Abstract:Salmonella enterica causes substantial morbidity and mortality in humans and animals. Infection and intestinal colonization by S. enterica require virulence factors that mediate bacterial binding and invasion of enterocytes and innate immune cells. Some S. enterica colonization factors and their alleles are host restricted, suggesting a potential role in regulation of host specificity. Recent data also suggest that colonization factors promote horizontal gene transfer of antimicrobial resistance genes by increasing the local density of Salmonella in colonized intestines. Although a profusion of genes are involved in Salmonella pathogenesis, the relative importance of their allelic variation has only been studied intensely in the type 1 fimbrial adhesin FimH. Although other Salmonella virulence factors demonstrate allelic variation, their association with specific metadata (e.g., host species, disease or carrier state, time and geographic place of isolation, antibiotic resistance profile, etc.) remains to be interrogated. To date, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in bacteriology have been limited by the paucity of relevant metadata. In addition, due to the many variables amid metadata categories, a very large number of strains must be assessed to attain statistically significant results. However, targeted approaches in which genes of interest (e.g., virulence factors) are specifically sequenced alleviates the time-consuming and costly statistical GWAS analysis and increases statistical power, as larger numbers of strains can be screened for non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are associated with available metadata. Congruence of specific allelic variants with specific metadata from strains that have a relevant clinical and epidemiological history will help to prioritize functional wet-lab and animal studies aimed at determining cause-effect relationships. Such an approach should be applicable to other pathogens that are being collected in well-curated repositories.
Distribution characteristics and virulence gene analysis of intestinal and extraintestinal Aeromonas

Abstract:Objective To investigate the species distribution and the difference of virulence gene spectra of Aeromonas isolated from intestinal tract and extraintestinal body fluid,and the correlation of their pathogenicity with infection sites.Methods A total of 156 Aeromonas strains isolated from the fecal specimens of patients with acute diarrhea and extraintestinal specimens were collected during May 2013 and September 2015.Eighteen virulence genes in these strains,including hlyA,aerA,act,alt,ast,aexT,ascV,aopP,ascF-G,gcat,tapA,fla,Ser,exu,ahyB,eprCAl,lip and laf,were detected by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Last,the differences of virulence gene spectra between intestinal and extraintestinal Aeromonas were analyzed.Results Among 156 Aeromonas strains,79 were from fecal specimens,and 77 from extraintestinal specimens.Aeromonas caviae(A.caviae,51.9％) was the most common species in the intestinal strains,while Aeromonas hydrophila(A.hydrophila,48.1％) and A.caviae(39.0％) were the main pathogens in extraintestinal infections.The most prevalent virulence genes in intestinal and extraintestinal Aeromonas were gcat,act,fla,ahyB,exu and lip (＞ 45.57 ％),while aexT,aopP,ascF-G and ascV were less frequently detected (＜ 20.78％).The detection rates of gcat,ahyB,laf,ast,exu,lip,hlyA and aerA genes in intestinal Aeromonas were significantly lower than those in extraintestinal isolates (P ＜ 0.05).The detection rates of gcat,ahyB,exu,lip,eprCAl and hlyA genes in extraintestinal A.hydrophila were significantly higher than those in intestinal A.hydrophila (P ＜ 0.05).The detection rates of lip and hlyA genes in extraintestinal A.caviae were significantly higher than those in intestinal A.caviae (P ＜ 0.05),while that of aopP gene was just the reverse.There was no significant difference in the detection rates of virulence genes between intestinal and extraintestinal Aeromonas veronii.Conclusion There are significant differences in the species distribution and virulence genes of Aeromonas isolated from intestinal and extraintestinal specimens,indicating that clinicians should treat them differentially.

Abstract:A follow-up study of 58 patients with spinal cord injury was conducted. As measure of function the Barthel index was used. There was correlation between functional capacity and ability of self-care as well as some social determinants. However, no association was found with employment rate or certain other determinants of independent living, such as going on a holiday. We conclude that the severity of the lesion is a fundamental factor in determining the outcome, but factors related to personal and psychosocial variables, not easily measured, also have great influence on the rehabilitation process.
Development of diagnostic and vaccine markers through cloning, expression, and regulation of putative virulence-protein-encoding genes of Aeromonas hydrophila

Abstract:Aeromonas hydrophila is an opportunistic bacterial pathogen that is associated with a number of diseases in fish, amphibians, reptiles, and humans. In fish it causes several disease symptoms including tail and skin rot, and haemorrhagic septicemia; in human it causes soft-tissue wound infection and diarrhoea. The pathogenesis of A. hydrophila is multifactorial, but the mechanism is unknown so far. It is considered to be mediated by expression and secretion of extracellular proteins such as aerolysin, lipase, chitinase, amylase, gelatinase, hemolysins, and enterotoxins. A number of the putative virulence-protein-encoding genes that are present in the genome of A. hydrophila have been targeted by PCR for molecular diagnosis. These significant genes are also targeted for over-production of proteins by cloning and expression methods. In this review, we emphasize recent progress in the cloning, expression, and regulation of putative virulence-protein-encoding genes of A. hydrophila for a better understanding of the pathogenesis and also help to provide effective strategies for control of diseases.
Whole genome sequence analysis of Aeromonas spp. isolated from ready-to-eat seafood: antimicrobial resistance and virulence factors

Abstract:Aeromonas are widespread in aquatic environments and are considered emerging pathogens in humans and animals. Multidrug resistant (MDR) Aeromonas circulating in the aquatic environment and food production chain can potentially disseminate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to humans via the foodborne route. In this study, we aimed to investigate AMR and virulence factors of 22 Aeromonas strains isolated from ready-to-eat (RTE) seafood. A multilocus phylogenetic analysis (MLPA) using the concatenated sequences of six housekeeping genes ( gyrB , rpoD , gyrA , recA , dnaJ , and dnaX ) in the 22 Aeromonas genomes and average nucleotide identity (ANI) analysis revealed eight different species; A. caviae , A. dhakensis , A. hydrophila , A. media , A. rivipollensis , A. salmonicida , A. bestiarum , and A. piscicola . The presence of virulence genes, AMR genes and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in the Aeromonas genomes was predicted using different databases. Our data showed that the genes responsible for adherence and motility (Msh type IV pili, tap type IV pili, polar flagella), type II secretion system (T2SS) and hemolysins were present in all strains, while the genes encoding enterotoxins and type VI secretion system (T6SS) including major effectors were highly prevalent. Multiple AMR genes encoding β- lactamases such as cphA and bla OXA were detected, and the distribution of those genes was species-specific. In addition, the quinolone resistance gene, qnrS2 was found in a IncQ type plasmid of the A. rivopollensis strain A539. Furthermore, we observed the co-localization of a class I integron ( intl1 ) with two AMR genes ( sul1 and aadA1 ), and a Tn521 transposon carrying a mercury operon in A. caviae strain SU4-2. Various MGEs including other transposons and insertion sequence (IS) elements were identified without strongly associating with detected AMR genes or virulence genes. In conclusion, Aeromonas strains in RTE seafood were potentially pathogenic, carrying several virulence-related genes. Aeromonas carrying multiple AMR genes and MGEs could potentially be involved in the dissemination and spread of AMR genes to other bacterial species residing in the same environment and possibly to humans. Considering a One-Health approach, we highlight the significance of monitoring AMR caused by Aeromonas circulating in the food chain.

Abstract:Aeromonas veronii is an important zoonotic and aquatic pathogen. An increasing number of reports indicate that it has caused substantial economic losses in the aquaculture industry, in addition to threatening human health. However, little is known about its pathogenesis. Exploration of new virulence factors of A. veronii would be helpful for further understanding its pathogenesis. Hence, we comparatively analyzed the proteomes of virulent, attenuated, and avirulent strains of A. veronii using tandem mass tag (TMT) protein labeling and found numerous proteins either up‐ or downregulated in the virulent strain. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses showed that these differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were involved mainly in pathways associated with bacterial chemotaxis and microbial metabolism in diverse environments. Furthermore, the expression levels of lysine decarboxylase, endoribonuclease, maltoporin, pullulanase, and aerolysin were positively correlated with the virulence of the strains, suggesting that their function may be closely related to the virulence of A. veronii. The results of qRT‐PCR and multiple reaction monitoring for some DEPs were consistent with the results of TMT protein labeling. These results suggest that these DEPs may be novel potential virulence factors and will help to further understand the pathogenesis of A. veronii.

Functional genomic characterization of virulence factors from necrotizing fasciitis-causing strains of Aeromonas hydrophila

Abstract:The genomes of 10 Aeromonas isolates identified and designated Aeromonas hydrophila WI, Riv3, and NF1 to NF4; A. dhakensis SSU; A. jandaei Riv2; and A. caviae NM22 and NM33 were sequenced and annotated. Isolates NF1 to NF4 were from a patient with necrotizing fasciitis (NF). Two environmental isolates (Riv2 and -3) were from the river water from which the NF patient acquired the infection. While isolates NF2 to NF4 were clonal, NF1 was genetically distinct. Outside the conserved core genomes of these 10 isolates, several unique genomic features were identified. The most virulent strains possessed one of the following four virulence factors or a combination of them: cytotoxic enterotoxin, exotoxin A, and type 3 and 6 secretion system effectors AexU and Hcp. In a septicemic-mouse model, SSU, NF1, and Riv2 were the most virulent, while NF2 was moderately virulent. These data correlated with high motility and biofilm formation by the former three isolates. Conversely, in a mouse model of intramuscular infection, NF2 was much more virulent than NF1. Isolates NF2, SSU, and Riv2 disseminated in high numbers from the muscular tissue to the visceral organs of mice, while NF1 reached the liver and spleen in relatively lower numbers on the basis of colony counting and tracking of bioluminescent strains in real time by in vivo imaging. Histopathologically, degeneration of myofibers with significant infiltration of polymorphonuclear cells due to the highly virulent strains was noted. Functional genomic analysis provided data that allowed us to correlate the highly infectious nature of Aeromonas pathotypes belonging to several different species with virulence signatures and their potential ability to cause NF.

Abstract:Abstract The gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila , the causative agent of motile aeromonad septicaemia, has attracted increasing attention due to its high pathogenicity. Here, we constructed the complete genome sequence of a virulent strain, A. hydrophila HX-3 isolated from Pseudosciaena crocea and performed comparative genomics to investigate its virulence factors and quorum sensing features in comparison with those of other Aeromonas isolates. HX-3 has a circular chromosome of 4,941,513 bp with a 61.0% G + C content encoding 4483 genes, including 4318 protein-coding genes, and 31 rRNA, 127 tRNA and 7 ncRNA operons. Seventy interspersed repeat and 153 tandem repeat sequences, 7 transposons, 8 clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats, and 39 genomic islands were predicted in the A. hydrophila HX-3 genome. Phylogeny and pan-genome were also analyzed herein to confirm the evolutionary relationships on the basis of comparisons with other fully sequenced Aeromonas genomes. In addition, the assembled HX-3 genome was successfully annotated against the Cluster of Orthologous Groups of proteins database (76.03%), Gene Ontology database (18.13%), and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome pathway database (59.68%). Two-component regulatory systems in the HX-3 genome and virulence factors profiles through comparative analysis were predicted, providing insights into pathogenicity. A large number of genes related to the AHL-type 1 ( ahyI , ahyR ), LuxS-type 2 ( luxS , pfs , metEHK , litR , luxOQU ) and QseBC-type 3 ( qseB , qseC ) autoinducer systems were also identified. As a result of the expression of the ahyI gene in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3), combined UPLC-MS/MS profiling led to the identification of several new N-acyl-homoserine lactone compounds synthesized by AhyI. This genomic analysis determined the comprehensive QS systems of A. hydrophila , which might provide novel information regarding the mechanisms of virulence signatures correlated with QS.

Enterotoxin gene profile and molecular epidemiology of Aeromonas species from fish and diverse water sources

Abstract:Aims: This investigation was undertaken to study the prevalence, enterotoxin gene profile and molecular epidemiology of Aeromonads from various sources of water (182) and fish (173). Methods and results: A total of 116 Aeromonas sp. were isolated, of which 48 (26·37%) were from water and 68 (34·62%) were from fish samples collected from retail markets and fish farms. The Aeromonads were recovered from all types of water sources viz. drinking water (13%), surface waters (26%) and fish ponds (69%). The most prevalent species recovered from drinking water was A. hydrophila, from fish ponds it was A. caviae, from surface water sources A. hydrophila and A. caviae were recovered more frequently, and A. hydrophila and A. veronii bv. sobria were isolated predominantly from gills of fish samples. On multiplex PCR analysis for the detection of enterotoxin genes (act, alt, ast), the above mentioned Aeromonas species frequently contained enterotoxin genes, irrespective of their sources. From isolates across all the sources, act (63%) and alt (57%) genes were encountered more frequently than ast (6%). The enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus sequences polymerase chain reaction was used for typing of isolates and most of the isolates from water and fish were related, owing to similar ecosystem. Conclusion: A wide distribution of enterotoxin genes in Aeromonads from water and fish is a potential public health threat and molecular genotyping can be helpful to study epidemiology of the pathogen. Significance and impact of the study: A high proportion of isolates recovered from diverse water sources, particularly potable drinking water and fish samples carried one or more enterotoxin genes thereby indicating a potential pathogenic nature of isolates from these sources. The genetic relatedness was detected amongst many isolates recovered from water sources and fish samples indicating circulation of familiar virulent clones in the aquatic environments.

Abstract:Aeromonas media is a Gram-negative bacterium ubiquitously found in aquatic environments. It is a foodborne pathogen associated with diarrhea in humans and skin ulceration in fish. In this study, we used whole genome sequencing to profile all antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and virulence genes found in A . media strain SD/21–15 isolated from marine sediments in Denmark. To gain a better understanding of virulence and AMR genes found in several A . media strains, we included 24 whole genomes retrieved from the public databanks whose isolates originate from different host species and environmental samples from Asia, Europe, and North America. We also compared the virulence genes of strain SD/21–15 with A . hydrophila , A . veronii , and A . salmonicida reference strains. We detected Msh pili, tap IV pili, and lateral flagella genes responsible for expression of motility and adherence proteins in all isolates. We also found hylA , hylIII , and TSH hemolysin genes in all isolates responsible for virulence in all isolates while the aerA gene was not detected in all A . media isolates but was present in A . hydrophila, A . veronii , and A . salmonicida reference strains. In addition, we detected LuxS and mshA-Q responsible for quorum sensing and biofilm formation as well as the ferric uptake regulator ( Fur ), heme and siderophore genes responsible for iron acquisition in all A . media isolates. As for the secretory systems, we found all genes that form the T2SS in all isolates while only the vgrG1 , vrgG3 , hcp , and ats genes that form parts of the T6SS were detected in some isolates. Presence of bla MOX-9 and bla OXA-427 β-lactamases as well as crp and mcr genes in all isolates is suggestive that these genes were intrinsically encoded in the genomes of all A . media isolates. Finally, the presence of various transposases, integrases, recombinases, virulence, and AMR genes in the plasmids examined in this study is suggestive that A . media has the potential to transfer virulence and AMR genes to other bacteria. Overall, we anticipate these data will pave way for further studies on virulence mechanisms and the role of A . media in the spread of AMR genes.

Abstract:The objectives of the present study were to characterise Aeromonas hydrophila isolated from diseased tilapia Oreochromis niloticus cultured in Kafrelsheikh farms and to evaluate virulence and pathogenecity. About 200 adult fish exhibiting the onset of clinical signs were bacteriologically examined using Aeromonas isolation medium. The isolates were identified by 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis using species specific primers and then tested for ten virulence genes employing specific primers. Experimental challenge studies were also conducted to investigate the pathogenicity of the recovered A. hydrophilastrains. Thirty five isolates were identified as A. hydrophila based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis,which were also positive for presence of four virulence genes (aerolysin, lipase, cytotonic heat stable enterotoxin and haemolysin). Results showed that majority of the examined strains carried one or more virulence genes.

Potential pathogenicity of Aeromonas hydrophila complex strains isolated from clinical, food, and environmental sources

Abstract:Aeromonas are autochthonous inhabitants of aquatic environments, including chlorinated and polluted waters, although they can also be isolated from a wide variety of environmental and clinical sources. They cause infections in vertebrates and invertebrates and are considered to be an emerging pathogen in humans, producing intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases. Most of the clinical isolates correspond to A. hydrophila, A. caviae, and A. veronii bv. Sobria, which are described as the causative agents of wound infections, septicaemia, and meningitis in immunocompromised people, and diarrhoea and dysenteric infections in the elderly and children. The pathogenic factors associated with Aeromonas are multifactorial and involve structural components, siderophores, quorum-sensing mechanisms, secretion systems, extracellular enzymes, and exotoxins. In this study, we analysed a representative number of clinical and environmental strains belonging to the A. hydrophila species complex to evaluate their potential pathogenicity. We thereby detected their enzymatic activities and antibiotic susceptibility pattern and the presence of virulence genes (aer, alt, ast, and ascV). The notably high prevalence of these virulence factors, even in environmental strains, indicated a potential pathogenic capacity. Additionally, we determined the adhesion capacity and cytopathic effects of this group of strains in Caco-2 cells. Most of the strains exhibited adherence and caused complete lysis.
Virulence genes contributing to Aeromonas hydrophila pathogenicity in Oreochromis niloticus

Abstract:Bacterial diseases are the main cause of high economic loss in aquaculture, particularly gram-negative bacteria. This study was conducted for the isolation and identification of Aeromonas and Pseudomonas spp. from diseased fish. Twenty-two Aeromonas and sixteen Pseudomonas isolates were recovered from diseased Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) raised in eight earthen ponds in Elhox, Metoubes, Kafrelsheikh, Egypt. The recovered isolates were further identified using PCR as 22 Aeromonas hydrophila, 11 Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and 5 Pseudomonas fluorescens isolates. The 22 A. hydrophila isolates were screened for the presence of four virulence genes. Sixteen of the isolates (72.72%) were positive for the aerolysin gene (aer); 4 (18.18%) harbored the cytotoxic enterotoxin gene (act); and 2 (9.09%) carried the hemolysin A gene (hylA) while the cytotonic heat–stable enterotoxin gene (ast) was absent from all the tested isolates. The pathogenicity test indicated the direct relationship between the mortality percentage and the genotype of the tested A. hydrophila isolates as the mortality rates were 63.3 and 73.3% for isolates with two virulence genes (aer+ & act+, and aer+ and hylA+, respectively), followed by 40, 53.3, and 56.6% for isolates with only one virulence gene (hylA, act, and aer, respectively) and 20% for isolates lacking virulence genes. Based on the sensitivity test, the multi-antibiotic resistance profiles were as follows: 90.9% of the A. hydrophila isolates were sensitive to florfenicol and doxycycline; then 68.18% were susceptible to oxytetracycline, norfloxacin, and ciprofloxacin; and 63.63% were susceptible to sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, while only 27.27 and 4.5% were sensitive to erythromycin and cephradine, respectively, and all the isolates were resistant to amoxicillin and ampicillin.

Abstract:Ceftazidime was prospectively evaluated in the treatment of bacterial meningitis in 19 pediatric patients. Haemophilus influenzae type b (HIB) was the etiologic agent in 17 patients, and Streptococcus pneumonia and Neisseria meningitidis were the etiologic agents in one patient each. Ceftazidime was administered intravenously in a dosage of 150 mg/kg/day divided into eight hourly doses for a mean of 15 days (range, 14 to 22 days) for H. influenzae type b meningitis. The clinical and microbiologic response was appropriate in all cases. The mean ceftazidime CSF concentration was 6.7 micrograms/ml at approximately 2 hours following iv infusions. This concentration was 16- to greater than 100-fold the minimal bactericidal concentration determined for the isolated pathogens. These preliminary observations support ceftazidime as a candidate cephalosporin for the treatment of bacterial meningitis caused by H. influenzae. Additional study is required to further define its role in meningitis caused by S. pneumoniae and N. meningitidis.
Identity and virulence properties of Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish, healthy controls and water environment in China

Abstract:Aims: To investigate the species distribution in Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish, healthy controls and water environment in China; to evaluate the frequency of the aerolysin (aer), cytotonic enterotoxin (alt), cytotoxic enterotoxin (act), temperature-sensitive protease (eprCAI) and serine protease (ahp) genes in Aeromonas isolates; and to determine the potential pathogenicity of these isolates. Methods and results: Two hundred and two Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish (n = 42), healthy fish (n = 120) and water environment (n = 40) in China were identified to species levels based on sequencing of the housekeeping gene gyrB, while the distribution of five virulence factors, including aer, alt, act, eprCAI and ahp, was investigated by PCR. Aeromonas veronii (25/42; 60%) and Aeromonas hydrophila (14/42; 33%) were the species most commonly isolated from diseased fish, while Aer. veronii was the most common species in healthy fish (90/120; 75%) and water samples (25/40; 62·5%). All the five virulence genes were present in 9% (19/202), among which 10 strains were from diseased fish and nine were identified as Aer. hydrophila. For the strains carrying five virulence genes, the average 50% lethal doses (LD(50s) ) of strains from diseased fish were lower when compared with the strains from healthy fish and water environment. Conclusions: Aeromonas veronii is the most common species, but no significant difference exists in the isolates obtained from diseased fish and from healthy fish. However, Aer. hydrophila isolates were significantly more frequent from diseased fish than from healthy fish. aer+alt+act+eprCAI+ ahp+ was more frequent virulence genotype in Aeromonas isolates from diseased fish than from healthy fish and water environment, and the aer+alt+act+eprCAI+ahp+ isolates were more virulent to zebrafish comparing to the other genetic profiles. Significant and impact of the study: Aeromonas species in aquatic environments are various and have considerable virulence potential, and therefore, there is a need for more careful and intensive epidemiology studies.
Disc Biomechanical Response due to Incomplete Length of Collagen Fibers in Various Regions of Annulus Fibrosus: A Finite Element Investigation

Abstract:Collagen fibers in the annulus fibrosus (AF) play a significant role in maintaining the disc mechanical behavior. In healthy discs, AF fibers are concentrically arranged in a zigzag fashion. Tensile loads are transmitted to these fibers when the disc is loaded in compression. As a result, disc bulging occurs. Initiation and progression of mild cervical disc degeneration (DD) has been the subject of clinical concern [1]. The mild DD is associated with structural interruption in laminar organization of fibers in partial AF regions and incomplete length of fibers is a major form of structural interruption in AF fibers [2]. Moreover, a loss of lamellar fiber structure contributes to the progression of spinal deformity [3]. Past research have documented the biomechanical role of complete length of fibers in governing a healthy disc behavior [4]; however, there is a lack of clear understanding as to how incomplete length of fibers in different AF regions affect overall disc biomechanics and how they may play a role in initiating the propagation of DD. The focus of the current study is to investigate the disc biomechanical response due to incomplete length of fibers in outer, middle, and inner AF regions.Copyright © 2010 by ASME

Abstract:Aeromonas hydrophila is an opportunistic pathogen of a variety of aquatic animals that displays extreme diversity in drug resistance, phenotypes, virulence genes, and virulence. In this study, eight pathogenic A. hydrophila strains were isolated from diseased Amur sturgeons and investigated for their sensitivity to select antibiotics, their phenotype, virulence genes, and virulence. According to the phylogenetic analysis of the DNA gyrase subunit B protein, the eight isolates formed a single branch in the A. hydrophila group. The antibiotics ceftazidime, cefuroxime, cefoperazone, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, aztreonam, and cefepime appeared effective against them. All of the isolates possessed the virulence genes for aerolysin, flagellin, heat-stable cytotonic enterotoxin, heat-labile cytotonic enterotoxin, hemolysin, and elastase, while only one isolate, HZ8, possessed the gene for lateral flagella. The cytolytic enterotoxin and lipase genes were present in all isolates, except in ZJ10 and ZJ12. Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus sequence PCR indicated that the eight A. hydrophila isolates could be divided into four types. Isolates YW2, TR3, HZ8 and ZJ10, each representing a different type, were selected for challenge experiments. The challenge tests revealed that isolate HZ8 had the lowest lethal dose, causing 50% mortality at 2.30 × 104 colony forming units (cfu)/ml. The isolate ZJ10 had the highest LD50, 1.25 × 106 cfu/ml. Knowledge of the characteristics of the A. hydrophila isolates obtained from Amur sturgeon will be beneficial in developing potential disease control strategies.
