Abstract:Objectives To assess the costs and efforts of maintenance therapy following implant treatment with fixed restoration over an observation period of 10 years. Material and Methods This randomized controlled clinical trial included 64 patients who were randomly assigned to receive one of two implant systems (AST or STM) and fixed restoration. Patients were included in a regular maintenance program and were examined at loading, 1, 3, 5, 8, and 10 years. Outcome measures included technical and biological complications, time, efforts, and costs to resolve them. Results A total of 97 implants were placed in 64 patients (AST: 54, STM: 43). Patient recall rates at 5 and 10 years were 89% and 67%. In general, technical complications were resolved within one to two appointments (mean = 1.5), and biological complications required a mean of 1.3 appointments. The overall regular maintenance time for the period of 10 years amounted to 77 min per year. Technical complications occurred in 39.5% of the patients, with screw‐loosening being the most common one (43.4% of all complications). The most time‐consuming technical complication was abutment fracture (94 min ± 68), followed by screw fracture (84 min ± 38). The prevalence of peri‐implant mucositis on the patient level was 30.2%, and it was 9.3% for peri‐implantitis. The average annual maintenance costs amounted to 9% of the initial cost of the implant treatment over the period of 10 years. Conclusions Additional regular maintenance costs and costs due to the treatment of potential complications have to be taken into consideration when placing dental implants. The majority of technical complications could be resolved within one appointment, whereas the time needed to treat biological complications varied between one and three appointments for peri‐implantitis.

Abstract:Economic evaluation of nonsurgical root canal treatment (NSRCT) and single-tooth implant (STI) provides useful information for medical decision. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of NSRCT versus single-tooth implant (STI) after 5-year treatment in a university affiliated hospital in Beijing, China. 211 patients who underwent NSRCT and 142 patients who had STI were included and recalled after 5-year treatment. The propensity scores were used to match the cases of two treatment modalities. At recall, outcomes were determined based on clinical and radiographical examinations. For endodontically treated cases, absence or reduction of radiolucency were defined as success. Marginal bone loss (MBL) ≤ 4 mm were determined as success for implant cases. Direct and indirect costs were calculated in China Yuan (CNY). Patients’ willingness to pay (WTP) for each treatment modality was evaluated by questionnaires. A cost-effectiveness analysis was performed from the societal perspective. 170 patients with 120 NSRCT teeth and 96 STI were available at recall. Comparative analyses of time efficiency and cost in fabricating fixed implant-supported prostheses in digital, hybrid, and conventional workflows: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Statement of problem: Economic considerations affect whether new technologies are adopted in dental practice. Limited evidence exists regarding the time and cost efficiency of different workflows for fabricating implant-supported restorations. Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to compare the time and cost involved in fabricating fixed implant-supported prostheses using digital, hybrid, and conventional methods throughout the entire prosthetic treatment by analyzing both clinical and laboratory steps. Material and methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA)-P 2015 guidelines. The methods and inclusion criteria were specified in a protocol registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) (registration number CRD42023458734). The databases PubMed, Cochrane, and PROSPERO were searched using keywords: (Prosthodontic OR restorative dentistry OR denture) AND (CAD CAM OR Digital workflow OR Computer Dentistry OR Digital Design) AND (Economic OR cost OR Financial OR time efficiency). Two investigators selected articles independently. Results: A qualitative synthesis of 12 articles published from 2010 to 2023 showed that digital scans took less time than conventional impressions (P<.05) in 7 out of 9 articles. Additionally, 8 articles revealed significant reductions in laboratory working time with digital workflows, intermediate times with hybrid workflows, and longer times with conventional workflows (P<.001). Meta-analysis confirmed the time efficiency of digital scanning over conventional impressions (Hedges g=1.65, 95% CI [0.33, 2.98]) and a substantial reduction in laboratory time with digital workflows compared with other workflows (Hedges g=6.55, 95% CI [2.69; 10.42]). However, no significant difference was found in adjustment time between digital and other workflows (Hedges g=0.91, 95% CI [-0.72; 2.55]). Direct laboratory costs were observed to be higher in conventional workflows compared with hybrid or digital workflows, with hybrid workflows also showing elevated costs compared with digital workflows (P<.05). Conclusions: The digital workflow demonstrates potential benefits in reducing scan time, laboratory processing time, and direct laboratory costs for implant-supported restorations in partial edentulism. Further research is needed to validate these findings, particularly for long-span implant-supported fixed partial prostheses.

Abstract:Purpose This study aimed to comparatively analyze full‐arch mandibular reconstruction using dental implants. It focused on two distinct prosthesis configurations: completely splinted and segmentally splinted. These configurations were evaluated under two different occlusal schemes—group function and canine guidance—utilizing finite element analysis (FEA). Materials and Methods The methodology involved developing three‐dimensional finite element models from computed tomography data acquired from an edentulous patient. Six dental implants were utilized to complete the mandibular reconstruction. Prosthetic reconstruction was conducted with completely and segmentally splinted prostheses, each employing group function and canine guidance occlusal schemes. Consequently, four distinct models were analyzed. Following meshing, a 200 N load was applied at a 30‐degree angle. Subsequent evaluation encompassed stress, strain distribution, and the overall deformation of the implants, crowns, and underlying bone structure assessment. Results The group function occlusal scheme generally exhibited lower stress values than the canine guidance occlusal scheme, with three‐piece prostheses demonstrating even lower stress levels than one‐piece prostheses. Conversely, the canine guidance occlusal scheme exhibited higher stress values overall. Conclusion The findings of this study may assist clinicians in selecting the most effective occlusal scheme and prosthetic configuration for implant‐supported mandibular restorations, potentially enhancing treatment outcomes and reducing the risk of mechanical complications. In summary, results indicated that group function loading, irrespective of prosthesis type, offers more uniform load distribution and lower stress values, making it a preferable choice over canine guidance. Within the group function occlusal scheme, three‐piece prostheses demonstrated lower stress values than one‐piece prostheses, but the clinical significance of this difference appears to be minimal.

Abstract:Background For edentulism, an implant supported removable complete overdenture (IOD) is an attractive solution to restore patients' chewing capacity, aesthetics, and self‐esteem, however, treatment is expensive and time consuming. Purpose/Aim To estimate the decline in costs for digitally designed and CAD/CAM fabricated IODs (3D‐IODs) compared to conventionally fabricated IODs (C‐IODs) at comparable general health related quality of life (GHRQoL). Materials and MethodA randomized crossover study enrolled 36 fully edentulous patients, in whom six maxillary implants were placed together with two mandibular implants, if not already present. At the start of the study, a set of C‐IODs and 3D‐IODs was fabricated for each patient. All patients wore each IOD‐type for 1 year: first the 3D‐IOD and the second year a C‐IOD, or vice versa. At all three‐time points patients general QoL was assessed using the EQ‐5D‐5L questionnaire as well as the SF‐36 from which the SF‐6D was obtained, to research the anticipation of no significant difference. To enable cost consequence analysis (CCA), both costs made within healthcare and patient costs were assessed. Subsequently, a budget impact analysis (BIA) was performed to demonstrate the potential savings. ResultsNo differences in general GHRQoL were seen between C‐IOD (M = 0.840, SD = 0.177) and 3D‐IOD (M = 0.837, SD = 0.156) (paired t‐test (N = 31): p = 0.880). Amalgam Alternatives: Cost-Effectiveness and Value of Information Analysis

Abstract:We aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of amalgam alternatives-namely, incrementally placed composites (IComp), composites placed in bulk (BComp), and glass ionomer cements (GIC). In a sensitivity analysis, we also included composite inlays (CompI) and incrementally placed bulk-fills (IBComp). Moreover, the value of information (VOI) regarding the effectiveness of all strategies was determined. A mixed public-private-payer perspective in the context of Germany was adopted. Bayesian network meta-analyses were performed to yield effectiveness estimates (relative risk [RR] of failure). A 3-surfaced restoration on a permanent molar in initially 30-y-old patients was followed over patients' lifetime using a Markov model. Restorative and endodontic complications were modeled; our outcome parameter was the years of tooth retention. Costs were derived from insurance fee items. Monte Carlo microsimulations were used to estimate cost-effectiveness, cost-effectiveness acceptability, and VOI. Initially, BComp/GIC were less costly (110.11 euros) than IComp (146.82 euros) but also more prone to failures (RRs [95% credible intervals (CrI)] were 1.6 [0.8 to 3.4] for BComp and 1.3 [0.5 to 5.6] for GIC). When following patients over their lifetime, IComp was most effective (mean [SD], 41.9 [1] years) and least costly (2,076 [135] euros), hence dominating both BComp (40.5 [1] years; 2,284 [126] euros) and GIC (41.2 years; 2,177 [126] euros) in 90% of simulations. Eliminating the uncertainty around the effectiveness of the strategies was worth 3.99 euros per restoration, translating into annual economic savings of 87.8 million euros for payers. Including CompI and IBComp into our analyses had only a minimal impact, and our findings were robust in further sensitivity analyses. In conclusion, the initial savings by BComp/GIC compared with IComp are very likely to be compensated by the higher risk of failures and costs for retreatments. CompI and IBComp do not seem cost-effective. All alternatives are likely to be inferior to amalgam. The VOI was considerable, and future studies may yield significant economic benefits.
Clinical Success of Periorbital Craniofacial Implants: Introduction of a Staging System and Treatment Algorithm for Peri-implant Infections

Abstract:Purpose: To compare different assessment methods for peri-implant inflammation to evaluate potential risk factors and to generate a comprehensive algorithm for clinical staging, treatment, and evaluation of success in periorbital implants. Materials and Methods: In this hospital-based cross-sectional study, 111 periorbital implants in 40 patients with orbital defects after exenteration were clinically analyzed. Skin reaction according to Holgers (SRH), probing depth (PD) , and sulcus fluid flow rate (SFFR), as well as patient-specific data, such as age, sex, smoking and irradiation status, cleaning agent and frequency, defect etiology, implant system, implant location, time span since implantation, and type of retention, were assessed and statistically analyzed via mixed-model calculations. Success was defined as the absence of necessary invasive or antibiotic treatment. Results: A total of 62 implants (55.9%) had been placed in male patients and 49 implants (44.1%) in female patients. There were 18 patients (52 implants, 46.8%) who had received radiotherapy. Mean inflammation levels were low. PD and SFFR were highly correlated, whereby PD increased significantly with time after implantation. SRH ≥ 2 was correlated significantly with higher PD and SFFR values. While 80% of the implants did not require invasive or antibiotic treatment, 45% of the patients presented at least one affected implant. The data gathered allowed for the definition of a staging and treatment algorithm for peri-implantitis in periorbital implants. No patient-specific factors showed a significant impact on peri-implant inflammation. Conclusion: Periorbital implant restorations with magnetic abutments are a safe treatment option for orbital defects. PD and SRH were proven to be valuable quick assessment tools and should be complemented by SFFR, if inconclusive. The established parameters for the staging of peri-implant tissue health and clinical success can serve as a viable tool for reliable and comparable assessment in clinical and scientific settings. Further studies are necessary to assess the suggested treatment algorithm.
Early implant placement with or without alveolar ridge preservation in single tooth gaps renders similar esthetic, clinical and patient-reported outcome measures: One-year results of a randomized clinical trial

Abstract:Objectives: To test whether early implant placement with alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) results in different esthetic, clinical and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) compared with early implant placement without ARP. Material and methods: Seventy-five patients requiring single tooth extraction in the anterior maxilla were recruited. Following tooth extraction, the patients were randomly allocated to three groups: (a) ARP using demineralized bovine bone mineral containing 10% collagen (DBBM-C) covered by a collagen matrix (CM) (n = 25), (b) ARP using DBBM-C covered with a palatal graft (PG) (n = 25) and (c) spontaneous healing (control) (n = 25). Eight weeks after tooth extraction, a CBCT was taken and early implant placement was performed in all patients. Esthetic, clinical and PROMs were evaluated one year post-loading. Results: A total of 70 patients were available for re-examination at one year post-loading. The median mid-facial mucosal margin change amounted to -0.02 mm (IQR -0.27-0.46) in the CM group, -0.13 mm (IQR -0.44-0.25) in the PG group and -0.14 mm (IQR -0.29-0.07) in the control group, with no significant differences between the groups. Mean PES scores amounted to 7.0 ± 1.4 in the CM group, 7.1 ± 1.5 in the PG group and 7.3 ± 1.7 in the control group without significant differences between the groups. Plaque, bleeding on probing and probing depth did not differ between treatment groups. PROMs in general revealed no significant differences between the groups. Conclusion: Early implant placement with ARP using either a collagen matrix or a palatal graft rendered similar esthetic, clinical and PROMs to early implant placement without ARP. When a failing tooth can be replaced with an implant within 2 months after tooth extraction, the added value of ARP might be clinically negligible.

Abstract:Background Tooth‐ and implant‐supported fixed dental prostheses are well‐documented and aesthetic treatment alternatives, and after a comprehensive periodontal treatment, a protocol with a good long‐term prognosis if the maintenance program is strictly followed. Aim To reexamine a pre‐existing patient cohort in order to obtain estimated long‐term survival and complication outcomes of fixed dental prostheses. Materials and Methods For this study, patients treated with fixed dental prostheses between 1978 and 2002 were reexamined between 2019 and 2020. The restorations were divided in single crowns and fixed dental prostheses supported by teeth (TSC, FPTDP) and implants (ISC, FPIDP). Survival and complication rates were obtained. Kaplan–Meier functions were used to model complication probabilities, and average hazard ratios of different strata were compared using weighted Cox regression. Results The mean observation time of 40 patients and 223 reconstructions was 20.3 (±9.7, 1.2–36.2) years. The estimated survival rates were 84% (CI: 77%–92%) for TSC, 63% (CI: 51%–79%) for FPTDP, 87% (CI: 71%–100%) for ISC, and 64% (CI: 34%–100%) for FPIDP after 25 years. Biological complications included carious lesions (10.6%), periodontitis (7.9%), and peri‐implantitis (6.8%). Technical complications included chipping (20.2%) and loss of retention (10.8%). Conclusion Biological complications lead to abutment loss in more than two‐thirds of cases, regardless of the type of abutment (tooth or implant). Technical complications are less associated with abutment loss than biological complications.

Differences in treatment outcomes of definitive fixed implant-supported restorations with or without an interim restoration: A systematic review

Abstract:Statement of problem: Guidance to determine whether providing an interim implant-supported restoration is beneficial is lacking. Purpose: The purpose of this systematic review was to answer the following focused question: "Does the use of interim fixed implant prostheses before placement of a definitive fixed implant-supported prostheses impact esthetics, peri-implant health, and osseointegration in partially dentate adults?" Material and methods: A search of electronic databases (Medline and Embase) and the nonpeer-reviewed literature for randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and cohort studies in the English language was conducted. Results: Two studies met the eligibility criteria. Heterogeneity of the study methodologies and outcome measures did not allow for meta-analysis. Use of interim implant-supported restorations may improve the esthetic outcome. Occlusal loading of definitive implant-supported prosthesis without the use of an interim restoration may decrease chair time and the number of patient visits. Conclusions: The systematic review has found insufficient evidence to support or refute the practice of providing an interim restoration before delivering an implant-supported prosthesis.

Abstract:Background: Mechanical complications affect the stability of implant restorations and are a key concern for clinicians, especially with the frequent introduction of new implant designs featuring various structures and materials. This study evaluated the effect of different prosthetic index structure types and implant materials on the stress distribution of implant restorations using both in silico and in vitro methods. Methods: Four finite element analysis (FEA) models of implant restorations were created, incorporating two prosthetic index structures (cross-fit (CF) and torc-fit (TF)) and two implant materials (titanium and titanium-zirconium). A static load was applied to each group. An in vitro study using digital image correlation (DIC) with a research scenario identical to that of the FEA was conducted for validation. The primary strain, sensitivity index, and equivalent von Mises stress were used to evaluate the outcomes. Results: Changing the implant material from titanium to titanium-zirconium did not significantly affect the stress distribution or maximum stress value of other components, except for the implant itself. In the CF group, implants with a lower elastic modulus increased the stress on the screw. The TF group showed better stress distribution on the abutment and a lower stress value on the screw. The TF group demonstrated similar sensitivity for all components. DIC analysis revealed significant differences between TF-TiZr and CF-Ti in terms of the maximum (P < 0.001) and minimum principal strains (P < 0.05) on the implants and the minimum principal strains on the investment materials in both groups (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Changes in the implant material significantly affected the maximum stress of the implant. The TF group exhibited better structural integrity and reliability.
Biomechanical analysis of different fixed dental restorations on short implants: a finite element study

Abstract:Objectives Although the use of short implants is becoming more common for patients with atrophic alveolar ridges, their use is still quite limited. This is due to the lack of data of long-term survival compared to standard-length implants. The aim of this study was to determine the load in the bone and implant system with different superstructures. Methods Three kinds of prosthetic restorations were created on short implants based on CT-Data. Two short implants with different macro-geometries were used. The implants were inserted in idealised posterior lower mandibular segments and afterwards restored with a crown, a double splinted crown, and a bridge. Results The analysis was performed under load of 300 N either divided between a mesial and distal point or as a point load on the pontic/mesial crown. The different design of the implant systems had a noticeable influence on the stress in the cortical bone, in the implant system, and the displacement of the superstructure as well. Conclusions Compared with implants of standard length, higher stresses were observed, which can lead early failure of the implant during the healing period or a late cervical bone resorption. Precise indications are essential for short implants to avoid the failure of short implants.

Satisfaction and preferences among patients with both implant-supported single crown and tooth-supported fixed dental prosthesis: a pilot study

Abstract:Objective: The objective of the study was to assess patient-reported preferences and outcomes in patients rehabilitated with both an implant-supported single crown (ISC) and a tooth-supported fixed dental prosthesis (FDP). Materials and methods: The electronic journal system at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo, was searched to find patients presenting both an ISC and an FDP replacing no more than two teeth between abutments. Identified patients that agreed answered a questionnaire followed by a clinical examination. Descriptive statistics was calculated. Results: Thirty patients were included. The mean function time was 11.8 years for FDPs and 6.6 years for ISCs. All but three patients were satisfied with both rehabilitation modalities. No patients were unsatisfied with aesthetics or function of either rehabilitation. All patients reported satisfactory function of their restorations and reported chewing without problems. The self-reported post-operative complications were few, but less than observed in the clinical examinations. Conclusions: More patients reported food impaction with their FDP as compared to their ISC. Function and aesthetics of FDPs and ISCs were rated similarly, but more patients found the ISC treatment more uncomfortable. Despite this finding, most patients would prefer to undergo ISC treatment if they were to replace another missing tooth.
Screw- vs. Cement-retained Implant-supported Prosthesis in Partially Edentulous Patients

Abstract:Understanding the morbidity events, incidence, and cost associated with each type of retention system used for implant supported prosthesis will help the clinician in better decision making. This study assessed the clinical and cost-effectiveness of the screw- and cement-retained implant-supported single crown and fixed partial denture for the replacement of teeth in partially edentulous jaws, from a health services perspective. A systematic literature search conducted in 10 databases, complemented by 4 journal databases and International Association for Dental Research abstracts, identified 92 studies on the single crown and 40 studies on the fixed partial denture. Minor and major technical complication events, as well as failure events, were extracted from strong- and medium-quality studies. Studies based on similar designs were pooled with a random-effects Poisson regression model. A decision tree was developed to estimate the cost-effectiveness over a 15-y period posttreatment. The initial and maintenance costs to treat technical complication events were based on an American Dental Association survey of 2011 to 2012. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis was used to examine the uncertainty in the data input parameters. Clinical evidence generated from the meta-analysis suggested no statistical difference between the 2 retention systems. The cost-effectiveness is presented as an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. The evidence from this report suggests that cement retention is the more cost-effective strategy as compared with screw retention prosthesis. Knowledge Transfer Statement: Evidence generated by this study will help clinicians make an appropriate cost-effective treatment decision in choosing the retention system for partially edentulous patients.
Single crowns versus conventional fillings for the restoration of root filled teeth

Abstract:Background: Endodontic treatment, involves removal of the dental pulp and its replacement by a root canal filling. Restoration of root filled teeth can be challenging due to structural differences between vital and non-vital root filled teeth. Direct restoration involves placement of a restorative material e.g. amalgam or composite directly into the tooth. Indirect restorations consist of cast metal or ceramic (porcelain) crowns. The choice of restoration depends on the amount of remaining tooth which may influence long term survival and cost. The comparative in service clinical performance of crowns or conventional fillings used to restore root filled teeth is unclear. Objectives: To assess the effects of restoration of endodontically treated teeth (with or without post and core) by crowns versus conventional filling materials. Search methods: We searched the following databases: the Cochrane Oral Health Group's Trials Register, CENTRAL, MEDLINE via OVID, EMBASE via OVID, CINAHL via EBSCO, LILACS via BIREME and the reference lists of articles as well as ongoing trials registries.There were no restrictions regarding language or date of publication. Date of last search was 13 February 2012. Selection criteria: Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) or quasi-randomised controlled trials in participants with permanent teeth which have undergone endodontic treatment. Single full coverage crowns compared with any type of filling materials for direct restoration, as well as indirect partial restorations (e.g. inlays and onlays). Comparisons considered the type of post and core used (cast or prefabricated post), if any. Data collection and analysis: Two review authors independently assessed trial quality and extracted data. Main results: One trial judged to be at high risk of bias due to missing outcome data, was included. 117 participants with a root filled premolar tooth restored with a carbon fibre post, were randomised to either a full coverage metal-ceramic crown or direct adhesive composite restoration. At 3 years there was no reported difference between the non-catastrophic failure rates in both groups. Decementation of the post and marginal gap formation occurred in a small number of teeth. Authors' conclusions: There is insufficient evidence to support or refute the effectiveness of conventional fillings over crowns for the restoration of root filled teeth. Until more evidence becomes available clinicians should continue to base decisions on how to restore root filled teeth on their own clinical experience, whilst taking into consideration the individual circumstances and preferences of their patients.
Minimally invasive approaches for implant‐supported overdentures in the atrophied mandible

Abstract:Objectives The study compares three minimally invasive approaches for the retention of implant supported mandibular complete dentures, particularly focusing on patient satisfaction. Background The McGill Consensus Statement recommends restoration of the edentulous mandible with an overdenture retained on two implants. Alternatively, less invasive treatment concepts with shorter treatment times have been developed for critical cases. Material and Methods Thirty‐nine patients (with a total of 78 implants) with advanced mandibular bone atrophy were randomly assigned to three groups: "single standard implant‐retained overdentures" (SSO) and "mini‐implant‐retained overdentures" (MO), which was further subdivided into "two mini‐implant‐retained overdentures" (TMO) and "four mini‐implant‐retained overdentures" (FMO). The technical and biological parameters and oral health‐related quality of life were evaluated over a 10‐year period. Data were analysed for group comparisons and longitudinal trend analysis. Results Sixteen patients (42%) dropped out during the study period. At the time of follow‐up, 98.4% of the implants were in situ. The first need for technical intervention occurred after 3.8 ± 1.1, 4.2 ± 0.9, and 4.6 ± 1.3 years in the TMO, SSO, and FMO groups, respectively. Attachment exchange (39%) was the most frequently performed intervention in all groups. Healthy peri‐implant and mucosal conditions were observed in 74% and 40% of patients after 1 and 10 years, respectively. The OHIP‐G14 score was 22.6 before implantation, 7.6 at 1 year (effect size [ES]: 1.1), and 5.4 at 10 years (ES: 2.3). Conclusion Irrespective of the minimal concept selected, complete mandibular dentures retained on implants improved the subjective perception of the quality of life. Application of these alternative minimal concepts may be practical in clinical practice.

Abstract:We performed $^{31}\mathrm{P}$ NMR measurements of the temperature-dependent spin-lattice relaxation time in several mixed single crystals of ${\mathrm{Rb}}_{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathit{x}}$(${\mathrm{ND}}_{4}$${)}_{\mathit{x}}$${\mathrm{D}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [DRADP] having different ammonium concentration (x=0.22, 0.44, 0.78) as well as in three pure single crystals (${\mathrm{ND}}_{4}$)${\mathrm{D}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [DADP], (${\mathrm{NH}}_{4}$)${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [ADP], and ${\mathrm{RbH}}_{2}$${\mathrm{PO}}_{4}$ [RDP]. The $^{31}\mathrm{P}$ NMR spin-lattice relaxation-time measurements in mixed crystals show that the phosphorus nuclei are strongly influenced by the gradual slowing down of the motions of protons in the nearby O-D...O acid bonds in the structural spin-glass states. In addition to a common ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum observed in all ammonium-containing systems, a second ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum is observed in the temperature region of the glass transition in mixed spin-glass systems but not in pure ADP, DADP, or RDP. We attribute this lower temperature ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum to the extreme slowing down of the O-D...O intrabond motion, which is unique to the glass system. In addition, the correlation times and activation energies for the ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minima in all samples were determined. A comparison between the pure and mixed systems reveals that the mixed system ${\mathit{T}}_{1}$ minimum must be fit to a distribution of correlation functions but that each pure system requires only a single correlation function. Furthermore, measurements on systems having x=0.78 and 0.22 show that $^{31}\mathrm{P}$ NMR can be used to determine the threshold concentrations that characterize the glass phase.
