Abstract:Fabricating a self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor with superior performances and cost-effective design is highly desirable but still remains challenges. Herein, we develop a self-powered PEC molecular imprinted (MIP) sensor integrating WO3/TiO2 photoanode and gold nanoparticles modified carbon intercalated MoS2 photocathode for highly sensitive and specific detection of chloroquine phosphate (CQP). By constructing a reasonable stepped energy band structure, the electrons are efficiently transferred driven by the Fermi energy level gap between photoanode and photocathode, which amplifies the cathodic photocurrent. Furthermore, the mechanism of electron transfer driven by the Fermi energy level gap in the self-powered sensor was demonstrated for the first time by density functional theory (DFT). The Molecular imprinted polymer was modified on the photocathode as recognition element, which avoids the interference of reducing substances in the samples and complex biometric reactions. Under optimal conditions, the proposed MIP sensor for CQP presents the detection limit of 0.11 μM with a broad linear range from 10−6 M to 10−3 M. This work presented an innovative design strategy for constructing self-powered sensor.

Abstract:The feasibility of new InSbTe (IST) chalcogenide materials at the deposition temperatures of 225 and 250 degrees C using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) for phase-change random access memory (PRAM) applications was investigated. Samples grown at 225 degrees C consisted of the main InTe phase, including a small amount of Sb. On the other hand, samples grown at 250 degrees C included the crystalline phases of InSb and InSbTe. MOCVD-IST materials are powerful candidates for highly-integrated PRAM applications.

Abstract:A highly sensitive and visible-light-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor has been constructed for the quantitative assay of organophosphorus pesticides like chlorpyrifos (Chlo) using hollow Co9S8@CdS heterostructures. The Co9S8@CdS heterostructures were created by growing CdS onto Co9S8 surface via one-step oil bath route, of which Co9S8 was fabricated with hollow tubular structures through the Co(CO3)(0.35)Cl-0.2(OH)(1.1)-templated solvothermal method. It was discovered that the so-obtained Co9S8@CdS with direct Z-scheme heterojunctions could exhibit larger photocurrents than the Co9S8 or CdS because of the greatly enhanced separation efficiency of photo-generated carriers. What's more, the photocurrent signal of Co9S8@CdS-based PEC sensor could be selectively inhibited with the addition of Chlo through the specific chelation between the N and S atoms of Chlo with C = N and P = S groups and Co sites of Co9S8@CdS so as to suppress the carriers transferring. The developed PEC sensor could exhibit a linear response for Chlo ranging from 0.050 to 1000 ppb, with the detection limit value down to 0.015 ppb, which was far below than those of currently reported PEC sensors. Besides, the proposed routes may provide guidelines for designing various direct Z-scheme heterojunction-based PEC analysis platforms for determining environmental pollutants like Chlo.
The Dual-Function of Hematite-Based Photoelectrochemical Sensor for Solar-to-electricity Conversion and Self-Powered Glucose Detection

Abstract:Photoelectrochemical (PEC) glucose sensing has been developed as a novel promising electrochemical approach for advanced analysis due to the advantages of high sensitivity and selectivity as well as good stability. Here, we present a Fe2O3 nanorod (Fe2O3NR)-based PEC sensor, which shows excellent performance in glucose detection for the concentrations in the range of 0.2-2.0 mM with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.997 and a sensitivity of 100.46 mu A cm(-2) mM(-1). Furthermore, the glucose determination can be achieved without inputting external electrical power via a photo fuel cell (PFC) which is fabricated by the Fe2O3NR photoanode and platinum cathode. The generated maximum power density (P-max) shows a linear sensitivity of 3.53 mu W cm(-2) mM(-1) to the variation of glucose concentrations from 0.5 to 2.5 mM with correlation coefficient of 0.990. Therefore, the Fe2O3NR-based PEC sensor not only realizes the electricity generation from renewable solar energy and bioenergy but also accomplishes the detection of glucose by self-power.

Abstract:Exploring efficient strategy for high-efficiency photoelectric conversion is quite important to design sensitive self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing platform. This work designed a high performance self-powered PEC sensing platform by the integration of piezoelectric effect with localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect based on ZnO-WO 3-x heterostructures. Due to the fluid eddy induced piezoelectric effect by magnetic stirring, the piezoelectric semiconductor ZnO nanorod arrays (ZnO NRs) can facilitate the transfer of electrons and holes by generating piezoelectric potentials under external forces, thereby contributing to the performance of self-powered PEC platforms. Such working mechanism of the piezoelectric effect was studied by using the COMSOL software. Moreover, the introduction of defect engineered WO 3 (WO 3-x ) can further broaden the light absorption and promote the charge transfer owing to the nonmetallic surface plasmon resonance effect. Remarkably, due to the synergizing piezoelectric and plasmonic effect, the photocurrent and maximum power output of ZnO-WO 3-x heterostructures were enhanced by 3.3-fold and 5.5-fold than that of bare ZnO, respectively. After the immobilization of the enrofloxacin (ENR) aptamer, the self-powered sensor demonstrated an excellent linearity (1 × 10 −14 M to 1 × 10 −9 M) with a low detection limit of 1.8 × 10 −15 M (S/N = 3). This work undoubtedly holds great promise to provide the innovative inspiration for the formation of high-performance self-powered sensing platform, which opens up a new horizon of potential in food safety and environmental monitoring.

Abstract:A highly sensitive and convenient electrochemical sensor, based on surface molecularly imprinted polymers and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, was successfully developed to detect chlorpyrifos in real samples. In order to solve the problems like uneven shapes, poor size accessibility and low imprinting capacity, the layer of the molecularly imprinted polymer was prepared on the surface of silica nanospheres. Moreover, the doping of multi-walled carbon nanotubes greatly improved the electrical properties of developed sensor. Under the optimal conductions, the electrochemical response of the sensor is linearly proportional to the concentration of chlorpyrifos in the range of 5.0 × 10-12 mol/L - 5.0 × 10-8 mol/L with a low detection limit of 8.1 × 10-13 mol/L. The prepared sensor exhibited multiple advantages such as low cost, simple preparation, convenient use, excellent selectivity, and good reproducibility. Abstract:In this study, a simple wet chemical method was used to prepare p-n heterojunction photoelectric composites (Bi2S3@g-C3N4). The p-n junctions were formed to facilitate charge transfer as well as strongly suppress electron-hole pair recombination, thus enhancing the photoelectrochemical (PEC) characteristics. Particularly, according to the transient surface photocurrent response, the photocurrent intensity of the prepared composites was 2.98 times higher relative to the pristine g-C3N4 material. The photocurrent signal revealed the prepared novel PEC sensor composed of Bi2S3@g-C3N4 composite material, which can be used for sensitively and selectively detecting chlorpyrifos. This method presented a linear change from 50 ng/mL to 0.1 mg/mL of chlorpyrifos under the optimal conditions. The linear regression equation was I(μA)=0.8546-0.1558lgC(mg/mL) (R2=0.9758) and the detection limit was 0.03 ng/mL (S/N=3). In addition, the novel sensing platform with high selectivity could assist in rapidly and effectively detecting chlorpyrifos in environmental analysis.

Abstract:Pesticide residues represent a serious challenge for environmental protection, food safety, and public health. Addressing this challenge, this study strategically developed an electrochemical sensor with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) as the recognition element to accurately detect chlorpyrifos in environmental samples. In this study, we used vinyl‐modified SiO2 as the matrix, methacrylic acid as the functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as the cross‐linker, and azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator to synthesize the surface‐imprinted polymers. The development of the electrochemical sensor involved a detailed modification of the electrode, first by integrating carboxylated multi‐walled carbon nanotubes and graphene oxide to improve its properties, and then by applying a suspension of MIPs to the glassy carbon electrode. This process resulted in a sensor capable of detecting chlorpyrifos in environmental samples with high sensitivity. The electrochemical sensor, designed for chlorpyrifos detection, exhibited a robust linear response in peak current to varying concentrations of chlorpyrifos, ranging from 1 × 10−11 to 1 × 10−5 mol L−1. It achieved a detection limit as low as 1.85 × 10−11 mol L−1 (S/N = 3). Testing confirmed the sensor's exceptional repeatability, stability, and high selectivity towards chlorpyrifos, underscoring its efficacy. The demonstrated capabilities of this sensor suggest its substantial potential for widespread use in pesticide regulation and environmental conservation efforts.

Abstract:Chlorpyrifos is a commonly used organophosphorus pesticide in agriculture. However, its neurotoxicity poses a huge threat to human health. To detect trace amounts of chlorpyrifos, we herein developed a regenerative electrochemical aptasensor for the sensitive detection of chlorpyrifos. The nanocomposite consisting of copper oxide nanoflowers (CuO NFs) and carboxyl-functionalized single walled carbon nanotubes (c-SWCNTs) was prepared to improve the sensing performance for chlorpyrifos detection. Various characterization methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) were used to demonstrate the successful fabrication of biosensor. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was utilized to optimize test conditions and quantify chlorpyrifos. Under optimal conditions, the biosensor obtained a good linearity for chlorpyrifos ranging from 0.1 to 150ng/mL, with a lower detection limit of 70pg/mL. This aptasensor also exhibited high selectivity and outstanding repeatability, and was successfully applied to the determination of chlorpyrifos in spiked apple and celery cabbage with satisfactory recoveries. Furthermore, the sensor can be easily regenerated by urea for continuous application. With all the features, the proposed strategy provides an excellent platform for regenerative and selective detection of chlorpyrifos.

Abstract:An ultrasensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunoassay based on multiple signal amplification strategy was fabricated for the detection of microcystin-LR (MC-LR). The CdS/TiO2 nanorod arrays (CdS/TiO2 NRAs) modified FTO electrode, which can weaken the self-oxidation by photogenerated holes of CdS nanoparticles, and limit the recombination of electron-hole pairs and broaden optical absorption of TiO2 NRAs, was used as a visible-light driven material to immobilize antigens. Then, Fe3O4 nanoparticles/polydopamine (Fe3O4@PDA) was used as the carrier to load secondary antibody (Ab2) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP), where Fe3O4 nanoparticles and HRP can synergistically accelerate the oxidation of 4-chloro-1-naphthol (4-CN) by H2O2 to produce biocatalytic precipitation (BCP) on the surface of modified electrode. Due to the catalytic activity of Fe3O4 nanoparticles and HRP, the nonproductive absorption of HRP and the steric hindrance by BCP, the photocurrent change was amplified. The proposed PEC immunosensor can detect MC-LR in a range of 0.005-500 μg/L with a detection limit of 0.001 μg/L. Meanwhile, the PEC immunosensor exhibited high sensitivity, good stability, acceptable selectivity and reproducibility, indicating its potential application in environmental monitoring.

Abstract:As a newly developed sensing mode, self-powered PEC sensing may successfully address issues like individual photoanode or photocathode sensing with poor signal responsiveness and weak anti-interference capacity. Herein, a self-powered PEC sensor was developed to detect oxytetracycline (OTC) by integrating SnS 2 /Sb 2 S 3 photoanode with Cu 2 O photocathode, and zirconium porphyrin-based metal–organic framework (ZPM) as multifunctional signal label to achieve signal amplification. The highly efficient and stable self-powered biosensor not only delivers a sustained and robust photocurrent response for bioanalysis, thanks to its well-designed stepped band structure, but also successfully mitigates interference from reducing agents. Furthermore, the ZPM was firstly used as a multifunctional nano label in PEC biosensing platform. On the one hand, the ZPM has a large specific surface area and abundant functional groups that can be used to immobilize the aptamer. On the other hand, because of steric hindrance, poor conductivity, competition for dissolved oxygen and light source with the substrate, the ZPM can as photocathode quenching source to affect the photocurrent response. In optimized experimental conditions, the fabricated PEC sensing platform showed a broad linear range of 0.1 pM to 100 nM for assay of OTC with a low limit of detection (LOD=0.03 pM), coupled by its quantification in human serum samples with acceptable results. This work provides an avenue for the development of high-performance photoelectrochemical materials and opens up the possibility of designing more sensitive self-powered PEC biosensors.

Photonuclear and atomic cross sections of 27Al between 3 and 38 MeV.

Abstract:The total cross section for photon absorption of Al was measured for energies between 3 and 38 MeV with a el-ray spectrometer consisting of a liquid deuterium target viewed by a photoneutron time-of-flight detector. Corrections to the observed total cross section for background electromagnetic processes in the absorber were computed by a Monte Carlo method. Between 5 and 8 MeV where the photonuclear cross section sigma/sub N/ is negligible and the uncertainty in the measurements is small, values of the atomic cross section sigma/sub Z/ calculated by others systematically exceed the measured values by 0.7%. In this energy interval sigma/sub Z/ is mainly due to incoherent photon scattering by atomic electrons. Nonrelativistic atomic form factors and estimated radiative corrections used in calculating the tabulated incoherent scattering cross sections introduced enough uncertainty to justify decreasing sigma/sub incoh/ by 0.87% to bring sigma/sub Z/ into agreement with experiment. Correcting this discrepancy causes the integral between 10 and 38 MeV of sigma/sub N/, which has a maximum value of about 5% of sigma/sub Z/, to increase by 18% to 500 MeV mb. We conclude that the giant dipole resonance of /sup 27/Al has a strength of 1.24 classical sum rule units.
One Stone, Three Birds: SnO2 Nanosheet Arrays toward Self‐Powered Visible‐Blind UV Photodetection with High Responsivity and Rejection Ratio

Abstract:High‐performance SnO2‐based self‐powered photoelectrochemical‐type UV photodetectors with high responsivity, excellent spectral selectivity, and fast response speed are demonstrated. The outstanding UV photoresponse originates from the synergistic effect of the improved interfacial charge transfer and carrier transport and the enhanced UV light absorption by a 3D SnO2 nanosheet array. Photoelectrochemical‐type ultraviolet photodetectors (PEC UV PDs) with simple fabrication processes and high sensitivity have attracted ever‐growing attention. However, the self‐powered performance of PEC UV PDs is still unsatisfying. Herein, the SnO2 nanosheet array (NSA) photoanodes are fabricated and their good self‐powered UV detection capability is demonstrated. The 3D structure of SnO2 NSA not only improves the interfacial charge transfer and carrier transport but also enhances UV absorption. Therefore, the self‐powered SnO2 NSA‐based PEC UV PDs exhibit excellent performance with an ultrahigh responsivity of 207.12 mA W−1, an excellent UV–visible rejection ratio (R254/R455 of 3395), a fast response time (25 ms), and good stability under 254 nm illumination, demonstrating one of the recorded‐high‐performance in the recently reported PEC UV PDs. This work provides more options for developing high‐performance PEC UV PDs.

Abstract:A self-powered photoanode-supported photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensor was designed based on In2O3/In2S3/CdIn2S4 as photoanode and PDA@CNTs as biocathode for the detection of CYFRA 21-1. In this proposal, In2O3/In2S3/CdIn2S4 heterojunction modified indium-tin oxide (ITO) electrode was served as a substitute for platinum (Pt) counter electrode to provide an evident and stable photocurrent signal. The matched band structure of In2O3, In2S3 and CdIn2S4 as well as the unique hollow porous structure of In2O3/In2S3/CdIn2S4 played a pivotal role in accelerating the separation and transfer of photocarrier. Meanwhile, PDA@CNTs with excellent conductivity further enhanced the photocurrent which was provided by photoanode In2O3/In2S3/CdIn2S4 heterojunction. Besides, PDA could effectively capture the antibody (Ab) through Michael addition. Separating photoanode from the sensing biocathode was conducive to improve the anti-interference capability of PEC sensor because the reductive species in biologic media will change PEC properties of the photoanode interface. Under optimal conditions, the PEC immunosensor have realized the detection of CYFRA 21-1 (0.5 pg/mL - 50 ng/mL) and the detection limitation with 0.16 pg/mL. In addition, the proposed self-powered PEC sensor with acceptable selectivity, reproducibility, and stability provide a new horizon for designing PEC immunosensing platform in bioassays.

Abstract:Although cathodic photoelectrochemical (PEC) analysis has inherently good anti-interference properties, the relatively insufficient number of holes and rapid recombination rate of carriers result in the relatively low sensitivity of PEC sensors; thus, an additional bias voltage is often required in practical applications. Herein, this study presents a self-powered PEC aptasensing platform to detect microcystin-LR (MC-LR) by integrating an n-type semiconductor Bi 2 S 3 photoanode with a p-type semiconductor CuInS 2 photocathode. Based on the difference between the Fermi levels of Bi 2 S 3 and CuInS 2 , a large number of photogenerated electrons produced by the Bi 2 S 3 photoanode can be supplied to the CuInS 2 photocathode along an external circuit, effectively solving the problem of an inconspicuous photocurrent in the cathodic PEC analysis. The constructed sensor can detect MC-LR in the range from 10 fg/mL to 10 ng/mL with a low limit of detection of 9.0 fg/mL ( S / N = 3). In addition to its high sensitivity, the aptasensing platform exhibited good anti-interference properties and reproducibility. The constructed self-powered PEC aptasensor can achieve highly efficient MC-LR determination without the addition of any electron donors or acceptors and does not require the application of an additional bias voltage, which uncovers new perspectives for the development of high-performance PEC sensors.

Abstract:It is important to detect light of low power density sensitively and fast for the application of optical communication, environmental monitoring, astronomy, and national securities. However, ZnO‐based photodetectors exhibit long decay time owing to the persistent photoconductivity (PPC) and are hard to detect light with low power density efficiently. Here, a practical strategy is utilized to improve the performance of ZnO‐based photodetectors by coupling the pyroelectric effect of ZnO with localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of Au nanoparticles subtly. Hence, a self‐powered photodetector is demonstrated, which is integrated with ZnO/CuO core–shell nanorods and Au nanoparticles to detect UV to vis light. This self‐powered photodetector achieves fast and sensitive detection of UV when power density is 68 nW cm−2. The performance is significantly improved than the photodetectors without Au nanoparticles. The optimal responsivity and detectivity under the same power density of UV at 325 nm are 1.4 × 10−4 A W−1 and 3.3 × 1011 Jones. Response/recovery time is remarkably shortened to ≈10 ms. The results indicate that the material configurations and design concept make the device applicable for self‐powered, high‐performance photodetectors, and provide further promoted understanding of LSPR enhanced performance of photodetectors. The performance of a self‐powered photodetector based on CuO–ZnO p–n junction is improved significantly by coupling with the pyroelectric effect inspired by localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and photovoltaic effect. Transient thermal power generated by LSPR of Au nanoparticles can raise transient temperature variation once the light turns on, which enhances the detection performance of photodetector for the weak light.

Abstract:BACKGROUND In patients with isolated syndromes that are clinically suggestive of multiple sclerosis, such as optic neuritis or brain-stem or spinal cord syndromes, the presence of lesions as determined by T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain increases the likelihood that multiple sclerosis will develop. We sought to determine the relation between early lesion volume, changes in volume, and long-term disability. METHODS Seventy-one patients in a serial MRI study of patients with isolated syndromes were reassessed after a mean of 14.1 years. Disability was measured with the use of Kurtzke's Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS; possible range, 0 to 10, with a higher score indicating a greater degree of disability). RESULTS Clinically definite multiple sclerosis developed in 44 of the 50 patients (88 percent) with abnormal results on MRI at presentation and in 4 of 21 patients (19 percent) with normal results on MRI. The median EDSS score at follow-up for those with multiple sclerosis was 3.25 (range, 0 to 10); 31 percent had an EDSS score of 6 or more (including three patients whose deaths were due to multiple sclerosis). The EDSS score at 14 years correlated moderately with lesion volume on MRI at 5 years (r=0.60) and with the increase in lesion volume over the first 5 years (r=0.61). CONCLUSIONS In patients who first present with isolated syndromes suggestive of multiple sclerosis, the increases in the volume of the lesions seen on magnetic resonance imaging of the brain in the first five years correlate with the degree of long-term disability from multiple sclerosis. This relation is only moderate, so the volume of the lesions alone may not be an adequate basis for decisions about the use of disease-modifying treatment.

Abstract:In spite of organic-inorganic perovskite emerging as a novel efficient light-harvesting material owing to their superior optical properties, excitonic properties, and electrical conductivity, the related applications are severely limited for their poor stability and selectivity. Herein, we introduced hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) and 2-(perfluorohexyl) ethyl methacrylate (PFEM) based molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to dual-functionalize CH3NH3PbI3. HCSs can provide perovskite load conditions, passivate perovskite defects, increase carrier transport and effectively improve its hydrophobicity. The perfluorinated organic compound based MIPs film can not only enhance the water and oxygen stability of perovskite, but also endow it specific selectivity. Moreover, it can reduce the photoexcited electron-hole pair recombination and prolong the electron lifetime. Benefiting from the synergistic sensitization of HCSs and MIPs, an ultrasensitive photoelectrochemical platform (MIPs@CH3NH3PbI3@HCSs/ITO) for cholesterol sensing was acquired with a very wide linear range of 5.0 × 10-14-5.0 × 10-8 mol/L and an extremely low detection limit of 2.39 × 10-15 mol/L. The designed PEC sensor exhibited good selectivity and stability, as well as practicality for real sample analysis. The present work extended the development of the high-performance perovskite and showed its broad application prospect for advanced PEC construction.

Abstract:The inappropriate and excessive use of chlorpyrifos has caused major damage to food safety and human health. Developing a simple yet sensitive detection method for chlorpyrifos residues is urgently needed. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor with high photoelectric conversion efficiency is of great significance for the detection of chlorpyrifos residues in food. In this work, a novel PEC sensor based on polythiophene derivative film (PS2TTz) for the detection of chlorpyrifos is constructed via simple one-step electropolymerization within only 3.5 min. Scanning electron microscopy, raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and other characterizations verified the effective decoration of PS2TTz film on the GCE, and the possible reaction mechanism between PS2TTz and chlorpyrifos was discussed. The PEC signal could be greatly decreased by PS2TTz film with chlorpyrifos due to the blocked transfer of electrons, leading to high sensitivity and good selectivity. On the basis of the proposed photoelectrochemical mechanism, the PEC sensor exhibited significant detection performance toward chlorpyrifos in the range of 1 to 218.92 μg/L with a LOD of 0.36 μg/L (S/N = 3). Impressively, the constructed PEC sensor was successfully applied in green vegetables, which expanded the scope for the detection of chlorpyrifos in practical application.
