Abstract:Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, remains a significant global health threat. It results in substantial mortality and may be underrecognized due to insufficient screening and diagnostic challenges. Furthermore, TB's impact is closely linked to complex socioeconomic and healthcare factors. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these challenges due to similarities in clinical presentation and transmission dynamics with TB. Socioeconomic factors such as limited access to healthcare services, resource constraints, and social stigma further complicate TB management. Historically, TB faced increased burdens during natural disasters, wars, and pandemics. This study analyzes TB incidence changes, emphasizing the crucial need for timely diagnosis within the context of COVID-19 measures.

Abstract:4-Methacryloxyethyl trimellitate anhydride (4-META) had been reported to be a suitable monomer which promotes adhesiveness of PMMA rods with tooth substrates and metals. Previously an adhesive opaque resin which could eliminate mechanical retention devices from metal surface of crown and bridge metal frame was suggested. A new denture base resin, which is adhesive to metal denture plate, was also reported based on 4-META in MMA. We are going to publish a new application of 4-META to an adhesive dental cement in this paper. The physical properties of the new cement were measured: film thickness, 15 mu, tensile strength, 228 kg/cm2, compressive strength 920 kg/cm2, transvers strength , 530 kg/cm2, water sorption, 1.97 mg/cm2. Tensile adhesive strength of the cement was higher than 100 kg/cm2 between PMMA rods and dentine, enamel, dental alloys, and the stability was acceptable.
Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Tuberculosis Preventive Services and Their Post-Pandemic Recovery Strategies: A Rapid Review of Literature

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has disrupted tuberculosis (TB) care and prevention around the world. The aim of this study is to review literature on the impact of COVID-19 on TB preventive services and discuss their policy options during and after the pandemic.METHODS: We conducted a rapid review of scientific literature on the impact of COVID-19 on TB preventive services and their recovery strategies. After conducting a line-by-line open coding, their codes were applied in the descriptive theme building process, which was guided by the End TB strategy. TB preventive measures were selected and classified into five analytical categories: 1) vaccination against TB, 2) detection and treatment of latent TB infection (LTBI), 3) screening and diagnostics, 4) active case finding and contact tracing, and 5) surveillance.RESULTS: We identified 93 articles, of which 65 were research articles. During the pandemic, we observed decrease in Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) coverage, TB diagnostic services, case finding activities, and LTBI management. TB case detection was declined, which was not resumed to the pre-pandemic level after loosening the lock-down. Several recommendations were highlighted: 1) secure BCG stocks and its supply chains, 2) consider catch-up activities of routine immunization and LTBI screening, 3) maintain minimal TB health services, infection prevention and control, and surveillance, 4) leverage laboratory capacity and contact tracing mechanisms, 5) consider simultaneous testing for TB and COVID-19, and 6) Incorporate digital health technologies.CONCLUSIONS: Our findings and lessons learnt from the pandemic can aid in the development of future national TB control program.

Abstract:COVID‐19 has been proposed to facilitate reactivation of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) via immune‐dysregulation and local effects. The present study aimed to explore the possibility of such an association among patients diagnosed with TB using a case‐control design. Our findings suggest a link between prior history of COVID‐19 infection and the development of TB. Objective To assess the risk of developing pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in accordance with prior history of COVID‐19 infection. Background Since the advent of the COVID‐19 pandemic much discussion has been had on the possible role it might play on global efforts to combat TB; most, focusing on the pandemic's impact on health care systems' capabilities to manage TB cases. Mechanisms have also been proposed by which the COVID‐19 infection may directly affect individuals' chance of developing TB infection. Cases have been reported with a history of COVID‐19 infection preceding a diagnosis of TB, evidencing its possible role as a risk factor for the disease. Methods A case‐control study was conducted enrolling patients diagnosed with pulmonary TB in the absence of major risk factors previous history of TB, (HIV) human immunodeficiency virus infection), end‐stage renal disease, organ transplants, and use of immunosuppressive agents) for developing TB. Each patient was age and sex matched with one healthy control. Data regarding prior COVID‐19 infection, diabetes, and smoking status as well as the use of corticosteroids and Tocilizumab for the treatment of COVID‐19 infection was obtained. Bivariate analysis was conducted and variables with a likely association with TB status were entered in a multivariate model. Results Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between prior COVID‐19 infection and TB (95% confidence interval = 1.1−22.8, odds ratio [OR] = 5). Among other variables the severity of COVID‐19 infection was found to have a likely association with TB status (p = .125). In a multivariate model, prior COVID‐19 infection per se, was not found to be significantly associated with TB (p = .12, OR = 4.5). Conclusions There seems to be an association between prior history of COVID‐19 and a future diagnosis of TB partially linked to the severity of disease. The findings of the current study may serve as a basis for further studies to determine the need for and efficacy of measures to follow‐up COVID‐19 patients at an increased risk for developing TB.

Abstract:<p>The Coronavirus-19 (COVID-19) hasn't seen the dawn since its emergence, however waxing and waning has resulted in the emergence of deadly variants. The effects of pandemic have not been limited to its virulence, but have rather conferred multiple collateral effects, especially in developing countries; thereby, designating it as a SYNDEMIC. The same culminated in neglect of non-COVID-19 conditions like tuberculosis (TB) and human immunodeficiency virus-acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS). Besides being the prognostic factor for severe COVID-19, these infections in hidden pockets served as reservoir for emergence of the deadly Omicron. Another significant impact of this juxtaposition was on the delivery of healthcare services for TB and HIV. <p> The unanticipated COVID-19 pandemic turned the path of ongoing progress of elimination programs. Direct consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic were pronounced on diagnosis, treatment, and services for patients with TB and HIV. Essential TB services were reallocated to the COVID-19 rapid response task force. However, despite escalating the tribulations, this triple burden has simultaneously taught lessons to escalate the progress of halted programs. The pandemic has catalyzed an unusual level of collaboration among scientists, which can be exploited for TB and HIV. Fast-track diagnostics, digitalization, contact tracing, and vaccine development have enabled world to envision the same for TB/HIV.</p>.
Assessing the impact of COVID-19 on tuberculosis detection and treatment in healthcare facilities across Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: A comprehensive mixed-method, multi-center study

Abstract:Ethiopia faces a significant burden of Tuberculosis (TB), being one of the high-burden countries, and the emergence of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a dominant health concern, particularly in resource-limited settings. The repercussions of COVID-19 on TB care are evident, leading to a surge in undiagnosed TB cases, challenges in medication adherence, and an escalation of drug resistance. Consequently, a thorough assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on TB care becomes imperative to devise a tailored program for managing TB amidst future pandemics, natural disasters, and conflict crises. A mixed-methods study design was utilized, encompassing a randomly selected 10 health centers (HCs) and 3 hospitals among government owned 98 HCs and 5 hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. All TB patients who were on follow-up during the study period were included. The study period was from March 4, 2020, to December 4, 2020, with the corresponding period of March 4, 2019, to December 4, 2019, serving as the baseline for comparison. Quantitative data were gathered from TB patients' medical registries, laboratory registries, and treatment follow-up charts. Complementary qualitative data were acquired through in-depth interviews. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from January 17, 2022 to May 13, 2022. Following the onset of the pandemic, there was a notable and statistically significant decline in both the detection of TB cases and the number of positive results across all study sites. Bacteriological TB tests reduced from 5837 to 2126 patients, and TB-positive cases decreased from 500 to 218, representing declines of 63.6% and 56.4%, respectively. The overall number of TB patients undergoing treatment also experienced a decrease from 1431 to 1051, marking a 26.6% reduction. Additionally, there was a 10% increase in the proportion of extra-pulmonary TB cases. The impact of the pandemic extended to TB treatment outcomes, with adverse effects on cure rates, death rates, loss of follow-up, and medication adherence. The apprehension of contracting COVID-19 and the implementation of isolation measures contributed to a decline in healthcare-seeking behaviors among patients, fostering negative perceptions and practices among healthcare workers. The challenges further exacerbated due to a shortage of personal protective equipment, a lack of rapid diagnostic test tools, clinical presentations resembling COVID-19, and a shift in government policies. These factors collectively posed significant obstacles to effective TB care during the pandemic. The profound impact of COVID-19 on critical TB care service indicators, including TB detection, treatment initiation, and treatment outcomes, underscores the need for immediate and collaborative measures. It is imperative to implement strategies that ensure the resumption of all TB care services concurrently with efforts to control COVID-19. A comprehensive and coordinated approach is essential to mitigate the adverse effects of the pandemic on TB management and safeguard public health.

Abstract:BACKGROUND COVID-19 and tuberculosis (TB) are infectious diseases that predominantly affect the respiratory system with common symptoms such as cough, fever, and shortness of breath, making them dual burdens. METHODS This review will discuss the characteristics of the coexistence of TB and new infectious illnesses to provide a framework for addressing the current epidemic. Currently, there are no clear and significant data on COVID-19 infection in TB patients, they may not respond appropriately to drug therapy and may have worse treatment outcomes, especially if their TB treatment is interrupted. Due to emergence, measurements should be taken to minimize TB and COVID-19 transmission in communal settings and health care institutions were created. For both TB and COVID-19, accurate diagnostic testing and well-designed, and established therapeutic strategies are required for effective treatment. RESULTS Several health care organizations and networks have specimen transit methods that can be utilized to diagnose and monitor the etiology and progression of COVID 19 and perform contact tracing in developed and underdeveloped nations. Furthermore, patients and health care programs could benefit from increased use of digital health technology, which could improve communication, counseling, treatment, and information management, along with other capabilities to improve health care. CONCLUSIONS Patients with COVID-19 pulmonary/respiratory problems may seek treatment from respiratory physicians, pulmonologists, TB experts, and even primary health care workers. To have prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against COVID-19, TB patients should take the appropriate health care measures recommended by health care professionals/government officials and maintain their TB therapy as indicated.

Abstract:Helium isotopes are a robust geochemical tracer of a primordial mantle component in hot spot volcanism. The high 3He/4He (up to 35 RA, where RA is the atmospheric 3He/4He ratio of 1.39 × 10−6) of some Hawaiian Island volcanism is perhaps the classic example. New results for picrites and basalts from the Hawaiian‐Emperor seamount chain indicate that the hot spot has produced high 3He/4He lavas for at least the last 76 million years. Picrites erupted at 76 Ma have 3He/4He (10–14 RA), which is at the lower end of the range for the Hawaiian Islands but still above the range of modern mid‐ocean ridge basalt (MORB; 6–10 RA). This was at a time when hot spot volcanism was occurring on thin lithosphere close to a spreading ridge and producing lava compositions otherwise nearly indistinguishable from MORB. After the hot spot and spreading center diverged during the Late Cretaceous, the hot spot produced lavas with significantly higher 3He/4He (up to 24 RA). Although 3He/4He ratios stabilized at relatively high values by 65 Ma, other chemical characteristics such as La/Yb and 87Sr/86Sr did not reach and stabilize at Hawaiian‐Island‐like values until ∼45 Ma. Our limited 3He/4He record for the Hawaiian hot spot shows a poor correlation with plume flux estimates (calculated from bathymetry and residual gravity anomalies [ Van Ark and Lin, 2004 ]). If 3He is a proxy for the quantity of primordial mantle material within the plume, then the lack of correlation between 3He/4He and calculated plume flux suggests that variation in primordial mantle flux is not the primary factor controlling total plume flux.
IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON TUBERCULOSIS CONTROL IN BAHIA

Abstract:Background Tuberculosis (TB) is a transmissible infectious disease caused by species of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and, until the emergence of the new Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), it was the leading cause of death among adults from a single infectious agent. The pandemic emergency substantially affected TB services, as it reorganized actions and health systems with the aim of mitigating transmission and treating those infected with COVID-19, culminating in a break in the TB management chain. Objectives To describe and compare the incidence and outcomes of TB treatment in Bahia before and after the emergence of COVID-19. Methods This is a retrospective, epidemiological, descriptive and quantitative study using secondary data from new TB cases reported in Bahia between 2017 and 2022, through the National System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN), available at DATASUS. Data from the pre-pandemic period (2017 to 2019) were compared with the post-pandemic period (2020 to 2022). Results Bahia had 16,806 new cases of TB from 2017 to 2019, with an incidence of 114 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The highest proportion of cases was among males and in the age group of 20 to 39 years, followed by 40 to 59 years. After the onset of COVID-19, from 2020 to 2022, the number of new cases was 14,919 and the incidence of TB was 101 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The highest proportion of cases remained for males and for the age group 20 to 39 years old, followed by 40 to 59 years old in 2020 and 2021. However, in 2022 there was an inversion between age groups, with a higher proportion of TB between 40 and 59 years old. Regarding treatment outcomes, there were reductions of 33% in TB treatment dropout and 25% in primary dropout. Despite this, there was a 44% reduction in the number of patients cured of TB. Changing treatment regimens increased by 64% and multidrug resistant TB decreased by 18%. Regarding deaths of patients with TB, there was a small increase (2%) in deaths from TB and a 20% reduction in deaths from other causes. Ignored or unfilled outcomes increased 3.97 times post-pandemic. Conclusion After the emergence of COVID-19, there was an 11.2% drop in the number of new TB cases in Bahia. Despite the reduction in treatment abandonment, an increase in the number of uncured patients and a slight increase in the number of deaths from TB was observed. The significant increase in ignored or unfilled outcomes can be justified by the reallocation of resources for coping with COVID-19, generating less follow-up of active cases and those undergoing treatment for TB from 2020 to 2022. Implications Epidemiological monitoring allows tracing and comparing the profile of patients, knowing health-related outcomes, identifying changes and measuring the impact of COVID-19 on TB care and control, in order to help adapt strategies and goals for better management of patients undergoing treatment and contacts.

Abstract:After presenting the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) in china, it has spread rapidly in the community and now has declared as a pandemic causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). At the date of writing this report, the COVID-19 has affected 192 countries and one international conveyance (the Diamond Princess cruise ship harbored in Yokohama, Japan) around the world with the total cases of 341,529. In Iran, the emergence of the disease was reported with two cases of COVID-19 deaths in Qom city on February 19, 2020, that caused great concern for the health system and the general public. It was rapidly spread around the country and reach to 21,638 definite cases by March 22, 2020. The special nature of the disease in rapid transmission among individuals in society requires urgent measures and serious actions to control it as quickly as possible. In this report, we describe the current status of the COVID-19 response strategy for reducing transmission in public and patient load in hospitals in Iran. Although Iran has tried to use the successful experience of other countries, such as China, for various reasons, such as non-quarantine of Qom province, as the primary site of disease propagation, lack of public quarantine, lack of seriousness by some citizens and officials, the lack of facilities and personal protective equipment needed for staff use, and restrictions regarding purchasing equipment from other countries due to international sanctions, have served as obstacles to achieve good results.
COVID-19 and Tuberculosis Coinfection: An Overview of Case Reports/Case Series and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and tuberculosis (TB) are two major infectious diseases posing significant public health threats, and their coinfection (aptly abbreviated COVID-TB) makes the situation worse. This study aimed to investigate the clinical features and prognosis of COVID-TB cases. Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, CNKI, and Wanfang databases were searched for relevant studies published through December 18, 2020. An overview of COVID-TB case reports/case series was prepared that described their clinical characteristics and differences between survivors and deceased patients. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for death or severe COVID-19 were calculated. The quality of outcomes was assessed using GRADEpro. Results: Thirty-six studies were included. Of 89 COVID-TB patients, 19 (23.46%) died, and 72 (80.90%) were male. The median age of non-survivors (53.95 ± 19.78 years) was greater than that of survivors (37.76 ± 15.54 years) ( p < 0.001). Non-survivors were more likely to have hypertension (47.06 vs. 17.95%) or symptoms of dyspnea (72.73% vs. 30%) or bilateral lesions (73.68 vs. 47.14%), infiltrates (57.89 vs. 24.29%), tree in bud (10.53% vs. 0%), or a higher leucocyte count (12.9 [10.5–16.73] vs. 8.015 [4.8–8.97] × 10 9 /L) than survivors ( p < 0.05). In terms of treatment, 88.52% received anti-TB therapy, 50.82% received antibiotics, 22.95% received antiviral therapy, 26.23% received hydroxychloroquine, and 11.48% received corticosteroids. The pooled ORs of death or severe disease in the COVID-TB group and the non-TB group were 2.21 (95% CI: 1.80, 2.70) and 2.77 (95% CI: 1.33, 5.74) ( P < 0.01), respectively. Conclusion: In summary, there appear to be some predictors of worse prognosis among COVID-TB cases. A moderate level of evidence suggests that COVID-TB patients are more likely to suffer severe disease or death than COVID-19 patients. Finally, routine screening for TB may be recommended among suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in countries with high TB burden.

Abstract:Background: The coinfection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2 is called tuberculosis and COVID-19 coinfection (TB-COVID-19). We aimed to share the clinical, radiological, and laboratory findings and treatment processes of our patients with TB-COVID-19 coinfection in our tertiary reference hospital. Methods: Patients aged 18 years and over and hospitalized in the tuberculosis service between March 2020 and September 2022 were included. All coinfected patients whose COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction results were positive while receiving tuberculosis treatment or who were diagnosed with tuberculosis while receiving treatment for COVID-19 were included. Results: The number of patients was 39; 61.6% of males; the mean age was 52 ± 17.1 years; 20% were foreign nationals; 92.5% were Asian; 69.5% had a bacteriological diagnosis; 84.6% had pulmonary tuberculosis; 10% had received antituberculosis treatment before; and 87.5% were sensitive to the first-line antituberculosis drugs. The most common comorbidities were diabetes and hypertension. 87.5% of the patients were diagnosed with tuberculosis and were superinfected with COVID-19 while receiving tuberculosis treatment. 49.5% of patients had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The most common presenting symptom was cough and sputum; the prominent laboratory parameter was C-reactive protein increase, and thorax computed tomography finding was consolidation, tree-in-bud, and cavitation. While 45.9% of the patients were still under treatment, 1 (2.5%) patient also resulted in mortality. Conclusion: In this study, attention was drawn to two infectious diseases seen with respiratory tract symptoms. The mortality rate was found to be low. Neither disease was found to be a factor aggravating the course of each other.
Systematic review and meta-analysis of Tuberculosis and COVID-19 Co-infection: Prevalence, fatality, and treatment considerations

Abstract:Tuberculosis (TB) and COVID-19 co-infection poses a significant global health challenge with increased fatality rates and adverse outcomes. However, the existing evidence on the epidemiology and treatment of TB-COVID co-infection remains limited. This updated systematic review aimed to investigate the prevalence, fatality rates, and treatment outcomes of TB-COVID co-infection. A comprehensive search across six electronic databases spanning November 1, 2019, to January 24, 2023, was conducted. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist assessed risk of bias of included studies, and meta-analysis estimated co-infection fatality rates and relative risk. From 5,095 studies screened, 17 were included. TB-COVID co-infection prevalence was reported in 38 countries or regions, spanning both high and low TB prevalence areas. Prevalence estimates were approximately 0.06% in West Cape Province, South Africa, and 0.02% in California, USA. Treatment approaches for TB-COVID co-infection displayed minimal evolution since 2021. Converging findings from diverse studies underscored increased hospitalization risks, extended recovery periods, and accelerated mortality compared to single COVID-19 cases. The pooled fatality rate among co-infected patients was 7.1% (95%CI: 4.0% ~ 10.8%), slightly lower than previous estimates. In-hospital co-infected patients faced a mean fatality rate of 11.4% (95%CI: 5.6% ~ 18.8%). The pooled relative risk of in-hospital fatality was 0.8 (95% CI, 0.18–3.68) for TB-COVID patients versus single COVID patients. TB-COVID co-infection is increasingly prevalent worldwide, with fatality rates gradually declining but remaining higher than COVID-19 alone. This underscores the urgency of continued research to understand and address the challenges posed by TB-COVID co-infection. Tuberculosis (TB) and COVID-19, both highly infectious diseases, have posed significant global health challenges, particularly in low/middle-income countries (LMICs) with limited medical resources. Our research highlights that TB-COVID co-infection remains a substantial concern, impacting regions with varying TB burdens. The predominant treatment approach for TB-COVID co-infection has not notably evolved since our earlier study in 2021. It typically involves a combination of the recommended TB regimen and standard COVID-19 treatment. Our analysis consistently shows that individuals with TB-COVID co-infection are at heightened risk of hospitalization, protracted recovery periods, and accelerated mortality compared to those with sole COVID-19 infections. Remarkably, we found limited information on the post-COVID-19 condition of co-infected patients. One study indicated a higher prevalence of anxiety symptoms, highlighting the potential psychological toll of TB-COVID co-infection. Although the fatality rate has gradually decreased, it remains notably higher than that of COVID-19 alone. Our findings underscore the urgent need for global collaboration to address the complex challenges posed by TB-COVID co-infection, particularly in countries with limited medical resources.

Abstract:Abstract Background The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged as a global health and economic security threat with staggering cumulative incidence worldwide. Given the severity of projections, hospitals across the globe are creating additional critical care surge capacity and limiting patient routine access to care for other diseases like tuberculosis (TB). The outbreak fuels panic in sub-Saharan Africa where the healthcare system is fragile in withstanding the disease. Here, we looked over the COVID-19 containment measures in Ethiopia in context from reliable sources and put forth recommendations that leverage the health system response to COVID-19 and TB. Main text Ethiopia shares a major proportion of the global burden of infectious diseases, while the patterns of COVID-19 are still at an earlier stage of the epidemiology curve. The Ethiopian government exerted tremendous efforts to curb the disease. It limited public gatherings, ordered school closures, directed high-risk civil servants to work from home, and closed borders. It suspended flights to 120 countries and restricted mass transports. It declared a five-month national state of emergency and granted a pardon for 20 402 prisoners. It officially postponed parliamentary and presidential elections. It launched the ‘PM Abiy-Jack Ma initiative’, which supports African countries with COVID-19 diagnostics and infection prevention and control commodities. It expanded its COVID-19 testing capacity to 38 countrywide laboratories. Many institutions are made available to provide clinical care and quarantine. However, the outbreak still has the potential for greater loss of life in Ethiopia if the community is unable to shape the regular behavioral and sociocultural norms that would facilitate the spread of the disease. The government needs to keep cautious that irregular migrants would fuel the disease. A robust testing capacity is needed to figure out the actual status of the disease. The pandemic has reduced TB care and research activities significantly and these need due attention. Conclusions Ethiopia took several steps to detect, manage, and control COVID-19. More efforts are needed to increase testing capacity and bring about behavioral changes in the community. The country needs to put in place alternative options to mitigate interruptions of essential healthcare services and scientific researches of significant impact.

Abstract:A method of using footprints as a basis for generating animated locomotion is proposed. An optimization process is used to maximize the physical plausibility and perceived comfort of a motion which is constrained to match given footprint and timing information. The proposed method creates plausible walking, turning, leaping, and running motions for bipedal figures at interactive rates. Autonomous motions are generated using a planning algorithm which dynamically generates new footprints and the associated new motions.

Abstract:Many contagious diseases, such as plague or cholera, played a role in changing the pathway of history. In this respect, although coronavirus was not as dangerous as novel diseases such as swine flu and Ebola, the spread and the power of coronavirus infiltration caused public fear across the world. Three viruses among coronaviruses have been epidemic during the recent years, including severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), and COVID-19 or new coronavirus. Respiratory droplets transmit the coronavirus through direct and indirect contact, and it can be transmitted through the contact in the case of remaining, the infected person's secretion on the surface. Based on the conducted studies on the treatment of COVID-19 disease, there is virtually no cure or vaccine for coronavirus infections yet. Those infected with Covid 19 are quarantined to prevent the outbreak of this disease. However, the researchers carried out different studies to investigate the impact of the various drugs on this virus, which in this study, we will examine the outline of this disease and the other conducted studies.

Abstract:Introduction: Since the outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) began, necessary measures to prevent virus transmission and reduce mortality have been implemented, including mandatory public use of masks, regular hand-sanitizing and hand-washing, social distancing, avoidance of crowds, remote work, and cancellation of public events. During and after the introduction of COVID-19 lockout, we performed a systematic review of available published literature to investigate the incidence of seasonal influenza and other respiratory viral infections. Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Research Gate, and the World Health Organization databases and websites were systematically searched for original studies concerning the impact of COVID-19 prevention means and measures on other common respiratory infectious diseases during the pandemic published by March 2021. Results: The findings showed that the adherence to health protocols to prevent COVID-19 could help to reduce the incidence of other infectious diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Conclusion: The implemented prevention measures and protocols might have reduced the incidence of influenza and some other common respiratory infections. However, controversies exist on this matter and future large population-based studies might provide further information to address these controversies.
