Abstract:The synthesis of the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposite was achieved through a facile hydrothermal method combined with in situ photodeposition. Subsequently, its efficacy in catalyzing the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation was systematically investigated. The Bi2MoO6 samples and the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites underwent comprehensive characterization using a suite of techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The analyses unveiled a homogeneous distribution of Ag nanoparticles on the surface of AgBr/Bi2MoO6, indicative of the successful formation of the composite. To assess the photocatalytic efficiency, the degradation of RhB under visible light irradiation was employed as a benchmark. Notably, the incorporation of Ag nanosheets, serving as electron mediators and Schottky barriers, facilitated efficient electron transfer between Bi2MoO6 and AgBr. Consequently, the photocatalytic activity of the ternary Z-type heterogeneous Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites surpassed that of the pure Bi2MoO6 and AgBr samples. Remarkably, under 12 min of visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of the Ag/AgBr/Bi2MoO6 nanocomposites reached an impressive 99.99 %.
Enhanced photocatalytic performance of BiOBr/NH 2 -MIL-125(Ti) composite for dye degradation under visible light.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered as suitable materials for various applications in the area of photocatalysis. On the other hand, 2D BiOBr materials are efficient for the photodegradation of organic dyes under visible light illumination. In this work, BiOBr/NH2-MIL-125(Ti) composite photocatalysts with different NH2-MIL-125(Ti) content were prepared by incorporating NH2-MIL-125(Ti) with BiOBr using a co-precipitation method. A series of characterizations confirmed the strong synergistic effect between BiOBr and NH2-MIL-125(Ti). In rhodamine B (RhB) degradation experiments, the composite photocatalyst with a mass percent of 7 wt% NH2-MIL-125(Ti) exhibited an improved photocatalytic activity compared to pristine BiOBr and NH2-MIL-125(Ti). Furthermore, the enhanced photocatalytic performance under visible light illumination could be attributed to the Ti3+-Ti4+ intervalence electron transfer and synergistic effect between NH2-MIL-125(Ti) and BiOBr, and also resulted in a separation efficiency of photo-generated electron-hole pairs during the photocatalytic reaction. This study can open up numerous opportunities for the development of various MOF-based visible light photocatalysts when combined with 2D bismuth oxyhalide materials for applications in environmental cleaning.
Rod-like Bi4O7 Decorated Bi2O2CO3 Plates: Facile Synthesis, Promoted Charge Separation, and Highly Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Contaminants

Abstract:In this manuscript, rod-like Bi4O7 decorated Bi2O2CO3 plates were fabricated for the first time. Compared with pristine Bi2O2CO3, the tight decoration of Bi4O7 over Bi2O2CO3 plates not only strengthened the visible light absorption, but also enhanced the separation efficiency of photo-generated carriers. As expected, the heterostructured Bi4O2/Bi2O2CO3 composites have exhibited highly promoted photocatalytic activities in decomposing Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light. The BOBC-2 sample displayed the best activity with a reaction rate constant of 0.0245 min(-1), which was 3.8 times higher than that of pure Bi4O7. Besides RhB, the Bi4O2/Bi2O2CO3 composites also displayed superior activity toward colorless contaminants with stable chemical structures, such as phenol, p-tert-butylphenol, and ophenylphenol. The activity enhancement should be ascribed to the proper energy levels of the materials and formation of heterojunction at their interfaces, which could facilitate the charge transfer and promote the separation efficiency. Following transient photocurrent response, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and photoluminescence emission tests all verified this. In addition, controlled experiments using various radical scavengers proved that center dot O-2(-) and h(+) played the chief role in decomposing organic pollutants. Abstract:BiOCl nanosheets with adjustable shape were fabricated by a facile solvothermal method and the photodegradation property towards RhB was further studied. Batch experiments suggest that the BiOCl synthesized using CTAB (BOC-CTAB) as an additive presents the top-flight photoactivity with ca. 99% of removal rate within 20 min under visible light and shows outstanding recyclability and photostability after 3 cycles. The enormous improvement of degradation rate can be ascribed to enhanced visible-light response, narrow band gap and rapid separation rate of charge carriers. Moreover, the trapping tests suggest that the superoxide radical anions (·O2-) are critical reactive oxidation species to boost the photoactivity. This study indicates that the BOC-CTAB can be considered as an exceptional visible-light-driven photocatalyst used in relative environment remediation.

Abstract:The contamination of water resources by organic pollutants presents significant environmental and health challenges. Therefore, it is urgent to develop highly efficient and green approach for treating organic water pollutants. Bismuth oxybromide (BiOBr) has gained attention due to its high photoactivity. In this work, we report a modification to improve its photocatalytic activity. BiOBr were prepared using a capping agent, benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid, to tune the morphology of the compound. The resulting BiOBr shows nanosheet morphology, which provides a high surface-to-volume ratio and a larger conduction band compared to bulk BiOBr. As a result, the BiOBr nanosheets show the highest efficiency for photodegradation of Rhodamine B, compared to benchmark TiO2 and bulk BiOBr catalysts.

Abstract:BiOBr has garnered significant attention for photocatalysis owing to its distinctive layered structure. Nevertheless, it is full of challenges to synthesize high-quality BiOBr nanosheets by a simple room-temperature strategy due to the rapid chemical reaction between (Bi 2 O 2 ) 2+ cations and Br - anions. Herein, a Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 conversion strategy is proposed to fabricate BiOBr nanosheets with highly exposed (001) facets. BiOBr nanoclusters can grow on the surface of Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 during the hydrolysis process, which can prevent further corrosion of Cs 3 Bi 2 Br 9 , resulting in a sluggish BiOBr formation rate. During the conversion process, atom rearrangement occurs, leading to the creation of abundant oxygen vacancies. Furthermore, through precise adjustment of the amount of Cs, we can finely modulate the width and thickness of BiOBr nanosheets. As a result, the optimal sample achieves complete photodegradation of rhodamine B under 12.5 min of light irradiation. Utilizing this facile and convenient preparation method, an ohmic heterojunction comprising MXene and BiOBr has been synthesized, effectively promoting the separation of photogenerated carriers. Excitingly, the fabricated BiOBr/MXene exhibits higher photocatalytic efficiency than the single BiOBr, which can degrade rhodamine B within 7.5 min.

Abstract:BiOI/BiOBr composite visible photocatalyst was prepared via hydrothermal method using inorganic materials, and characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra and transient photocurrent response curve for the phase composition and optical property.Taking rhodamine B (RhB) as the target pollutant, the photocatalytic activity and stability of photocatalysts were studied under visible light irradiation.Furthermore, the mechanism in the process of photocatalytic degradation was discussed by electron spin resonance spectroscopy analysis and the trapping experiment of generated radicals.The results show that BiOI/BiOBr composite photocatalyst prepared by hydrothermal method using inorganic materials own high purity and excellent crystallization performance.Composited by BiOI, BiOBr exhibits higher photocatalytic activity considerably by reducing the rate of electron-hole recombination and broadening the range of visible-light response.Among the prepared composites with various BiOI contents, 8% BiOI/BiOBr exhibits the best efficiency in the degradation of RhB.After irradiation for 21 min, the degradation rate of RhB is 100%, which is 1.5 times of pure BiOBr.After 5 times recycle, it also shows high photocatalytic activity.The results also suggest that holes and ·O-2 are the main reactive species in the photocatalytic process of the RhB degradation.
Heterojunctions Based on BiOBr Nanosheets Decorated on α-Bi 2 O 3 for Photodegradation of Rhodamine B

Abstract:Photocatalysis is extensively implemented in organic pollutant degradation, and the critical point is to develop outstanding and stable photocatalysts. Herein, the synthesis of coral reef-like α-Bi2O3/BiOBr heterostructure photocatalysts involves the in situ growth of BiOBr nanosheets onto α-Bi2O3, with the latter derived through calcination utilizing a bismuth-based metal–organic framework (CAU-17) as the precursor. Under simulated sunlight, the 20% α-Bi2O3/BiOBr heterojunction degraded nearly 97.7% of RhB in 60 min, while pure α-Bi2O3 and BiOBr nanosheets degraded only 7.8 and 65.3%, respectively. Furthermore, the 20% α-Bi2O3/BiOBr nanocomposite exhibited superior recycling stability, degrading 86.6% RhB after four cyclic experiments. This is attributed to the fact that the nanoscale α-Bi2O3 material obtained by calcination can retain the exoteric diffusion channels of CAU-17, making α-Bi2O3/BiOBr heterojunctions have an enormous specific surface area, providing more adsorption sites and promoting their photocatalytic capacity. Free radical capture tests and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements indicated that h+ and •O2 – were the primary active substances during photodegradation. On the basis of that, a feasible photodegradation mechanism of type II α-Bi2O3/BiOBr heterojunctions was proposed. This study opens up the possibility of designing type II heterojunctions with MOFs as precursors for dye degradation.

Abstract:Different bismuth oxychloride (BiOCl) nanosheets were successfully synthesized via a facile solvothermal process in different solvents. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-vis diffuse reflection spectroscopy (DRS) and nitrogen adsorption. The prepared sheet-like BiOCl products showed different optical properties, BET surface areas and photocatalytic activities on the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation (lambda > 400 nm). More importantly, the as-synthesized BiOCl nanosheets exhibited superior photocatalytic activities compared with commercial BiOCl and TiO2 under visible light irradiation. The visible-light-induced degradation of RhB over the as-synthesized BiOCl photocatalysts was mainly ascribed to the photosensitization process and their layered structures.

Abstract:BiOCl photocatalyst with excellent performance has been prepared by a simple liquid-solid phase transition method. Three BiOCl-x (x = 0.5, 0.75, 1.0) photocatalysts were obtained by changing the amount of HCl in the preparation process. The main dominant crystal planes are (001), (002), and (003). Their forbidden bandwidths are reduced to 2.81, 2.89, and 2.84 eV. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, high-resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier infrared spectrometry, UV-vis diffuse reflection spectrometer, and UV-vis spectrophotometer. The degradation mechanism of BiOCl-x on Rhodamine B(RhB) has been investigated by quenching experiments on active materials. ·O2- was the primary degradation agent. When the dosage of HCl was 0.75 mL, the degradation effect of RhB was the best under the same experimental conditions. In visible light, RhB was almost completely degraded within 15 min, demonstrating an excellent photocatalytic degradation efficiency.

Abstract:BiOBr assembled by nanopillows possesses wonderful photocatalytic performances and absorption abilities by absorbing almost 100% of methylene blue, methyl red, or rhodamine bismuth due to the porous nanostructures, enhanced visible light absorption capacity, and surface hydroxyls. Herein, various BiOBr nanostructures are successfully synthesized using a facile solvothermal method. A series of structural and morphological analyses clearly indicate that due to the nucleation protection provided by KOH and the presence of surface‐absorbed hydroxyl groups, BiOBr transforms from nanosheet microspheres to nanopillow aggregations (BNP) and finally to nanoneedle matrix. The open‐porous nanostructure of the BiOBr nanopillows (BNPs), along with their enhanced visible light absorption capacity and the presence of surface hydroxyls, enables them to adsorb nearly 100% of organic dyes, including rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue, and methyl red. Furthermore, the BNP exhibits remarkable visible light photocatalytic activity, degrading higher concentrations of RhB in ≈20 min.

Carbon-Doped Bi2MoO6 Nanosheets Self-Assembled Microspheres for Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Dyes

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, carbon-doped Bi2MoO6 (C-Bi2MoO6) nanosheets self-assembled microspheres were prepared by solvothermal-calcination route to improve the photocatalytic activity of Bi2MoO6. The characterization results of XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, TEM, BET and XPS indicated that C replaced the O2- anion in Bi2MoO6 lattice, thinning the nanosheets, decreasing the size of microspheres, and increasing the specific surface area of Bi2MoO6. UV-Vis DRS, PL, EIS, transient photocurrent and LSV spectra demonstrated that the carbon doping reduced the band gap energy, raised the conduction band and enhanced the photogenerated electron-hole pairs separation efficiency of Bi2MoO6. Benefiting from these favorable changes, the C-Bi2MoO6 microspheres prepared at a molar ratio of C to Bi of 4 (4C-Bi2MoO6) exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity, and the photocatalytic degradation rate constant of rhodamine B by 4C-Bi2MoO6 microspheres was almost 2.26 times that by pristine Bi2MoO6 under simulated solar light. 4C-Bi2MoO6 microspheres (0.2 g/L) presented excellent photocatalytic performance toward RhB (20 mg/L) at pH value 1 and could remove 98.31% of RhB within 120 min. In addition, 4C-Bi2MoO6 microspheres also possessed a high photocatalytic activity toward methylene blue and tetracycline. 4C-Bi2MoO6 microspheres assembled from thin nanosheets can be used as effective photocatalysts to degrade toxic organic molecules from wastewater.

The flower-like Ni-MOF modified BiOBr nanosheets with enhancing photocatalytic degradation performance

Abstract:A novel BiOBr/Ni-MOF composite was fabricated by in-situ growth of BiOBr nanosheets on Ni-MOF through a convenient precipitation process. The optimal photocatalytic performance was achieved with a Ni-MOF mass content of 45 wt% in the BiOBr/Ni-MOF composite. This composite exhibited remarkable efficiency, degrading 98.33 % of Rhodamine B in 90 min, surpassing the degradation rate constants of pristine BiOBr and Ni-MOF by 4.2 and 160 times, respectively. The superior performance was primarily ascribed to the efficient separation of photogenerated carriers facilitated by the formation of heterojunctions. Additionally, the increased specific surface area and pore structure provided numerous adsorption and active sites. Radical scavenger experiments and electron spin resonance experiments further revealed that O2 − and h+ played crucial roles in the degradation process. Furthermore, the structural properties of the prepared photocatalysts and the effects of different photocatalytic conditions on the degradation of RhB were investigated. This work offers an alternative perspective on the design and fabrication of BiOBr-based composite photocatalysts.

Abstract:BiOBr nanosheets were synthesized through an ultrafast hydrolysis precipitation method, which significantly reduced energy consumption and time cost compared to traditional hydrothermal synthesis methods. Mover, by adjusting the addition amount of KOH in the synthesis process, BiOBr can grow towards more complex crystal structure. In this paper, BiOBr nanosheets were synthesized through a novel hydrolysis precipitation method, which significantly reduced energy consumption and time cost compared to traditional hydrothermal synthesis methods. The subjected hydrothermal and high‐temperature calcination process promote the generation of surface oxygen vacancies, which inhibited the recombination of photogenerated electron hole pairs and improve the photocatalytic performance of BiOBr. Additionally, by adjusting the addition amount of KOH in the synthesis process, BiOBr can grow towards more complex crystal structure, which also provides a new path for the fabrication of 2D materials.

Abstract:The nanosheet-assembled Bi2WO6 microspheres could be successfully synthesized in large quantities by a facile hydrothermal strategy in the presence of surfactant hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) under mild conditions. The morphology and size of as-prepared Bi2WO6 could be readily controlled by adjusting the synthetic parameters such as hydrothermal time. The probable formation mechanism of nanosheet-assembled Bi2WO6 microspheres was discussed in detail. The hierarchical nanosheet-assembled microspheres could be constructed by orderly arranged nanosheets. The photocatalytic activity of the nanosheet-assembled Bi2WO6 microspheres was evaluated by degrading rhodamine B (RhB) under irradiation of visible light. The brilliant photodegradation efficiency is about 98% under visible light irradiation for 50 min. The results suggest that the as-prepared Bi2WO6 microspheres have good prospects as the photocatalyst for the removal of organic pollutants.

Abstract:A simple one step wet-chemical method assisted by trisodium citrate was employed in the synthesis of BiOBr applied as a photocatalyst. Photocatalytic activity of the BiOBr was investigated for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye under visible light irradiation (λ>420 nm). The results indicated that trisodium citrate is more favorable to the formation of hierarchical architectures and reduces the particle size of BiOBr photocatalyst. BiOBr with hierarchical architectures exhibiting significantly higher catalytic activity than that with ordinary nanostructure. The significant improvement could be attributed to the high specific surface area (24.14 m2·−1), average pore sizes (34.09 nm) and average pore volume (0.24 cm3·g−1).

Abstract:The square BiOBr nanoplates were successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions with the ionic liquids used as solvent, reactant and the directing agent. The prepared BiOBr nanoplates were characterized by XRD, TEM, HRTEM, SAED, EDX, and DRS, which showed that the square BiOBr nanoplates possessed pure tetragonal BiOBr phase with high-ratio exposure of {001} facets. It was found that the ionic liquid played a key role in the formation of square BiOBr nanoplates and the possible growth mechanism was also discussed. According to the results in the photodegradation of Rhodamine B under visible-light irradiation, the square BiOBr nanoplates exhibited excellent photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:In this study, Bi/BiOCl nanosheets were prepared by a rapid, cost-efficient and one-step solution combustion synthesis method using a mixed fuel (glycine and tartaric acid). Through thermometry and thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), the combustion mode and reaction mechanism are analyzed. The reducing gas produced by the mixed fuel is a necessary condition for obtaining metal Bi decorated BiOCl, and the content of Bi in the composite can be regulated by adjusting the molar ratio of Bi/Cl in reactants. In addition, under visible light irradiation, due to the SPR effect of metal Bi, Bi/BiOCl composite photocatalyst shows better photocatalytic performance, in which the highest degradation efficiency of Rhodamine B (RhB) within 120 min is 2.6 times higher than that of BiOCl. Thus, the present study provides an economic and convenient method for the tunable synthesis of a high-efficiency catalyst for the degradation of pollutants.

Abstract:Two kinds of BiOBr nanosheets-assembled microspheres were successfully prepared via a facile, rapid and reliable microwave-assisted solvothermal route, employing Bi(NO3)3·5H2O and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as starting reagents in the absence or presence of oleic acid. The phase and morphology of the products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Experiments indicated that the formation of these building blocks of microspheres could be ascribed to the self-assembly of nanoparticles according to mesocrystal growth mode. Interestingly, both samples exhibited not only strong adsorption abilities, but also excellent photocatalytic activities for methyl orange (MO), rhodamine B (RhB) and phenol. The resulting BiOBr hierarchical microspheres are very promising adsorbents and photocatalysts for the treatment of organic pollutants.
AgI Nanoparticles Decorated Bi24O31Br10 Nanosheets: An Efficient 0D/2D Z-Scheme Heterojunction Photocatalyst for the Degradation of Rhodamine B

Abstract:A novel 0D/2D Z-scheme AgI/Bi24O31Br10 photocatalyst was prepared through the simple solvothermal and coprecipitation method, in which AgI nanoparticles were decorated on the surface of Bi24O31Br10 nanosheets. The AgI/Bi24O31Br10 composites exhibited improved photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) in comparison with pristine Bi24O31Br10 and AgI under simulated sunlight irradiation. Specifically, AB-30 (mass fraction of AgI, 30%) composite exhibited remarkable photocatalytic activity of 97.6% towards RhB degradation under 120 min of simulated sunlight irradiation, and its RhB degradation rate constant (k) was approximately 20.7 and 2.9 times higher than that of pure Bi24O31Br10 and AgI, respectively. The improvement of photocatalytic performance of as-prepared AgI/Bi24O31Br10 heterojunction composites was ascribed to the synergistic effect of wide visible-light harvest capacity and the rapid transfer and separation efficiency of charge carriers. UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) analysis validated that the introduction of AgI could broaden the visible-light absorption of AgI/Bi24O31Br10 composite. The results of electrochemical impedance (EIS), photocurrent response and photoluminescence spectra (PL) tests showed that AgI/Bi24O31Br10 composite possessed the efficient separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers. Trapping experiments of free radicals certified that ·O2− was the main reactive species in the process of degradation. And a probable photocatalytic mechanism of Z-scheme heterojunction between Bi24O31Br10 and AgI was proposed.
