Abstract:STATEMENT OF PROBLEM:Recent systematic reviews have reported resorption of bone grafts after augmentation, but the influencing factors are numerous and uncertain. Different brands of bone graft and other factors may affect the bone formation effect after sinus floor augmentation.PURPOSE:The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to evaluate the graft material height changes after sinus floor augmentation with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to investigate the potential influencing factors related to graft resorption.MATERIAL AND METHODS:Four midsagittal cut CBCT images of 157 posterior maxillary implants after maxillary sinus floor elevation by using the lateral window approach with bone grafts from 116 patients were obtained. Four CBCT scans had been performed immediately (T0), 6 months (T1) and 12 months after bone grafting (T2), and 1.5 to 2 years after treatment (T3), and the distance between the implant platform and the grafted mucosa of the maxillary sinus floor was measured at 3 locations. Correlation coefficients of these parameters were calculated. A linear mixed model was used to investigate potential factors influencing graft height reduction, including the patient's sex, age, smoking status, periodontal status, graft brand, implant site, implant level, placement time, and residual bone height.RESULTS:Mean ±standard deviation graft height at the mesial side of the implant (MeGH) was significantly decreased by 0.32 ±0.88 mm in the first 6 months, was gradually reduced after 6 months (0.26 ±0.43 mm), and then 1 to 2 years later increased to 0.39 ±0.97 mm. The changes in graft height at the center of the implant (CeGH) and graft height at the distal side (DiGH) groups were similar to those in the MeGH group. A significantly positive correlation was found among the height alterations in 3 locations (rs=0.954, P<.001). The linear mixed model showed that smoking was more likely to cause graft height reduction in MeGH (P=.034).CONCLUSIONS:Graft height significantly decreased after maxillary sinus augmentation over 1 to 2 years. Smoking had a negative effect on graft height changes, while the 2 brands of graft and other factors had no significant effect.

Abstract:Objectives To quantify the neighboring and antagonist teeth migration of a single posterior tooth-missing site within 3 months using digital scanning and measuring techniques. Materials and Methods Intraoral scans (IOS) were made in 40 patients presenting a single posterior tooth-missing gap and receiving implant therapy. IOS were obtained at the day of and three months after implant surgery rendering a digital baseline model (BM) and a digital follow-up model (FM). Digital models were superimposed using the implant scan body as reference. Antagonist models were processed by the best fit alignment. Dimensional change between anatomical landmarks on neighboring teeth and that of featuring points on antagonistic teeth were measured using a three-dimensional analysis software. The Mann-Whitney U test was applied to compare the tooth-moving distance between the mesial and distal neighboring teeth. The Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA was used to test the difference in dimensional change in tooth-missing site among age subgroups. Results The mean dimensional change in the tooth-missing site was -37.62 +/- 106.36 mu m (median: -28.33 mu m, Q(25) -72.65/Q(75) 38.97) mesial-distally and -67.91 +/- 42.37 mu m (median: -61.50 mu m, Q(25) -88.25/Q(75) -36.75) occlusal-gingivally. Eighteen out of 40 mesial neighboring teeth and 24 out of 40 distal neighboring teeth showed migration towards the implants. When patients were grouped according to age, the mesial-distal reduction in the tooth-missing site was significantly larger in patients younger than 30 years compared with those older than 50 years (p < .05). Conclusions The dimensions of posterior tooth-missing sites decreased over an observation period of 3 months.

Abstract:Maxillary sinus augmentation is an effective procedure to gain bone height for implant placement in an atrophic posterior maxilla. But maxillary sinus diseases are prevalent in patients scheduled for sinus lift procedures. The presence of these diseases may increase the difficulties in performing the surgery and the risk of developing postoperative complications. This paper summarizes and introduces the common maxillary sinus mucosa diseases related to maxillary sinus augmentation.
Occlusal Migration of Teeth Adjacent to Implant Prostheses in Adults: A Long-Term Study.

Abstract:PURPOSE:To evaluate the effect of continuous tooth eruption on the outcomes of single-implant-supported restorations in the anterior maxilla of adults.MATERIALS AND METHODS:Seventy-six patients (age: 21 to 78 years) treated with single-implant-supported restorations in the esthetic zone were included. Radiographs obtained at crown placement and follow-up examinations from 1 to 15 years postloading were analyzed with regard to vertical incisal plane changes of the implant-supported crown relative to adjacent teeth.RESULTS:Infraocclusion increased over time by 0.08 ± 0.02 mm/year. Infraocclusion was more pronounced (P = .04) for delayed (0.09 mm/year) versus immediate implant placement (0.06 mm/year) and for younger versus older adults (0.0013 mm/year per additional year of age; P = .014). No statistically significant association between infraocclusion and sex, ethnicity, implant site, timing of implant temporization, surgical protocol, and type of restoration was found.CONCLUSION:Infraocclusion of single-implant-supported maxillary anterior restorations may result in esthetic concerns over time. Greater infraocclusion occurs in delayed implant placement and in younger individuals.
Characteristics of Spatial Changes in Molars and Alveolar Bone Resorption among Patients with Loss of Mandibular First Molars: A CBCT-Based Morphometric Study

Abstract:Objectives: To investigate the characteristics of spatial changes in molars and alveolar bone resorption among patients with loss of mandibular first molars. Methods: A total of 42 CBCT scans of patients with missing mandibular first molars (3 males, 33 females) and 42 CBCT scans of control subjects without loss of mandibular first molars (9 males, 27 females) were evaluated in this cross-sectional study. All images were standardized using the mandibular posterior tooth plane with Invivo software. The following indices regarding alveolar bone morphology were measured, including alveolar bone height, bone width, mesiodistal and buccolingual angulation of molars, overeruption of maxillary first molars, bone defects, and the capability of molar mesialization. Results: The vertical alveolar bone height in the missing group was reduced by 1.42 ± 0.70 mm, 1.31 ± 0.68, and 1.46 ± 0.85 mm on the buccal, middle, and lingual side, respectively (no differences among the three sides; p > 0.05). Alveolar bone width was reduced the greatest at the buccal CEJ level and the least at the lingual apex level. Mandibular second molar mesial tipping (with mean of the mesiodistal angulation = 57.47 ± 10.34°) and lingual tipping (with mean of the buccolingual angulation = 71.75 ± 8.34°) were observed. The mesial and distal cusps of maxillary first molars were extruded by 1.37 mm and 0.85 mm, respectively. Buccal and lingual defects of alveolar bone occurred at the CEJ, mid-root, and apex levels. Through 3D simulation, the second molar cannot be successfully mesialized into the missing tooth position, and the difference between the available and required distances for mesialization was the greatest at the CEJ level. The duration of tooth loss was significantly correlated with the mesio-distal angulation (R = −0.726, p < 0.001), buccal-lingual angulation (R = −0.528, p < 0.001) and the extrusion of the maxillary first molar (R = −0.334, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Both vertical and horizontal resorption of alveolar bone occurred. Mandibular second molars exhibit mesial and lingual tipping. Lingual root torque and uprighting of the second molars are needed for the success of molar protraction. Bone augmentation is indicated for severely resorbed alveolar bone.

Abstract:We assessed the three-dimensional (3D) pattern of the physiologic drift of the remaining adjacent teeth after premolar extraction due to orthodontic reasons and the associated factors. Data were collected from 45 patients aged 17.04 ± 5.14 years who were scheduled to receive a fixed appliance after maxillary premolar extraction. Seventy-five drift models were obtained and digitalized via 3D scanning. The average physiologic drift duration was 81.66 ± 70.03 days. Angular and linear changes in the first molars, second premolars, and canines were measured using the 3D method. All the examined teeth had tipped and moved towards the extraction space, leading to space decreases. Posterior teeth primarily exhibited significant mesial tipping and displacement, without rotation or vertical changes. All canine variables changed, including distal inward rotation and extrusion. The physiologic drift tended to slow over time. Age had a limited negative effect on the mesial drift of posterior teeth, whereas crowding had a limited positive effect on canine drift. Thus, the mesial drift of molars after premolar extraction may lead to molar anchorage loss, particularly among younger patients. The pattern of the physiologic drift of maxillary canines can help relieve crowding and facilitate labially ectopic canine alignment, whereas canine drift is accelerated by more severe crowding.
Characteristics and impacts of dental implant displacement into the maxillary sinus

Abstract:Background/purpose Dental implants displaced into the maxillary sinus are considered to require surgical removal as the treatment of choice. However, displaced implants have been reported to affect the maxillary sinus in different ways. This study aimed to evaluate characteristics and impacts of dental implant displacement into the maxillary sinus. Materials and methods Fourteen sinuses with displaced implants into the maxillary sinus were included. Demographic data and radiographic images were analyzed, with a focus on the impact of various factors such as demographic data, timing of displacement, duration of retention, and residual bone height on maxillary sinus opacification and sinus wall thickness. Results Implants were displaced during or in the early stage after implant placement in 9 cases and after functional loading in 5 cases. Radiographic evaluations showed higher sinus opacification score ( P = 0.019) and increased wall thickness ( P = 0.198) in cases with displacement after functional loading, although the difference in wall thickness was not statistically significant. When the duration of implant retention in the sinus was longer, higher sinus opacification and sinus wall thickness were observed, although the differences were not statistically significant. Univariate regression analysis demonstrated that the timing of displacement significantly influenced maxillary sinus opacification ( P = 0.013) and sinus wall thickness ( P = 0.013). For all cases, evidence of site preparation and the use of short implants were not observed. Conclusion This study suggests that adequate pre-implant site preparation and timely intervention are essential to prevent and manage implant displacement into the maxillary sinus.

Factors influencing the sinus membrane thickness in edentulous regions: a cone-beam computed tomography study

Abstract:Background: During implant treatment in the maxillary molar area, maxillary sinus floor augmentation is often performed to ameliorate the reduced alveolar bone height attributable to bone remodeling and pneumatization-induced expansion of the maxillary sinus. However, this augmentation may cause complications such as misplaced implants, artery damage, and maxillary sinus mucosal perforation; infections like maxillary sinusitis; and postsurgical complications such as bone graft leakage and postoperative nasal hemorrhaging. To reduce the complications during maxillary sinus floor augmentation and postoperative infections, we performed retrospective investigations of various systemic and local factors that influence pre-operative sinus mucosal thickness (SMT) by using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Subjects included patients who underwent maxillary sinus floor augmentation in an edentulous maxillary molar area with a lateral approach. Pre-operative SMT, existing bone mass, and nasal septum deviation were measured using CBCT images. Relationships between SMT and the following influencing factors were investigated: (1) age, (2) sex, (3) systemic disease, (4) smoking, (5) period after tooth extraction, (6) reason for tooth extraction, (7) residual alveolar bone height (RBH), (8) sinus septa, and (9) nasal septum deviation. Correlations were also investigated for age and RBH (p < 0.05). Results: We assessed 35 patients (40 sinuses; 11 male, 24 female). The average patient age was 58.90 ± 9.0 years (males, 57.9 ± 7.7 years; females, 59.9 ± 9.4 years; age range, 41-79 years). The average SMT was 1.09 ± 1.30 mm, incidence of SMT > 2 mm was 25.0%, incidence of SMT < 0.8 mm was 50.0%, and the average RBH was 2.14 ± 1.02 mm. The factors that influenced SMT included sex (p = 0.0078), period after tooth extraction (p = 0.0075), reason for tooth extraction (p = 0.020), sinus septa (p = 0.0076), and nasal septum deviation (p = 0.038). Conclusions: Factors associated with higher SMT included male sex, interval following tooth extraction < 6 months, periapical lesions, sinus septa, and nasal septum deviation. Factors associated with SMT > 2 mm were sex and reason for tooth extraction, while factors associated with SMT < 0.8 mm were time following tooth extraction and nasal septum deviation. Despite the limitations of this study, these preoperative evaluations may be of utmost importance for safely conducting maxillary sinus floor augmentation.
Three-dimensional position changes of unopposed molars before implant rehabilitation: a short-term retrospective cohort analysis

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the spatial changes of unopposed molars within the period between the antagonist extraction and the final implant restoration using data from cone beam computed tomography. Methods: A total of 59 patients with 68 unopposed molars were included in this study. Three-dimensional models reconstructed from cone beam computed tomography data before and after loss of the antagonist were superimposed to measure the spatial changes. The overeruption and tipping of target teeth were calculated by coordinate values. Results: The result of overeruption over the study period (9.2 & PLUSMN; 4.3 months) was expressed by two values: the mean overeruption of molar cups (0.432 mm) and the maximum overeruption of cusps (0.753 mm), which were statistically significant compared to the baseline level (p < 0.001). The average tipping was 1.717 degrees in the buccal direction. Conclusions: Unopposed molars displayed overeruption throughout the study period (9.2 +/- 4.3 months), which indicates that the clinicians should pay attention to the possibilities of overeruption and make appropriate interventions in their clinical practice. The establishment of three-dimensional measuring methods using cone beam computed tomography data helps analyze spatial changes.
Restoratively driven planning for implants in the posterior maxilla - Part 1: alveolar bone healing, bone assessment and clinical classifications

Abstract:Sinus augmentation in conjunction with implant placement is widely considered to be a predictable and successful treatment option for the edentulous posterior maxilla. However, the anatomical changes of the posterior maxilla following tooth extraction (namely alveolar atrophy and pneumatisation of the maxillary sinus) creates unique challenges for implant and prosthodontic rehabilitation. A large volume of literature has been published regarding the surgical indications and treatment planning for implants in the posterior maxilla. In comparison, there is a relative paucity of literature regarding the prosthodontic challenges associated with implants placed in augmented maxillary sinuses. This article describes the scientific background of native and grafted alveolar bone healing in relation to implant rehabilitation. Furthermore, clinical classifications available to assist implant treatment planning are described.
Influence of the maxillary sinus floor on the orthodontic movement of maxillary first molars: a cone beam computed tomography study

Abstract:Objective:To comparatively investigate whether the proximity to the maxillary sinus floor affects the mesial translation and root resorption of the maxillary first molars during orthodontic extraction treatment using cone beam computed tomography.Methods:Forty-four adult patients who received premolar extraction treatment were selected and divided into two groups according to the relationship between the maxillary first molars and the maxillary sinus floor: group CP, in which all roots of the maxillary first molars are in contact with the maxillary sinus floor/projecting into the sinus; and group IF, in which all roots of the maxillary first molars isolate from the maxillary sinus floor. The mesial translation, mesiodistal angulation changes and root resorption were measured and compared between two groups before and after the treatment.Results:The mesial movement distances of the maxillary first molars in group IF were (2.56±1.00) mm for crowns and (2.44±1.30) mm for roots, while (2.73±1.20) mm for crowns and (2.80±0.99) mm for roots in group CP. There was no significant difference in the mesial translation ( P=0.121, P=0.202) and the changes of the mesiodistal angulation (group CP: 1.72°±4.58°, group IF: 0.82°±5.47°, P=0.425) between the two groups. However, group CP [(16.45±9.52) mm 3] showed significantly higher root resorption than group IF [(7.85±4.94) mm 3]( P<0.001). Conclusions:The maxillary first molars could move through the maxillary sinus floor successfully even when the roots were in contact with the maxillary sinus floor or projected into the sinus. The relationship between the maxillary first molars to the maxillary sinus floor did not influence the mesiodistal angulation changes. But the magnitude of root resorption obviously increased when roots were in contact with the maxillary sinus floor or projected into the sinus.
Delayed Implant Fixture Displacement into the Maxillary Sinus Five Years Post-Loading: Unraveling the Causes - A Case Report

Abstract:Reports of implant fixtures dislocating into the maxillary sinus during sinus graft procedures are well-documented. However, cases of fixtures migrating into the sinus long after placement have yet to be reported. This case report details the surgical extraction of a displaced screw and cement-retained prosthesis, including a fixture and its abutment, from the maxillary sinus after a minimum of 5 years under functional load. The extracted implant was subsequently examined using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. We found that the migration commenced with peri-implantitis surrounding the implant, replacing the second molar. This was accompanied by a loss of cement from the crown on this implant and concurrent loosening of the abutment screw on the implant, replacing the first molar. We hypothesize that the inability of the bony tissue surrounding the second molar implant to withstand occlusal forces resulted in forming a bony sequestrum. This process ultimately precipitated the migration of the fixture, along with its abutment and adjacent necrotic bone, into the sinus cavity.

Displacement in root apex and changes in incisor inclination affect alveolar bone remodeling in adult bimaxillary protrusion patients: a retrospective study

Abstract:Abstract Background Periodontal health is of great concern for periodontists and orthodontists in the inter-disciplinary management of patients with bimaxillary protrusion. The aim of present study is to investigate changes in the alveolar bone in the maxillary incisor region and to explore its relationship with displacement of root apex as well as changes in the inclination of maxillary incisors during incisor retraction. Methods Samples in this retrospective study consisted of 38 patients with bimaxillary protrusion. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images was taken before(T0) and after (T1) treatment. Alveolar bone thickness (ABT), height (ABH) and area (ABA) were utilized to evaluate changes in the alveolar bone, while incisor inclination and apex displacement were used to assess changes in the position of maxillary central and lateral incisors. Correlations between alveolar bone remodeling and apex displacement as well as changes in the inclination were investigated. Results The labial ABT of central and lateral incisors at the mid-root third was increased. In contrast, the palatal ABT at crestal, mid-root and apical third level were consistently decreased. ABH was not altered on the labial side, while significantly decreased on the palatal side. ABA was not significantly increased on the labial side, but significantly decreased on the palatal side, leading to a significantly reduced total ABA. Orthodontic treatment significantly reduced inclination of upper incisors. Changes in the amount (T1-T0) of ABA was remarkably correlated with apex displacement and changes of inclination (T1-T0); in addition, using the multivariate linear regression analysis, changes of ABA on the palatal side (T1-T0) can be described by following equation: Changes of palatal ABA (T1-T0) = − 3.258- 0.139× changes of inclination (T1-T0) + 2.533 × apex displacement (T1-T0). Conclusions Retraction of incisors in bimaxillary protrusion patients may compromise periodontal bone support on the palatal side. An equation that incorporated the displacement of root apex and change in the incisor inclination may enable periodontist-orthodontist interdisciplinary coordination in assessing treatment risks and developing an individualized treatment plan for adult patients with bimaxillary protrusion. Moreover, the equation in predicating area of alveolar bone may reduce the risks of placing the teeth out of the bone boundary during 3D digital setups.

Changes in alveolar process dimensions following extraction of molars with advanced periodontal disease: A clinical pilot study

Abstract:Objective: To use cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to assess the alterations of socket dimensions after a 6-month healing period following molar extraction. Materials and methods: Seventeen molars were extracted due to advanced periodontitis. CBCT scans were taken immediately after extraction and once more 6 months later. Superimposition of CBCT images was used to measure the following: horizontal changes at extraction sites at three corono-apical levels (-1, -3, and -5 mm) below the bone crest, three mesio-distal levels (mesial, central, and distal), vertical changes at nine regions of the alveolar crest, and alveolar bone volume. Results: The width of the central crests at -1 mm decreased by 0.59 and 0.72 mm in the buccal and 0.27 and 0.02 mm in the lingual, in the maxilla and mandible, respectively. No statistically significant decreases in the ridge height were observed except in the disto-palatal region with a 1.11 mm decrease in the maxilla (p < 0.05). Heights of the buccal and lingual bone plates decreased significantly and ranged from 0.56 to 1.38 mm in the mandible after 6 months of healing (p < 0.05). Overall, ridge height changes were not significantly different between the maxilla and mandible (p > 0.05) and no significant volumetric bone loss occurred in either maxillary or mandibular sockets after 6 months of healing. Conclusions: Socket dimensions of molars with advanced periodontal disease showed a significant increase at the middle-central portion, although there were no significant changes of horizontal width 6 months following the procedures.
Ridge preservation in maxillary molar extraction sites with severe periodontitis: a prospective observational clinical trial

Abstract:Objectives: To assess alveolar bone changes and treatment modality alterations after ridge preservation on maxillary molar extraction sockets with severe periodontitis, compared to natural healing. Material and methods: Thirty-six maxillary infected-molar teeth either receiving ridge preservation (RG group) or undergoing natural healing (NT group) were investigated. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanning was performed immediately after surgery (the baseline) and repeated 6 months later to measure the linear and volumetric changes of the sockets. Results: Based on radiographic measurements, alveolar bone width decreased by 1.58 ± 4.61 mm in the NT group but increased by 3.74 ± 4.17 mm in the RG group (p < 0.05). Significant increases in ridge height at the center of both the NT (7.54 ± 4.54 mm) and RG (9.20 ± 3.26 mm) groups were observed. Mean sinus pneumatization was 0.19 ± 0.45 mm in the RG group and 0.59 ± 0.63 mm in the NT group (p < 0.05). The relative increase in total ridge volume was 8.0% and 35.5% in the NT and RG group, respectively (p < 0.05). Implant placement with additional sinus augmentation procedure was performed in 16.7% of the RG group cases, whereas 50% in the NT group cases. Conclusions: Ridge preservation in the maxillary molar extraction sockets with severe periodontitis can improve alveolar ridge dimensions and decrease the necessity of advanced regenerative procedures at implant placement compared to natural healing. Clinical relevance: Ridge preservation on maxillary molar extraction sockets with severe periodontitis maintained the vertical bone height more efficiently and resulted in less need for sinus augmentation procedures at 6 months compared to natural healing.

Abstract:Abstract Background: Anchorage control is one of the key components in the treatment of extraction cases. However, why anchorage loss happens is still an unanswered question. The purpose of this study was to investigate the most important factors contributing to the anchorage loss of maxillary first molars in premolar extraction cases. The study enrolled 726 upper premolar extraction cases, including 214 male patients and 512 female patients, and the average age was 14 (range: 9-45 years old).Factors including physiological characteristics, treatment mechanics and cephalometric variables were collected and their influences on the angulation changes of maxillary first molars were analyzed. Results: The average angulation change of maxillary first molar after treatment was 2.81°, meaning the molar tipped forward during treatment by 2.81°. The change of UM/PP showed statistically significant difference in different sex ( male 3.84°±5.26 ° vs female 2.38°±5.10°), age (adult -0.05°±4.73 ° vs teenager 3.46°±5.07°), and molar relationship(Class II 3.28°±5.15°vs Class I 2.36°±5.19°). There are six variables accounted in the regression analysis (R=0.608, R²=37.0%). Among them, the pre-treatment molar tipping (Standardized Coefficients：-0.65) and the pre-treatment incisor/molar height ratio (Standardized Coefficients：-0.27)were the most important factors influencing anchorage loss during treatment.Conclusion: Compared with treatment-related factors, the patient’s physiological characteristics play a more important role in anchorage loss. The pre-treatment angulation of the maxillary first molar is the most contributing factor of the maxillary molar angulation changes, which are often predisposing anchorage loss.

Abstract:Epidemic, louse-borne typhus persists in the rugged, mountainous areas of Ethiopia and much of northeastern and central Africa as well as in the rural highlands of Central and South America, where the conditions of living favor the harboring of body lice and where antibiotic treatment and effective louse-control measures are unavailable. The historical significance and current epidemiology of typhus, including the reservoir of Rickettsia prowazekii in flying squirrels in the United States, are reviewed, and the clinical presentation, laboratory findings, and hospital course in the cases of 60 patients admitted with epidemic, louse-borne typhus to the St. Paul's Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, are described. Treatment of this disease with oral doxycycline, tetracycline, or chloramphenicol prevents complications and results in prompt resolution of symptoms.

Abstract:Background: The proximity between the maxillary sinus and dental roots may impede orthodontic tooth movement. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the maxillary sinus wall (MSW) and maxillary canines and posterior teeth using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Material/Methods: CBCT images (317) were examined for whether the mesial, distal, buccal, and palatal surfaces of the examined root contacted the MSW, and the contact distance of each root surface with the MSW was measured. The effects of age and sex were analyzed using logistic regression and linear regression analyses. Results: The highest contact ratios with the MSW (ranging from 62.0% to 73.2%) were observed at the palatal root surfaces of the first molar mesiobuccal and distobuccal roots (1M MB and DB), the buccal root surface of the first molar palatal roots (1M P), and the mesial and buccal root surfaces of the second molars (2M), followed by the distal root surface of the second premolars (2PM) and the mesial root surfaces of the 1M MB and P (ranging from 49.2% to 59.3%). At these root surfaces, the contact ratios decreased with age (P<0.05), but the lowest still reached a range of 29.4% to 57.9% in the 30- to 47-year-old group. Conclusions: The 2PM distal root surface, the 1M MB mesial and palatal root surfaces, the 1M DB palatal root surface, and the 1M P and 2M mesial and buccal root surfaces most frequently contacted the MSW. Clinicians should observe the contact of root surfaces with the MSW, even in aged patients.
