Abstract:Small RNAs, especially microRNAs (miRNAs), play an essential role in the responses and adaptations of plants to many stresses, including salt stress. Characterizing miRNAs that correlate with salt stress will improve our understanding of salt tolerance and thus contribute to the sustainable production of maize. In our previous research, small RNA sequencing and degradome sequencing was performed on a maize inbred line (LH196), and many salt stress-responsive miRNAs and their targets were identified. In this study, the identity of target genes of miR164a was confirmed by quantitative expression analysis. Furthermore, the interactions between miR164a and its target genes were examined in a preliminary experiment using overexpression and target mimicry under salt treatment in maize. The results show that Zma-miR164 may respond to salt stress; because the expression of zma-miR164 was decreased with salt stress, leading to a significant increase in the expression of its target genes GRMZM2G114850 (the NAC transcription factor family proteins NAM, ATAF, and CUC) and GRMZM2G008819 (electron carrier). The NAC transcription factors respond to salt stress by regulating the expression pattern of their downstream genes.
Effect of Magnetic Treatment on the Tomato Seeding MDH

Abstract:The tomato seedlings was treated in the magnetic field or the magnetized water of which the magnetic intensity is 0.10 T, 0.14 T and 0.18 T respectively. The samples are collected randomly at the cotyledon and euphylla stage seeding respectively for testing. The activity of MDH was analyzed by means of Ultraviolet spectrophotometric method and meanwhile the MDH isoenzyme spectrum were studied by means of polyacrylamide gel electrophoreses method. The results show that the activity of MDH has increased in the tomato through the mahnetic treatment, isoenzyme spectra were varied and new spectral bands were appeared. When AMD was added into the tomato seeding in the control group which magnetic treatment was adopted, the new isoenzyme bands disappeared. It suggested that the magnetic treatment possibly affect the gene expression. However, the MDH activity in the control group were still much more than that in the corresponding ones.
Comprehensive Transcriptome and Proteome Analyses Reveal a Novel Sodium Chloride Responsive Gene Network in Maize Seed Tissues During Germination

Abstract:Germination is a plant developmental process by which radicle of mature seeds start to penetrate surrounding barriers for seedling establishment and multiple environmental factors have been shown to affect it. Little is known how high salinity affects seed germination of C4 plant, Zea mays. Preliminary germination assay suggested that isolated embryo alone was able to germinate under 200 mM NaCl treatment, whereas the intact seeds were highly repressed. We hypothesized that maize endosperm may function in perception and transduction of salt signal to surrounding tissues such as embryo, showing a completely different response to that in Arabidopsis. Since salt response involves ABA, we analysed in vivo ABA distribution and quantity and the result demonstrated that ABA level in isolated embryo under NaCl treatment failed to increase in comparison with the water control, suggesting that the elevation of ABA level is an endosperm dependent process. Subsequently, by using advanced profiling techniques such as RNA sequencing and SWATH-MS-based quantitative proteomics, we found substantial differences in post-transcriptional and translational changes between salt-treated embryo and endosperm. In summary, our results indicate that these regulatory mechanisms, such as alternative splicing, are likely to mediate early responses to salt stress during maize seed germination.

Abstract:The geomagnetic field (GMF) has been present since the beginning of plant evolution. Recently, some researchers have focused their efforts on employing magnetic fields (MFs) higher than GMF to improve the seed germination, growth, and harvest of agriculturally important crop plants, as the use of MFs is an inexpensive and environment-friendly technique. In this study, we have employed different treatments of MF at 7 mT (milliTesla) at different time points of exposure, including 1, 3, and 6 h. The extended exposure was followed by five consecutive days at 6 h per day in barley seeds. The results showed a positive impact of MF on growth characteristics for 5-day-old seedlings, including seed germination rate, root and shoot length, and biomass weight. Furthermore, ~5 days of delay of flowering in pre-treated plants was also observed. We used a shotgun proteomics approach to identify changes in the protein signatures of root and shoot tissues under MF effects. In total, we have identified 2,896 proteins. Thirty-eight proteins in the shoot and 15 proteins in the root showed significant changes under the MF effect. Proteins involved in primary metabolic pathways were increased in contrast to proteins with a metal ion binding function, proteins that contain iron ions in their structure, and proteins involved in electron transfer chain, which were all decreased significantly in the treated tissues. The upregulated proteins' overall biological processes included carbohydrate metabolic process, oxidation-reduction process, and cell redox homeostasis, while down-regulated processes included translation and protein refolding. In general, shoot response was more affected by MF effect than root tissue, leading to the identification of 41 shoot specific proteins. This study provides an initial insight into the proteome regulation response to MF during barley's seedling stage.

Abstract:Crop yield can be raised by establishment of adequate plant stand using seeds with high germination ratio and vigor. Various pre-sowing treatments are adopted to achieve this objective. One of these approaches is the exposure of seeds to a low-to-medium level magnetic field (MF), in pulsed and continuous modes, as they have shown positive results in a number of crop seeds. On the basis of the sensitivity of plants to MF, different types of MF have been used for magnetopriming studies, such as weak static homogeneous magnetic fields (0–100 μT, including GMF), strong homogeneous magnetic fields (milliTesla to Tesla), and extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields of low-to-moderate (several hundred μT) magnetic flux densities. The agronomic application of MFs in plants has shown potential in altering conventional plant production systems; increasing mean germination rates, and root and shoot growth; having high productivity; increasing photosynthetic pigment content; and intensifying cell division, as well as water and nutrient uptake. Furthermore, different studies suggest that MFs prevent the large injuries produced/inflicted by diseases and pests on agricultural crops and other economically important plants and assist in reducing the oxidative damage in plants caused by stress situations. An improved understanding of the interactions between the MF and the plant responses could revolutionize crop production through increased resistance to disease and stress conditions, as well as the superiority of nutrient and water utilization, resulting in the improvement of crop yield. In this review, we summarize the potential applications of MF and the key processes involved in agronomic applications. Furthermore, in order to ensure both the safe usage and acceptance of this new opportunity, the adverse effects are also discussed.
Static magnetic field stimulates growth of maize seeds

Abstract:The physical pre-treatment of seeds is a growing field of research in agricultural biotechnology. Among its possibilities, magnetopriming of seeds has received increasing attention in the last two decades. Inspired by remarkable reports of the literature on the effects of static magnetic fields (SMF) on maize seeds, we performed similar experiments, though expanding the range of SMF up to 350 mT, higher than most of the reported studies. With exposure durations of 1 h, we tested 7 different SMF intensities, from 50 to 350 mT at increments of 50 mT. We challenged our findings with an exhaustive analysis of the background static and alternated magnetic fields inside the stove where the germinations took place, in order to rule out background fields as a confounding variable. We found a maximum effect of 108.9 % increase (more than double) in the average total length of plantules at 150 mT, at the 10th day of germination. All other intensities, except 350 mT, also induced a significant growth stimulation. While not seeming to represent a determinant factor, our analysis calls the attention to the possible relevance of different conditions in different levels and zones of standard stoves. Our findings are in line with numerous studies pointing to magnetopriming of maize seeds as a novel, viable and reproducible physical treatment for the enhancement of germination.

Abstract:Abstract Background Nicotianamine (NA), 2′-deoxymugineic acid (DMA), and mugineic acid (MA) are chelators required for iron uptake and transport in plants. Nicotianamine aminotransferase (NAAT), 2′-deoxymugineic acid synthase (DMAS), transporter of MAs (TOM), and efflux transporter of NA (ENA) are involved in iron uptake and transport in rice ( Oryza sativa ), wheat ( Triticum aestivum ), and barley ( Hordeum vulgare ); however, these families have not been fully identified and comprehensively analyzed in maize ( Zea mays L.). Results Here, we identified 5 ZmNAAT , 9 ZmDMAS , 11 ZmTOM , and 2 ZmENA genes by genome mining. RNA-sequencing and quantitative real-time PCR analysis revealed that these genes are expressed in various tissues and respond differently to high and low iron conditions. In particular, iron deficiency stimulated the expression of ZmDMAS1 , ZmTOM1 , ZmTOM3 , and ZmENA1 . Furthermore, we determined protein subcellular localization by transient expression of green fluorescent protein fusions in maize mesophyll protoplasts. ZmNAAT1, ZmNAAT-L4, ZmDMAS1, and ZmDMAS-L1 localized in the cytoplasm, whereas ZmTOMs and ZmENAs targeted to plasma and tonoplast membranes, endomembranes, and vesicles. Conclusions Our results suggest that the different gene expression profiles and subcellular localizations of ZmNAAT, ZmDMAS, ZmTOM, and ZmENA family members may enable specific regulation of phytosiderophore metabolism in different tissues and under different external conditions, shedding light on iron homeostasis in maize and providing candidate genes for breeding iron-rich maize varieties.

Abstract:Natriuretic peptide receptors (NPR) are expressed in thyroid-derived cells, including the rat FRTL-5 thyroid cell line. We have previously demonstrated that atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) binding consistent with the NPR-A receptor is significantly increased in FRTL-5 cells cultured in the presence of TSH. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether TSH treatment, therefore, results in higher levels of ANF-induced intracellular cGMP, and whether TSH elicits similar effects on cGMP signaling through the NPR-B receptor. We now show that contrary to expectation, long term exposure to 1 mIU/ml bovine TSH (6H medium) does not significantly alter maximal ANF-induced cGMP formation. Moreover, TSH treatment decreased C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP)-induced cGMP generation in FRTL-5 cells, suggesting a down-regulation of NPR-B. A similar effect of TSH on ANF- and CNP-induced cGMP was observed in FRTL cells, the precursor of the FRTL-5 cell line. Scatchard analysis of [125I]ANF binding in TSH-treated (6H) FRTL-5 cultures indicated a 5.6-fold increase in high affinity ANF-binding sites compared with TSH-deficient (5H) cultures [binding capacity (Bmax) of 6H cells, 227.2 +/- 33.7 fmol/mg protein; Bmax of 5H cells, 40.2 +/- 4.7 fmol/mg protein]. The effect of TSH on [125I]ANF binding was mimicked by forskolin and (Bu)2cAMP, indicating receptor up-regulation via a cAMP pathway. High affinity [125I]CNP-binding sites were present in much lower abundance (Bmax of 5H, 0.80 +/- 0.06 fmol/mg protein), and no effect of TSH treatment on them could be demonstrated. However, low affinity [125I]CNP binding was increased by TSH. RT-PCR confirmed the presence of both NPR-A and NPR-B transcripts in FRTL-5 cells and showed that TSH treatment significantly decreased NPR-B, but not NPR-A. NPR-C transcript was not detectable by RT-PCR in FRTL-5 cells cultured in high TSH medium, suggesting that the ANF-binding sites increased by TSH are not NPR-C. Both CNP and ANF transcript were also expressed in FRTL-5 cells, and CNP was increased by TSH. Together the data support the down-regulation of functional NPR-B and no change in functional NPR-A by TSH. The vast majority of ANF-binding sites in FRTL-5 cells, therefore, are not coupled to cGMP production and may represent a novel or altered form of NPR that is regulated by TSH independently of NPR-A and NPR-B.
Inducing salt tolerance in sweet corn by magnetic priming

Abstract:This study evaluates seed germination and growth of sweet corn under NaCl stress (0, 50, and 100 mM), after exposing the seeds to weak (15 mT) or strong (150 mT) magnetic fields (MF) for different durations (0, 6, 12, and 24 hours). Salinity reduced seed germination and plant growth. MF treatments enhanced rate and percentage of germination and improved plant growth, regardless of salinity. Higher germination rate was obtained by the stronger MF, however, the seedling were more vigorous after priming with 15 mT MF. Proline accumulation was observed in parallel with the loss of plant water content under 100 mM NaCl stress. MF prevented proline accumulation by improving water absorption. Positive correlation between H 2 O 2 accumulation and membrane thermostability (MTI) was found after MF treatments, which revealed that MF primed the plant for salinity by H 2 O 2 signaling. However, over-accumulation of H 2 O 2 after prolonged MF exposure adversely affected MTI under severe salt stress. In conclusion, magnetic priming for 6 hours was suggested for enhancing germination and growth of sweet corn under salt stress.

Abstract:Root hairs are reported to be plastic in response to nutrient supply, but relatively little is known about their development in response to magnesium (Mg) availability. Here, we showed that development of root hairs of Arabidopsis decreased progressively with increasing Mg supply, which was related to the initiation of new trichoblast files and likelihood of trichoblasts to form hairs. Tip-focused reactive oxygen species (ROS) and cytosolic Ca(2+) concentrations [(Ca(2+) )c] during elongation of root hairs were enhanced under low Mg but decreased under high Mg. Under low Mg, application of diphenylene iodonium (DPI) or BAPTA [1,2-bis(o-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid] blocked the enhanced development of root hairs and the opposite was true when the plants under high Mg were treated with phenazine methosulphate (PMS), methyl viologen (MV) or CaCl2 . Furthermore, Mg availability did not alter root hair growth in rhd2-1 mutant that contains lower levels of ROS and cytosolic [Ca(2+) ]c. Transcriptome data and qPCR results revealed a greater fraction of morphogenetic H-genes, and cell wall organization genes were up-regulated by low Mg but down-regulated by high Mg. Our data suggest a profound effect of Mg supply on the development of root hairs in Arabidopsis, through the characterized Ca(2+) and ROS signals that modulate the elongation of root hairs and the expression of root-hair morphogenetic genes.

Abstract:Static magnetic field (SMF) plays important roles in various biological processes of many organisms including plants, though the molecular mechanism remains largely unclear. Here in this study, we evaluated different magnetic setups to test their effects on growth and development on Arabidopsis ( Arabidopsis thaliana ), and discovered that plant growth was significantly enhanced by inhomogeneous SMF generated by a regular triangular prism magnet perpendicular to the direction of gravity. Comparative transcriptomic analysis revealed that auxin synthesis and signal transduction genes were upregulated by SMF exposure. SMF also facilitated plants to maintain the iron homeostasis. The expression of iron metabolism-related genes was downregulated by SMF, however, the iron content in plant tissues remains relatively unchanged. Furthermore, SMF exposure also helped the plants to reduce ROS level and synergistically maintain the oxidant balance by enhanced activity of antioxidant enzymes and accumulation of nicotinamide. Taken together, our data suggested that SMF is involved in regulating the growth and development of Arabidopsis thaliana through maintaining iron homeostasis and balancing oxidative stress, which could be beneficial for plant survival and growth. The work presented here would extend our understanding of the mechanism and the regulatory network of how magnetic field affects the plant growth, which would provide insights into the development of novel plant synthetic biology technologies to engineer stress-resistant and high-yielding crops.

Abstract:The geomagnetic field (GMF) is a natural component of Earth's biosphere. GMF reduction to near-null values (NNMF) induces gene expression modulation that generates biomolecular, morphological, and developmental changes. Here, we evaluate the effect of NNMF on gene expression and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in time-course experiments on Arabidopsis thaliana. Plants exposed to NNMF in a triaxial Helmholtz coils system were sampled from 10 min to 96 h to evaluate differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of oxidative stress responses by gene microarray. In 24–96 h developing stages, H2O2 and polyphenols were also analyzed from roots and shoots. A total of 194 DEGs involved in oxidative reactions were selected, many of which showed a fold change ≥±2 in at least one timing point. Heatmap clustering showed DEGs both between roots/shoots and among the different time points. NNMF induced a lower H2O2 than GMF, in agreement with the expression of ROS-related genes. Forty-four polyphenols were identified, the content of which progressively decreased during NNMF exposition time. The comparison between polyphenols content and DEGs showed overlapping patterns. These results indicate that GMF reduction induces metabolomic and transcriptomic modulation of ROS-scavenging enzymes and H2O2 production in A. thaliana, which is paralleled by the regulation of antioxidant polyphenols.

The workspace is characterized in a half-cross section by the singular curves. The workspace topology is defined by the number of cusps and nodes that appear on these singular curves. Based on this classification, we evaluate theses manipulators by the condition number related to the joint space and the proportion of the region with four inverse kinematic solutions compared to a sphere containing all the workspace. This second performance number is in relation with the workspace. We determine finally le topology of workspace to which belong manipulators having the best performance number values.

Abstract:A deficiency in the macronutrient phosphate (Pi) brings about various changes in plants at the morphological, physiological and molecular levels. However, the molecular mechanism for regulating Pi homeostasis in response to low-Pi remains poorly understood, particularly in maize (Zea mays L.), which is a staple crop and requires massive amounts of Pi. Therefore, in this study, we performed expression profiling of the shoots and roots of maize seedlings with Pi-tolerant genotype at both the transcriptomic and proteomic levels using RNA sequencing and isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ). We identified 1944 differentially expressed transcripts and 340 differentially expressed proteins under low-Pi conditions. Most of the differentially expressed genes were clustered as regulators, such as transcription factors involved in the Pi signaling pathway at the transcript level. However, the more functional and metabolism-related genes showed expression changes at the protein level. Moreover, under low-Pi conditions, Pi transporters and phosphatases were specifically induced in the roots at both the transcript and protein levels, and increased amounts of mRNA and protein of two purple acid phosphatases (PAPs) and one UDP-sulfoquinovose synthase (SQD) were specifically detected in the roots. The new insights provided by this study will help to improve the P-utilization efficiency of maize.
Nitrogen supply affects ion homeostasis by modifying root Casparian strip formation through the miR528-LAC3 module in maize

Abstract:Although nitrogen (N) is known to affect mineral element homeostasis in plants, the molecular mechanisms of interactions between N and other nutrients remain largely unclear. We report here that N supply affects ion homeostasis in maize. Berberine hemisulfate staining and a propidium iodide penetration assay showed that N luxury significantly delayed Casparian strip (CS) formation in maize roots. We further demonstrated that N-mediated CS formation in maize was independent of RBOHF-activated H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub> production. N luxury induced the expression of ZmmiR528 in whole roots and root tips. Knockdown and loss-of-function of ZmmiR528 promoted CS formation under both N-luxury and N-deficient conditions. Both ZmMIR528a and ZmMIR528b contribute to early CS formation under different N conditions. RNA-seq and real-time RT-PCR analysis demonstrated that ZmLAC3, but not ZmLAC5, responded to N treatments. Consistent with results obtained with ZmmiR528 TM transgenic maize and mir528a/b loss-of-function mutants, transgenic maize overexpressing ZmLAC3 displayed early CS formation under different N conditions. Under field conditions, K, Ca, Mn, Cu, Mg, and Zn concentrations were greater in the ear leaf of ZmLAC3-overexpressing transgenic maize than in the wild type. These results indicate that ZmmiR528 affects CS formation in maize by regulating the expression of ZmLAC3, and modification of CS formation has the potential to improve maize quality.

Abstract:Multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) proteins are a group of secondary active transporters, which widely exist in all living organisms and play important role in the detoxication of endogenous secondary metabolites and exogenous agents. However, to date, no systematic and comprehensive study of this family is reported in maize. Here, a total of 49 MATE genes (ZmMATE) were identified and divided into seven groups by phylogenetic analysis. Conserved intro–exon structures and motif compositions were investigated in these genes. Results by gene locations indicated that these genes were unevenly distributed among all 10 chromosomes. Tandem and segmental duplications appeared to contribute to the expansion and evolution of this gene family. The Ka/ Ks ratios suggested that the ZmMATE has undergone large-scale purifying selection on the maize genome. Interspecies microsynteny analysis revealed that there were independent gene duplication events of 10 ZmMATE. In addition, most maize MATE genes exhibited different expression profiles in diverse tissues and developmental stages. Sixteen MATE genes were chosen for further quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis showed differential expression patterns in response to aluminum treatment. These results provide a useful clue for future studies on the identification of MATE genes and functional analysis of MATE proteins in maize.

Decoding the stem cell quiescence cycle – lessons from yeast for regenerative biology

Abstract:ABSTRACT In the past decade, major advances have occurred in the understanding of mammalian stem cell biology, but roadblocks (including gaps in our fundamental understanding) remain in translating this knowledge to regenerative medicine. Interestingly, a close analysis of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae literature leads to an appreciation of how much yeast biology has contributed to the conceptual framework underpinning our understanding of stem cell behavior, to the point where such insights have been internalized into the realm of the known. This Opinion article focuses on one such example, the quiescent adult mammalian stem cell, and examines concepts underlying our understanding of quiescence that can be attributed to studies in yeast. We discuss the metabolic, signaling and gene regulatory events that control entry and exit into quiescence in yeast. These processes and events retain remarkable conservation and conceptual parallels in mammalian systems, and collectively suggest a regulated program beyond the cessation of cell division. We argue that studies in yeast will continue to not only reveal fundamental concepts in quiescence, but also leaven progress in regenerative medicine. Summary: This Opinion article examines key concepts underlying our understanding of stem cell quiescence that can be attributed to studies in yeast.
Cis- regulation of the amino acid transporter genes ZmAAP2 and ZmLHT1 by ZmPHR1 transcription factors in maize ear under phosphate limitation

Abstract:Abstract Phosphorus and nitrogen nutrition have profound and complicated innate connections; however, underlying molecular mechanisms are mostly elusive. PHR1 is a master phosphate signaling component, and whether it directly functions in phosphorus–nitrogen crosstalk remains a particularly interesting question. In maize, nitrogen limitation caused tip kernel abortion and ear shortening. By contrast, moderately low phosphate in the field reduced kernels across the ear, maintained ear elongation and significantly lowered concentrations of total free amino acids and soluble proteins 2 weeks after silking. Transcriptome profiling revealed significant enrichment and overall down-regulation of transport genes in ears under low phosphate. Importantly, 313 out of 847 differentially expressed genes harbored PHR1 binding sequences (P1BS) including those controlling amino acid/polyamine transport and metabolism. Specifically, both ZmAAP2 and ZmLHT1 are plasma membrane-localized broad-spectrum amino acid transporters, and ZmPHR1.1 and ZmPHR1.2 were able to bind to P1BS-containing ZmAAP2 and ZmLHT1 and down-regulate their expression in planta. Taken together, the results suggest that prevalence of P1BS elements enables ZmPHR1s to regulate a large number of low phosphate responsive genes. Further, consistent with reduced accumulation of free amino acids, ZmPHR1s down-regulate ZmAAP2 and ZmLHT1 expression as direct linkers of phosphorus and nitrogen nutrition independent of NIGT1 in maize ear under low phosphate.

Abstract:The macronutrient phosphorus is essential for plant growth and development. Plants have evolved multiple strategies to increase the efficiency of phosphate (Pi) acquisition to protect themselves from Pi starvation. However, the crosstalk between Pi homeostasis and plant development remains to be explored. Here, we report that overexpressing microRNA399 (miR399) in maize (Zea mays) is associated with premature senescence after pollination. Knockout of ZmPHO2 (Phosphate 2), a miR399 target, resulted in a similar premature senescence phenotype. Strikingly, we discovered that INDETERMINATE1 (ID1), a floral transition regulator, inhibits the transcription of ZmMIR399 genes by directly binding to their promoters, alleviating the repression of ZmPHO2 by miR399 and ultimately contributing to the maintenance of Pi homeostasis in maize. Unlike ZmMIR399 genes, whose expression is induced by Pi deficiency, ID1 expression was independent of the external inorganic orthophosphate status, indicating that ID1 is an autonomous regulator of Pi homeostasis. Furthermore, we show that ZmPHO2 was under selection during maize domestication and cultivation, resulting in a more sensitive response to Pi starvation in temperate maize than in tropical maize. Our study reveals a direct functional link between Pi-deprivation sensing by the miR399-ZmPHO2 regulatory module and plant developmental regulation by ID1.

Abstract:Maize is a valuable raw material for feed and food production. Healthy seed germination is important for improving the yield and quality of maize. However, the molecular mechanisms that regulate maize seed germination remain unclear. In this study, multi-omics was used to reveal the molecular mechanism of seed germination induced by gibberellin (GA) in maize. The results indicated that 25,603 genes were differentially expressed (DEGs) and annotated in the GO database, of which 2515 genes were annotated in the KEGG database. In addition, 791 mature miRNAs with different expression levels were identified, of which 437 were known in the miRbase database and 354 were novel miRNAs. Integrative analysis of DEGs and miRNAs suggested that carbohydrate, lipid, amino acid, and energy metabolisms are the primary metabolic pathways in maize seed germination. Interestingly, a lipid metabolism-related gene named ZmSLP was found to negatively regulate maize germination. We transformed this gene into Arabidopsis thaliana to verify its function. The results showed that the germination rate of transgenic Arabidopsis seeds was obviously decreased, and the growth of seedlings was weaker and slower than that of WT plants, suggesting that this gene plays an important role in promoting seed germination. These findings provide a valuable reference for further research on the mechanisms of maize seed germination.
