Abstract:Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most serious injuries, which will cause severe sensory and motor obstacles. The current effective treatment methods remain a worldwide challenge for both clinic and research. The lack of electrical signal conduction and cell growth microenvironment in SCI is one of the main obstacles that inhibit spinal cord regeneration. Herein, we report a multifunctional polycitrate-based nanocomposite hydrogel (PMEAC) scaffold with spinal cord-biomimetic mechanical and electrical properties for promoting spinal cord repair and regeneration. PMEAC scaffolds were prepared using poly(citrate-maleic)-epsilon-polylysine (PME) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) by the facile self-crosslinking route. PMEAC scaffolds possessed multifunctional properties including injectability, self-healing ability, tissue-adhesiveness, broad-spectrum antibacterial property and UV-shielding performance, especially the biomimetic mechanical modulus (G' = 291.69 Pa) and electroconductivity (0.15 S/m) with spinal cord tissue. PMEAC scaffolds also exhibited good cytocompatibility, hemocompatibility and biodegradability. In vivo results from a spinal cord defect model showed that PMEAC scaffolds could significantly improve locomotion recovery (BBB score 6-7), reduce inflammation, promote remyelination and axon regeneration after SCI. This study showed that multifunctional bioactive biomaterials with mechanics-electro-biomimetic properties should be the effective strategy to promote SCI recovery and regeneration.
Therapeutic Effect of Biomimetic Scaffold Loaded with Human Amniotic Epithelial Cell-Derived Neural-like Cells for Spinal Cord Injury.

Abstract:Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in devastating consequences for the motor and sensory function of patients due to neuronal loss and disrupted neural circuits, confronting poor prognosis and lack of effective therapies. A new therapeutic strategy is urgently required. Here, human amniotic epithelial cells (hAEC), featured with immunocompatibility, non-tumorgenicity and no ethical issues, were induced into neural-like cells by a compound cocktail, as evidenced with morphological change and the expression of neural cell markers. Interestingly, the hAEC-neural-like cells maintain the characteristic of low immunogenicity as hAEC. Aiming at SCI treatment in vivo, we constructed a 3D-printed GelMA hydrogel biomimetic spinal cord scaffold with micro-channels, in which hAEC-neural-like cells were well-induced and grown. In a rat full transection SCI model, hAEC-neural-like cell scaffolds that were implanted in the lesion demonstrated significant therapeutic effects; the neural circuit and hindlimb locomotion were partly recovered compared to little affection in the SCI rats receiving an empty scaffold or a sham implantation operation. Thus, the establishment of hAEC-neural-like cell biomimetic scaffolds may provide a safe and effective treatment strategy for SCI.
An Optimized Decellularized Extracellular Matrix from Dental Pulp Stem Cell Sheets Promotes Axonal Regeneration by Multiple Modes in Spinal Cord Injury Rats

Abstract:In the field of tissue engineering, the extracellular matrix (ECM) is considered an important element for promoting neural regeneration after spinal cord injury (SCI). Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs), mesenchymal stem cells that originate from the neural crest, are easy to harvest and culture in vitro, express a variety of neurotrophic factors (NTFs) and deposit a large amount of ECM, making them a good choice for stem cell- or ECM-based treatment of SCI. In the present study, decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) derived from DPSC sheets is used for the treatment of SCI. Optimization experiments reveal that incubating DPSC sheets with 1% Triton X-100 for 5 min is the best procedure for preparing DPSC dECM. It is found that DPSC dECM promotes nerve repair and regeneration after SCI and restores hindlimb motor function in rats. Mechanistically, DPSC dECM facilitates the migration and neural differentiation of neural stem cells, as well as M2 polarization of microglia, and inhibits the formation of glial scars. This study suggests that the use of DPSC dECM is a potential strategy for the treatment of SCI.

Abstract:The repair of spinal cord injury (SCI) highly relies on microenvironment remodeling and facilitating the recruitment and neuronal differentiation of endogenous stem/progenitor cells. Decellularized tissue matrices (DTMs) have shown their unique and beneficial characteristics in promoting neural tissue regeneration, especially those derived from the nervous system. Herein, we present a comparative analysis of a DTM hydrogel derived from spinal cord (DSCM-gel) and a decellularized matrix hydrogel derived from peripheral nerves (DNM-gel). The tissue-specificity of DSCM-gel was evaluated both in vitro, using neural stem/progenitor cell (NSPC) culture, and in vivo, using various materials and biological analyses, including transcriptome and proteomics. It was found that DSCM-gel retained an extracellular matrix-like nanofibrous structure but exhibited higher porosity than DNM-gel, which potentiated NSPCs viability, proliferation, and migration in the early stage of 3D culturing, followed by facilitation of the NSPCs differentiation into neurons. Transcriptome analysis indicated that DSCM-gel regulates NSPCs behavior by modulating integrin α2, α9, and β1 expression profiles along with AKT/ERK related signaling pathways. Proteomics analyses suggest that DSCM specific extracellular matrix proteins, such as the tenascin family (TNC) and some soluble growth factor (FGF2) may contribute to these regulations. Furthermore, in vivo assessments confirmed that DSCM-gel provides a suitable microenvironment for endogenous stem/progenitor cells recruitment and axonal regeneration for bridging the lesion site after a completely transected SCI. Thus, this systematic study provides key insights useful for the development of the tissue specific DTM biomaterials for translational microenvironment replacement therapies and tissue repair.

Abstract:Spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to severe loss of motor and sensory functions, and the rehabilitation of SCI is a worldwide problem. Tissue-engineered scaffolds offer new hope for SCI patients, while the newly developed materials encountered a challenge in modeling the microenvironment around the lesion site. We constructed a new composite scaffold by mixing decellularized spinal cord extracellular matrix (dECM) with gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA). The dECM, as a natural biological material, retained a large number of proteins and growth factors related to neurogenesis. GelMA was a photopolymerizable material, harbored a polymer network structure, soft texture, certain shape and plenty of water. The viability, proliferation, and differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) on the composite scaffold were evaluated by cell count kit-8 (CCK8), Live/Dead assay, phalloidin staining, 5-Ethynyl-2'-deoxyurdine (EdU), immunofluorescence staining and western blot. The Live/Dead assay, phalloidin staining, EdU, and CCK8 assay showed that the composite scaffold had good biocompatibility and provided better support for proliferation of NSCs. Results of immunocytochemistry and western blot showed that the composite scaffolds promoted the specific differentiation of NSCs into neuron cells. Together, this dECM/GelMA composite scaffold can be used as a cell culture coating, the isolated NSCs seeded on the surface of composite scaffold expressed neuronal markers and assumed neuronal morphology. Our work provided a new method that would be widely used in tissue engineering of SCI.
Preparation of Drug Sustained-Release Scaffold with De-Epithelized Human Amniotic Epithelial Cells and Thiolated Chitosan Nanocarriers and Its Repair Effect on Spinal Cord Injury

Abstract:The disability rate of spinal cord injury (SCI) is extremely high, and stem cell inhibition is one of the most effective schemes in treating the spinal cord, but the survival rate is extremely low after stem cell transplantation, so it cannot be widely used in clinic. Studies have revealed that loading stem cells with biological scaffolds can effectively improve the survival rate and effect after stem cell transplantation. Therefore, this research was devised to analyze the repair effect of thiolated chitosan nanocarriers scaffold carrying de-epithelized human amniotic epithelial cells (HAECs) on SCI. And we used thiolated chitosan as nanocarriers, aiming to provide a reliable theoretical basis for future clinical practice. Through experiments, we concluded that the Tarlov and BBB scores of rats with SCI were raised under the intervention of thiolated chitosan carrying HAECs, while the inflammatory factors in serum, oxidative stress reaction in spinal cord tissue, apoptosis rate of nerve cells, and autophagy protein expression were all suppressed. Thus, the thiolated chitosan carrying HAECs may be applied to treat SCI by suppressing autophagy protein expression, oxidative stress response, and release of inflammatory factors in spinal cord tissue, which may be a new clinical therapy for SCI in the future. Even though we cannot understand exactly the therapeutic mechanism of thiolated chitosan carrying HAECs for SCI, the real clinical application of thiolated chitosan carrying HAECs needs to be confirmed by human experiments.

An injectable decellularized extracellular matrix hydrogel with cortical neuron-derived exosomes enhances tissue repair following traumatic spinal cord injury

Abstract:Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI), known for its limited intrinsic regeneration capacity, often results in considerable neurological impairment. Studies suggest that therapeutic techniques utilizing exosomes (Exo) to promote tissue regeneration and modulate immune responses are promising for SCI treatment. However, combining exosome therapy with biomaterials for SCI treatment is not very effective. This study developed an adhesive hydrogel using exosomes secreted by cortical neurons derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) to enhance motor function recovery post-SCI. In vitro assessments demonstrated the excellent cytocompatibility of the dECM hydrogel. Additionally, the Exo-dECM hydrogel facilitated the polarization of early M2 macrophages, reduced neuronal apoptosis, and established a pro-regenerative microenvironment in a rodent SCI model. Subsequent analyses revealed significant activation of endogenous neural stem cells and promotion of axon regeneration and remyelination at eight weeks post-surgery. The Exo-dECM hydrogel also promoted the functional recovery and preservation of urinary tissue in SCI-afflicted rats. These findings highlighted that the Exo-dECM hydrogel is a promising therapeutic strategy for treating SCI.

Abstract:Tissue engineering is a promising strategy to repair spinal cord injury (SCI). However, a bioscaffold with mechanical properties that match those of the pathological spinal cord tissue and a pro-regenerative matrix that allows robust neurogenesis for overcoming post-SCI scar formation has yet to be developed. Here, we report that a mechanically enhanced decellularized spinal cord (DSC) scaffold with a thin poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) outer shell may fulfill the requirements for effective in situ neuroengineering after SCI. Using chemical extraction and electrospinning methods, we successfully constructed PLGA thin shell-ensheathed DSC scaffolds (PLGA-DSC scaffolds) in a way that removed major inhibitory components while preserving the permissive matrix. The DSCs exhibited good cytocompatibility with neural stem cells (NSCs) and significantly enhanced their differentiation toward neurons in vitro. Due to the mechanical reinforcement, the implanted PLGA-DSC scaffolds showed markedly increased resilience to infiltration by myofibroblasts and the deposition of dense collagen matrix, thereby creating a neurogenic niche favorable for the targeted migration, residence and neuronal differentiation of endogenous NSCs after SCI. Furthermore, PLGA-DSC presented a mild immunogenic property but prominent ability to polarize macrophages from the M1 phenotype to the M2 phenotype, leading to significant tissue regeneration and functional restoration after SCI. Taken together, the results demonstrate that the mechanically matched PLGA-DSC scaffolds show promise for effective tissue repair after SCI.

Abstract:Spinal cord injury (SCI) will lead to irreversible damage of sensory and motor function of central nervous system, which seriously affects patient's quality of life. A variety of nerve engineering materials carrying various stem cells and cell growth factors had used to promote the repair of SCI, but they could not mimic the actual matric niche at spinal cord to promote cell proliferation and differentiation. Thus, developing novel biomaterial providing better niche of spinal cord is a new strategy to treat the severe SCI. In this study, we constructed porcine spinal cord decellularized matrix scaffold (SC-DM) with biocompatibility to load engineered basic fibroblast growth factor-overexpressing human umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells (bFGF-HUCMSCs) for treating SCI. The continuously released bioactive bFGF factors from grafted bFGF-HUCMSCs and three-dimensional niche by SC-DM promoted the differentiation of endogenous stem cells into neurons with nerve conduction function, leading a markedly motor function recovery of SCI. These results indicated that the functional bFGF-HUCMSCs/SC-DM scaffold provided more suitable matric niche for nerve cells, that would be a promising strategy for the clinical application of SCI.

According to the automata-based programming technology, code is generated from a high-level application behavior description which is based on finite state machines. An extra benefit from the use of such description is the possibility of generation of formal application specification in Java Modeling Language. Conformance of the code against its specification could be checked by different static checking and verification tools.
A decellularized spinal cord extracellular matrix-gel/GelMA hydrogel three-dimensional composite scaffold promotes recovery from spinal cord injury via synergism with human menstrual blood-derived stem cells

Abstract:Spinal cord injury (SCI), as a serious disabling disease, is still haunted by lacking of effective treatments. We previously found that transplantation of menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MenSCs) promoted axon regeneration in rats with SCI, while the abominable microenvironment after the SCI inhibited the survival of stem cells after transplantation. Biomaterials can support the activity of stem cells and accelerate the functional reconstruction of the injured spinal cord. In this study, we constructed a novel composite scaffold consisting of the decellularized spinal cord extracellular matrix-gel (DSCG) and the GelMA hydrogel, which harbored high water retention, wettability, degradability and soft mechanical property. In vitro, the DSCG/GelMA composite scaffold provided a dual bionic microenvironment with optimized bioactive components and favorable microstructures for the adhesion, proliferation and differentiation of MenSCs. After that, we prepared MenSC-encapsulated DSCG/GelMA composite scaffolds to bridge the 2 mm gap in rats with completely transected SCI. The in vivo results showed that the combined use of the DSCG/GelMA composite scaffold with MenSCs improved the motor function, reduced the inflammatory response, promoted neuronal differentiation, and inhibited the proliferation of reactive astrocytes after spinal cord injury. Altogether, our study provided a promising novel therapeutic option of using bioactive materials synergistic with stem cells for the treatment of SCI.
Tissue-Engineered Regeneration of Completely Transected Spinal Cord Using Induced Neural Stem Cells and Gelatin-Electrospun Poly (Lactide-Co-Glycolide)/Polyethylene Glycol Scaffolds

Abstract:Tissue engineering has brought new possibilities for the treatment of spinal cord injury. Two important components for tissue engineering of the spinal cord include a suitable cell source and scaffold. In our study, we investigated induced mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) directly reprogrammed into neural stem cells (iNSCs), as a cell source. Three-dimensional (3D) electrospun poly (lactide-co-glycolide)/polyethylene glycol (PLGA-PEG) nanofiber scaffolds were used for iNSCs adhesion and growth. Cell growth, survival and proliferation on the scaffolds were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and nuclei staining were used to assess cell growth on the scaffolds. Scaffolds with iNSCs were then transplanted into transected rat spinal cords. Two or 8 weeks following transplantation, immunofluorescence was performed to determine iNSC survival and differentiation within the scaffolds. Functional recovery was assessed using the Basso, Beattie, Bresnahan (BBB) Scale. Results indicated that iNSCs showed similar morphological features with wild-type neural stem cells (wt-NSCs), and expressed a variety of neural stem cell marker genes. Furthermore, iNSCs were shown to survive, with the ability to self-renew and undergo neural differentiation into neurons and glial cells within the 3D scaffolds in vivo. The iNSC-seeded scaffolds restored the continuity of the spinal cord and reduced cavity formation. Additionally, iNSC-seeded scaffolds contributed to functional recovery of the spinal cord. Therefore, PLGA-PEG scaffolds seeded with iNSCs may serve as promising supporting transplants for repairing spinal cord injury (SCI).

The Effect of Aligned and Random Electrospun Fibers Derived from Porcine Decellularized ECM on Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Based Treatments for Spinal Cord Injury

Abstract:The impact of traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) can be extremely devastating, as it often results in the disruption of neural tissues, impeding the regenerative capacity of the central nervous system. However, recent research has demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) possess the capacity for multi-differentiation and have a proven track record of safety in clinical applications, thus rendering them effective in facilitating the repair of spinal cord injuries. It is urgent to develop an aligned scaffold that can effectively load MSCs for promoting cell aligned proliferation and differentiation. In this study, we prepared an aligned nanofiber scaffold using the porcine decellularized spinal cord matrix (DSC) to induce MSCs differentiation for spinal cord injury. The decellularization method removed 87% of the immune components while retaining crucial proteins in DSC. The electrospinning technique was employed to fabricate an aligned nanofiber scaffold possessing biocompatibility and a diameter of 720 nm. In in vitro and in vivo experiments, the aligned nanofiber scaffold induces the aligned growth of MSCs and promotes their differentiation into neurons, leading to tissue regeneration and nerve repair after spinal cord injury. The approach exhibits promising potential for the future development of nerve regeneration scaffolds for spinal cord injury treatment.
3D Bioprinted Conductive Spinal Cord Biomimetic Scaffolds for Promoting Neuronal Differentiation of Neural Stem Cells and Repairing of Spinal Cord Injury

Abstract:Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a terrible injury of the central nervous system for which there is no ideal treatment in clinic so far. The spinal cord biomimetic scaffolds which mimic the shape and structure of native spinal cord tissue, could effectively promote the repair of SCI. However, current biomimetic scaffolds do not mimic the biological functions, especially the electrical conductivity, of spinal cord tissue, which largely limits the therapeutic effect of SCI. In this study, we have developed novel conductive hydrogels based on gelatin methacrylate (GelMA), hyaluronic acid methacrylate (HAMA) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): sulfonated lignin (PEDOT:LS). The incorporation of PEDOT:LS into GelMA/HAMA hydrogel matrix significantly improved the conductivity of the hydrogels. By precisely regulating the light curing time, the conductive hydrogels showed mechanical properties similar to native spinal cord tissues. Then, the conductive biomimetic scaffolds were fabricated by 3D bioprinting, and the neural stem cells (NSCs) encapsulated in the scaffolds exhibited good survival rate (higher than 90%). Compared to the non-conductive scaffolds reported, the conductive scaffolds remarkably promoted neuronal differentiation of NSCs in vitro. In a rat spinal cord complete transection model, the conductive biomimetic scaffold dramatically promoted the recovery of hindlimb motor function. Immunofluorescence staining results further showed that the conductive biomimetic scaffold effectively promoted the regeneration of neurons at the injury site, reduced the deposition of glial scar, and promoted nerve axon regeneration and myelination. Overall, the 3D bioprinting of the conductive spinal cord biomimetic scaffolds developed in this work represents a promising approach for the stem cell-based treatment of SCI.

Abstract:Background: Acellular tissue has been transplanted into the injury site as an external microenvironment to intervene with imbalance microenvironment that occurs after spinal cord injury (SCI) and stimulating axonal regeneration, although the mechanism is unclear. Given decellularization is the key means to obtain acellular tissues, we speculated changes in the internal components of tissue caused by decellularization may be the key reason why acellular tissues affect remodeling of the microenvironment.Methods: Complete spinal cord crush in a mouse model was established, and the dynamic of extracellular matrix (ECM) expression and distribution during SCI was studied with immunohistochemistry (IHC). Normal spinal cord (NSC) and 14-day injury spinal cord (ISC) were obtained to prepare the decellularized NSC (DNSC) and decellularized ISC (DISC) through a well-designed decellularization method, and the decellularization effects were evaluated by residual DNA content determination, hematoxylin and eosin staining (H&E), and IHC. Rat dorsal root ganglia (DRG) were co-cultured with NSC, ISC, DNSC, and DISC to evaluate their effect on neurite outgrowth. Furthermore, the mechanisms by which decellularized tissue promotes axonal growth were explored with proteomics analysis of the protein components and function of 14-day ISC and DISC.Results: We found the expression of the four main ECM components (collagen type I and IV, fibronectin, and laminin) gradually increased with the progression of SCI compared to NSC, peaking at 14 days of injury then slightly decreasing at 21 days, and the distribution of the four ECM proteins in the ISC also changed dynamically. H&E staining, residual DNA content determination, and IHC showed decellularization removed cellular components and preserved an intact ECM. The results of co-cultured DRG with NSCs, ISCs, DNSCs, and DISCs showed DNSCs and DISCs had a stronger ability in supporting neurite outgrowth than NSC and ISC. We found through proteomics that decellularization could remove proteins associated with inflammatory responses, scarring, and other pathological factors, while completely retaining the ECM proteins.Conclusions: Taken together, our findings demonstrate decellularization can optimize the imbalanced microenvironment after SCI by removing components that inhibit spinal cord regeneration, providing a theoretical basis for clinical application of acellular tissue transplantation to repair SCI.

Abstract:Abstract Cell-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) has been applied in spinal cord injury (SCI) regeneration because of its various biological functions. However, insufficient mechanical properties limit its wide application. Herein, we developed GelMA/ECM hydrogel fibrous scaffolds (GelMA/ECM scaffolds) that can recruit and enhance the differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) by electrospinning and decellularization techniques. Moreover, the GelMA/ECM scaffolds had good mechanical properties and reinforced cell adhesion and proliferation. Compared to GelMA hydrogel fibrous scaffolds (GelMA scaffolds), GelMA/ECM scaffolds promoted more NSCs toward neurons by markedly enhancing the expression of MAP-2 and Tuj-1 and decreasing GFAP expression. In addition, the GelMA/ECM scaffolds significantly reduced the proportion of M1-phenotype macrophages, which is favorable for SCI repair. In vivo, the GelMA/ECM scaffolds recruited NSCs at the injured site, promoted neuron regeneration, and reduced the formation of glial scars and the inflammatory response, which further led to a significant improvement in the functional recovery of SCI. Therefore, this scaffold shows potential in regenerative medicine, mainly in SCI.

Abstract:A series of complex influencing factors lead to failure of neural regeneration after spinal cord injury (SCI). Up to now, there is no robust treatment that can restore the loss of function caused by injury. Because damaged spinal axons do not spontaneously regenerate in their naturally inhibitory microenvironments, biomaterials that induce neural regeneration to appear as attractive treatments to improve the microenvironmental conditions after SCI. In this study, we report the novel use of decellularized (DC) scaffolds to provide contact guidance for axonal regrowth in vivo. The idea is that the scaffolds comprise some cytokines and a physical compartment that may facilitate regeneration. To evaluate the efficacy of scaffolds in supporting neural regeneration after SCI, the scaffold was implanted into an injured spinal cord of the rat. The injured spinal scaffolds showed a significant increase of the expression of GAP43, NF200, and Nestin in the scaffold implant groups compared with controls without the scaffold. In addition, the motor function has a better recovery. Together, these results demonstrate that spinal acellular scaffold is capable of promoting axonal regeneration after SCI and may serve as a potential tool in the treatment of SCI. Abstract:Spinal cord injury (SCI) treatment remains challenging globally, with limited breakthroughs. Tissue engineering offers promise, particularly using acellular spinal cord scaffolds. This study developed a 1-ethyl-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC)-crosslinked vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-modified acellular spinal cord scaffold for sustained VEGF release. The results show sustained VEGF release over 20 days without altering the scaffold's properties. Enhanced stability and mechanical properties were observed without increased cytotoxicity. In a rat SCI model, the system improved motor function, reduced glial scarring, and restored spinal cord morphology and histology, indicating potential for SCI therapy.

Abstract:Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) induces permanent sensorimotor deficit below the site of injury. It affects approximately a quarter million people in the US, and it represents an immeasurable public health concern. Research has been conducted to provide effective therapy; however, SCI is still considered incurable due to the complex nature of the injury site. A variety of strategies, including drug delivery, cell transplantation, and injectable biomaterials, are investigated, but one strategy alone limits their efficacy for regeneration. As such, combinatorial therapies have recently gained attention that can target multifaceted features of the injury. It has been shown that extracellular matrices (ECM) may increase the efficacy of cell transplantation for SCI. To this end, 3D hydrogels consisting of decellularized spinal cords (dSCs) and sciatic nerves (dSNs) were developed at different ratios and characterized. Histological analysis of dSCs and dSNs confirmed the removal of cellular and nuclear components, and native tissue architectures were retained after decellularization. Afterward, composite hydrogels were created at different volumetric ratios and subjected to analyses of turbidity gelation kinetics, mechanical properties, and embedded human adipose-derived stem cell (hASC) viability. No significant differences in mechanical properties were found among the different ratios of hydrogels and decellularized spinal cord matrices. Human ASCs embedded in the gels remained viable throughout the 14-day culture. This study provides a means of generating tissue-engineered combinatorial hydrogels that present nerve-specific ECM and pro-regenerative mesenchymal stem cells. This platform can provide new insights into neuro-regenerative strategies after SCI with future investigations.
