Abstract:Over the years, many theories and models have been proposed to explain and interpret behaviours related to the acceptance and usage of technology. The technology acceptance model (TAM), which has been tested in different technological applications, is the most well-known of these models. This article reviews previously published research on the application of TAM to electronic health records. According to the findings of this review, the original TAM was updated and extended to fit the dynamic healthcare service environment by absorbing and integrating variables from various theoretical frameworks as well as by adding variables in specific contextual settings. This demonstrates how the TAM model has been adapted and expanded to meet the specific demands of the healthcare industry, emphasising its usefulness in various settings.
An integrative research framework to investigate factors influencing citizen’s intention to adopt e-health applications: post-COVID-19 perspective

Abstract:Purpose The use of e-health applications has remained popular during pandemic for medical treatments. Nevertheless, adoption of e-health applications among individuals is considerably low in post-COVID-19 world. To address this issue, the current research integrates three renowned theories, namely unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model, diffusion of innovation and DeLone and McLean model and investigates individual intention to adopt e-health application. Design/methodology/approach Research design is grounded in quantitative and cross-sectional methods and uses a survey questionnaire. Survey questionnaire is administered toward smartphone users. Overall, 238 valid responses were analyzed with structural equation modeling approach. Findings Results indicate that altogether performance expectancy, effort expectancy, information quality, system quality, service quality, facilitating condition and social influence explained substantial variance ( R 2 = 76.5%) in user intention to adopt e-health applications. Similarly, effect size analysis has revealed substantial impact of social influence on user intention to adopt e-health applications. Geiser and Stone’s Q 2 analysis discloses that research model has substantial power to predict user intention to adopt e-health applications. Practical implications This study integrates three known information system models to investigate individual behavior toward adoption of e-health applications. In practice, it suggests that managers should pay attention in improving performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition, system quality, service quality and information quality which develop positive behavior and encourage smartphone users to adopt e-health applications. Originality/value This study is original as it integrates three models and investigates individual intention to adopt e-health applications. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first study to test the moderating impact of patient health value between user intention to adopt and actual use of e-health applications. It has established that compatibility and innovativeness are essential antecedents of performance and effort expectancy and hence make this research more unique and valuable.

Abstract:Increasing interest in end users' reactions to health information technology (IT) has elevated the importance of theories that predict and explain health IT acceptance and use. This paper reviews the application of one such theory, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), to health care. We reviewed 16 data sets analyzed in over 20 studies of clinicians using health IT for patient care. Studies differed greatly in samples and settings, health ITs studied, research models, relationships tested, and construct operationalization. Certain TAM relationships were consistently found to be significant, whereas others were inconsistent. Several key relationships were infrequently assessed. Findings show that TAM predicts a substantial portion of the use or acceptance of health IT, but that the theory may benefit from several additions and modifications. Aside from improved study quality, standardization, and theoretically motivated additions to the model, an important future direction for TAM is to adapt the model specifically to the health care context, using beliefs elicitation methods.

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Background</h3><p>Developing countries around the globe are striving continuously to provide free access to health care services. Telemedicine services represent a significantly increasing form of an adequate health care delivery mechanism in developing countries.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Research objective</h3><p>This research study was aimed at investigating the factors influencing the acceptance of telemedicine services among the rural population of Pakistan. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used as a theoretical framework for this research, with the inclusion of several other antecedents.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Research method</h3><p>A face-to-face survey method was used to collect research data from 275 participants. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) method.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>The findings suggest that usage intention of telemedicine services is a function of perceived ease of use, technological anxiety, social influence, perceived ease of usefulness, trust, facilitating conditions, perceived risk, and resistance to technology.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusions</h3><p>This research study confirms the applicability of TAM with the inclusion of additional variables to model the adoption of telemedicine services in developing countries. The study offers valuable information for policymakers and health service providers for understanding the facilitators and inhibitors influencing the large scale implementation of telemedicine services. The research findings regarding factors including perceived risk, trust, facilitating conditions and resistance to change can aid in the design and adequate provision of telemedicine services in developing countries.</p>

Abstract:This paper augments the technology acceptance model (TAM) by empirically investigating the influence of behavioral traits (privacy concerns and trust) and cognitive beliefs (perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use) on patients' behavioral intention to accept technology in healthcare service delivery. Despite increased emphasis on healthcare service delivery, there has been limited studies as to how various behavioral constructs are related to adoption of new technology in healthcare sector. To this end, and to develop meaningful insights, a conceptual model integrating behavioral constructs with constructs related to technology acceptance model is devised. The aim here is essentially to understand relationships that predict patients' acceptance of technology in healthcare services. The devised model is tested on responses obtained from survey of 416 patients availing healthcare service at various primary health centers in New Delhi, India. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is employed to conceptualize the model and validate nine hypotheses entailing key constructs. The results indicate that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, trust and privacy concern are direct predictors of patients' behavior to accept technology in availing healthcare services. In summary, this research provides an empirical contribution to the literature on effect of trust and privacy concerns on acceptance of technology in healthcare.

Perceived Factors Influencing the Public Intention to Use E-Consultation: Analysis of Web-Based Survey Data

Abstract:Background: Unbalanced distribution of medical resources is becoming a major challenge, particularly in the selection of doctors. e-Consultation could provide patients with more choices of doctors and break the constraints of time and space. However, the acceptance of e-consultation is still poor and the mechanism of adoption is unclear. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the factors influencing the public intention to use e-consultation and explore the effect path of the factors and behavior intention. Methods: The hypotheses of our research model were developed based on the technology acceptance model and perceived risk theory. A web-based survey was conducted by an electronic questionnaire collection platform; this survey that consisted of a 29-item questionnaire with 5-point Likert scales was completed by 934 respondents. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. Item evaluation and reliability, validity, path loading, goodness of fit, and multiple group analysis were used to check the moderation effects. Results: The standardized factor loadings of the items were between 0.551 and 0.873. The composite reliability of 9 constructs ranged from 0.706 to 0.840. The average variance extracted ranged from 0.387 to 0.640. The fitness indices showed that the collected data fitted well with the research model. Perceived usefulness was the strongest positive factor effecting behavior intention (β=.399, P<.001). Perceived ease of use had a positive effect on behavior intention but it was not statistically significant (β=.117, P=.07) and it had a positive effect on perceived usefulness (β=.537, P<.001). Perceived risk could be well explained by financial risk (β=.972, P<.001), privacy risk (β=.774, P<.001), social risk (β=.871, P<.001), time risk (β=.894, P<0.001), and psychological risk (β=.774, P<.001). Perceived risk had negative effects on perceived usefulness (β=-.375, P<.001) and behavior intention (β=-.297, P<.001). Personal innovativeness had a positive influence on perceived ease of use (β=.241, P<.001) and a slight effect on behavior intention (β=.124, P=.001). Age (χ258=133.5, P<.001) and usage experience (χ258=82.5, P=.02) had a slight moderation effect on the paths. Conclusions: Perceived usefulness and perceived risk have significant effects on public intention to use e-consultation. Therefore, platform and manufacturer must improve the function of e-consultation, which will promote the public intention to use e-consultation fundamentally. In order to control the perceived risk of public, government should play an important role in enforcing management of e-consultation markets and approving corresponding medical insurance policies. Besides, personal innovativeness had an effect on behavior intention. Moreover, the paths of factors had some heterogeneity among people with different characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the strategies to fit more groups better.
Factors Influencing Continuous Intention to Use Telemedicine after the COVID-19 Pandemic in China: an Extended Technology Acceptance Model

Abstract:Introduction: Telemedicine played a significant role in cross-infection reduction, time savings, and medical treatment satisfaction during the COVID-19 period.However, the factors promoting the continued development of telemedicine after the pandemic have not been studied.The goal of this research is to find out what elements influence the Chinese public's decision to keep using telemedicine after the pandemic.Methods: From March to May 2022, study data was collected via an online questionnaire survey.The characteristics that affect the intention to continue utilizing telemedicine were studied using the partial least squares (PLS) approach.Results: PLS results showed that attitude towards telemedicine had a direct and significant effect on continuance intention (P = 0.000).Perceived usefulness and satisfaction had direct and significant impact on telemedicine attitude (P = 0.000).Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use positively affected satisfaction (P = 0.016 and P = 0.002).Self-efficacy had a significant effect on perceived ease of use (P = 0.000) but had no significant effect on perceived usefulness (P > 0.5).In addition, social influence had a positive impact on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use (P = 0.000 and P = 0.013).Satisfaction was negatively affected by perceived risk (P = 0.031).Discussion: Social influence, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, satisfaction, and attitude all impacted people's intention to continue using telemedicine.This study helped promote the popularity of telemedicine for policymakers and healthcare providers in the future.
Health information systems with technology acceptance model approach: A systematic review

Abstract:In the rapidly evolving landscape of information technologies, individuals and organizations must adapt to the digital age. Given the diversity in users' knowledge and experience with technology, their acceptance levels also vary. Over the past 30 years, various theoretical models have been introduced to provide a framework for understanding user acceptance of technology. Among these, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) stands out as a key theoretical framework, offering insights into why new technologies are either accepted or rejected. Analyzing user acceptance of technology has thus become a critical area of study. Healthcare organizations aim to assess the perceived efficacy and user-friendliness of a given technology. This will help health organisations design and implement HIS that meet users' needs and preferences. In this context, how does the TAM clarify the acceptance and use of Health Information Systems (HIS)? To address this inquiry, a comprehensive literature review will be carried out. The systematic review involved 29 studies issued between 2018 and 2023 and searched the databases Pubmed, Scopus, Wos and Ulakbim TR Index. The PRISMA flowchart was used to identify the included studies. According to the results, some variables stand out in the acceptance and utilisation of HIS. Among the users of HIS, it can be said that the results relating to nurses stand out. In particular, there are studies which emphasise that 'gender' is a crucial factor in explaining the models. Another crucial finding of the current systematic review is the need to train users in the acceptance and use of HIS.
Patient Acceptance of e-Health Services in Saudi Arabia: An Integrative Perspective

Abstract:Background: e-Health has been expansively considered as a technological intervention for fundamental enhancement in the healthcare sector to mitigate the enormous demand and supply of healthcare in both developed and developing nations. In 2000, the Saudi government established a committee for health reform to develop an information technology strategic plan for healthcare and for deploying e-health applications within the country. The objective of e-health systems was to provide better healthcare to patients and to increase the efficiency of healthcare organizations. Despite numerous e-health interventions to provide healthcare services, very little is studied about the adoption process of e-health from users' viewpoints in Saudi Arabia. This study minimizes this knowledge gap by studying the factors affecting the adoption and acceptance of e-health in the context of Saudi Arabia.Materials and Methods: This study has combined theTechnology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior frameworks to evaluate the factors influencing the patient acceptance of e-health services in Saudi Arabia. Data were collected from patients at various private and public hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The partial least square technique based on structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the survey data.Results: The study shows the significant influence of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use on the attitude. Furthermore, attitude and subjective norm (p < 0.05) significantly influence patient behavioral intention (BI) to use e-health services. However, perceived behavioral control (p > 0.05) had no significant influence on patient BI to use e-health services.Conclusions: The findings of this study might be useful to policymakers, the government, and healthcare service providers in Saudi Arabia and other developing countries.

Abstract:During Covid-19, organizations, particularly hospitals, encountered difficulties in providing services. Telemedicine has shown to be an alternative in service provision during these times. Based on this, acceptance of telemedicine in Jordanian public hospitals has become a very important issue to increase the attention of the health care organization toward it. A conceptual model was constructed based on previous literature. The model includes government policy, the capacity of external suppliers, and the capacity of the project team, top management support, as independent variables where their influence on the acceptance of telemedicine in Jordanian public hospitals as a dependent variable is examined. Respondents were chosen using a Purposive sampling technique. Questionnaires were delivered to 320 respondents using Google Forms. SEM was used for statistical analysis. The findings revealed that all the proposed factors including government policy, external supplier capacity, project team capacity, and top management support have a significant influence toward accepting telemedicine. The results of this study may aid Jordanian public hospitals in making the best use of the proposed factors to increase the acceptance of telemedicine in Jordanian public hospitals.

Abstract:This study proposes a unified theoretical model to integrate the full spectrum of Self-Determination Theory, self-efficacy, and the Technology Acceptance Model in understanding the acceptance of technology enhanced learning among university students during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the proposed theoretical model, 7 hypotheses were tested to understand the acceptance of technology enhanced learning. A total of 303 university students participated in this study. The Heterotrait-Monotrait (HTMT) ratio of correlation was applied to measure Discriminant Validity for the Covariance-Based Structural Equation Model. Based on the results, the unified theoretical model provided better insight to understanding acceptance of technology enhanced learning (R2 = .71). Intrinsic motivation (IM), amotivation, motivation, and technology enhanced self-efficacy (TELSE) were identified as significant determinants of students' perceived ease of use (PEU). Amotivation, motivation and TELSE were significant determinants of students' perceived usefulness (PU) towards technology enhanced learning. During the Covid-19 pandemic, students had internalised external regulation and identified regulation. The empirical results also revealed that the relationship between amotivation and PEU were moderated by gender. Gender also played a role in moderating the effects of amotivation and motivation relationships towards PU. However, the relationships between IM and motivation toward PEU and TELSE to PU were vulnerable towards the moderating effects of gender and students' field of study. In conclusion, students' view on technology acceptance have changed since the pandemic, therefore, their participation in design, development, and implementation of learning resources is much needed than before to improve their psychological motivation.

Abstract:Telehealth has become an increasingly applied solution to delivering health care to rural and underserved areas by remote health care professionals. This study integrated social capital theory, social cognitive theory, and the technology acceptance model (TAM) to develop a comprehensive behavioral model for analyzing the relationships among social capital factors (social capital theory), technological factors (TAM), and system self-efficacy (social cognitive theory) in telehealth. The proposed framework was validated with 365 respondents from Nantou County, located in Central Taiwan. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to assess the causal relationships that were hypothesized in the proposed model. The finding indicates that elderly residents generally reported positive perceptions toward the telehealth system. Generally, the findings show that social capital factors (social trust, institutional trust, and social participation) significantly positively affect the technological factors (perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness respectively), which influenced usage intention. This study also confirmed that system self-efficacy was the salient antecedent of perceived ease of use. In addition, regarding the samples, the proposed model fitted considerably well. The proposed integrative psychosocial-technological model may serve as a theoretical basis for future research and can also offer empirical foresight to practitioners and researchers in the health departments of governments, hospitals, and rural communities.

Abstract:Desmosterol and its sulfate are the major components (60%) of the sterol fraction of hamster spermatozoa obtained from the cauda epididymis. Cholesterol represents only 10% of this fraction. The concentration of desmosteryl sulfate associated with the spermatozoa increases 18-fold during their transit through the epididymis while that of unesterified desmosterol remains unchanged. Unesterified cholesterol associated with the spermatozoa diminishes 10-fold during passage through the epididymis. In the testis, very low concentrations of sterol sulfate are found, whereas in epididymal tissue appreciable amounts are found. This finding would indicate the synthesis of sterol sulfates by the epididymis. In epididymal tissue, the ratio of cholesterol precursors, either free or sulfurylated, vs cholesterol is high and this ratio increases from the caput to the cauda region. Abstract:During COVID 19, many governments have been aware of the advantages of utilising information and communication technologies (ICTs). It may be challenging to reach e-governance objectives. One of the reasons for the failure of implementing successful e-governance projects, is the lack of citizens' participation and acceptance so this paper aims to overcome this challenge by developing the e-governance acceptance model in Iran. Based on TAM structure, the conceptual model has been tested by structural equation modelling (SEM). The convenience sampling technique was used to select the sample of 469 Iranian citizens who used e-governance service. The findings show all e-governance service quality dimensions, except for security and trust and emotional engagement, positively and significantly affect perceived usefulness. Except for security and trust, other dimensions also positively affect perceived ease of use. The results show, the positive relationships between perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use with the intention of use.
Psychological antecedents of telehealth acceptance: A technology readiness perspective

Abstract:The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has been threatening the healthcare system. In this context, telehealth is a potential solution to deliver effective and safe health care to the public. To facilitate the application and acceptance of telehealth, a good understanding of psychological determinants is of great importance. Therefore, this study aims to examine the public's positive and negative mindsets towards telehealth. A theoretical model was established by employing the technology readiness model and perceived value theory. To empirically test the relationships between constructs, a total of 500 responses from residents in Singapore were collected; thereafter, structural equation modeling was performed. The results indicate that discomfort negatively impacts perceived value whereas optimism and innovativeness positively impact users' perceived value. Further, perceived value positively impacts the acceptance of telehealth via attitude. Demographic factors (i.e. internet literacy, age, education) can also influence certain aspects of technology readiness (e.g. innovativeness, optimism). Moreover, social influence is an important moderator between perceived value and the acceptance of telehealth. The empirical findings enhance the understanding of users' psychology concerning telehealth and provide policy recommendations regarding the development of telehealth to improve public health.

Abstract:With the swift emergence of electronic medical information, the global popularity of mobile health (mHealth) services continues to increase steadily. This study aims to investigate the efficacy factors that directly or indirectly influence individuals' acceptance of mHealth services. Based on the technology acceptance model, this research incorporates efficacy factors into the acceptance decision process. A research model was proposed involving the direct and indirect effects of self-efficacy and response-efficacy on acceptance intention, along with their moderating effects. The model and hypotheses were validated using data collected from a field survey of 650 potential service users. The results reveal that: (1) self-efficacy and response-efficacy are both positively associated with perceived ease of use; and (2) self-efficacy and response-efficacy moderate the impact of perceived usefulness toward adoption intention. Self-efficacy and response-efficacy both play an important role in individuals' acceptance of mHealth services, which not only affect their perceived ease of use of mHealth services, but also positively moderate the effects of perceived usefulness on adoption intention. Our findings serve to provide recommendations that are specifically customized for mHealth service providers and their marketers.

Abstract:This study employs the Technology Acceptance Model to investigate the factors influencing Saudi Arabian diabetic patients' intention to use digital health services. There is an urgent need to investigate the possibilities of digital health services in managing diabetes given the startlingly rapidly increasing prevalence rate of diabetes in KSA. The study examines the variables affecting patients' acceptance and desire to use digital health tools to manage their diabetes. The study employs the Technology Acceptance Model to ascertain the crucial factors that impact patients' opinions regarding the usefulness and ease of use of digital healthcare technologies. The proposed model extends the traditional Technology Acceptance Model by adding two new constructs, perceived privacy and trust. These constructs were examined by analyzing the intentions of 600 respondents through online surveys. The study's conclusions showed that attitudes toward using digital health services for KSA diabetic patients are greatly influenced by every component of the extended Technology Acceptance Model. The study's conclusions add to the body of knowledge already in existence and offer insightful information to decision-makers hoping to improve digital health services.
Exploring Students’ Acceptance of E-Learning Through the Development of a Comprehensive Technology Acceptance Model

Abstract:Extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) for studying the e-learning acceptance is not a new research topic, and it has been tackled by many scholars. However, the development of a comprehensive TAM that could be able to examine the e-learning acceptance under any circumstances is regarded to be an essential research direction. To identify the most widely used external factors of the TAM concerning the e-learning acceptance, a literature review comprising of 120 significant published studies from the last twelve years was conducted. The review analysis indicated that computer self-efficacy, subjective/social norm, perceived enjoyment, system quality, information quality, content quality, accessibility, and computer playfulness were the most common external factors of TAM. Accordingly, the TAM has been extended by the aforementioned factors to examine the students' acceptance of e-learning in five different universities in the United Arab of Emirates (UAE). A total of 435 students participated in the study. The results indicated that system quality, computer self-efficacy, and computer playfulness have a significant impact on perceived ease of use of e-learning system. Furthermore, information quality, perceived enjoyment, and accessibility were found to have a positive influence on perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of e-learning system.

Abstract:Abstract Despite the evident advantages of electronic health services (eHS), there is a noticeable opposition to their acceptance, which has raised a crucial question about why people, particularly in developing nations, oppose the acceptance of eHS. This study was designed to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence the rigid opposition to eHS by integrating two theoretical models: the Stimulus-Organism-Response theory and the Theory of Planned Behavior. In our detailed survey, 543 respondents over 18 years old from various regions of Nigeria participated. We evaluated the proposed model using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicated that lower health literacy was associated with a greater opposition to using eHS. In addition, communication and choice overload and perceived risk contributed to a negative attitude toward eHS. Subjective norms played a significant role in influencing the intention not to use eHS, which highlights social pressure’s effect. Further, a greater perception of behavioral control reduced the intention not to use eHS. Ultimately, the intention not to use eHS affected eHS rejection behavior significantly, which makes resistance to it a substantial problem. This research unveils factors that contribute to this behavior and provides insights for policymakers in the health field, with the goal to improve people’s acceptance of eHS. Further research is recommended in different geographical samples and contexts to gain a better understanding of the factors related to eHS rejection behavior.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to find out influential factors of intention to use the proposed system among health centers by considering the technology acceptance model as the underlying theory. The proposed model of this study is tested using data collected from self-directed questionnaires filled up by 70 nurses in government hospitals and government clinics in Malaysia. A research method, which is based on the multi-analytical approach of Multiple Regression Analysis and Artificial Neural Networks, helps to refine the results of this study. The compatibility of the proposed system only has a significant and positive effect on attitude to use the system among other factors. Moreover, health centers' intention to use the system is further influenced by their perceived usefulness than their attitude to use. The mediating effect of Attitude is also proved. However, there is not any statistically significant difference in Intention scores accounting for the participants' demographic characteristics. The implication of this study is that by developing the system, which fits to the current procedures of health centers, we give them positive feelings. IT educational programs also should be provided for nurses to identify the benefits of the proposed system. It is also important to consider the indirect effects from independent variables on intention to use the system. However, the system does not require to consider the demographic characteristics of its end users.
