Abstract:A coordinated control strategy for photovoltaic systems (PVs) and controllable loads is proposed, with which the net power output of the coordinated control system can be flexibly adjusted and high-capacity characteristics of controllable loads can be used. By solving a mixed integer programming problem, the reference power output of PVs and operational conditions of controllable loads can be determined. With the quadratic interpolation based active power control strategy, each PV can track its reference power output, and the net power output power of the coordinated control system can be flexibly adjusted. Externally, the coordinated control system behaves like the conventional hybrid energy storage system, with characteristics such as the fast charging/discharging speed. In addition, it has such exclusive advantages as large capacity and low cost. The feasibility of the control strategy proposed is verified by simulation results. © 2013 State Grid Electric Power Research Institute Press.
Coordinated dispatch of electric vehicles and wind power considering time-of-use pricing

Abstract:With worldwide promotion of electric vehicles (EVs), it is possible to make flexible EV dispatch to support power grid operation, even assisting accommodation of intermittent renewable power. Under the framework of time-of-use (TOU) pricing mechanism, this paper focuses on how to determine a reasonable TOU price to influence the EV's charging habits for the purpose of load leveling. Firstly, EV load is simulated by Monte Carlo method based on EV driving behaviors. EV demand response to TOU price on an aggregator basis is then analyzed, and a bi-level mathematical models are developed to obtain an expected TOU price. The top level devotes to minimizing system load variance by scheduling EV aggregators (EVAs) with TOU price; the lower level is to minimize the charging cost of EVAs by dispatching every EV under its control. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed model and method are verified using an IEEE 30-bus simulation system.
Multi-objective Coordinated Charging Strategy for Electric Vehicles Considering Dynamic Time-of-Use Electricity Price

Abstract:Large-scale electric grid connection of electric vehicles will affect the reliable and economic operation of power grid. Meanwhile, the traditional time-of-use price is relatively fixed and not flexible. Aiming at the above problems, the paper comprehensively considers the time-of-use price, load variation and users’ willingness to charge, and proposes a multi-objective coordinated charging strategy for electric vehicles (EVs) considering dynamic time-of-use electricity price. Firstly, the EVs charging behavior characteristics are analyzed using the measured EVs charging data of a public charging station in Hunan Province, and the dynamic time-of-use price model is given. Secondly, an EV orderly charging optimization model is constructed, which is aimed at minimum peak-valley difference, minimum daily load variance, minimum user charging cost of distribution network. Then, a Genetic Simulated Annealing Particle Swarm Optimization (GSAPSO) algorithm based on adaptive inertial weight is proposed. Finally, the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed strategy are verified by simulation of typical scenarios. The simulation results show that the coordinated charging strategy solved by dynamic time-of-use price and GSAPSO algorithm can better reduce the peak-valley difference, the daily load variance, and the charging cost of users. As the responsiveness of electric vehicles participating in the coordinated charging strategy increases, the optimization effect is more obvious.

Abstract:Abstract Aiming at the problem that large-scale disorderly grid connection of electric vehicles negatively affects grid operation and causes a large amount of abandoned wind and abandoned light, an orderly grid connection cooperative scheduling control strategy based on distributed energy storage of electric vehicles is proposed. The strategy takes the charging and discharging price as the lever to guide the users to charge and discharge in an orderly manner, takes the optimal economics on the user side and the optimal cost of power generation on the grid side as the objective function, and uses linear weighting normalization to convert the multi-objective function into a single objective function for simulation solution. The simulation results show that the effect of peak shaving and valley filling can be achieved on the basis of satisfying users’ demand, and renewable energy can be effectively consumed.

Abstract:Considering the booming development of electric vehicle (EV), this article presents a novel control scheme analyzing EV multiple-mode application in a number of distributed photovoltaic (PV) systems, which rationalizes the energy flow among the energy system participants containing a power grid, a grid-connected PV system, power consumption devices, storage batteries, and EV. Based on the control scheme, the authors propose two day-ahead optimal control strategies with different objective functions: one is minimizing the daily electricity expense of an individual distributed PV system and the other is minimizing the daily total expense of distributed PV systems which EV can be connected to. The model has been verified by the actual data and forecast data, respectively. The results show under the individual objective, in the distributed PV system with EV, the electricity expense can obtain an annual reduction of 27.18%. Furthermore, in the distributed PV system with a storage battery as well as EV, the electricity expense can obtain an annual reduction from 30.67% to 81.49% with a storage battery capacity changing from 1 kWh to 20 kWh. Under the total objective, the total expense and even the individual expense have different degrees of reduction. However, the specific benefits should be rerationally distributed by balancing the interests of all the distributed PV systems. In addition, besides the application in the distributed PV systems, this model may have some potential on the development of a regional energy system.

Abstract:Electric vehicles (EVs) can be considered as flexible mobile battery storages in microgrids. For multiple microgrids in an area, coordinated scheduling on charging and discharging are required to avoid power exchange spikes between the multimicrogrid system and the main grid. In this paper, a two-stage integrated energy exchange scheduling strategy for multimicrogrid system is presented, which considers EVs as storage devices. Then, several dual variables, which are representative of the marginal cost of proper constraints, are utilized to form an updated price, thereby being a modification on the original electricity price. With this updated price signal, a price-based decentralized scheduling strategy is presented for the microgrid central controller. Simulation results show that the two-stage scheduling strategy reduces the electricity cost and avoids frequent transitions between battery charging/discharging states. With the proposed decentralized scheduling strategy, each microgrid only needs to solve its local problem and limits the total power exchange within the safe range.

Abstract:Build a coordinated operation model of source‐grid, load, and storage that takes into account the mobile energy storage characteristics of electric vehicles (EVs), to improve the economy and low carbon of system operation, to reduce the network loss of distribution network operation, and to strengthen the connection between source‐grid, load, and storage resources; Propose a deep peaking mechanism considering clean emissions, improve the operational flexibility of thermal power units, increase the consumption rate of new energy, and reduce unit operating costs; Propose an orderly charging and discharging peaking compensation mechanism that takes into account the cost of electric vehicle discharging losses to enhance the willingness of electric vehicle users to participate in discharging, reduce the cost of charging and discharging for vehicle owners, and assist thermal power units in peaking. The rapid growth in the number of electric vehicles (EVs), driven by the 'double‐carbon' target, and the impact of uncontrolled charging and discharging behaviour and discharged battery losses severely limit electric vehicles' low carbon characteristics. Existing research on systemic low‐carbon emissions and electric vehicle charging and discharging issues is usually determined by considering only carbon trading markets or charging and discharging management on the source side. In this regard, a coordinated and optimized operation model that considers the participation of electric vehicle clusters in deep peaking and the source network load and storage adjustable resources is proposed. The upper layer establishes a real‐time price‐based demand response mechanism for the load side with the minimum net load fluctuation as the objective function; the middle layer establishes a comprehensive operation mechanism for the source and storage side that includes an orderly charging and discharging peaking compensation mechanism for electric vehicles, and a deep peaking mechanism that takes into account clean emission, and constructs an optimal operation model with the minimum comprehensive operating cost as the objective function; the lower layer establishes a distribution network loss minimization model for the network side that takes into account the orderly charging and discharging of electric vehicle as the objective function. The optimal load model with the objective function of minimizing the distribution network loss is established at the lower level. Finally, the original problem is transformed into a mixed integer linear programming problem, and the model's effectiveness is verified by setting different scenarios. The model reduces the total cost by 22.22%, improves the wind power consumption rate by 19.55%, reduces the actual carbon emission by 16.66%, and reduces the distribution network loss by 13.91% compared to the basic model.

Abstract:Current studies have shown that the rapid increasing of electric vehicles (EVs) may bring in great impact to the power grid, especially to the directly-connected EV charging station. Considering the cost sensitivity of EV owner and the controllability of the charging process, the pricing and charging power management may be the most effectiveness adjusting mechanisms to reduce the negative impact to the EV charging station. Therefore, we consider the combined scheduling of pricing and power management for EVs in the charging station. First, due to the uncertain EV arrivals, charging requirements and distributed renewable power generation, this problem is represented as a Markov decision process. Second, a bilevel optimization framework is designed for the formulated stochastic programming model. The outer optimization is solved by rollout method while the inner optimization is represented as a mixed-integer programming and solved by typical commercial tools. At last, the operation enhancement and operation benefit improvement of this method are demonstrated by comparing the turnover and the detailed power management of different policies.

Abstract:As the global warming crisis becomes increasingly serious, sustainable dispatch strategies that can reduce CO2 emissions are gradually developed. Aiming at the problems of poor synergy between carbon capture systems (CCS) and P2G as well as the potential of the source-load interaction of microgrids with electric vehicles for carbon reduction that needs to be explored, this paper proposes a source-load coordinated low-carbon economic dispatch strategy for microgrids, including electric vehicles. Firstly, considering the low-carbon operation characteristics of CCS and P2G, a comprehensively flexible and cooperative operation mode for CCS and P2G is constructed. Secondly, based on the carbon reduction potential of demand response on the energy consumption side, a demand response optimal scheduling model considering the participation of electric vehicles in the microgrid is established. Finally, based on the complementary characteristics of low-carbon resources on both sides of the microgrid, a source-load coordinated low-carbon economic dispatch strategy for the microgrid is proposed. The results show that the strategy proposed in this paper can fully use the energy time-shift advantage of CCS and P2G and can combine EVs and other load-side resources to flexibly participate in demand-side response, which effectively realizes source-load synergy and improves the low carbon and economy of the microgrid.

Abstract:The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) promises a reduction of carbon emissions and a crucial step towards a cleaner environment. While more EVs are expected to replace internal combustion engine vehicles to operate on the road worldwide, their adoption is inhibited by factors such as high power demand. Unregulated or poorly regulated charging of EVs can cause grid instability, especially in grids that were not initially designed to handle the charging of EVs. This calls for leveraging the available grid resources to control the charging of EVs in a manner that ensures optimal grid operation. This work proposes a distribution network-level dynamic pricing strategy for charging EVs to optimally utilize the distribution network and balance the load between residential and commercial/industrial distribution networks. Different EV charging probabilities that cause the EV load to differ from the optimal state with a mean average percentage error (MAPE) as high as 30% are explored. Simulation results show that with the dynamic pricing strategy as an incentive to the EVs users, EVs charging load will contribute to the optimal grid resources utilization.

Abstract:In the context of modern power systems, the reliance on a single-time-of-use electricity pricing model presents challenges in managing electric vehicle (EV) charging in a way that can effectively accommodate the variable supply and demand patterns, particularly in the presence of wind power generation. This often results in undesirable peak–valley differences in microgrid load profiles. To address this challenge, this paper introduces an innovative approach that combines time-of-use electricity pricing with the flexible energy storage capabilities of electric vehicles. By dynamically adjusting the time-of-use electricity prices and implementing a tiered carbon pricing system, this paper presents a comprehensive strategy for formulating optimized charging and discharging plans that leverage the inherent flexibility of electric vehicles. This approach aims to mitigate the fluctuations in the microgrid load and enhance the overall grid stability. The proposed strategy was simulated and compared with the no-incentive and single-incentive strategies. The results indicate that the load peak-to-trough difference was reduced by 30.1% and 18.6%, respectively, verifying its effectiveness and superiority. Additionally, the increase in user income and the reduction in carbon emissions verify the need for the development of EVs in tandem with clean energy for environmental benefits.

Abstract:A four-stage intelligent optimization and control algorithm for an electric vehicle (EV) bidirectional charging station equipped with photovoltaic generation and fixed battery energy storage and integrated with a commercial building is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm aims at maximally reducing the customer satisfaction-involved operational cost considering the potential uncertainties, while balancing the real-time supply and demand by adjusting the optimally scheduled charging/discharging of EV mobile/local battery storage, grid supply, and deferrable load. The chance-constrained optimization objective has been stated in stages: 1) stage I, optimization of day-ahead energy management schedules; 2) stage II, multitiered EV charging price update and optimization of discharging participation bonus; 3) stage III, optimization of hour-ahead energy management schedules; and 4) stage IV, real-time control. Such algorithm provides more resilience for unpredictable conditions, provides more incentives for EV users to participate, and better coordinates the integrated system including the building load to reliably serve the customers while lessening cost. Case studies are implemented and the comparison analysis is performed in terms of the use and benefit of each design feature of the algorithm. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm can reduce the operational cost and at the same time provide higher tolerability toward uncertainties.

Abstract:Abstract We propose a two‐stage energy management strategy for household microgrids to improve their operational efficiency and economic benefits by making full use of the time‐of‐use electricity price and considering the impact of temporal and spatial uncertainty of electric vehicles (EVs) and different sunshine hours on household photovoltaic (PV). The strategy combines the time‐sharing tariff period and the travel time of EVs to make full use of the dual attributes of EVs as both load and generation units. Particle swarm algorithm is used to optimize the household PV output, EV and storage system charging/discharging strategies, and the energy interaction between the microgrid and the main network. This algorithm guides the household microgrid to achieve the optimal economic operation while cutting the peaks and filling the valleys of the main network to realize the efficient allocation of power resources. Finally, three typical scenarios are used for optimization, and the results show that the proposed energy management strategy can provide savings of 1,413.02, 1,026.94 and 929.19 yuan per day under the three scenarios analyzed, respectively, which verifies the effectiveness and rationality of the model. A sensitivity analysis is also conducted.

Abstract:To coordinate resources among multi-level stakeholders and enhance the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into multi-microgrids, this study proposes an optimal dispatch strategy within a multi-microgrid cooperative alliance using a nuanced two-stage pricing mechanism. Initially, the strategy assesses electric energy interactions between microgrids and distribution networks to establish a foundation for collaborative scheduling. The two-stage pricing mechanism initiates with a leader-follower game, wherein the microgrid operator acts as the leader and users as followers. Subsequently, it adjusts EV tariffs based on the game's equilibrium, taking into account factors such as battery degradation and travel needs to optimize EVs' electricity consumption. Furthermore, a bi-level optimization model refines power interactions and pricing strategies across the network, significantly enhancing demand response capabilities and economic outcomes. Simulation results demonstrate that this strategy not only increases renewable energy consumption but also reduces energy costs, thereby improving the overall efficiency and sustainability of the system.

Abstract:Electric vehicles, known for their eco-friendliness and rechargeable–dischargeable capabilities, can serve as energy storage batteries to support the operation of the microgrid in certain scenarios. Therefore, photovoltaic-storage electric vehicle charging stations have emerged as an important solution to address the challenges posed by energy interconnection networks. However, electric vehicle charging loads exhibit notable randomness, potentially altering load characteristics during certain periods and posing challenges to the stable operation of microgrids. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a hierarchical optimal dispatching strategy based on photovoltaic-storage charging stations. The strategy utilizes a dynamic electricity pricing model and the adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm to effectively manage electric vehicle charging loads. By decomposing the dispatching task into multiple layers, the strategy effectively solves the problems of the "curse of dimensionality" and slow convergence associated with large numbers of electric vehicles. Simulation results demonstrate that the strategy can effectively achieve peak shaving and valley filling, reducing the load variance of the microgrid by 24.93%, and significantly reduce electric vehicle charging costs and distribution network losses, with a reduction of 92.29% in electric vehicle charging costs and 32.28% in microgrid losses compared to unorganized charging. Additionally, this strategy can meet the travel demands of electric vehicle owners while providing convenient charging services.

Abstract:With the vigorous promotion of new energy sources and the development of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, the influence of the V2G mode should be considered in the joint optimal allocation of Distributed Generation (DG) and electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs). The timing characteristics of the intermittent output of DG, conventional demand for load, and charging load of the electric vehicle (EV) are considered, as is its participation in grid interaction to examine the construction of typical scenarios and the EV cluster dispatching strategy. From the perspective of comprehensively planning the coordination of the distribution network, a DG-EVCSs bi-level joint planning model is established under the peak and valley price mechanism, with the sub-objectives of obtaining a comprehensive profit and high quality of voltage, curbing system load fluctuations, and satisfactorily charging the EV. An improved harmony particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed to solve the bi-level model. The proposed method was tested on the IEEE-33 and the PG&E-69 (Pacific Gas and Electric Company) bus distribution systems, and the results show that the optimized configuration model that considers the V2G mode can improve the overall performance of the planning scheme, promote the use of clean energy, smoothen the load fluctuations of the system, and improve the quality of voltage and charging satisfaction of EV users.

Abstract:The safety and economics of the grid will be considerably impacted as large-scale electric vehicles and deeply random distributed renewable energy sources are connected to the grid. On the basis of considering the uncertainties of wind power, photovoltaic power output and charging and discharging of electric vehicles, and ensuring the normal operation of electric vehicles, this paper proposes a control strategy for centralized charging stations of electric vehicles taking into account the consumption of renewable energy accommodation. GA algorithm is used to calculate the 24 h charge and discharge power of the charge and discharge system and the cascade battery energy storage system. Through the analysis of the calculation examples, the load of the regulated centralized EV charging station can effectively reduce the peak and valley of the urban daily equivalent load curve connected with wind power and photovoltaic power generation. Thus, the impact on the power grid caused by the grid-connected operation of distributed energy resources is reduced, and the purpose of peak clipping and valley filling and renewable energy accommodation is realized. In addition, the advantages of GA algorithm in overall optimization performance are also verified.

Abstract:In a microgrid with renewable generation and electric vehicles(EVs),by optimizing its operation,the negative impacts of the power output fluctuation of distributed generation on the power system concerned can be mitigated,Which is deemed an effective solution for integrating distributed generation to the power system.Battery swapping represents a mainstream development mode of EVs,especially in large cities,since this more could efficiently reduce the waiting time for charging batteries and hence motivate the wide employment of EVs.Acting as an energy storage device to participate in the optimalization operation of the microgrid,the battery swapping station enhances the ability of accommodating distributed renewable generation as well as achieve economical benefits.Given this background,some research work is carried out:(1) a dispatching stategy for battery swapping stations is proposed,and battery grouping rules and group priority defined;(2) charging / discharging states of batteries are analyzed,and considering the constraints such as consumers' battery demands and battery charging states,the charging demand of the battery swapping station as well as its maximum charging / discharging power obtained;(3) the dispatching flowchart for the battery swapping station is developed with the objective of responding to the dispatching signals from the microgrid to the greatest extent.Finally,a sample microgrid containing distributed renewable generation,a battery swapping station and residential loads is employed to demonstrate the developed model and method.

Abstract:With the shortage of fossil fuels and the increasingly serious problem of environmental pollution, low-carbon industrial production technology has become an effective way to reduce industrial carbon emissions. Electrified steel plants based on electronic arc furnaces (EAF) can reduce most carbon emissions compared with traditional steel production methods, but the production steps have fixed electricity consumption behavior, and impact loads are easily generated in the production process, which has an impact on the stability of the power system. EV has the characteristics of a mobile energy storage unit. When a large number of EVs are connected to the power grid, they can be regarded as distributed energy storage units with scheduling flexibility. Through the orderly scheduling of EVs, the spatial–temporal transfer of EV charging and discharging load can be realized. Therefore, the EV situated in the steel plant's distribution network node has the capacity to be utilized by providing peak shaving and valley filling services for the steel production load. This study proposes an operation optimization scheduling method for EVs and steel plants. Taking the lowest overall operating cost as the objective, an optimal scheduling model considering EVs operation, steel plant, and distributed generator is established. Based on the IEEE-33 node distribution network model considering distributed generators, the proposed model is simulated and analyzed, and the effectiveness of the EV steel plant operation optimization scheduling strategy is investigated.
