Abstract:Background: Routine clinical factors play an important role in the clinical diagnosis of focal liver lesions (FLLs); however, they are rarely used in computer-assisted diagnosis. Therefore, we developed a deep learning (DL) radiomics model, and investigated its effectiveness in diagnosing FLLs using long-range contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) cines and clinical factors. Methods: Herein, 303 patients with pathologically confirmed FLLs after surgery at three hospitals were retrospectively enrolled and divided into a training cohort (n=203), internal validation (IV) cohort (n=50) from one hospital with the ratio of 4:1, and external validation (EV) cohort (n=50) from the other two hospitals. Four DL radiomics models, namely Four Stream 3D convolutional neural network (FS3D(U)) (trained with CEUS cines only), FS3DU*A (trained with CEUS tines and alpha fetoprotein), FS3D(U+H) (trained with CEUS tines and hepatitis), and FS3D(U+A+H) (trained with CEUS tines, alpha fetoprotein, and hepatitis), were formed based on 31) convolutional neural networks (CNNs). They used approximately 20-s preoperative CEUS tines and/or clinical factors to extract spatiotemporal features for the classification of FLLs and the location of the region of interest. The area under curve of the receiver operating characteristic and diagnosis speed were calculated to evaluate the models in the IV and EV cohorts, and they were compared with those of two radiologists. Two-sided belong tests were used to calculate the statistical differences between the models and radiologists. Results: FS3D(U+A+H), which incorporated CEUS tines, hepatitis, and alpha fetoprotein, achieved the highest area under curve of 0.969 (95% CI: 0.901-1.000) and 0.957 (95% CI: 0.894-1.000) among radiologists and other models in IV and EV cohorts, respectively. A significant difference was observed when comparing FS3D(U) and radiologist 2 (all P<0.05). The diagnosis speed of all the models was the same (10.76 s per patient), and it was two times faster than those of the radiologists (radiologist 1: 23.74 and 27.75 s; radiologist 2: 25.95 and 29.50 s in IV and EV cohorts, respectively). Conclusions: The proposed DL radiomics demonstrated excellent performance on the benign and malignant diagnosis of FLLs by combining CEUS cines and clinical factors. It could help the individualized characterization of FLLs, and enhance the accuracy of diagnosis in the future.

Abstract:Ginsenosides, active ingredients of Panax ginseng, exist as stereoisomers depending on the position of the hydroxyl group on carbon-20; i.e. 20(R)-ginsenoside and 20(S)-ginsenoside are epimers. We previously investigated the structure-activity relationship of the ginsenoside Rg(3) stereoisomers, 20-R-protopanaxatriol-3-[O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1-->2)-beta-glucopyranoside], (20(R)-Rg(3)) and 20-S-protopanaxatriol-3-[O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1-->2)-beta-glucopyranoside], (20(S)-Rg(3)) in regulating 5-HT(3A) receptor-mediated ion currents (I(5-HT)) expressed in Xenopus oocytes and found that 20(S)-Rg(3) rather than 20(R)-Rg(3) was more stronger inhibitor of I(5-HT). In the present study, we further investigated the effects of 20(R)-Rg(3) and 20(S)-Rg(3) on mouse 5-HT(3A) receptor channel activity after site-directed mutations of 5-HT(3A) receptor facilitation site, which is located at pre-transmembrane domain I (pre-TM1). 5-HT(3A) receptor was expressed in Xenopus oocytes, and I(5-HT) was measured using two-electrode voltage clamp technique. In wild-type, both 20(R)-Rg(3) and 20(S)-Rg(3) inhibited I(5-HT) with concentration-dependent and reversible manner. Induction of 5-HT(3A) receptor facilitation by point mutations of pre-TM1 amino acid residue R222 to R222A, R222D, R222E or R222T not only decreased EC(50) values for I(5-HT) compared to wild-type but also abolished 20(R)-Rg(3)-induced inhibition of I(5-HT). Those mutations also shifted the IC(50) values by 20(S)-Rg(3) into right direction by 2- to 4-folds compared with wild-type. These results indicate that 5-HT(3A) receptor facilitation differentially affects 20(R)-Rg(3)- and 20(S)-Rg(3)-mediated 5-HT(3A) receptor channel regulation.

Abstract:Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common histological types of esophageal cancers. It can seriously affect public health, particularly in Eastern Asia. Early diagnosis and effective therapy of ESCC can significantly help improve patient prognoses. The visualization of intrapapillary capillary loops (IPCLs) under magnification endoscopy (ME) can greatly support the identification of ESCC occurrences by endoscopists. This paper proposes an artificial-intelligence-assisted endoscopic diagnosis approach using deep learning for localizing and identifying IPCLs to diagnose early-stage ESCC. An improved Faster region-based convolutional network (R-CNN) with a polarized self-attention (PSA)-HRNetV2p backbone was employed to automatically detect IPCLs in ME images. In our study, 2887 ME with blue laser imaging (ME-BLI) images of 246 patients and 493 ME with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) images of 81 patients were collected from multiple hospitals and used to train and test our detection model. The ME-NBI images were used as the external testing set to verify the generalizability of the model. The experimental evaluation revealed that the proposed method achieved a recall of 79.25%, precision of 75.54%, F1-score of 0.764 and mean average precision (mAP) of 74.95%. Our method outperformed other existing approaches in our evaluation. It can effectively improve the accuracy of ESCC detection and provide a useful adjunct to the assessment of early-stage ESCC for endoscopists.
Deep Learning Models for Gastric Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma Classification in Whole Slide Images

Abstract:Signet ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the stomach is a rare type of cancer with a slowly rising incidence. It tends to be more difficult to detect by pathologists, mainly due to its cellular morphology and diffuse invasion manner, and it has poor prognosis when detected at an advanced stage. Computational pathology tools that can assist pathologists in detecting SRCC would be of a massive benefit. In this paper, we trained deep learning models using transfer learning, fully-supervised learning, and weakly-supervised learning to predict SRCC in Whole Slide Images (WSIs) using a training set of 1,765 WSIs. We evaluated the models on two different test sets (n = 999, n = 455). The best model achieved a ROC-AUC of at least 0.99 on all two test sets, setting a top baseline performance for SRCC WSI classification.

Abstract:Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common malignant digestive tract tumors in China. Clinically, narrowband imaging combined with magnifying endoscopy (NBI-ME) can be used to investigate the morphological changes of microvessels in the esophageal mucosa and serves as an important means of diagnosing ESCC. To solve the ESCC recognition model's difficulty in considering both the recognition accuracy and reasoning efficiency, a lightweight residual network ( CALite-ResNet) with an integrated attention mechanism is proposed to classify esophageal NBI-ME images. The dataset for this study comprises 11468 NBI-ME images of 206 patients collected from multiple hospitals. The experimental results show that the accuracy and sensitivity of the ESCC recognition is 96. 39% and 95. 70% at the image level, and 95. 70% and 94. 62% at the patient level, respectively, and the average prediction time of a single esophageal image is 16. 42 ms. Therefore, the CALite-ResNet model has a higher recognition accuracy and faster reasoning efficiency for ESCC recognition, and a certain clinical significance and application value, thereby making it effective for use in the auxiliary clinical diagnosis of ESCC.

Abstract:Gastric cancer is a highly prevalent disease that poses a serious threat to public health. In clinical practice, gastroscopy is frequently used by medical practitioners to screen for gastric cancer. However, the symptoms of gastric cancer at different stages of advancement vary significantly, particularly in the case of early gastric cancer (EGC). The manifestations of EGC are often indistinct, leading to a detection rate of less than 10%. In recent years, researchers have focused on leveraging deep learning algorithms to assist medical professionals in detecting EGC and thereby improve detection rates. To enhance the ability of deep learning to detect EGC and segment lesions in gastroscopic images, an Improved Mask R-CNN (IMR-CNN) model was proposed. This model incorporates a "Bi-directional feature extraction and fusion module" and a "Purification module for feature channel and space" based on the Mask R-CNN (MR-CNN). Our study includes a dataset of 1120 images of EGC for training and validation of the models. The experimental results indicate that the IMR-CNN model outperforms the original MR-CNN model, with Precision, Recall, Accuracy, Specificity and F1-Score values of 92.9%, 95.3%, 93.9%, 92.5% and 94.1%, respectively. Therefore, our proposed IMR-CNN model has superior detection and lesion segmentation capabilities and can effectively aid doctors in diagnosing EGC from gastroscopic images.

Accurate multiclassification and segmentation of gastric cancer based on a hybrid cascaded deep learning model with a vision transformer from endoscopic images

Abstract:Compared with other forms of cancer, gastric cancer has high mortality and incidence rates, making it a major cause of death worldwide. Accurate diagnosis is crucial in the treatment of stomach cancer. Researchers have used deep learning techniques facilitated by developments in artificial intelligence to classify and segment endoscopic images of stomach cancer. Most recent research examining endoscopic images of stomach cancer has used a binary classification system, which is insufficient for practical use. False-positives and computational costs become problematic when segmentation is applied to all the images of healthy patients obtained throughout the evaluation. Hence, the expected level of performance has not been attained in the real-time multiclassification and segmentation of stomach cancer. In this study, we present a deep learning-based technique for multiclassification of endoscopic images by combining modified GoogLeNet and vision transformer (ViT) models and identifying invasive areas based on Faster R-CNN. The classification of endoscopic images into three categories, namely, normal, early gastric cancer, and advanced gastric cancer, is accomplished by using a hybrid approach including modified GoogLeNet and vision transformer (ViT) models. Gastric cancer regions are then identified and segmented in the endoscopic images using the Faster R-CNN method. The Faster R-CNN algorithm is used with an endoscopic image as input, resulting in the generation of a bounding box and label image that accurately represents the gastric cancerous area. The proposed model achieved an accuracy, sensitivity and F1-score of 97.4%, 97.5% and 95.9%, respectively, for the classification of noncancerous, early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer. Furthermore, the performance of the segmentation method was also validated based on evaluation metrics and achieved 96.7%, 96.6% and 95.5% accuracy, sensitivity and F1-score, respectively, for the segmentation of noncancerous, early gastric cancer and advanced gastric cancer tissues. In conclusion, the method proposed in this study demonstrates enhanced global classification and detection performance compared to existing state-of-the-art algorithms. This finding underscores the significant potential of the proposed method in the domain of gastric endoscopic image classification and segmentation.

Abstract:Deep learning-based computer-aided diagnosis techniques have demonstrated encouraging performance in endoscopic lesion identification and detection, and have reduced the rate of missed and false detections of disease during endoscopy. However, the interpretability of the model-based results has not been adequately addressed by existing methods. This phenomenon is directly manifested by a significant bias in the representation of feature localization. Good recognition models experience severe feature localization errors, particularly for lesions with subtle morphological features, and such unsatisfactory performance hinders the clinical deployment of models. To effectively alleviate this problem, we proposed a solution to optimize the localization bias in feature representations of cancer-related recognition models that is difficult to accurately label and identify in clinical practice. Optimization was performed in the training phase of the model through the proposed data augmentation method and auxiliary loss function based on clinical priors. The data augmentation method, called partial jigsaw, can “break” the spatial structure of lesion-independent image blocks and enrich the data feature space to decouple the interference of background features on the space and focus on fine-grained lesion features. The annotation-based auxiliary loss function used class activation maps for sample distribution correction and led the model to present localization representation converging on the gold standard annotation of visualization maps. The results show that with the improvement of our method, the precision of model recognition reached an average of 92.79%, an F1-score of 92.61%, and accuracy of 95.56% based on a dataset constructed from 23 hospitals. In addition, we quantified the evaluation representation of visualization feature maps. The improved model yielded significant offset correction results for visualized feature maps compared with the baseline model. The average visualization-weighted positive coverage improved from 51.85% to 83.76%. The proposed approach did not change the deployment capability and inference speed of the original model and can be incorporated into any state-of-the-art neural network. It also shows the potential to provide more accurate localization inference results and assist in clinical examinations during endoscopies.

Abstract:The surgical removal of head and neck tumors requires safe margins, which are usually confirmed intraoperatively by means of frozen sections. This method is, in itself, an oversampling procedure, which has a relatively low sensitivity compared to the definitive tissue analysis on paraffin-embedded sections. Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is an in-vivo imaging technique that has shown its potential in the live optical biopsy of tissue. An automated analysis of this notoriously difficult to interpret modality would help surgeons. However, the images of CLE show a wide variability of patterns, caused both by individual factors but also, and most strongly, by the anatomical structures of the imaged tissue, making it a challenging pattern recognition task. In this work, we evaluate four popular few shot learning (FSL) methods towards their capability of generalizing to unseen anatomical domains in CLE images. We evaluate this on images of sinunasal tumors (SNT) from five patients and on images of the vocal folds (VF) from 11 patients using a cross-validation scheme. The best respective approach reached a median accuracy of 79.6% on the rather homogeneous VF dataset, but only of 61.6% for the highly diverse SNT dataset. Our results indicate that FSL on CLE images is viable, but strongly affected by the number of patients, as well as the diversity of anatomical patterns.
Few-shot learning to identify atypical endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial cancer based on transvaginal ultrasonic images

Abstract:Objective: It is challenging to accurately distinguish atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) and endometrial cancer (EC) under routine transvaginal ultrasonic (TVU) detection. Our research aims to use the few-shot learning (FSL) method to identify non-atypical endometrial hyperplasia (NAEH), AEH, and EC based on limited TVU images. Methods: The TVU images of pathologically confirmed NAEH, AEH, and EC patients (n = 33 per class) were split into the support set (SS, n = 3 per class) and the query set (QS, n = 30 per class). Next, we used dual pretrained ResNet50 V2 which pretrained on ImageNet first and then on extra collected TVU images to extract 1*64 eigenvectors from the TVU images in SS and QS. Then, the Euclidean distances were calculated between each TVU image in QS and nine TVU images of SS. Finally, the k-nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm was used to diagnose the TVU images in QS. Results: The overall accuracy and macro precision of the proposed FSL model in QS were 0.878 and 0.882 respectively, superior to the automated machine learning models, traditional ResNet50 V2 model, junior sonographer, and senior sonographer. When identifying EC, the proposed FSL model achieved the highest precision of 0.964, the highest recall of 0.900, and the highest F1-score of 0.931. Conclusions: The proposed FSL model combining dual pretrained ResNet50 V2 eigenvectors extractor and KNN classifier presented well in identifying NAEH, AEH, and EC patients with limited TVU images, showing potential in the application of computer-aided disease diagnosis.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION:Patients with atrophic gastritis (AG) or gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) have elevated risk of gastric adenocarcinoma. Endoscopic screening and surveillance have been implemented in high incidence countries. The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) for simultaneous recognition of AG and GIM.METHODS:Archived endoscopic white light images with corresponding gastric biopsies were collected from 14 hospitals located in different regions of China. Corresponding images by anatomic sites containing AG, GIM, and chronic non-AG were categorized using pathology reports. The participants were randomly assigned (8:1:1) to the training cohort for developing the CNN model (TResNet), the validation cohort for fine-tuning, and the test cohort for evaluating the diagnostic accuracy. The area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy with 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated.RESULTS:A total of 7,037 endoscopic images from 2,741 participants were used to develop the CNN for recognition of AG and/or GIM. The AUC for recognizing AG was 0.98 (95% CI 0.97-0.99) with sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 96.2% (95% CI 94.2%-97.6%), 96.4% (95% CI 94.8%-97.9%), and 96.4% (95% CI 94.4%-97.8%), respectively. The AUC for recognizing GIM was 0.99 (95% CI 0.98-1.00) with sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of 97.9% (95% CI 96.2%-98.9%), 97.5% (95% CI 95.8%-98.6%), and 97.6% (95% CI 95.8%-98.6%), respectively.DISCUSSION:CNN using endoscopic white light images achieved high diagnostic accuracy in recognizing AG and GIM.
Advanced CNN models in gastric cancer diagnosis: enhancing endoscopic image analysis with deep transfer learning

Abstract:Introduction: The rapid advancement of science and technology has significantly expanded the capabilities of artificial intelligence, enhancing diagnostic accuracy for gastric cancer. Methods: This research aims to utilize endoscopic images to identify various gastric disorders using an advanced Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model. The Kvasir dataset, comprising images of normal Z-line, normal pylorus, ulcerative colitis, stool, and polyps, was used. Images were pre-processed and graphically analyzed to understand pixel intensity patterns, followed by feature extraction using adaptive thresholding and contour analysis for morphological values. Five deep transfer learning models-NASNetMobile, EfficientNetB5, EfficientNetB6, InceptionV3, DenseNet169-and a hybrid model combining EfficientNetB6 and DenseNet169 were evaluated using various performance metrics. Results & discussion: For the complete images of gastric cancer, EfficientNetB6 computed the top performance with 99.88% accuracy on a loss of 0.049. Additionally, InceptionV3 achieved the highest testing accuracy of 97.94% for detecting normal pylorus, while EfficientNetB6 excelled in detecting ulcerative colitis and normal Z-line with accuracies of 98.8% and 97.85%, respectively. EfficientNetB5 performed best for polyps and stool with accuracies of 98.40% and 96.86%, respectively.The study demonstrates that deep transfer learning techniques can effectively predict and classify different types of gastric cancer at early stages, aiding experts in diagnosis and detection.
Using Few-Shot Learning to Classify Primary Lung Cancer and Other Malignancy with Lung Metastasis in Cytological Imaging via Endobronchial Ultrasound Procedures

Abstract:This study aims to establish a computer-aided diagnosis system for endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) surgery to assist physicians in the preliminary diagnosis of metastatic cancer. This involves arranging immediate examinations for other sites of metastatic cancer after EBUS surgery, eliminating the need to wait for reports, thereby shortening the waiting time by more than half and enabling patients to detect other cancers earlier, allowing for early planning and implementation of treatment plans. Unlike previous studies on cell image classification, which have abundant datasets for training, this study must also be able to make effective classifications despite the limited amount of case data for lung metastatic cancer. In the realm of small data set classification methods, Few-shot learning (FSL) has become mainstream in recent years. Through its ability to train on small datasets and its strong generalization capabilities, FSL shows potential in this task of lung metastatic cell image classification. This study will adopt the approach of Few-shot learning, referencing existing proposed models, and designing a model architecture for classifying lung metastases cell images. Batch Spectral Regularization (BSR) will be incorporated as a loss update parameter, and the Finetune method of PMF will be modified. In terms of test results, the addition of BSR and the modified Finetune method further increases the accuracy by 8.89% to 65.60%, outperforming other FSL methods. This study confirms that FSL is superior to supervised and transfer learning in classifying metastatic cancer and demonstrates that using BSR as a loss function and modifying Finetune can enhance the model's capabilities.

Evaluation of deep learning methods for early gastric cancer detection using gastroscopic images

Abstract:BACKGROUND: A timely diagnosis of early gastric cancer (EGC) can greatly reduce the death rate of patients. However, the manual detection of EGC is a costly and low-accuracy task. The artificial intelligence (AI) method based on deep learning is considered as a potential method to detect EGC. AI methods have outperformed endoscopists in EGC detection, especially with the use of the different region convolutional neural network (RCNN) models recently reported. However, no studies compared the performances of different RCNN series models. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the performances of different RCNN series models for EGC. METHODS: Three typical RCNN models were used to detect gastric cancer using 3659 gastroscopic images, including 1434 images of EGC: Faster RCNN, Cascade RCNN, and Mask RCNN. RESULTS: The models were evaluated in terms of specificity, accuracy, precision, recall, and AP. Fast RCNN, Cascade RCNN, and Mask RCNN had similar accuracy (0.935, 0.938, and 0.935). The specificity of Cascade RCNN was 0.946, which was slightly higher than 0.908 for Faster RCNN and 0.908 for Mask RCNN. CONCLUSION: Faster RCNN and Mask RCNN place more emphasis on positive detection, and Cascade RCNN places more emphasis on negative detection. These methods based on deep learning were conducive to helping in early cancer diagnosis using endoscopic images.

Abstract:Background Esophageal cancer is the seventh most frequently diagnosed cancer with a high mortality rate and the sixth leading cause of cancer deaths in the world. Early detection of esophageal cancer is very vital for the patients. Traditionally, contrast computed tomography (CT) was used to detect esophageal carcinomas, but with the development of deep learning (DL) technology, it may now be possible for non-contrast CT to detect esophageal carcinomas. In this study, we aimed to establish a DL-based diagnostic system to stage esophageal cancer from non-contrast chest CT images. Methods In this retrospective dual-center study, we included 397 primary esophageal cancer patients with pathologically confirmed non-contrast chest CT images, as well as 250 healthy individuals without esophageal tumors, confirmed through endoscopic examination. The images of these participants were treated as the training data. Additionally, images from 100 esophageal cancer patients and 100 healthy individuals were enrolled for model validation. The esophagus segmentation was performed using the no-new-Net (nnU-Net) model; based on the segmentation result and feature extraction, a decision tree was employed to classify whether cancer is present or not. We compared the diagnostic efficacy of the DL-based method with the performance of radiologists with various levels of experience. Meanwhile, a diagnostic performance comparison of radiologists with and without the aid of the DL-based method was also conducted. Results In this study, the DL-based method demonstrated a high level of diagnostic efficacy in the detection of esophageal cancer, with a performance of AUC of 0.890, sensitivity of 0.900, specificity of 0.880, accuracy of 0.882, and F-score of 0.891. Furthermore, the incorporation of the DL-based method resulted in a significant improvement of the AUC values w.r.t. of three radiologists from 0.855/0.820/0.930 to 0.910/0.955/0.965 ( p = 0.0004/<0.0001/0.0068, with DeLong’s test). Conclusion The DL-based method shows a satisfactory performance of sensitivity and specificity for detecting esophageal cancers from non-contrast chest CT images. With the aid of the DL-based method, radiologists can attain better diagnostic workup for esophageal cancer and minimize the chance of missing esophageal cancers in reading the CT scans acquired for health check-up purposes.

Abstract:Gastric cancer is a deadly disease which should be treated in time, in order to increase the life span of the patient. Computer aided diagnosis will help the doctors to identify the gastric cancer easily. In this paper, a CAD based approach is projected to discriminate and categorize gastric cancers from various other intestinal disorders. The approach provided the Xception network, with individual convolutions. The projected technique applied three procedures: Google's Auto Augment for augmentation purpose, BCGDU-Net for segmentation and Xception network for lesion classification. The augmentation and segmentation facilitated theclassifying technique to be enhanced because this methodology prohibited overfitting. The segmented region is classified as cancerous or non-cancerous based on the features extracted in the Xception network training phase. This method is analyzed with the different combinations of augmentation, segmentation with and without ROC. It is found that the area under ROC curve for augmentation and segmentation is higher than the other two cases. Moreover, this technique provides a segmentation accuracy of 98% when compared with existing methods like fuzzy C means, global thresholding, BCD-Net, U Net. The classification accuracy of 98.9% is obtained, which is higher than the existing techniques like Res Net, VGG net, Mobile Net.

Abstract:Esophageal cancer is the sixth leading cancer in the world cause of mortality, nearly half of the new cases found in China with most of the type: esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Detection of early ESCC is essential to improving a patient's survival. 1. We apply magnifying endoscopy narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) and Lugol's chromoendoscopy (LCE) in ESCC detection, where ME-NBI is more accurate than conventional white light, and LCE has higher sensitivity than HD-WLE. 2. We mark the ME-NBI lesion object in two different types of classes: Real and Distinct boundaries. The label region of distinct boundary covers all lesion areas, including blurred borders, while the label region of real boundary only covers clear lesions. The main benefit of incorporating various types of classes is to help us to identify the border of the lesion area more clearly since the scenario that blurred borders caused by the imaging reconstruction error can be excluded. 3. By combining different recently published advanced modules, we construct multiple instance segmentation frameworks and obtain the most optimal one for ESCC detection. The modules mainly include (1) InstaBoost, a widely used image random augmentation technique; (2) Cascade RCNN, a multistage target detection architecture; (3) DCN that enhances the transformation modeling capabilities. 4. The machine learning performance demonstrates the efficacy of our application and shows that it has great potential to apply to real-time clinical Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD).

[The effect of live cultures of Bacillus subtilis on body nonspecific resistance].

Abstract:Alive cultures of Bacillus subtilis, antagonists of pyogenic microflora, have been studied for their effect on functional activity of macrophagal cells and induction of endogenic serum alpha-interferon in the female mice of the SBA line. It is established that even a single intravaginal and intraperitoneal introduction of bacilli in a dose of 1 milliard cells in 0.1 ml of cultural fluid stimulates migration, absorption and especially bactericidal activity of macrophages of peritoneal exudate. Introduction of alive cultures of aerobic bacilli essentially stimulates the in vivo production of the serum and alpha-interferon induced in vitro by the Newcastle disease virus. The highest immune-stimulating effect under a single introduction of B. subtilis is achieved 66 h later and has a tendency to gradual decrease.

Abstract:Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers, which ranks third among the leading causes of cancer death. Biopsy of gastric mucosa is a standard procedure in gastric cancer screening test. However, manual pathological inspection is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Besides, it is challenging for an automated algorithm to locate the small lesion regions in the gigapixel whole-slide image and make the decision <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://correctly.To" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> tackle these issues, we collected large-scale whole-slide image dataset with detailed lesion region annotation and designed a whole-slide image analyzing framework consisting of 3 networks which could not only determine the screening result but also present the suspicious areas to the pathologist for reference. Experiments demonstrated that our proposed framework achieves sensitivity of 97.05% and specificity of 92.72% in screening task and Dice coefficient of 0.8331 in segmentation task. Furthermore, we tested our best model in real-world scenario on 10,315 whole-slide images collected from 4 medical centers.

Abstract:The survival rate of early gastric cancer and esophageal cancer is more than 90%. Confocal endoscopy can detect cell morphology and mucosal glandular structure (depth about 500 μm), presenting a cross-sectional microscopic image unfamiliar to both endoscopists and pathologists. Therefore, using computer-aided diagnosis technology to complete real-time artificial intelligence diagnosis of early esophageal and gastric cancer is of great significance for early detection and early treatment of cancer patients. ResNet convolution neural network based image classification model, the introduction of attention mechanism based on CBAM module to improve the performance of the model, to achieve intelligent diagnosis of confocal endoscopy images.
