating, viscous dissipation, and magnetic strength. We used appropriate transformation methods for reducing a set of PDEs to nonlinear ODEs which were further corroborated by the ‘Homotopy Analysis Method’. The assessment is carried out for the numerous values of dissimilar parameters on the velocity and heat transmission profile with the inclusion of the density of motile microorganisms. It has been perceived that the rising trend in the magnetic field reduces the Nusselt number and the velocity near the stretch sheet of the fluid. The motile microorganisms profile displays a lessening behavior for rising values of Peclet number.

Abstract:Abstract This research delves into dynamics of magnetohydrodynamic second-grade fluid flow influenced by the presence of gyrotactic microorganisms on a stretching sheet. The study takes into account various factors such as thermal radiation, chemical reactivity, and activation energy, all of which contribute to the complex behavior of fluid flow in this system. The interaction between the magnetic field and the fluid, combined with the biological aspect introduced by gyrotactic microorganisms, adds complexity to the overall analysis. The mathematical model is presented in the form of partial differential equations (PDE)s. Using the similarity variables, the modeled PDEs are transformed into ordinary differential equations. Homotopy analysis method is used for the solution of the modeled equations. After a detailed insight into this investigation, it is established that the velocity distribution declined for growth in magnetic factor and second-grade fluid parameter. The thermal characteristics are augmented for the greater values of radiation, thermophoretic and Brownian motion factors, while these profiles are weakened for upsurge in thermal relaxation time factor and Prandtl number. The concentration characteristics declined with the enhancement in Schmidt number, mass relaxation time, chemical reaction, and Brownian motion factors, while they amplified with enhancement in activation energy and thermophoresis factors. The microorganisms’ profiles are the declining functions of bioconvection Lewis and Peclet numbers. This study included a comparative analysis, which aligns closely with existing research, demonstrating a strong concordance with established findings.

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering, Ahead of Print. The goal of this research is to inspect the heat and mass transfer trends and entropy generation in a time-reliant stagnation point stream of a micropolar fluid across an inclined stretched surface. For this objective, a chemically reactive, electrically conducting fluid exposed to an orthogonal magnetic field is studied. The flow governing equations are modelled using Buongiorno model and are reformed to a system of higher order ordinary differential equations by administering appropriate similarity transformations. This system is quantitatively examined by employing the fourth-order Runge-Kutta scheme with shooting approach. The effects of thermal radiation, magnetic field, uniform heat source/sink, Brownian motion, thermophoresis, activation energy, and binary chemical reaction are studied on velocity, microrotation, temperature, and concentration profiles. It is observed that magnetic field and Brownian motion elevate the flow temperature. Increased activation energy spikes the fluid concentration while increase in binary chemical reaction reduces the particle concentration. Later, impact of various parameters on skin friction coefficient and heat and mass transfer rates are tabularised. Increasing values of thermophoretic diffusion parameter, Brownian diffusion parameter, and chemical reaction parameter improve the rate of mass transfer. Unsteadiness parameter triggers the skin friction coefficient 53.2% when the parameter value was increased from 0.7 to 1.0. Viscous dissipation and thermal radiation increase the rate of entropy generation. A comparison of skin friction coefficient with previous studies demonstrates a strong agreement.

Abstract:Recent advances in simulating entropy generation for dissipative cross-materials with a quartic auto catalyst are reported. Entropy generation can be used to generate entropy in any irreversible heat transfer process, which is important in thermal machines. This study examines the impact of entropy generation on the thermal transport and momentum of a continuous two-dimensional dusty fluid magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) migration across an inclined stretched sheet. We also conducted an entropy generation study to discuss the effects of viscous dissipation, the volume proportion of dust particles, and mixed convection. The two-phase models that address the fluid phase and the solid phase have been discussed. As part of the flow model's innovation, the effect of raising particulate matter concentration on the dynamic behavior of the fluid is investigated. The described model transforms the prevailing partial differential equations (PDEs) for two phases into a nonlinearly associated, nondimensional set of equations by implementing appropriate similarity alterations. For graphical results, MATLAB programming incorporates the bvp4c mechanism. This study indicates how to examine the impact of appropriate factors on the dusty phase of fluid and the non-Newtonian fluid phase. Both the entropy generation (Egen) and the Bejan quantity ( Be ) are presented in relation to their associated dimensionless factors. Parametric research is used to evaluate the impact of different flow parameters on temperatures, entropy generation, and Bejan numbers. The heat transfer rate using several quadratic regression models, which provide more clarity in determining physical parameters crucial to engineering, is assessed. It is observed that the entropy (Egen) and Bejan number ( Be ) declines with the rising mass concentration (βν) of dusty particles. Also demonstrated that for both cases, increasing the magnetic influence and dust volume fraction ( ΦD ) resulted in a decrease in velocity profiles at the same time as temperature increased.

Thus, we are currently at a soft 100-year anniversary of the mixer, so it seems like a good time to look back at that technology to see how it arose. It's a good story.

Abstract:This work inspects entropy generation and heat transfer induced by a bioconvection slip flow of nonlinear radiative Carreau-Yasuda hybrid nanofluid (NF) over a convectively heated sphere. Activation energy for microbes is contemplated in order to comprehend its contribution toward flow features. The original partial differential equations (PDEs) are rendered non-dimensional through appropriate conversions, and the resulting PDEs are solved using the overlapping grid spectral collocation algorithm. The impact of diverse flow factors on flow profiles, entropy generation, skin friction, heat, mass, and motile microbes transport rates is analyzed. Key outcomes reveal that hybrid NF flow demonstrates a supplementary indispensable feature in the operation of heat transport compared to mono NF flow. More entropy is generated in the system by using the hybrid NF model along with magnetic field, heat source, convective heating, nonlinear radiation, and viscous dissipation. Thermal fields and rate of heat transport are improved by including nonlinear radiative heat flux in the system. Mass and motile microbes transport rates are respectively enhanced by chemical and microbial reactions, but both quantities are reduced by activation energy. The effects of microbial reactions on flow quantities substantiate the significance of these features for the dynamics of microorganisms. The findings of this study can be useful in the upsurge of thermal performance of the working fluid and contribute toward the improvement of microbial fuel cell performance.

Abstract:Background and objective: Nanoliquids are dilute suspensions of nanoparticles with at least one of their principal dimensions smaller than 100 nm. Form literature, nanoliquids have been found to possess increased thermos-physical characteristics like thermal diffusivity, thermal conductivity, convective heat transport coefficients and viscosity associated to those of continuous phase liquids foe example oil, ethylene glycol and water. Nanoliquids have novel characteristics that make them possibly beneficial in numerous applications in heat transport like fuel cells, microelectronics, hybrid-powered engines, pharmaceutical processes, domestic refrigerator, engine cooling thermal management, chiller and heat exchanger. The above applications of nanofluids/hybrid nanofluids insist the researchers and engineers to develop new methodologies and technique in the field of heat transport. Therefore, we have considered mixed convective flow hybrid nanomaterial over a convectively heated surface of disk. Flow nature is discussed due to stretchable rotating surface of disk. Applied magnetic field is accounted. Ohmic heating and dissipation effects are utilized in the modeling of energy expression. Total entropy rate is calculated. Methods: Suitable transformation leads to ordinary differential equations. Shooting method is implemented for numerical outcomes. Comparative analysis is made for the present result with published ones. Results: The effects of key parameters like magnetic parameter, mixed convection variable and Eckert and Biot numbers on the dimensionless velocity, surface drag force, temperature, (heat transfer rate) Nusselt number and entropy rate are discussed in detail and presented graphically. Furthermore, the outcomes demonstrate that velocity of liquid particles decline against magnetic parameter. Temperature and associated layer upsurge versus magnetic parameter and Eckert number. Skin friction coefficient (drag force) improves through higher values of stretching and magnetic variables. Heat transfer rate is more for higher Eckert number and magnetic parameter. Entropy rate is also enhances against Eckert number and Brickman number. Conclusions: Magnitude of surface drag force increases for higher values of stretching and magnetic variables. Magnitude of heat transfer rate is more when magnetic variable and Eckert number attain the maximum values. Brinkman number is used to decrease the entropy rate. Furthermore, velocity and temperature show contrast behavior versus magnetic parameter i.e., velocity of fluid particles decreases.

Abstract:Advances in Mechanical Engineering, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2024. The purpose of the present study is to analyse the entropy generation for the hybrid nanofluid mobilised by peristalsis. The hybrid nanoliquid is suspension of copper [math] and iron-oxide [math] nanoparticles in water. Impacts of magnetic field, Joule heating, mixed convection, heat source/sink and viscous dissipation are reckoned. Governing set of equations are simplified by using lubrication approach. Obtained system of differential equations are solved numerically. Special attention is paid to analyse the effects of hybrid nanomaterial, Hartman and Grashoff numbers on entropy generation, Bejan number, axial velocity, temperature, heat transmission rate at walls, pressure gradient, skin friction, Nusselt number. Flow behaviour is visualised through streamlines. The study reveals that velocity and temperature decrease on increasing the volume fraction of solid nanomaterials. Higher Grashoff and Hartman numbers augment both velocity and temperature. Better heat transfer performance is recorded for strong Hartman number. [math] and [math] improve Entropy generation and Bejan number. Higher Hartman number causes decrement in pressure gradient. Addition of nanoparticles concentration reduces skin friction. High flow rate increases trapping phenomenon.

Abstract:The major goal of this work is to analyze the entropy generation in a micropolar nanofluid's hydromagnetic stagnation point flow with the involvement of the catalytic and nonlinear thermal radiation effects. The magnetite nanoparticle Fe 3 O 4 is added to the water to form the Fe 3 O 4- water nanofluid. A vertical stretchable sheet is assumed to initiate the two-dimensional time-independent flow. The impacts of Joule heating and viscous dissipation are considered in the development of the governing equations of the concerned problem. An appropriate procedure of similarity transformations is implemented in the system of partial differential equations (PDE) to establish the nonlinear setup of ordinary differential equations (ODE). The behavior of various aspects of fluid such as micro-rotation, entropy generation, temperature, velocity, Bejan number, and concentration relative to the pertinent parameters is graphically revealed. The graphical nature of local Nusselt number and skin friction relative to the physical parameters is also exhibited in this analysis. This study concludes that the amplification in the magnetic field develops a minimization in the velocity field. The Bejan number shows the declining behavior corresponding to the larger quantities of the Brinkman number and Reynolds number, but the entropy of the system escalates for these parameters.

Abstract:Various industrial operations involve frequent heating and cooling of electrical systems. In such circumstances, the development of relevant thermal devices is of extreme importance. During the development of thermal devices, the second law of thermodynamics plays an important role by means of entropy generation. Entropy generation should be reduced significantly for the efficient performance of the devices. The current paper reports an analytical study on micropolar fluid with entropy generation over a stretching surface. The influence of various physical parameters on velocity profile, microrotation profile, and temperature profile is investigated graphically. The impact of thermal radiation, porous medium, magnetic field, and viscous dissipation are also analyzed. Moreover, entropy generation and Bejan number are also illustrated graphically. Furthermore, the governing equations are solved by using HAM and code in MATHEMATICA software. It is concluded from this study that velocity and micro-rotation profile are reduced for higher values of magnetic and vortex viscosity parameter, respectively. For larger values of Eckert number and thermal radiation parameters, Bejan number and entropy generation are increased, respectively. These findings are useful in petroleum industries and engineering designs.
