Abstract:Microcystins, a group of cyclic heptapeptide heaptoxins and tumor promoters, are bio-generated by cyanobacteria occurring in eutrophic lakes, rivers and reservoirs. In the present work, a novel liquid chromatography electrospray ionization (ESI-MS) tandem triple quadrupole mass spectrometry method was developed to determine the trace amounts of major microcystin variants in waters. Solid phase extraction (SPE) consuming 10mL of water samples was used for sample cleaning-up and analyte enrichment. A reverse phase LC separation system consisting a symmetry300 C-18 column (4.6mm×75mm i.d., 3.5μm, pore size 300Å) and binary gradient methanol-water mobile phase was applied for the separation of microcystin variants (MC-RR, -LR, -LW and -LF). Formic acid was spiked into the mobile phase to enhance the ionization efficiency. Tandem MS/MS analysis was performed in multi-reaction monitoring mode (MRM). Product-ion traces at m/z 519.9→135.0 for MC-RR, 498.4→135.0 for MC-LR, 1025.8→891.7 for MC-LW and 986.8→852.5 for MC-LF was used for quantification of the corresponding microcystin variants, and trace at m/z 556.1→278.0 used for internal standard enkephalin. Limits of quantification (LOQs) were 0.16, 0.04, 2.0, 1.0 and 0.10μg/L for MC-RR, MC-LR, MC-LW, MC-LF and enkephalin, respectively. Intra- and inter-day precisions for the determination of the four variants were better than 5 and 6% in relative standard deviations (R.S.D.s), and recoveries for the four variants were in the range of 95–105%. The developed approach has been applied for the determination of the trace amounts of miccocystins in water samples of Taihu Lake of eastern China. The results showed that MC-RR and MC-LR were major variants detected in the water samples, and their concentrations significantly increased with the season changing from Spring to Summer.

Abstract:The presence of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins in all water bodies, including ocean water and fresh water sources, represents a risk for human health as eutrophication and climate change are enhancing their level of proliferation. For risk assessment and studies on occurrence, the development of reliable and sensitive analytical approaches able to cover a wide range of cyanotoxins is essential. This work describes the development of an HILIC-MS/MS multiclass method for the simultaneous analysis of eight cyanotoxins in reservoir water samples belonging to three different classes according to their chemical structure: cyclic peptides (microcystin-LR, microcystin-RR and nodularin), alkaloids (cylindrospermopsin, anatoxin-a) and three non-protein amino acids isomers such as β-methylamino-L-alanine, 2,4-diaminobutyric acid and N-(2-aminoethyl)glycine). A SeQuant ZIC-HILIC column was employed to achieve the chromatographic separation in less than 12 min. Previously, a novel sample treatment based on a tandem solid-phase extraction (SPE) system using mixed cation exchange (MCX) and Strata-X cartridges was investigated with the aim of extracting and preconcentrating this chemically diverse group of cyanotoxins. The Strata-X cartridge, which was configured first in the line of sample flow, retained the low polar compounds and the MCX cartridge, which was at the bottom of the dual system, retained mainly the non-protein amino acids. The optimization procedure highlighted the importance of sample ion content for the recoveries of some analytes such as the isomers β-N-methylamino-L-alanine and 2-4-diaminobutyric acid. Method validation was carried out in terms of linearity, limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ), recoveries, matrix effect and precision in terms of repeatability and intermediate precision. This work represents the first analytical method for the simultaneous analysis of these multiclass cyanotoxins in reservoir water samples, achieving LOQs in the very low range of 7·10-3 - 0.1 μg L-1. Despite high recoveries obtained at the LOQ concentration levels (101.0-70.9%), relative standard deviations lower than 17.5% were achieved.
THE ELECTROCARDIOGRAM IN CARDIOMYOPATHY

Abstract:Cardiomyopathy has been defined as "a subacute or chronic disorder of heart muscle of unknown or obscure etiology, often with associated endocardial, and sometimes with pericardial, involvement, but not atherosclerotic in origin". Using this definition a differentiation of chronic cardiomyopathies into three types has been made on clinical grounds (Goodwin et al., 1961). Obstructive Cardiomyopathy. We have given this term to a group of disorders that are characterized by diffuse obstruction to outflow from the left ventricle below the aortic valve (Goodwin et al., 1960). We believe the commonest cause to be asymmetrical hypertrophy of the heart mainly involving the ventricular septum (Teare, 1958). In some patients, the major obstruction involves the inflow tract of the left ventricle, or both outflow and inflow tracts of the right ventricle, when there is evidence of obstruction at more than one site. But the commonest presentation is that of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. The clinical features are a normal orjerky arterial pulse; an ejection murmur oflate onset maximal at the left sternal edge (and often a thrill); and absence of aortic valvular calcification or dilatation of the ascending aorta (Goodwin et al., 1960). Commonly, a family history of heart disease or of sudden death is present, and the condition mimics aortic valvular or sub-valvular stenosis. Obstruction involving the left ventricular or right ventricular inflow tracts may present signs of mitral and tricuspid stenosis respectively, while muscular obstruction to right ventricular outflow simulates pulmonary stenosis. Congestive Cardiomyopathy. This, the commonest form of cardiomyopathy, is characterized by cardiomegaly, gallop rhythm, and often pan-systolic murmurs due to mitral or tricuspid valvular insufficiency. It frequently simulates ischlemic heart disease. Constrictive Cardiomyopathy. This, the least common of the three clinical forms of cardiomyopathy, generally shows no remarkable cardiac enlargement, murmurs are trivial or absent, but a third heart sound is common, the jugular venous pressure is raised, and there are steep "x" and "y" descents. The venous pressure may rise in inspiration. This type must be distinguished from constrictive pericarditis. The object of this paper is to present an analysis of the cardiographic appearances in the three types of cardiomyopathy, and to compare these appearances with those of cardiograms of patients with disorders that clinically resemble the cardiomyopathies.

Abstract:Cyanotoxins constitute a group of toxic secondary metabolites, the presence of which in any water body poses a major health risk. Moreover, advanced organisms such as edible plants exposed to these toxins, are a possible pathway for human exposure. Green analytical chemistry is demanding environmentally friendly analytical techniques. In this sense, we propose the use of capillary electrophoresis coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (CE-MS/MS) to determine a mixture of eight cyanotoxins belonging to three different classes: cyclic peptides (microcystin-LR, microcystin-RR and nodularin), alkaloids (cylindrospermopsin and anatoxin-a) and three isomeric non-protein amino acids (β-methylamino-l-alanine, 2,4-diaminobutyric acid and N-(2-aminoethyl)glycine). Separation was achieved by using an acidic background electrolyte consisting of 2 M formic acid and 20% acetonitrile in water. Parameters affecting MS/MS detection and the sheath-liquid interface were also studied. Finally, a combination of pH-junction, field-amplified sample stacking (FASS) and acid barrage as online preconcentration strategies, was employed to improve sensitivity and efficiency. The online preconcentration applied, in combination with a dual cartridge solid-phase extraction (SPE) system, allows to obtain limits of detection in the very low range of µg·L-1 for these multiclass cyanotoxins in reservoir water samples (from 0.005 to 0.10 µg·L-1). Furthermore, for the first time cyanotoxins are analysed in spinach samples through CE-MS/MS using the same SPE procedure, following lyophilisation and solid-liquid extraction with 6 mL 80 % aqueous MeOH.
Quantification of cylindrospermopsin, anatoxin-a and homoanatoxin-a in cyanobacterial bloom freshwater using direct injection/SPE coupled with UPLC-MS/MS

Abstract:Analytical methods based on direct injection (DI) and solid phase extraction (SPE) coupled with ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC- MS/MS) were developed for the determination of anatoxin-a (ATX-a), cylindrospermopsin (CYN), and homoanatoxin-a (HATX-a) in freshwater samples impacted with cyanobacterial blooms. The presence of CYN in freshwater samples was detected and quantified based on direct injection method, while ATX-a and HATX-a could be determined by both DI and SPE-based methods. Matrix effects (ME) on the signal intensity of the cyanotoxins were systematically evaluated for both direct injection and SPE extract samples. CYN, ATX-a, and HATX-a suffered a significant suppression during UPLC-MS/MS. The selection of internal standards (ISs) for compensating/correcting the losses of target cyanotoxins during sample preparation and matrix effects in UPLC-MS/MS analyses were systematically evaluated. Acetaminophen-d4 (an isotopically labelled acetaminophen) is a suitable internal standard for correcting the ME on the signal intensity of ATX-a and HATX-a, while the use of L-phenylalanine-d5 or caffeine-d9 as IS for correcting ME of these toxins was not efficient, as expected. The method detection limit (MDL) for the target cyanotoxins ranged from 0.6 to 15 ng/L, which is sensitive enough to detect the presence of these toxins in cyanobacterial bloom freshwater. The developed methods were successfully applied for routine monitoring of the occurrence of these cyanotoxins in a local water body. Monitoring results depicted that ATX-a, CYN and HATX-a were ubiquitously detected in water samples, at concentrations ranging from 70 to 24,600 ng/L.

Inhibition of UVB‐Induced Skin Damage by Exopolymers from Aureobasidium pullulans SM‐2001 in Hairless Mice

Abstract:Because antioxidants from natural sources may be an effective approach to the treatment and prevention of UV radiation‐induced skin damage, the effects of purified exopolymers from Aureobasidium pullulans SM‐2001 (‘E‐AP‐SM2001’) were evaluated in UVB‐induced hairless mice. E‐AP‐SM2001 consists of 1.7% β‐1,3/1,6‐glucan, fibrous polysaccharides and other organic materials, such as amino acids, and mono‐ and di‐unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acids) and shows anti‐osteoporotic and immunomodulatory effects, through antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory mechanisms. Hairless mice were treated topically with vehicle, E‐AP‐SM2001 stock and two and four times diluted solutions once per day for 15 weeks against UVB irradiation (three times per week at 0.18 J/cm2). The following parameters were evaluated in skin samples: myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, cytokine levels [interleukin (IL)‐1β and IL‐10], endogenous antioxidant content (glutathione, GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, superoxide anion production; matrix metalloproteases (MMP‐1, ‐9 and ‐13), GSH reductase and Nox2 (gp91phox) mRNA levels, and immunoreactivity for nitrotyrosine (NT), 4‐hydroxynonenal (HNE), caspase‐3, and cleaved poly(ADP‐ribose) polymerase (PARP). Photoageing was induced by UVB irradiation through ROS‐mediated inflammation, which was related to the depletion of endogenous antioxidants, activation of MMPs and keratinocyte apoptosis. Topical treatment with all three doses of E‐AP‐SM2001 and 5 nm myricetin attenuated the UV‐induced depletion of GSH, activation of MMPs, production of IL‐1β, the decrease in IL‐10 and keratinocyte apoptosis. In this study, E‐AP‐SM2001 showed potent inhibitory effects against UVB‐induced skin photoageing. Thus, E‐AP‐SM2001 may be useful as a functional ingredient in cosmetics, especially as a protective agent against UVB‐induced skin photoageing.

Improved extraction of multiclass cyanotoxins from soil and sensitive quantification with on-line purification liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry

Abstract:Cyanotoxins are associated with harmful cyanobacterial blooms, but also exist in biological soil crusts and soils irrigated with cyanobacteria-contaminated water. To achieve an accurate analysis of cyanotoxins in soil, effective extraction, purification and determination methods are imperative. The most challenging aspect is extracting cyanotoxins from soil, due to their tendency to bind strongly to the soil matrix. We used a methanol-ammonium acetate solution to efficiently extract 17 cyanotoxins (microcystins, cylindrospermopsin, anatoxins, anabaenopeptins, and cyanopeptolin) from soil. The extract was purified by on-line solid-phase extraction coupled with ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The optimized procedure involved two ultrasonication cycles of 15 min with 4 mL of methanol +200 mM ammonium acetate, which recovered 60% to >90% of the added cyanotoxins from five soils with diverse organic matter, pH and texture. The method improved extraction by up to 10 times compared to a methanol/water solution. Linearity, accuracy and precision were validated on matrix-mixed soil with surrogate microcystin and cylindrospermopsin internal standards. Limits of detection were 0.001–0.3 ng g−1, depending on the cyanotoxin. The method was used to analyze cyanotoxins in 25 field-collected soils from Quebec, Canada. Out of the 25 soil samples, 11 soils had at least one cyanotoxin, and up to 8 different cyanotoxins were detected in one soil. The sum of all microcystins congeners was from 0.02 to 31 ng microcystins g−1 soil. We also detected anabaenopeptin, the first reported occurrence of this cyanotoxin in soil.

Simultaneous Determination of Multi-Component Mycotoxin Contaminants in Foods and Feeds by Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry.

Abstract:The present study developed an improved analytical method for the simultaneous quantification of 17 kinds of Aspergillus, Fusarium and Penicillium mycotoxin contaminants in foods and feeds by ultra-performance liquid chromatography combined with electrospray ionization triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC–MS/MS) under the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode, and especially focused on the optimization of extraction, clean-up, UPLC separation and MS/MS parameters of analytes. Homogenized samples were sequentially extracted by 84% (v/v) of acetonitrile aqueous solution with the selected internal standard (zearalanone) spiking, SPE clean-up with Mycosep 226 Aflazon+ Multifunctional cartridges, filtration, concentration and secondary filtration. Using double sample injection method, the analytes were separated by UPLC BEH C18 column (100mm×2.1mm I.D., 1.7μm), and eluted with ammonium acetate/methanol and aqueous ammonia/methanol for the ESI+ and ESI− analysis, respectively. The 10 positive ions and 7 negative ions of mycotoxins were separated by gradient elution with the retention time of 6.5 and 4min, respectively. The LOQ of selected analytes ranged from 0.01 to 0.70μgkg−1, which was lower than the criteria of EU, USA and other countries on the determination of the minimum limiting level of various mycotoxins in foods including baby foods and feed stuffs. Meanwhile, high correlation coefficients (r2>0.99) of 17 mycotoxins were obtained within their respective linear ranges (0.05–20μgkg−1 for 10 positive ions and 0.5–50μgkg−1 for 7 negative ions) and reasonable recoveries (70.6–119.0%) of them were also demonstrated in different spiked levels. This quantitative method has many advantages including simple pretreatment, rapid determination and high sensitivity, which could be applied to the determination and quantification of multi-component mycotoxin contaminants in complex matrixes. Meanwhile, the method successfully fulfilled the minimum limiting level requests from various countries.
Simultaneous detection of nine cyanotoxins in drinking water using dual solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry

Abstract:A solid-phase extraction (SPE)-liquid chromatography (LC)-mass spectrometry (MS) method was developed to concentrate and detect nine cyanotoxins simultaneously, including six microcystins (MCs) congeners, nodularin (NOD), anatoxin-a (ATX) and cylindrospermopsin (CYN), in pure and natural waters. A dual cartridge SPE assembly was tested for the operating parameters of cyanotoxin extraction. A surrogate standard (SS), 1,9-diaminononane, was spiked in all the samples before the SPE extraction, and an internal standard (IS), 2,3,5-trimethylphenyl methyl carbamate, was spiked before LC/MS analysis. The method detection limit (MDL) was 2-100 ng/L for nine cyanotoxins in pure water and was increased by a factor of three to ten in a more complicated water matrix. The recoveries based on SS were between 83 and 104%, while those based on IS were 80-120%. The developed method was successfully employed in analyzing 33 water samples collected from eutrophic lakes, water treatment plants and distribution taps. MCs, NOD, and CYN were detected in the reservoir water, with concentrations as high as 36 μg/L. In addition, for the first time in Taiwan's tap water, CYN was detected at concentrations as high as 8.6 μg/L. Quality control data for the field samples shows that the analytical scheme developed is appropriate for monitoring cyanotoxins.

Detection of Anatoxins in Human Urine by Liquid Chromatography Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry and ELISA

Abstract:Harmful cyanobacterial blooms are becoming more common and persistent around the world. When in bloom, various cyanobacterial strains can produce anatoxins in high concentrations, which, unlike other cyanobacterial toxins, may be present in clear water. Potential human and animal exposures to anatoxins occur mainly through unintentional ingestion of contaminated algal mats and water. To address this public health threat, we developed and validated an LC-MS/MS method to detect anatoxins in human urine to confirm exposures. Pooled urine was fortified with anatoxin-a and dihydroanatoxin at concentrations from 10.0 to 500 ng/mL to create calibrators and quality control samples. Samples were diluted with isotopically labeled anatoxin and solvent prior to LC-MS/MS analysis. This method can accurately quantitate anatoxin-a with inter- and intraday accuracies ranging from 98.5 to 103% and relative standard deviations < 15%, which is within analytical guidelines for mass spectrometry methods. Additionally, this method qualitatively detects a common degradation product of anatoxin, dihydroanatoxin, above 10 ng/mL. We also evaluated a commercial anatoxin-a ELISA kit for potential diagnostic use; however, numerous false positives were detected from unexposed individual human urine samples. In conclusion, we have developed a method to detect anatoxins precisely and accurately in urine samples, addressing a public health area of concern, which can be applied to future exposure events.

Improving the Quantification of Cyanotoxins Using a Mass Balance-Based Effective Concentration-Equivalent Concentration Approach

Abstract:Two commonly used methods for cyanotoxin analysis are enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Each method has its advantages and disadvantages, and discrepancies are commonly observed between the two methods due to various factors including the ELISA antibody cross-reacting to different cyanotoxin congeners. However, reliable cyanotoxin monitoring methods and accurate interpretation of results are needed for water utilities to guide recreational water planning and drinking water treatment operations. In this study, we explored an innovative "effective concentration-equivalent concentration" (EC-EQ) approach to improve the interpretation of ELISA results and the comparison to LC-MS/MS results. The precision of ELISA results was first improved by reporting the sample ECs and EQs derived from their ELISA dose curves. Concentrations of each cyanotoxin as measured by LC-MS/MS were then combined with their respective ELISA cross-reactivities to calculate their theoretical ELISA responses. Finally, instead of comparing the results from the two methods directly, the equivalent concentration based on one single reference cyanotoxin was used for reporting and comparison. This integrated mass balance-based approach provides a more reliable interpretation of results by considering the reactivity differences between toxins as well as their mixture effects. This approach has been successfully applied to microcystin (one main group of cyanotoxins) standard mixtures and cyanobacterial bloom samples to interpret and compare their ELISA and LC-MS/MS detection results. The study provides guidance to utilities on how to obtain more accurate cyanotoxin monitoring results and better understand the discrepancy between the two methods.

Abstract:Biological toxin is a kind of important life phenomenon in nature, an important tool and the material basis to explore the secrets of life science and development of new drugs, and is also a key preventive treatment object in the field of food safety. Mycotoxin and marine biotoxins which are two kinds of natural toxic substances associated with food safety, have the characteristics of strong toxicity and pollute widely and a great harm to human health. Among the detection means of mycotoxin and marine biotoxin, the technique of liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) is widely used for its sensitive and efficient characteristics. Abstract:Prevalence and incidence of the marine toxins (paralytic, amnesic, and lipophilic toxins) including the so-called emerging toxins (these are, gymnodimines, pinnatoxins, or spirolides among others) have increased in recent years all over the world. Climate change, which is affecting the distribution of their producing phytoplankton species, is probably one of the main causes. Early detection of the toxins present in a particular area, and linking the toxins to their causative phytoplankton species are key tools to minimize the risk they pose for human consumers. The development of both types of studies requires fast and highly sensitive analytical methods. In the present work, we have developed a highly sensitive liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry methodology (LC-MS/MS), using a column with fused-core particle technology, for the determination of fourteen lipophilic toxins in a single run of 3.6 min. The performance of the method was evaluated for specificity, linearity, precision (repeatability and reproducibility) and accuracy by analysing spiked and naturally contaminated samples. The in-house validation was successful, and the limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) for all the toxins were far below their regulatory action limits. The method is suitable to be considered in monitoring systems of bivalves for food control.

Abstract:It is clear from the literature that numerous methods are available for most cyanotoxins, although many publications on monitoring data indicate that the favored approach is the use proven, robust methods for individual toxins. The most effective approach is the utilization of a robust rapid screen, where positive samples are followed up by qualitative and quantitative analysis to provide the essential decision making data needed for successful management strategies (Fig. 2). Currently, rapid screens are available for microcystins, saxitoxins and anatoxin-a(s), whilst optimisation and validation is needed, many publications report good correlation with the mouse bioassay and HPLC. There is an urgent need for rapid, simple, and inexpensive assays for cylindrospermopsins, anatoxin-a and BMAA. Although methods exist for analysis of BMAA, the fact that a recent study showed 95% of cyanobacteria producing this, some at levels > 6,000 microg g(-1) dry wt, is of concern and rapid screening followed by robust analysis needed. An ideal approach would be a single method capable of extracting and detecting all cyanotoxins. Several publications describe such approaches using LC-MS, but as expected from a group of compounds with diverse chemistry, there are obvious limitations in recoveries during sample processing, chromatographic performance and sensitivity (Dahlmann et al. 2003, Dell'Aversano et al. 2004, Pietsch et al. 2001). Selection of methods must be based on the application requirements, equipment available and cost. For many organisations it may be more cost effective to out-source the occasional analysis. However, as the incidence of blooms appears to be increasing, the need for more rigorous monitoring is needed, sensible investment is needed to meet recommended guidelines. Most of the methods discussed in this paper are suitable for achieving this goal, although clean-up and concentration is usually necessary for physicochemical methods.

Abstract:An ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS) method was established and validated for the simultaneous quantification of eight cyanogenic glucosides (CNGs) in agri-food. The eight CNGs were linamarin, lotaustralin, linustatin, neolinustatin, taxiphyllin, amygdalin, dhurrin and prunasin. CNGs were extracted with aqueous methanol and cleaned via solid-phase extraction. Analytes were separated with a C18 column via gradient elution. MS/MS analysis was performed with electrospray ionisation in positive mode. Quantification was performed in multiple reaction monitoring mode. Satisfactory validation results were obtained in terms of linearity, sensitivity, precision and accuracy, matrix effect and stability. The method was applied in typical cyanogenic agri-food. CNGs in cassava, linseed, bamboo, sorghum, apricot, almond and lima bean were analyzed.

Abstract:A generic procedure, which involved accelerated solvent extraction and homemade cleanup cartridges, has been developed for the extraction and purification of 35 mycotoxins in various traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) matrixes, i.e., rhizomes and roots, seeds, flowers, and grasses and leaves, for subsequent analysis by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). All target analytes could be simultaneously quantitated in less than 17 min per run, showing narrow symmetrical peaks. The developed method was also successfully applied in routine monitoring programs, which implied a significant reduction of both effort and time, to investigate the contamination of TCMs. Among 60 commercial TCMs analyzed, 50 were positive. The achieved data underpin the practical application of the UHPLC-MS/MS method as a valuable tool for the trace analysis of multiple mycotoxins in TCMs.

Abstract:Anatoxin-a (ATX-a) is a potent neurotoxin produced by several species of cyanobacteria whose exposure can have direct consequences, including neurological disorders and death. The increasing prevalence of harmful cyanobacterial blooms makes the detection and reliable assessment of ATX-a levels essential to prevent the risk associated with public health. Therefore, the aim of this review is to compile the analytical methods developed to date for the detection and quantification of ATX-a levels alone and in mixtures with other cyanotoxins and their suitability. A classification of the analytical methods available is fundamental to make an appropriate choice according to the type of sample, the equipment available, and the required sensitivity and specificity for each specific purpose. The most widely used detection technique for the quantification of this toxin is liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The analytical methods reviewed herein focus mainly on water and cyanobacterial samples, so the need for validated analytical methods in more complex matrices (vegetables and fish) for the determination of ATX-a to assess dietary exposure to this toxin is evidenced. There is currently a trend towards the validation of multitoxin methods as opposed to single-ATX-a determination methods, which corresponds to the real situation of cyanotoxins' confluence in nature.
