Abstract:Abstract Background ABO blood groups has been associated with risk of several cancers; however, the results for an association with ovarian cancer are inconsistent and little is known about the expression of histo‐blood group (ABH) antigens and ABO gene in ovarian tumor tissues. Methods To assess the impact of genotype‐derived ABO blood types on the risk of EOC, we conducted a case–control study in 1,870 EOC and 4,829 controls. Expression of A and B antigen in 70 pairs of ovarian tumor tissues and adjacent normal tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Gene expression and DNA methylation profiling was conducted in ovarian tumor tissues. Results We identified that blood group A was associated with increased risk for EOC compared to blood group O (OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.03–1.36, p = 0.019). Increased frequency of aberrant expression of histo‐blood group antigens was observed in patients with blood group A (76.5%) compared to patients with blood group O (21.1%) and B (5.0%) by immunohistochemistry (p < 0.001). ABO gene expression was down‐regulated in ovarian tumor tissues compared with paired adjacent normal tissues (p = 0.027). In addition, ABO gene expression was positively correlated with NFYB (r = 0.38, p < 0.001) and inversely correlated with DNA methylation level of four CpG sites on ABO gene (cg11879188, r = − 0.3, p = 0.002; cg22535403, r = − 0.30, p = 0.002; cg13506600, r = − 0.22, p = 0.025; cg07241568, r = − 0.21, p = 0.049) in ovarian tumor tissues. Conclusion We identified blood group A was associated with increased EOC risk in Chinese women and provided the clues of the possible molecular mechanisms of blood group A related to ovarian cancer risk.
Evaluation of the Association of Blood Group Type with Tumor Location, Polyp Type, and Colorectal Cancer Risk: A Case-control Study

Abstract:Background: Colorectal cancer (CC) is one of the most important causes of death due to cancer in the world. The association of blood groups with CC in many races has been reported in previous studies. So far, no study has evaluated the relationship between blood group type, tumor location, and polyp type. Objectives: This study aimed at evaluating the association of the ABO blood group and CC, tumor location, and polyp type. Methods: In this case-control study, 802 subjects (401 cases and 401 controls), who underwent surgery at our medical centers between 2014 and 2021, were included. The case group was selected from the hospital records of patients with CC, and the controls were selected from non-cancer patients who were admitted to the same centers for reasons other than cancer. Patients’ demographic characteristics and clinical and pathology findings were extracted from the medical profile, and blood group information was extracted from the blood bank. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used for the predictive variables of CC. Results: The risk of CC in patients with blood type A was significantly higher than non-A. While the risk of developing CC in patients with blood type O was significantly lower than non-O O. The risk of developing neoplastic polyps was significantly higher in patients with blood type A compared to non-A. The results of multivariate analysis showed that ABO blood type A (OR Adju: 1.66) and O (OR Adju: 0.78) and neoplastic polyp type (OR Adju: 1.36,) were associated with CC. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that ABO blood group type was significantly related to CC and polyp type.
Risk Factors for Breast Cancer in Iranian Women: A Hospital-Based Case-Control Study in Tabriz, Iran

Abstract:PURPOSE: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide and the leading cause of cancer death among women. In Asian countries such as Iran, the incidence of breast cancer is increasing. The present study aimed to assess the risk factors for breast cancer of women in Tabriz, Iran.METHODS: A hospital-based case-control study was undertaken to identify breast cancer risk factors. The study consisted of 140 cases confirmed via histopathological analysis and 280 group-matched controls without any malignancy. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods via the SPSS software version 18.RESULTS: In a multivariate analysis, educational level (odds ratio [OR], 4.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.11-10.83), menopausal status (OR, 2.54; 95% CI, 1.41-4.59), a high-fat diet (OR, 2.76; 95% CI, 1.51-5.04), abortion (OR, 2.13; 95% CI, 1.20-3.79), passive smoking (OR, 2.76; 95% CI, 1.51-5.04), oral contraceptive use (OR, 3.18; 95% CI, 1.80-5.59), stress (OR, 3.05; 95% CI, 1.74-5.36), and migration (OR, 3.09; 95% CI, 1.39-6.90) were factors associated with a significantly increased risk of breast cancer. Breastfeeding (OR, 0.39; 95% CI, 0.16-0.97) and a diet containing sufficient fruit and vegetables (OR, 0.22; 95% CI, 0.12-0.39) had protective roles against breast cancer.CONCLUSION: The study revealed that the risk factors for breast cancer among women in the Tabriz area of Iran are related to the lifestyle. Therefore, the provision of education to change unhealthy lifestyle choices and periodic check-ups for early breast cancer detection are recommended.

Abstract:Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The survival rate after hepatectomy as the first line of treatment for HCC depends on various factors. This study evaluated the association of the ABO blood group and Rh with overall survival (OS) and Recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate after hepatectomy. Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study reviewed the medical files of 639 HCC patients who underwent hepatectomy from 2010 to 2022 in three medical centers affiliated with the Iran University of Medical Sciences. Patient data, including demographic, clinical, tumor characteristics, and post-surgery outcomes, were collected by referring to the patient's medical profiles. The Cox proportional hazard investigated the relationship between ABO blood group type and OS and RFS rate after hepatectomy. Results: The five-year OS and RFS rates were 25.4% and 18.7%, respectively. The five-year OS (Lok rank:40.89, P:0.001) and RFS rate in patients with blood type A were significantly lower than in non-A patients. (Lok rank:10.8, P:0.001) The multivariate Cox analysis showed that blood type A, age < 45 years, tumor size > 5 cm, Poor tumor differentiation, presence of metastasis, The number of involved lymph nodes ≤ 2, and serum Alpha-Fetoprotein)AFP( level ≥ 400 were significantly related to the decreased survival rate of HCC patients after hepatectomy (P < 0.05) There was no significant association between Rh with OS and RFS (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Blood group type A, compared to non-A, can be associated with decreased OS and RFS rates in patients with HCC after hepatectomy.

Abstract:Background: Cervical cancer is the most common genital cancer worldwide and is mainly caused by a persistent human papillomavirus infection. Well-known prognostic factors are age, histology, stage, stromal invasion, tumor size, and tumor grade. The relationship between the ABO and Rh system with cervical cancer has been studied since the 1950s, though without obtaining clear results. Here we investigated the association between the ABO blood group and Rh system and consecutively treated cervical cancer patients in our department. Methods: Clinical charts of cervical cancer patients treated and followed from 2010 to 2021 were checked for inclusion and exclusion criteria. Clinical and pathological data were recorded in a separate, anonymous, password-protected electronic database. All relevant data were extrapolated and used for final analysis. Results: A population of 143 cervical cancer patients was analyzed in this study. 47.6% (68/143) were blood group O, 36.4% (52/143) were blood group A, 8.4% (12/143) were blood group AB, and 7.7% (11/143) were blood group B. 14.9% (21/141) were RhD negative, while 85.1% (120/141) were RhD positive. No significant association was found between the ABO group and survival. However, patients with blood types B and AB had a higher BMI than the other blood types. RhD-negative patients exhibited a lower age at diagnosis (P=0.035) and had a higher overall survival compared to RhD-positive patients. Conclusions: The RhD factor appears to influence cervical cancer OS, but the data are too weakly significant to draw a definitive conclusion. Further studies with larger samples are needed to confirm this finding and to investigate the true impact of blood groups in female cancers.

Abstract:Background: The associations of laboratory-based ABO phenotypes with cancer risks and mortality have not been systematically determined.Methods: The study subjects were 339,432 healthy individuals with laboratory-based blood types from a Taiwan cohort.Results: Compared to blood type O, blood type A was significantly associated with an elevated risk of stomach cancer incidence (Hazard Ratio [HR], 1.38 [95% CI, 1.11-1.72]) and mortality (HR, 1.38 [95% CI, 1.02-1.86]) compared with blood type O, after adjusting for age, sex, education, smoking, alcohol drinking, physical activity, and body mass index. Non-O blood types were associated with an elevated risk of pancreatic cancer, with blood type B reaching statistical significance for incidence (HR, 1.59 [95% CI, 1.02-2.48]) and mortality (HR, 1.63 [95% CI, 1.02-2.60]). In contrast, kidney cancer risk was inversely associated with blood type AB (HR, 0.41 [95% CI, 0.18-0.93]) compared to type O.Conclusion: Cancer risks vary in people with different ABO blood types, with elevated risks of stomach cancer associated with blood type A and pancreatic cancer associated with non-O blood types (A, B, and AB). Abstract:Background: Breast cancer is one of the most important causes of cancer deaths in women. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between demographic factors and known risk factors with breast cancer in women aged 30-69. Method: This case-control study was conducted with two matched and unmatched control groups. Three hundred fifty women aged 30-69 with breast cancer, 350 age-matched women without cancer, and 350 not age-matched women were included in the study. Controls were selected from the records of women whose breast cancer screening results were normal. Study subjects were evaluated regarding the risk factors for breast cancer. The data collection tool was a checklist including the risk factors investigated in the integrated health system. The collected data were analyzed utilizing SPSS22 software at a significance level of less than 0.05. Results: The average age in the case group was 46.63±11.77 years and 49.61±8.39 in the unmatched control group. The average age of marriage in the case group was 21.54±4.31, and the average age of women at first pregnancy in the case group was 24.06±3.39 years. In the case group, 163 people (46.57%) lived in the city, 221 people (63.14%) were over 40 years old, and 337 people (96.28%) were married. In multivariate analysis, the variable 'age of marriage' 0.821 (0.691-0.976) and 'age of first pregnancy' 1.213 (1.020-1.443) showed a significant relationship with breast cancer which were observed as predictors of breast cancer in comparison to the unmatched control group (P-value <0.05). Conclusion: The age of the first pregnancy and the type of delivery were observed as predictors of breast cancer. Therefore, by performing breast cancer screening in women who are exposed to these risk factors, early diagnosis of the disease and increasing the speed of their treatment can be significantly helped.
Distributions and prognostic effects of ABO/Rh blood groups in patients with HER2/neu positive gastric and gastroesophageal junction cancer

Abstract:Background: The aim of study was to look at ABO/Rh blood types frequency and prognostic significance in patients with HER2/neu positive gastric cancer. Methods: The study was designed retrospectively. Clinicopathological characteristics, treatment approaches, and the ABO/Rh blood groups features were noted. The ABO/Rh blood types for patients and healthy donors were compared by the Chi-square method. Results: The average age was 61 years. The average survival time was 17.9 months (13.2-22.5). ABO blood types frequencies were not similar between patients (25.9% O, 6.3% AB, 57.1% A, and 10.7% B) and control group (34.9% O, 7.9% AB, 41.9% A, and 15.3% B) (P = 0.01). Patients and controls had the same Rh factor distribution (P = 0.07). Conclusions: We showed that A blood group frequency was increased in patients with HER2/neu receptor-positive gastric cancer than in a healthy population. Also, we detected that the frequency of O blood type was decreased. ABO/Rh blood types were not linked with prognosis for overall survival.
ABO blood types and head and neck cancer: a systematic review with meta-analysis of observational studies

Abstract:Objectives This research aims to explore the correlation between ABO blood groups and neoplasms in the head and neck region, specifically investigating the susceptibility of different blood groups to tumours. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. Data sources CNKI, WANFANG DATA, PubMed, Web of Science and Embase databases were systematically searched from inception to January 2024. Eligibility criteria All studies of ABO blood type and head and neck tumours will be included in this study. Data extraction and synthesis A systematic literature review was performed using digital platforms on CNKI, WANFANG DATA, PubMed, Web of Science and Embase databases, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines for meta-analysis. Two authors independently extracted the data and assessed the quality of included studies. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Comparisons were made between blood types A, B, AB and their combined group versus O, along with subgroup analyses. Systematic analysis was performed by using Review Manager V.5.4 and Stata V.18 statistical software. Results 30 articles were included, involving 737 506 subjects, among which 21 382 were patients with head and neck tumours. The overall analysis indicated a significant association between type AB blood (OR 0.762, 95% CI 0.637 to 0.910) and a reduced risk of head and neck tumours. In the Caucasoid race, type A blood is significantly linked to an elevated likelihood of head and neck tumours (OR 1.353, 95% CI 1.076 to 1.702), while in the Mongoloid race, type AB blood is significantly linked to a reduced likelihood of developing tumours in the head and neck area (OR= 0.732, 95% CI 0.588 to 0.910). No significant associations were found in the subgroup analysis by gender. Regarding different types of cancer, type A blood is significantly associated with an increased risk of salivary gland tumours (OR 1.338, 95% CI 1.075 to 1.665), and type AB blood is significantly linked to a lower likelihood of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (OR 0.590, 95% CI 0.429 to 0.812). Conclusion A correlation exists between ABO blood groups and tumours in the head and neck region. However, the link between blood type and head and neck tumours requires further confirmation through more prospective studies. PROSPERO registration number CRD42024510176.

Abstract:Objective: To retrospectively evaluate the distribution of ABO and RhD blood groups and their relationship with diseases. Methods: The retrospective study was carried out in Bursa Uludag University Family Health Center in Turkey between 1-28 February, 2023. The data of individuals who were registered with the Family Health Center and whose blood types were known were evaluated retrospectively. Blood group type, sociodemographic findings, existing diseases, allergies, and genetic disease conditions were obtained. P-values below 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Analysis were made in the SPSS 25.0 program. Results: A total of 3834 people, 1935 male (50.5%) and 1899 female (49.5%) participated in the study. The mean age of the individuals was 26.45±10.45 years. About 75.8 percent of the participants were university students, 6.3 percent were health workers, and 17.9 percent were from other occupational groups. The rates of blood groups were determined as O Rh D+ at 33.5%, AB Rh D+ at 26.9%, A Rh D+ at 14.9%, AB Rh D- at 7.7%, B Rh D+ at 7%, O Rh D- at 4.6%, B Rh D- at 3.2% and A Rh D- at 2.2%. It was determined that the O Rh D- group had a higher rate of genetic disease than the other groups (p=0.01). Conclusion: It was determined that the O Rh D+ blood group was found more frequently in our region's population than in other groups. This different result depending on the A Rh D+ blood group, which is the most common throughout the country may have reflected the influence of different geographical regions and ethnic characteristics due to the students in our population. Evaluation of ABO/Rh blood group distributions in papillary thyroid cancer patients

Abstract:The study aimed to evaluate the ABO/Rh blood group distributions and their relationship with clinical-pathological features in papillary thyroid cancer patients. It was planned as a retrospective case-controlled study. The blood group distributions of the patients were contrasted with that of the general population. Additionally, the association between clinical-pathological variables and blood group distribution was assessed. Two hundred and ninety-three patients were involved in the study. The median age was 48 years, and the majority of patients were female (84.3%). The most common variants of papillary thyroid cancer were follicular, classical, and oncocytic. The majority of the patients had stage 1 (91.1%) disease at the time of diagnosis. ABO blood group distributions in the patient (47.4% A, 11.9% B, 8.2% AB, 32.4% O) and control (42% A, 16% B, 8% AB, 34% O) groups were found to be similar ( P = .8). In terms of Rh factor, there was a comparable distribution for the characteristics of the patient and healthy control group ( P = .6). There was no association between clinical and pathological variables and blood group distributions (gender, age, tumor stage, tumor location, and pathological tumor variant). Comparing patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma to the healthy control group, the prevalence of the A blood group numerically increased while the prevalence of the B blood group numerically decreased, but it was not statistically significant. In addition, ABO/Rh blood type and clinical and pathological variables did not relate.
Modifiable Risk of Breast Cancer in Northeast Iran: Hope for the Future. A Case-Control Study

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Its prevalence is increasing annually by 2%. The determination of modifiable risk factors has been the subject of various studies. The aim of this study was to determine risk factors of breast cancer in women in Golestan Province. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This case-control study was conducted among women with breast cancer recorded in the cancer registry system between 2004 and 2006 (n = 134), and their age-matched healthy neighbors (n = 133). Data were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Age at marriage, menarche and pregnancy, breast feeding, positive family history, marital status, and educational level were not significantly correlated with risk of breast cancer, but age at menopause (< 46.6 years) was significantly correlated (95% confidence interval 1.15-7.37; p = 0.021). Live births, still births, and infant deaths were not significantly different between the 2 groups. For other variables, such as smoking history, no odds ratio was calculated. CONCLUSION: Results show that there is no significant correlation between variables and risk of breast cancer in our population, except for age at menopause. A large cohort study is recommended.

However, the relationships between ABO blood groups and diseases in the digestive system and vein have not been elucidated. We investigated the relationships between ABO blood groups and diseases in the digestive system and vein in this study. Patients and Methods: A retrospective study on a Chinese population, including 1432 Crohn's disease (CD), 416 ulcerative colitis (UC), 1140 stomach cancer (SC), 841 colorectal cancer (CRC), 384 pancreatic cancer (PC), 520 liver cancer (LC), and 563 venous thrombosis (VT) patients, was performed. Furthermore, 896 healthy subjects were enrolled as normal controls (NC) in this study. The demographic characteristics of patients and NC were compared using the unpaired t -test and χ 2 test. Multivariate logistic regression model was used to evaluate the association between ABO blood groups and CD and VT. Results: ABO blood groups distributions in UC, SC, CRC, PC, and LC patients did not differ from that of NC, but CD and VT patients had significant difference of ABO blood group distribution from that of NC (p = 0.015 and p = 0.002, respectively). Patients with CD and VT had considerably lower rates of type O blood (p = 0.011 and p = 0.001, respectively) and significantly higher rates of type AB blood (p = 0.013 and p = 0.022, respectively) than those with NC. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed the association of CD and VT with non-O blood types was still significant with a higher risk than with blood group O after adjusting for age and gender (OR = 1.355, 95% CI = 1.100– 1.670, p = 0.004 and OR = 1.465, 95% CI = 1.131– 1.903, p = 0.004, respectively). Conclusion: ABO blood groups distributions in CD and VT patients significantly differed from that of NC. Non-O blood group could be a new predictor for CD and VT. Keywords: ABO blood groups, non-O blood group, CD, VT The most crucial blood group system used in human blood transfusions is the ABO blood type system, 1–4 which Karl Landsteiner initially identified in 1900. 5 ABO gene regulates the expression of the ABO blood group system's antigens (A, B, and H determinants), and it encodes a glycosyltransferase that changes complex carbohydrates on the surface of human cells and tissues in addition to the red blood cell (RBC) surface, including platelets, the epithelium, the vascular endothelium, and sensory neurons. 4,6 ABO blood group system has been reported that it was associated with many human diseases. 4,7 However, the relationships between ABO blood groups and diseases in the digestive system and vein have not been elucidated. Thus, we investigated the relationships between ABO blood groups and diseases in the digestive system and vein, among which digestive system diseases included CD, UC, SC, CRC, PC, and LC, and vein diseases included VT in this study. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), clinically presenting as Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC), is a collection of inflammatory, relapsing, and chronic gastrointestinal illnesses. 8 It has been a worldwide healthy problem with increasing incidence of IBD and hospitalization of IBD patients. 8 In addition, Cancer 9 and cardiovascular disease (CVD) 10 are two of the leading causes of death in China. Thus, it is vital to identify the mechanism of these diseases as aforesaid. There was growing interest in the connection between ABO blood types and human disorders. ABO blood type is genetically linked to a number of autoimmune illnesses, cancer risk factors, and cardiovascular diseases, according to mounting evidence. 4,11,12 In particular, according to several researches, there was a substantial link between non-O blood type and IBD. A previous study had shown that the risk of developing CD was higher in Caucasus region for non-O blood group. 13 Similarly, Cheng et al recently discovered a statistically significant link between the non-O blood type and an increased chance of getting CD in Chinese Han. 12 However, there was a research had shown that ABO blood type was not related to the prevalence of CD in southern China. 14 The impact of non-O blood type on CD was inconsistent, making it more interesting. Abstract:Background: ABO and Rh blood types are associated with a higher risk of disease and are essential for clinical practice and blood transfusion safety. The findings of earlier research on the relationship between blood types and HBV infection are still up for debate. There is no study conducted on the study population to reveal the relationship between ABO and RhD blood groups and infection with hepatitis B virus. Aims: This study aimed to identify the relationship between blood types and hepatitis B virus infection in blood donors at Jiblah University Hospital in Jiblah town, Yemen Methods: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted. Venous blood samples were drawn from 120 blood donors and tested for hepatitis B core antigen (anti-HBc) using commercial kits (Roche Diagnostics GmbH, United Kingdom). ABO and Rh blood groups were determined by the cell pooling method. The results were analyzed using SPSS v.20. Results: This study reported that the most frequent blood types were O positive and A positive 57 (47.5%) and 28 (23.3%) respectively, followed by B positive 14 (11.67%) and O negative 13 (10.83%). The overall phenotypic frequencies of ABO and RhD blood groups were O+>A+>B+>O->A->AB+>B->AB-. The prevalence of hepatitis B virus was 12 (10%). No statistical association was detected between ABO and RhD blood groups and hepatitis B infection. Conclusions: High prevalence rates of hepatitis B virus infection among blood donors were identified in this study. There was no statistical association between ABO and RhD blood groups and hepatitis B infection. Electroviscous effect of moderately concentrated colloidal suspensions: Stern-layer influence.

Abstract:A previous model for the viscosity of moderately concentrated suspensions has been extended. The influence of a dynamic Stern layer (DSL), which produces an additional surface conductance at the electrolyte-particle interface, is included. The theoretical treatment is based on Happel's cell model with Simha's boundary conditions for the interparticle hydrodynamic interactions and on a dynamic Stern-layer model for ionic conduction on the particle surface according to Mangelsdorf and White (ref 39). The results are valid for arbitrary zeta potentials and double-layer thickness. Extensive theoretical predictions are shown and interesting new behaviors are found. The comparison with the results in the absence of additional surface conductance shows a great influence of this mechanism in the energy dissipation during the laminar flow of these suspensions. We conclude that the inclusion of a dynamic Stern layer will be required to match the predictions with the experimental results.
Prevalence of Hepatitis B Virus Markers among the Women with Breast Cancer

Abstract:Introduction: Breast cancer represents a formidable peril to the female populace on a worldwide level. The association between breast cancer and various factors, including viral infections, has been extensively investigated. Recently, the link between HBV infection and breast cancer patients has garnered attention. The present research aims to assess the prevalence of HBV markers among women diagnosed with breast cancer in Ahvaz city, Iran. Materials and methods: Serum specimens were procured from 90 patients who had been clinically diagnosed with breast cancer. The age of the patients ranged from 29 to 80 years, with a mean age of 49.42±10.7. Histological examination of biopsy specimens revealed that 75 (83.33%) were ductal, 11 (8.88%) lobular, 2 (2.22%) mucinous, 1 (1.11%) medullary, and 1 (1.11%) was metastatic. The serum samples were subjected to initial HBsAg and anti-HBc testing via ELISA. Samples that tested seropositive (HBsAg + anti-HBc) were subsequently analyzed for the S region of HBV through nested PCR and DNA sequencing. Finally, a phylogenetic tree was constructed for positive HBV DNA tests. Results: Among the 5/90 (5.55%) cancer patients, it was found that 3 (3.33%) cases of ductal carcinoma and one (1.11%) lobular carcinoma displayed positivity for HBV markers (HBsAg, anti-HBc, HBV PCR). Notably, one (1.11%) patient with ductal carcinoma solely demonstrated anti-HBc positivity. The phylogenetic tree analysis of the S region revealed that all HBV strains identified were categorized as genotype D. Conclusion: The statistical analysis did not reveal any significant findings (p= 0.315) in the distribution of cancer types across different age groups. Among patients diagnosed with breast cancer, a notable prevalence of 5.5% was observed in HBV markers. The dominant HBV genotype among breast cancer patients was identified as genotype D.
Investigation of the effect of ABO blood types on the prognosis of endometrioid-type endometrial cancer

Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study was to examine how the ABO blood type affects endometrioid-type, EC prognosis. Method: A total of 522 patients diagnosed with EC between February 2010 and December 2021 were assessed, retrospectively. ABO blood types were used to divide the patients into four groups as A, B, O, and AB. Demographic data, menopause, prognostic variables, FIGO stage, and survival were evaluated. A in 217 patients, B in 84 patients, O in 181 patients, and AB blood type in 40 patients were analyzed. Results: Age, gravida, parity, body mass index, menopause, comorbidity, prognostic variables, FIGO stage, and survival according to the groups were similar (p > 0.012). Group A differed from other groups statistically in peritoneal fluid cytology (p = 0.004). B blood type had the best chance of cumulative overall survival, followed by AB, A, and O blood types, in that order (p = 0.170). Conclusion: In light of blood types sensitivity to endometrioid-type EC, O blood type has been identified as blood type with the highest risk of endometrioid EC.
Dietary Diabetes Risk Reduction Score (DDRRS) and Breast Cancer Risk: A Case-Control Study in Iran

Abstract:Introduction: Given the role of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance in tumor initiation, we hypothesized that following a diet that reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes could also reduce the risk of breast cancer. Herein, we conducted a case-control study to investigate the association between dietary diabetes risk reduction score and breast cancer risk in Iranian women. Method: We recruited 136 newly diagnosed cases and 272 age-matched hospitalized controls from referral hospitals. A valid and reliable 168-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) was used to collect the data on dietary intake. We used Multivariate Logistic regression to assess the odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) of breast cancer by the dietary diabetes risk reduction score tertiles. Results: After adjusting for confounding variables, no association was seen between dietary diabetes risk reduction score and breast cancer risk (OR = 0.65, 95% CI: 0.37-1.14). However, after stratification by menopausal status, a decreased risk was observed between adherence to dietary diabetes risk reduction score and breast cancer risk in postmenopausal individuals (OR = 0.43, 95% CI: 0.19-0.99). Conclusion: The present study states that there is no significant relationship between the dietary diabetes risk reduction score and the risk of breast cancer. However, adherence to dietary diabetes risk reduction score could have a preventive role for breast cancer among postmenopausal women.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:The increased odds of stomach cancer among subjects with blood type A have been reported in epidemiological studies.AIM:To study the relation of family history of gastric cancer and ABO blood type with precancerous gastric lesions in a high-risk area for stomach cancer. Subjects and setting We examined 3400 adults aged 35-64 in a population-based gastric endoscopic screening in a county in China with one of the highest rates of stomach cancer in the world.METHODS:In this cross-sectional study, data on family cancer history, ABO blood type and other characteristics of the participants were obtained by interview and blood test. Responses were compared between those with the most advanced gastric lesions, dysplasia (DYS) or intestinal metaplasia (IM), versus those with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) or superficial gastritis (SG).RESULTS:The prevalence odds ratio (OR) for blood type A relative to other types was 1.39 (95% CI : 1.12-1.73) for DYS and 1.28 (95% CI : 1.06-1.53) for IM. The OR associated with parental history of stomach cancer was 1.88 (95% CI : 1.20-2.95) for DYS, but the numbers were too small to evaluate aggregation among siblings. The combined OR associated with blood type A and a parental of history of gastric cancer was 2.61 (95% CI : 1.59-4.30) for DYS and 1.46 (95% CI : 0.93-2.31) for IM.CONCLUSIONS:The findings suggest that genetic factors play a role in developing precancerous gastric lesions.
