Abstract:Zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are regarded as promising power sources for flexible and biocompatible devices due to their good sustainability and high intrinsic safety. However, their applications have been hindered by the issues of uncontrolled zinc dendrite growth and water-induced side reactions in conventional liquid electrolytes. Herein, an ionically crosslinked composite hydrogel electrolyte based on natural biomacromolecules, including iota-carrageenan and sodium alginate, is designed to promote highly efficient and reversible Zn plating/stripping. The abundant functional groups of the macromolecules effectively suppress the reactivity of water molecules and facilitate uniform Zn deposition. Moreover, the composite hydrogel electrolyte exhibits a high ionic conductivity of 5.89×10-2 S cm-1 and a Zn2+ transference number of 0.58. Consequently, the Zn||Zn symmetric cell with the composite hydrogel electrolyte shows a stable cycle life of more than 500 h. Meanwhile, the Zn||NH4V4O10 coin cell with the composite hydrogel electrolyte retains a high specific capacity of approximately 200 mA h g-1 after 600 cycles at 2 A g-1. The Zn||NVO pouch cell based on the hydrogel electrolyte also showed a high specific capacity of 246.1 mAh g-1 at 0.5 A g-1 and retained 70.7% of its initial capacity after 150 cycles. The pouch cell worked well at different bending angles and exhibited a capacity retention rate of 98% after returning to the initial state from 180°-folding. This work aims to construct high-performance hydrogel electrolytes by using low-cost natural materials, which may provide a solution for the application of ZIBs in flexible biocompatible devices.

Abstract:Abstract Hydrogel electrolytes consisting of salt ions, water solvents, and 3D polymer networks play the roles of an electrolyte and a separating membrane. These are receiving attention as a substitute for the currently used liquid electrolyte/separator materials in aqueous Zn metal batteries (AZMBs). In this study, a structural composite hydrogel electrolyte is designed by incorporating layered alumina microplatelets within a polymer matrix to achieve high mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness, thermal conductivity, and a large dielectric constant. The hydrogel electrolyte simultaneously achieves mechanical robustness and fast Zn ion transfer, enabling uniform Zn deposition without notable dendrite growth and propagation. Moreover, the rapid heat‐dissipating ability of the electrolyte demonstrates the potential for effective thermal management of AZMB cells. Consequently, Zn||Zn symmetric cells composed of the as‐designed electrolyte exhibit stable Zn plating/stripping behavior at various temperatures. Zn||poly(3,4‐ ethylenedioxythiophene)‐vanadium pentoxide (PVO) full cells have large energy densities of 356.9 W h kg −1 at 25 °C and 216.6 W h kg −1 at −20 °C and long‐term stability over 1,000 cycles. Further, pouch‐type Zn||PVO full cells with large energy densities operate stably while bent, folded, rolled, cut in half, or immersed in boiling and freezing water.

Abstract:Abstract Hydrogel electrolytes have been widely explored in aqueous zinc‐iodine batteries (AZIBs), in light of their intrinsic strong water‐retention capability and superior flexibility of hydrogel network. However, hydrogel‐based AZIBs are still facing challenges due to the inferior ionic conductivity, dendrite formation, and corresponding fatigue‐induced damage. Herein, a hydrogel electrolyte is designed and engineered with preferentially aligned porous structures, where Zn 2+ can promptly transport along the pores. AZIBs fabricated from the hydrogel electrolyte exhibited distinct cycling stability over 1,000 h (500 cycles) at 0.5 mA cm −2 . Moreover, in light of the substantially improved mechanical robustness, the hydrogel electrolyte network remained intact over a 27,000‐cycle charging/discharging test at 5 A g −1 , with a slight change in capacity, surpassing most previously reported AZIBs. Such kind of hydrogel electrolyte‐based AZIBs can be further explored as the flexible power system for wearable devices, enabling significantly accelerated wound healing through electrical stimulation over the epidermal wounds. This work sheds light on hydrogel electrolytes design for long‐life aqueous zinc‐based batteries, with great potential as power systems for wearable and implantable devices.

Abstract:Flexible zinc-ion batteries have garnered significant attention in the realm of wearable technology. However, the instability of hydrogel electrolytes in a wide-temperature range and uncontrollable side reactions of the Zn electrode have become the main problems for practical applications. Herein, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) to design a binary solvent (H2O-DMF) is introduced and combined it with polyacrylamide (PAM) and ZnSO4 to synthesize a hydrogel electrolyte (denoted as PZD). The synergistic effect of DMF and PAM not only guides Zn2+ deposition on Zn(002) crystal plane and isolates H2O from the Zn anode, but also breaks the hydrogen bonding network between water to improve the wide-temperature range stability of hydrogel electrolytes. Consequently, the symmetric cell utilizing PZD can stably cycle over 5600 h at 0.5 mA cm- 2@0.5 mAh cm-2. Furthermore, the Zn//PZD//MnO2 full cell exhibits favorable wide-temperature range adaptability (for 16000 cycles at 3 A g-1 under 25 °C, 750 cycles with 98 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 under -20 °C) and outstanding mechanical properties (for lighting up the LEDs under conditions of pressure, bending, cutting, and puncture). This work proposes a useful modification for designing a high-performance hydrogel electrolyte, which provides a reference for investigating the practical flexible aqueous batteries.

Abstract:Flexible zinc-air batteries (ZABs) have gained much more attention due to their high specific capacity, low cost and safety. However, conventional hydrogel electrolytes exhibit poor mechanical properties and unstable structures. Herein, we developed a series of dual cross-linked high-performance hydrogel electrolytes for flexible and rechargeable batteries, which were prepared by acrylamide (AM), cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), dextran (DEX), polyethylene glycol of average molar weight 400 (PEG400). The DEX and epichlorohydrin (ECH) reactions established the second crosslinking network. Benefiting from the unique chemical structure and the incorporation of PEG400, the hydrogel electrolyte exhibited high ionic conductivity of 315 mS cm −1 , excellent mechanical strength, and superior water retention capacities. The fabricated flexible ZABs delivered a long discharge time of 56 h and a long cycling lifetime of 72 h. In addition, the battery retained excellent electrochemical properties over a wide operating temperature range (−20 °C to 60 °C) and had satisfactory environment adaptability in severe conditions. Furthermore, two ZABs connected in series provided continuous power to Light Emitting Diode (LED) and electronic timers in harsh environments. However, ZABs prepared with conventional hydrogel electrolytes demonstrate a short cycling lifetime and bad practicality under extreme environments. This study provides a novel strategy for preparing and optimizing hydrogel electrolytes and can promote the development of ZABs to be adopted in various scenarios.

Abstract:As a potential material to solve rampant dendrites and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) problem of aqueous zinc metal batteries (AZMB), hydrogel electrolytes usually require additional additives or multi‐molecular network strategies to solve existing problems of ionic conductivity, mechanical properties and interface stability. However, the intrinsic zincophilic properties of the gel itself are widely neglected leading to the addition of additional molecules and the complexity of the preparation process. In this work, we innovatively utilize the characteristics of acrylamide's high zincophilic group density, activating the intrinsic zincophilic properties of PAM gel through a simple concentration control strategy which reconstructs a novel zinc‐electrolyte interface different from conventional PAM electrolyte. The activated novel gel electrolyte with intrinsic zincophilic properties has high ionic conductivity and effectively suppresses water activity, thereby inhibiting HER corrosion. Meanwhile, it induces uniform deposition of (002) crystal planes, leading to excellent deposition kinetics and long cycle life, thereby ensuring high interfacial stability. Compared with conventional PAM gel electrolytes, the activated zincophilic group‐rich hydrogel maintained excellent cycling stability (1 mA/cm2, 1 mAh/cm2) over 2250 hours; The Zn//MnO2 coin cell using novel zincophilic group ‐rich hydrogel still retains a high specific capacity of more than 170mAh/g at 0.5 A/g after 1000 cycles.

Salting-Out Effect Realizing High-Strength and Dendrite-Inhibiting Cellulose Hydrogel Electrolyte for Durable Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries are limited by poor Zn stripping/plating reversibility. Not only can hydrogel electrolytes address this issue, but also they are suitable for constructing flexible batteries. However, there exists a contradiction between the mechanical strength and the ionic conductivity for hydrogel electrolytes. Herein, high-concentration kosmotropic ions are introduced into the cellulose hydrogel electrolyte to take advantage of the salting-out effect. This can significantly improve both the mechanical strength and ionic conductivity. Additionally, the obtained cellulose hydrogel electrolyte (denoted as Con-CMC) has strong adhesion, a wide electrochemical stability window, and good water retaining ability. The Con-CMC is also found to accelerate the desolvation process, improve Zn deposition kinetics, promote Zn deposition along the (002) plane, and suppress parasitic reactions. Accordingly, the Zn/Zn cell with Con-CMC demonstrates dendrite-free behavior with prolonged lifespan and can endure extremely large areal capacity of 25 mAh cm-2. The Con-CMC also enables a large average Coulombic efficiency of 99.54% over 500 cycles for the Zn/Cu cell. Furthermore, the assembled pouch-type Zn/polyaniline full battery provides great rate capability, superior cyclability (even with limited Zn anode excess), a slow self-discharge rate, and outstanding affordability to external forces. Overall, this work extends our knowledge of the rational design of hydrogel electrolytes.

Abstract:The hydrogel electrolyte with excellent mechanical and electrochemical properties is obtained by constructing a zincophilic "chain‐gear" network, simultaneously realizing the rapid transport of zinc ions. In this way, the flexible battery which still works stably under external force is assembled. As a promising energy storage device, an aqueous zinc ion battery (AZIB) still suffers dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution, and corrosion. Hydrogel electrolyte solves the above issues to some extent. Nevertheless, the mechanical properties of most hydrogel electrolytes are not competitive enough to meet booming demand for flexible electronics. In this work, a robust "chain‐gear" hydrogel electrolyte (PM‐HE) crosslinked by polymeric micelles (PMs) is constructed, in which PMs serve as "gears" and form "chain‐gear" structure with polyanion chains. Specifically, "gears" support molecular chains, constructing hierarchically porous structures and opening up paths for Zn2+. Apart from as crosslinkers, PMs exist competitive mechanism with polyanion chains to promote ion decoupling. Such a "chain‐gear" structure can realize desolvation and accelerate ion transport. Thereby, PM‐HE possesses excellent ionic conductivity (60.6 mS cm−1) and ultrahigh transference number (0.88). Symmetrical cells can realize stable cycling over 1500 h with Zn uniform deposition. Remarkably, PM‐HE has excellent tensile (0.23 MPa) and compressive (11.3 MPa) properties profited from strengthening and toughening effect of PMs. The flexible battery can supply power stably under harsh conditions. This work proposes the strategy of constructing an all‐around hydrogel electrolyte based on reasonable design in network structure, providing more possibilities for the practical application of flexible AZIB.

Abstract:Hydrogel electrolytes have been extensively developed for flexible zinc-ion batteries (FZIBs) owing to their rich ion transfer channels, mechanical stability and intrinsic safety. However, single ion regulation in traditional hydrogel electrolytes still remains a great challenge to effectively inhibit the growth of Zn dendrites and the occurrence of side reactions, leading to limited performance levels in FZIBs. To address this, herein, a unique electron/ion dual regulation mechanism is established in a well-designed hydrogel electrolyte by integrating a polyacrylamide (PAM) network and carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) for high-performance and stable FZIBs. The negatively charged carbonyl groups within PAM chains and the high conductivity of MWCNTs trigger an associated synergistic regulation mechanism to achieve a uniform ionic/electronic field for highly reversible Zn anodes. As a result, the well-designed hydrogel electrolyte shows a high Zn 2+ ion transference number of 0.712 and a high ionic conductivity of 22.02 mS cm −1 at room temperature as well as high battery performance, including a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.2%, over 3600 h of lifespan, and superior mechanical/electrochemical stability for flexible Zn//MnO 2 pouch cells. This electron/ion dual regulation strategy to challenge traditional hydrogel electrolytes and aqueous Zn chemistry may open up a new avenue for building better FZIBs and beyond.

An Ultrahigh‐Modulus Hydrogel Electrolyte for Dendrite‐Free Zinc Ion Batteries

Abstract:Ultra‐tough hydrogel electrolytes with hydrophobic domains (established through dipole‐dipole interactions) and crystalline domains (formed via hydrogen bonds) are obtained by a strategy combining wet‐annealing, solvent‐exchange, and salting‐out processes. The synergy between nanoscale phase separation and high crystallinity results in the hydrogel electrolytes with excellent mechanical properties while maintaining high water contents. Quasi‐solid‐state aqueous zinc ion batteries suffer from anodic zinc dendrite growth during plating/stripping processes, impeding their commercial application. The inhibition of zinc dendrites by high‐modulus electrolytes has been proven to be effective. However, hydrogel electrolytes are difficult to achieve high modulus owing to their inherent high water contents. This work reports a hydrogel electrolyte with ultrahigh modulus that can overcome the growth stress of zinc dendrites through mechanical suppression effect. By combining wet‐annealing, solvent‐exchange, and salting‐out processes and tuning the hydrophobic and crystalline domains, a hydrogel electrolyte is obtained with substantial water content (≈70%), high modulus (198.5 MPa), high toughness (274.3 MJ m−3), and high zinc‐ion conductivity (28.9 mS cm−1), which significantly outperforms the previously reported poly(vinyl alcohol)‐based hydrogels. As a result, the hydrogel electrolyte exhibits excellent dendrite‐suppression effect and achieves stable performance in Zn||Zn symmetric batteries (1800 h of cycle life at 1 mA cm−2). Moreover, the Zn||V2O5 pouch batteries display excellent cycling life and operate stably even under extreme conditions, such as large bending angle (180°) and automotive crushing. This work provides a promising approach for designing mechanically reliable hydrogel electrolytes for advanced aqueous zinc ion batteries.

Anti-freezing hydrogel electrolyte with a regulated hydrogen bond network enables high-rate and long cycling zinc batteries

Abstract:Zinc-based batteries utilizing hydrogel electrolytes present significant promise as power sources for next-generation flexible devices owing to their stretchable nature and enhanced safety features. Nonetheless, the current hydrogel electrolytes require improvements in terms of cycling stability and rate capability. In this study, 1,2-propylene glycol is added as a cosolvent to polyacrylamide hydrogel electrolytes. The cosolvent effectively modulates the internal hydrogen bond network of the hydrogel through hydroxyl and terminal methyl groups, inhibits the activity of water while preventing the solvent from forming a "hand-in-hand" long-chain molecular structure, and enhances the stability of the electrode/electrolyte interface. Consequently, a symmetrical battery assembled with PAM-1,2-PG exhibited a stable cycling performance of over 490 h at 100 mA cm −2 and 50 mA h cm −2 (DOD of 86%). A change in the hydrogen bond network endows the battery with remarkable low-temperature performance of more than 3780 h under −30 °C at 1 mA cm −2 . Furthermore, the resulting aqueous zinc-based devices showcase high capacity and outstanding cycling durability in a wide temperature range. This work provides valuable insights into the development of high-performance hydrogel electrolytes, paving the way for dendrite-free, fast-charging, and environmentally adaptable Zn-based energy storage systems.

Cation-Conduction Dominated Hydrogels for Durable Zinc-Iodine Batteries

Abstract:Zinc-iodine batteries have the potential to offer high energy-density aqueous energy storage, but their lifetime is limited by the rampant dendrite growth and the concurrent parasite side reactions on the Zn anode, as well as the shuttling of polyiodides. Herein, a cation-conduction dominated hydrogel electrolyte is designed to holistically enhance the stability of both zinc anode and iodine cathode. In this hydrogel electrolyte, anions are covalently anchored on hydrogel chains, and the major mobile ions in the electrolyte are restricted to be Zn2+. Specifically, such a cation-conductive electrolyte results in a high zinc ion transference number (0.81) within the hydrogel and guides epitaxial Zn nucleation. Furthermore, the optimized Zn2+ solvation structure and the reconstructed hydrogen bond networks on hydrogel chains contribute to the reduced desolvation barrier and suppressed corrosion side reactions. On the iodine cathode side, the electrostatic repulsion between negative sulfonate groups and polyiodides hinders the loss of the iodine active material. This all-round electrolyte design renders zinc-iodine batteries with high reversibility, low self-discharge, and long lifespan.
Interpenetrating Composite Hydrogel Electrolyte with Organic/Inorganic Polar Groups for Stable Zinc Metal Anode

Abstract:Hydrogel electrolytes have been widely explored in flexible zinc batteries owing to their considerable mechanical strain and water-retaining properties. However, it is difficult to balance the contradiction between the ionic conductivity and the mechanical strength due to the deterioration of structural stability with the addition of electrolyte salts. To address this, we designed a coassembling organic-inorganic hydrogel (P-P/M) based on poly(vinyl alcohol)-polyacrylamide (P-P) interpenetrating matrix decorated with Zn-based montmorillonite (Zn-MMT). The Zn-MMT with overall negative potential can attract and regulate the transport of Zn2+, while the Brønsted/Lewis acid sites with positive polarizations offer anchoring sites for anions, which increases the cation transference number and reduces byproduct formation. Moreover, the formation of hydrogen bonds in the hydrogel can weaken the contact between free water molecules and the zinc cations, which effectively suppresses the corrosion of zinc foil. Consequently, the Zn//Zn cell with P-P/M electrolyte delivers a long cycle life of 2400 h at 0.5 mA cm-2. The good mechanical properties of the P-P/M hydrogel boost its application in flexible pouch cells even under bending and cutting conditions. This study provides an effective approach to designing organic-inorganic hydrogel electrolytes for long-life flexible zinc batteries.

Abstract:Flexible and high-performance aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs), coupled with low cost and safe, are considered as one of the most promising energy storage candidates for wearable electronics. However, most of hydrogel electrolytes suffer from poor mechanical properties and interfacial chemistry, which limits them to suppressed performance levels in flexible ZIBs, especially under harsh mechanical strains. Herein, a bio-inspired multifunctional hydrogel electrolyte network (polyacrylamide (PAM)/trehalose) with improved mechanical and adhesive properties was developed via a simple trehalose network-repairing strategy to stabilize the interfacial chemistry for highly reversible flexible ZIBs. As a result, the trehalose-modified PAM hydrogel exhibits a superior strength and stretchability up to 100 kPa and 5338%, respectively, as well as strong adhesive properties to various substrates. Also, the PAM/trehalose hydrogel electrolyte provides superior anti-corrosion capability for Zn anode and regulates Zn nucleation/growth, resulting in achieving a high Coulombic efficiency of 98.8%, and long-term stability over 2400 h. Importantly, the flexible Zn//MnO2 pouch cell exhibits excellent cycling performance under different bending conditions, which offers a great potential in flexible energy-related applications and beyond.
Flexible and Stable N-Isopropylacrylamide/Sodium Alginate Gel Electrolytes for Aqueous Zn-MNO2 Batteries

Abstract:Rechargeable aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs) have attracted considerable attention owing to their high theoretical capacity of 820 mA h g−1, low cost and intrinsic safety. However, the electrolyte leakage and the instability issues of Zn negative electrodes originating from side reactions between the aqueous electrolyte and Zn negative electrode not only restrict the battery stability, but also result in the short circuit of aqueous ZIBs. Herein, we report a flexible and stable N-isopropylacrylamide/sodium alginate (N-SA) gel electrolyte, which possesses high mechanical strength and high ionic conductivity of 2.96 × 10−2 S cm−1, and enables the Zn metal negative electrode and MnO2 positive electrode to reversibly and stably cycle. Compared to the liquid electrolyte, the N-SA hydrogel electrolyte can effectively form a uniform Zn deposition and suppress the generation of irreversible by-products. The assembled symmetric Zn/Zn cells at a current density of 1 mA cm−2 (capacity: 1 mAh cm−2) show a stable voltage profile, which maintains a low level of about 100 mV over 2600 h without an obvious short circuit or any overpotential increasing. Specially, the assembled Zn/N-SA/MnO2 batteries can deliver a high specific capacity of 182 mAh g−1 and maintain 98% capacity retention after 650 cycles at 0.5 A g−1. This work provides a simple method to fabricate high-performance SA-based hydrogel electrolytes, which illustrates their potential for flexible batteries for wearable electronics.

Abstract:Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are usually deployed in the work area for a long time, but most key managements are not stable enough that brings great threats to the WSNs. In this paper a multi-phase key pre-distribution scheme based on hash chain (HM scheme) is proposed in which the work time is divided into phases with different key matrixes to guarantee the safety of WSNs. Simulation results prove that HM scheme performs with perfect stability even though the nodes change greatly.

Abstract:A new initiator system as cross‐linking function is proposed to make a low‐concentration hydrogel polyelectrolyte that exhibits improved tolerance to high voltage by in situ formation of interphases. The assembled pouch cell can operate stably at 0.2–2.7 V, delivering high energy density. To maximize energy output, aqueous zinc‐based batteries are pushed to extreme potentials far beyond thermodynamic stability limit of aqueous electrolytes. Interphases at interfaces of electrodes/electrolytes are needed to make aqueous batteries stable and reversible kinetically. The absence of interphases at interfaces of hydrogel/electrodes severely impedes aqueous batteries operating in extreme potentials, although low‐concentration hydrogels are regarded as promising polyelectrolytes. Herein, a type of initiator system as cross‐linking agent is developed that makes hydrogel polyelectrolyte spontaneously in situ form interphases at 25 °C and darkness. This widens the electrochemical stability window of hydrogel polyelectrolyte to above 3.5 V. Also, the initiator system makes the designed hydrogel become a single ion conductor, increasing ionic conductivity to ≈280 mS cm−1. This hydrogel pushes a zinc//LiMn2O4 pouch cell to operate stably in a voltage window of 0.2 to 2.7 V and deliver high energy densities (e.g., 471 Wh kgLiMn2O4−1 at 2.2 mgLiMn2O4 cm−2; 203 Wh kgLiMn2O4−1, 7.1 mgLiMn2O4 cm−2) and excellent rate capabilities (e.g., 410 mAh g−1 at 0.11 C, 50 mAh g−1 at 57 C, 2.2 mgLiMn2O4 cm−2; 175 mAh g−1 at 0.7 C, 70 mAh g−1 at 7.5 C, and 7.1 mgLiMn2O4 cm−2).

Abstract:Highlights A sustainable dual cross-linked cellulose hydrogel with excellent mechanical strength was fabricated from aqueous alkali hydroxide/urea solution using a sequential chemical and physical cross-linking strategy. The hydrogel electrolyte effectively suppresses dendrites growth and side reactions to achieve a stable Zn anode (over 2000 h for Zn||Zn cell), which are proved by a multi-perspective and in-depth mechanism investigation. The hydrogel electrolyte is easily accessible and biodegradable, making the zinc batteries attractive in terms of scalability and sustainability.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) suffer from dendrite growth, hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and cathode dissolution. To overcome the above issues, we designed a single Zn2+ conductor hydrogel electrolyte (poly 3-sulfopropyl acrylate zinc, PSPAZn) through UV photopolymerization of the designed monomer zinc salt of SPAZn. The polymerized and fixed anion chains with single Zn2+-conducting characteristics not only promote the uniform distribution of Zn2+ ion flux by charge interaction but also decrease the concentration polarization, leading to nondendrite Zn deposition behavior. Meanwhile, the water activity is significantly reduced due to abundant hydrophilic groups in polymer side chains, effectively inhibiting HER and the dissolution of cathode materials. Consequently, the lifespan of a zinc anode with PSPAZn electrolyte is extended to more than 3000 h, and the Zn/MnO2 full ZIBs also exhibit a high capacity retention of 77.1% after 220 cycles without MnSO4 additive. Such a simple kilogram-scale preparation strategy should offer opportunities for developing practical ZIBs.

Abstract:Co‐nonsolvency and "salting‐out" are synergistically utilized to create a flexible electrolyte with superior strength, freezing tolerance, high mass transport (10× lower overpotential over semi‐closed‐pore counterparts), and stable cycling, benefitting from the suppressed dendritic growth and side reactions (30 000 cycles), which pushes the limit of flexible batteries toward higher stability in harsh environments. As the soaring demand for energy storage continues to grow, batteries that can cope with extreme conditions are highly desired. Yet, existing battery materials are limited by weak mechanical properties and freeze‐vulnerability, prohibiting safe energy storage in devices that are exposed to low temperature and unusual mechanical impacts. Herein, a fabrication method harnessing the synergistic effect of co‐nonsolvency and "salting‐out" that can produce poly(vinyl alcohol) hydrogel electrolytes with unique open‐cell porous structures, composed of strongly aggregated polymer chains, and containing disrupted hydrogen bonds among free water molecules, is introduced.
