Abstract:To determine the skeletal changes after midface surgery in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis who underwent Le Fort III (LFIII), monobloc (MB), or facial bipartition (FB). This was a retrospective study including 75 patients: 33 treated by LFIII, 29 by MB, and 13 by FB. Twenty-five had a diagnosis of Apert, 39 Crouzon, and 11 craniofrontonasal syndrome. A three-dimensional mesh was created from the preoperative scan and registered to the postoperative scan to visualise the advancement. LFIII at age 7–12 years effectuated a higher mean advancement in the maxillary (15.5 mm) and zygomatic (7.6 mm) regions when compared to ≥13 years (10.2 mm and 5.5 mm). After MB, mean advancement of the fronto-orbital region was higher at <7 years (16.4 mm), and similarly lower at ages 7–12 (13.8 mm) and ≥13 (12.5 mm). The mean preoperative inter-dacryon distance (34.4 ± 4.4 mm) was reduced by 8.7 ± 4.2 mm after FB without distraction ( n = 10). More advancement was seen when midface surgery was performed at a younger age, due to more severe cases and a desire for overcorrection. The highest mean advancement was observed in the fronto-orbital region. Antero-inferior rotational movement was seen after all three techniques.

Long-Term Orbito-ocular Outcomes Following LeFort III and Monobloc Distraction Osteogenesis in Patients with Syndromic Craniosynostosis

Abstract:Introduction: Exorbitism in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis is often managed by LeFort III (LF3) or Monobloc (MB) distraction osteogenesis (DO). This study compared short- and long-term orbital craniometrics after LF3DO/MBDO and related these findings to symptom relief. Methods: Patients undergoing LF3DO or MBDO from 2000-2021 with pre- and postoperative imaging were included. Postoperative CTs were categorized as early ( 1 year), and age-matched control CTs were compared to late postoperative scans. Superior/inferior orbital rim position, relative globe position, and orbital volume were analyzed. Symptoms were assessed by a patient-reported outcome (PRO) analysis. Results: Thirty-four patients (16 LF3DO, 18 MBDO) were matched by age at surgery, sex, syndrome, and age at imaging. Time to late CT was 6.2 years (LF3DO) and 7.5 years (MBDO). Between early and late postoperative time points, LF3DO patients experienced no change in inferior rim position. MBDO patients experienced a decrease in inferior orbital rim position of 4.7mm (p=0.005), but superior orbital rim distance remained stable. Comparison of late scans and age-matched controls revealed no difference in inferior or superior orbital rim position in LF3DO patients, but the superior orbital rim distance was longer in MBDO patients (p=0.015). PRO response rate was 76% with a median follow up of 13.7 years. Most (81%) symptomatic patients improved, 19% remained symptomatic, and no patients worsened. Conclusions: LF3DO and MBDO achieved stable orbital craniometric changes, with improved stability at the inferior orbital rim after LF3DO. Craniometric changes were associated with long-term exorbitism symptom relief.

A haematological disorder should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the cause of pseudotumour cerebri, and the treatment of pseudotumour cerebri should be considered in the management of haematological disease, especially in avoiding irreversible visual deficit.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the time and postoperative binocular vision of strabismus surgery for children with intermittent exotropia (X(T)). Methods: A retrospective investigation was conducted in 80 child patients with intermittent exotropia. Pre- and postoperative angles of deviation fixating at near (33 cm) and distant targets (6 m) were measured with the prolonged alternate cover testing. The binocular function was assessed with synoptophore. Twenty-one patients took the postoperative synoptophore exercise. Results: (1) A week after surgery, 96.2% of the 80 patients had binocular normotopia, while a year after surgery, 91.3% of the 80 patients had binocular normotopia; (2) Preoperatively, 58 patients had near stereoacuity, while postoperatively, 72 patients achieved near stereoacuity (P < 0.05); (3) Preoperatively, 64 patients had Grade I for the synoptophore evaluation and postoperatively, 76 patients achieved Grade I. Meanwhile, 55 patients had Grade II preoperatively and 72 achieved Grade II postoperatively. For Grade III, there were 49 patients preoperatively and 64 patients postoperatively (P < 0.05); (4) Patients of 5-8 years old had a significantly better recovery rate of binocular vision than those of 9-18 years old (P < 0.05); (5) Patients taking postoperative synoptophore exercise had a better binocular vision than those taking no exercise (P < 0.05). Conclusions: (1) Strabismus surgery can help to preserve or restore the binocular vision for intermittent exotropia; (2) Receiving the surgery at young ages may develop better postoperative binocular vision; (3) The postoperative synoptophore exercise can help to restore the binocular vision.
The Kaleidoscope of Midface Management in Apert Syndrome: A 23-Year Single-Institution Experience

Abstract:Background: This study assesses operative trends over time and outcomes of five osteotomy techniques used to treat the Apert midface. Using clinical and photogrammetric data, we present our institution’s selection rationale for correcting specific dysmorphologies of the Apert midface based on the individual phenotype. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with Apert syndrome who underwent midface distraction from 2000 to 2023. Patients were temporally divided by the year 2012 to assess differences in surgical approach. Postoperative facial dimension changes, surgical and perioperative characteristics, and complications data were compared across techniques. Results: Thirty-nine patients with Apert syndrome underwent 41 midface distraction procedures: 23 (56%) in the early cohort and 18 (44%) in the late cohort. The use of segmental osteotomies for frontofacial advancement increased from 0% before 2012 to 61% from 2012 onwards ( p <0.001). Monobloc with bipartition was the only technique that decreased intercanthal distance ( p =0.016), and Le Fort II with zygomatic repositioning achieved the greatest median change in bilateral canthal tilt of 8.7° (IQR 1.3°, 8.7°; p =0.068). Monobloc with Le Fort II achieved the greatest median change in facial convexity of -34.9° (IQR -43.3°, -29.2°; p =0.031). Severity of complications, stratified by Clavien-Dindo grade, was greater in transcranial than subcranial procedures but similar between segmental and non-segmental osteotomies ( p =0.365). Conclusions: In studying the Apert midface and attempting to resolve its varying functional and aesthetic issues, we document an evolution towards multi-piece osteotomies over time. With an appreciation for differential midface hypoplasia, segmentation is associated with more effective normalization of the Apert face.

Abstract:AimsTo establish the impact of adult strabismus surgery on clinical and psychosocial well-being and determine who experiences the greatest benefit from surgery and how one could intervene to improve quality of life post-surgery.MethodsA longitudinal study, with measurements taken pre-surgery and at 3 and 6 months post-surgery. All participants completed the AS-20 a disease specific quality of life scale, along with measures of mood, strabismus and appearance-related beliefs and cognitions and perceived social support. Participants also underwent a full orthoptic assessment at their preoperative visit and again 3 months postoperatively. Clinical outcomes of surgery were classified as success, partial success or failure, using the largest angle of deviation, diplopia and requirement for further therapy.Results210 participants took part in the study. Strabismus surgery led to statistically significant improvements in psychosocial and functional quality of life. Those whose surgery was deemed a partial success did however experience a deterioration in quality of life. A combination of clinical variables, high expectations, and negative beliefs about the illness and appearance pre-surgery were significant predictors of change in quality of life from pre- to post-surgery.ConclusionsStrabismus surgery leads to significant improvements in quality of life up to 6 months postoperatively. There are however a group of patients who do not experience these benefits. A series of clinical and psychosocial factors have now been identified, which will enable clinicians to identify patients who may be vulnerable to poorer outcomes post-surgery and allow for the development of interventions to improve quality of life after surgery.

Congenital anophthalmia and microphthalmia: epidemiology and orbitofacial rehabilitation

Abstract:Objective: To describe the prevalence of congenital anophthalmia and microphthalmia in Hospital Universitario La Paz, and to identify associated risk factors and evaluate cosmetic results in treated and nontreated patients. Methods: A retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study of patients treated with orbital expanding techniques (cases) and nontreated patients (controls) was carried out as a comparative case series study. A total of 36 patients with unilateral or bilateral anophthalmia or microphthalmia as main diagnosis were included; 52 epidemiological and management variables for each patient were analyzed. The study evaluated orbital growth and facial symmetry. Results: The overall cosmetic result in the study's group of patients was satisfactory: 66.7% showed good or very good orbital growth, and 75% showed good or very good facial symmetry. Controls had better cosmetic outcome but showed more cataracts (P = 0.05), inferior colobomas (P = 0.026), and family history (P = 0.056) than the cases. Controls also showed significantly better orbital growth (P = 0.042) and facial symmetry (P = 0.014) than the cases. Conclusion: This study suggests that the mere presence of a globe (controls) still provides better orbitofacial development than the artificial stimulation (cases) currently available for patients with congenital anophthalmia and microphthalmia, who receive internal and external orbital rehabilitation.
Three-dimensional assessment of facial asymmetry in Class III subjects. Part 1: a retrospective study evaluating postsurgical outcomes

Abstract:Objective: The present study aimed to determine the site and severity of maxillomandibular asymmetry before and after orthognathic surgery in asymmetric patients. Materials and methods: Presurgery and postsurgery cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data of 21 facial asymmetry patients (7 males and 14 females, mean age: 23.0 ± 3.36 years) with soft tissue chin deviation ≥ 3 mm who had undergone bimaxillary surgery were evaluated. Seven midline and twenty bilateral hard tissue landmarks were identified for the evaluation of facial asymmetry and outcomes were assessed against age- and gender-matched control subjects. Results: In the asymmetry group, bilateral landmarks exhibited significant deviation in the mandible and midface regions. Before surgery, asymmetry was more severe at the mandibular midline and sites close to it, in the asymmetry group. Bimaxillary surgery proved to be highly effective, with a significant correction of the menton to a clinically normal value (2.90 mm, p < 0.001). After surgery, significant residual asymmetry was observed at the mental foramen (p = 0.001) in the R-L direction. Moreover, significant asymmetry persisted at the sigmoid notch (p = 0.001) in the S-I direction. Conclusions: Mandibular midline landmarks and chin peripheral regions contribute significantly to overall facial asymmetry characteristics. Despite significant correction after bimaxillary surgery, asymmetry persisted at several sites, thereby requiring secondary correction. Comprehensive 3D presurgical planning is central for asymmetry correction in a single surgery. Clinical relevance: The present study specifies the location of residual asymmetry sites and advocates the correction of those sites during initial surgery.

Abstract:Purpose: The aim of this study was to show the displacements and strain induced by the supraorbital band advancement during a craniofacial surgery for an anterior plagiocephaly on the orbital bones and the orbital content thanks to a numerical surgical simulation using the finite element method. Methods: A three-dimensional (3D) finite element model of a child with an anterior plagiocephaly was entirely created from a tomodensitometry of a patient followed by our Craniofacial Pediatric team. Data of the tomodensitometry were computed with Slicer 3D to re-create the orbit geometry. Mesh production, properties of the model, and simulations of the fronto-orbital advancement were conducted on Hyperworks software (Altair Engineering, Inc., Detroit, MI, USA). Results: The resulting 3D Finite Element Model was used to perform the supraorbital advancement simulation. Displacement and strain patterns were studied for orbital bones, oculomotor muscles, and eyeballs. Relative high strain in the both trochlear area and excycloration of the right orbit are among the most interesting results as torsional strabismus as V-pattern strabismus are often described in children with an anterior plagiocephaly. Conclusions: This pediatric Finite-Element Model of both orbits of a child with an anterior plagiocephaly showed the impact of the fronto-orbital advancement on the oculomotor system. This model described the relationship between the craniofacial surgery and the strabismus in the unilateral coronal synostosis. The advantages of this model are the many opportunities for improvement, including postoperative period and additional surgical procedures.

Abstract:The Cleft Palate Craniofacial Journal, Ahead of Print. ObjectiveThe influence of different surgical techniques on maxillary growth remains unclear. This study investigates the long-term impact of Furlow double-opposing Z-plasty versus straight-line repair (SLR) techniques on midface growth and subsequent orthognathic surgery.DesignRetrospective cohort study.SettingTertiary children's hospital.Patients/participantsThis study evaluated patients who underwent primary palatoplasty with Furlow or SLR techniques from 1994–2023. Patients were >14 years old at their most recent follow-up.InterventionsNo interventions were performed.Main Outcome Measure(s)Primary outcomes were orthognathic surgery and orthognathic surgery recommendation rates to correct midface hypoplasia (MFH). Cephalometrics at the time of orthognathic surgery recommendation were traced to validate MFH.ResultsIn total, 1857 patients underwent palatoplasty, of which 335 met inclusion criteria (49 SLR, 286 Furlow). Average age at last follow-up was 18.5±2.6 years. Patients who underwent Furlow versus SLR showed no significant difference in orthognathic surgery rates (p=0.428) or recommendation for orthognathic surgery rates (p=0.900). Patients recommended to undergo orthognathic surgery had more negative ANB angles (p<0.001) and smaller SNA angles (p<0.001) than patients not recommended for orthognathic surgery, demonstrating maxillary hypoplasia. Upon multivariate regression, patients with Veau III and IV clefts had an increased need for orthognathic surgery, p=0.047 and p=0.008, respectively.ConclusionsOur findings suggest that higher cleft severity contributes to future orthognathic surgery. However, palatoplasty technique did not influence orthognathic surgery rates. Our results provide valuable data when surgeons are considering the impact of palatoplasty technique on sagittal growth restriction.

Single Stage Surgical Outcomes for Large Angle Intermittent Exotropia

Abstract:Although there were many prior studies about exotropia, few focused on large-angle intermittent exotropia. The goal of this study was to evaluate single-stage surgical outcomes for large-angle intermittent exotropia and analyze risk factors that may affect the success of surgery. Records from intermittent exotropia patients with exodeviations >60 prism diopters(PD) who were surgically treated at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, of Sun Yat-Sen University were reviewed. Included within this review were data on, pre- and post-operative ocular motility, primary alignment, binocular vision and complications. Patients with exodeviations ≤70PD received two-muscle surgery, while those with exodeviations >70PD were subjected to a three-muscle procedure. A total of 40 records were reviewed. The mean exodeviation was 73±9PD at distance and 75±26PD at near. There were 25 patients received two-muscle surgery and 15 the three-muscle procedure. Orthophoria (deviation within 8PD) was obtained in 77.5% of these patients and the ratios of surgical under-correction and over-correction were 15% and 7.5% respectively. However, when combining ocular alignment with binocular vision as the success criteria, success rates decreased to 30%. No statistically significant differences in success rates were obtained between the two- and three-muscle surgery groups. Seven subjects experienced an abduction deficit during the initial postoperative stages, but eventually showed a full recovery. One patient required a second surgery for overcorrection. No statistically significant risk factors for poor outcome were revealed. Our data showed that single-stage two- and three-muscle surgeries for large-angle intermittent exotropia are effective in achieving a favorable outcome.
Clinical effect of endoscopic-assisted intraoral reduction mandibuloplasty

Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical effect of endoscopic-assisted intraoral reduction mandibuloplasty.Methods From January 2010 to December 2014,a total of 186 patients with prominent mandibular angles underwent one stage long-curved ostectomy combined with splitting corticectomy through an intraoral approach with endoscopic assistence according to preoperative design for reduction mandible three-dimensionally,and achieved reduced width of the lower face with smooth curve of mandibular edge.The distance between both gonions was measured and the complications recorded to evaluate the clinical effect of the surgery during follow-up.Results All the 186 patients had no complications of bleeding and infection.The mean distance between both gonions measurement was (117.3±2.5) mm before surgery and (102.6±2.3) mm after operation;it was reduced (14.1 ±2.4)mm.After 1 month to 2 years of follow up,the width of the lower face was reduced in the frontal view and the mandibular angle appeared natural and inconspicuous in the lateral view.The patients were satisfied with both their frontal and lateral appearances.Conclusions Intraoral approach mandibular ostectomy with endoscopic-assisted allows surgeons to perform accurate,safe and reproducible ostectomies and to recontour mandible symmetrically and reduce the complications.

Abstract:Purpose: To describe the surgical procedure in correcting Class III patients with long face problems and to evaluate the lateral cephalometric changes resulting from surgical-orthodontic treatment.Patients and Methods: Thirty-six Chinese Class III patients with long face problems (14 male, 22 female, with a mean age 24.3 years) were selected in this study. All patients underwent bimaxillary surgery. The surgical approach involved advancement and superior repositioning (greater anteriorly than posteriorly) of the maxilla to permit autorotation and subsequent setback of the mandible. Lateral cephalometric records were taken before the presurgical orthodontic treatment (T1) and after the postsurgical orthodontic treatment (T2). The data were analyzed statistically by using paired t tests.Results: Anteroposterior and vertical dysplasia were corrected by the surgery. Horizontalization of the occlusal plane was obtained and the gonial angle was closed. The S-Go/N-Me increased 2% (P < .01), whereas ANS-Me/N-Me displayed no significant difference.Conclusions: The surgical procedure makes it possible to obtain an optimal esthetic and functional result in cases of Class III long face patients. Self-grading effect of inferior oblique myectomy and recession

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of inferior oblique (IO) weakening surgery, whether recession or myectomy, and to assess the dose-response relationship and correlation with angle of preoperative hypertropia. Methods: The medical records of all patients with vertical deviation in primary gaze who underwent unilateral IO-weakening surgery, either recession or myectomy, at Boston Children's Hospital over an 8-year period with a minimum postoperative follow-up of 1 month were reviewed retrospectively. Outcome measures were effect of IO weakening surgery on vertical deviation in primary gaze and its correlation with the preoperative angle of hyperdeviation. Secondary outcomes included resolution of abnormal head posture, reduction of ocular torsion, and postoperative under- and overcorrection. Results: A total of 94 patients were identified (mean age at surgery, 29.3 ± 19.8 years; range, 1-69). The mean postoperative follow-up period was 17.2 ± 15 months. IO recession was performed in 30 patients; IO myectomy, in 64. Surgical success in primary position was achieved in 72 patients (77%), with resolution of anomalous preoperative head posture in 93%. The mean effect on alignment in primary position was 11.3Δ ± 6.8Δ. The response to IO-weakening surgery was strongly correlated with the preoperative hyperdeviation for both recession (R2 = 0.53) and myectomy (R2 = 0.87). Conclusions: As with other types of strabismus surgery, IO weakening has a "self-grading" contribution, in which the surgical effect strongly correlates with the magnitude of preoperative deviation. A large range of vertical misalignment can be corrected with the same surgical approach.

Abstract:Objective: To study the clinical effect of conjoint fascial sheath (CFS) suspension and levator palpebrae superioris muscle shortening in the treatment of severe blepharoptosis. Methods: Forty-five patients with severe blepharoptosis (75 eyes) from May 2020 to February 2022 in the authors' hospital were divided into 2 groups: group A (n = 33, 43 eyes) and group B (n = 24, 32 eyes). Group A was operated on by CFS + levator muscle shortening, and group B was operated on by frontal muscle flap suspension + levator muscle shortening. Both groups were followed up for 12 months (until February 2023). The clinical effect was counted in 6 months after operation, the early complications were counted in 1 month after operation, and the late complications were counted in 1 month to 12 months after operation. Margin to corneal reflex distance 1 (MRD1) and palpebral fissure height (PFH) were recorded before, 1 week, 3 months, and 12 months postoperatively, and the amount of eyelid retrogression was counted again. Results: The good correction rate was 90.70% in group A, higher than in group B (71.88%), and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05); the early postoperative complication rate was 9.30%, lower than in group B (24.38%), and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05); the late postoperative complication rate was 2.33%, lower than group B (18.75%), and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05). The MRD1 and PFH of group A were higher than those of group B ( P < 0.05) at 3 months postoperatively and 12 months postoperatively; the MRD1 and PFH of group A were lower than those of group B ( P < 0.05) at 3 months postoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. Repeated measurement analysis of variance showed that there were significant differences in the main effects of MRD1, PFH, eyelid retrogression, and time in group A and group B ( P < 0.05), and there was interaction between intervention and time ( P < 0.05). Conclusion: Conjoint fascial sheath suspension combined with levator palpebrae superioris muscle shortening can effectively improve MRD1 and PFH, and the amount of upper eyelid retraction is controllable 1 year after operation.

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of modified combined fascia sheath and levator muscle complex suspension to correct severe congenital ptosis in pediatrics and the effect on refractive status. Methods: This prospective, case series study enrolled patients (aged ≤18 years) with simple severe congenital ptosis at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center. All patients were treated with combined fascia sheath + levator muscle suspension and followed up for 3 months. Preoperative and postoperative cycloplegic refraction and the best-corrected visual acuity were performed. The types of astigmatism include with-the-rule, against-the-rule, and oblique. Results: Thirty-six patients (50 eyes) were enrolled. The mean age was 7.11 ± 3.72 years. The surgery success rate was 90.0%. Following surgery, the eyelid contour of all eyes exhibited natural symmetry and satisfactory curvature. The eyelid height difference in OUs was ≤1 mm for 42 eyes. For 47 eyes, the eyelid crease was symmetry. Two eyes had conjunctival prolapse, and 1 eye developed trichiasis. After surgery, cylinder power changed from mean −1.14 ± 1.27 D to −1.54 ± 1.25 D ( p < 0.001) and best-corrected visual acuity improved from mean 0.205 ± 0.217 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution to 0.168 ± 0.176 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution ( p = 0.048). The quantities of with-the-rule increased from 35 eyes to 41 eyes, oblique from 4 eyes to 6 eyes, while against-the-rule decreased from 11 eyes to 3 eyes ( p = 0.01). Conclusions: Combined fascia sheath + levator muscle suspension under general anesthesia is effective and safe for severe congenital ptosis in pediatrics. However, astigmatism increased and the types of astigmatism changed after surgery.

Abstract:Objective: Pediatric extended endonasal procedures pose significant surgical challenges. Lesions from the suprasellar region to the lower clivus necessitate extensive exposure. This study examined whether drilling the spheno-occipital synchondrosis (SOS) to remove the posterior clinoid process and dorsum sellae (DS) for greater exposure affects pediatric midfacial growth. Methods: From 2014 to 2020, the authors performed endoscopic endonasal surgery (EES) in 14 patients aged 12 years or younger. The lesions consisted of 11 cases of craniopharyngioma, 1 pituitary neuroendocrine tumor, 1 Rathke's cleft cyst, and 1 Langerhans cell histiocytosis. In 8 of the 14 cases, an extended EES procedure was used by exposing the SOS to remove the posterior clinoid process and DS. Measurement of the central face was based on head MRI before and after surgery. Measuring points were the sellae-nasion (SN) plane, the foremost points of the anterior maxilla (point A), and the maximum concavity point of the mandibular symphysis (point B). The authors measured and evaluated the SNA angle (angle created by the SN plane and the NA [a line connecting point A and the nasion] plane), SNB angle (angle created by the SN plane and the NB [a line connecting point B and the nasion] plane), and the ANB angle (angle created by the NA plane and the NB plane). In addition, a comparison was made with 6 pediatric cases in which transcranial surgery was performed for craniopharyngiomas. Results: In the extended EES group, the average preoperative age was 7 years, and the average postoperative age was 12 years. Mean preoperative angles in this group were 84° (SNA), 80.9° (SNB), and 3.1° (ANB); mean postoperative angles were 83.5° (SNA), 83.9° (SNB), and -0.4° (ANB). In the standard EES group, the average preoperative age was 9 years, and the average postoperative age was 14.5 years. Average preoperative angles in the standard EES group were 83° (SNA), 80.3° (SNB), and 2.7° (ANB); average postoperative angles were 82.7° (SNA), 81° (SNB), and 1.6° (ANB). In the transcranial surgery group, the average preoperative age was 4.5 years, and the average postoperative age was 9.8 years. Mean preoperative angles were 83.8° (SNA), 80.3° (SNB), and 3° (ANB); mean postoperative angles were 83.8° (SNA), 82.6° (SNB), and 1.2° (ANB). The only significant difference between groups was the postoperative ANB angle, which was negative in the extended EES group compared to the standard EES group, indicating the maxilla was positioned posteriorly compared to the mandible. Conclusions: The measurement values of the EES groups and the transcranial surgery group exhibited minimal differences, except for a significant decrease in the postoperative ANB angle in the extended EES group compared with the standard EES group. These results show that extended EES may impact midface growth. Further research is required to understand the long-term impact of SOS exposure.

Abstract:Objective To observe the eye correction,the binocular vision rebuilding after surgery in the adult concomitant strabismus. Methods 78 patients(aged 18 to 54 years old)with a diagnosis of strabismus conform to the inclusion and exclusion standard were selected in our hospital from October 2013 to May 2015.The eye position and the stereopsis were observed and analyzed half year after surgery. ResuIts All patients was satisfactory with their eye position,59 cases(85.94%)were cured,19 patients were improved and were satisfied with their appearance.At six months after operation,there was a great improvement in 47 patients(60.26%)getting stereopsis and synoptophore in this group. ConcIusion The eye correction and the cosmetic effect was satisfactory,the binocular vision has been improved in different degrees postoperatively for adult concomitant strabismus after surgery .
