Abstract:In this study, we address the significant challenge of overcoming limitations in catalytic efficiency for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The current linear scaling relationships hinder the optimization of electrocatalytic performance. To tackle this issue, we investigate the potential of designing single-atom catalysts (SACs) on Mo$_2$CO$_2$ MXenes for electrochemical OER using first-principles modeling simulations. By employing the Electrochemical Step Symmetry Index (ESSI) method, we assess OER intermediates to fine-tune activity and identify the optimal SAC for Mo$_2$CO$_2$ MXenes. Our findings reveal that both Ag and Cu exhibit effectiveness as single atoms for enhancing OER activity on Mo$_2$CO$_2$ MXenes. However, among the 21 chosen transition metals (TMs) in this study, Cu stands out as the best catalyst for tweaking the overpotential ($\eta_{OER}$). This is due to Cu's lowest overpotential compared to other TMs, which makes it more favorable for OER performance. On the other hand, Ag is closely aligned with ESSI=$\eta_{OER}$, making the tuning of its overpotential more challenging. Furthermore, we employ symbolic regression analysis to identify the significant factors that exhibit a correlation with the OER overpotential. By utilizing this approach, we derive mathematical formulas for the overpotential and identify key descriptors that affect catalytic efficiency in electrochemical OER on Mo$_2$CO$_2$ MXenes. This comprehensive investigation not only sheds light on the potential of MXenes in advanced electrocatalytic processes but also highlights the prospect of improved activity and selectivity in OER applications.

Abstract:Electronic structure of single-atom catalysts (SACs) is critical for bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis by adjusting the binding energy in oxygen-containing intermediates. However, the regulation of electronic structure has always been a challenge to improve catalytic reactivity. Herein, by introducing a heterogenous metal, the electronic structure through a direct bonding interaction to the active center atom is effectively adjusted. Partial charge transfer between the two atoms optimizes the binding energy of intermediates and reducing the energy barrier of the catalytic reaction. Theoretical calculations confirm these effects and the uniform distribution of 3d orbitals, leading to the improvement of bifunctional oxygen electrocatalytic reactivity. Benefiting from these attributes, the as-constructed bifunctional catalyst enables outstanding electrocatalytic performances in both oxygen reduction and hydrogen oxidation in various energy storage systems. The generality and expandability of this strategy is demonstrated by further successful development of other dual-metal catalysts systems with various active metals.
Reasonable Design of MXene-Supported Dual-Atom Catalysts with High Catalytic Activity for Hydrogen Evolution and Oxygen Evolution Reaction: A First-Principles Investigation

Abstract:MXene-supported single-atom catalysts (SACs) for water splitting has attracted extensive attention. However, the easy aggregation of individual metal atoms used as catalytic active centers usually leads to the relatively low loading of synthetic SACs, which limits the development and application of SACs. Herein, by performing first-principles calculations for Pt and 3d transition metal single atoms immobilized on a two-dimensional (2D) Mo2TiC2O2 MXene surface, we systematically studied the performance of heterogeneous dual-atom catalysts (h-DACs) in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Significantly, h-DACs exhibit higher metal atom loading and more flexible active sites compared to SACs. Benefiting from these features, we found that Pt/Cu@Mo2TiC2O2 heterogeneous DACs exhibits excellent HER activity with ultra-low overpotential |ΔGH∗| (0.04 eV), lower than the corresponding Pt@Mo2TiC2O2 (0.14 eV) and Cu@Mo2TiC2O2 (0.33 eV) SACs, and even lower than that of Pt (0.09 eV). Meanwhile, Pt/Ni@Mo2TiC2O2 exhibits superior OER activity with ultra-low overpotential ηOER (0.38 V), lower than that of Pt@Mo2TiC2O2 (1.11 V) and Ni@Mo2TiC2O2 (0.57 V) SACs, and even lower than that of RuO2 (0.42 V) and IrO2 (0.56 V). Our finding paves the way for the rational design of h-DACs for HER and OER with excellent activity, which provides guidance for other catalytic reactions.

Abstract:The growing interest in single-atom catalysts (SACs) can be attributed to the continuous updates and iterations in their synthesis process. The SACs exhibit remarkable advantages, including exceptional catalytic activity, excellent selectivity, and tunable reactivity to meet the specific requirements of diverse reactions. Consequently, SACs have emerged as pivotal players in numerous scientific domains. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), as pivotal fundamental reactions, hold significant research value. In this work, a novel kind of SACs based on an electride/monolayer MoS2 heterostructure is predicted by using first-principles calculations. The anionic electron layer formed between the electride and MoS2 can effectively modulate the charge distribution on the surface of MoS2, thereby enabling indirect manipulation of the performance of the SACs. There exists a robust linear correlation between the adsorption energy and charge variation, and serving as a pivotal descriptor of catalyst performance. The energy difference between the O* process structure and slab structure exhibits a strong linear correlation with the overpotential in OER reactions, making it a valuable criterion for efficient screening of electride-based heterogeneous catalysts which streamlining the screening process for OER catalysts. The present study offers a novel strategy for enhancing the catalytic performance of SACs.

Abstract:Single‐atom catalysts (SACs) have great potential in electrocatalysis. Their performance can be rationally optimized by tailoring the center metal atoms, adjacent coordinative dopants, and metal loading. However, it is still of great challenge due to the limited synthesis approach and insufficient understanding of the structure‐property relation. Herein, we reported a new kind of Mo SAC with a unique O, S‐dual coordination and a high metal loading over 10 wt%. The isolation feature and local environment was identified by high‐angle annular dark‐field scanning transmission electron microscopy and extended X‐ray absorption fine structure. The obtained SACs can catalyze oxygen reduction reaction via 2e– pathway with a high H2O2 selectivity above 95% in 0.10 M KOH. The critical role of Mo single atoms and the coordination structure was revealed by both electrochemical tests and theoretical calculations. This work enriches the family of SACs and highlights the importance of local coordination, thus rendering new opportunities to tune the activity and selectivity in multi‐electron electrocatalysis.

Abstract:Electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction (CO 2 RR) to CO is a logical approach to achieve a carbon–neutral cycle. In this work, a series of Ti 2 CO 2 and O vacancy containing Ti 2 CO 2 MXene-based transition metal (TM) single atom catalysts (SACs), including TM-Ti 2 CO 2 and TM-O v -Ti 2 CO 2 , are explored for high-performance CO 2 RR. Sc/Ti/V/Cr-Ti 2 CO 2 and Ni-O v -Ti 2 CO 2 are screened out with limiting potential (U L ) more positive than −0.50 V. Ni-O v -Ti 2 CO 2 is a candidate catalyst for CO 2 RR to CO, considering its activity with U L of −0.27 eV, and the selectivity relevant to hydrogen evolution reaction and HCOOH production. Meanwhile, a novel activity descriptor of TM-Ti-O group valence state is proposed according to that TMs work in synergy with coordinated Ti and O atoms and a level of around 0.64 e - benefits to CO 2 RR. This work highlights oxygen vacancy containing Ti 2 CO 2 -based Ni SAC as a promising catalyst for CO 2 RR, and provides a feasible electronic structure design principle for guiding the design of MXene-based SACs for CO 2 RR.

Abstract:Oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reaction are pivotal in energy conversion. Herein, we systematically studied the catalytic performance of Pt-doped dual transition metal (DTM) Janus-MXenes as single-atom catalysts (SACs) using first-principles calculations and established machine learning (ML) models to explore the physical and chemical properties affecting the catalytic overpotential. Specifically, the stability of Janus-MXenes was first explored through cohesive energies, phonon dispersion and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations. The electronic properties of Pt-doped Janus-MXenes were investigated next. Some excellent catalysts, including Pt-V O -MnTiCO 2 ( ηORR/OER =0.24/0.38 V) and Pt-V O -PdTiCO 2 ( ηORR/OER =0.33/0.36 V), were found because of their ultralow overpotential. It's attributed to the tuning of the electronic properties of SACs by DTM. Importantly, ML models were used to reveal the importance of descriptors affecting overpotential, thereby uncovering the origin of the catalytic activity of SACs. Our work significantly reduces the research costs of SACs and serves as a guide for designing high-performance catalysts.

Abstract:Proposing a direct pathway combining theoretical prediction with anchoring high‐valence Mo on CoMOF@NF to reveal the mechanism of the OER reaction. Systematically investigate the catalytic mechanism and the relationship between the electrocatalytic performance of Mo‐CoMOF@NF and its electronic microstructure and conductivity. Study of catalyst OER performance by quantitative components. The electrocatalyst exhibits excellent long‐term stability. Elucidating the correlation of active sites and catalytic activity in multi‐component metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is key to understanding the mechanism of oxygen evolution reaction (OER), yet it remains nebulous. Herein, a direct pathway combining theoretical prediction with anchoring high‐valence metals is proposed on MOFs to reveal the mechanism of the OER reaction. Density functional theory (DFT) predicts that the co‐modulation by Mo and Co atoms can enhance the conductance of CoMOF and optimize the adsorption‐free energies of the OER intermediates. Guided by the theoretical prediction, the Co‐based MOFs grown on Ni foams are doped with high valence Mo, which is used as model catalysts for the quantitative study of the composition‐dependent OER performance. With Co/Mo in the ratio of 5:1 for the highest OER activity (impressively overpotential of 324 mV at 100 mA cm−2 and a Tafel slope of 96.07 mV dec−1) and excellent stability (maintains for 200 h at 100 mA cm−2), the catalysts in this work is superior to commercial benchmarks electrocatalysts (RuO2/NF, 420 mV, 199.12 mV dec−1). This work sheds light on the tailoring of the active sites of MOFs, which is highly correlated with the activity of the OER.

Abstract:Herein, we systematically performed the comparative analysis of 24 transition metals single-atom catalysts (SACs) supported on MXene (Mo2CT2; T = O or S) surface for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and investigated their electronic structures, geometries, stabilities, selectivity, and catalytic activities by using first-principles calculations. The molecular dynamics and thermal stabilities of MXene (Mo2CO2 and Mo2CS2) monolayers were first investigated by using AIMD simulations and phonon dispersion spectra. Based on the Volmer-Heyrovsky pathway, TM/Mo2CO2 (TM = Ti, V, Cr, Co, Mo, Tc, Ru) and TM/Mo2CS2(TM = Cr, Mn, Fe, Zn, Tc, Ru, W, Pt) SACs exhibited good catalytic performance for HER and their Delta GH* values are close to the optimum value (Delta GH* -> 0). The calculated Delta GH* values of Ti/Mo2CO2, Mo/Mo2CO2, Tc/Mo2CO2, Ru/Mo2CO2, Zn/Mo2CS2, W/Mo2CS2, Cr/Mo2CS2, and Pt/Mo2CS2 are equal or better than Pt (111) catalyst, making them active and selective catalysts for HER. Moreover, Mo/Mo2CO2 and Pt/Mo2CS2 catalysts exhibited outstanding catalytic performance towards HER much better than the Pt (111) catalyst. Therefore, the present investigation would provide a useful guideline for experimentalists to design MXene-based transition metals SACs for HER and other electrochemical applications.
Tailoring Coordination Fields of Asymmetric MO5S1‐Type Metal–Organic Frameworks Catalysts for Accelerated Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Abstract:The symmetry‐breaking strategy is employed for constructing the MO5S1‐type metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) catalyst (S‐NiFe‐MOF/CFP). Benefiting from its distinctive asymmetric coordination configuration with optimized charge distributions, the S‐NiFe‐MOF/CFP catalyst possesses a significantly reduced energy barrier in the rate‐determining step with enhanced O–H bond cleavage process, resulting in remarkable catalytic performance toward OER and anion exchange membrane water electrolysis cell. Asymmetric coordination has emerged as a promising approach to enhance the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, yet achieving a controlled synthesis of asymmetric structures to comprehensively understand the structure‐activity relationship remains challenging. In this study, a facile and effective symmetry‐breaking strategy is reported for tailoring the asymmetric MO5S1‐type metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) catalyst, establishing the correlation between the sulfur (S)‐mediated electron rearrangement and the adsorption/desorption dynamics of oxygen‐related intermediates in OER. Experimental and theoretical calculations reveal that a well‐designed asymmetric structure can effectively lower the d‐band center, optimizing the adsorption behavior of OH* and significantly decreasing the reaction energy barrier for the rate‐determining step (OH* → O*) with enhanced O–H bond cleavage process. The S‐NiFe‐MOF/CFP catalyst demonstrates a remarkable OER performance in an alkaline electrolyte environment. More importantly, the self‐assembled anion exchange membrane water electrolysis cell showcases a low voltage of 1.84 V to deliver the current density of 1 A cm−2, maintaining long‐term stability for over 100 h. This study unveils a precise asymmetric synthesis strategy employing S, highlighting the critical role of manipulating electron redistribution through asymmetric coordination to promote catalytic activity and develop advanced MOF‐based catalysts.

Abstract:High-throughput DFT calculations are performed to explore the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalytic activity of a series of 2D graphene-based systems with TMO 3 or TMO 4 functional units. By screening the 3d/4d/5d transition metal (TM) atoms, a total of twelve TMO 3 @G or TMO 4 @G systems had extremely low overpotential of 0.33 ∼ 0.59 V, in which the V/Nb/Ta atom in VB group and Ru/Co/Rh/Ir atom in VIII group served as the active sites. The mechanism analysis reveals that the filling of outer electrons of TM atom can play an important role in determining the overpotential value by affecting the ΔG O* value as an effective descriptor. Especially, in addition to the general situation of OER on the clean surface of the systems containing the Rh/Ir metal centers, the self-optimization process of TM-sites was carried out, and it made most of these single-atom catalysts (SAC) systems to have high OER catalytic activity. All these fascinating findings can contribute to an in-depth understanding of the OER catalytic activity and mechanism of the excellent graphene-based SAC systems. This work will facilitate the design and implementation of non-precious and highly efficient OER catalysts in the near future.

Abstract:MXenes have been widely used as substrates of hybrid electrocatalysts for water splitting due to their stability and metallic properties. However, tuning MXenes towards superb hydrogen/oxygen evolution reaction (HER/OER) activity has remained elusive. Using first‐principles calculations along with machine learning (ML) based descriptors, it is shown that late transition metal doping is able to significantly promote HER/OER activities. Both single‐atom adsorption onto a stable hollow site above the outer oxygen layer single‐atom catalyst 1 (SAC1), and single‐atom replacement at a sub‐surface metal layer (SAC2) are considered. An adsorbate evolving mechanism (AEM) is preferred for SAC1, while the increased M‐O bond covalency for SAC2 makes lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) favored. It is found that a single Ni or Co atom embedded into MXenes provides a suitable number of electrons for optimal AEM and raises the O 2p band towards activated LOM. The stability and superb bifunctional catalytic capability of MXene combinations (Ni‐doped Sc3N2O2 and Ni‐doped Nb3C2O2) towards both HER and OER are demonstrated. The electronic and geometric descriptors used in the ML analysis work universally for classification of high‐performing HER/OER catalysts. This work provides a rational strategy for promoting bifunctional electrocatalytic activities based on low‐cost MXenes metals. First‐principles calculations along with machine learning‐based descriptors are used to systematically screen promising water splitting catalysts. It is found that a single Ni or Co atom embedded into MXenes via different mechanistic pathways is able to promote hydrogen/oxygen evolution reaction activities. Ni‐doped Sc3N2O2 shows stability and bifunctional catalytic capability that are much better than commercially used noble metal catalysts.

Abstract:Hydrogen production from electrolytic water is considered a viable method for hydrogen production with significant social value due to its clean and pollution‐free nature, high hydrogen production efficiency and purity, but the anode oxygen evolution reaction (OER) process is complex and kinetically slow. Single atom catalysts (SACs) with 100% atom utilization and homogeneous active sites often exhibit high catalytic activity and are expected to be extensively applied. The catalytic performance of OER can be further improved by precise regulation of the structure through electronic effects, coordination environment, hybrid atom doping and so on. In this review, we introduce the mechanisms of OER under different conditions, systematically summarize the latest research progress of SACs in the field of OER, then discuss the effects of various structural regulation strategies on catalytic performance, and propose principles and ideas for the design of SACs for OER. Structural Evolution and Underlying Mechanism of Single-Atom Centers on Mo 2 C(100) Support during Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Abstract:The single-metal atoms coordinating with the surface atoms of the support constitute the active centers of as-prepared single-atom catalysts (SACs). However, under hash electrochemical conditions, (1) supports' surfaces may experience structural change, which turn to be distinct from those at ambient conditions; (2) during catalysis, the dynamic responses of a single atom to the attack of reaction intermediates likely change the coordination environment of a single atom. These factors could alter the performance of SACs. Herein, we investigate these issues using Mo2C(100)-supported single transition-metal (TM) atoms as model SACs toward catalyzing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). It is found that the Mo2C(100) surface is oxidized under ORR turnover conditions, resulting in significantly weakened bonding between single TM atoms and the Mo2C(100) surface (2C(100)_O* term for SAC). While the intermediate in 2 e– ORR does not change the local structures of the active centers in these SACs, the O* intermediate emerging in 4 e– ORR can damage and 2C(100)_O*. Sulfur coordination engineering of molybdenum single-atom for dual-functional oxygen reduction/evolution catalysis

Abstract:Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysis are required in metal-air batteries and an efficient dual-functional single-atom catalyst (SAC) is still lacking. This is partly because of the limited synthesis strategies to modify the coordination environment of metal centers in SACs. Herein, we report a genetic strategy, transformation from thiometallate anions in the precursor to metal-sulfur bonding in carbon, producing hollow-sphere-structured Mo SAC with O/N/S co-coordination as an efficient ORR/OER dual-functional catalyst. The MoS4 2−-doped polydopamine have O/S co-coordination for Mo, which converts into S/O/N co-coordination in carbon during pyrolysis. We established that coordination engineering, specifically S coordination, could boost the ORR catalysis of Mo SAC. The low ORR half-wave potential (E1/2) and small Tafel slope are among the best of Mo-based non-noble metal catalysts. The OER overpotential of 303 mV at 10 mA cm−2 is significantly lower than that of commercial IrO2, and Pt/C. Assembled Zn-air batteries can work steadily for 90 h without significant voltage decay. Our strategy can be extended to the synthesis of other group-V and group-VI metal hollow SACs with an S coordination, such as W.

Solving the Trifunctional Activity Challenge of Catalysts in Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cells via 1T-MoS 2 -Coordinated Single Pd Atoms

Abstract:Developing high-efficiency and low-cost multifunctional electrocatalysts is the core of unitized regenerative fuel cells (URFC), yet it remains a great challenge. Here, by performing first-principles calculations, we report the atomic-level electrocatalytic activity mechanism of 3d, 4d, and 5d monoatomic transition metals (TM) bound to the 1T-MoS2 monolayer for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Their structural stabilities are evaluated via the formation energy, elastic constant, and molecular dynamics simulations. Compared with the Co–N4–C single atom catalyst (SAC), the resulting 2 SAC exhibits better bifunctional catalytic activity, with OER overpotential as low as 0.43 V and an ORR overpotential of 0.40 V. The dual volcano plot demonstrates that the bifunctional OER and ORR activities of 2 originate from the neither strong nor weak OH* adsorption and the suitable d-band center (−1.83 eV) of the Pd active center. In conjunction with the intrinsic activity of the 1T-MoS2 monolayer for hydrogen evolution reaction, the 2 SAC is a competitive and promising trifunctional electrocatalyst for sustainable energy conversion and storage systems.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:The role of 2D transition metal carbides, also known as MXenes, as active catalyst supports in Co-based oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts was elucidated through a combination of experimental and computation electrochemistry. Through facile seeding of commericial Co nanoparticles on three different MXene supports (Ti 3 C 2 T x , Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x , Mo 2 CT x ), Co@MXene catalysts were prepared and their electrochemical properties examined for alkaline OER electrocatalysts. The OER activity enhancement of Co was significantly improved for Mo 2 CT x and Mo 2 Ti 2 C 3 T x supports, but marginal on the Ti 3 C 2 T x in rotating disk electrode and membrane electrode assembly tests. The Co@Mo 2 CT x exhibited the highest anion exchange water electrolysis performance of 2.11 A cm −2 at 1.8 V with over 700 h of stable performance, exceeding previous benchmarks for non-platinum group (non-PGM) metal OER catalysts. The superior performance was attributed to the strong chemical interaction of Co nanoparticle with the Mo 2 CT x MXene support. Insights into the electrochemical and chemical oxidation according to MXene type as related to cell durability, as well the effect of electrical conductivity and inherent boosting of electrocatalytic activity of Mo-based MXenes elucidated through density functional theory (DFT) calculations helped explain the performance and durability enhancement of Mo-based MXene supports over Ti 3 C 2 T x supports.

Abstract:Designing atomically dispersed metal catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a promising approach to achieve efficient energy conversion. Herein, we develop a template-assisted method to synthesize a series of single metal atoms anchored on porous N,S-codoped carbon (NSC) matrix as highly efficient ORR catalysts to investigate the correlation between the structure and their catalytic performance. The structure analysis indicates that an identical synthesis method results in distinguished structural differences between Fe-centered single-atom catalyst (Fe-SAs/NSC) and Co-centered/Ni-centered single-atom catalysts (Co-SAs/NSC and Ni-SAs/NSC) because of the different trends of each metal ion in forming a complex with the N,S-containing precursor during the initial synthesis process. The Fe-SAs/NSC mainly consists of a well-dispersed FeN4S2 center site where S atoms form bonds with the N atoms. The S atoms in Co-SAs/NSC and Ni-SAs/NSC, on the other hand, form metal–S bonds, resulting in CoN3S1 and NiN3S1 center sites. Density functional theory (DFT) reveals that the FeN4S2 center site is more active than the CoN3S1 and NiN3S1 sites, due to the higher charge density, lower energy barriers of the intermediates, and products involved. The experimental results indicate that all three single-atom catalysts could contribute high ORR electrochemical performances, while Fe-SAs/NSC exhibits the highest of all, which is even better than commercial Pt/C. Furthermore, Fe-SAs/NSC also displays high methanol tolerance as compared to commercial Pt/C and high stability up to 5000 cycles. This work provides insights into the rational design of the definitive structure of single-atom catalysts with tunable electrocatalytic activities for efficient energy conversion.

Abstract:To efficiently control oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at electrocatalysts holds enormous promise for large-scale production of clean energy, but faces the scarcity of practical regulation strategies due to underexplored catalytic mechanism. Herein, a facile and feasible strategy is developed involving metal-metal super-exchange interaction to manipulate the electronic state configuration of catalysts, and the as-synthesized Ni-doped Co-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) only require an overpotential as low as 260 mV to reach a large current of 200 mA cm−2, which is much lower than 400 mV for the commercial RuO2 catalyst. The introduced Ni atoms lead to more broadly occupied states and d-band center close to the Fermi energy level for the spin-polarization of the electrons in Co atoms, thus decreasing the orbital occupancy to facilitate the adsorption/desorption of the reaction intermediates and lowering the rate-determining step barrier to accelerate OER. Our findings have an important paradigm role in the design of electrocatalysts with high performance for oxygen evolution reaction.
The Microstructure–Activity Relationship of Metal–Organic Framework-Based Electrocatalysts for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction at the Single-Particle Level

Abstract:Metal–organic framework (MOF)-based materials have garnered attention as promising candidates for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reactions (OER). However, it remains a challenge to understanding the structure–activity relationship of these materials at the single-particle level due to the limited resolution of characterizations. Here, we present an efficient approach that combines a single-particle-at-the-tip technique with scanning electrochemical cell microscopy to reveal a relationship between the microstructure and electrochemical activity for sheet-like nickel-based MOF particles. We find a negative correlation between the sheet thickness and the OER activity based on statistical data at the single-particle level. The origin of the enhanced OER activity can be rationalized by the larger fraction of the (001) facet. Simultaneously, the derivation process of catalysts is documented to ensure the accuracy of structural information. This study enables a simple single-entity electrochemical strategy to understand the microstructure–activity relationship of MOF-based catalysts (MOF-C) and offers new insights into the design of high-performance MOF-C.
