Abstract:Abstract This study investigated the effects of peat (PT) and maize straw biochar (MSB) on gas emissions and microbial metabolism characteristics during chicken manure (CM) and maize straw (MS) composting. Three treatments with different additives (0%, 5% PT, 5% MSB added on dry weight basis) were designed to conduct 30-day aerobic composting experiments in nine insulated polyvinyl chloride (PVC) reactors. The results showed that PT and MSB addition increased the temperature and nitrate-nitrogen (NO 3 − –N) content but decreased the ammonium nitrogen (NH 4 + –N) content of compost. Compared with control, the total emissions of methane (CH 4 ), nitrous oxide (N 2 O) and ammonia (NH 3 ) in PT and MSB were reduced by 20.13–30.57%, 28.88–47.46% and 37.35–52.71%, respectively. In addition, PT and MSB amendments improved the microbial utilization capacity on carbohydrates, esters and carboxylic acids. Redundancy analysis revealed that temperature, NH 4 + –N, pH and microbial metabolism were positively correlated with CH 4 , N 2 O and NH 3 emissions. Meanwhile, temperature, NH 4 + –N and pH also had positive correlations with microbial metabolism. Together these results indicated that PT and MSB amendment improved the metabolism capacity of microbes and reduced CH 4 , N 2 O and NH 3 emissions, eventually mitigating nitrogen loss and promoting the quality of compost product. Abstract:Maintaining humidification and inhibiting nitrogen losses during vermicomposting process have emerged to be key factors for high-quality productions. Previous data have showed outstanding functions of biochar addition in improving vermicomposting quality. In this study, the influence of bamboo biochar (BB) and rice husk biochar (RHB) addition on compost maturity, humification and nitrogen loss was evaluated in the vermicomposting of cattle manure and maize straw. Results revealed that BB or RHB amendment improved organic matter decomposition, enhanced humification and maturity of compost, particularly in the 10% BB treatment, which exerted the highest humic acids content and GI value. Furthermore, BB or RHB addition significantly reduced nitrogen losses, in which the volatilization of NH 3 and N 2 O were reduced by 24.93%–66.23% and 14.91%–55.12%. The fewest nitrogen loss was detected in the treatment of 10% BB. Biochar inhibited nirK , nirS but promoted AOB-amoA , nosZ expression; fewer N 2 O producing bacteria ( Pseudomonas , Devosia , Luteimonas genus) were observed in the biochar treatment, and thereby decreased the N 2 O emission. Therefore, 10% BB addition for co-vermicomposting cattle manure and maize straw is an efficient way to increase humification, maturity, and reduce nitrogen loss, and future applications following this strategy is believed to generate better productions.

Abstract:The effect of two different biochar types, rice straw biochar (RSB) and mushroom biochar (MB), on chicken manure composting was previously examined by monitoring the fate of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and arsenic. The behavior of ARGs and arsenic in other kinds of manure composting with the same biochar types had not been examined. In this study, we added either RSB or MB to pig and duck manure composts to study the behavior of ARGs (tet genes, sul genes, and chloramphenicol resistance genes) and arsenic under the same experimental condition. The results showed that the average removal values of selected ARGs were respectively 2.56 and 2.09 log units in duck and pig manure compost without the addition of biochar. The effect of biochar addition on the average removal value of ARGs depended on the type of biochar and manure. For instance, in pig manure compost, MB addition increased the average removal value of ARGs, while RSB addition decreased. And both biochar additions had a negative influence on the average removal value of ARGs in duck manure compost. Analytical results also demonstrated that MB addition reduced total arsenic and the percentage of bioavailable arsenic more than RSB.

Abstract:This study investigated the impacts of adding FeSO4 and biochar to cattle manure and rice straw composts on functional genes controlling nitrogen loss, bacterial community, nitrification, and denitrification. Four treatments were established, including a control group (CP), and CP mixtures that included 4% biochar (TG1), 4% FeSO4 (TG2), or 2% FeSO4 and 2% biochar (TG3). Compared to CP, TG1-3 had a lower total nitrogen loss rate, and TG3 resulted in reduced NH3 (52.4%) and N2O (35.6%) emissions to mitigate nitrogen loss. The abundance of amoA and narG gene in TG3 was higher than in the other groups, and TG3 was beneficial to the growth of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria. According to redundancy and Pearson analysis, TG3 had a positive effect on the nitrification process by increasing the abundance of amoA and narG. Thus, biochar and FeSO4 addition mitigate nitrogen loss by regulating the nitrification processes.

Abstract:The high-nitrogen content and dense structure of poultry manure compost cause volatilization of N to ammonia (NH3). This study evaluated the combined application of biochar and biotrickling filtration (BTF) to remove of odor in chicken manure mixed straw compost (w/w, 2.5:1). Adding of 10% biochar reduced NH3, hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) contents by 20.04%, 16.18%, and 17.55% respectively, and decreased the N loss rate by 8.27%, compared with those observed in control. The organic matter content decreased by 28.11% and germination index reached 97.36% in the experimental group. Meanwhile, the N-cycling microorganisms such as Pusillimonas and Pseudomonas became more active, and the relative abundance of sulfur-cycling microorganisms Hydrogenispora decreased in the experimental group. Following BTF application, the NH3, H2S, and TVOCs removal rates reached 95%, 97%, and 53%, respectively.

Neutrino astronomy with IceCube and

Abstract:Since the early 1990s, the South Pole has been the site of the construction of the world’s first under-ice Cherenkov neutrino telescopes AMANDA and IceCube. The AMANDA detector was completed in 2000, and its successor IceCube, a kilometre scale neutrino detector, began construction in 2005. Completion of IceCube is scheduled for 2011. This paper will give an overview of the history, construction, latest physics results and potential of these detectors. 1. The appeal of neutrino astronomy The road to a kilometre scale neutrino detector, pioneered by the DUMAND collaboration, has seen the operation of the first generation experiments, AMANDA and Lake Baikal, as well as initial construction and planning for IceCube, ANTARES, NESTOR, NEMO and KM3NET. The discovery of neutrinos with these detectors will hopefully extend and complement the knowledge of the universe to date gained through cosmic ray and gamma ray observations. While the nature and location of the cosmic ray sources are unknown, there are many confirmed sources of TeV gamma-rays. If one of these turned out to also be a neutrino source, then a hadronic accelerator central engine might be driving cosmic ray, gamma and neutrino production [2]. A neutrino detector like IceCube or AMANDA uses an array of photomultipliers to record Cherenkov light from through-going muons, or from point-like shower (“cascade”) events. Muons result from charged current interactions of neutrinos in the detector volume, or in the surrounding ice and rock. Cascade events result from charged and neutral current interactions of all neutrino flavours. The backgrounds to a search for a flux of high-energy extra-terrestrial neutrinos at the earth are atmospheric muons and neutrinos from the interaction of cosmic rays in the earth’s atmosphere. The atmospheric muons are eliminated by looking for events moving upward through the detector – only neutrinos can penetrate the earth. A small fraction of the large downgoing muon flux will be falsely reconstructed in the upward direction. These are removed by tight requirements on the fitted track. After atmospheric muons are eliminated, there is a flux of atmospheric neutrinos seen in a detector. This can be used as a calibration test beam to check the understanding of the detector, or be used to look for new neutrino physics. A search for point sources of neutrinos is made by looking for an excess of events from a direction in the sky. Electromagnetic observations by other detectors may provide information to reduce the time over which such a search is made for instance in a search for neutrinos correlated with a gamma-ray burst. One can also look for a diffuse excess of neutrinos from the sum of all sources in the universe. Since the extra-terrestrial flux predictions tend to go as dN/dE ∼ E, one looks for higher energy events in the detector to separate them from the more steep atmospheric neutrino spectrum (dN/dE ∼ E). 2. Physics results from AMANDA The first detection of muon Cherenkov radiation in polar ice was made in Greenland in 1990 [3], using three photomultipliers deployed to a depth of about 200 metres. Following this success, similar tests were made at the South Pole over the next years, with the AMANDA-A detector deployed in 1993-94 [4]. Construction of the presently operating AMANDA detector took place from 1995 to 2000, over which time 677 optical modules were deployed over 19 strings, to depths ranging from 1500 to 2000 metres. The properties of the polar ice, critical for understanding of the detector, have been measured using light sources in the array [5]. Although most of AMANDA used analogue signal technology, digital technology, eventually chosen for IceCube, was tested on one string [6]. 2.1. Atmospheric neutrinos While three neutrino candidates were observed with the first four strings of AMANDA [7], the first compelling evidence of high-energy atmospheric neutrinos came from the 10 string 1997 data set, where 16 upgoing events were left after data reduction [8]. Dramatic improvements in the analysis techniques [9] increased this number to about 300 [10, 11]. Over the entire life of AMANDA-II, many thousands of atmospheric neutrinos have now been observed [12, 13]. These are the highest energy neutrinos ever observed. The observed rate is consistent with the uncertainties in theoretical predictions [14, 15]. A regularised unfolding technique has been used to make a best-fit to the originating energy spectrum; again consistency with expectation is seen [16]. The agreement of the atmospheric neutrino measurements with expectations shows that the detector is working as expected.
Enhanced Growth and Activities of the Dominant Functional Microbiota of Chicken Manure Composts in the Presence of Maize Straw

Abstract:As a consequence of intensive feeding, the bulk deposition of livestock manure causes severe environmental problems. Composting is a promising method for waste disposal, and the fermentation process is driven by microbial communities. However, chicken manure contains diverse gut microbes, mainly species derived from Proteobacteria, which may include pathogens that threaten human health. To evaluate composting as a harmless treatment of livestock manure, the dynamics of the microbiota in two chicken manure composts were studied, and the influences of adding maize straw on the compost microbiota were compared. The results revealed that microbes from Firmicutes including Bacillus and Lentibacillus are the most dominant degraders with a strong amino acid metabolism, and they secrete a diverse array of proteases as revealed in metaproteomics data. The addition of maize straw to the chicken manure compost accelerated species succession at the initial stage, and stimulated carbohydrate metabolism in the dominant microbiota. Besides, under the resulting high temperature (>70°C) conditions, the relative abundance of Proteobacteria was reduced by 78% in composts containing maize straw by day 4, which was faster than in compost without added maize straw, in which the abundance was reduced by 66%. Adding maize straw to chicken manure composts can therefore increase the fermentation temperature and inhibit the growth of Proteobacteria. In general, these findings provide increased insight into the dynamic changes among the dominant functional microbiota in chicken manure composts, and may contribute to the optimization of livestock manure composting on an industrial scale.

Abstract:Composting was an effective technique to treat kitchen waste into high-quality fertilizer or soil amendment. During the composting process of kitchen waste, different degradation rates of carbon and nitrogen resulted in carbon loss, nitrogen emission and low product quality. Consequently, the aim of this study was to investigate the mechanisms and effects of biochar (5 %, 10 % and 15 %) on synergistic conversion of nitrogen and carbon and humification processes in kitchen waste composting. The findings revealed that the addition of 10 % and 15 % biochar prolonged the thermophilic phase (>55°C) by a minimum of three days compared to CK. Additionally, the final NH 4 + -N concentration in the 10 % and 15 % treatment groups exhibited a 66.7 % reduction in comparison to the control. Besides, the 15 % addition proved more efficacious in reducing the NH 4 + -N content The increase in biochar facilitates the adsorption of ammonia nitrogen and influences the structure of the microbial community, especially Bacteroides and Pseudoxanthomonas , thus promoting nitrogen mineralisation and humification, which provides energy and carbon for the survival and metabolism of more microorganisms. The compost with 15 % biochar exhibited higher levels of SBR1031 , resulting in a 73.8 % increase in the conversion of nitrogen to NO 3 - -N compared to the control. The aforementioned behaviour facilitates a synergistic conversion of nitrogen and carbon. Therefore, the addition of biochar promotes synergistic carbon and nitrogen transformations in terms of nitrogen conservation, organic matter decomposition, microbial species and their interactions, which is essential for the production of value-added compost fertilizers.

Abstract:Biochar has demonstrated the potential in mitigating N2O emissions during composting. However, little is known about how microbial communities on biochar particles interact with N2O emissions. This study selected three types of biochar (corn stalk biochar (CSB), rape straw biochar (RSB), and bamboo charcoal (BC)) to investigate the relationship between N2O emissions and denitrifying bacterial communities on compost and biochar particles. The results showed that N2O emissions rate were higher in the thermophilic phase, and the average emissions rate of BC treatment were lower 40% and 26% than CSB and RSB, respectively. The nosZ-carrying denitrifying bacterial community played a key role in reducing N2O emissions, and the network indicated that Rhizobium and Paracoccus on compost particles may have played major roles in reducing N2O emissions, but only Paracoccus on biochar particles. Notably, BC enhanced the efficiency of N2O emission reduction by enhancing the abundance of these key genera.

Abstract:We propose a correction to the bounce back boundary condition for lattice Boltzmann algorithms which improves the accuracy of pressure from zero to first order and the accuracy of velocity from first to second order. Compared to interpolation based corrections, our method has the advantage of being completely local. In fact, methods using interpolation face difficulties at boundary points where not enough neighboring nodes are available. We show that a combination with our method offers a natural solution to this problem.
The contrasting effects of biochar and straw on N2O emissions in the maize season in intensively farmed soil

Abstract:This study evaluated the combined effects of biochar and straw on N2O flux and the community compositions of nitrifiers and denitrifiers in the maize season in an intensively farmed area in northern China. The experiment consisted of four treatments: (1) CK (only chemical fertilizer application); (2) C (biochar application); (3) SR (straw application to the field); and (4) C+SR (the application of both biochar and straw). The results indicated that during the maize growing season, N2O flux decreased by 30.3% in the C treatment and increased by 13.2% and 37.0% in the SR and C+SR treatments compared with CK, respectively. NO3−-N, NH4+-N, and microbial biomass carbon (MBC) were the main soil factors affecting N2O flux, and they were positively correlated with NO3−-N and negatively correlated with MBC in the C treatment and positively correlated with NH4+-N in the SR and C+SR treatments. Both biochar addition and straw return shifted the community compositions of nitrifiers and denitrifiers. N2O production was mainly reduced by promoting the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) gene abundance and inhibiting the nirK gene abundance in the C treatment but promoted by inhibiting the AOB and nosZ gene abundances in the SR and C+SR treatments. Nitrosospira (AOB) and Rhizobium (nirK) were the main contributors among the treatments. NO3−-N, NH4+-N, and MBC were the main soil factors affecting the denitrifier communities. The predominant species associated with the nirK, nirS, and nosZ genes were positively correlated with NO3−-N and MBC and negatively correlated with NH4+-N. These results provide valuable information on the mechanism of N2O production and reduction in biochar- and straw-amended soil under field conditions.

Abstract:Nitrogen loss is the main problem in compost and controlling it is the key to the recovery and utilization of composted materials. This study systematically investigated the effect of nitrogen retaining microbial agent (NRMA) on nitrogen retention and the promotion of decay during manure composting and tested its effect on nitrogen conversion and bacterial community structure. During composting, various parameters were dynamically evaluated, including nitrogen loss and transformation, compost maturity and nutrient, microorganism population and bacteria community variation. Results showed that the inoculation of NRMA significantly reduced ammonia loss by 58.8% with 15 days shorter compost cycle. At the end of the composting, the total nitrogen (TN) and nitrate content of the experimental group were 23.3 g kg−1 and 4.5 g kg−1, 22.6% (p < 0.05) and 9.6% (p < 0.05) higher than those of the control group (19 g kg−1 and 4.1 g kg−1), respectively. In contrast, the ammonia emission and ammonium nitrogen in the experimental group (4.9 g and 1.4 g kg−1) were significant lower than those (11.9 g and 1.8 g kg−1) in the control group (p < 0.05). Nitrogen-transforming bacteria such as Paucisalibacillus, Sporosarcina, Sphingobacterium, and Oceanobacillus displayed obvious advantages at high temperatures, while Longispora and Luteivirga demonstrated clear benefits at the end of the compost. The mechanism of nitrogen loss reduction was proposed, which was regulated by the specific microorganisms in the compost, especially the strains from the NRMA. The strategy of addition NRMA shows great potential for industrial applications of manure compost, which could provide a novel alternative for the recovery of nitrogen resources from animal husbandry.

Abstract:Straw had huge annual production, burning it in the air will cause serious air pollution. Burning straw into biochar and returning biochar to the field will not only make effective use of straw resources, but also improve soil quality. Different preparation conditions and addition levels of biochar were used to investigate the ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and total nitrogen contents in the soil leaching solution. The results showed that biochar had a favorable adsorption effect on ammonia nitrogen, the cumulative leaching of ammonia nitrogen reduced by 80.16% in the 2% and 400°C biochar addition treatment compared to that without adding biochar. The final leaching solution electrical conductivity value of the experimental group of biochar prepared at 500°C with 1% addition was the highest at 445 μS/cm. Sequencing of microorganisms revealed that biochar altered the structure and abundance of the soil microbial community, particularly increased the relative abundance of nitrifying bacteria.

Abstract:Introduction: Humus can be formed during composting through biological pathways, nonetheless, the mechanisms through which bacterial and fungal communities govern the development of humus in compost with the addition of biochar remain uncertain. Methods: In this study, compost with cow dung and maize stover as feedstock was employed as a control group, and compost with 10% biochar added on top of the feedstock was adopted as a treatment group to investigate the effect of bacterial and fungal communities on humus formation during biochar composting. Results and discussion: The results demonstrated that the humic acid content increased by 24.82 and 25.10% at the cooling and maturation stages, respectively, after adding biochar. Besides, the degree of polymerization content in the maturation stage was elevated by 90.98%, which accelerated the humification process of the compost. During the thermophilic and maturity stages, there was a respective increase of 51.34 and 31.40% in reducing sugar content, suggesting that the inclusion of biochar could furnish ample reducing sugar substrate for the Maillard reaction. The addition of biochar reduced the number of humus precursor-associated genera by 35, increased the number of genera involved in humus synthesis by two, and enhanced the stability of the cross-domain network between bacteria and fungi, which confirms that microorganisms contribute to the humification process by decreasing humus precursor consumption as well as increasing humus synthesis with the addition of biochar. Additionally, adding biochar could enhance the humification capacity of the compost pile by dominating the Maillard reaction with reducing sugars as the substrate and strengthening the function of humus synthesis-associated genera. This study enhances our comprehension of the regulatory pathways of biochar in the humification process during composting.

Abstract:This study examined the effects of biochar, biogas residue, and their combined amendments on CO 2 and CH 4 emission, enzyme activity, and related functional genes during rice straw composting. Results showed that the biogas residue increased CO 2 and CH 4 emissions by 13.07 % and 74.65 %, while biochar had more obvious inhibition. Biogas residue addition enhanced functional gene abundance more than biochar. Biogas residue raised the methanogens mcrA gene by 2.5 times. Biochar improved the Acetyl-CoA synthase and β-glucosidase activities related to carbon fixation and decreased coenzyme activities related to methanogens. Biochar and biogas residue combined amendments enhanced the acsB gene abundance for CO 2 assimilation process and decreased methyl-coenzyme M reductase α subunit activity. Pearson correlation analysis indicated that organic matter was the significant variable affecting CO 2 and CH 4 emissions ( P < 0.01). Effects of straw biochar on microbial-derived carbon: A global meta-analysis

Abstract:Pyrolyzing biomass (e.g., crop straw) to produce biochar is a sustainable strategy in agricultural farmlands. Straw-derived biochar could increase soil organic carbon (SOC) and microbial-derived carbon (C) compared to no addition, while it is imperative to understand the effects of straw-derived biochar compared to its feedstock (e.g., straw). We retrieved 321 and 387 observations to investigate the effects of straw-derived biochar on microbial-derived C (e.g., microbial biomass C (MBC) and microbial necromass C (MNC)) taking no addition and straw as control, respectively. Notably, straw-derived biochar significantly increased dissolved organic C (DOC) by 24.9% and provided available substrates for microbial utilization, thus improving MBC by 16.7% and MNC by 19.7% compared to no addition. Nevertheless, compared to its feedstock (crop straw), straw-derived biochar significantly decreased MBC by 26.1% and MNC by 18.0% attributed to lower DOC, supported by a positive correlation between MBC and DOC (R2 = 0.53). A negative correlation between changes in MBC and SOC indicated the adverse of microbial activity for C accrual under conversion from straw to biochar. Moreover, soil layer, experiment duration, and initial C/N ratio are the crucial factors affecting MBC under the conversion from straw to biochar. Specifically, with significant variations among subgroups, when compared to straw addition, straw-derived biochar had lower reduction in MBC observed on 0-5 cm layers, mean annual precipitation ≥550 mm, mean annual temperature ≥10 °C, clay loam soil, experiment duration≥1 yr, initial SOC≥14 g kg-1, pH≥8, and bulk density ≥1.28 g cm-3. Straw-derived biochar even increased MBC by 32.8% in an anaerobic environment, associated with biochar produced under limited oxygen and anaerobic microorganisms dominating the microbial community. This study concludes that the conversion from crop straw to biochar increases SOC but constrains microbial-derived C, which may disturb the microbial-mediated C-cycling process.

Abstract:Soil nitrogen (N) transformation is vital in determining farmland N availability. Although many studies have investigated the effect of biochar on N retention and loss via leaching and gaseous emission, few have determined the dynamics of gross N transformation during crop growth in long‐term biochar‐amended soils and compared the effect of the biochar with that of its feedstock. In this study, we conducted a five‐time field measurement of soil gross N turnover rates via 15N isotope pool dilution during maize growth in 2021. Three treatments were employed, including no amendment (CK), biochar (BC) and straw (ST) applied annually at rates of 2.63 and 7.50 t ha−1, respectively, since 2013. The results showed that biochar did not change the rate of gross N mineralization when compared with CK, but straw increased it by 139% in August, resulting in significantly higher cumulative gross N mineralization than BC and CK (701 vs 489 and 499 mg kg−1 in 200 d). The inconsistent influence was attributed to the fact that inherent biochar‐N was recalcitrant that cannot be mineralized like the straw. The gross nitrification rate was decreased by 72.9% and 77.4% by biochar and straw application in June relative to CK, but then it was increased from July to August in ST as a result of the elevated gross N mineralization rate. The decreased nitrification in BC was an outcome of the synergetic effect of low ammonium pool (−59.4%) and high gross ammonium immobilization rate (+263%), which was likely due to excessive fertilizer N loss and abiotic adsorption to biochar. Meanwhile, biochar amendment inhibited bacterial 16S and fungal ITS genes, as well as ureC and bacterial and archaea‐amoA gene copies. Abstract:Rice straw biochar (RSB) and mushroom biochar (MB) were added to lab-scale chicken manure composting to evaluate their effects on the behaviors of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and on total and bio-available heavy metals (Cu, Zn and As). The associated bacterial community was characterized by 16SrRNA high-throughput sequencing. The abundance of pathogenic bacteria was also calculated. At the end of the control composting experiment, the average removal rate of ARGs was 0.86 log units and the removal rate of pathogenic bacteria was 57.1%. MB addition resulted in a higher removal rate than that in the control composting experiment. However, RSB addition yielded opposite results, which may be due to the higher abundance of Erysipelotrichaceae, Lactobacillaceae, Family_XI_Incertae_Sedis (belonging to Firmicutes carrying and disseminating ARGs) and pathogenic bacteria carrying ARGs. Furthermore, the correlations between bio-available heavy metals and ARGs were more obvious than those between total heavy metals and ARGs.

Abstract:Denitrification is an essential cause of nitrogen loss during composting. Therefore, to reveal the effect of bamboo biochar addition on nitrous oxide (N 2 O) emission and nitrogen fixation, this study analyzed changes in nitrogen transformation, nitrogen function genes and microbial communities by metagenomics technology, and explored their relationship with N 2 O emission. The results demonstrated that compared with the control group (C), the N 2 O emission of the experimental group (B) was significantly reduced, and the contents of nitrate nitrogen (NO 3 − -N) and total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) were increased by 15.4% and 0.11%, respectively. Metagenomics analysis revealed that the abundances of napA and norB genes decreased by 26.9% and 22.44%, respectively, while nitrogen-fixing genes ( nifK , nifD and nifH ) increased by 46.9%, 60%, and 11.5%, respectively, during the thermophilic period. Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that the emission of N 2 O is proportional to the content of NO 3 − -N and ammonium nitrogen (NH 4 + -N). Denitrification genes were proportional to Proteobacteria , while nitrogen fixation genes were positively correlated with Firmicutes . Furthermore, at the end of composting, the abundance of Luteimonas in denitrifying microbes in group B decreased by 7.45%, while the abundance of Frankia in nitrogen-fixing microbes increased by 27.52%. Therefore, the addition of biochar can enhance microbial nitrogen sequestration, thereby reducing nitrogen loss.
