Abstract:Skeletal class III malocclusion with severe skeletal disharmonies and arch discrepancies is usually treated via the conventional orthodontic-surgical approach. However, when associated with tooth impaction and periodontal risks, the treatment is more challenging and complex. The esthetic, occlusal, and periodontal stability of the treatment outcome is more difficult to obtain. The 16-year-old female patient in this case was diagnosed with dental and skeletal Class III malocclusion, bilateral impacted maxillary canines, and scalloped thin gingiva. The multidisciplinary management included a segmental arch technique, extracting two premolars, a subepithelial connective tissue graft surgery, and orthognathic surgery. The esthetic facial profile, pleasant smile, appropriate occlusion, and functional treatment results were obtained and maintained in 8-year follow-up.
Clinical and Patient-Centered Outcomes Following Rehabilitation of Atrophic Edentulous Maxilla Using Six Implants Placed Simultaneously with Bilateral Maxillary Sinus Augmentation: A Retrospective Case Series.

Abstract:Objectives: To evaluate treatment success, patient satisfaction, and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) after rehabilitation of atrophic edentulous maxilla (AEM) with six implants placed simultaneously with bilateral maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA). Materials and methods: The selected patients were fully edentulous with atrophic maxillary posterior residual ridges and rehabilitated with six implants placed simultaneously with bilateral MSFA and immediate All-on-4 provisional fixed prosthesis (PFP). After 7-12 months of implant surgery, all patients have received an All-on-6 definitive fixed prosthesis (DFP). After at least one year of function with DFP, clinical and radiographic examinations were performed. Patient satisfaction was assessed through a visual analog scale (VAS). The OHRQoL before treatment (T0), during provisional (T1), and after definitive prosthesis (T2) was evaluated using OHI-14. Results: 20 maxillary edentulous patients were rehabilitated with 120 implants, 20 immediate All-on-4 PFP, and 20 All-on-6 DFP. Of those, 12 patients have passed at least a year follow-up after DFP insertion and were eligible to be included in the assessment of treatment success. After a mean of 20 (12-36) months follow-up, the implant and prosthesis survival rates were 100%. The success rate at the implant level was 98.6%. The mean marginal bone loss (MBL) was 0.09 +/- 0.06 mm. No prosthetic or postoperative complications, and the mean general satisfaction was (91.75 +/- 7.06). There was a significant improvement in all OHIP-14 domains during the final All-on-6 prosthesis (T2) (P < 0.01). Conclusions: Rehabilitation of atrophic edentulous maxilla using six implants with simultaneous bilateral MSFA and immediate All-on-4 PFP is a successful treatment approach associated with minimal postoperative complications and significant improvement in OHRQoL. Digitally Guided Advanced Prosthodontic Rehabilitation for Post-COVID-19 Mucormycosis Using Patient-Specific Implants: A Case Report

Abstract:This case report describes the prosthodontic rehabilitation of a middle-aged male patient who underwent bilateral low-level maxillectomy due to post-COVID-19 mucormycosis. The oronasal communication was closed using an anterior base tongue flap. Two patient-specific subperiosteal implants were placed to rehabilitate the patient's bony defect. Using a postsurgical CT scan, a virtually customized subperiosteal titanium framework was created from grade IV titanium alloy. The fabricated framework was implanted over the patient's zygomatic bone bilaterally. Six months later, the right-sided patient-specific implant was infected and had to be surgically removed. After satisfactory healing, an open-tray impression was taken to create a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing titanium Hader bar. An acrylic resin overdenture was then fabricated over this bar. A clasp assembly was fabricated by direct metal laser sintering of cobalt-chromium alloy for additional retention. The metal substructures were incorporated into the overdenture prosthesis to enhance the stability and retention.. This case report unveils an innovative approach to rehabilitating severely compromised maxillary bony defects and impaired oral functioning, offering a viable alternative when traditional reconstruction methods are inadequate. Prosthodontic treatment greatly affects the aesthetics, phonetics, and mastication of the patient, improving the overall quality of life of the patient.

Abstract:This study analyzes the relationship between the social factors and the economic growth. A summary of social and economic environment is presented for Romania. As such, the paper analyzes the global evolution of social and economic environment over time and establishes a direct correlation between human development and economic welfare. An econometric model and a clustering model are tested for European Union countries. The results of the paper reveal the social factors that are positively correlated with the economic growth (i.e. the expected years of schooling and the life expectancy) and, respectively, the factors that are negatively correlated with the economic growth (i.e. the population at risk of poverty and the unemployment rate).

Abstract:Introduction: The demand for aesthetic restorations in dentistry has led to full-mouth reconstructions or rehabilitations (FMRs) as a viable solution for treating patients with worn and altered teeth. This study presents a clinical case report of a middle-aged patient with severe tooth wear and deep overbite with digital workflows. Case Presentation: The case report highlighted the successful application of digital technology in the comprehensive rehabilitation of a patient with worn dentition, showcasing improved esthetics, function, and patient comfort. The case report demonstrated the potential benefits of this rapid approach in achieving successful outcomes. Digital CAD/CAM technology is a solution for optimizing the prosthetic workflow, achieving time and cost efficiency, and delivering high-quality dental restorations. Conclusion: Future primary studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-ups can further validate the FMR digital approaches.

Abstract:Mandibular condyle fracture malunion and tooth loss can cause functional and esthetic problems. A patient with restricted mouth opening associated with muscle atrophy required prosthetic rehabilitation. Since the remaining teeth had a poor prognosis and the patient had difficulty adapting to the interim denture, complete mouth rehabilitation with implants was chosen. The implants were placed by using nerve lateralization and an autogenous bone graft. Prosthetic rehabilitation combines digital diagnosis and conventional prosthetic restorations. The definitive prosthesis was fabricated to ensure adequate oral hygiene and functional adaptation of the orofacial structures. Treatment resulted in stable masticatory function, occlusion, and esthetics and restored the function of the atrophied lips and restricted mouth opening.

Abstract:Oral mucormycosis mainly involves the maxilla, although it can also affect other areas of the oral cavity. Mucormycosis infection involving the maxilla spreads rapidly leading to the palatal perforation and necrosis of the bone, which eventually leads to intraoral communication between the oral and nasal cavities leading to difficulty in speech, deglutition, and mastication. Although surgical reconstruction is the best treatment modality, reconstruction of large defects still remains questionable, so prosthodontic rehabilitation of such patients restores normal functioning, enhances aesthetics, and boosts the confidence of the patient. This case presentation describes the amalgam of both conventional and digital techniques to bring out an economical and effective possible treatment modality for the rehabilitation of such patients. This case report entails the usage of a digitally fabricated precision attachment retained definitive prosthesis as a simple and effective approach to restore the acquired maxillary defect following mucormycosis.

Abstract:Excessive teeth wear can lead to reduced chewing efficiency, occlusal plane col-lapse, and facial changes. Full mouth rehabilitation with a change in vertical dimension may cause pain in the temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscle and teeth, so an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan is required. In this case, a 69-year-old man had excessive teeth wear with a loss of posterior support. We evaluated the degree of adaptation to the increased vertical dimension with the removable occlusal splint and provisional restoration. We report this case be-cause the treatment result has been functionally and aesthetically satisfactory by providing stable anterior guidance, proper posterior teeth disclusion, and even contact of all teeth in centric occlusion. Abstract:We propose a new structure of optical fiber temperature sensor with cascaded long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) and investigate the temperature dependent loss of cascaded LFPGs. Each of the cascaded LPFGs has the same resonance wavelength with the same temperature change, because the cascaded LPFGs are made of a heat-shrinkable tube and a screw. The total resonance loss of proposed cascaded LPFGs shows higher temperature sensitivity than that of a single LPFG. The thermal coefficient of 4-cascaded LPFG also shows more than 4 times larger than that of a single one.

Abstract:Regressive changes of natural dentition may be a physiologic or pathologic process which proceeds to drastic occlusal wear. Loss of incisal or occlusal edge morphology due to functional or parafunctional activity of teeth can be regarded as physiologic whereas frictional action of a foreign body on the teeth or loss of tooth substance due to a chemical process involving bacteria may be termed as pathogenic. These result in loss of occlusal vertical dimension and may elicit occlusal instability compromised function and aesthetics.The treatment modalities for the same are confined to fixed prosthesis for restoration of the lost vertical dimension. But this technique in general is expensive technique sensitive and complex. An Overlay Removable Partial Denture ORPD though rarely reported in the literature can be considered as one of the alternative interim or even a permanent dental prosthesis. The proposed paper is a case report of worn dentition rehabilitated with ORPD. This approach was found to be non-invasive simple and cost effective. The patient on short term follow-up reported with optimal aesthetics and masticatory efficiency. Overall satisfaction and quality of life improved after the treatment.

Abstract:Introduction and importance: Aliments such as congenital conditions, pathological, and iatrogenic circumstances may result in mandibular defects that can severely disturb the patients' oral health, functions (mastication, speech), aesthetics, and quality of life and present a rehabilitating challenge. Case presentation: we present a multidisciplinary treatment approach for three cases presented with mandibular resection as a consequence of cystic, benign, and malignant tumour eradication that were rehabilitated with immediately loaded fixed corticobasal implant-supported prostheses and a follow-up period of 5,5 and 4 years. The reported cases present with excellent implant survival, along with healthy peri-implant tissues, stable prostheses, enhanced speech, chewing ability, aesthetics, superior patient satisfaction, and improved overall self-esteem. Clinical discussion: A multidisciplinary oral and maxillofacial team is mandatory for the successful rehabilitation of patients with mandibular resection and to restore soft and hard tissue loss. The reported treatment modality offers the patient immediate fixed implant-supported prostheses omitting the need for a bone grafting procedure, with optimum peri-implant tissue health, excellent biomechanical and prosthetic results, and significant improvement in function and satisfaction. Conclusion: Corticobasal fixed implant-supported prostheses can be a reliable treatment modality for mandibular resection, resulting in notable enhancements in the patients' oral health, appearance, mastication, speech, and self-esteem.

Abstract:Oligodontia is the agenesis of six or more permanent teeth, excluding the third molars. Multidisciplinary dental treatments should be performed sequentially due to the restoration requirements for good oral function, aesthetics and self-confidence of patients. In this study, we report a case using dental implants and full-ceramic prostheses to restore the absent and malformed teeth in a patient with agenesis of 18 permanent teeth and with some primary teeth retained. The dental sequential treatments began when she was 16 years old, and she wore removable partial dentures for 4 years with unsatisfying restoration outcome. When she became an adult, dental implants and full-ceramic prostheses were used to restore the absent and malformed teeth. Finally, the patient was very satisfied with the functional and aesthetic outcomes of the prosthetic treatment.
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS WORKING PAPERS SERIES ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: A PANEL DATA APPROACH TO BRICS COUNTRIES

Abstract:This paper serves to investigate the causal relationship between electricity consumption and economic growth in the Brics countries during the period 1990 – 2014. Carbon dioxide emissions and urbanisation were included as additional variables to form a multivariate framework. The Kao panel co-integration and Johansen Fisher panel co-integration techniques are applied to analyse the co-integration relationship between the variables while the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) Granger-causality test is used to estimate the causality relationship among the variables. The study’s results reveal that there is a long run relationship between the variables. The research outcome further detected a unidirectional causality flowing from economic growth to electricity consumption in the long run in Brics countries. So in the light of determination of the study, the policy implication is that a significant transformation of low carbon technologies such as renewable energy should be implemented to curb the emissions and sustain economic growth and development.

Abstract:Complete edentulism poses significant challenges to oral function, esthetics, and overall quality of life. The use of complete dentures remains a cornerstone in rehabilitating such patients and restoring masticatory function, phonetics, and facial esthetics. However, to improve patients' function, it is important to restore the stomatognathic system. The rehabilitation process begins with a thorough assessment of the patient's oral health status, including evaluation of the remaining supporting structures and the surrounding soft tissues. Impressions and jaw relation records are meticulously obtained to ensure accurate denture fabrication. Proper denture retention, stability, and occlusion are crucial for successful rehabilitation. Beyond functional aspects, attention to esthetics plays a pivotal role in patient satisfaction and acceptance of complete dentures. Customization of denture teeth in terms of shape, shade, and arrangement is essential to achieve natural-looking smiles and facial harmony. Complete dentures remain a valuable treatment modality for the comprehensive rehabilitation of completely edentulous patients. Through a combination of meticulous treatment planning, advanced techniques, and patient-centered care, we can achieve successful outcomes in restoring oral function and thus improving the overall quality of life for such patients. Thus, this case report outlines a simple, economical, and useful rehabilitation plan for a patient with an edentulous maxillary and mandibular arch with flabby tissue and a resorbed mandibular ridge.

Abstract:Full-mouth rehabilitation, also known as full-mouth reconstruction or restoration, is the comprehensive process of restoring and rehabilitating the function, aesthetics, and health of all teeth in the upper and lower jaws. This involves a multidisciplinary approach, addressing issues such as occlusion (bite), tooth wear, tooth loss, and periodontal (gum) health to achieve optimal dental function and appearance. This treatment provides a stable and reliable solution for dental problems associated with the complete or partial loss of dental elements. This case report discusses the management of a 72-year-old male patient who came with a chief complaint of decayed, missing, and mobility of his teeth. His medical history included drug-regulated diabetes and chronic periodontitis, which remained a reason behind his deteriorating dental health. The treatment plan encompassed a comprehensive approach, starting with the full-mouth extraction and progressing to the placement of six implants in both the mandibular and maxillary arches for complete restoration. After allowing eight weeks for healing, the impressions for the implants were recorded with the polyvinyl siloxane material. The case demonstrates the application of the all-on-six concept; whereby full arch rehabilitation is possible with the strategic placement of six implants. By employing the latest in advanced computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), a zirconia prosthesis that was retained on a milled bar was fabricated-yielding a very high degree of accuracy and excellent aesthetics in the restoration. Restorations with zirconium were done, as it is excellent in aesthetics and functioning. This article considers the importance of precision planning, correct implant placement, and advances in dental science and technology. Most importantly, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the end outcome of total rehabilitation with all-on-six should not only be an affirmation that difficult cases can be managed very well but also the patient's quality of life is improved by using the latest dental procedures.

Abstract:Objective Occlusal reconstruction is a critical intervention for patients with dental hard tissue defects, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and jaw position abnormalities. Clinical efficiency and outcomes of these procedures have improved with advances in digital technologies. This case report aims to illustrate a comprehensive digital workflow for occlusal reconstruction in a patient with congenital dentition defects, emphasizing the application of digital technologies to enhance treatment outcomes. Clinical considerations A 28‐year‐old woman with previously installed porcelain‐fused‐to‐metal bridge restorations presented with a fractured prosthesis and TMJ symptoms. A multidisciplinary approach was adopted involving the use of digital facebow, intraoral scanners, digital smile design, and CAD/CAM technologies. The process included the extraction of defective restorations, temporary restorations to refine jaw position, and final permanent restorations. The digital workflow facilitated precise diagnostics and treatment, culminating in the successful installation of permanent restorations. Regular follow‐ups at one‐ and three‐months post‐treatment confirmed stable occlusal function and high patient satisfaction. Conclusions This case report showcases the potential of multiple digital technologies to streamline complex dental treatments and achieve high‐quality results. Clinical significance The integration of digital technologies in occlusal reconstruction treatments offers significant benefits in terms of precision, patient comfort, and esthetic outcomes.

Multidisciplinary Non-Surgical Treatment of Advanced Periodontitis: A Case Report.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Patients with severe periodontitis often require multidisciplinary treatment to achieve healthy periodontal tissue, normal occlusion, and optimal aesthetics. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of multidisciplinary non-surgical treatment in a patient with stage IV/ grade C periodontitis, malocclusion, and dentition defects.CASE SUMMARY:A 47-year-old woman visited our periodontology department due to teeth mobility problems and difficulties chewing food. The patient had no history of drug allergies or systemic disease. Initial therapy involved scaling and root planning with a Gracey scaler and periodontal ultrasonic therapeutic apparatus using a periodontal endoscope (Perioscopy, Zest Dental Solutions, United States) to control the periodontal inflammation prior to treatment. Five months later, orthodontic treatment was then performed to treat occlusion and overall aesthetics. After completion, a Maryland bridge was used to restore Nos. 22, 31, and 41 teeth. Florida probing (Florida probe, United States) was performed every 2-3 mo to evaluate the periodontal condition throughout treatment. Overall, multidisciplinary non-surgical treatment resulted in satisfactory aesthetic results with healthy periodontal tissue and stable occlusion.CONCLUSION:In some patients with stage IV/grade C periodontitis, systematic and sequential non-surgical treatment can provide excellent therapeutic results.

Abstract:Severe atrophy of the maxilla occasionally renders it impossible to place standard endosseous implants to replace absent teeth. For such cases, personalized subperiosteal implants (PSI) are presented as a treatment alternative. Due to novel design and manufacturing technologies, PSIs are fitted closely to the bone structure of the patient, after defining the anchorage areas where the bone is of higher quality and allowing a passive dental prosthesis to be attached to restore function and aesthetics to the patient. The present case report documents a patient with severe bone defects as a sequela of rhino-orbit-cerebral mucormycosis. After a failed microvascular fibula flap reconstruction, the patient was treated with a removable implant-supported prosthesis attached to a PSI, which provided occlusion with the mandible of the patient and closed the oronasal-antral communication defect. At 18 months after treatment, the patient felt well, with no biological complications and the prosthesis was well adjusted and with good function. Consequently, we consider that in some cases such as this, a customized solution of this type can avoid complex reconstruction treatments.

Abstract:Reconstruction of maxillofacial defects is challenging due to the region's complex anatomy. During the COVID-19 era, many patients lost their maxilla and chewing efficiency as a result of Mucormycosis.
